Turkey in the oven. Cranberry/orange sauce is made. Butternut squash is prepared. Punkin pie is ready. All that's left  to do is to wait to make the stove top/giblet stuffing and the giblet gravy... can't do those until the Turkey is D-O-N-E Done about noon.

I can now rest on my laurels and watch the parade for about 2 hours.

Then carve serve us, prep a plate for my father and go to inlaws, then my father's.

That is the day planned out already.

Then home to REST.

See yall later...

hope you enjoy your meals whatever it may be where ever it may be.

 Morning Folks

 Flo, Coffee please.

Think I slept good, only got up once last night. Yet I am still worn out? Getting old stinks.

Going to polk around the site for a while, will drop by later when I am more awake.

Wishing you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving Dinner

I'm sure I will have a nice, but very long day. First I will go to the nursing home later this morning and spend a couple of hours with the wife. then I will go to my nephew's for dinner with him and his family at 2:00 this afternoon. Late in the afternoon, I will go back to the nursing home and stay until this evening.

Although this is only the second time in about 50 years we haven't had Thanksging dinner together, (I was in Viet Nam when I missed the other one) we both realize how much we have to be thankful for. All one has to do is look around and see some of the other patients. That shows our problems are only a small bump in the road.

Go ahead and have a second helping of all that good stuff, and tell the girls it's on me.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody. ... The Chapel Car has been spotted nearby, and those who car to worship with their thanks may do so.. Of course, we are mindful of those who are presently having tough times.

Bama ..... Did you once say you were hosting the DIner for T-day? A Southern-style Thanksgiving feast would be terrific!

It's great to see the international greatings for Thanksgiving including messages from Germany, Australia, and Canada.

Der John ... I like your church scene.

Jeff ... Your photo looks great.

Galaxy ... You're doing very well moving the Diner through the Sunbelt.

In our household, one son is driving here with his wife and 2 kids from CIncinnati. Grandkids are arriving! Our T-day dinner will be later in teh day so they can drive over 300 miles to get here.

I worked a little on teh layout yesterday but not much. Too many other things going on.

Cheers.

Mornin' everyone and a most Happy Thanksgiving to all of you (THAt includes folks from all over the world, even those who don't celebrate it today....).

Zoe just a raisin muffin and a cup of dark roast for me.  I figure I will be way over diet by the end of the day.....

Squash is about ready to go in the oven, and I have finished making the "spare" stuffing for today's feast.  My son is trying his hand at making the old family recipe for stuffing himself this morning.  They decided not to stuff the bird, as it is about 24 lbs.  Probably a very good idea.  Cuts cooking time and is safer they say.

Sue, the discussion of the flowers reminds me of when my family moved into this house.  My parents had come over for dinner and as they were leaving my Mother (not the brightest light bulb at times) noticed a flowering shrub outside by the walk.  She turned to my wife and said, "How beautiful.  I have always loved azaleas.  You know, your azalea doesn't look my my azalea."  My wife looked at her and without breaking stride said, "That's because our azalea is a rhododendron."  Mother got quite upset, mostly because my Father and I were doubled over with laughter.....

Enjoy the feast folks!  have a most wonderfull day!

Gobble, gooble!  I mean 73

I know.  Most of the azaleas out here are small, and rhodys get huge.  When I used to climb on the Olympic Peninsula, the wild rhodys reached for the sky with lots of space between flower clusters.  At the end of the conversation, der is doing some great modeling.

As far as the credit card and you having a card and no credit rating also I am guessing you have some kind of identification and yet you don't exist. Have not worked that one out in my pea sized brain..... Sounds kind of mysterious.  see you all soon.

                                                                                         Thayne.

Well, my mother named me Donald, when I became a monk, the Abbot gave me the name Elias. My nursing license and all of my other paper work is in the name of Elias, but my drivers license was not. This caused problems with flying, and so I had to get a judge to legally change my name. I have never worked under this name, and have never had bank accounts or credit under this name. I really do not have a credit card, I have a company credit card that has my name on it as all credit cards must have, but I never applied for credit under my name.

As Benedictines, we do not take a vow of poverty as such (nor a vow of celibacy either for that matter) since both were understood as being part of being a monk. Our order is about 500 years older than the Church's adoption of such standard vows. I did check my name with the credit rating agencies last night, and was locked out so the credit card company must have made a report on this card. Previously my name and social security number would turn up nothing.

My previous work experience, before joining the monastery was before the development of credit rating agencies and since I have not paid any income tax in almost 30 years (I earn no income to report) there is another dog that does not bark.

It is a different sort of a life, but as a monk, I am really no different from anyone else, subject to the same sins, greed, and such as others. I live in a monastery under a Rule and an Abbot, but that is all there is to that.

Sir Madog

Sue - I went hiking in the Olympic Mountains in 1978 and have a good memory of those rhodys.

That was the tail end of my climbing in the Olympics.  Maybe we crossed paths.  I captured a lot of summits in 1976,1977, & 1978.  After that I spent more time in the Cascades, or other parts of the country.

Morning folks...

I'm currently working out my finances as V Australia has return airfares to LAX for $1200 return for travel march next year. I would travel for two weeks, concentrating on the west coast ( Maybe I'll shoot across to NY for a day or two.)

A friend of mine has just returned from a trip where he covered most of the USA (even a day trip to Mexico!) He highly recommends Cajon pass etc... And San Diego.

There are a list of things I want to do.

- Visit Caboose Hobbies in Denver

- Cajon Pass and Tehachapi loop

- Kingman - Seligman - Flagstaff.

- Jack Daniels In TN (Even though it's not on the west coast!)

- Nascar Race

- Baseball or NBA game (latter unlikely if they don't agree to pay soon!)

- And I suppose have a look at Hollywood.

Don't know if I'll squeeze all that in, in 2 weeks though.

Thinking of all that hurt my brain so I better get back to w*rk..

I wasn't anywhere near your league. Biggest thing I climbed on was El Capitan and that was a team effort. I couldn't do that now even if there was a million dollars at the top. Today I'd have a hard time climbing a stack of bricks.

Good evening friends, I got off my behind today, balanced the books, swept and moped the garage/ shop and washed the inside of the garage door, Camille broke a large glass bottle of soy sauce the other day. What a mess. cleaned out my shed, fired up the blower and lawn mower and cleaned up some leaves, On the RR front I finished a section of my back drop the other day. (the part that can be seen from Camille's living room) It's 10'x24" I made it look like a large raised panel door it has 5 two foot panels all one piece, today I primed it with kills and put the 1st coat of paint on it,(same color as her walls) Now I am watching football getting ready for some Turkey dinner,  See you in a few!

Had a good heavy dinner today, several times. I told my sister and brother-in-law to just roll me home and leave me beside the door. They wouldn't so I managed to get up into my van with the help of some wax paper and a shoe horn. Hope I didn't panic one of my neighbors when I got out of the van. I slid out and landed on my feet. He may have thought it was an earth tremor. He's convinced an earthquake is going to split the central plains and submerge everything from the gulf coast to the Canadian border. I got home without incident.

Grilled chicken, please. And while I wait, a decaf coffee.

***Sue/Jeffrey: Always loved hiking and camping around the Olympic Peninsula. Beautiful views from many of the mountain tops. Almost unbelievable just how fast a snow storm can roll in and overtake you. Also enjoyed the wildlife subject matter, which was the main reason I made many trips out there. Great memories!

Wonder if I bought some wolf or griz urine and spread it around the back of the property, if it would deter coyotes? Would surely spook the horses, so I guess it's a bad idea. Been dancing with the little bastar*s 2 of the past 3 nights and it's getting old.

Got the remaining tin up on the hay shed roof today. Tomorrow I will work on patching all the little holes.

 Evening Folks

 Flo, just beer please.

Thanks Giving Lunch was OK, but I was so tired I all most fell asleep at the table. I was there for a half hour before I got up to get any food. We got there at 11:00 AM and left at 1:00 PM, it very got real busy.

Came home and laid on the couch till I came to the dinner at 7:00 PM. They had a "Bones" Marathon on TV, I really like that show.

Will stop by the Dinner before I head off to KC Friday. But after that I will be gone from the dinner for the week.

I will see you folks later.

Happy Thanksgiving Day!

Say Chloe, it sure is quiet in here tonight. What is that chain saw sound coming from the back? Oh, just a few of the guys sleeping off the turkey.

Did you know that there is a sleep inducing enzeme in turkey?  Yes it is a scientific fact according to top scientists and it only has effect on males. So sleeping after a turkey dinner is beyond your control and it caused by drugs, not you trying to avoid doing the dishes.

Forgot to wish Jerry a Happy Birthday this week. Not sure of the day but I know I'm just a couple of weeks older than he is. Jerry, how is layout coming?

Time for TV, so goodnight all,

CN Charlie

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!! Coff, coff, sup, snuff......  Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

Oh, what time is it?  Wow I been sleeping by the stove for almost 3 hours......  Janie, how about a cup of decaf for me?  Thank you Ma'am.

Got home from my son's house about 5PM, put away the leftover squash and stuffing, and turned on the computer....  Then sat in the chair and kept dozing off several times for the next hour.  I finally went into the living room and lit the wood stove and then lay down on the carpet near it like my cats love to do.....  That was around 7PM....  Probably needed the sleep as I haven't slept well the last couple nights due to the cold I have picked up.

We had a great meal with great company at my son's house.  There was enough leftovers to feed everyone there for about a month I think.  The new regimen I am on has me filling up with about half what I used to eat.  I took small helpings of most everything, sat down and couldn't even finish what I took.  Pie had to wait until about 4 pm as everyone was full.  They only had 5 different home made pies for dessert....  In a few minutes I will go and check my evening blood sugar and see how damage I did today.

Jerry, CN Charlie.....?  I seem to remember there are a bunch of us November people here in the diner from other years.

Have a great and safe evening all!

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is Friday, November 25th, 2011!!!

The origin of today's name is:

- Skandinavian = the skandinavian name for "Friday" was named after the chief-god's wife, Frigg or after the love-goddess Freyja, who was often confused with Frigg.
- Icelandic = Föstudagur ("Care-Day", the original name, "" was named after the norse goddess
Frigg or Freyja)
- Swedish = Fredag
- Danish = Fredag
- Norwegian = Fredag
- Dutch = Vrijdag (propably "Freyjas Day")
- German = Freitag (in old high german, 'Friday' was called 'Frigedag', it was named after the goddess
Frigg, but 'Freitag' could also come from the name of the goddess Freyja)
- English = Friday (Friday was propably named after the skandinavian love-goddess
Freyja, but could also be a modification of Frigg)

Happy Black Friday to you all!!!
