Morning All,

Flo, I will have a coffee please.

Hot and Humid again. Supposed to rain this afternoon, about 30% chance. News said the area around the house got 1.5 inches yesterday. Really nothing new around here.

Ulrich- Glad the surgery went well for your Mother.

Ken- Hope you did not blow your engine in the Daytona. My son's car is finally done. It was almost $3,000 including 2 tows and tax.Sad

Whoever posted about talking to EMS, you are right, just when you think you have seen or heard everything, you are amazed again. Rarely is it boring.

Prayers for everyone in need. Take care.

Lunchtime in sunny northern Germany!

Janie, I´ll have a burger with all the works, and a RBF to wash it down, please & thanks!

The implantation of the ICD went well, and we hope this will facilitate a step-up improvement in my Mom´s condition. She will be able to come home tomorrow, or Friday at the latest. In the meantime, we have arranged for support. We found a cook who will come daily to do the shopping and a prepare a hot meal for my parents, there is a lady doing the laundry and clean-up work in the household and Petra and I will search for a place near to us, but that will take a little while. I feel much more relieved, knowing they will be taken care of.

Lee - sorry, no relation to me. Ulrich is a common first name in Germany, not so much a last name.

Corey - yes, we are a talkative bunch in here and it pays off to stay tuned Cool We´d like to share ...

Ken - I am sorry to hear about the motor issue. i hope it´s not beyond repair. Take care, pal!

I am glad that some of the MIA´s found their way back to the diner, but there are still plenty of names on the list. I miss Keith and his wonderful doings in N scale. Any word from him?

Y´ all have a good one!

Good Morning,

Severe T-Storms this afternoon, 87F/67F, possible dangerous lightning (I guess there is a “safe” lightning?)

The SD9’s should be here this afternoon.

Ulrich said: “J.R. - From what I have learned, there must have been a time when the German share of the American population was actually quite large. Quite a lot of their descendants are now model railroading enthusiasts. Names like Kalmbach, Hediger, Koester give a clue to that.”  Hey don’t forget about Ulrich Scale Models, I think that’s a German name, LOL.  They were bought out by Walther’s a few years ago…

Good morning folks.

Man, this place sure is busy.  I'm not use to a coffee shop or diner with this much traffic.  Since I stopped in yesterday I figured I may as well try the breakfast menu today!

It's suppose to be sunny with highs in the low 80's.   I'll take that every day please!

So far in my model railroad adventure I've focused on layout building only.  I've spent almost no time working on actual trains.  I had a few boxcar kits purchased from ebay over the past year that have been waiting for my attention.  The other day, I decided that the layout is moving along nicely so it was time to build the kits.  I know older Roundhouse and Blue Box kits are crude by modern standards, but I enjoyed building them.  I added KaDee couplers, metal wheels and gave them a coat of dullcoat.  Then I painted the wheels with a floquil rust colored pen and added rusty chalk to the truck frames.  The bodies still need to be weathered but I think they're looking good so far.  This is a part of the hobby that has had a low priority for me.  I have to say, it's fun to work on something other than scenery for a change.  This is why I love this hobby, if you are bored with one aspect of the hobby, try something else.  Now I need to work up the nerve to weather my locomotives!

Other than that I don't know much.

Have a good day everyone.

Bowl of un-salted mixed nuts, please.

***Ken, I understand priorities well, just have a problem with figuring out which priority is most pressing. In your case, it's pretty obvious though. Wish I did have that part for you.

***Ray, I'll second your advice.

We've been out in the screened porch enjoying a lightning show. "Storm Cat" is still out there, actually taking a nap on the couch. "Millie" (older cat) is bug-eyed and hiding under the stairs. What a contrast between them.

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a decaf for me.  I'll be in the back booth relaxing for a while.

I have all of 9 more tents to trim around at camp.....  Ran out of batteries and my own energy at just about quitting time anyway.  I did get one and 2/3 campsites done and trimmed around the latrines and storage sheds in both campsites as well.  These both have 3' tall field grass growing by the tent platforms so it is heavy going to say the least.  I do like using the battery operated trimmer as it is about half the weight of my old gas one and runs so much quieter.  The rest of the tent will take about an hour and a half to do and there may be a couple other spots in camp the ranger wants done as well.

Tonight I did a bit of gardening here at home and then disappeared down to the train room.  I fabricated 6 little HO scale cone type fire buckets for the engine house.  Three of them are now installed.  the other 3 will wait til tomorrow.  Then I will go back to cutting and putting in the rafters.........  I may get this finished before long.

TSF....  Some advise.  i know you won't like it and it is just not the way you young guys do things today and I know this advise is so (as my son would put it) Twentieth Century.....  Try this though.  Either listen to the tunes, or read the book.  Yep as a teacher with 32 years in the classroom, I have never ever had even one student who could ever play an instrument well and do something else at the same time.  One of my least favorite teachers of all time, a piano teacher who convinced an awful lot of Eastman Students not to go into music for a career, once told me to stop "playing" the piano for 3 hours a day and actually "Practice" the piano for 15 to 20 minutes a day.  aka: put all my attention to what I was doing!  Guess what?  It works.  Try doing one thing at a time, get it done, and then enjoy your iPhone without interruption from the "learning" you are trying to do!!! Good luck Ken. I know how finicky those 2.5's can be. My mother used to have an 88 LeBaron convertible that had one and I hated working on the darn thing. It was a computer geeks idea of heaven. Electronic controls for everything! It could probably tell you the temperature of your butt in the seat if you really wanted to know. When it ran good (which wasn't often) it gave a smooth ride. Most of the time it was running on 3 cylinders. The 3rd cylinder in line was always the first to drop. Give it a new set of plugs and wires and it was happy, at least for a little while. In about 6 months that 3rd cylinder would drop out again and the darn car couldn't get out of the way if you threw a rock at it.. In 1995 I pitched the 2.5 and shoehorned in a 3.3 60° V6. It ran much better after that and was an additional selling point when we traded it in on a Mercury Marquis.

 Evening folks Sigh

 Flo, beer please. Sigh

Hope you all had a better day than me! Sigh

Why my long faces you ask? Sigh I think I lost the motor in my Dodge Daytona today going to work. Sigh

While I was going through Collinsville I heard a cylinder drop out, then pick pack up, then drop and pick back up. Did not think a lot about it, have not put plugs in it for around 100,000 miles, maybe a little less. When I pick up speed, it should clear up. Hit 40 MPH and ever thing seemed fine, then I had a dead miss that did not go away.

What really worries me is when I accelerated there was a God Awful rattle from the bottom end! Plus this engine has never been right. Guess it was 10 years ago (also when we installed the new plugs) Scott and I installed this engine I bought from a salvage yard. When we fired it up, it ran hot and to me seemed like a head problem.  Asked Scott to pull the head, and send to a machine shop to have it checked for cracks and make sure it was straight. Scott yanked the head, found a blown replacement head gasket, check the head with a ruler called it straight and slapped the head back on with out saying anything to me first. Plus the 2.5 liter engine has a one time use head bolts, should be replaced ever time to pull the head. He used the old ones again.

Engine acted sort of OK for a while then started having odd problems. Ran hotter when it was cold out, cooler when it was hot. Ran cooler at higher RPM's and warmer at lower RPMs. If I was in 3rd gear and it got warm, pull second gear and the engine temp would drop. Plus it started using water sometimes, not all the time. Well I nursed for another 100,000 miles, could be more.

Wife picked me up today and the Daytona is still at work. Wednesday is my day off, and I am heading up to work to run a compression test and check the plugs. If I have compression in all the holes I will try new plugs and hope for the best.

Never did see any white smoke out the tailpipe and there is no oil in the water. So wish me luck Wednesday please!

Todd and others, think we are talking about a different kind of Tap here. Kind I am trying to figure out is for lead. I will see if I post the link to the site later. I tried last night and it time out. I saved some as a word file and cannot change it to a jpg file so I can post it. I will try a copy and paste in a new posting, but I don't think it will work right.

Rob You are going to need to stay on me about the stereo gear. I am going to be distracted with my current car problem. Now, if yo happen to have a 2.5 liter Dodge head, I will be all over it!

Galaxy Glad you don't have puss dripping down your throat. (never thought I would type that) Far as all the time you have taken giving me advices A/C well with the current car problem I am afraid you may have wasted your time.

Jeffery Hum, I bet your lemonade would kill the last few Gnat's I have! Smile, Wink & Grin More than likely me as well!

Ulrich Hope things work outs for your family. Looking forward to seeing some more modeling from you.

See you all in a few minutes with the Test Tap Posting.

Good evening. It's been a wet day here. Plenty of thunder, lightning and wind and for all that we got an eighth of an inch of rain.

I was pretty busy today, having to take my mother here, there then somewhere somewhere else all afternoon. I really don't like doing that as driving her car is really uncomfortable for me, but there's no way to get her into and out of my van without some kind of ramp. She wouldn't like it though as there's no A/C or radio. My father gave me an early birthday present. Two big bottles of Tabasco sauce. One Original Flavor and the other is the Tabasco Jalapeno flavor. That's good as I ran out of the Jalapeno yesterday. I just fixed myself a tall glass of grape juice with twelve drops of both Tabasco sauces in it. Tasty. I had to do more work on the wiper bushings on the van. A light lubricant wasn't heavy enough and the plastic bushings tore apart. So today I got a Super Disk Brake Caliper Lubricant to use on them. It's made to be used all the metal, plastic and rubber parts of a caliper so I figure it should be good enough for plastic bushings. It really slippery stuff.

You may be taking your life into your own hands with that one. The Naga Jolokia pepper is 855,000 scoville units. A pimento (thing they stuff in olives) is 100 to 500 Scoville units. Downright tame. Tabasco Green Pepper sauce (mild jalapeno) is 600 to 1,200 Scoville units. A regular jalapeno is 3,500 to 5,000, the same as the red Tabasco I use. Tabasco's habanero pepper sauce is 7,000 to 8,000. Da Bomb Beyond Insanity is the hottest I've gone with a drink - 119,700, way under 855,000. I'll be looking for a mushroom cloud in your area.

I do hope that everyone had a great and safe holiday. Ours was just terrific and very busy, so this is the first chance I've had to drop in and give a small summary. On Sunday we went railfanning on Norfolk Southern's main line and was rewarded with eight trains in under two hours. Three of the first four had leased power, and some trains were around 130 cars. I was somewhat surprised, as I thought it might be slow due to the upcoming holiday. We would have stayed longer, but it starting to get hot.

Yesterday we were invited to a cookout at my nephews, which is always a great time with plenty of good food. And today, my niece and her family were in town so they dropped in for a visit. It's a treat when we get to see them all. Now if I could just catch up with my nephew and his daughters in South Carolina, it would make this a very special month.

A number of years ago I started to collect HO engines and rolling stock of railroads which either run today, or have in the past, in Western Pennsylvania. I'm kind of limiting myself to the time frame of 1940 through the present day. Going through my invertory list, I discovered I now have engines representing 32 different railroads. That alone shows what a great history of railroading has evolved in Western Pennsylvania. There are many more railroads which I will probably never will be able to obtain representative engines of. They were such small operations that I really doubt any manufacturer would produce them. If I went back to the 1800's, the list if staggering. Anyway, not being a railroad historian, does anyone know of any other area that has a history of railroading comparable to the above. I never thought when I began collecting that I would end up with that much. As a matter of fact, neither did the Chief Financial Officer (pronounced "wife"), as she often reminds me.

Tomorrow after breakfast at our local diner, it's a drive up to the dealership to get the car its annual state inspection and emission inspection. The wife has been creating a list of other stops she figures will be on our way home. That's described as anything within 50 miles of the interstate. Should be a long day.

Everybody have a great one.    Tom

***Galaxy, sure don't envy you with that dental work. Hope you get it all finished and heal up quickly.

Picked up a few bags of sakrete and am fixing to head out to the pasture fence project. It's sultry here so will keep the truck running with the ac on to take breaks in.

 Sir Madog:

Jeff - I will try that. I am fond of hot & spicy food since I visited India and Korea. Petra has grown some really hot peppers I might use instead pf the Jalapeno peppers. I´ll report on the results Cool

Ahh, somebody stepping up to take a chance. I'll be waiting to see what you think. I use Tabasco and jalapeno juice or the Tabasco jalapeno because I like them. Sometimes I use the juice from habanero peppers for an extra bite.

There is a version we had up here that used about 6 drops of XXX Pain's Bio-chemical Warfare in it alongside the habanero juice. I'm thinking of trying it with some serrano juice....

Often something THAT seems to work fine will find you stuck without a good way to get where you need to be 4 or 5 measures down the road......  Also different fingerings and positions will give a better tone and fluidity than others.  A classic guitar artist will have to take time to try many different ways to play some phrases before deciding exactly how it can be interpreted best...........  Man!  I've got to get THAT axe out and get to w*rk again.

Ray- Thanks. Believe it or not that made me feel a liiiiittle bit better about myself. And yes you should.

Sir Madog

Jeff - I will try that. I am fond of hot & spicy food since I visited India and Korea. Petra has grown some really hot peppers I might use instead pf the Jalapeno peppers. I´ll report on the results Cool

Ahh, somebody stepping up to take a chance. I'll be waiting to see what you think. I use Tabasco and jalapeno juice or the Tabasco jalapeno because I like them. Sometimes I use the juice from habanero peppers for an extra bite.

Ulrich: Hopefully the ICD will help your mother out ...I know it did here..

Galaxy:  Hopefully they will get the thing done then...

We had an interesting day here..it actually rained here for a bit...one single boom and then a 10 minute monsoonal thing..no it is even stickier than it was earlier...good thing the AC was on....

I spent some of the afternoon going through my workstation in here trying to get it a little more organized..think that that will work?Confused...it might...then again..it might not...we'll see...

Chloe, I'll have a ribeye platter with a large RBF please...I'll be at the corner booth here...Dinner

Good Evening Folks,

well, today has seen an emotional see-saw on the issue of moving into assisted living. My Mom is feeling better and starts to think that she will be able to handle the household on her own, once she will be out of the hospital. The doc came to see my father today and made it quite clear, that both need a lot of help and assistance to master their lives. I am not argueing with my parents on that issue, either the do it or I won´t be able to help them.

My mother will have an ICD implanted tomorrow, which hopefully helps to control her arhytmia.

Flo, I´ll have a Beer to finish off the day. Please & thanks.

YGW - Krefeld is close to the Dutch border, but I hav doubts that your forefathers come from that area. The name of Guetner is very common in the southwestern part of Germany, Heidelberg region or even futher south.

Jeff - I will try that. I am fond of hot & spicy food since I visited India and Korea. Petra has grown some really hot peppers I might use instead pf the Jalapeno peppers. I´ll report on the results Cool

Garry - "UK baseball cap"? That´s not Queen Lizzy´s place, but University of Kentucky, I presume?

Corey - welcome back, I hope you are staying on ...

J.R. - From what I have learned, there must have been a time when the German share of the American population was actually quite large. Quite a lot of their decendants are now model railroading enthusiasts. Names like Kalmbach, Hediger, Koester give a clue to that.

Well, that´s all from me for today - CU tomorrow and have a good one!

Aw, nuts!

Since t he infection is down and it isn't draining nasty stuff down the back of my throat anymore, the dentist is delaying finishing the root canal til friday. all they did today was take inpressions so an extra clasp can be added to my upper partial plate so it stays in better. Friday he will have more tiem and we will all show up early to do the job cutting into lunch hour for them. FFriday I should also get my partial back with an extra clamp to hold it in place better. He would have been a bit rushed today if he tried to finsihse the root canal and we don't want THAT> Tongue Tied

SO the good drugs are running out.

 HO and N Scale.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.
