Scrambled eggs with veggies, please.

***Ray, that looks like a blast.

***Ken, love those old rusting loco pics. Perhaps not quite as much as restored locos under steam, but still cool.

Re-dug postholes today that had partially filled back in and then set 2 posts out along the road. That's about it. Will be working late in the studio again tonight.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a cup of decaf for me tonight.  Yep, I'll be in the back near the air conditioner.

Forgot to take my meds with supper tonight.....  Blood sugar bounced up to 159 when I took it a few minutes ago.  Had a small snack and took all the medications i am supposed to be taking...  It has been staying between 93 & 115 for the last few weeks so I was a bit surprised.

Got some photos processed from the NMRA Picnic today.  Some of our members getting a ride behind a 4-4-0 Live steamer:

Here is a closeup of the loco:

Several members and guests took turn at the Timesaver:

And here I am presenting a certificate of thanks to the Vice-President of the Finger Lakes Live Steamers:

I'm the good looking guy with the cool hat on the left......Whistling

Cuda, I like the photos!  THAT last one looks they are being reclaimed by Mother Nature......  " Gut at the counter said it could be alignment?"  Next time you might want to take the car to someplace that has a brain at the counter instead....Laugh  Mall Wart???  Why am I not surprised!!Laugh  Oh and don't forget Alignments cost more than wheel balancing.....  Hmmmmmmm???  Wonder if the High School kid doing the "balancing" had ever done one before?

Have a great night everyone!

 Evening Dinners!

Flo, no I don't want a bottle water, I will take bottle beer please! Laugh

Work Front Now I know what to tell the owner why the store is so slow. Everyone is sick from drinking Belleville's water! Only had 2 customers today? Well I should not be shocked, only had 3 last Saturday. So today I read, played guitar, read, played guitar, read some more, played more guitar. Picking out the cords to Iron Man, yep I was bored!

Tire for Town Car Well, first of all Wal Mart lube and tire center is far from being express! They have a check point you have to drive through to get your car looked at. I only had 4 cars in front of me and it took 20 minutes for me to get to the services writer.

Right Rear Tire had a knot in it, so I had that replaced. Had the two front tires balanced because I thought the vibration was coming from the right front. I all so had the locking lug nuts replaced with stranded ones. Cost with a 2 liter bottle of Diet Dew was $106.00.

Bad vibration is gone, but the old one is still there. Hum, I was disappointed.

Tod can I pick your brain again please, I will pay your bar tab! Laugh

Guy at the counter said it could be alignment? Personally I don't think so, uneven tire ware yes but not a vibration. Would you agree?

When tires are balanced, that should catch the vibration? I know, I know yes it should. But I don't know if the bubble balanced or spun balanced the front tires. Guessing a bent rime would not show up on a bubble balances.

Left Rear Tire It was replaced after I bought the car and spun balances and the vibration was there before and after replacement but I will have it doubled checked.

If it is not the wheels or tires only thing left I can think of is bad U joints, unbalanced drive shaft or pinon angel. Pinon Angel, man that drove me nuts for years on the 68 Road Runner. I t had a bad vibration at 60 MPH, below 60, was fine, above 65 it was fine. But in between shuck like a unbroken horse. After countless $$$$$$$$ spent on wheels, tires and drive shaft, found the rear end has slipped on the leaf springs.

I did feel OK after I got to work and did drink a lot more water than Diet Dew today.

Ulrich I am saving all the pictures. That looks pretty impressive so far.

Joe I love abounded engine pictures. Got in steamers pictures to share?

 Later folks.

Good afternoon fellas!

We had a nice steady crowd at the Rail Museum today. Very diverse as well. A couple and their young son and daughter were in, they live in Hornell, NY, but are originally from Ulrich's area near Hamburg. They really enjoyed the N scale layout, and the Father who works for Corning glass was surprised to see that nearly all of our old RR lanterns had original Corning globes, some as old as 120 years.  A couple of friends from around Olean NY dropped by, two brothers who have been RR fans since they were kids. Their dad ran with a bunch of local RR historians and they often tagged along. One of them is a Professor at St. Bonaventure University, and he's arranging a tour of the Western New York and Pennsylvania RR's new shop in olean for his class this fall and wants me to tag along to help explain certain things to the class. Sounds like fun.

Ray- I like your Shay models and your enginehouse is awesome! When my friend Doug fires up his 2' gauge Shay this fall I'll give everyone the heads up so if you can manage to make it here, you can go get a chance to ride behind, and photograph a very rare locomotive. I usually have a week or two advance notice, he's very busy and only manages to operate once or twice a year. I promised Doug I wouldn't post any pics on the internet, but the painting I posted of it is fairly close to the real thing.

Garry-you'll be happy to know that I finally figured out the format for the CB&Q painting, I should have a sketch complete tomorrow barring any disturbances, and with it cooling down next week, I should be able to get painting on it on Monday.

Well everyone have a good evening!

Ray- Though it's probably more than 3, your bottled water habits are just like mine. I don't by the fancy brands, usually it's the Casey's General Store brand. Cheapest and they make no claims it's anything other than...., well, water. When do I get another bottle? Depends. If I lose it, smash it on accident, or when the bottle takes on an odd color in places if you know what I meanWhistling Laugh. When I was on the tractors and trucks I'd have a couple partially filled and froze. I'd put them in my lunch cooler to keep my sandwich cool and also have a cold bottle of water melting. Since the AC in non of my buddies tractors worked, not that I couldn't fix them, he was just to cheap to by the parts they needed (claimed it made him appreciate it more when he got home), and in those enclosed glass cabs even with the windows open choking on the dirt, it didn't take long for the ice to become warm water. Now THAT's when the plastic taste really comes on strongLaugh

Afternoon folks!

Flo, I'll have tall glass of (unsweetened) Iced Tea and a big slice of THAT watermelon over there....

Had a great time at the NMRA Division Picnic today.  Had only 14 members and guests, but we had rides on some Live Steamers, a couple of great models to share (one being my Engine House), several people that tried their hand at the Timesaver, and all kinds of good conversation!

Todd, I usually buy about 3 bottles of water a year out at the museum....  After I drink the plastic flavored liquid inside them, I take them home and refill them from the tap, put them in the fridge and take them with me next time.....  The bottled water industry is one of the biggest consumer rip offs out there.  There are generally higher standards on municipal water supplies than the regulations on bottled water.  I read THAT out on the west coast there is a well known water bottling company that for the price of one pint of their "filtered" water, you can buy something like 350 gallons of the exact same water coming out of the tap in homes in the area.  Now I do know of some places where I wouldn't drink the stuff coming out of the tap.....  Like in Elba, NY where I lived for 2 years....  Commercial Bottled Water is pretty much a necessity of life.....  Now here in Geneva, our water is beautiful, pure water from shore wells by Seneca lake with just a hint of agricultural runoff and the slightest trace of Ontario County Landfill leachate......Whistling

All the people affected by the horrible events in Norway are in my prayers today!

Got to go put away all the stuff from the picnic!

Later!

Well, it's just as I figured. The Tracer wasn't fixed. They had just slapped a new starter on it and rolled it back out into the lot. When my father and I got there he went over and started it. Everything was fine at first then twenty seconds later the AC kicked in and so did the starter. I could hear it across the lot. So my father went and got the boss man and showed him exactly what it's doing. So now that he knows there's a problems they're going to try to find it.

Good Morning!! Coffee and I’ll just cruise past the neeew DONUT BAR!! WOW! How awesome is this? Every donut you can imagine! Oh this is just great. And from the looks of it, just in time for Ray this morning (where do these things come from and how do they get here? Have I mentioned the size of the inside of this place compared to the outside? ) Anyway, Ray's been doing grat on the weight loss and sure could use one from the "Sugar-Free but you sure couldn't prove it from the taste" section.

Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 109.

Well, today I don’t know, again what I’ll do other than head out to Mom’s and do some more cleanup. I need to burn, but I hate to in such heat formy sake and, it is getting a bit dry for others sake.

Thank you for all the well wish for My MIL. Seems there are things going against her to survive the surgery giving her slightly better than a 50/50 chance. (Brenda did NOT need to hear THAT) MIL says to the doc, with a laugh “ I’m a tough old bird. I’ll be here when you're done.”

Garry- I’m with you. I’m doing too many non railroad things. By the way, Abused Grandson is doing well, in fact he is here right now while daughter is at w**k, scolding his younger brother for apparently trying to get Missy in trouble, and explaining to Grandma that he needs to give her a treat because of it. I guess to make up for the wrong doing I suppose. (chuckle) The perp, as far as I know has not been tried yet, but is stil in jail after making bail once only to get sent back in for something not having anything to do with us.

Jeff- I have to laugh as I see so any of these people buying bottled water by the cases around here because they don’t trust municipal water. Now I don’t know off the top of my head which ones are what they are perceived to be ( and there are some), and likewise, I’m not sure which ones are just tap water from some other town. Still, in my mind I laugh. Apparently, if you kow what to look for, you can determine just by reading the label. Or at least you used too. I recall from a while back, seing something that told you what to look for on the labels and ingredients. Similar to being able to decipher if the eggs in the carton are on their first round of expiration dates or have ben recycled for anothe rtry at being sold. If I remember right,  "Pure Spring Water" or "filterd" for example describes many municipalities.

Hey, I ain’t knocking folks for buying bottled water. Nooo, no no. And I'm not talking about people who may buy bottled water for conveniece. I too buy the stuff because sometimes when I'm out and about and stop in at a gas station for a drink, water just sounds better than soda or tea. In fact before they got the pipes run from Springfield and we(Williamsville) started buying water from them, we had our own village well with the stereotypical water tower (now it’s just a purple silo looking thing) that contained the most god awful sludge to come out of the ground. I remember having to turn the faucet on for a few seconds to get the brown out and sometimes the smell…..well luckily it wasn’t all THAT strong and didn’t last forever. WHICH leads me to believe a persons health is in direct relation to what they are around. Get used to stuff and then if you tie into some bad stuff you won’t get knocked out. Example. If you don’t dry your chicken out when cooking it to death and call it done a bit on the rare side a couple times here and there, well then you might get a small manageable amount of salmonella. Thereby giving you natural immune system something to build up a resistance to. An immunization if you will. Then next time you are at a BBQ and someone presents you with an offer to sample one of natures finest dishes, fried chicken that’s been sitting on the picnc table since noon…Chew away because you have a body that can fight it.  Oh you may have to put up with a tummy ache or two and a couple quick trips to the bathroom getting to that point, but it's worth it in the long run. Laugh

Just a though from Doctor Todd A.M.G. ( Amazing Medical Genius)

Welp, all I’m getting done is letting it get hotter and hotter, and I have to get some things done at Mom's. Why? Well because the Realtor called and once again there is a couple from another Realtor who just loooove the house and are real serious. They are selling their house and were just checking to make sure Mom's was still on the market. Don't know if they just have to have it like the last ones or..., no wait. They were the ones before the last ones. The last ones were the ones last month that were going to the bank and would get back with us with an offer in a few days.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Good Afternoon.

More and more horrifying details about the Norwegian massacre keep coming in the news. The death toll is now at 91 people, most of them young folks who just wanted to relax and have in their vacation.

With great sadness we mourn the victims of this ruthless crime.

Flo, just a coffee for me, please.

I spent two hours at my friends place, building the box. It is now up in the attic with its first coat of paint drying. Tomorrow I will warm up the hot wire cutter to add the basic scenery.

Morning all. I'm not hungry, but, I'll take an *ICED COFFEE*, por favor. And hold the pie, please.

Just got back from an early morning surf session with my dad down in Seaside Park. It was fun, but the waves were so-so, better than they are here.

Ulrich, I don't know, that might be me. Perhaps it is. Whistling

Ken, hopefully it's just a little bug, and nothing major in the water.
The water here is the same way. It was contaminated 20-30 years ago, so many people down here are still afraid to drink it. I'm one of those people. I'll just stick to my Poland Spring, thankyouverymuch.

Jeff, free is almost always too good to be true... Sigh

My prayers go out to the victims and their families in Norway. May they rest in peace, and may the killer be served justice.

Not a whole lot to do today, but, again, it's too hot to sit on the beach, so I might just go up for a quick swim. Then, it's off to w**k at five. What else is new...

Catch you guys later,

-Joe

cudaken
think I feel another bladder infection coming on. Must drink more water.

I've had several of those myself. Not pleasant. Bad thing is even some of the so-called 'healthy' brands of bottled water can bring one on. Many are just bottled tap water.

Good morning. It's 78° and partly cloudy. The high will be 94° (109° heat index) and there's a 40% chance of thunderstorms.

I have absolutely no idea what's going to be happening today so I've made no plans. To my knowledge both of my parents cars are still in the shop so I may be called upon at any time to help bring one back. The events of yesterday morning were pretty interesting so it's going to take a bit to top that. Amongst my mail yesterday I found a little gift from the AARP. A small, very cheap looking FM radio stick with ear buds. I gave it a try and couldn't get it to do anything. About right, almost nothing you get free works. Well I decided to give it every chance. Maybe it was the ear buds that didn't work. I tried the headphones from my CD player on it and what do you know, the little thing works. Only picks up local stations and if I'm inside my trailer it picks up absolutely nothing, just like my cell phone.

EDIT: Just got the alert. Gotta go pick up the Tracer.

Good morning.

Ulrich .... With sadness, we are reading about the Norway attacks. Today, we are all "Norwegian". Prayers for them. ...... This tragedy does bring back memories of other such attacks. I recall a photo in the news when we had the Oklahoma City bombing, and the picture showed a fireman holding a dead baby. ..... I recall 9-11-01 very well. Shelley and I were in Nova Scotia, and we spent the day watching horrors on the hotel TV. ... Satan never quits.

My thanks to those who commented on my layout photos.

Stan ... Yes, I include more than one railroad. My fictional dvision of CB&Q has running rights for GN and NP. Sometimes, I run my Katy Texas Special or some Santa Fe trains, and the rationale is they are detoured around wrecks or floods. I still have other trains from long ago including my Rivarossi B&O 2-10-2.

Curt ... The stained glass is part of the church which was a Hallmark Christmas ornament. My background buildings and roads are all smaller than HO scale which forces the perspective. The church is about the size of a scale one-car garage. I simply sprayed the ornament with matte spray, and I placed on the layout.

Johnboy .... The old drawings are really interesting. I have a book of old railroad inventions here, and some of them are rather creative. None of them ever made it past the drawing board.

Ken ... I think the water should be tested by the health department. I hope you do not get a bad infection.

Tom in CA ... I mentioned my GN Great Dome. The dome coach in the NP passenger train (I posted here a few days ago) is a ConCor dome coach, and it was modified using Brass Car Sides parts. I did the same thing for 2 GN dome coaches also. Then Walthers announced the GN empire Builder. Walthers produced both GN and NP dome coaches. So, I put off getting Brass Car SIde parts to make an NP dome-sleeper. To date, Walthers neve made one of those. I think if I made one, Walthers next name train would be the NP North Coast Limited including the dome sleeper. As long as I put off making such a conversion, Walthers will not produce the NCL. .. Ah, Murphy........ Don't you just love the guy?.

I'm doing too many non-model-railroad things. I am slowly working on my Union Station. Very slowly.

Have a nice Saturday!

***Paul, hope the weather improves for you. Drought, eh? We went through a real serious one some years back, which is why we have these two big water storage tanks today. This year we've had plenty of rain to keep the pastures going. And lately the horses are hardly touching their hay at all. But we understand what you're going through completely. Hang in there!

Well, tis' almost 4:30am, so time to hit the hay.

Evening Gang: It's 11:07pm here and still very hot. We have now had 22 days of 100+, but then who's counting. EVERYBODY!!!!! I got the hay from the north field hauled n. That makes 102 bales for the first cutting. Last year we had 300 bales in the first cutting. I don't know if we will get another cutting. We most likely will, but it may not be very much. We did sell an old cow and three calves Wednesday. We did pretty good concerding that the yard was full of cattle. Everyone is selling because they don't have feed. We got almost $1900 for the group. Two weeks ago we would have gotten about $300 more so the price is going done due to the selling spree. I hope that we can hold out for a year or two.

Well it's very late. I'm getting too old for this late night stuff.

Good Morning Folks!

I am still shaken by those terrorists attacks in Norway. This morning´s news report 7 people being killed in the Oslo blast and 80 people killed in the attack on a youth camp nearby.

Please join me in a minute of silent mourning to pay our respect to the victims and the ones they leave behind.

I will be able to build the "box" for my fourth module this afternoon. Tomorrow will see the use of my son´s hot wire cutter for the landscape. It´ll be a challenge to pack all that scenery into those 96 sq. inches, but I am quite confident that something good looking will come out of this exercise. The biggest challenge will be building the "contraption" that is supposed to keep branches and shrubs from falling onto the tracks. I am thinking of using some of the code 70 rail and wire to build it, which means soldering Hmm - not my favorite thing.

Chloe, just some coffee for me, please!

Y´ all have a good one!

Edit: is that you on the picture, Joe?

W**k was good. I was working counter tonight, so it was still hot, but at least I didn't have to run around serving food all night. Not to mention that I'm getting hourly. Same deal tomorrow.

Bill, that ice cream looks delicious! I'll go for one!

And since Bill is posting photos of some cute waitresses, what do you guys think of this waiter? Smile, Wink & Grin

Barry, the worst part of this whole pie thing- I hate coconut. That was just the icing on the cake. Well the pie, actually.

Oh come on guys, not again! *Splat!* I should stop with these bad jokes... Well, at least this time it was apple, my favorite!

Ray, that engine house is absolutely amazing. Can you please stop posting photos of real engine houses and trying to pass them off as your own models? Laugh

Ken, thanks for the comment on the photos! They aren't even good compared to some people's, but I'm getting better! The next step is a better camera, maybe in a few years once I have enough money to make purchases like that more often. Or a graduation present... Mischief
As for my Walthers order, it arrived at the house up north this afternoon. My mom has to go up there tomorrow anyway, so I'm gonna have her bring it back down with her. In retrospect, I probably should have just had it shipped down here...
Regarding the pizzeria, I'm officially a waiter, but am recruited to wash dishes (ugh) every once in a while, and occasionally work the counter, like I did tonight.

Well, it's getting late, so I better head out for the night. See you guys tomorrow!

-Joe

 Evening Folks

 Flo, just a beer please.

While Business was OK today pretty much stunk. Seems I need a tire on the Town Car, I think it is the right front. Car shakes badly anytime I go over 45 MPH. It had as had a minor shake at around 55 MPH, I knew it was there but not really a worry. Today it is a worry, I was afraid to take in on the interstate coming home.

I knew tire prices have gone up, but I was just a little surprised by how much. Tire is a PR 215/70/15, cheapest tire Wall-Mart has for the car is $84.00 and $10.00 for installation and that not counting sales tax. Will have them check the balances first on the front tire's and cross my fingers. I could not see or feel in cupping in the tires.

Weather I never really noticed it being that hot today. Thank goodness I was able to get the A/C going in the town car, other wise I would have asked Flo for the Bath Tube again.

Playing the Guitar. Still working on Free's All Right Now. There are many videos on U-Tube showing how to play the song, but all of then where over my head and hand span. There is no way in heck I can do a 5 fret starch. Then I found some video by I am guessing a 8 year old boy. Finally someone that takes the time to say but you finger here, then here and then here. Big Smile I am now working on the led and does sound like it, just not smooth yet.

Gary The Root Beer was a one time thing, I normally order Frosted Flakes and Diet Dew, but the Dew is for take out. By  the way, great shots of your layout.

Ulrich Hope you get your modules cut today, it is Saturday.

Joe You sure are posting some good photos. Did you get your Digitrax system yet? What do you do at the pizza shop. I have worked at a few of them. I was at Show Biz's  Pizza in it hay day.

Stan Great looking K-4. I think it is more of your weathering than the fact they are brass that makes your engines look so good.

 One of my work horses.

I think even Tom will like that one. Big Smile

   See you all later.

Good evening fellas!

It's the end of another hot one, and we have some thunderstorms rolling in. It'll be nice to get a little water on the grass. I'm getting a lot of time in on the layout right now, I took a few shots around the "other" roundhouse for the fun of it. Here's B&O 4476, a Precision Scale Models brass Q4 outside the roundhouse:

Ulrich, I  think I could handle a nice 55 degree day right about now. I won't complain too much, It'll be January soon enough with below zero temps once again!

Garry, I'm impressed with your layout! It looks like you like to run a number of various RRs on your layout like me. It would be just too boring for me to have only B&O or Pennsy locos.

Curt, Your layout is coming along nicely. When I look at the double track main with one tunnel for one main, it makes me think of my early days on the B&O rail gang. We were laying new track on the west side of Sand Patch grade and there's a tunnel on it called "Shoo Fly" Tunnel. It is exactly the same idea where one main skirts the river, and the other ducks into the tunnel. Remember, there's a prototype for everything!

Ray, I see there was another bad accident east of Rochester. Maybe these people should take the train!

Jeff, That's classic using the hill to jump start the car! I doubt there are many here who haven't done that before! Or at least had to have a push start.

Well guys, I have to surrender the computer to an impatient son. No biggie.

Talk to ya later!

Evenin' Folks!

Janie, Hmmm.  Let's see.....  I     will   have....  I think I'll have what Bill is having.  He appears to be enjoying himself......... WinkWink

I think I am almost packed for the picnic tomorrow.....  I will be taking a truck full of tables, the Timesavor layout, cars, etc, the Engine House to share for Modelers Showcase, the Division poster board, and my lunch......

Anothr hot one here, only got up to 94°F today.  That is 6* cooler than yesterday....  Whoopie!  My Son and the Granddaughters came over for a while, to cool off and help me move the Timesaver and help out the door back on the shed.  Livy, the 4 year old wanted to play with Grandpa's trains.  Who am I to say no to playing with trains.  So the 2 of us headed down to the layout.  She ran the big passenger train out around the loop at Bare Mountain and back to the Hopewell Yard.  As she approached the yard she said, "Opps!"  Papa we didn't stop to let passengers off......  Unfortunately we didn't have time for another time around the layout....    The little one got brought down by her dad and immediately wanted to get down and start grabbing stuff!  She got taken back upstairs very quickly by Dad...  She got to play with Thomas the train for a few minutes.  My son ended getting the evening off from work as they were saying it was too hot in the plant and they decided to cut off to save power (they use a massive amount of electric power and they were afraid of the area going down).

R. G. & E. in Rochester, NY had 5,500 customers without power yesterday by mid afternoon.  They said they used more power in the area than had ever been pulled off the grid for a day.  The problem wasn't the Grid, BTW, but some area breakers that blew.

Last night I installed a newly built Smoke Jack for the loco at the Engine house:

Later!

Ray Seneca Lake, Ontario, and Western R.R. (S.L.O.&W.) in HO

We'll get there sooner or later!

Evening All,

Sitting here relaxing. Got a lot accomplished today, I painted the tunnel and both approaches to it along with ground foam. Did the ground foam for the South Freight siding, Coaling Facility, Diesel and Steam Servicing and the Stock Yard. I still have the North Freight Siding, Passenger Station, Farm and Stub Yard to do.

John Boy- Another great story.

Garry- I really like the stained glass windows, are they stock or a upgrade you did?

Bill- You cool us down then warm us back upLaugh

Prayers for the folks in Norway in their times of troubleAngel.

Everyone have a good night.
