Evening All,

Flo I would love a cup of Java and a piece of blueberry pie.

Another sizziling day. We are under a severe thunderstorm watch for 5 more minutes-still no rain. I moved all the stuff from under the train board. I strung the 2 main busses under the layout also today and broke out the Zephyr command station and placed it in it's place. I really am starting to get excited about being able to run trains at home.

YGW- Glad you are feeling better. Remember drink plenty of fluids.

Ulrich- Glad you finally got a decent night's rest. Actually I slept thru my alarm this morning which is something I never do. I'm glad I was not w**ing today.

Everyone take care.

Just stopped in to say hello...

Went to the LHS today and spent $200. Picked up an Athearn RTR SD40 (Southern Pacific 7342) while I was there. Pics of the progress are in the WPF thread. It's nice to be back(again...) into model railroading!

Got my mid-size mobile home kit today that I ordered from NuComp Miniatures (out of business). It came in a small box packed in a bigger box that could easily hold four or five baseballs and was secured with enough tape that I was thinking about sending it to Mythbusters to stick some C4 on it. It definitely wasn't going to fall out of the box. Looking at the little bag of parts I'm reminded of what a pain in the butt the Robert's mobile home (City Classics) was to build. It would be simple enough for you folks who have feeling in your hands and more so if your hands don't shake. I have both problems so it's going to take me a little while to put this plastic and wood kit together. I wonder what the age limit is on this. My mental aptitude tests all indicate the aptitude of a 14 year old, so heck, I just do qualify for Kadee couplers. Too bad NuComp Miniatures is gone. Their website is still up but they're not taking orders. I saw things there I wouldn't mind having.

The office trailer kit: H1001

Trailer kit w/porch: H1002

Basic 70's trailer kit: H1006

Iced coffee, please.

Ordered lumber and a few sections of tin for the main barn roof today. Forgot to purchase nails...oops! The roofers are scheduled to be here Monday afternoon.

Raced to tarp over the roofless shed out back, but had to give Mother Nature another round as she hit us with a little thunder-boomer before I could finish. Not sure if the floor in that structure can be saved or not. Heading back out now to try to get the rest of the tarps nailed in place. The sarcoidosis & the treatments has me really beat today.

OK John Boy, you owe me! Watched the link you posted and it was great! Big Smile Down side was I had cut down some trees in the backyard and no longer feel like dragging them out! I will send you my address so you can drag them out! Whistling

See you all Friday before I go to work, unless I am dragging trees out of the back yard! Thanks John Boy! Big Smile

Morning CudaKen,  and Crew

Funny thing Ken, when you were posting this I was digging out a tree at the back corner of my Son's house as we have to put in an "Egreess window" to make it legal to rent. He and I are not going to put in the window, we have that hired out. But I was removing sprinklers and this tree from that area.

Hope you have a $5000.00 day today

Wednesday here was a beautiful day here in Spokane. The warmest day since mid-October, but yesterday and today have cooled right down again.  But still will finish that outside job.

Glad some of you enjoyed that video. I love it for many reasons, nostalgia, background, passenger service, inside shots of the FP units and the winter railroad scenes of the Canadian Rockies which I love.

Well, better get back to some w**k jobs here as the days just seem to be flying by. We arrived last Sat. and have to leave on Monday.  Don't know where the time has gone.  Haven't had a chance yet to visit Jim at Sunset junction yet, will try to squeeze that in before leaving.

My goodness Bill T, must have been up waiting for Friday the 13th as he was the first to post today.

As Jerry and Larry would say,  "you all have a good-un"  Ya hear.

Johnboy out........................................ and back to the w**king vacation.

Hey all

I have been out Ick! for the last few days, one with the toilet god. Do I want any thing ? No thanks Flo, stomach still a bit uneasy. Anyway only have a minute and then I must be getting back to w**k. Some good news on the ob front. Met with former emplyeer again to review status . I had informed him last Monday of MOH condition, didnt want to make the jump and then have them find out and let me go due to increase in insurance, having to take off at times to help her etc... They understand, will not be a problem. Now I need to turn in my resignation and change rail lines. Gotta go, will touch base tonight or sometime tomorrow.

Good morning. It's 75° and cloudy. The high will be around 84 and there's a 40% chance of thunderstorms.

We got some rain last night. A whole 0.01". It's so dry here that I wouldn't be at all surprised at the sight of a bunch of mud wasps trying to open a bottle of water. I saw one yesterday collecting the mud from a puddle of spilled beer! Now that's desperation! Maybe later today I'll see if I can find my old body working tools and knock the dents out of the side of the van. Even then there will probably be a crease left. Oh well, it could have been worse. I could have continued straight into the truck and come home with a Chevrolet hood ornament. 1981 3/4 ton van vs 2010 Chevy supercab pickup. Can you say 'tissue paper'? Bad thing right now is I can't remember where I put those body working tools. It's been almost twenty years since I used them last. Guess I'll start by looking in the old bunk house.

Ok. starving bloodwork is over!

Now you all can have a GREAT day!

The Kia got it's a/c-heat baffle motor fixed, and the new door seals in,a nd the window guy was by and said the actual windshield seal isn't broken, "just the trim piece came off". He supposedly fixed it back into place with his fancy tools and gadgets.  Hmm. We have had a whistling sound over on that side for a   few days before the bloody windshield gasket came off!! It HAD BETTER be sealed, or if it leaks and fries something electronic I WON'T BE A HAPPY CAMPER!

We looked at the Kia FOrte while waiting for it to be serviced and test drove it. we were impressed, but as I told the dealer people I got one Kia already that has had a LOT of major  "under warrantee" items fixed that I'm not so sure YET I would buy ANOTHER KIA!

Dunno. Maybe I still a bit grumpy form starvation.

WEll,

Offf to do laundry...another job that doesn't leave me alone long....

Mornin'!

Humph!  What's going on in here?  Everyone seems to be super grumpy today....  and the one's who are always grumpy (like me) are even worse than normal....  Friday the what?  Oh Lord! and I have a doctor's Appointment this afternoon........... Sigh  Zoe, I need a couple Bavarian Creme filled donuts and a pot of dark roast coffee.  Huh?  I don't care what mug you use... Oh, use this one today!

Ulrich, that is great news from your mom!  Sounds like she is recovering nicely, and lucky you getting to ride the train at half price even.

Galaxy, the house of your dreams will come along.  Probably right after you move into the one you end up buying....Whistling

Hmmm.  There were several others I was going to comment to, but I got interrupted by a phone call about the upcoming dinner and have now fogotten what i was going to say.  Getting old I think?

As an old neighbor of mine when I lived in the Southern Tier of NY (He was both Polish and a NYS Trooper...) back when certain kinds of jokes were popular, which I would always tell him, would say, "Drive Carefully!"  Then he would grin from ear to ear....

Have a great (and safe) Friday the 13th.

Sir Madog

Galaxy - take your time! Although it is a buyer´s market these day, there don´t seem to be "good" houses available. I am sure, though, the right one will come up soon! Keeping my fingers crossed!

I fear that while the "right one will come along" it will "come along" in a changed market and we won't be able to afford it!!!!

Have a *grumpy* day

Hi Guys,

I just woke uo from a mid-day nap - refreshing. I must be getting old Whistling

We were able to phone my Mom this morning, which is a good sign. She has started to kvetch about the bad food they serve - yet another good sign. My dad and I will go to see here tomorrow. Again, we will take the train. The route takes us over this little bridge, crossing the Kiel Canal high up:

We will be riding in this:

As an old age, handicapped person, my father and one person accompanying him pay only half fare, that beats auto costs (and is more fun, too!)

Barry - is that you on that picture?

Ken - ouch!. I hope your pain disappears soon. Watch your kidneys!

I don’t need any more rolling stock, I don’t need any more rolling stock, I don’t need any more rolling stock, I don’t need any more rolling stock…  I’ll be reciting that until I see something really cool that I have to have!

I am reciting that montra right now. Con-cor called the other day wanting to process my pre-order from November for their new "shorty" passenger cars in the B&O colors that will look SO cool behind my matched paint scheme FTA-B set {whether they would have been conisted that way or not in real life}.

I asked if they could call back in 2 weeks, which the gentleman noted on my account.

But in November I was financially able to buy them! The picture has changed a WHOLE LOT since then. Now I need repairs {or more presicely a new replacement complete firing assemblage on the furnace- IF one can be found without replacing hte whole durn furnace-which for a trailer is more expensive because the down draft furnaces, nto the more common updraft furnaces} to the furnace {don't know the $$$ yet}, and we need to have the trailer skirting re-done {$1k} and we had some auto repair bills {$2200) AND on TOp of all that, we are looking to buy a house so scrimping where we can, while MOH's hours at work jave been cut back.

So I think in two weeks, no matter how much  "until I see something really cool that I have to have!"    I gotta have them, I think I shall have to pass on them as we really can't afford them now. Adding to the CC bill right now for trains is just NOT in the cards!

Have a *grumpy* day

{at least until bloodwork is over and I get some food/drink in me}

Good Morning!! Coffee and one of them breakfast burritos please. Thank you.

Why am I feeling grumpy? Like a curse or something.

Showers and thunderstorms likely. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 77. Nothing Severe is expected. Yet.

Ken- Yep, that's what I thought. Fogger is a type of system or design as opposed to one of those “nicknames” for Nitrous. It’s been awhile since I really messed with hot rodding so I’m rather scattered on stuff. I wasn’t really into that anyway. But I did have one friend who was a bottle baby. Had a ’77 T/A. 400, red, real wires and never seen rain. The lettering had been removed and replaced with gold leaf (not the chicken of course) Pretty car. Ran surprisingly well. Not real challenging for even a 383 but had his share of surprised people.

Barry- You have a guy who jumps out of Port Dover with a machete too? Talk about a small world.

Well Bill reminded me it’s Friday the 13th. I suppose I’ll go do something somewhat dangerous today. I should be pretty safe considering I’d be expecting it. Always works that way. It’s those unexpected ones that really fling the hurtins.

Gotta mow some more at Mom’s and build the other shed door. Opened it up and the bottom fell out of it too. I figure I can do that if it rains. Pole barn has electricity so I can work in there.

Well, there weren’t to much dew last night so I think I’ll head out now and get a jump start on the yard in case it does rain. They have been wrong all week, and I’m not complaining, but if you call for rain long enough you’ll eventually be right.

Ya’ll have a Great Day!!!

Morning, all. Flo, I'll have three creme-filled doughnuts with maple syrup, a quarter-pound of bacn (not too crispy, please) and big glass of chocolate milk, please. After 22 years of marriage, I've embraced the concept of 'comfort food.'

Jeffrey, sorry to hear about your van. That really stinks. Though I must say that for the price you paid for gas, folks in my neck of the woods would be lining up to buy it! If I find it as low as even $4.09 a gallon, I fill up. It's killing our budget.

Looks like we won't be selling our house after all. Between the money we'd have to put into it just to make ot showable, the price we'd expect to get for it, and realtor's fees, we'd walk away with just about exactly the same amount of cash as we initially put down on our first house 20 years ago. whoopee. So at least the layout is safe.

And Lee, you can't say you don't need any more rolling stock. You always need more rolling stock!

Good morning,

Getting ready for my road trip..

Curt I sent you an email this morning.

Galaxy keep looking, with this economy whatever you buy you’ll need to like it for a few years.

Came home and cut the grass, just finished up and the rain came, and it came really hard!  The new roof over the computer room leaked, so I emailed the contractor and he is coming out first thing tomorrow to see what happened.  I think it’s the flashing along the north side of the roof.

Planning my trip so I get into Utica, MI early enough to visit Great Lakes Hobby, and then check into the hotel room.

I don’t need any more rolling stock, I don’t need any more rolling stock, I don’t need any more rolling stock, I don’t need any more rolling stock…  I’ll be reciting that until I see something really cool that I have to have!

Morning all,

*grump*   *AHem* NOTHING FOR ME, Please. Waitress *snap*  And Serve it on the silver patter PLEASE!

Well we have 3 houses to look at next week. Each one has features we don't like or care for, but SOME thing can be changed.

Lately a lot of houses we have looked at or the RE agent has sent are :

1} in a 100 or 500 yr flood plain- we just had a "500 yr" flood in 2006, and FEMA now requires 100 yr flood plain insurance for the ares flooded in 2006, or areas that could have further flooded in 2006.

2} sump pumps in basements- ground water tables may be high, but if you loose power, your pump goes out- would have to get generator.

3} Have *gasp* ASBESTOS wrapped pipes- a no-go with my asthma and high cost of remediation

4} built on a slab- which means no basment to build layouts in!

5} have Fuses STILL for electrical, which means most like electrical upgrade IF not a rewiring job complete!

6} is techically not in a flood plain..but only because it is PROTECTED BY A DIKE- which held in 2006, but could fail anytime.

SO we prefer NOT to have those issues!

Any house that says things like: new furnace '06, new h2o heater '06, new carpet '06 automatically tells us it flooded in '06- DUH! We had a "500 yr" flood then.

We know it may take time. We also looked for first time buyers matching funds for houses, but nothing now...4 years ago they couldn't give away enough! Now all dried up. WE thought it might help boost up a notch on the price range we can afford, but no such luck! Sucks!

WEll I have starving blood work today at 10:30 and have to drive MOH to work to keep Caravan to get there...as KIA still in shop. I'm grouchy right now cuz I can't even have a coffee!!!! ANd I have a sour stomach with nothing but AM meds in it!

You all have a grumpy day too!

Good Morning,

it is just 5.45 am and I am up, but I have slept through for the first time in years! Feels good!

Flo, coffee and a bowl of cereal, Alpen Muesli if you have, please & thanks.

If I remember correctly, there are about 60 million people of German heritage living in the US. It must have been the first Germans who brought the love of kvetching to the US - back in 1683, when they set off from Krefeld to join their British brethren in the colonies.

Good Evening,

Johnboy, thanks for posting that video link! I've been to Revelstoke several times as we used to have a dealer store there. The CPR doesn't stop there anymore and most of the yard tracks have been torn up. There is a really good RR museum though, complete with a restored CP Mikado inside. It is one of the last ones built for the CP in about 1949.  In winter the mountains look much the same but there hasn't been as much snow in the last few years..

After supper I went out to visit a friend who is in a nursing home. We graduated from Uni together and shared the same accomodation for a couple of years while there. He has MS and now colon cancer(again). We did have a good visit and I'll go back out to see him soon. It is tough to see him like that as he always had so much energy.

I stopped at the LHS as it is on the way to the nursing home. I picked up an old BMan heavyweight combine in CN that was on consignment. It will need new trucks and MT couplers but I was surprised to see it. Wish BMan would do them again. It must be fairly old as it was made in Hong Kong and originally had lighting.

Many years ago I worked as a sales rep for Sunoco so I do have some understanding as to how gas pricing works. Basically it is now traded as a commodity so price is determined by supply and demand. As supply really can't be easily increased the only way prices will come down is to reduce demand and that won't happen as China and India are now big consumers of oil.  I think Ray has the right idea. While my Volvo isn't bad on gas the next vehicle will have to be a lot better. I'm thinking of a VW diesel. I want to seeng  at least 40mpg on the highway and 30 in the city. Right now I'm getting low 20s in town and low '30s on the highway to the US gallon. I'm guessing a little as I still use Imperial gallons when calculat

Well time for a coffee Chloe and an order of raisin toast please.

Hi All,

Flo I would like a unsweetened ice tea please, and a slice of peach pie.

Well it was hot as hades here today. Even though it was actually a couple of degrees cooler than yesterday with the humidity there was a heat index of 100. We may get some rain this weekend, I will believe it when I see it.

Ulrich- I believe I read your post correctly about Americans complaining. You are dead on. I hate to say it but we have pretty much turned into a country of whiners and everything is someone elses fault. SoapBox OK I am done venting.

Ken- I sent you a response.

Jeff- Glad you came into some money today.

I would love to post a picture but the station that I am at today for some reason will not let my air card connect (has always been that way).

Well I will let everybody go. Have a good evening.

Well I sold my light bar this morning. $200 cash in my hand! I went to town and deposited it in the bank. I then went to one the oil change places (not the one I went to last time where they put in 10-40). I had my own and filter with me along with a bottle of Motor Honey. Oil change cost $17.22. I then got a new turn signal flasher as the old one had bitten the dust that morning and wouldn't work unless I slapped it around. I also checked on the price of a new windshield wiper motor. The old one still works most of the time but has a habit of stopping at some of the most inopportune times. Just a light push on one of the wipers will get it going again. Paid $38 for 9.557 gallons of regular unleaded gas. Highway robbery if you ask me. There was a bit of drama at the gas station. As I was pulling up toward the pumps some sorry sorry son of a goat in a big super size super cab type pickup cut in ahead of me and I had to swerve to keep from piling into him. In so doing I side swiped the concrete island and put a five foot crease down the lower part of the drivers side of my van just ahead of the rear wheel. I was about to climb out and give the jerk a piece of my mind and maybe a piece of a walking stick as well. He looked up and saw what was going on and bugged out. If you can't see the lower half of me the upper half can look very intimidating when I'm ticked off and downright scary when I'm mad, and I was mad then. I wasn't able to get his plate number. Thinking back on it I should have just kept going forward. I would have caved the side of his truck in like a paper bag. I hit the concrete island with enough force to lift the side of the van about four inches and had to back up to get off it.
