Good Morning
I see Bill is busy raising his post count....
We are still sunny and sticky..but no where near as hot or as humid as some of you guys...still..in all of July we only got 4mm of rain here...so they are advising people here to water their trees...especially those recently planted and such..
oh...might as well place this here...
Flo, I'll just have a coffee and a breakfast bagel for now please..I'll be at the RC for a bit...
blownout cylinder yeah were not seeing any rain as of late here in Brantford, I think there calling for some on Sunday and Monday though. Hopefully, because my front lawn looks like hay. Funny how we had such a wet spring and then into a dry period. I guess thats why the lawns have taken such a hit they never were able to establish a deep root system and now they burn easier then if we had a normal spring with normal rainfall.
Good Morning!! Coffee and waffles please. Yup butter and maple syrup thanks. From where? Oh I don’t care, just as long as it’s real and comes from the east end. Sunny, with a high near 87.

Tom- Sounds like if your house is ever endangered by a fire, the department will spend extra care saving the garage. May have to rebuild the house, but the garage will be there!
Ulrich- Magazine article? Go for it! It’ll give you something to do as well. I say do it.
Ray- 50 foot huh, never watered a tree in my life (well..., other than "gotta water the tree" watering a tree ) other than a newby I planted and that wasn't for very long either…… wait, this is the guy who mows like every other day even in the rain right?
Today shall be for me, like every other day. Except for the parts that are different. I must finish mowing the yard. Yes I only mowed about half yesterday. Got started late and had to quit in plenty of time to get ready to go to w**k. The same shall happen today. But hopefully not the got started to late to get finished part.
By the way. If you happen to unearth a couple Schwann’s Breakfast Pockets whilst rooting through the freezer and you know you haven’t purchased anything from the guy in at least two years, take it from me, just go ahead and throw them away.
Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good morning.
Todd: Schwann's Breakfast Pockets? Two years old? No thanks.
Ulrich ... I hope you brought some of Petra's strudel. You should see the yucky stuff Todd is talking about.
Our freezer is not very full. It was completely cleaned out following major power outages this spring due to storms.
L&NTim.... I think you mentioned major repair costs to your truck. My wife's car has had electrical problems for the past month. It has been at the dealer for 2 weeks. Finally they determined it needs a new electonic control unit (computer). The part sells for $750.00. Yikes!

Morning All,
Not much happening in my part of hot, muggy, sunny FL. I don't have to be outside much today so I am happy. Getting ready to go to Chiro then fill up the truck. Really the only thing I have planned today is testing on my layout.
I found a system to control my PL signals. It is made by Logic Rail and is specifically designed for PRR /B&O PL signals and is triggered by IR leads. I will probably ask my wife to give them as a Xmas present, I will probably be ready to install them by then.
Everybody have a good day.

Good Afternoon Folks,
I can hardly believe it, this is mid July. It is raining outside, and the temperature does not exceed 55 F!
Chloe, a mug of hot coffee, please - I need to warm me up.
Garry - sorry, but I just ate the remains of the cherry crumble pie Petra made 2 days ago. I will have a word with her for more of that good stuff.
Todd - Schwan´s Breakfast Pockets? Does not really sound good. I would not want to start the day with any of that ready-made stuff. Nuthin´better than a home cooked meal!
Well, I am up to nothing today - just toying around with some ideas for my 4th module. Might run to the home improvement place to get some lumber, so I can start on it tomorrow.
Have a good one.
Good Morning All,
Just a regular to go please Zoe. Yeah, another one a' them days. Up to now stripping tires off wheels and now back on the uprights I've trying all week to finish. up to 84F today but really not as humid as it's been so not so bad.
Hope G geets his dental stuff finished up soon - it's gotta be a drag living with all that pain and inconvenience.
Jeff - hope the legs doing better and that you have some positive news from your parents.
Ulrich - All you can do is hang in there and hope for the best. Parents can be stubborn, no?
Bill - you'll need to go some to catch up Galaxy and Jeff. Did you ever start a layout as you mentioned eons ago?
Todd - yeah you're spot on on the copyright stuff - just hate to see the resource dry up with no recourse. And no I've never had an issue paying for copies of old manuals I just appreciate being able to get the information I need and yes, legally is way better.
Is anyone here thinking of doing DCC turnouts? If I integrate the turnouts for the mainline/branchline, I could wander about with the wireless remote and route consists (not that I'd have more than 3 at once). Or is it all just bone idle and silly on a round the walls room size layout? I don't think the configuration of the room and where the majority of the running track is will lend itself to a central control panel. Anyone have ideas there? And yes it's light years away from where I am presently - just trying to noodle out where the wiring runs will go. CUL, J.R.
GMTRacing Ulrich - All you can do is hang in there and hope for the best. Parents can be stubborn, no?
I told my son that he will be entitled to shoot us, should we ever be that way. His answer was "I´ll be with you in two hours"
Mornin' everyone!
Zoe, has Galaxy been sharing his, uh, medications??? I'll have the eggs, bacon, spam, cheese, spam, sausage and spam.................. without any spam please! ("Spam, spam, spam, spam..........")
Chris, I know THAT group! I used to do sound for them..... Loved THAT comic strip! Opus Rocks!
Barry I like the, uh, "Running Board" on THAT old car! You know they just don't make them like THAT any more....... Oh and Blackie has this to say about THAT kittie doing tricks:
Mornin' Bill! If you say "Mornin'" back to me it will help your post count...... ROFLMAO!
Todd, yep! One and the same....... I'll get a photo of the poor little plants he is out watering sometime today....
I see several others snuck in while I was composing my post... Any of you know what Mozart did after he died? (My 8th. graders used to love this one.)
No? OK, He Decomposed!!!
Well (almost empty), I have a busy day of determining my "Options" today. First the roof on the shed, and then my Health Insurance "Options".

WEll, bad news
WE are no longer in the house hunting business.
With the economy the way it is now, Funds that were avaialble are no longer available and funds to help out have dried up and we have ourselves amassed some debt to be cleared first. It is a sad day, but a fact of reality.
Of course if the USA government doesn't get it's act together to avoid default and pay out Social Security including disability checks that people like me and Jeffrey rely on, we "could be in heap big trouble Kimosabe".
While my father has tried to set himself up to NOT to have to move in with either me or my brother, WE may have to move in with HIM if things go real sour real quick here in the USA like in Greece and Italy too. He is worried too about his older age, as he watches neighbor after neighbor in his neighborhood {all aging retirees form the same company} rely on their children or have long-term health care insure run out on them and retirement funds dry up. He foresees a day when he may have to conceed to that as well, and with my In Laws in bad shape and health, he sees the days growing shorter in his older life.
MOH and I are in bad shape as far as the future goes, unless we get inheritances which may be eaten up by parental medical bills. I am already essentially retired and have had no raise in 3 years in SSD and don't see one coming soon either while everything has gone up tremendously,MOH's sticking point is the point between guaranteed full time work and only part time work, let alone raises. THe company feels everyone they employ should be greatful for the job they have and MOH is being blocked by a {insert expletive here} manager for any promotions as the manager doesn't favor MOH.
SO, to add to my headache today I have had to tell teh agent we are suspending our house search, and appreciate her time.
I will go sulk with my throbbing head in the corner both now.
Thought you could use a good laugh today!

Galaxy .. I feel badly about your "bad news". I wish you and "MOH" the best. Prayers for you. Regarding Uncle Sam finances, they are getting worse all the time. Unfortunately, the programs you say you need are the ones Uncle Sam can not fully afford. 90% of the debt can be explained with just one department (Health and Human Services which includes Medicare). Uncle Sam, therefore, must rein in the runaway spending on H&HS. Instead however, Uncle Sam has gone in the other direction and added more programs to H&HS. So, those of us who depend on Medicare and other programs will eventually have to find other funding on our own. I don't mean to be political. I'm just saying the numbers tell us we must reduce spending on those programs along with other spending cuts. That day is very close based on USA's bond rating that may be downgraded. It sounds like Germany's problems are at least as bad based on Ulrich's posts. Again, Galaxy, prayers for you. Don't sulk if you can help it. Your friends here are always glad to see you in the diner. Smile.
Inch ... Funny story. Good to see you.
Good Afternoon...
Afternoon temperatures are now 82F feeling like 88F...and sunny. Another dry as a bone day for us..no rain at all...
Galaxy: Man!! That sounds really rough there! They are already sounding pretty grim up here about the US chances of not facing a downgrade in their credit rating either....
Well( needs a bit of cleaning out)...had a good workout in the basement..had to go and clean out the back root cellar just to be able to not smell weird pongs and such from things that had been growing in there.....now it is all clean and ready for next crop harvest...if any exists thereby
Notice the cars in this lot..then the name of the garage...presaged certain things mayhaps?
Well I've been with my parents since about 8 am. Hooked up a new phone for them that has both a corded handset and a cordless handset as well as an answering machine. Their old answering machine curled up it's toes and died yesterday. So my father ran out and bought the best he could find for the absolute lowest price. Natural for him. Unfortunately he knows absolutely zip about electronics. He was able to plug it in to the phone jack and put the cordless unit on to charge. After that he was like a babe lost in the woods. None of the displays on the phone worked. Can't imagine why. He hadn't connected the power pack to it. That might have had something to do with it. So I came over this morning and straightened out his mess and made everything right including setting the date, time and enabling the caller ID (a first for them). So if someone calls and it's a number he finds undesirable he can ignore it. Now, onto the subject of my mother's Mercury Grand Marquis. My father had gotten a part number for an air helper spring kit from the counter man of an auto garage. He tells me to order it sight unseen so I do. Naturally it's the wrong one . Kit for a Jeep Wrangler don't fit a Marquis very well. So a little while ago I went to the TruckSpring.com site and looked up the right one. I have it bookmarked so when he's back from work I can bring it up and we'll order it secure in the knowledge that it's the right one this time instead of going on the word of a clerk who doesn't know one kit from another.I got breakfast and a new shirt out of it so I'm not bothered about it. I just wish would check his information and make sure he's getting the right stuff before ordering.

Good afternoon guys!
I had a fairly productive day on the NKP painting, this guy is tough! you don't realize how many details there are on one of these guys until you have to paint in every small part! Anyway, here is a look at the locomotive as I slowly but surely finish it:
We had an opertunity to run the layout late last night, and it gave me a chance to run our Pennsy T1 and stretch her legs out a bit:
We are dealing with a major spider problem in the basement this summer. Now that we don't have any pets in the house, I think it's time to bomb the basement. I'm tired of vacuuming the layout twice a month!
We'll see ya all tomorrow! have a good evening!

Evening All,
Sitting here nursing my aching back, a little too much bending over today. Going to the club tomorrow around 3pm. MOH and my daughter will be going to get their nails done after my daughter gets off from her part time job at Lowe's.
Everything seems to be running fine on the layout except one section of one siding. I don't know how I am going to fix it. Tried several things today with no success. I think I will give it a week or so then re-look at it. I put back RR ties under the areas that had had them removed during track installation. I think Sunday I'm going to put up my back drop.
Ulrich- You're son sounds a lot like mine. I think you should go for it and do the article. You are a excellent modeler.
Galaxy- Sorry about the end to your house hunting.
Jeff- Hope your foot and ankle are doing better. Even with all the frustration it seems to me you are a good son.
JR- I had thought about DCC controlled turnouts but decided against them for 2 reasons: 1. Cost, and 2. Mental overload while running trains. Sometimes it seems it is all I can do is to just run a train with the throttle.
Stan- I think this is the best one yet. A lot of detail.
Hope everyone has a good night.

Evenin' folks! Sure is noisy around here tonight! Flo just a decaf.... I said Decaf!!!
Psst. Why is Bill so happy lately???
i had the appointment with the Benefits lady over at School. Found out everyone will soon have to make the same choices I was given.... There were 3 options, all are still covered in full by the school system under our contract. Actually all the new options cost the school less than the old Blue Million Plan we had for years. I chose one that has very low co-pays for Rxs, and excellent benefits for Hospital stays, doctor visits and other such things. It doesn't however have hearing aid coverage. Only one option covers Hearing aids. You can get $700 for a pair of hearing aids.... Once in your lifetime. Whoopie! Since the old Blue Million Plan gave me $800 for my first pair that cost me $3500 and THAT was grandfathered in, I went with plan #2... One of the perks our teachers association gave up a lot of $$$ in salaries over the years for is the Insurance coverage for retirees. My sisters school paid hand over fist more than the one where I worked, but she now shells out $2000 a year for her insurance (and that is only a part of the total cost...). THAT means we both have about the same spendable income from our retirements.
I signed in at school and sat down to wait for my appt. A lady walks by who used to be a secretary at the Middle School when I taught there. She is also dating the (nut) guy across the street from me. We yaked for a while and I asked her who the attractive young thing who was in her car when she drove by last night. She grinned and said it was her daughter........ I looked at her said, "you mean that little tiny baby I remember you bringing in to school?" She said, "One and the same"! I told her I was feeling very, very old these days...... Speaking of nut cases...
Here is the yard across the street from me. The guy is a very good neighbor, BTW. It is just he has this "thing" about the lawn and yard.... He has been known to mow his lawn twice in the same day and just loves to water things (our water here is rather pricey BTW). for a living he mows and tends property for the schools.
You can see the shrubs along the front of his property. They were there when he bought the house 10 or so years ago. The tree was (center) was planted by the lady who owned the house about 20 years ago. I doubt either of them really benefit from getting watered daily this time of year. He also likes to complain that his year becomes a small lake every spring.... Go figure?
I got one of the doors back on the shed today all repaired and painted. You can see a bit of difference in the 2 doors on the shed I hope.
Seems I have written a small chapter here tonight, so I think I will head for the back booth and relax for a bit.
[edit] Oh, Curt, I was going to mention, unless there is a good reason to use the throttle to operate the turnout throws, I would just use the standard DPDT Toggles along the fascia of the layout. I helped a friend install decoder equipped torti a few months ago. We got them all hooked up and tried them out. He had to push the button for "turnout", then figure out what one it was and type the number in, then decide which way it needed to be thrown and hit the button for it, and then hit another button to return to the throttle........ (I just reach out and throw the toggle the other way.... Works every time.....)
Later!
Evening Folks
Flo, just a beer please.
Pretty much down in the dumps tonight. Of course it is because lack of funds. Pretty much up the creek with out a paddle. With buying the A/C I am down to a little over $800.00 in savings. I don't have a dime set aside for this coming house payment, have disconnect notices on the electric bill for $500.00 ($260.00) from last month, need to pay the cable bill next week and to top it all off, this check will be $100.00 short because I was given the day off last Saturday.
Far as work being dow we think that maybe we know why. Seems Mel my old partner from Mattress Giant (all so located in Belleville) is telling people We Sale Used Mattress! How we found out about this was last Tuesday while Ben was at my store I had a customer come back and buy after going to Mattress Giant. They told us Mel was talking about some one new in town (meaning us) are selling used mattress. Ben went and Shopped Mel to see what his sepal is!
Seems Mel has a 10 minute presentation a long with charts? While he does not name up, he does tell people where my store is. Ben finally got him to name are company, Mel is not that smart, I should know.
Ben called Mattress Giant corporate offices and later today we heard back that they will stop Mel from bad mouthing us in his round about way.
Ben seems to think that is why are customer count is down. Bad mouthing us will not help Mel to sale more (he sucks as a salesperson) but it just might keep customers he did not sale from coming to my store. While I don't think that is the only reason we are down in contacts, it sure was not helping.
Again I am being self centered and I am sorry for it. But of late I have had a lot on my mind and very little happy thoughts.
Ken

***Ken, sorry to hear of your situation. I would offer to buy some of your extra amps and such to help you out, but I actually have a bit less in my account than you and have no idea when my next painting might sell. It has been beyond bad in this economy.
***Stan, another great work in progress there. Really like your layout pic. Well done!
Didn't accomplish much today. Whether from treatments or the sarc, I have been really run down lately. It is what it is.
Have a good night all.
