Broke my wire cutters earlier today on a job that was a little bigger than they could handle. So it was off to Lowe's to get another pair. I got the replacement pair and a larger pair pair for those bigger jobs. I also got a half-pint of mis-tinted paint and a battery powered 6 watt soldering iron for those little jobs where a big soldering gun is overkill, like hardwiring decoders.

I have two of the old Bachmann light board decoders and two Atlas FP7's. One is on it's way to me as I type. It's a UP #1499. It may be from an early 80's run of Atlas/Roco models or a later run of Atlas/Concor models. I'll know when I look at the trucks. The Atlas/Roco runs of the 70's have the 'Made in Austria' origin mark on the bottom of the trucks. The later Atlas/Concor models also have this area on the bottom of the trucks but it's smudged out. At any rate it'll also be getting a Bachmann light board decoder. This will be for motor control only. The lights will be getting their power directly from the track. I also have a Bachmann regular 1-amp decoder that'll be going into the E7.

 Evening Folks

Flo, Beer please. I will sleep tonight one way or another! Whistling

Well over all it has been a Great Day if everything goes as it should! We will see.

Unemployment As I stated earlier today I received $796.00 dollars today and not the expected $348.00. I feel like I won a mini Lotto. I might splurge and pick up a couple of decoders! Big Smile

Keeping The House! Went to this link today and got signed up.

https://www.illinoishardesthit.org/

It is a program set up by the Fed's for 16 states that are being hit the hardest with foreclosures, IL being one of them. I was told about this program last Saturday when Sue and I went to the Bank Of America Out Reach Program. Program started yesterday and I got signed up today around 10:00 AM. I was all called by 10:30 AM, now that is fast!

I was told my Marcia that yes I am qualified for help, had me do some more forms to fill out in line and call her when I am done. Had everything they needed and had it done by 11:00 AM. Who would have ever thought, being able to call and talk to the same person again? What a idea! Whistling

From what I understand ever a person approved will get $25,000.00 in funds to get them caught up so there loan is current and remaining funds will be used to lower the house payment. In my case it would lower the $977.00 payment to $494.00. In the mean time, I need to get hold of the VA and see what they can do to help!

Does it sound to good to be true? Sure does, but we will see. Whistling But it does give me some hope!

Ray As far as 30,000 people losing there jobs at Bank Of Stupid well if they are the 30,000 people I talked to on the phone (seems like 30,000 to me) GOOD! Yet, I am never happy to hear anyone is losing there job.

Ulrich Looking forward to seeing some trees on the layout.

All most time to crash! Not falling a sleep till 4:00 AM, getting up at 8:00 AM has wiped me out! Only reason I am a wake is because I had 1.5 liters of coffee and a large cup of Diet Dew. Been on a caffeine all day!

 Later.

Good Evening, Chloe - I'll have the open face roast beef sandwich with gravy and mashed potatoes, a garden salad with Italian dressing, sliced peaches, and a glass of milk, please. Oh yes, and a bit later I'll have a hot fudge sundae, and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, too. Thank you, ma'am!Dinner

Uh, Sue, are you going for Phillip (PC)'s (or was it Flip's) old record for getting the most TOP honors? Wink

OzJim, you sound much happier now - enjoy! Big Smile Ah, looking very nice now on those hillsides. Thumbs Up

TSF - cool gift! Is that like one of those that darkens automatically?

Good to see Galaxy is keeping himself above (wherever the water level is) in his neck o'the woods.Yeah Stay dry as you can, G! And no, your filling us in about how your survived your ordeal was not too long, given all that was happening there. Sounds like Mr. Murphy was in control of when the power came back on, all right.

Joe, keep pluggin' away at the schoolw**k there! Thumbs Up

L&NTim - maybe you can sell the 'surplus' turntable on that auction site?...Bummer, all right. Sigh (Maybe Johnboy's idea might w**k?)

Uh, Barry, I've asked the twins and Vinnie to provide you with a little 'happy juice' to tide you over your 'camping'... Smile, Wink & Grin Hope you don't have any more of THAT foot 'action' (though that's probably not the right word for it). Hey, if you wouldn't supersize your other food, the ladies wouldn't try to get out the 20 lb. bagel for you! Smile, Wink & Grin

Lee, not a problem on the email; tend to your more urgent stuff there (like building that ark in your backyard?). Oh yeah, sent you another (shorter) email.

Speaking of Storm, we had a bit of it last night - saw on the weather that we'd received 3.6+ inches last night (I'd guess most of it over an hour and a half, too).

So Todd, I understand that you are expanding your dog's accomodations and putting in a couch, cable TV and internet connection? Whistling I don't envy your situation there.

Jeff, good deal on that FP7 price! Yeah And you're right, those horns on the E-unit do stick out with their yellow color. The ones from the PA look much better. Smile I had to laugh at your trick on the mystery caller there! Laugh

And, I didn't realize they were still getting mileage out of those B-52's - those are w**khorses, still going after all those decades! Wow

Curt, hope you and the CFO enjoy your trip, and of course we will expect daily updates and photos, y'know! Whistling

DerJohn, I like the changes (so far) on your church. That is an.. er, interesting yard maze photo there! Tongue Tied

CN Charlie: "I'm sure I must be missing something so I'd better go to the LHS on Saturday just to be certain. Besides my wife is working that day so I do need something to do."  Uh huh, sure, that sounds like the reason... Whistling

Rob, I see you've started on that gully of yours. I take it you have filled the tank and your flamethrower is all primed and ready to go, yes? Smile, Wink & Grin

Garry - is that 120 scale feet, or 1:1 feet of track? Wow Yeah, I recall when your area had the ice storm that year.Surprise

Paul, hope your area gets some of that wet stuff (Storm) - soon!

Today at w**k was unusual - usually, when I'm trying to get an admission locally, if I call their unit mid-morning, it will take until mid-to-late afternoon before I get a 'yes' or 'no'. This time, I was calling late afternoon, and before I got done, walked out to tell the client I'd talked with the unit and then walk back to my office, my phone is ringing again. It's the unit, saying the client was admitted(!). That is the fastest I have ever obtained an admission for a client. Somebody was watching out for that person!

I have training tomorrow afternoon for w**k (oh, goodie...Bang Head). Non-violent restraint-type stuff (which have never known of anyone with us to have occasion to use), but required training. I'm hoping we will get done early and I can leave early (and go get laundry done).

Hope everyone gets a good night's rest (and stays high and dry - well, except for Paul's area, where I hope they get rain). AngelAngel

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape G.

That's two out of three Bachmann decoders accounted for. One (light board type) is in one of my FP7's. The other light board decoder is awaiting the arrival of the other FP7. I got good deals on both of those locos. The one I have was free and the one that's coming set me back only $25. I can remember years ago seeing them marked at retail of $90 or more and I see some on Ebay for over $120. Guess I stole my two! What can I say? Some of my ancestors were train robbersWhistling. I probably come by it naturally. Mischief Anyhow, the remaining decoder (taken from a Spectrum loco) went into the E7. Easy enough to do. Pull the jumper plug and plug the decoder into the 8-pin socket. A bit of quick work on the program track and it's in service.

Evening all.

The busy-ness continues. After coming home and sitting on the computer doing homework, I don't have time for anything else, and when I do, I'm not exactly in the mood to browse forums for endless amounts of time. However, I did make it down to the layout for a few minutes last night. I did some painting of the lot at the lumberyard and a little operating:

About half of the lumberyard is now painted, including the white stripes seen in the photo (existing styrene was already painted black, but I went back and filled the joints, forcing me to repaint those sections). The spur itself is just to the right of the frame, and everything up to the track is now black. I have to re-fill one of the joints on the other side of the track before it can be painted.

School- Fine, as always. Homework continues, and it seems that this is pretty much how it will be for the rest of the year. However, once I'm fully back into my routine, forum time should come back to me.

I found out today that I'm one of the group leaders for Peer Ministry. I'm co-leader of the music ministry section. I'm not exactly sure what the job entails, nor did I volunteer for it, but it's fine by me. I would think that it includes selecting songs for school masses, but I have no clue what else we would do. Should be fun, though!

Not much else of significance going on around here. Tomorrow, it's school, then Parkway south to the shore, then w**k, so I won't be in till late. See you then!

-Joe

Evenin' folks!

Janie just a decaf for me at the moment.

Spent the evening out at the museum tonight.  Tonight was the 40 anniversary celebration of the start of the Rochester and Genesee Valley RR Museum.....  We had a short meeting accepting several new members, then enjoyed a nice piece of cake in honor of the day, and then, of course, spent the rest of the evening riding the train....  US Army #1641 one of our 80 tonners was in service pulling the Erie Caboose C254.  I rode in the cab of the 80 tonner for a bit and then spent time in the caboose.......  Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

Have a great evening!

Good to see everyone. Looks like the diners had a good day overall.

Here are progress shots of my Union Station Tracks. The ballast in the foreground at the turnouts is still in progress. I am blending gray and buff W S ballast.

I am using European equipment to test. The deep flanges find the ballast particles still glued inside the rails. I can't run the European trains much on my tracks because the deep flanges will sometimes derail going through guard rails on the turnouts.

Chamomile tea, please.

Hope it will rain just a little bit soon. Would like to water in the Kudzu before it dries out (or the goats discover it).

Tractor is leaking hydraulic fluid somewhere new now. Need to wipe it all down and add another gallon or more before I can find the leak.

Have a good night all.

GOOD MORNING!!!

Today is FRIDAY, September 16th, 2011!!

Curfews in certain areas remain in effect, some expiring each morning at 6 AM, while one in the town of Vestal expires at 7 AM each morning.

Boil Water advisories are still in effect in some areas also.

Dry Ice and Water distribution centers will be open today.

Check computer's websites for further info.

Temp here reads at 44*, computer says low will be 37* for Owego. With a chill on the trailer, I am surprised it is still 67-68* in here depending on which thermometer your read. I had expected maybe the new furnace would kick on on it's own to see if it actually works beyond testing!!! Maybe later in the AM it will...not that I am in a rush to give teh Nat. Gas co. any more of my money!!!

A fire in a large building near here that was flooded caught fire yesterday evening. It's reduction was hampered by low water reserves in the city water supply tanks due to the flooding in the area. What will remain of the building, one will only see this AM in passing it, or on the news.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!!

Have to get the rest of he paper work filled out and in the mail today for the Hardest Hit Program. Then off to Bob's and see if I can get the Aerostar Van started and see what getting ready to fall off before I strike a deal with Bob.

 Will drop by later.

Good Morning!! Coffee and some cinnamon raison toast please. Thanks

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 64.

Hm, looks like the same thing that woke Ken up, woke me up too. Actually I’ve been getting to bed about an hour or two sooner than usual, so I guess it stands to reason I’d get up earlier than usual sooner or later.

Aussie Jim- Layouts looking good!

Garry- Yours too!

Welp, turned the furnace on this morning. Probably, no, make that will turn it off here in a bit. Just wanted to take the chill off the house. Was 67 inside when I woke up. That’s just a bit chilly for me so I decided to warm things up this morn then it’ll turn off in a couple hours when I get moving around.

W**k tonight and before that….who knows. Got a few odds and ends out at Mom’s to do. I know I say that all the time, but even just sitting there, there always still seems to be things it needs done. I wish someone would say I’ll take it. Will you take cash.

Never thought I’d hear the phrase “gotta water the Kudzu” Well, unless they had to ..uh..relieve themselves.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning All,

The first window salesman came out last night and quoted me almost $6K for 6 windows.  I told him thanks but I have 3 other vendors coming out to place bids.  When he left the written bid was $3K, he found the Military discount, sign out in the yard discount, the coupon from last Sunday’s paper discount, the first house on the street discount….

At first glance I thought Ken ran over his wife, I need more coffee before I read anymore posts!

Gold is very soft, so they have to add something stronger to maintain the shape of the gold. The cool Pawn Stores will run a resistance check on the item.  If I remember correctly the price is in Troy ounces, a little different than Imperial ounces.

Jim, I haven’t even made my decals yet, LOL!  Party at my house Sunday, we will be digging a 6 foot hole.

He He He.

When teh furnace installer first started the new furnace to check it out, the blower motor roars to life standing next to it, and I mean ROARs. It is 5 tiomes louder than the old one. So I told MOH that.

This AM it was 67* in here, but a chilly palor over the trailer. SO MOH suggested we boost the thermostat to 68* {it is auto set for 65* at night till 9 am, then 67* for day operation.}SO MOH fired her up.

WHen the blower kicked on, MOH looked at me, then down the hall, and I had to say "I told you it was way louder than the old one!" He He He.

Even further, when it stopped, I said I had to pop my ears, MOH agreed,  and then MOH said "Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for flying our airline..." He He He.

It also blows the air about 4' to 5'  into the air up from the vents. {for those who don't know trialer vents are smack dab in the middle of the rooms...not on the outside walls}. you get blown by a blast of air for the ones you have to step/walk over!!!

Dunno, maybe it's a bit bigger than we really need for this trailer, but it sure heats up in a hurry!!

A do nothing day, except to pick up two prescriptions. We have to have all refills newly called in to anohter branch of CVS pharmacy because ours Flooded out!!! And so is closed inderteminate. It's a pain in the tukkus to drive to the other one, when ours was just 10 mins away.

Well, Talk at you all later. Maybe.

Good morning. It's 61° and mostly clear. At the highest today it's due to be 82° and sunny with some clouds.

Not much going on today. I have several old locos I don't run anymore that have decoders that can be used in newer ones. So I think I'll go through and see which ones can be retired for a while. Most are hard wired so that's going to be fun. Most of my display locos are DCC and since I don't run them, guess what. They'll be raided too. I have a BL2 and a fleet of F units that need decoders.

I started on my new run of antibiotics yesterday so I'm not feeling all that great. It'll take me several days to get used to them. The little battery powered soldering iron I got recently works great. It's a Weller BP645 and it set me back a whole $15. I haven't tried it with rechargeable batteries yet. It's still chewing on the three Duracell batteries that came with it. Getting the battery cover off is loads of fun. One thing's for sure, it's not going to just pop off while I'm using it. For being just six watts the little thing will sure burn the snot out of you. It heats up to about 900° real quick. It took me just a few of minutes to solder a decoder into a 70's era Atlas FP7 yesterday and that includes the time it took to desolder the original connections. Sorry if that sounds like a sales pitch. I'm just very impressed with it. I believe I'll get a lot of use out of this little thing.

Well, I've taken the decoders out of four locos I don't run anymore. Two E units that have pickup problems and two Atlas locos (GE U30C and modified SD24) that I built up for display only. So I have one Digitrax decoder (DZ125) and three Bachmann decoders (one light board type and two regular). I have a Proto 2000 BL2 and several F units (two Stewart and one Athearn) just begging for them. I don't know if I'll do all those today or not.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a blueberry muffin (bring some real butter) and a cup of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug. Please and thank you!

Wow something woke me up this morning!  Sounded like a huge rush of wind outside with a loud rumble....  maybe we had another earthquake.....  What?  Oh Galaxy's new furnace.

Currently 68°F inside the house...  Feels good!  Air conditioners are off, and I will be doing some canning in a bit so the house should warm up nicely.  Outside it is a chilly 56°F with a high today of 58°F.  THAT time of year already.  Too cold for even the bumblebees THAT have been polinating my string beans and other vegies this year to be out w*rking.  Tomorrow may be warm enough for them to visit here again.

Hope to make some time to be in the train room today...  Have a long list of "to do" items so who knows.  Tomorrow is the Fine and Practical Arts dept. reunion.  i am bringing one of my potato salads, so THAT will get made today.  need to stop down to the Credit Union for some "pictures of dead presidents", and stop at the LHS to find out who nearby has a "killer" layout and might be willing to put it on tour next month for the Division Meet.

Best get a move on since it's almost noon...

Seasonaly speaking, it was a strange day. Because it was forcasted to drop into the low 40's last night, I turned on the furnace before going to bed. So the furnace kicks on this morning for the first time, and later on we go to the doctor's to get our flu shots. Harbingers of things to come I suppose.  But wait, what needs to be done when we get home? Why cut the grass of course. Very, very confusing to this old body.

The two Stewart F9's now have Bachmann decoders, a light board type in the A unit and a regular type in the B unit. The light board decoder has an LED on it so it made sense to use it in the A unit. Instant LED light without that messing around with resistors. The Proto 2000 motor presented no problem. I thought the B unit would give me a problem speed-wise as the only thing on it that's Stewart is the body and frame. Athearn motor and Proto 1000 trucks would likely cause a problem of some kind. Really surprised me when they ran together perfectly speed matched.

I've been waiting for a shipping notice from Ebay on my Model Power GP9. The seller said there might be a delay of a couple of days. That was the 13th. If there was no notice, message or smoke signal that it was being shipped I was going to start getting a case of the you know what with somebody about it. Got an email this afternoon saying it's going out today.

Strong coffee TO GO, please.

Back from running errands with wife. Seems my FIL is mixing TV with reality again. Let's see, he was telling us about a big woman who was looking for a man to take back to her cave. Also, she was wearing leather biker boots and would look good on the back of a Harley. At least he isn't seeing purple monsters.Laugh

Help PLEASE!!! Ok, our chevy pickup won't start. No clicking but lights come on. Battery charges in short order, but when we turn the key, it reads dead battery as if instantly drained. Key released, battery still shows some juice. Starter was rebuilt last year. Everything else is original equip.. Suggestions please?

Thanks!!! Black Eye Rob

Rebuilt last year or not, sounds like your starter.

That has been my experience when starters have failed.

Unless they give a few days of grinding noises as a warning first!
