Lunchtime in ol´ Germany!
Chloe, I´ll have a club sandwich and a RBF, please.
Folks, this is a weird day! A guy, whom I haven´t seen for ages, called early this morning, announcing his visit, as he was just passing by our place. Years back, we were business partners, on very friendly terms, but not really close friends. He remembered I was into trains and he just wanted to pass on a few things he had no use for.
This is what he brought along:
It is a complete Marklin Z scale layout, accompanied by a box containing three power packs, 7 locos, and about 50 + cars.
To say the least, I was flabbergasted. It is a $ 2,500 value, if not more. All the stuff is in mint condition, all stock with its original box.
But were to put it? What to do with it. I´d like to sell it, but don´t think I should do it. It is a personal gift. I will get it up and running - maybe I´ll get an idea in the meantime.
The missing piece of track has also arrived, so coming weekend will be MRRing time!
Have a good one!
Good Morning, Sun and clouds today, High 79F. Right now its 62F with 78% humidity.
Last night I continued on with the farm scene at the club layout. I hope to have time this weekend for some work on my layout.
Galaxy, sorry to hear about your tooth, hope the DDS can fix it for your tomorrow.
Ken, stop right there, call BLI, they are very good at over the phone help or having you ship the locomotive to them so they can fix it and send it back to you.
Sawyer, good to see you back.

That last train wreck photo is easy to figure out, they simply wanted to have a baby loco to work in the yard.
Still barely making a dent in the farm work here. Not much to report on.
Healing thoughts to those in need.
Have a good night/morning y'all.

Gosh darn it!!!!! Just about completed typing a long missive addressing all sorts of issues and somehow hit the back key and lost the lot!!!
The potted short version then......
Spent most of yesterday in the ER in agony, and the rest of the day and night in bed sleeping off the effects of muscle relaxants and pain killers.
Today spent the morning having my neck worked over by a Chiropractor, and then sleeping off the effects of today's medication dose.
Tomorrow it is off to the Children's hospital in STL so my eldest son can have surgery on one of his eyes.
Needless to say no train time at all.
Ken. On the Mike, check that a truck has not reversed. Check that the wipers on the axles are clean and not oil contaminated. Make sure that there is a good conduction path up from the wipers through the truck screw, past the insulating spacers and into the metal plates inside the tender. I had big issues with an early BLI Mike and with careful use of an ohm meter was able to track down the issue.
Regarding the motors. See how many are bad and I will try and get replacements from the seller that we purchased them from. I have one bad one and I suspect you have at least 2.

I had a problem with the van today. It would run for a while then labor down and quit. Wait a few minutes and it would crank right back up. The problem was, believe it or not, carburetor icing. The venturi tubes in the throat of the carburetor were icing up. It's probably done it before but I dismissed it as a bad automatic choke and tied the choke back and hadn't had a problem with it until now. It did it today several times. I took the engine cover and air cleaner lid off, started it up and continued on down the road but it wouldn't do it with the air cleaner cover off. So I laid the cover back on the air cleaner and continued on. It wasn't long before it did it again. I quickly pulled over, lifted the top off the air cleaner and looked down the carb and couldn't believe my eyes. Ice in both venturi tubes. It melted away almost as fast as I looked at it. I started looking for a reason and found that a small vent in the bottom of the air cleaner snorkel was stuck closed. This lets in additional heat from the engine. You'd think it wouldn't be a problem on a hot day. I opened it and lubed it with some silicone oil and made sure it would move freely. I put everything back together and it was a perfect angel all the way home. I got home and test started it a few times and it fired off on the first crank every time. Been a while since it's done that. It would usually take three or four turns of the crank before it fired even when it was warm. All due to a 3x5 inch piece of metal it seems.

Good Evening Diners!
A pleasant 83F here in Winterpeg at a quarter to nine. Sun won't set for another hour so likely will be a warm night too. I'm not complaining as it is finally summer with no rain in the forecast.
Had an exciting Monday as we took delivery of the new car on Monday evening. Hopefully it will last at least 11 years like the last one. I finally got through the manual which is 285 pages. Mind you there is a lot of stuff in it relating to options we don't have and also page after page of various warnings such as don't drive with the doors open. Oh well I guess they have to say it or get sued by some idiot who does it. It is a really nice car, far nicer than I ever thought I would be getting but as I mentioned earlier we got a really good deal on it.
No RR stuff for me as it seems it is 9 p.m. by the time I'm done with dinner, errands, walking the dog, etc. Luckily we have the long week-end coming up and I am taking a couple of extra days as holidays. I don't have many days left after the major expedition last February.
Stan, that is one terrific painting you have done. You sure do turn them out quickly. Do you paint 12 hours a day?
Ken, hope the teeth settle down. If sales are poor at your store do the owners plan on doing a little advertising for your location too?
Well I think I'll go watch a little TV now,
CN Charlie
Hi folks
Flo Beer please.
Went to the dentist. Well I knew this was coming, he cannot not do a thing for me! I have 5 teeth that are so badly damaged for all purposes the only thing left are the roots. They need to be removed by a oral surgeon. Like I can afford that. My only hope is to see if I can get taken as a patient at the Alton IL Dental Collage. I will be calling them in the next few days.
Only good news is he will still call in scrips if I get a infection. He all so did not charge me for the visit, you got to love Model Railroaders they are good people.
Work Front Called Shaun today, he was going to work with me this coming Saturday. But he has been pulled out because the store will not be busy with the ad they are running for Fairview Heights store. Do You Think! With ad saying drive only 6.5 miles farther to Fairview you get a extra $100.00 off, what would you do! Big reason I am disappointed I was looking forward to someone to talk to and play guitar with. It is all Shaun's fault you know! He is the one that truly rekindle my desire tp play again and got me Guitar Happy!
Train Front. Trying to get another RIP engine on line. This one is my BLI Monon Heavy Mike. Lost power pick up from the tender, with it being a shorter engine it stalls a lot. I am guessing it sat for 2 years now. It is the old Sound of Power BLI with a QSI decoder. I have asked for help in the DCC Section but feel free to help in the dinner!
Hope to make it to K-10 Model Trains Thursday. Want to get a second reading on the motors before I pitch them or fry a decoder. Have two engines ready to go, a SD 50 and the F7 B. I really hope it is my equipment that I am testing with. A Santa Fe Warbonnet F7 A looks silly by it self.
I hope no one was killed or hurt in this wreck you have to admit it does look a little funny.
See you all Thursday as I spit out teeth remains.

Hey fellas, long time no diner visit. I've got the tab floe, long as Vinnie don't rough me up too bad for being gone so long.
First off, for those of you who don't remember me or are new, my name is Sawyer (pronounced SAW-yer (if you gotta, try a redneck accent). I'm now 16 and write a monthly column in Model Railroad News for the Teen Association of Model Railroaders (I also have a review coming up in August). I play (or used to play) rugby for my local high school club team (that's a huge can of worms as to why I shan't be back). But I'm planning to run Cross-Country for my school this coming school year. I also work at Tyler's Sanitation, doing whatever needs to get done (wash trash carts, help work on trucks, throw stuff away...)
As for model railroading, I'm currently building a layout to be able to take to shows. I've been posting updates in WPF, but here's an outdated overview shot:
Anyways, chat with y'all later. I already ate, and it's my little bro's bday, so no dessert for me...

Evening All,
It rained pretty good here today and the temp is bearable but the humidity is going up again. At w**k today.
Talked to my Son-In-Law and he is coming to the house tomorrow so we can install the counter top in MOH's sewing room.
If you remember I mentioned last night my son's care broke down, well we found out that it was a broken timing chain and associated damage to pistons. It is going to run around $2300 and not be done probably until Tuesday next week.. Of course my son does not have that kind of money so I wonder who will end up paying for it?
Hope everyone has a good evening.

Years ago in I believe 1964 or 65, and I believe it was west of Havre Montana, I came upon a grizzly scene where the Empire Builder had been in a head on accident with a fast freight. What a terrible sight to behold, these were two cab units, I think F-7-9s , and one was virtually inside the other one. Both head end crews had died. My heart went out to those guys then and it does again every time I think about it.

Good Evening, Guys & Gals!
What a weird day! It was so hot & humid over here, that Petra and I felt ill all day long. We did not leave the house, closed the blinds on our windows and just tried to stay cool. Rain came with a big "Boom & Bang" a few moments ago, so it is now starting to get a little more comfortable. I guess I must have some Inuit or polar bear blood in my veins.
It was a day of doing nothing. I watched a few steam videos on Youtube to collect some more ideas for my layout. It is amazing how many nice videos there are - if you are interested to learn something about Japanese steam locos or just enjoy some spectacular pictures, do a search on Youtube using the key words SL C61, SL C62, or SL C57, SL C58 or SL D51. The SL stands for steam locomotive - you would not have guessed this! Actually, I quite like the looks of Japanese steamers, they all have a somewhat familiar face with their German brethren.
I received the kit for the level crossing I want to use on my next module - $ 3 well spent (well add the same amount for shipping ) Took me 2 minutes to assemble - well engineered. I hope now that the missing piece of track comes soon, so I can start to w*rk on the module.
Zoe, just a and put the drinks the gang will be having tonight on my tab.
Ray - I need to persuade Petra to publish her award winning potato salad recipe her, then we can enter into a who makes the best potato salad contest...
YGW - I don´t think I´ll ever make it to that cabin by the lake in this life - maybe in the next
Todd - it must be the season - about a year ago we had that song coming up here
Stan - if I were a rich man I´d commission a picture of my JNR D51 498 with you! Petra is pretty good in water colors, but unfortunately lacks the understanding of a steam loco to paint a picture of it. Women - don´t the know the essentials of life? OK, Zoe, now will you please ... Bang , Clonk - shudder - Ouch!

Good morning all...Its sunny and warm here...I'll have a windy city dog drag it thru the garden, onion rings and a diet coke please...Thank You...

Zoe I'll have the #2 special this morning, over easy on the eggs, bacon, home fries, and a double order of the sourdough toast as well as my daily pot of dark roast coffee in a R&GV RR mug. Please and thank you Ma'am! I'll have a seat with Barry at the Rivet Counter.

yougottawanta asked: "Howmus - would you be willing to send a PM with the recipe for the potato salad ? I have not had any good potato salad since my grandmother passed away? MOH is an outstanding cook but she does not have a good recipe for THAT food."
I don't have the recipe written down... Just in my head. I'll try to post it in here when i have a few minutes to put it on paper.....
I plan on heading back out to camp this afternoon and finishing up the large campsite and getting a few lean-to sites trimmed up.

Good Morning All!Not much to report from the land of Buckeyes on this glorious Wednesday other then I had a great morning of railfanning I saw several trains including NS OCS train and photograph a real oddity..A NS train going around the Northeast connector towards Bellevue and a NS train going around the Southeast connector toward Crestline at the same time! Another oddity was a CF&E hy-rail truck!Slate Creek news. This project is on hold pending a move to larger quarters in the near future..In the mean time I will keep my notes, industry names and original plans intact...I shall have a cup and look over the forums..Have a good'un!

Here are pictures of Burlington 4-6-4’s with and without streamlining.
Good Morning!
How about a Western Omelet like they used to serve at Lowrey AFB, Flo!
Thanks again to everyone for the nice remarks on my paintings!
Heratland division- That's a sharp looking Hudson, and same goes for the scene on your layout! I'm looking into a group of paintings on midwestern trains next, and I have a copy of Steam Locomotives of the Burlington route, so I'll give the 4-6-4's the once over. I'm sure I can find an image I can work with.
Yougottawanta- Yes, I have painted the N&W J and A class, they're near and dear to my heart since I used to chase 611 and 1218 on their trips from Buffalo to Girard Pa with camcorder in hand every summer in the late 80's and early 90's. My oldest son Shane was a babe in arms when his Mother and I took him to Dunkirk NY to see the 1218. He's now 21, and if he had a chance to become an engineer, he'd probably throw away his cushy state job! He is very knowledgable on the Wabco air brake, he knows how and when to use the dynamics, and I know he'd pass the course if he took it. I'm kicking around an N&W painting before my projects head west. I have some of Mr. Links great photos to work with, but I'll probably stick to a daytime painting. I also want to get one good NKP painting in probably after the N&W.
Ok, I'm a little long-winded today. It looks to be a beautiful day outside, I'll see ya all tomorrow!

Good morning Flo ! No thank you, no frying pan facials for me. Wow! what have these guys been up to while I was off one day from the forum???David gets run over by a Mac truck wearing a bikini,LOL! Jeff wants to know how many white walls, who was it you went after with the frying pan ?Got a little rowdy round here didnt it? If it is okay can I have a cup of joe and BLT ? Now jusss ease up a little on the handle of that pan I'll behave myself and wont sit close to those that dont. Hear that David ? You just stay over there on the other side of the diner . If Flo starts swinging I dont want to be in the way of THAT thing! It looks hot and dangerous why, I believe it would leave a mark
Yesterday was rough ! In meetings from 9am straight thru to 1pm.Then called by the VP that the water service installer has walked off the site , What ? Now he knew I had meetings how the heck am I supposed to know whats going on on site? Turns out the guy did not walk off but is ticked about the inspector. THAT GUY IS COSTING US TENS OF THOUSAND OF DOLLARS Okay I feel better now. Then I get this e-mail where the excavater is going to bill us for lost time due to our sub who is supposedly in his way and that our sub was not supposed to be there blah blah...He was the guy who told me our vender could be in on Tuesday ! I cannot wait for these guys to finish the excavation and get off of my site. Because of them my day did not end until around 7pm.Was glad to get home to my two lil princesses and MOH
Blownout cylinder - Smoke alarms! I think they are programmed to go off in the middle of the night. It has happened to me and several other people I know. And now they stick so many of those things in a house and they are connected together its is difficult to tell which one the battery is gone on.
LSWrr - nooooooooooOOOOO! Dont let him buy the N&W and reletter it with B&O ! THATS one of the commandments - Thou shalt not reletter N&W
Todd - THAT inspector with is causing us delays and costing us tens of thousands of dollars. It will probably cost the company about 50 grand to dig up, move the valves, relay the services, relay the asphalt etc....
Howmus - would you be willing to send a PM with the recipe for the potato salad ? I have not had anyt good potato salad since my grandmother passed away? MOH is an outstanding cook but she does not have a good recipe for THAT food.
Stan - do you ever paint N&W? Something like the J pulling round a bend thru the mtns?
Galaxy - Hows THAT tooth coming ? Must be some good drugs you are on by the size of your GOOD MORNINGS !
Ulrich - Left for the lake cabin yet ?
Going to be busy with other things this morning so may not be on until after noon. Got some important stuff that can't wait to take care of.
Packer: Check your PM's.
