Galaxy- AngryYou have GOT to be kidding me. I guess I missed the first time you mentioned about the manager refusing to let the employees save the animals. I would be, well I AM, LIVID!!! That is the most….most….I don’t know what word to use that you can print. THAT manager would be fired, and put up for the community to do as they see fit. I have NEVER heard of something like that. Especially from a place that DEALS in animals. PETCO has got to be just reeling after that publicity got out. Oh I would hate to be that person on sooo many levels.

cudaken

Galaxy. Idiot Petco Manger should be made to clean up all the dead animals by them self! Now, I can understand why there are rules about the employees not taking animals home! But I don't think the rule was made so if the store gets flooded, you leave the animals to drown!

howmus

Galaxy, I would think the Petco manager down there will be facing cruelty to animals charges!  Remind me not to shop there.  (Actually I have never shopped there anyway......)  First time I have ever agreed with PETA. Whistling

Yes, WHAT a mess the Petco Deal is!!!

PETCO would be far better off NOT reopening ANYWHERE in this area!

The CEO appeared here in person to try to mitigate the damage, but it's been done. The manager may very well face criminal charges!

Of course, Petco Manager and CEO blame the city of Johnson City for not notifying them, and The City Of Johnson City EVACUATED THE HUMANS OUT OF the Harry L. Drive area with 15 minutes notice {we know someone from down there who was evac'd, and luckily enough their rental was high enough to be dry but much of Harry L. Drive was flooded very deep} so naturally, they say Petco WAS WARNED.

The Employees BEGGED to take some animals home to save them, but the Manager said NO. Like Ken said, I am sure there is a policy against such actions, but in an emergency, rules should be bent if it saves lives! Even if those lives are "only animals" or "only reptiles, rodents and fish"! It would have been a quick evac as well as the human evac and wouldn't have saved all of the animals maybe, but some would have been spared.

However, Playing devil's advocate here, since large areas here were just totally devastated, I DO have to say, that it is unknown at this point, how many of the Petco employees lost THEIR homes in the flood and would have been "stranded" with some animals, or how/where they had to go to to get to higher ground- with or without animals in tow. This bears some thinking too. The subject may not be so open/closed as one mihgt think or it could be a double-edged sword!

WEll, we and got my hair cut and saw the Dr. We still don't know what is causing my muscle fatigue and weakness. ALl I did this AM was to strip the bed, launder the bed clothing and remake the bed and was totally exhausted! WIth pre-authorization approval {hopefully} we are doing an MRI of my head, as I also suffer debilitating migraine headaches. SOmetimes i feel weaker on my left side as though I had had a stroke. HAve to wait for the phone call to set a time for it.

Well, thats all for now...

Have a great night,

Rules are rules and orders are orders. But as in the Army, even the most stringent of orders are subject to last minute changes depending on the change in situation. Adapt. In my opinion, the mission of Petco's adoption program was to get pets to good homes so they can live. Not all rescue missions are successful that is true. But by not allowing people, employees or not, to rescue the animals as many as they could, the manager neglegently and avoidably allowed the mission to fail. His objectives were obviously misplaced. The death of at least some of the animals was avoidable and I do hope he will face some charges. Perhaps placed in a cage slowly lowered into a swmming pool of water would be appropriate.

Soapbox returned to corner.

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, yep thank you.

Ray As far as fixing the Daytona, sometimes I want to, sometime well it is all most not worth thinking about. It is a true eye sore but that does not bother me a lot.  But, it's headlights don't work (bad headlight switch and they where only used them in the Daytona and you cannot buy aftermarket ones) I use driving lights that the car came with. One side of the brake lights don't work, turn singles don't work (part of the taillight problem) wiper motor is bad (I can fix that but I use Rain X) and the transmission was slips when shifting from 2nd to 3rd. To keep her going I start I in 2nd, back off the gas and shift to 3rd. Been doing that for last 8 years! Then I start using a high friction ATF and it stopped the slipping. Oh, it leaks a quart of ATF once a week like clock work. Red Green would need 2 case of Duct Tape.Laugh

Did not make it down to mess with the Aerostar today, had other things I needed to get done.

Paper Work. Took me 3 hours to get the needed paper work done for ILL Hardest Hit Program. If they can do what I have been told on the phone they can do. My mortgage will be caught up and up to date in 90 days or less. Payment will be lowered to $500.00 from $977.00. It sure sounds to good to be true so I am not holding my breath. But you never know till you try.

Galaxy While I understand the theory I don't buy it. If a person losses there life because they have animals at there house from Petco that is on them. At the very lease open the cages so they have a fighting but slim chances. Bet the turtles, some of the fish, snakes and ferrets would have done OK. Far as Criminal Chargers being brought against the manager? I hope not, it was a bad choices but to go to jail for the mistake, no! It was just a bad choices, nothing more. Now if the person was caught drowning animals for the fun of it? Well I will build the cage my self and stick them in my pool!

Well, see you all later. It is good to see a few more people in the dinner.

My Atlas H24-66 (Trainmaster) now has a DCC decoder, but it's not the one I thought I'd be using. Recently I traded three locos (two powered, one dummy) for four locos that needed work. Three needed motors, one needed trucks and one needed some minor repairs. Included with one of the locos was a Digitrax Z Scale, a 140 something, that worked in one direction only. I tried resetting it on the program track to no avail. It still worked in one direction only. I was going to cut the plug off it and solder a DZ125 to the plug. But I decided to try something first. If it didn't work I would have only wasted a few minutes. I plugged the decoder into my Atlas H24-66 and set it on the main and hit it with the reset code (CV8=08) in blast mode then programmed it as I normally would. I gave it a try and it works in both directions with the lights on or off. I'm thinking it must have been a program block or error of some kind. Now I STILL have a DZ125 to put in something else. I guess it'll be going into the Model Power GP9, or is that GP7 since it has an antique Athearn GP7 high hood body on it.

Evenin' folks!

Janie, just a decaf for me.

Did actually get to spend a couple hours in the train room today.  Started to make the last roof section for the Engine House.  Wish I could think of a way to get it to fit right AND be removable.....  The inside detail can still be seen looking down into the building and through the windows even if i glue the roof in place permanently.  Right now the last roof piece is just a piece of very thin plywood cut to size.......  Still thinking on it......  Any Ideas?  Stared w*rk on more scenery at the quarry.  Cut Shaped and glued down a couple of hunks of foam board there.  I need to find out exactly what buildings I will be making for the area and what space they will need before i go much further.  One will be a Power House for the Quarry.  All the kits I see are much bigger than what would be needed there, so I will be doing some research to see what I might be able to Scratch build for the location.

Did a couple loads of wash, a bit of grocery shopping, and went to the Mennonite market out in the country for some sweet corn.  Yes, they still have sweet corn and will for a couple more weeks she said.  They are getting it from another farm as theirs is done for the season.  I canned another 6 pints of green beans from my garden as well.

I'm tired out for today, so I think I will head out to bed shortly.

See you all tomorrow!

I went to the hardware store yesterday and bought some bits for my Roto Zip Surprise jezzs! those things went up on price 15.00 for just 2! anyway I,ll try to get that hole cut and test fit the TT and see just how well all of the tracks leading to my coaling tower, sanding facility, ash pit and water tower line up.

Good Morning!! Coffee and the #2 special please, over easy with extra bacon fried soft thanks.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 68.

Ray- What are the possibilities if a skylight in the roof? You know those big multi paned flat jobs. Maybe they didn’t use them in engine houses, but I’d think they would. Especially considering the light issues of the day. Just a thought. I think you did such a fantrastic job with the interior it would be a shame to make limited vissibility of it.

Well today is an I don’t know day. Will take it as it comes as if there is any other way. (cough)

Good morning, Chloe.  Barry said, "Eat up."  I am leaning toward those gooey cinnamon rolls & coffee.  Thanks.

Today I am leading an easy hike for a ladies group.  And yes, it might rain.  I am hoping that we will be just south enough to miss the showers.  It is sprinkling here.

Not much layout time in the schedule this weekend.  Larry's niece is getting married.

Later,  Sue

Well, well, well,

MOH is FURIOUS wih me over my "devils advocate statement" form yesterday evening's post. MOH says  wants to string  the manger up by his privates, cut them off and force feed him them! ANd is FUrious with me for suggesting employees who mihgt have saved then may not have had a place of their ownn to go to!

ANyway, The problem with this flood is that IT CAME UP SO FAST, and BACKED UP THROUGH THE SEWER SYSTEMS. \

I called my othe half 4 times at work on Wednesday teh 7th, after watching West COrners flood on Time Warner Cable TV's' "YNN"- Your News Now 24 hours a day seven days a week" tv and then old vestal road at Jensen and at bridge street between Endicott and Vestal over the river,a nd finally 4 th time i said "IF you don't get HOME NOW, You ARen;t going to,and I don't know what roads you can use to get to your parents" {they are on a well populated hill, but low ends were flooding}. MOH also did not want to leave me alone and stranded at home in case fo medical emergency...

The quick rapid overtake of water was what was the problem...

Oh well, enough of that for now.

We have a lot of cans/bottles to take back to get out 6 cents for, but we understood the CAn MAn got flooded in J.C. There is a little new place in Endicott, but it, too, may have taken water. Dunno.

Well, they say real estate will soar for those selling in higher areas, but drag down in those areas where flooding occured...so we have a double edged sword...also people flooded out are asking aobut new builds...dunno.

Even if we get back into the market in a year or two we won't buy cheaply in the flood plains, but I'm affraid we won't get to afford the hihger ground homes.

Later dudes and Sue...

Have a great one

 Morning Folks!

 Flo, Diet Dew to go.

Sue has a Dr appointment at 8:00 AM? Boy that guy likes to get going early. Then run down to the energy accents offices. Seems they messed up and all they did was the application for our Gas Bill. Figures it is the one I can afford. They did not do the Electric Bill, I just paid $235.00 Monday and still owe $600.00. So lot more running today.

On the main board read about a Kadee Coupler Box that helps with longer cars on tighter turns part 454. Here is a link.

http://kadee.com/htmbord/page454.htm

Might be useful on a few of my bigger engines.

 Well, got to run.

Good morning. It's 65° and sunny with patchy fog.. The high will be 92° and it will be partly cloudy.

Well, yesterday I resurrected a seemingly partially fried decoder by hitting it with a reset code in blast mode on the main. Before that I couldn't clear it on the program track nor on the main following normal procedures. I couldn't even write a new address to it. The Zephyr would read it but that was about all and the decoder would work for forward but not for reverse. I thought some kind of programming error might be responsible and it appears I was right. The decoder now works properly in all respects and checks out on every test I can throw at it. I plugged it into my Atlas Trainmaster and the loco runs great. In fact I'm going to have to adjust the speed tables a bit as it easily outruns nearly everything I have. I figure if I cut the figures in half (CV2=13, CV6=64, CV=77) it should be about right. That will give it a good startup with good acceleration through the mid-point and hit a believable top speed instead of making a sonic boom while breaking the land speed record. So now that leaves me with  a little problem. I still have a DZ125 decoder that can be used on another loco but which one? All those that I rebuilt that can take a decoder without turning it into a scorched corn flake already have them. That leaves a Model Power GP9 and a Bachmann FT. Oh, decisions, decisions.

Good Afternoon All,

Aye, there be trees in my living room!

The 300 JTT spruce and cedar trees I ordered came in last night along with some other scenery items I ordered.  These are referred to as “econocedars” or “econospruce” they are factory seconds sold at half the cost.  Typically the tree is flat on one side or they need some repair before going on the layout.  You have to watch dealer’s web sites or the bay to order them.   My LHS gave me a 2012 Walther’s Catalog at cost since I order 99% of my MRR stuff through him…

Tonight I will attempt to concrete my driveway drain.  Last night it passed inspection on the first try! Then I have the lead tester and window measuring guy coming out.

I got my new Walthers GP9m shell today. I was somewhat surprised that it STILL has the old non-prototypical Athearn wide hood. Indeed, with the exception of the front hood and a few vents and the handrails the shell is virtually a match with the old 60's era Athearn GP7 shell I have and is a dead ringer for my Model Power/IHC GP9 shell. How close is it to the old Athearn shell? It fits perfectly on the old Hobbytown drive the Athearn shell was on as shown in two photos below. Also notice  the photos comparing the width and details of the hoods. Before I cut the pilots of the B&O hood (1960's model) so it would fit the Model Power chassis they were an exact match for the pilots of the SOO hood (2011).

Here's the Trainline shell next to my GP9S which is the correct width.

Police Stop...
An elderly man is stopped by the police around 2 a.m. and is asked where he is going at this time of night.
The man replies, "I am on my way to a lecture about alcohol abuse and the effects it has on the human body, as well as smoking and staying out late."
The officer then asks, "Really? Who is giving that lecture at this time of night?"
The man replies, "That would be my wife."

Hi All,

Well we finally made it home today. MOH and I had a great time and we lucked out with a really good sea state during the cruise. After 16 years I'm not sure if I would still be acclimated. I still have several days off as I don't go back to work until Tuesday. On the way home I picked up my order of ballast so hopefully I have enough to finish the layout. I hope to do some touch up and the yard this weekend so that will only leave the 2 mains to do.

Everyone take care.

Afternoon folks!

Flo, just an regular ice tea to tide me over to suppertime....  Thanks.

Curt, sounds like you the CFO had a great vacation....  Nice you have a few day to devote to the layout before being back at the old grind!

Inch, ROFL!

i spent much of the afternoon doing a photo shoot of an octagonal Blacksmith Shop that was built in 1832 by Alfred Hale.  It is in remarkable condition for it's age and the fact it has only been used for storage for many years now.  The Hale Blacksmith shop will be my next scratch build for the layout.  Only major change will be that it will be done in limestone blocks (from the quarry) rather than cobblestone.  Some shots of it:

All the photos were taken from public property....  I did sneak up to the building with my hardhat and clipboard and take some measurements so I can draw and build it to scale.........Smile, Wink & Grin

Catch you later!

 Evening Folks

 Flo, yep and thank you.

Galaxy I have been told several times low freon will cause the AC coils to frost up. I guess it was 8 years ago the one out here in the garage was freezing up. Had it charged and it been fine. My heating guy was out working on the main A/C and he charged the window unit at the same time.

Hopefully he will be out again in the next few days, furnaces won't fire up and I will double check for you. But, if freon cost as much as R-12 (used in the Town Car A/C) might be better off buying a used A/C. R-12 is now like $48.50 for 16oz's.

Been down in the dumps today, may it just the drab over cast weather. Maybe a few Beer and running the trains will help!

ILL Hardest Hit Program Heard back from my rep Marcia today. If it sounds to good to be true? I was told I was approved for the program and that with in 90 days my mortgage will be up to date and they will make 6 house payments for me! Whistling

I should be over joyed, but in the back of my mind I just wonder what will poop up and cause it not to happen. I hate to do it, but I need to call Bank Of Somewhat Stupid and see what they can tell me about the program.

Train Front Finally broke down and ordered a Flywheel puller from Micro-Marks. That has been on my want list for all most 8 months now. Maybe I can get some of the new motors installed now.

 Will drop my later.
