Good Morning Folks!
Not even 6 am and I am up for an hour already. Daylight is just breaking - actually, this is my time of the day.
Chloe, coffee and a cheese roll, please.
Rob - I am sorry to hear about your loss. Like all who are dear to our hearts, Unaka is not gone, just in another room...
Tom - are those turnouts power routing? Sounds as if adding a few feeders in your yard will remedy your problem.
Ray - for your neat and tidy office! Who´s that bloke on the picture?
Ken - Learning? Am I supposed to learn something at the STALAG? I did not know that ....
Sorry for not posting a recent picture of the waterfall. Here it is:
Looks OK to me...
My time at the STALAG is costing me a lot of energy & time, so my MRRing activities have gone down. Right now I am making up plans in my head for the station module to the left. A little birdie has told me, that there will be a station building delivered to me on my upcoming birthday (ahem, tomorrow), so that will give me a push to continue.
Well, I need to get going - CUL & have a good one!

Hi ho - it´s off to the STALAG I go!
Sir Madog Galaxy - according to my clock, he already posted at midnight - sharp! Sorry, late again!
Ulrich...I must have backed up TWO pages to see if he posted as I apparently missed it on the previous page!!!
I never expect to beat YOU Ulrich as you are in totally different time zone by hours!
I don't TRY to beat anyone it depends on when I get up after going to bed at 9:30pm my time {NYDT} {for now} soon to be NYST}.
BUT, I seem to be the only one who puts the time/date stamp on AS REQUESTED.! {my claim to fame}
Good Morning Flo coffee please in my L&N cup........Thank you
L&N.....Gone but not forgotten
It's always a challenge to beat Ulrich at posting first thing in the morning..not going to see me beat him either..unless I am up at that hour of the morning...
Anyhow...Good Morning.
It is already 70F out going to a sticky high of 84F ..feeling like 97F today....oh..and with the 50% chance of those ol' t'underin'boomers and showers today as well
Have to do some house cleaning today then get some groceries..as I'm getting ready for the weekend on-call..and then I get to play with the choochoos again
Flo, I'll just have a coffee and a breakfast bagel please..I'll be at the RC for a bit
Good Morning!! Coffee and a pecan caramel roll please. No just one Thank you, those things are huge. Patchy fog before 7am. Otherwise, mostly sunny, with a high near 89. Kinda wish the temps would bound into the 90’s for a while. Bet Paul wouldn’t mind swapping me 10 degrees. Sounds kinda odd, but it’s suppose to be in the mid 80’s for a week. Seems a bit cool for August. We could use some rain too, but that’s not real unusual cept for the last few years.

Speaking of August. Do you guys realize August is HALF OVER??!! Man……they said time would start to fly but this month is really going fast. 5 days until the release of NCIS season 8 on DVD.
Painted the room at Mom’s yesterday as well as a few other little odds and ends. Up early today thanks to No 1fat baby dog. Now that I’m up…., I’m awake. Well, been up since 4 decided might as well just get up. I hope I can get a nap in before w**k tonight.
Curt- Hm. All my life I never knew skunks would eat, let alone catch, a bird. Learn something new every day.
Rob- I’m sorry to here about Unaka. Take care of yourself. Blood should only be where it belongs or explained by a small cut.
Ray- Office looks pretty good. I notice it appears you have the same office chair as I do. Right down to the highlights around the base. Or do we call that weathering ? Bout time for me to get a new one though, this one creeps down on me. But, until it breaks I’ll probably keep it.
¢ Hm. Well whaduhya know. Learned two things so far. Since my Num Lock is always on anyway, it’s just Alt / 0162. Best write that down.
Ooo. I like Criminal Minds too.
Ulrich- Saaaay, that looks pretty good! Now THAT my friend, with a little touch up on the lighting (not a complaint I know you did not take the picture to be published in a magazine) and I see a “Trackside Photos” shot there.
HEY! How come Barry gets Birthday cake? That’s ok, that’s ok. I can wait until tomorrow. Or is it tonight? Time zones. Hard to keep straight.
Missy has her yearly Doggy Doctor appointment this morn and I was told it is my duty to take her there this time. We’ll see how the rest of the day pans out. Although ‘tis been a good day already (any day you learn something is a good day) I assume from here out it will either go up, stay the same or plummet.
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning All,
Sue I bought software that prints custom backdrop buildings. Print, then glue to chip board or project board and poof you have a custom building. My current back drop project is 15 x 144 behind my small town of Fox Creek. Next project is going to be for the port city of Swan Creek at 15 x 192”.
Jeff, the “Don’t Stand Me Still” is tough to find since BEL-BEV is gone. Nice addition to your collection.
Rob, sorry for your loss, you did everything you could.
Curt, the only way I caught it was a debate on the red striped vs. black stripe crossing arms. I remember as a kid in the early 80’s that they all changed color on the Detroit-Toledo Short Line RR one summer. I think it was part of the Staggers Rail Act of 1980 that removed the right hand or overhead on center signal rule and the change to red on crossing arms. Oh not to mention ditch lights on locomotives. Things they experimented with on Conrail in the late 70’s.
Look up Herron Rail: Steam and Diesel on the PRR volume II. 1950’s video of the PRR in the Sandusky, OH area. I didn’t realize that in 1955 PRR bought AT&SF Texans to work in the Sandusky area to transfer NW coal cars to the ports. Passenger service was 90% shark nose by then.

Good morning. It's 78° with some clouds. The high will be 104° (feel like 111°) and there's a 20% chance of an afternoon thunderstorm.Never got the chance yesterday to work on the Pennsylvania and Railbox boxcars nor the C&O gondola. Today I'll try to get some weathering work done on the Railbox and the gondola. I'm not touching the Pennsylvania boxcar as it looks like it may be going to a new home. I haven't heard back from the interested party yet. I also have an AHM US Army flatcar that looks way too clean. The army flats I see down here look like they've been through a war zone a few times and the one I have is going to reflect that.Since the Railbox is already on the shop track it'll be up first.

Just a regular to go again, still buried in w..k. 80's yesterday, 70's today with rain forecast for later as well.
Rob, sorry to hear bout Unaka. You'll always have the memories and really, at least he didn't suffer for a long time.
Ulrich, Happy Birthday a day early. With my schedule these days it's best to send the greetings whilst I'm here....
Tom - unless you want to get out the continuity tester, the best way to deal with the PECO problem is as Curt did. I had one turnout that just wouldn't route so I jumpered it. If the ones of both makes are not functioning I'dd go up stream towards the yard lead and concentrate on the last one that does. If they've been uprooted, did you check the little tiny wires embedded in the back of the turnout by the frog? Had one of those adrift too once.
I'm at least trying to keep up with posts between sprints around the shop. Hope the rest of you have a good day. CUL, J.R.
Good Morning Folks, and today I will make ¢.
Flo, just a cup of coffee for now please.
You know Jeffery, you are smarter than I look!
Rob I am Sorry to hear about Unaka. I sort of understand why some people don't want pets, it is hard when it is there time go. I am sure he had a happy life.
Ulrich While it is a day early anyway. Thanks for he updated photo, I am saving them.
Gary Far as me being in the engineer seat, it not till you see a Big Boy in person that you realize how big they are! They had the window fixed so that it was only 8 inches wide, bet it is a good 7 foot above the ground.
Todd LOL, that but a smile on my faces! ¢
Hope to get some railroading things done today. Hope to get the Big Boy back on line. It shorts out anytime it hits a high spot. Think a couple of Kadee washers between the frame and engines will get the job done.
Think it is time to add some more turnouts so I have more run around track. It will make switching a lot easier, and I would like more places where the A & B line can cross over.
But, the honey do list has to be done. Well, maybe I will have time to get the Big Boy going.
Later.
Ken
I hate Rust
Good morning, Chloe. I plan to sit in this back booth for a while. Let's see who shows up to share coffee with me. I brought in a special Birthday Cake for Ulrich.
Tom, I hope you work through the problem to your yard. We are happier with the Peco turnouts than the Walthers, but we couldn't get the #8's in Pecos when we started our present layout. It is also easier to find the electorfrogs in the Pecos. Larry wired the frogs in the Walthers turnouts in the original section. I changed my technique to the floquil felt markers for painting ties and rusting the rails. It goes really fast. The cleanup around the points is easier to manage. I was reading an old article in MR that suggested windex for cleanup instead of a brite boy. I plan to try that this weekend. My current project is in the Centralia yard where I am replacing the ties at the rail joiners, painting ties & rusting the rails.
Garry, I might be quiet around your place without the granddaughters. You will have to bury yourself in the layout.
Rob, Sorry about Unaka. It is so hard to loose a family member.
Ray, Your office looks like a good space. What does your work bench look like?
Lee, We used the Walthers Instant Buildings, Backstreet buildings for Centralia, with custom buildings filling in to give forced perspective. For our staging yard, we purchased the industrial district & main street. I attach them to the 1/4" black foam board from staples. We cut a strip of 3/4" pressed board that will be bricked. There will be a sidewalk on top with pedestrians. Larry has painted the backdrop with hills and clouds. The fun part of working together is the creating of a scene. Can't wait to see yours.
Our weather has been 70-80 for the last 3 weeks. Tuesday it jumped up to 84. I call our cooler than normal weather pleasant. We usually have a couple of weeks in the summer the get close to 100, but not last year and probably not this year. Oh, well.

Good Afternoon,
back from my duty at the STALAG. Herr Klink topped himself in being entertaining. I am still waiting for something to learn to come
Janie, mug of dark roast and a slice of that cherry crumble pie, please!
Sue - well, how sweet of you. Look at that gorgeous cake. Now I won´t tell Petra about it - she can be a little jealous occasionally...
Simon- I will check on that!
Ken - I never had a chance to see a Big Boy, but I have a hunch they didn´t get that name for nothing
Todd - I have only a desk lamp and a chair lamp to do the lighting, but I will have some pictures taken by a friend of mine, who is a professional photographer. Let´s see how they will turn out.
Barry - how come the cars of the 1960´s and early 1970´s looked so much more powerful that today´s, having twice the hp´s under their hood? Nice pic of one of my favorites - the Stingray.
Galaxy - I am wondering why Bill is beating me nearly every morning. He must be staying up until midnight sharp, just to say Good Morning to us. Isn´t that nice of him?
Catching some rest now - Petra is serving an early supper, as I had no lunch.
CUL!

Mornin' everyone!
Wow... 3 pages of stuff to catch up on this morning and the only seat left is at the Rivet Counter... Zoe, when you get a chance I'll have a breakfast bagel w/ cheese and a cup of dark roast..... you brought it already. Thank you Ma'am!
Big Boy photos... Ulrich here is one that will give you an idea of the size of them. They are not however the record holders for much of anything. There were more powerful locos, longer locos, heaver locos, locos with much greater tractive effort than the Big Boy. But when you average everything together, the beast could pull a 5 mile long coal drag on level ground at 50 mph. The kids standing in at the front of the old girl were some of the boys in my old Scout Troop back a dozen or so years ago when we did the RR Merit Badge at Steamtown.
Oh, Zoe, save me a slice of THAT cake Sue brought in (for lunch), I'll celebrate Ulrich's birthday both days.... Sue, workbench? you mean this thing?
Well (full of water now), I finally cleaned it last winter and built on a bit for better organization. Now looks more like this:
Ulrich, the poster on the wall was a gift from my #2 son. I became a fan of Shakespeare as a freshman at Eastman. Ended up taking 5 courses on Shakespeare by the time I got my Masters Degree. I think it was the Bawdiness of the Elizabethan Culture and how it was used on stage that originally intrigued me. Lines like, "'tis a pity desire should so outlive performance (King Henry the 4th. Part II)" spoken by Prince Hal IIRC observing the off stage "performance" of Sir John Falstaff and Doll Tearsheet. I still love the character of Sir John and all his foibles.... ("the better part of valour is discreetion!" which is NOT the feeling of Shakespeare or the gentry of the period, but rather who Falstaff was, the cheat, the gambler, the womanizer, the thief... THAT evil which is in all of us.)
Todd, you have a worn out chair too?
Gotta get moving, have lots of stuff to get done today!
Later!

We'll get there sooner or later!
Afternoon everybody. Yesterday I received an Atlas MP15DC that I had on pre-order. It's for the Cambria and Indiana Railroad. I just ran it for about 30 minutes on the test track, and it's a nice, quiet runner. Very smooth. There are a few detail parts to install, but they are easy ones. That now represents 33 different railroads which ran in Western Pennsylvania in my collection. I also have 2 Pittsburgh Railways streetcars as well. A pre-war PCC and a post-war PCC. I don't call them trolleys because in Pittsburgh, everybody always referred to them as streetcars. Oh, at first I thought there might be a problem as the MP15DC wouldn't run in reverse. But I gave the power pack the good old, time tested method of checking, by smacking it a good one. Works fine now...
Today is also the wife's birthday. The old girl is 72. I'm used to her now, so I think I'll hang on to her. They just delivered the roses I ordered. I also got her a gift card so she can buy audio books to listen to. I also got her a couple of Dept. 56 Halloween Village accesories for her collection. She is trying to make up her mind if she wants to go out for dinner tonight, or wait until Sunday evening. Don't ask me why, because I don't ask either. I just nod and say whatever. Makes life easier.
Think I'll get a glass of lemonade and tackle those detail parts now. Everyone have a good one.

***Ulrich, "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" . The module looks great. Well done!
***Garry, if memory serves me, Unaka means "Great White Mountain", or something along those lines. It was certainly an appropriate name for him.
Feeling better today. Whatever was causing the problem is improving. I'll keep drinking extra water today to flush out the kidneys.
Have a good day y'all.
Cheers! Rob

Evening All,
Well I worked on my dwarf signals today. Finally got done at 4 PM. I think if it could of been a problem today it was. I have a total of 4 installed. When I opened one of the envelopes one of the light wires fell out. The unit is sealed so is not repairable. I sent a Email to NJ Intl. to get a replacement. I sure hope they stand by their products or I am out $20 and they have lost a customer. Two signals went in pretty easy then the last one even though it worked when I bench tested it it was dead when I hooked it up. After removing it from the layout I found a bad section on the common wire. I fixed that and re-installed it and now it works fine. All in all fairly frustrating today.
Tom- Do you have power coming out of both tracks on the exit end of the turnout?
Barry- That is a gorgeous vet. Is it yours?
Todd- Actually skunks are constantly scavenging for food, and are opportunistic eaters.
Lee- I believe that Athearn just recently released the "Merchandise Service" and the "Don't stand me still" freight cars. It may be Atlas.
Jeff- How did you weather that gondola? It is amazing.
Garry- I really like the photo of Reggie's. Very well done.
Ulrich- Happy Birthday.
Everybody have a good night.
