Fruit smoothie, please.
***Tom, both puppies (my wife has since aquired a male puppy, too) are doing well. This is the little males first night out. We saw a Great Horned owl fly over at dusk and we are having second thoughts. As for our old male, my wife is doing everything she can to give him a chance at recovery. I do not hold out much hope, but I'll wait for my wife to tell me when she's exhausted every avenue. BTW, I like your MRRing pics.
Good night all. And thanks for the kind words.

Good Morning Gang!
Hi, Bill!
This will be day # 2 at the STALAG - maybe I get to see Colonel Klink
Aside from this, it´ll be a nice day, with a chance of at least some sunshine during the day.
Have a good one!
GOOD MORNING TO YOU!!!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
howmus Galaxy and tcwright, IIRC 414 goes from Corning to Watkins? I have driven it many times. Always fun pulling a 2 ton trailer behind the pickup climbing the hill out of Watkins Glen..... Especially on snow covered roads in Winter....... Galaxy, I would think you would get off 17 in Waverly and go through VanEtten to Watkins Glen. THAT is the way we always came home to Canandaigua when We lived in Waverly. Much shorter I would think....????

Ray, Ray. I hate to say it, but TSK, TSK. You did NOT read what we were trying to do!!! We were trying to BYPASS Watkins Glen ALL TOGETHER as teh RACE patrons would { overnighters anyway, not so much day-trippers} be SETTLING INTO W G.
From here, bascially all roads, be it 79 in Ithaca, rt 96 out of Owego through Spencer and on to Van Etten, rt 13 and whatever...ALL ROADS LEAD TO W G on the SHORTEST trip to get to 14 A and Penn Yan.
Since we were trying to avoid a "clog" in W G we THOUGHT we might go another way and come out ABOVE W G. But that would mean another longer trip down 17/I86 BEYOND ELmira and COrning.
We decided to go through W G anyway, as going the new way would add about 1-1.5 hours on our trip.
There's your update!
Good morning all...Hey Jeffrey I have that same model. The sunrise feed mill,if you get the chance to put it together let me know how it goes.I,d like to put mine together but it,s going in the same area as my engine facilty. I can,t do anything with this area till WATHERS gets the lead out of there caboose and delivers their turntable.Oh well I got an e-mail reponse from Diamond Scale Products saying they will be opening up in late August first week of Sept. They are stocking sheives and just setting things up. They had to close because the building next to them caught fire last Jan so they had to do some reconstruction. If all goes well I will order a turntable from them and cancel the one from Walthers
L&N.....Gone but not forgotten
Good Morning All,
That engine house looks right at home Tom!
Curt, the Diamond Alkaloid plant was just east of me in Painesville, OH. The rolling stock on my layout depicts all Great Lakes Railroads or manufacturers if they actually had the rolling stock just to give the layout a feel of location. Diamond alkaloid and Shamrock merged to become Diamond Shamrock a few years ago. Anyway the real collector’s item is a Diamond alkaloid tanks car with Painesville, Ohio printed on the car.
Garry that fish is almost half as big as your granddaughters! I bet they had fun pulling that one out of the lake.Rob, I hope your pet gets back on his feet soon.
After walking around I figure Ulrich is at the zoo in Germany and not my work place…
Paul, I was on a detail to eradicate hogs down in Kingsville NAS, they were wandering out on the runway and busting up landing gear on the planes. Those are some tough hogs, the Marine security detail required we carry a side arm just in case our shotgun or rifle failed.

Just a regular to go please ladies. Was at the Equinox hillclimb over the weekend just south of Manchester Vt. Both #1 son and I ran and we both did well. He ran our Lotus 7 and I ran the Lotus18 plus we supported 4 other customers cars as well.
Rob - sorry to hear about your dog. We had Ruperts hip w..ked on as he could barely move and he's coming along well though he still has his days when he is obviously sore. At age 9 he likes the colder weather while Rattie the toy fox terrier likes the heat better (real name is Amelia - she's 3 and nothing but skin and bone).
Been picking at some of the factory buildings for the layout as I mod them to fit new surroundings Once I get them close I'll pull the buildings and start putting down turnouts and then track to try. Probably I'll use aligator clips and DC at first so I can ensure it all functions properly before hooking up the DCC and drops and bus. I still have the river and bridges plus a swing gate to suss out so no hurry to do a loop yet.
Gotta run - lots to do and we're short handed this week again. I'll try to catch up all the posts later though I see Sue's back and Bill as well. Plus Ulrich has a new gig? CUL, J.R.
Good morning, Chloe. Just a quick coffee before heading to the pool for some laps. If I ever get a day off, I will spend more time.
I see Garry's granddaughters are enjoying the sunshine. Fun.
Tom, Your progress is amazing. Nice engine shed.
JR, How long is your racing season?
Sue
Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.
Good morning. It's 75° and mostly cloudy. The high will be 99° (feel like 110°) and it will be partly cloudy. This morning I'm working on what appears to an Athearn 40' boxcar. I have to find a couple of the metal coupler box clips or modify a couple of Kadee coupler box covers to fit. It should prove interesting. The herald on the car is 'Roller Freight' and what could be a car number 'Timken R.B.X.88'. It has the old Athearn metal sprung trucks so I'm handling them carefully. In other business I have a deal going to trade a few locos for a few other locos. I've yet to see how that pans out.

Good Morning!! Just coffee please. I want to save room for that big thank you dinner from Kalmbach for renewing my subscription. Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Rob- I’m sorry to hear about your dog. I’m sure you will do what is best. Take care of yourself too. I see Duke woke up….good to see he’s still kickin. Sometimes you wonder. Guess he’s not really asleep all the time like we think. Tom- Nice job on the engine house! Fits perfect I think. OH MY GOSH! I have seen Rizzoli and Isles a couple times and NEVER realized that Isles was Kate…er Sasha. My she has changed her appearance. Hair color I guess mainly. But I never would have guessed. Oh I suppose I would have one day when I saw her name. Or more accurately paid attention to her name.

KEN! NO! Hemi Challenger eh? NO! Looooved Gibbs car. Hope to see more of it. (ahem) I do not need another school boy crush (chuckle). Besides, I have… ….personal reasons for my fondness for Ziva. She reminds me of my wife when we were much younger. Twins? No. But striking similarities both physically and um, whatever it is that makes you….you. Attitude, actions, propensity for violence at the drop of a hat. (that one still rears it’s ugly head on occasion. whoa) Almost …eerie. (siiiigh)Time has changed the exterior, but the insides, the parts that count, are still there.
Paul- Sorry about the feral hogs problem. I know they are getting bad. If I was closer I’d sure lend a few rounds to help feed the needy. WHICH I might say I’m glad they participate in. It’s a good program. Would a.... oh yeah, it's Texas. A Winchester model 94 in .30-.30 would be just fine.
Tim- I’d make sure that Walthers is not in the “trail” of the new order before getting out of line to get in another.
Well (getting lower) gotta do the grocery trucks this morn. One of the kids that w**ks there has moved in the apartment above the restaurant so maybe I’ll get lucky and he’ll offer to do the groceries and I won’t have to do them anymore. THAT would be great. It’s just getting harder and harder to take the time to do it. Winter is not much of an issue, but summer…that gets in the way.
Trimmed the next to last bedroom with paint yesterday. Found I missed another 23,115 nail holes so by the time I got them filled and the stuff would dry… I just decided to paint either today or tomorrow. Probably tomorrow. Maybe today and get it done.Yah. Naaaah. Tomorrow. Today would be best, I have time… so far. But then again…..
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Morning all! Chloe, biscuits, gravy, side of sausage, tall glass of milk please ma'am.
I'm glad to see that a good chunk of us all like NCIS, and that we all have the hots for either Ziva or Abby...
Well, today is put the deck belt on the riding lawnmower as yesterday I broke it...and its play with my trains day as the wife and girls are away from the house! WOOOOOHOOOO!!! I think I'm also going to tool around on here for a bit and see how things are going. Might also check out the online sale places and see if I can score anything that resembles a deal.
Todd do the painting today, that way tomorrow you can play with trains! Work first, play after....always my motto....
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, I'll have a raisin bran muffin and a cup (or two) of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug.
Galaxy...... Ah yes.... I do remember the thing about Watkins started with trying to avoid the place. I always liked Watkins Glen so the concept of avoiding it didn't register..... (I have always made an exception to THAT during race weekends though...). Now you could just stay on 96 all the way to Waterloo, come through Geneva on 5 & 20 then take 14A south through Penn Yan to get to the Windmill...... Not more than 30 or 40 miles more....
Paul, sounds like fun with the ferral hogs... We got a notice THAT they are now invading the Finger Lakes. they have been on the watch for them out at Boy Scout Camp this summer. The guy who was the the former property chair and Health chair for the old council was convinced they were in camp (they aren't) so during staff week they started a rumor THAT one attacked one of the Staff (a real outdoors type...) and he killed it with his Boy Scout jackknife..... They had a pig roast half way through staff week.... LOL
Well (nearly full at present), the roofer showed up this morning to do the shed and I got a call from the eye doctor saying my new bifocals are in and he wants to do the last test on me at 11. Best get moving!

Hi Guys and Gals!
I survived day # 2 at the STALAG. Herr Klink was actually quite entertaining today, but my head is buzzing like a hornet´s nest. The main part of the training is legal issues and legal German is as bad as legal English, if not worse.
Zoe, a strong coffee for me, please dear!
See you a little later, after I have recovered a little...
I finally finished with the Roller Freight boxcar. I used Kadee coupler box covers after putting in Kadee couplers. I used a 7/64" drill bit to increase the size of the hole in the covers so they'd fit over to center pin in the Athearn coupler box. After I put in the coupler I put the cover on the box and tied it down by wrapping a strand of aluminum wire around it several times then super glued it in place. I repeated this with the other cover. They aren't coming off anytime soon. The coupler height has been checked against a Kadee height gauge. The coupler at one end was high. The car had metal washers on the bolsters as shims. I removed the washers at that end and the coupler is now at the proper height.
Just finished adding Kadee's to another car. This one is a billboard reefer with a different billboard on each side. This will be a show car only as it's outside my era.
Afternoon All,
Well it took me around 2.5 hours but I got my first dwarf up and running. I figure to save about 45 minutes apiece on the rest since I now know what to do and have done a little prep work on the other 4. I have it hooked to the Tortoise and it operates on switch position. Believe it or not I had to redo the bases again. I guess 4 times really is the charm. I'm off to w**k at 1500.
Jeff- I love those billboard cars.
Everyone take care.

Chopped Brisket sandwich, sweet potato fries and a Dr Pepper please. I’ll hit the BBQ sauce bar to choose the sauce. (still don’t see how we fit all this stuff in this car)
Welp, turns out I didn’t take Bama’s advice. One truck has not showed (shown?) yet so I have to head back uptown to check here in a minute.
Ray- I can see an opportunity here at the camp with the piggy's. Indulge me for a second if you will. Firearm safety, hunter safety, marksmanship, wilderness survival, cooking AND community service on a couple fronts. Probably a few others I’ve missed too. Hm? What say ye ol chap? Just a thought.
Ulrich- Over here in the land of spoiling milk and soured honey, they have a tendency to teach the guard dogs commands in German. Some say because the majority of guard dogs are German and that’s the language they understand (chuckle). Really it’s to avoid confusion on the dogs part. Do they teach the guard dogs over there a foreign language? I’m sure English would not be a wise choice considering the popularity of the language. Kinda like Spanish over here.
Jeff- Been staring at that caboose of yours. Something just doesn’t look right and as obvious as it may seem to you or others, I’m just not seeing it. What have you done to make it look…..strange to me?
I have a…..few cars that are outside my era too. BUT, I learned from listening to Tom over the last couple years to say, “oh well, I like it so on the rails she goes!!” See I glean more from this diner than just ogling at pictures and finding out when we all mow our yards.
Time to head back uptown. Raw sausage is to be delivered and I don’t want it to sit out.
TMarsh Jeff- Been staring at that caboose of yours. Something just doesn’t look right and as obvious as it may seem to you or others, I’m just not seeing it. What have you done to make it look…..strange to me?
Jeff ... That caboose appears to be an MDC Roundhouse "Old Timer Caboose" ... Some of the early cabooses had side doors and no end platforms.

jeffrey-wimberly TMarsh: Jeff- Been staring at that caboose of yours. Something just doesn’t look right and as obvious as it may seem to you or others, I’m just not seeing it. What have you done to make it look…..strange to me? It doesn't have platforms nor end ladders. No marker lights at the ends. The only markers are on the sides next to the ladders by the side doors. I have no idea who made it as there's no manufacturers mark. I have a bit over half a dozen cars that are of the same general fashion.
TMarsh: Jeff- Been staring at that caboose of yours. Something just doesn’t look right and as obvious as it may seem to you or others, I’m just not seeing it. What have you done to make it look…..strange to me?
Oh wasn't that just as obvious as the nose on my face.
Heartland Division CB&Q Jeff ... That caboose appears to be an MDC Roundhouse "Old Timer Caboose" ... Some of the early cabooses had side doors and no end platforms.
It may be but every MDC car I have has their mark on the bottom. These have nothing. It's the same with the other 6 or 7 cars.

Todd - German is a language very well suited for shouting short and snappy commands, but we sometimes use English commands for training our dogs...
I modified an MDC "old timer" (platform end version) caboose to be my branch line caboose. It has no MDC markings. I did not install the truss rods because I wanted it to look like the car shops had changed to a steel frame when viewed from a normal angle. Turning it over, It looks a lot like yours.
Here is my branch line caboose.
Barry ... Your photo reminds me of the CN mainline between Windsor and Toronto.
Curt ... Nice work on the dwarf and the tracks, too.
Heartland Division CB&Q Barry ... Your photo reminds me of the CN mainline between Windsor and Toronto.
That is the CN mainline...I took the photo from the footbridge on Finkle Street in Woodstock ON...right through the Purina Mill...
Curt: Those dwarves look good there...how are they working out so far?
The footbridge ...
Good afternoon, all. I'll just have a mid-afternoon coffee and donut, please, ladies.
Jeff: I built the N scale version of the Sunrise Feed Mill a few years ago. At least I think it was the Sunrise--it sure looks exactly like it.
Garry: My, don't your granddaughters look happy and proud with the fish they caught. That's a good sized catch for anyone, let alone two little girls. Did they put it back or eat it? Reminded me of the time my daughter was that age a long time ago and she went out fishing with her aunt and uncle. She caught a little fish. I don't think it was any longer than my hand. Nevertheless she was proud of her accomplishment and named it "Shelly" if I remember correctly. She didn't have any problems with "Shelly" being the guest of honour at supper time though. It was only a couple of bites for her and her brother. Her uncle did the dirty work and cooked it over the campfire.
Rob: Sorry to hear about your dog. Losing a beloved pet is very traumatic. We have lost two cats over the years. One had cancer and had to be put down and the other was sick and died while I was holding her. Now THAT was traumatic. It still bothers me to this day. Our current cat is 15 and has outlived both his predecessors. He just had his annual checkup and was declared quite healthy and could live a few more years. The vet's office has dozens of pictures of their clients' pets up on the walls in the examining rooms and we spotted a picture of a 20 year old cat. It would be nice if ours could live to that age, but it's always something one has to be prepared for.
Well, I'm on a quest for windows. N scale windows, that is. I'm starting to scratch build a structure that I want to copy and put on my layout. I'm looking for windows that are approx. 44" X 75". i tried the Grandtline on-line catalogue and they've got lots of windows but very few have the dimensions stated. I sent them an email and am waiting for a reply--I hope I get one. If I can't find any windows, I'll have to put some very small angle strips around the openings to represent the frames. At least the windows have no mullions--they're just one big sheet of tinted glass.

Afternoon all, just a sweet tea for me, about to have to head off to Heather (oldest daughter) dance class, since I'm normally at w**k on Tuesday nights and miss it. Still haven't gotten around to messing with my SD40-2 yet. I do have all the stuff out, having started, been too busy online doing stuff, or fixing little odds and ends around the house. You ever have one of those days?
I have to agree on the feral hog issue and their being in a scout camp, you could teach numerous issues by having the kids go out with a few hunters and round them up.....and you could always have a bbq afterwards with hog and feed the scouts and the community, sounds like a great idea to me (great job on bringing it up Todd)
Well (mostly full, but getting lower) I think I'd better pack it off for right now and head over to the dance school to watch the kid do twirls and such, good thing the CSX main is right across the street, if I'm lucky I'll get some train watching in too!
I put Kadee couplers on nine cars today. Eight of those needed Kadee coupler boxes as their Rail Line coupler boxes were incompatible with Kadee's unless a screw was used through the center hole. I used the screws salvaged from the Rail Line boxes to secure the Kadee box/coupler/cover assembly by the ears on the side of the box. After all, that's what they're there for and the holes for the screws were already in the cars. The shortest cars were a billboard reefer (Cutler Mill & Yard/Savidge Lumber Company) and two cabooses (B&O bay window #C2502, MDC green Old Timer #843). A 40' Roller Freight boxcar, a 37' MKT stock car, a 37' Schlitz billboard reefer, a 37' Wilson and Company reefer, a 40' Cudahy's reefer and a 42' Blatz reefer. I don't know what I'm going to do with all these old time cars. Right now they just decorate a shelf.
