Morning Folks, glad to see you back Galaxy!
Flo, Coffee to go please
Well got to run, have another interview here in a hour. I posted in detail about the interview last night for the Drunken Fish, but hit a wrong button and it was gone. I know, I know, use word and then paste.
Later Ken

L&NTim11060 Good morning all... Well I called the guys at CMR yesterday and they apologized for the missing parts to my TT. They are sending then right out. Got the rest of the pit ties done and I hope to start on the bridge Friday. Oh I call the Hobby shop where I ordered the Walthers TT to cancel the order and he told me that since it has been a year that the credit card company wouldn,t give a refund so I,m stuck with it ( if it ever get released).

That is so dead wrong of them. I don't believe they should do that. It should be like a back order and your card only gets hit at the time of shipping. I would definitely call the Hobby Shop on that one. No one gets my money unless it is in exchange for something ( I want ). So in reality they have had the use of your funds for over a year. I would also get a hold of the Credit Card Company and explain that you have been waiting for a year without receiving any goods and want a refund and they can black list the H.S. if they so desire.
That just makes me boil ( I am sure you can tell )

Mornin' everyone!
Zoe I'll have a breakfast bagel w/ bacon and cheese along with a mug of dark roast coffee... Huh? yes my R&GV RR one would do nicely.
Galaxy, good to see you are back still in one piece even if a bit muddy and damp. Hope you didn't have to tread water too long!
Todd, serpentine belt???? Didn't get THAT one.
Lee, I bet you're talking about the old Swing Bridge up near Rochester, NY. Right? Just recieved an email this morning from an R&GV RR Museum member about it.... "Having worked @ Charlotte during the mid seventies I have many a memory and story to tell about that old relic....................ahhh...the day the kids bled off the air from an empty string of hoppers on the east side, the Army Corp of Engineers was dredging the river and in come the hoppers towards the river just ahead of the dredge ! I had the corner window in the old station with a birds eye view !" I remember seeing the bridge during my college days. I student taught at Charlotte High School one semester..... Sad to see the old thing taken down, but on the other hand it will fall down all by itself soon... Too bad it couldn't have been preserved years ago.
Barry, wow! Not good to have an ankle give out while on the stairs. Glad you didn't get hurt worse than you did. Hope this will give you a lot of layout time......
Have many items to get done today (don't I always...) so I best get moving!
Later!

Good Morning from the northbound Amtrak Adirondack,
The CFO and I are enroute to Montreal and then on via VIA to Halifax so we're having an adventure. This is the vacation we put off from last month when things got too hot in the shop.
Good to see Galaxy back on line - just on a week off line IIRC. Hope it was just a power outage G.
Curt - I also would call the card company to complain. Usually the LHS doesn't pay until goods are shipped either so something is fishy to me (perhaps the fish got drunk ?) If it was AMEX they are viscious even without the cardholder complaining if there is something they consider suspicious.
Garry - thanks for the tip a few pages back on checking for ballast fouling the rail. I found a couple of such spots when I was prepping the track for recycling and would like to avoid fouling and the accompanying derailments this time when I reballast. I have at least two european cars I can use as the previous method involved some old Tyco power trucks and wasn't very good.
I'll catch up more later. Cheers, J.R.
Hi Gang,
quick stop in the diner to enjoy a RBF with friends.
I am quite busy these days with my STALAG chores and moderator duties, I hardly find the time to come here and chat with friends. MRRing is down also, but hopefully picks up again!
Ken - still keeping my fingers crossed for the interviews!
Galaxy - I was worried about you being a flood victim. Hope you stayed high & dry.
TSF - a belated
John - there is not a single dimension on that highway overpass which is right for N scale. It was intended to be a mock-up and served its purpose, so it can go now. The houses will be arranged on the left side - difficult to describe, but simple to do. I hope they arrive before the weekend, so I´ll be able to post a picture of it.
Well, need to get busy again - CU all soon!
Morning Gang:; It's 11am so I am unusually early. It's back to the triple digets for tempurature today. Yesterday we had 103 and today it is predicted to hit 106. That will make the 70th day in this year and a new record high for a year since records were kept. Yippy Do.
The fires have been contained for the most part. There were 1554 homes lost in the Bastrop fire east of Austin. We have been very fortuante in that no fires have been near us. With the UP running through our place I'm worried that a fire could get started from one of the trains. It's happened before but the wind carried the fire away from our house. Right now the wind is blowing from the north so any fire would come toward the house and barns. There is rain predicted for later this week and next week but only a 20% chance.
Well I need to get to work.
Take care everyone.
It's pretty noisy here today. The B-52's have been taking off all morning presumably heading for Guam. If that's the case someone is in for for a serious butt kicking. Nothing else happening here for now. Getting ready to go to town to pick up some meds at the pharmacy.
Ray, with anything to be preserved it’s hard for communities to come up with the cash to maintain the object. I bet if the local government announced all property owners will be charged $60/month extra to maintain an object or structure you would find no opposition to scrapping the item. For the structure in question it was in the original permit that it be removed when no longer used. It hasn’t seen a train in several years and is not being maintained, time to fulfill the terms of the permit…

Afternoon All,
I just got back from the VA museum of Transportation. It was great. It was the first time I have been around a real steam locomotive. I am not ashamed to say that when I first saw them I got a chill. I took about 40 pictures there so hopefully they come out OK. I will post some after I get home. A bonus was 2 different NS trains switching alongside the museum while I was there (don't ask me what type of diesels they were). A happy bonus was the GG-1 that they have although it is in pretty rough shape.
We leave VA tomorrow morning and head to Charleston. It will take about 6.5 hours so not a bad drive. MOH grew up there so we know people there. Our cruise departs Thursday and returns next week Wednesday. We will spend the day with friends then drive home Thursday (8-9 hours). Then believe it or not we have a skunk show (like a dog show) that Sat. in Kissimmee.
L&N Tim- Can you send me any lessons learned from your building the CMR TT?. Lee has already sent his to me and I plan to purchase one in Jan 2012. I tried sending you a PM but for some reason it wouldn't go through.
Everyone Take Care.

The Atlas FP7 has already been shipped. The old boy isn't wasting any time. He must have packed it up the moment he saw my payment hit his account. No word on the GP9 as of yet except that the seller has gotten the payment. But maybe I'm expecting too much of Ebay.
Evening Folks!
Flo Beer please.
Fun stuff first. Jeffery Used Train Store. Broke out the 2-10-2 today.
And gave her a test run. I yet to install a decoder so I am running a DC engine on DCC. I was surprised how quite the motor was with no decoder.
At first it was a little clunky and was jerking. I did not clean the wheels first, but after some run time she was pretty smooth.
I ran her with out a train for a while on the Mining Loop. I was so pleased with how the engine ran, I pulled the Y6 b off the main and lashed up its 20 car train to the 2-10-2.
Well, it spun it drivers pretty quick. Finally got her to pull a 10 car cover hopper train with no issues. I really enjoyed seeing some new power on the layout today. Far as being lite in the loafers, not worried about that at all. Engine is pretty light so some lead will help. Plus I can get some bull frog snoot and that should do the trick. Engine track very well, only derailed one time, and more than likely I did not get the pilot wheels on right when I moved it to the main.
Jeffery is the 2-10-2 a Santa Fe type? I need to check on line to see if I can find its parts picture to guide me on taking it apart. Is the road name real, or just your own? Guessing it is your own name bt not sure.
Work Front
Drunken Fish. Well I am not holding my breath but under the circumstances the interview went well. Seems Mr Munsok never saw my saw my resume and had no idea why accent Mehe set up the interview. I all so wonder why I was called.
But he was very good about asking questions so I could show him I had the background he could use. He did state I need to redo my resume to reflect the type of job I am applying and all so reflect all of my background. I did take that to heart and I am working on a more modern style resume.
Have a job if I want it. Problem, is I don't really want it but I am more worried I cannot do it! It is selling lawn care door to door, it does have a $450.00 base + commission. It is cold calling, in other words you just walk up and knock on a door. I am not worried about rejection, hee, hee, hee I am used to that. But the walking, I have bone spurs in my ankle and normally after 45 minutes or so it starts to hurt. After a hour and half I am limping and my toes start to go numb.
My main worry is I don't know if I quite a job because I can't do it, will I still get unemployment in the state of IL? I know if you just quite, you cannot not. Not sure about being physical unable to do the work? Matt the person I spoke with said I could take my time and see if I get any other offers. They train start training every Tuesday. They hire 3 people every week and 2 quite by the third day.
Well, I might drop by later and see what is going on.
Ken

Evening all... Well I called the hobby shop again he got a little snippy with me and told me that I need to understand that it,s a advanced order item. In order to be one of the first to get the new TT I paid in advanced (something I was not informed on at the time I ordered it) so lesson learned I will never place an order again unless I,m dead sure it,s not an advanced item and I can expect my purchase to be mail in a couple of days

***Ken, that's a mighty fine looking loco there. But I really like those trees. Well done!
Nothing much to report on. After setting the trap for a snapping turtle lurking in our pond, my wife helped me set a few fence posts this evening. She was NOT happy having to help, but sadly I did need a hand. If that pectoral thing behaves tonight, I'll do some more posts tomorrow.
Hope y'all are doing well.

Good evening folks: I think I need a slab of dark chocolate, and a black coffee to help it melt! Not much mrr in the last two days - but I have been preparing for the time when the background orchard scene is done. There's a church I was given some Christmases ago that sits next to the orchard. It doesn't look very much like the churches one sees in our neck of the woods. So I've started to give it a Maritimes Make-over. Still have to build the steps and wheelchair ramp - other than that, a sign board and some glazing, it's getting there. Main difference apart from the paint to cover the shrubs printed on the walls (no, seriously, they were!) changing white to cream and grey to green, is lowering the tower and putting on those tower corner cornice thingies which are a local feature. http:/The building is stucco, with stone ashlar corners. That isn't typical - clapboard is more usual; but it's not unknown. Here's where we're to tonight.
OzJim:
Der: Nice work there, I quite like the road. How did you do it?
Todd:
Der- I really like the difference the foliage is making. Soon I hope to be able to get back to the RR and do some perking up myself. Say, what coloration did you use for your roads? I like that shade.
Jeff:
In other news I still haven't come across a suitable set of horns for the E7. The ones that are on it stand out like Ronald McDonald's shoes! I'm going to take them off and see if painting them will help. Anything will likely be better that the hot yellow that they are now.
Ulrich: Looking forward to seeing how the houses fit in.
Johnboy:

Good Evening!
A cool day here with a high of 10C (50F) and there is a frost warning out for tonight.
Ken, it is easy to get the shell off that 2-10-2. There are 2 phillips screws on the bottom right under the cab and a long slot headed screw that is behing the front truck going up to the stack. The whole thing just pivots off, very easy. Heck it was my first hard wire decoder install and I'm sure you won't have any trouble.
Curt, glad to hear your're have a good time on your vacation and got to see a few 'steamers'. Mind you there is nothing like seeing one in action. For me they come alive like no other machine.
Not much new here, just plugging along on my little N scale layout. I've drawn out most of the track plan on the board and hopefully this weekend I'll get the cork down for the area with most of the turnouts. I have 2 crossovers and 4 siding turnouts to place in that area. I'm sure I must be missing something so I'd better go to the LHS on Saturday just to be certain. Besides my wife is working that day so I do need something to do.
Oh, I did order an Atlas RS11 (N scale) in DW&P livery that is supposed to be delivered Thursday. I've been looking for one for a while and finally, as they say now, scored.
See you soon,
CN Charlie
Evenin' folks!
Janie just a decaf.... I'd have another slice of THAT blueberry pie, but i just took my blood sugar. Not terrible, but a bit more than I like it to be.
Got quite a few things done today. Took the Wistle post sign over to a gravestone dealer to get it sand blasted. I know the family well. The owners wife is the granddaughter of a lady who lived right across the street when we moved in here. Wonderful lady who died of bone cancer less than a week after my wife died of leukemia. Anyway THAT took a while as I sat and chatted a while...... Taught their kids at the Middle School. Then I had to take the Yaris in for service. Had them do the "works" in service and a 27 point inspection of the car. Did an oil change w/ filter, topped off all fluids, and a few other items... Came to $48.... With tax and discounts from a couple coupons I had. Came home, stopped at the Mennonite Farm market and got a couple ears of corn, shooped at BJ's, picked beans, and finally sat down this evening after supper to start the drawings for the Octagon Blacksmiths shop I am going to build at the Quarry (prototype was built in 1832 and is still standing). I need to drive over and sneak some better photos and grab a few measurements.
The Octagon Barn will cover and hide the tortoise machine sitting above the plywood (there is not enough room underneath with the track to install the usual way).
Lee, I quite agree with you. Still, sad to see another historic RR structure disappear. It is now in a state where restoration would be difficult and very expensive. We had a old gas station here in Geneva which ended up in the cities hands almost 25 years ago. They tried to sell it to anyone who would fix it up and use it, but the property had to be maintained as a historic site..... Full of asbestos, decaying foundation, major water damage. Up to day it was finally demolished we had a group of nuts cases trying to get the city to put a few million into repairs and keep it. If they had done restoration soon after it ended up in the cities hands, it might have been possible and might well have been a good thing for us. But after 20 plus years of fighting over it, it finally came down this summer, area looks much better now! I almost got tarred, feathered and run out of town by a bunch of the nut cases after telling them it should be torn down before it falls down.......
Looking at a low of 53°F tonight with a few thunderboomers around. Tomorrow the high will be 73°... My kind of weather!
Have a great night!
Good Evening All,
The Adirondack got in an hour late to Montreal due to a tree falling on the tracks that they couldn't move with the locomotive and tools on board. Plus an hour and a half at Canadian imigration. Tip to travelers, don't buy tickets the day of the trip, the two nice German girls (from Berlin Ulrich) got hauled off to interogation for that. Hope the return trip next week goes better. Also don't know why they don't board the immigration people an hour before the border so they can get the easy stuff done before we arrive. They control access on and off anyway so should not be a problem controling who's been checked don't you think?
Jeff - Guam to Diego Garcia puts the entire Mideast within reach. Libya would have been from Europe, so maybe Syria? That dude needs a good kicking.
Trying to find rail stuff in Montreal for tomorrow as we have a day layover. Catch y'all later. J.R.
Good Morning Folks!
Woke up early today, still haunted by sleeping issues.
We wrote a test at the STALAG yesterday. My score was 66 points out of 70, which I think is pretty good for not doing any prep w*rk . The exam will be in three weeks - how to cover that time without getting bored to deatth?
Janie, stack of pancakes & maple syrup, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages & coffee, please.
J.R. - getting hauled off to interrogation for buying a train ticket for a same day ride? Were the girls wearing an Arab veil? Without getting into politics, we are not used to this in Europe. Within the European Union, we have no border controls. I can travel from Sweden via Denmark, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium to France in one day without having to show a passport. Quite convenient!
Pretty bad weather in our neck of the woods. Petra and I are still waiting for summer to "happen", but I guess we missed it for this year.
Have a good one!
J.R.
If you can rent a car the Canadian Railway Museum also called Exporail, is located just south of Montreal at 110 rue Saint-Pierre, Saint-Constant ( Delson). I've never been but they apparently have a great collection.
Good Morning All,
The overnight low in Duluth, MN will be 31F this weekend and the low for my area Thursday and Friday will be in the upper 40’s. That means I need to get a move on and finish all my outside projects! I went to the building department last night and expressed my dissatisfaction with their storm drain system and I told them I would follow up our conversation with a letter. I also mentioned that if my letter goes unanswered I will be sending correspondence to any politician or news media that will listen.
Ray, there is a really good historical preservation office in your area; I’ll bet you’ll still see the bridge in pictures and maybe the significant parts of the bridge on display. In Wisconsin the contractor pulled the base ring of a swing bridge, floated it up river on a barge and installed it on a concrete pad in a park. I think it only cost $65,000 to build the historical monument.
Ken, I’ve taken several resume classes and you can’t have a generic resume (unless you just graduated from High School). It must target the job you’re applying for. Everything needs to be relevant. I can take a M-60 from a sand storm, disassemble it, oil, safety function test the weapon, and return it to field ready condition in under 5 minutes blindfolded, but they really didn’t care about that when I applied for the bridge job. When I applied I didn’t have any obvious qualifications for this job except I took highlights from skills I possessed and showed the similarity of those skills to the requirements of the job announcement. The 1-2 page resume doesn’t work anymore. Hiring screeners are looking for relevance, if you have a 5 page resume that is on target for the job they will read the whole thing, if the first page is irrelevant they will stop reading and you won’t make the first cut. They said the reason I was hired over the others; my resume had complete sentences, paragraphs built from more than 3 sentences, and the first page told a story of what I had done and what I was capable of doing. They didn’t even do interviews, I was hired at the next highest pay slot than the advertised position. 8 people made the final cut out of about 25 applicants: I competed against a retired W3, W4, E8, E9, O4, O5, and two O6’s, and I was a retired E6. The last resume instructor I sat in front of uses me as an example of what effective resume writing can do in all of his classes.
L&N, more and more all the quality locomotives are advance orders. It hurts us bargain hunters at the end of the year because nobody carries a shelf of locomotives anymore. BLI is almost all advance orders now.

Good Morning!! Coffee and the Breakfast pile with suasageplease. Thanks. A 40 percent chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 67. Jeepers that’s a chilly day. Well yesterday at 4:30pm as I was preparing to leave for w**k, I noticed the AC was running and the house, though not hot, just didn’t seem that cool. Placed my hand over the register and…..no air was coming out. Sounded like the fan was running but no air moving. Of course I had no time to do anything and just shut the system down and left. I did look at one of the pipes and it had ice on it so the unit “froze up”. At about mid 80’s there is no reason for it to freeze up. Especially when it ran just fine at 100+ degrees for that week or two. This morning I went down and turned on the furnace and the AC started blowing and the fan was running and air was moving. Odd. I would understand the air not being cold if the unit froze up, but I don’t get the not blowing air. It sure sounded to me like the fan was turning. Oh well, I’ll call the BIL ( HVAC business owner and all around swell guy. Married to Brenda's twin. The one I trust. The ONLY one I trust) and have him come out and check the thing out. Doesn’t look like We’ll need it for a while anyway. If again til next year. OK, I understand now. But even if it was as they said, it would concern me that the first thing the HS said was the credit card company wouldn't refund the money after a year. It's not their place to refund the money. It's teh vendors. But anyway, I understand more and more companies are going advance orders so they get a handle on how their item will sell at first and to get some working capital to help with the production costs. BUT, it doesn’t mean I like it. Sounds like most people feel like me and that is, when I hand over my money, I want a product. Shipping time I can live with. But I do not like and would not give money on a “someday”. Would you go to Walmart and give them $20 for an item they may or may not get….someday? I wouldn’t. It appears that for any item of value or detail in the MRR industry though, that seems to be the coming thing. Oh well, what are you gonna do.

Since I fixed the HVAC system so quickly this morning and I have a little extra time, I just might treat myself to a little Ziva break. UM! I mean an episode of NCIS before I get moving on to what ever else comes up. I’m thinking mow Mom’s yard. Unless it’s too cold out.

Oh Ray- Sorry, didn't mean to leave you hanging. Almost forgot. The Surpentine belt. The 4 bazillion point vehicle inspection you were going to have. They always point out the "cracked serpantine belt". Neglecting to mention they will crack fairly quickly and that is acceptable as long as the cracks are not lined across the belt or if chunks are missing. But hey, to those not in the know, the belt looks like a cracked mess and they sell a belt.
Good morning. I will take time for a cinnamon roll with my coffee today, Chloe. Your cheery smile helps in the morning.
We put another fascia board up last night. Looks like I have another Saturday free to work around home. Maybe I will start on some ballasting. The Walthers order should arrive Thursday.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good morning. It's 76 and mostly cloudy. The high is expected to be 97 and it will be sunny.Today I'm looking at several old Athearn locos I haven't run for over a year because of electrical/mechanical problems from the viewpoint of tearing them down for parts. It'll also free up space on the display rack for the GP9 and FP7 that are coming.
