Simon, are you trying to make me Embarrassed? You have gone way out of your way to befriend me! If it was not for you, I be DC again. (Simon found a fault wiring problem).

Far as helping one in need, I am a firm believer in the saying "What goes around comes around" so I am be just a little selfish. I am all so doing it to pay back a friend. Guess it was around 10 years ago and I was down on my luck again around Christmas. A friend from a Charger site name Black Knight (Dax) knew I was in bad shape. He sent me $350.00 so my family could have a Christmas! It was the most generous thing anyone had ever done for my self and family!

I cannot pay Dax back, he was 35 and a Body Builder but had a bad heart.Crying I know Dax and I will finally meet and get to take that ride together. Thinking of you Buddy, Cheers Beer

Simon .... Impressive locomotive fleet! .... Nice layout, too.

Jeff ... Scenery is looking great!

Ken ... "Jake" jumped into the lake for a swim. .... I'm hearing remarks about getting a new mattress set. Perhaps, one of those expensive ones. I'm not pushing for it while our budget digests other purchases.

Rob ... Sounds like a lot of work!... I hear you about the layout work being interrupted. I had a lot of plans for the fist 4 months of this year, and I had too many interruptions.

Time for ice cream from SImon's Ice Cream Parlor. ....mmmm mmmm good.

Sorry about the state of the layout Ken!  The boys set you a switching puzzle to get it all back in order.   My customer situation is sorted out.  I have the use of this excellent remote tech support software suite that lets me take control of their PC and fix all the errors that they made.  I could do the same to get you PR3 running if you wanted, though would rather do that tomorrow if I can get over.

BTW, since you call me such a good friend, let me just say that there is a lot that can be learned from a generous soul like you.   There are not many folk on this planet, who down on their own luck like you have been, think so much about helping others.

 Afternoon Folks!

Flo, Big Boy Sub, tender of fries and a Beer please.

Today I have not done diddle. Work up around 6:30 AM because the sun woke me up in the family room. Went to the bedroom and crawled into my King Sizes Kingsdown Mattress, oh what a feeling. Got up at 9:30 was still a little tired but not as much as normal.

Picked up the Daytona It started right up at Bob's shop, got it warm and it started at the bank, got gas (funny thing I was overjoyed paying $3.85 per gallon) and it started. So maybe it could have been just lose battery clamps?  Sure I will find out at 8:00 PM 20 miles from home after working a 11 hour day!

Gary Should I started a Save Jake The Snake Program! Big Smile Still think it could look pretty neat. Big Smile Are you looking  to buy a Mattress? Yes, I can get you a great deal on a mattress.

Train Front Simon and the Lad's Crisp and Andrew dropped by to run the layout. They had to leave earlier than they wanted, Simon had to help one of his customers that messed up there software. Now have trains and mixed freight all over the layout, boys mixed it up some for me. I get in a rut and run the same engines and trains a lot. Simon all so became a Mail Box Buddy while he was here. Thank You Simon! You are one of the best friends I have ever had!

Well, that is it for me tonight. See you all Thursday!

Hi Flo, could I please have a donut with a lemonade. Last night, I participated in my first real operating session! I was an engineer and I got "lost" once because I forgot the name of the yard I needed to go to so I couldn't get clearance from the dispatcherBang Head. The dispatcher warned the engineer of a through freight to watch for a train that looked lost. After that, it went smoothly.

Good Afternoon,

I’m 3 days behind on posts…

Jeff, if you want some rain run up here and help yourself, we have had maybe one day/week without rain.  Looks like this Friday will be our one day.  My foot prints fill with water when I raise my foot.

Curt: http://cgi.ebay.com/PENNSYLVANIA-RAILROAD-6-8-6-S-2-LOCOMOTIVE-HO-BRASS-GEM-/260772711772

Galaxy; my new freezer has a light, so we can scratch #18. LOL! Oh and I refuse to buy Blue-Ray.  I would need to buy a new TV, a new DVD player, and then new DVD’s.  Nope not going to do it.  Besides 3D is a trick on your mind.

Chris,  Don’t forget Smuckers in Orrville, OH (PRR) or Cain’s Potato Chips in Bowling Green, OH (TOC).

The right number of rolling stock is over 300.  Since I have about 300 and can’t stop buying I must not have enough….

Galaxy, I have AT&T internet.  When I saw they were offering a low rate if you signed up for 12 months of service I would call and tell them I would like to sign up for 12 months at that price.  Every year I checked to see what the special was.  After doing this for 7 years they finally offered me a lifetime price of $30/month for 5MB DSL.

Mill gondolas could also remove the ends and allow tanks and other military vehicles to roll on and roll off.  The ends can be placed throughout the car making the cargo area larger or smaller depending on what the mill needed to ship.

Heartland Division CB&Q

Simon .... That's a classic photo.. A few years ago, I rode the high speed train from London to York. I think that was on the old route to Scotland where the Flying Scotsman traveled. The museum at York had some great old trains including the Mallard.

I have never been to the York museum, it is on the list of things to do when we next head over to visit the homeland.

The Mallard lives and breaths on my layout

Good morning. It's 70° and sunny. The high will be 82° and it will be mostly cloudy and more humid.

Yesterday I got more work done on the bushes and trees on the northwest corner of the layout. Today I'll try to get some work done on the west side of the main part. Here are some photos of the progress made.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I'll have a Breakfast Bagel w/ Cheese and a pot of dark roast coffee this morning.

I think I have everything done except to pack items for the Scholarship Dinner tonight.  So I'm just going to relax a bit (until I remember something not finished....) this morning.

Nice E units being posted guys!

Currently 63°F under cloudy skies here in the Finger Lakes.  High of 67 this afternoon and some liquid sunshine predicted.

Have a great day!

You asked for it.

Another member here on the forum, Grizlump, lives not too far away in Central Illinois and he was describing his trip on the Pioneer Z just before it was withdrawn from service.  I would have loved to have been here in the US for the heyday of  passenger travel.  Instead I was in the UK watching the very end of fast steam travel at the tail end of great trains like The Flying Scotsman.

Morning, all. I'll take a Mountain Dew and six Extra-Strength Tylenol, please. This broken toe of mine hurts like the dickens, and there's nothing that can be done for it other than to just wait for it to start healing. It's turned colors that I didn't know existed.

I'm sitting here at w**k and, as expected, I have almost no w**k to do. Nothing makes the w**kday seem to last longer than not having stuff to do to fill it up. Sigh Those who think the economy's getting better should spend a week or two in the construction industry - not a lot of folks out there wanting new buildings designed for them these days.

Well, guess I'll just look forward to lunch, and dream about what I can do in the basement tonight...

Simon ... I'm glad you visited the dner. Feel free to visit gain soon. I like you website. The ice cream parlor photo with Pioneer Zephyr is great. Feel free to post it here.

I grew up next to the Burlington main line west of Chicago, and I often saw the E5's in action along with many other CB&Q E units. In fact, I remember the shovel noses, too, when we moved there. I was very young but already liked trains.

I did ride behind E5's on the Twin City Zephyr a few times. Here is the TCZ moving at perhaps 90 mph.

Jeff and Vincent ... The mill gons commonly hauled steel mill products, and I suspect that is why they are called that. I don't think that is an official equipment type name, however. I think it just means a gondola of 50' or more in length. I use them for hauling steel from my steel mill. Some of mine are covered gons, but most are open top. I use the shorter, 40's gons for scrap metal.

Packer

Probably should have phrased it better. What's the difference between a mill gondola and a gondola; or what makes a gondola a "mill" gondola.

It could be hard to tell on some models but a mill gondola has end that can be dropped so it can haul loads longer than itself, such as rods from a steel mill.

Morning all, just popped in to say hello and could not resist responding to the images of the Q E6.  I love the stainless Burlington E units.

There are a bunch of Youtube shots of the Silver Pilot at Union, here is a nice one in profile along with sound effects!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KXZZJjztcu0  just beautiful.

I was up in Chicago last week for my son's 8th grade trip and we spent some time at the Museum of Science and Industry.  I could not resist yet another photo of one of the great ancestors of the E units

and finally there is a recently restored Burlington E8 at the St. Louis Museum of Transportation.  It does not run, but they did a great job on the cosmetic restoration.  I found this Youtube with some nice shots of it.  Jump about half way through.

Hey Ken, I may  not know squat about mattress', but I do know a bit about sleep, having sold Polysomnography systems for years.  What you are referring to is REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep.  The deep dream state part of sleep when our eyes flick from side to side as we dream about model trains and our ever growing empires!

Good morning..... Oatmeal & OJ, please.

Todd..... I donet tipe gud eitherr ...... My rate is 10 typos per minute.

Ken ... The snake log will most likely be cut up but that's a neat idea. ... Any super deals on mattresses this weak? .... Keep saving the $'s.

Ulrich .... It's remarkable Germany will not allow coal for electricity.  I suppose DB has no coal unit trains.( Clever me. I figured that out.  Huh?  )  Much of Kentucky's economy depends on coal mining. The power plant receives western coal with Union Pacifc unit trains to blend with Kentucky coal to meet emmision requirements. So, our power bills are higher than otherwise would be the case.

Curt .... You mentioned the slanted noses on the E6's. There still are 3 E6's which have survived. One is a Louisville and Nashville E6, and it is located in the Kentucky Railroad Museum. The other 2 are a Rock Island E6 and an Atlantic Coast Line E6.

Also, still preserved is a Burlington E5. The surviving stainless steel E5 is at Illinois Railway Museum, and it still can operate.

Here is my E5.......

Hi

ATTABOY- sounds as if she is a vengeful pest.

Yes by all means keep an eye on her on moving day...just be aware that her moving day may be the day you are away at work a nd she will still clean you out! She may lead you to believe that she will move June whatever, but could duck out early with all your stuff!

At the moment go around and take pics of the house as it is now, that way if you wnat to file a lawsuit if she cleans you out, you have pics to establish you DID have "X" item.

Take all your valuables {stocks, bond papers, CC sitting in a drawer, etc} and stash them somewhere else so she can't "accidentally" take them and use them to screw you later.

Overall, expect to loose everything, and be happy wiht what remains...even if it isonly a rotten potato and a bent spoon.

One guy I know said to his wife {when she declared she wanted a divorce}: I will take 2 weeks paycheck out of the bank, my clothes, my family's photo album and leave. Everyhting else I will sign over to you. I will sign off on hte house, I will sing off on my life insurances so you can cash them in, I will sign BOTH cars over to you, ALl the money in investments are yours, all the money in the bank is yours, but UNDERSTAND THIS: I will pay no alimony or child support or anyhting. Ever. I figure you have close to $1 million dollars, that should pay for everything. If you wnat to fight it, you will only get half of it, and I will insist the house get sold to settle halvsies with you.. ANd he packed his clothes, took hte photo album and called a buddy to take him to the bank and a cheap motel and off he went. He was 52 when he did this. and she got everything, but no alimony or child support since 100% of everything save his 2 weeks of paychecks went to her.

Just a story to tell.

It's sad when people break up and can't do it amincably.

later all

Hello all

Another quiet night collecting photons. I did have to get up at 11AM to help the other operator turn on a new receiver, but managed to get some sleep after that.

Ray - I did notice the twin stacks and the high hood, plus it seemed to idle a little too smooth for an Alco:) Guess I was just too excited to see an RS-3. She's a beauty!

Ran the N-gauge on the desk today after I had to get up today during some potentially stressful phone calls. Running trains always relaxes me. Have to remember to do that more often.

 Evening Fellow Dinners!

Thank you Flo, you know the way to my heart don't you! Beer

Work Front While it was not a busy last two days, I am pretty pleased with them, today I finished the day with $1988.00. Just wished I did not miss the other deal yesterday. All so made a extra $60.00 on cash spiffs (paid in cash) so that helps. It will go straight into the savings.

Savings While I have not saved a lot, it feels good to have a safety net to fall back on. I started saving change on 2-18-11 (when I got the 1926 Buffalo Nickel in change) and now have $742.45 in change) I have all so found $30.00 in coins that are worth more in faces value. I hope to have saved around $2500.00 before Christmas. Not that I would spend that much for gifts. But I am all wise broke during the Holidays. Last Christmas I only had $12.00 to spend on the wife and $10.00 on my daughter. Talk about feeling lower than snake poop. Sigh

Gary Save the snake log! Some wood working it would look pretty neat! Be a real boat stopper.

Curt Comfort exchange is a term used when sales person does not do there job and sales the customer what they want, and not educate the customer so they know what they need! In other words they hate there mattress and want a different one. It is way easier to sell them what they want.

Flo SoapBox Please! The myth that a Firm Mattress is good for your back is just that a Myth! It got started because people could not tell the differences between a soft mattress and a worn out mattress! Anything that is worn out no longer works right, so your back hurts!

People all so confuses Support with HARD. It not the same thing.

Hard mattress causes Tossing And Turning! Every time you roll over at night, you come out of Rim Sleep. That is the stage of sleep when the body heals it self.

If anyone would like a full blown expiation let me know. I don't want to take a hour to type the details if no one really cares. I type real slow! Whistling Think I am up to 14 words per minute.

Mail Box Helpers You know who you are! Big Smile The package is taking shape. I am starting to feel like Old Saint Nick and you guys are my helpers! I could not have pulled this off with out your help! Thank you one and all for the help and the coming help! There sure are some great folks here at the dinner!

Best spirits I have been in weeks, and it not just the Beer!

 See you all Wednesday!
