I need a Tetanus Shoot from just looking at that rat rod. Should be called Rust Rod. Not my cup of tin, so to speak.
Morning Folks!
Flo, french toast and a cup of coffee please.
Have a interview today in Edwardsville IL today at 10:00 AM. Only thing I know for sure is it is telemarketing and they run help wanted ads all the time. That is never a good sign. I know they will hire me, heck they would hire a talking dog if it could dial a phone. Problem is in IL if you turn down a job, you can't get unemployment. But then again, I really don't have much to lose. Will just tell them I cannot start till next Tuesday. (have other interviews lined up)
PA's Got the couplers on the dummy engine and it tracks well. Kadee #4 are a tad to tall. Drop couplers would be way to low. So far keeping car coupled to it has not been a problem. Later I will see what kind of amps the A unit pulls and look for a wiring harness.
See you all later
Ken
I hate Rust
Good morning, Chloe. I will take my coffee in a NP mug, please.
der, I am enjoying your scenery updates.
Ray, Can't wait to see what you do with the quarry.
Rob, I hope the tornados miss you. My brother's BIL who lives in Missouri, had his garage collapse on him. When they rebuilt their house, they built it at ground level like a daylight basement.
Jim, Yes, no brass on the floor. A couple of traffic jams that were workable though.
Sorry, we didn't finish the staging yard. I think that 2/3 of the ties are painted & rails rusted. Snore. I will keep working.
Later,
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
http://www.streetrods-online.com/RAT%20RODS/rat_rods.htm
Rat Rod definition: A Rat Rod is a newly developed name for the original hot rod style of the early 1950's. A Rat Rod is usually a vehicle that has had many of it't non-critical parts removed. They are usually finished in primer or paints that are often period correct. They are very often a conglomeration of parts and pieces of different makes, models and after market parts. The term "rat rod" was first used by the high dollar, show cars guys to describe the low-buck, home built drivers. Don't forget the roots of the hobby (streetrods), it was the little guy in a garage on a budget (with help from his friends) that started it all. If you call them HOT RODS, TRADITIONAL RODS, STREETRODS, or RAT RODS they are here to stay and are making a showing at auto related events across the country.

Ya know, I kinda like the scrap metal version better...
I wonder if the Munster Koach wasn't part of his...inspiration...though. I agree, lots of similarities. Too bad we didn't stick around until it left, I would've loved to have seen THAT thing roll-out. Another dude in the crowd said he'd seen it flying down Highway 61 the day before, cruising at 65-70mph.

GARRY: Happy Anniversary! The Wife and I have one coming up next year. She's a good gal, I'll probably keep her and renew her contract for services rendered for another year... (hat-tip to Walter E. Williams for THAT comment!)
Jim- The backdrop is from Scenic Express and they have a very reasonable price. They also have several different themes. I used 3M Super 77 spray adhesive on unpainted 1/8' ply.
Ken- Good Luck on your interview.
Later Gator.

Yes i did get that train out of the house track and siding. Now tomorow after work i will be running another freight.

Good Evening, Chloe, I'll have a grilled chicken salad, and a chili dog with cheesey fries and a RBF, please. They're off today? Well, I hope I remember how to operate a deep frier; I think I can make the rest of my meal... (I hope)
Our weather in Cape has been windy today, and cooler. I debated about putting on a jacket when I left to come over here; the high predicted for the day was only 75 F (24 C). Not your usual temp this time of year.
csxns ...So i said the heck with it and ran the two motors and six cars in the house track and left the rest in the siding.
Curt, the backdrop looks good. Don'tcha just LOVE it, when about when you get one project on the HoneyDo list finished, another comes to her mind? Really like your (layout) backdrop - who makes that?
Hey, Galaxy, I heard somebody around the Diner has a birthday coming up, is that right? Oh, you don't know whoooo that might be?
Lee - 20 years to complete that awesome layout? Hmm, I'd better get moving more on mine, at that rate! (not that mine will come anywhere close to THAT gorgeous Elk River layout) Oh, and I tried again on that email.
Okay, Barry, now you have me curious - what IS that aerial photo of? And remember - for your CFO, 'accidentally' leave out your Walthers catalog/sale flyer (or both), with the items you'd like circled and/or highlighted on the page it's open to. (Heh, heh...)
Ray, (now that you point it out to me/us...) I agree that the 'corrected' photo is better. (D'uh...!) And I would NOT want those palmetto bugs anywhere near where I lived.
Garry - Happy Anniversary! to you and Shelley! I might just have a slice of that cake that Galaxy brought. And - oh my, Todd - now you've got DerJohn here, SELLING us (not sure if that's HO or N scale) sn** blowers in September! (Bet he offers a better warranty than Galaxy's installer...)
DerJohn, I think Jeff's talking a bout a smaller constrictor than what you may be thinking about. At least, I sure hope so! Sounds like Fergie may have got him a desk job, from your description (which I doubt that he would like)
Sue, sounds like you and Larry are doing a bang-up great job on your layout there! And if your friends invited you back for another op session, I'm guessing no brass 'hit the floor', at least. (Whew!)
Duke - NICE photos there! (Did somebody mention Berkshires, and I missed it?) I wonder if they have to change their water every so often, or how they manage that part? (Nice fire station there, too!)
Chris, thanks for the answers! I kinda thought THAT building looked like it was (at some point) a feed mill. Nice pic of the newer diesels there, too. That car/beast you described sounds like the photo will be verrrrrrrry interesting. Please do post it!
Ken, I've had sometimes where when I try to put that Kadee copper spring, it doesn't want to go over the shaft in the coupler pocket at first. Then, it can get interesting... But that's the minority of times, at least. Best wishes for your interview on Wednesday!
My day included some more back-and-forth with the MRR inventory (on the computer) and the MRR tubs (in the bedroom). I also wound up finding that a KCS 50' flatcar I had, needed the second Kadee put in (and the brake wheel found and glued back on), plus I found a cover for an NP PS-1 boxcar that I had couplers for (but no plastic coupler cover piece, nor the tiny screw to hold it on). Found the parts for those (and "got 'er done"), added the NP boxcar to the peddler freight that's sitting on the layout, got the KCS flatcar back into a box the right size (this time), and put two packages of couplers for my RDC's on top of the tubs I have the locos in. Feels good to get some odds and ends done (like finishing up those cars so they are layout-ready); will feel better when I get more done (and can run trains!).
Well, I'd better put the ice cream in my RBF and sit to eat my dinner now. Good to hear that Jeff and Rob have dodged any of the worst weather - and hopefully, all our Southeastern Diners will continue to do likewise. After I finish dinner, time to head home and do some more reading on wiring so I can get progress going on that...
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape G.
Evenin' folks!
Girls are still away for the day, I guess... Hope they enjoy a day off, they have earned it putting up with us all the time!
I don't really need much tonight anyway as I overate way too much all day. The BBQ was fun, lots of good food, games (bowling, golf, and others) on the TV, Some great homemade pie with ice cream for dessert, and good company! Can't wait to see what my blood sugar will be at bedtime tonight....
Rained all day. Not hard, just a constant drizzle THAT added up to just under an inch over the last 24 hours. The Weather.com site says tomorrow's watering need will be High...... Yeah, Right! Currently 60°F with a low of 55° tonight. Air conditioners are turned off! YES!
Curt, the model is not going to be in a "competition" per say, but rather evaluated using a matrix to decide if it is good enough for a Merit Award towards the needed ones for the Structures Certificate. I will be having two scratch built structures evaluated and possibly one that is not a scratch build (even though a lot of it is, it doesn't qualify as scratch built). I will need to earn 6 merit Awards, and six of the 12 structures have to be scratch built. One of them has to be a bridge. The gentlemen who will be here can advise me of where I need to go from here to earn the Certificate.
Hope everyone has had a pleasant Labor Day today!

cudaken Jeffery I still think the main problem with installing the couplers is I need to spread the metal cover. But, then again I was not trying real hard. Tonight I will take the trucks off and see what happens.

Good evening all....some hot chocolate Flo a bit cool today 57 for a high. Got done what I wanted today positioned where the coaling tower sanding facility and ash pit wil be. I was really pleased that everything will work out without moving any track. All I had to do was relocate a crossmember under the bench work to make room for the drive gear and motor. Also gave the track a good cleaning and ran some trains as well and of coarse the Grandson came up to the layout and we ran Thomas, Percy, Annie and Claribelle. Well everyone have a good night I,m going to get into my L&N PJ,s and hit the sack

Speaking of Food, the BBQ rib's I made last night where outstanding! That and the beer brats will be dinner again tonight.
Gary Happy Anniversary from me as well.
Der Far as the DCC problems with the F7's. Being a guy, I never read instructions! All so the fact when I first went DCC I was using a Bachmann E-Z and could not change CV's. Catching up to me now with the current project.
Jim On the PA's I was trying to install a #5 Kadee with the the cooper spring. Other one with the whiskers are #148. I think I only have one of them.
Good Old Days Still looking for the missing car title. While cleaning out a drawer I came across some pay stubs from 5 to 6 years ago. I was making $1800 to $2600 every 2 weeks. Boy, at this point it is hard to believe. But I will again!
Got the interview for Services Writer. It the job I really hope I get. It is this coming Wednesday.
Getting real close to 5000 postings. Like it is a big deal.
Good Evening...
Chris: I think that car you mentioned actually was in a magazine Rod And Kulture awhile back..and haing seen the thing in operation a few times....uuuummmmmm....yep....it definitely is a beast...
Had a nice quiet day today...I actually managed to run some choochoo's,,,you hear that Todd?...i said choochoo's!! The one single issue that showed up was my usual #8 turnout that decided not to turnout...and left us a rear end collision with another local turn ....
Chloe, I'll just have a couple of quadruplex burgers with all the fixin's and a large tub of RBF please....
Evening All,
Finally able to sit down. We grouted the back splash and I think that is actually harder than floor tile, probably because the tile we used has uneven surfaces. While we were at Lowe's today (1 of 2) the wife decided on a color called light bisque for all the outlets in the kitchen. We got home installed one and the wife decided she likes the full bisque color better so all the plugs have to go back and get the different color. That is at least a job for after vacation.
Garry- Happy Anniversary.
Jeff- I like the KCS covered hopper.
Ulrich- I'm sure you will figure the module out. You are a great modeler.
Der- I remember when I was a kid my Dad bought a new Bel-Air and the family went to Ohio in it from West Texas and it broke down on the way there but I don't remember what broke.
Ray- When is the competition for your Engine House?
Everyone have a good night
"(whispers) OK, what does Ken's fat figure have to do with installing Kadee Couplers??? OH! Fat Fingers!!!! Huh? oh nothing Ken..... (Gotta get the hearing aids checked....)" Ya know RAY, I was kinda wondering why KEN was wanting a Pro Tickler...
Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood afternoon/evening.
RAY: Now THAT you've pointed out the corrected flaw, it jumps out big-time... You sure you didn't run the "corrected" photo twice? Nice w**k, by the way. And THAT photo of the flower? Nice, very nice. If there was a little visual thing for clapping hands...I'd stick it in here on both.
Well (down a little today, toads have been splashing about in the cooler weather), the Wife and I finally made it to a car show this year...we hit the biggie in McCausland, Iowa. 200+ cars, trucks and anything in-between. The "best" one in my mind was a real creation. I'll tack up a photo of it later if I get around to it. It's the body of a '29 Ford with huge tires in the back, a home-built heavy steel frame, a Cummins diesel engine and truck tires on the front. It is, in a word, a BEAST. I think the kids would call it "sick" or "epic" or some such thing. The Wife looks at it, it's in rusty metal, not a drop of paint anywhere, and says "I wonder what it will look like when he's finished with it." I say "Dear, it IS finished."
She's a happy camper, a classic bug convertible was in the parade, and a fully restored Divco milk truck made it's annual appearance. She needed detail shots since the main charecter of a children's book she is writing will have one. Her camera/ipod/whateverthehellitis thing's battery died, so I ended up shooting all of the "detail parts." I looked at as what I would need if I were building a model of one...so she got it all.
She's happy.
JIM: I've got answers to your questions! The CNW 4180 in a picture I tacked up...two weeks ago? Is a GP-7. The Rock Island rebuilt it in their Silvis, IL shop. CNW bought 100+ geep sevens and nines from the remains of the Rock. THAT crumbling building in Wheatland, Iowa is still there...saw it today on the way back from McCausland. Even more brick has fallen off of the side, and the addition on the side with the Kent Feeds sign and pipes is gone. I don't know if anybody is using it currently, it was a feed mill originally. Also, THAT decal guy specializes in IC/ICG. He has a few sets for BN and N&W as well as sets for GATC Airslide hoppers with RR ownership (PRR, NKP and Wabash). I haven't had the chance to use the decals yet, but they look good. He uses an ALPS printer, like ODDBALLS does, so I'll be applying a layer of Microscale Liquid Decal Film before using them. They are extremely fragile otherwise.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm. getting hungry. I guess, since the girls have the day off, I'll just step back to the kitchen and fire up a plate of burgers....
***EDIT*** OK, looks like I got TOP. You can place your orders, but I'm no chef nor cook...so since I'm making my own burgers in the ladies' absence...I'd say cook your own eats and treats. Just write down somewhere what you got and I'll settle-up with the gals for payment tomorrow when they're back on duty. Hmmm. I wonder if one will show up for third shift to get the week started??
Here's a shot I took some years back when UP was detouring through Cedar Rapids. The nearby Cedar River Bridge on the East-West mainline was out-of-service for a maintenance window. The detour moves followed the former "passenger main" from Beverly Yard, across the Cedar River by the Quaker Oats plant, down the 4th St. Corridor, to the junction at Otis to get back on the main.
Coffee in a STORMY SOUTHERN mug. please.
More cool layout pics being posted I see. Some really great stuff, too.
Tornado siren has been busy here today. So far, they have been training just to our east. Wife has been on the phone warning some of her friends and family.
Pretty much in bed today myself, only up to doing a minimum of stuff. Glad we got all the critters settled in place yesterday.
Hope y'all are doing well.
Rob
Afternoon all and hope everyone is having a good Labor Day.
I have been by the Entertrainment in Ohio a couple times and after seeing the writeup in MRR,my wife and I stopped last week on our way back home from vacation. Here are some pics I took and there are more in my Photobucket account if anyone cares to take a look. I am also in the process of adding some more video. Ca(Bridge)Tom,I think you will really like some of the pics.
This is real live running water in this scene.
I will post more as time goes on because I don’t want to run up the bandwidth.

I hope your on-call "honey do's" are the rather pleasant ones I am thinking of!
Heres a and a for you and a for the wife!!!
Jeffrey and TMarsh: we live in the woods and have snakes, roaches, lizards, fire ants and some more crazy stuff and in the basement, dont know how to rid of them, big spiders big enought if got on the track will derail a lashup of Proto SD60's and a few freight cars. The big spiders like it on the block wall.Jeffrey, now about the young people haveing a party, now if they are any baby doll woman their call me and i will be right down.
Good Morning, and a happy labor day to all (whether you live where it is celebrated or not!)
Hmmmmm, I see we have a self serve breakfast bar here this morning. The girls got the day off? THAT's great. They deserve a break now and then.
Currently a very wet 62°F outside this morning... High will be around 64°F, but two days ago it was 90°F for my party....... Late Summer here in the Finger Lakes as usual.
Sue and Todd, thanks for your kind words. Scenery is one of the parts of the hobby I enjoy the most. I am anxious to get the quarry scene to the point where I can start to plant trees, grass, scrubby brush, and piles of junk to finish the scene......
I have a lot more to do writing up some paperwork and verifying what I have done for some of the buildings on the layout. I hope to have two scratch built structures receive Merit Awards next Friday to start my journey to the NMRA AP certificate for structures. I have to have 12 structures finished. Six must be scratchbuilt, and the other six can be Craftsman kits I have highly detailed in some way. Six of the structures must receive a Merit Award. Come to think of it I may have a highly detailed laser kit barn with a scratch built silo that might qualify for a Merit award as well..... Hmmmmm.
[edit] Forgot to say, "Happy Anniversary Garry!" Looks like there are a lot of Birthdays and Anniversaries to celebrate this month!
Der, this be what Jeffrey is referring to.... It is a member of the cockroach family, but is not the African Cockroach that is often mistaken for it. Much, much larger! http://www.ehow.com/how_4443826_rid-palmetto-bugs.html I used to see them around (and in) my sister's house when she lived in Florida. she just used to pick them up and put them outside......
Best get moving. Another party on the docket for today. I'm supposed to find a dozen ears of sweet corn to bring (and a bunch of stuff from the garden).....
Later!
