Afternoon guys.

I finished today's goals on my research paper, and was able to find enough time to stop in and talk for a while.

Yesterday morning, I want to an open house at Lafayette College in Easton, PA (morning was free because our game was in the evening, more on THAT later...). It was great. The college had just about everything I'm looking for, and the campus was amazing. The only thing is that it is a little on the close side (about an hour from home). However, it's still far enough where I'll have to live on campus (not to mention that it's out of state), so it's not a dealbreaker. Not to mention that NS's Lehigh Line is within walking distance. Mischief
It's definitely staying on the keeper list. Of the three I've visited so far (Lafayette, The College of New Jersey, and Catholic University), it's in the top spot. I'm still planning on visiting Rutgers, Lehigh, Northeastern, and maybe a few others, depending on what I can come up with.

And yesterday evening, we were in Round One of the Morris County Tournament. We were last (20th) seed, and we played Pequannock (13th). THAT was beyond a disaster. We lost 18-2. Obviously, we didn't make it to Round Two...

And I think I did something to my shoulder. It's been bothering me on and off for a while now, but playing has never bothered it. However, practice on Friday and the game yesterday were hurting it, so I talked to the trainer. She said just ice it and rest. So we'll see what happens with THAT.

Well, THAT's enough from me. What's new with you guys? I'll be at the RC if anyone wants to talk.

EDIT: Looks like I've got TOP. Eat up, but go easy on me, cause I'm still broke!

I'll have a porter house steak, roasted potatoes, green beans and a piece of that apple pie. For my drink I'll have iced tea with peach.

My curiousity has finally got the best of me. What is this thread about? I have been on the these forums for a few months but I still haven't figured it out.

Hello Lone Geep, Welcome to the diner. Here we talk about things that are off topic mostly. What are you doing today, what's going on in your world, and we also talk about trains and layouts and that sort of stuff.

Afternoon.

Urlich- 380? that's not far. My mom puts more than that on her van in a week. My last name is Lohmar and a little google search turned Lohmar Germany up.

BTW, where did you grow up?

Well, (dark subject) I got a picture of the Jeep. Since the picture's been taken, the back hatch's been color sanded.

Its not the best image to get the flake in, but that's basically how she sits right now.

Afternoon All,

Flo could I get a RBF please?

Hot today of course. I started today trying to find tape for my control panel. Found it at store 3, the problem was the width. So I laid down the tape and painted over it. I then pulled up the tape. It's not perfect but I am happy with it. Photo below. Thanks to all that helped tell me how to do it.

Galaxy-  Hope your migraine gets better sooner rather than later. Good luck with the bed bugs. Everytime I hear about them it seems like they are something out of the Middle Ages.

TMarsh- I know what you mean about the other half. Sat I decided I better go to the Apopka art and plant sale with her. I may not be very smart but after almost 33 years of marriage I know how to read the wind so to speak.  I joined a train club when I got back into MRR after about 40 years. They have a large layout and I have made several new friends. They are also a very good knowledge base like this site and are willing to help me in my construction if I need it, so the club works for me.

Thortenney- Welcome. Like you I really enjoy this forum and there are some really great people here.

Ulrich- It's good to be back in Germany, although when I was there in Buedigen it was still the FRG (early 70's). My father was stationed there and I finished High School in Frankfurt.

Everybody have a good night.

TMarsh,  Thanks for the welcome! I had a layout (1st attempt) I tore it down last fall. I am gonna start a second layout attempt  any day In a different room in my house. It's a loft on the third floor, about 10'x20'  The ceiling is sloped on one side from the roof so i have been racking my brain on what or how to move forward. I have pretty good woodworking skills and I have a pretty good shop in the garage and I am lucky enough to have quite a few nice tools lots of clamps and pretty much any thing a guy would need to make a great layout. Anyway I guess the thing I am missing is a plan for the bench work and a track plan. I thought about just building some bench work to fit the room and to go from there. But I don't think that's the best way to go? I spent the winter building a pretty nice hobby room for myself.(I think) I made a large desk with some shelf space. It has power and a lot of light. I also built a air brush spray booth and a couple of other tables for projects display and storage. I could post a few pictures if any of you are interested? The paint booth works great some of you may want to see it so you can make one for yourself? To answer your question about the club I mentioned.  It is just a group of railroaders we get together once a month for a couple of hours and share idea's and work on projects. We usually have some one give us a clinic on anything from scratch building or weathering etc. this month one of our expert members is doing a clinic on DCC. Should come in handy for a beginner like me. Any way thanks again to those of you who said welcome! Thayne,

Afternoon/Evenin', Janie - I'll have a bowl of chili with some oyster crackers, grated cheddar over it, and a RBF, please 'n' thanks! (And the color today is May-flowers pink, since what wasn't drowned by all THAT April rain should be popping up shortly!)

Looks like we are somewhere in Europe, based on the colorful loco in Ulrich's pic link. That is one thing, in Europe their locos have more than just 'plain black' steamers! Would we be in Mecklenberg? (I cheated - looked it up using a search...) Ah, I see you beat me to it. Thumbs Up, Wayne.

SFCouple (Wayne), your layout should be fun to run - I loved that site where you got the plan. Amazing stuff on that site. Did you know the person who had made that layout? His trees were awesome, too. Thumbs Up

Hey, Ken, I figured it might be a stretch, but t'was worth a shot. As you said, sure wish those orders would be going out sooner than later this (or the next) month!

Chris, I stopped by Wally's place after I posted last night and picked up a copy so I could see your handiw**k. You did have that one nailed on the elevator - almost got me convinced to make the one I'll be building weathered grey (but not quite...). Sounds like (from your comment) someone else needs to get his CFO more occupied with stuff in the house...Whaddya think, Todd? Wink

Barry, I'm guessing on your post, that you put the additional typing in between the photo and the actual end of your re-post. (But I could be wrong...) Sounds (KA-BOOOOMM!!! Surprise) like you've been having bunches of the t'underboomers your way, eh? Your doctor's waiting on the last of the test results to make his/her best guess, I take it.

Thanks to all for the compliments on the record shop (which started out as Walthers' "Southtown HiFi"). I decided that the owner (I'm thinking "Big John's Stacks of Wax" might be a good name - if I can fit it on the signboard) wanted plenty of light in from the windows, so his patrons could see all the great selection of 45's and albums that he has in the shop. Still leaves enough room in the back area for receiving shipments, the employees' bathroom and a lunch area, though. I plan on fixing up a small speaker under the shop's location on the layout (wherever that ends up being), hooked up to a small mp3 player or such that will be playing 1950's music. THAT's my plan, anyway...

Curt - if you liked the plan, go see the link that Wayne posted to the site whose plan he's started from. THAT guy did a great job - totally droolworthy! Stick out tongue I see you did your layout panel in Pennsy colors? Cool! [Cool

TeenSteam, I'm waiting to see how great your Jeep looks now after the painting is done. Please post soon. Yeah

Galaxy, get the exterminator in soon; I hear those bedbugs can be a major problem! How you got them (at this point) is secondary to: "How (and how quickly) can we get rid of them?" Glad your migraines are better today (and hopefully soon gone).

Earlier today, I was looking online for info about tents for camping. Of course, after thinking about your 'glitch', Galaxy, I may have to check whether those li'l critters can be brought home from a camping trip...

Also (last night and) this afternoon (on a more MRR'ing-related topic), I started putting together the Woodland Scenics "Rocky's Tavern" (white metal casting kit). Except (borrowing from somebody else's idea that I read somewhere...) I'm going to have it be the town jail for one of the smaller towns on my (eventually enlarged) layout. I got the first two walls CA'd together okay, but then had a dickens of a problem getting the next two to stick together. Even tried using medium-thick CA, but it didn't w**k as well as the thinner (liquid) CA that I had bought from Hobby Lobby (the five-for-whatever, smaller tubes of CA in a package). Today I got the second pair of walls to glue together, after sanding some grooves down and straightening one of the walls. And I got about all the extra CA off my hands from last night, too. Oops Have all five walls together and curing at home now (on the kitchen table/AKA MRR w**kbench). Still to measure and cut a piece of styrene for the roof, put some cast metal details in place, paint things. Probably later in the week or next weekend to get it 'finished' and post photos. I'll use the cast figure of the "drunk sleeping it off" somewhere else, as the windows are kinda small for any visible interior detailing.

Ulrich - Twenty-two trains daily? Big Smile Talk about a railfan's dream! Thanks for posting the photos, too.

Todd, I think the Germans pronounce Bad Doberman differently than THAT breed of dog. Smile, Wink & Grin You're gonna need a new truck soon, with all the schtuff that you've been hauling around in the past year or so. Can you get yourself scheduled to w**k all the days of next year's Village Yard Sale? Just a thought...Whistling Ah, I see you've already got yourself into hot (or maybe sorta hot) water by asking the "Why?" question in response...Bang HeadBlack Eye

Welcome to the Diner, Thayne, and yeah, that's about (I guess) how THAT phrase got started (though I think it was more of a problem in my grandparents' generation than it has been until lately. Hey, tell us a bit about your layout and/or plans while you're here, please. My treat on your choice of beverage (no, other Diners, I am NOT volunteering to cover everyone's grub and whistle-wetter, thanks! Payday is a few days off yet...). Ya gotta watch out for the top of page here, Thayne, with this bunch of chowhounds. Dinner Would love to see pics of your spray booth (or the other stuff you've built), too.

Ray, I see that Mr. Murphy has (for now) moved from Jeff's place up to yours. While you were under the layout, did you find all those little Kadee coupler springs that go flying off when you're trying to put them back in? Devil Or just a bunch of other little things to scar your knees for life? At least you got the derailing problem fixed (for now...).

NSJoe, good to hear the college choices are looking up for you (or do you think the other colleges will be closer to train tracks? Smile, Wink & Grin Sorry to hear about your team's loss, and rest up that shoulder like your trainer said.

LoneGeep, c'mon into the Diner, and Welcome. Yep, as the others said, there are almost no 'off-topic' topics here, including even MRR-related ones. Think of this place as the online equivalent of a local place where everyone comes in, grabs a soda/coffee/bite to eat, catches up with others on what's going on. This group pretty much will NOT nail you to the wall if you ask a 'newbie' MRR'ing question, nor for you wanting to do things differently than someone else does (unlike what sometimes can happen out in the rest of the online...). Care to have a beverage of your choice on me, and fill us in about your MRR plans and/or layout?

Saw THAT Robby had posted some weathering w**k (locos) in WPF, and Crandall (and other Diners) had some really nice photos in there too (Garry - excellent shots there, and I'd agree with the one comment - when will you be getting your stuff into MR?).

I went ahead and posted my photos of "Big John's" record shop in WPF also, since I don't usually have anything for in there.

Well (almost full to the top of it now...), we have r**n again in Cape G.-land Storm - Oh joy, oh rapture! Bang Head This wet stuff is getting really, REALLY old now.

Think I'll sit at the RC for now. Glad it's not doing the 'liquid sunshine' thing here in Mecklenberg.

Blessings and prayers (including for an end to the Storm),

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Janie, since yer making JIM a RBF...I'll take one too.

JIM: Thanks Pally! Ya know, I built THAT thing so long ago...I'm trying to remember just how I did THAT weathered look. I think I just slapped on some good old Floquil primer gray and followed it with a few doses of somebody's (Floquil?, Poly S?, Testor's?) "weathered white." At the time, I was considering a layout set in the 1970s, so it may be a bit "heavy" on the peeling paint for Tony's 1950s...but like I said, if he's happy with it then it's all good.

Good news! Good news! I finally proved, on paper at least, to my satisfaction THAT I can have a fairly accurate, albeit shorter, impression of the CCP (ex-IC/ICG) Cedar Rapids "A" yard on the future layout. At the other end, I've got a track arrangement I think I can live with for the Cargill plant. I may yet dig through my stack of track diagrams and see if I've got one for THAT plant in real life...might be able to finagle in something a bit closer to life. In-between...uh...not quite "joy and rapture" just yet. At least this time, I didn't end up risking a concussion by repeatedly slamming my head into the desk.

CURT: I'm liking THAT PRR themed panel. I'm thinking about doing THAT same thing, all the way along the fascia rather than on one central panel. But then again, I'm going around the room point to point style.

A question for you-all. As you know, I'm big on the CNW. So, the fascia will be CNW green with CNW yellow track lines. But, for the Chicago Central and Pacific yard...should I keep the CNW colors for consistency sake? OR do the fascia in CCP colors for THAT portion of the layout???

RAY: Thank you for giving me one more reason to (when "substantial completion" has been achieved) to go with some kind of carpet stuff under the layout.

One last thought before I yield the floor and have a seat at the RC... here's a project I started quite some time ago...about a year at least:

It's still not quite done...but getting a lot closer.

Thanks for the compliments on my control panel everyone, I think it looks pretty cool but I can't take credit for thinking it up, both Lee and Todd told me how to do it. I love the way the expierenced modelers help out us newbies without the attitude here.

Greetings from Wintrepeg,

Yes we are back to winter here. Had 2-3" of the white stuff last night and so far it hasn't melted but then why would it with a high today of 28F.  Tonight it is supposed to get down to 20F. They say it will hit 50 tomorrow but I am skeptical.

It was a good day to do RR stuff so I did install a decoder into a N scale RS18 which is a Canadian version of an RS11. I also hooked up the Dynamis DCC I bought. Both are working fine. I think I will like the Dynamis at least for my little N scale empire it will be fine. I have just about finalized the track plan and will be out to buy the door this week.

Well it is getting near Masterpiece Theatre time so I will be signing off for now.

 Hello Fellow Dinners!

Special Welcome to all the New Dinners as well! Welcome

Flo, yes dear and thank you for the Beer

I Love The Company I work for! Big Smile Little background for the new dinners. I was out of work for most of 2010 and started a new job 01-07-11. Small family owned company (but we are growing) and will have 5 stores this month. I was given my store on 02-01-11 and it is doing much better. Sore had been doing around $35,000.00 per month and I am now doing around $42,000.00.

As I posted I was promised a $1000.00 bounces if I hit $50,000 this month. Well I did not quite make it. Whistling

Got a phone call from Berry the owner today and it went like this.

 Mattress Sources, Ken speaking.

Mr Greenwell, Berry here. How did you wind up for the month.

I was close but no cigar Berry, $47,999.69

Ken, tell Valerie what you did.

Hi Valerie, I did $47,999.69 for March

 You did?

 Yes, close but no cigar.

Ken, Berry again, that is the best month that store has ever had! Valerie twisted my arm, so I am given you a $500.00 bounces. Glad you joined our team Ken! Looking forward to a great year from that store. Keep up the good work and we will talk later.

You talk about making my day!

Plus I now have a firm bounces plan now. If the store delivers $45,000 in a month I get $500.00 extra, $50,000 I get $1000.00, $55,000 I get $1500.00 and so on. That is over my normal commission and what Shaun delivers counts as well toward my bounces. (Shaun covers my store on my days off)

Heck, with some luck I might get back into the $50,000.00 range again and get to keep the house. Then build my dream layout. (again for the new dinners)

2 main lines and a branch line dragging coal and gain. 19' X 26' with 32 in turns on the main and 24" turns on the branch line.

Galaxy I think I heard on TV to kill bed bugs if you heat your house to 160 degrees it will kill the Bed Bugs. Might look into it on line.

See you all Monday. Hum, might preorder BLI Q2.

     Ken

Hey guys

Germany Aye? Haven't been their since I was 3 or 4. My father was stationed at Bitburg (i think, it's the one near Trier) for a time in the early 90s. So I did a little growing up there before coming stateside.

Not much going on now. Last day at work went alright (none of the people I have issues with were there). Although I had a fiasco with mowing my parent's lawn. There was no gas in the mower when I pulled it out. I asked my father and he said there was gas in the 3 gas cans he has. 2 were empty and 1 only got the mower to about 1/4. that only got me 30% of the front yard. Had to run to the store (with the mower stuck in the front yard) to fill up a can. Now my car needs the fill-up again.

Talked to one of the guys I went to the Atlanta trainshow with the other day. We both saw an athearn RTR (newest runs) SP SD40T-2 and wound up talking about how we regetted not buying it; and how I missed out on some BN stuff because the group I rode with left early; and got home after the other group. Next time stick with these guys that stayed longer.

Chris, Is it a GP40 or a GP40-2? Your fascia idea is a new one to me. I think it'd look good (probably cause of my team, lol). As for the CCP yard, the red/white and green/yellow might look kind of strange together. That and someone may think it's an MKT layout (kidding). Personally, I'd run a test to be sure it looks good in reality.

Curt, That control panel looks pretty good!

Lone Geep, It's pretty much a thread about anything. Technically it's a "coffee shop" style thread.

Robby, Don't have the latest MR (my subscrition ran out a few months ago) but when I get a chance I'll look it up at a book store.

Garry, Thanks. Haven't reported it yet, but it'll happen when I get a chance.

Well I have to go study for my end-of semester finals tomorrow. That's also when I'll find out what became of the paper the English Professor wanted to re-look over. Hope it's good, and hope I do good with the finals. TTYL

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

I shouldn't have any problems with low blood sugar tonight. My father and I went to Burger King for dinner. He got his usual. Double Whopper with cheese and fries. I got my usual. Steakhouse XT, no tomato. I wanted onion rings with it but they were out so I sett;ed for fries instead. Dr Pepper with a shot of Sprite.

Stereo is cranked up next door. They were out working hard in my parents yard today so maybe they'll crash early for a change. And if a frog had wings it wouldn't bump it's butt!

Evening all.

Quiet night at home tonight. We go back to school tomorrow Crying, so I should probably get a good night's sleep tonight.

Curt, Wayne, and Thayne (and anyone else who I may have missed, my apologies), Welcome to The Diner. It seems that you guys have joined us during my absence.

Jim, I'd say the college search is going well, right about on track (no pun intended) for where I should be now (May of Junior year).
The only college that I know is closer to the tracks is Rutgers (the New Brunswick campus, where the engineering school is). It is about a half mile from the Northeast Corridor, and Lafayette is about a mile from the Lehigh Line. The NEC has much more volume, but the LL is also busy, and has more variety (you get much more variety in freight traffic than you do in Amtrak and New Jersey Transit). As for other schools, I'm not sure.

Chris, great work on that Geep! Thumbs Up

Ken, glad to hear that you are pleased with ecstatic about the new job! Hopefully business will continue to rise even more.

Vincent, good luck with finals!

Well, I gotta be up bright and early tomorrow (GROOOOOOAAAAAANNNNNNNN), so I better head out for tonight. Hopefully I'll be able to stop in before long!

VINCENT: Bitburg? Home of the 36th Tactical Fighter Wing? My Dad was at Spangdahlem, the "neighbor" to Bit back in the early 1960s with the 49th TFW. THAT was back in the days when both wings were flying F-105 fighter/bombers and keeping the commie Ruskies at bay. Also, I think you may be right about the red and white looking kinda odd with the green and yellow. I'll probably just keep it all green/yellow and just attach a CCP herald to help mark their yard (along with having THAT spelled-out on the fascia). The geep is a GP40-1. It's an Athearn GP40-2 with minor body modifications (filling the sight glass on the engineer's side, adding disks to the tops of the fans) and a handful of parts. The CNW got GP-40s from Conrail and did a partial upgrade with some dash-2 features, thus making it a "dash-1." CNW did the w**k at Oelwein, IA in the early 1980s.

Good Morning Gang

That hay fever would not let me catch a good rest last night and I am now up with a big headache. I never had that bad before, just an occasional sneezer. But that was at a time when we had more rain to wash down the pollen. Oh, well ...

Flo, coffee and a breakfast bagel, please.

Ken -a boss like yours is a keeper! Hard to find nowadays. Congrats on the bonus payment, it´ll move you forward on the path of keeping your house - for which I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Vincent, Curt - I am always surprised to see how many folks have a German "heritage" of  some sort. This is Buedingen:

... and this is Bitburg, the famous beer town:

Have a safe day!

Hello All

Decided to step into the Diner and see how the fare was here.  Been hanging out for coffee on one of the other forums for a while.

I started in HO as a kid, and Dad and I worked on a pretty good sized layout. It went on the back burner once I was in college, and about 10 years ago I gave away all the HO stuff I had (except a couple of German pieces). I started playing around w/ a family heirloom O-gauge set a few years back and got bit by the train bug again. After realizing that a 4 X 8 was about as big as I could handle in O-gauge (I have the hardwood floor central right now) and since I was starting to get interested in DCC, I have started getting into N-scale as well, and so that's what led me here.

Welcome Bob!

You´ve found the right place here, friendly folks and good (virtual) food. Quite a number of us are into the iNsane scale. After some experiments in the early days (mid-70´s), I have just rediscovered N scale. I am amazed at the wealth of detail it now has.

Lunchtime in Germany!

Zoe, make that a Barry-sized burger, fries and a RBF to wash it down, please & thanks.

Good morning

A hearty Welcome to the DIner to all who are new recently. Step up to the "Rivet Counter"  {RC} or take a booth elsewhere and have a Coffee, or a Beer, or a Drinks, or a piece of Cake or pie or complete Dinner!

The diner is a place where we can come and share our life experiences; commiserate with down turns; provide support and uplifting; get advice on life's little {and big} struggles; and so on and so forth.

There are a few topics that are kinda taboo here: steer clear of religion and religious preaching, politics and any other "inflamatory subject". You CAN say things like Happy Easter and He is Risen on that day, but to discuss whetehr better to be catholic or baptist or muslim or jewish.NADA, please! A few have even argued inthe past about the word "Christmas" as that holiday draws closer. Watch out for cousin Vinnie as he maintains the law in the diner!

Politics is self explanatory. Steer cleer other than a general grumble about how the gov't is handling things- regardless of parties and no long winded politcal rants please.

Also NO PROFANITY is allowed..you can find words that express your distaste or dislike of somehting without strong offensive words or squigles { #&%&%$^$!!}

If you feel the need to rant { SoapBox } the soapbox is free to use and the floor is yours while you are on it. Its a good Idea to warn us if a rant is coming! It could be about the hobby, spousal problems, those darn kids, work etc. Try to keep rants short and sweet though, if you will. They get boring, reader's eyes gloss over and meaning is lost if long winded.

Remember the "work' is considered a four-letter word here . It is often spelled "w**K so as NOT to offend!

This is the "man cave" of the site where most any topic goes. WOmen are allowed, but few come in.

There are no membership dues, no Hail Marys, no bowing down to the Grand Puba or most high exaulted Ruling magnate, no hazing initiations, or the like. all are equal here. There is a "confessional" open to all who are willing to read yours.

If you comment to a posters post, you can quote them directly or  highlight and copy into your post their words you wish to comment on, or talk directly to them. It helps if you choose some way to make their screen name or real name if they use it in some highlited form : such as : galaxy, Ray, garry, Jeffrey to make it stand out so they can find it if they only skim.

All  food here has no calories so order what you want. the prices are reasonable. {where else can you get a 4 course meal or a burger for one fake dollar?}

If you get eht top of the page posting it is your job to PAY for all the poster's on that pages meals..so warm up your "credit card" and do so. We usually find out we get tops after posting then edit it:

EDIT: I got top honors guys the CC is out and warmed up so eat anything you want on me!

It is always appreciated when you buy. DONT forget to tip the waitresses! a 20% tip is considered standard! If you want good service again!

Well, as for me, I see the psychiatrist today..woopie.

MOH {My Other Half for those who don't know} has a good hourly work week this week...was only getting meager hours lately hardly worth teh gas to go in on. We need some big paychecks to help with saving for the house we are searching to buy so we can have permenant MRRing spaces! We live in a trailer, but with no basement to build in, we really dont have room for my miniature HO scale 3.5 foot x 5.1 foot layout! FOr those who don't know MOH is also into trains and wants a 4x8 N scale magna-rama. When we take vacations it almost always revolves around going to where they run steam trians.

Speaking of vacatiosn this summer I think we wont go anywhere as saving additional cash for the house is more important.

WEll, I hope every one has a great day!

The prayer candle is lit for those who need thoughts and prayers!

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good Morning!! Just coffee please. I’ll try to make this short this morning…….ROFLMAO!!!!! Huh what? Oh, yes, Dark Roast in a T & P mug thank you. Might as well, I stole the name and logo, why not the mug (chuckle).

Well, not all the list is done, but most is. I still have to get the power washer out of hybernation and then comes the washing the back porch, front porch and north side of the house, stains on driveway and…..can’t remember but I think that’s all she wanted done with that. For now.

I did get down in the train room for a couple minutes. I decided to make my own “blasted rock” tunnel portal. So, I whittled out a rough arch from some foam and set it up then, using the pan of water I now keep setting there, I dipped a couple small strips of plaster cloth and started. Today I hope to lay a few more pieces, but those were two key pieces that needed to dry before laying more. I sure like the convenience of the WS Plaster Cloth now more than I thought. No fuss, no muss, and if I just want to use a 1X 2inch piece….I can with no waste. Sales pitch over.

Chris- The structure they are calling the Rock Crusher? Has to be as it’s the only thing that looks like and elevator. Looks good. So, MRR didn’t actually take any pictures? Or they bought his in addition to what they took, or they took 75 pictures.

Lone geep- Welcome.  We also discuss our projects civilly. You will not run into a “greater than thou” modeler in the diner. They do not seem to like us. Not that there aren't any greater than thou people in here, they just want to help you.., not chastise you.

Curt-Clubs work well for many. Truth be known a club would work ok for me in some respects. Even though I freelance on my own, doesn’t mean I couldn’t work on a prototypical railroad. Problem is my lack of knowledge on real railroads and the locos and well, 1:1 scale trains all together. See, for me I,( though I always have and still do) have, what I’ll call a childish fascination with trains, but not a passion for them. Nor a desire to learn all there is about them. What I do like, is Model Railroading. I’ve always wanted this great big layout like I saw in the magazines since I was a teen. I approach it like the other models I have built over the years. I built a couple planes, but I didn’t learn all there was about planes to do it. My approach is realistic to the casual observer. Not necessarily the expert, though I do admire the extremely accurate and prototypical models, they just aren‘t for me. At least now. However, I will admit my desired accuracy level has increased since being in hereHmm. You never know.

New Guys: Just so you know, the preceding is in no way meant to state how I feel any one else should approach the hobby. That is my feeling and my feeling alone. Yours may, and probably will, be different. What I do feel, and seems most in the hobby feel the same way, is there is room in this hobby for us all and no ones approach is wrong. Just different. Please pass the scenic glue.

Thayne- That sounds like a club I could do._ Pictures? You betcha we like pictures!

Ken- Congratulations on the Bonus Plan!! Sales on commission always made me afraid to do it. Uncertainty and all. You obviously got that covered.

HAH! Bedding humor LOVE IT!

Chris- Good looking Geep! Having second thoughts about posting a picture of my project now! Just kiddin.

Galaxy- You were thinking the same as I was. No, not about the Psychiatrist, about time to re explain the diner in a bit more detail. I was just about to post the old explanation I saved from years ago, but yours filled the ticket. Might post the work schedules again, but not right now.

This post is long enough for a Monday morn!

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Morning All,

I am at w**k today. The high is supposed to be 89 but I do not know the temp with humidity. Plans for the RR are to paint the plywood base top dark brown. Probably should of done that before laying track and build the 3 buildings I should get tomorrow (meat packing plant, ice house, and stock yard), and install the DPDT switches on the control panel. After that on to wiring.

Bob, Lone Geep, Thayne- Welcome to the diner. Sorry if I missed anyone.

Ulrich- Thanks for the picture, it brings back memories. We used to eat at a local restaurant on the back side of the curved turrent. I still try to go to German restaurants when I can.

Ken- Congrats on your bonus plan. Sounds like a good company. If you get the Q2 I will be jealous. I just can't justify the cost to MOH.

Everyone ake care.

Ulrich- Thanks for the picture, it brings back memories. We used to eat at a local restaurant on the back side of the curved turrent. I still try to go to German restaurants when I can.

Curt - I have yet to figure out what German food is Smile, Wink & Grin In our little town of 25,000, we have three Greek restaurants, one Croatian place, two Turkish Kebab hangouts, one Argentinian Steak restaurant, 3 "Asian" restaurants and, well, yes, two "German" places, but they serve anything else than what is considered German food. Oh, I forgot to mention one Pizza place. The next McDumb is about 8 miles down the main road, no Burger King, no Kentucky Fried Chicken - you´ll have to go all the way to Hamburg to find those. Down south you´ll find more traditional food, but not in our region.
