Mornin'.... uh... Afternoon everyone!

Zoe is it too late to get breakfast?  All day, everyday....  Great!  I'll have a breakfast muffin w/ cheese a big glass of OJ, and lots of dark roast coffee in a FDGLK Mug.  Thank you!

Today is packing day for tomorrows meet.  Still have to pick up some frames at the $ store for the thank you certificates.

[edit]  Hey Fergie!  Gonna work on the MESS™ eh?  We haven't had much this year in the way of snow yet....  Now not too far from here they have had their several feet of white stuff for the year even before 1/1/11.  Have fun with the decoders!

Well this has been sitting unfinished on my desktop for 2 hours now....  Guess i should post it!

Later!

Afternoon,

Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts going out for me for Monday's surgery! I will need them ON Monday too! Though, if I post anything after, I will not be held responsible for anything I say, do or think when recovering from anestesia! Whistling

Went and did a bunch of errands including picking up my repaired watch, and going to Bed Bath and Beyond to turn in a coupon and get my discount on a mattress cover we bought the other day. SHHHHH!!!! if you didn't know this secret about them.....1} if you forgot to bring your mail coupon in with you, return later or a day or two later with it and they will give you the credit towards your purchase anyway, and 2} Even if the coupon has expired, they will take it, so don't throw them in the recycle just cause they are a few days old and 3} if you make a purchase, and your mail coupon shows up a day or three later, see #1!!   SHHHHH! though and tell the Other Half so they know too!!! A 20% off coupon there is nothing to sneeze at sometimes.

SO, what else is new? Dunno.

The US Postmaster called me as we called to report a shredding of mail received. My {small} local PO had stamped it "received damaged" but it was a credit card statement and someone could have looked at the CC number, though I could not see it through the shredding anyway. I might just call and cancel that card {again-it was the one that was comprimised last year} and have a new one re-issued just to be safe. I received another statement form the same CC co last year mangled. MOH works part-part time for a small CO. that is 45 mins. away and they mail out the paychecks from PayChex {I'm sure a registered TM} and we have had 3 that came 1}shredded, 2} torn in half, or 3}muddied-stepped on-and 6 weeks late. The PM at the PO I talked to said 5 pieces of mail came in shredded today alone to their small office. AS I told the PM who I talked to...no wonder the USPS is falling out of favor if they can't deliver mail whole and not shredded, mangled or 6 weeks late!!!!  I don't mind junk mail getting amngled, but CC statements and Paychecks...important stuff like that should come through clean as a whistle. But not the junk mail! They take "extra care" with it must be! I'm sure its those wonderful big expensive sorting routing machines {some of which are locally built here by Lockheed Martin} which are mangling our mail. SO much for better, faster service!! Whew! that turned into a SoapBox

WEll, I wrote a book so I shall sign off here.

Lee retired? Ha!

G- I haven't replied in the positive, but you can be sure that whether I mention it or not, you are in my prayers for this surgery, (or any procedure in the future) to be safe and successful. I hope this one works to give you some relief.

Larry- I see the two lost sheep are more than just a couple of boxcars. They have sentimental value as well. I hope they show up soon.

Attorney's visit went well. Gave me some advice on pricing the house to sell. He does some title work and stuff so he has a good idea of the price ranges that are moving and those that are not. Sounds like we should start closer to the original accepting price. That will not be much lower anyway. Besides, it doesn't appear Mom will need it to live in a retiremnt community anymore.

Afterthought; Ray, does the MAC have a ketboard that makes it easier to type without mistakes? If so, I may be inclined to make a swityh swotj swtich .........(sigh) SWITCH!

Jeff - good catch on the bulged can though I doubt that's the recommended way to stir shellac. Coulda been messy.

I quite agree. I'm used to shaking up latex paints. You can shake them until the cows come home and it won't have any effect except to to make sure they are mixed.

I set off for my doctors appointment at 7:45 this morning. I cheated a little bit. I parked my van at my parents house and grabbed my mother's car. It gets better mileage. Soon after I turned out onto hwy 171 south I came around a curve and saw a long line of fire trucks lined up along the far shoulder of the northbound lanes. I only got a glimpse of the house that HAD been there. A large 2 story place. Now it's all on the ground in a big pile of smoke blackened bricks and burned and melted metal. I went on to DeRidder to keep my appointment and got all that wrapped up near noon. On the way back I stopped at the New Llano post office to send off a package then stopped at the bank to make a deposit then went on to the hospital here to get a PSA test done. That was near 1:45 when all that was done. I went back past the fire scene and saw one of Sundown's (the dept I work for) trucks still there so I stopped to talk to the chief and asst chief for a bit. They had been there since just after 3 am! They were just wrapping up putting out the last of the hot spots. Our motto is "We don't leave until the fire is OUT!". That means we don't even leave an ember burning if we can help it. I finally got back a little after 2:30 and joined my parents for tacos. Oh, and the result for the visit to the docs office? My prostate health is much better than it was a year ago. Nuff said about that. I have another doctors appointment Monday in Leesville for a general physical and routine lab work.

 Evening Folks

Flo, Beer and some peanuts please.

On the Home Front. Finally installed a new front door knob set today. Our old one besides being a pain to unlock became total unsafe. It was a pain to unlock from the inside by twisting the little knob in the center. Sue sometimes could not get the door open, in case of a fire she might not be able to get the Dogs out! Big Smile

Old one was the kind where you could not see the screws that hold the 2 half's together. Watched a few videos on U Tube on how to take it off, no go. It was staying! Being a knuckle drag-er at heart, I broke out the 2 pound dead shot hammer. It gave in after a few wackes and it gave in!Big Smile

Problems where still not over, new bolt was around 1/4 longer than the old one so I had to chisel out the door a little. But it is in, and works well.

TMarsh

For now, I have to understand why an insurance company needs a death certificate to cancel a policy (a cancer policy so no use). The yearly dues are due by Feb1. I called to cancel they said they need a death certificate to cancel I said what happens if I just don't send in the premium. She said they'd cancel the policy. I said then why do you need a Death certificate. I'll just let the policy lapse. She said they need one for their records.I said why? What's the difference? She said this way they won't keep sending reminders. I said, " You want me to pay $5 a copy so you won't have to send out a couple reminders to renew a policy that can't be renewed? I tell you what, you do what you want. I've informed you she has passed as a courtesy. I'm not going to renew. Send all the reminders you want. Have a nice day."

Todd Sounds all most like the Bank Of America.

Lee Sorry I did not get to call you, Sue had some honey dew's come up, then I just plan forgot. Need to see if there are in new listings as well.

Galaxy While I will be back at the dinner before your surgery, want to wish you good luck as well.

Train Front Y6 b is driving me nuts. Clean the wheels of the engine and tender today. Flipped it over and check to see if I have wore the plating off the drivers. Still no copper showing. Made it around the bench two times and started stalling again at the same spots? Couple of the spots do have rail joiners, so maybe flexing is causing the lost of power. Yet my Big Boy that weights more (but is longer) does not stall, neither do the other smaller and lighter engines. Did pick up a new track cleaning car hopping the older ones pads are worn down to where they want clean the spots the Y6 b do not like. Made no differences so far.

 See you all Saturday.

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me right now......

Been an interesting day.  Hopefully i have everything I need packed for the meet tomorrow.  Got an email this evening saying they will let us in the back entrance at 8AM.  Main doors will open at 8:30 which is when registration starts.  Went to the $ store to buy certificate frames, then to the grocery store, and then down to the gas station.  man, has the price of gas gone up here in town since the last time I was there about 3 weeks ago!  It cost me $14.60 to fill up the Yaris!!!  (Ok, it was only half a tank down, but man!).  The rest of my "belt Drive" workshop items arrived today so hoping next week I will have them ready to install.

As I was getting supper tonight, I looked out the window to see an ambulance driving by slow.  Inside lights were on so I figured they were working on someone.  Not 5 minutes later another ambulance goes by the same way, inside lights on with the usual emergency lights going.....  Don't know if it was 2 separate calls, or part of the same incident.  Didn't hear or see anything else.

Galaxy, before I forget.  Please know you are my prayers for a successful surgery!  I won't be on much the next few days, so I wanted you to know now.

Guess I'll get ready to turn in for the night.  Have an early start tomorrow!

Hey guys.

Now that I don't have to do anything for the next few days, I can finally get to getting all of the car updated. Got the new quadrant and firewall adjuster in today. Gonna try to some tricks to get the new bushings in. the larger ones are a bit too large to get into the holes.

Also been chipping away at that essay. about halfway there.

Jeff, Almost had that happen once roof repair patch or sealent (matches aluminum roofing)

Ken, Have you checked the electrical continuity between the wheels and the decoder?

Anyways, g'night. as Galaxy (or was it John?) TTYL

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Larry, I like the free lanced and club logo on cars.  Currently on my layout I’m collecting rolling stock from Great Lakes railroads. I only have a few from local layouts but I keep my eyes open at the train shows.  I thought the BRC was hand lettered, I haven’t seen one before for that road.  I’m watching for a FP&E (Fairport and Lake Erie) box car to finish up my collection of Ohio fallen flag RR.

Ken, no problem.

My trip to Macomb township (north of Detroit) to see my kids has been cancelled.  Weather guessers finally stated we will get 4-8” along the Lake Erie shoreline and possible ICE/SNOW between Toledo and Detroit between 0700 and noon tomorrow.  No sense in risking the drive when I can wait until favorable weather conditions to prevail.

Chamomile tea in Santa Fe  cup, please.

Worked on the retaining wall behind the Fire Station on wife's (HO) layout. Also put in place the last tunnel portal and some touch up sheetrock mudding elsewhere on her layout. Still soooo much to do, sitting there resting a bit I started feeling overwhelmed again.

Oh, I ordered a cheapo little spy camera from HK. Should be able to capture some video from the wee little folks perspective on the wife's layout. We'll give it a try from atop a flat car.

Not much else to report on. Hope everyone is doing well.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Good Morning Folks,

7 hours of sleep without waking up in between - I feel great!

Zoe, coffee and a big breakfast with all the works, please.

Dinner yesterday evening was really nice. It feels so good to have some kind of a social life again. It really boosted Petra´s and my spirit.

Not much planned for the weekend.Maybe i will be working on that cabinet design for my layout. It´ll be raining all day long, so I´ll better stay inside.

Kvetching about gas prices - it costs me $ 115 to fill up my little Renault... Crying

Have a good weekend!

Edit: My payment to PayPal has just been credited to my account, so I could make my payment for the loco. Never thought I could be happy to pay a bill! Now my little "Japanese beauty" is on the way to Germany:

Here is a link to video showing my beauty in operation. This is N scale!

 Morning Folks

 Flo. Coffee and Waffles please.

Saturday we open at 9:00 AM so have to get going early today.

Ulrich Good looking engine. Something you may all ready know but about 1/2 of the Tracks A Head series has segments on Japanese Railroading. I have been watching them on U Tube.

Vincent I have wonder if there might be some lose or bad wires in the Y6 b. After I work on the track, if that does not fix the issue I will open the engine. All so need to check and see if the tender is still getting power to the decoder. BLI seems to have a problem with that for some reason and worth checking out.

 See you all for Dinner.

Be glad you got the Toyota Yaris that gets what? 156 to 210  MPG? I would LOVE to get a half tank for JUST $14.60 istead of $40.00 or more on either the Kia Sedona Minivan or the Dodge grand caravan! MOH would too! Ray, you "green" headed gas sipper you!

Tx for the prayers.....they shall be needed surely.

SPeaking of thoughts and Angel, Thank you all for those special thoughts and prayers for me on Monday! I will need them. should be an easy surgery.

TODD could take  a lesson form you and me, we abbreviate our "private" Dr.s visits to bare minimum, and leave gorey details out. I survived mine with flying colors...take the PSA on Monday the 17th before i go in for back surgery. SInce my father's father died eventually at 93  of problems caused by Prostate Cancer, and My father had Cryosurgery to freeze out his Prostate tissue {the idea being the cancer no longer has tissue to feed on and less invasive than a radical prostate removal} so I am PRIME candidate for Prostate cancer, direct 3rd in line easily. I do take two meds so I can pee on my own {I Know TMI}. But Prostate cancer is nothing to be sheepish about! MEN! Take heed and get checked out!

TODD proving death is often times harder than proving births. You need to only order/pay for about 5 copies of death certificate {keep one to yourself} and just send photcopies of it to most places who want the death certificate. A few places will really want the stamped Notarized copy so that while you need a few that you pay for, in most cases a copy will do. WE found this out when my mother died 7 years ago. SOme will only look at, photocopy anyway ans return to you.

Ulrich: Nice looking locomotive there!!

Vincent: I'm with Ken on this one. Loose wires, bad connections will do just that. As well, the idea that BLI seems to be having issues with their tender connections is a bit of a concern to me as well...

Ken: I like the tracks ahead series. Seen some really cool stuff on it...

Today, we be snowing ...another 3-4" worth is expected to fall on our noggins by this afternoon...more shoveling I guess...

I got our tank filled up this morning...total cost? $117.75....yay......notice how even this is nothing?

Good Morning! Coffee and crossed fingers please.

My two favorite commercials anymore are both GEICO (or however it’s spelled). The little piggy crying wee wee wee all the way home and the woodchucks chucking wood get me laughing every time. Simple minds I guess, like simple things.

I guess my sister is coming over again today. Why? I don’t know. That is if she does. What it will do is keep me home waiting, because she doesn’t know exactly when she will get awayConfused. Hopefully sometime between 1 and four she said. Depends on when her husband works. He’s still one of the low men on the totem pole at NS and any of you railroad guys know how THAT works. Said she’d call if she can’t make it. Which means there's a .05% chance she will call if she can’t make it. Any who, I guess I’ll shift my casual day to today maybe (unless I’m over ruled) and do tomorrow what I planned for today. Which really wasn’t much now that I think of it. Tomorrow shall return to being reserved for Church and dinner out with Brenda then relax and lounge. Maybe relax and lounge. Hopefully.

Barry- Me? Sarcastic? Surprise Why, I’ve never noticedWhistling. I’ll try to be more……Naaaaaaah!Mischief

Why the crossed fingers? Well I’ll tell ya. It’s time to shut down and reboot the old corn-puter. She’s a startin to slow down just a bit. Just starting to notice and as fast as a computer works and as slow as I think, the thing has got to be dragging by computer standards. Doesn’t happen very often, but when it does, and emptying of the temp files, removing of the cookies ( No Ray, not the eating kind so might as well put the cookie plate away), running of Superantispyware then reboot and all is well. BUT! No more than this thing is shutoff, usually in the middle of the night when MS reboots for an update or something, It's always a scary event on an older computer.

Welp, off to do something. Maybe continue to cleanup in the train room. May go retrieve my sawhorsies from Mom’s house. That will give me a surface to cut some ¼ inch OSB for the layout. Hm. Now there’s a thought.

Hey you dang woodchucks! Quit chuckin’ my wood!

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Afternoon guys

Working on the essay again. Can't wait for summer so I can be done with writing for good.

Tried pressing the Urethan bushings into the control arms, but no go. They new bushings are about .20 too large. Tried everything I could think of but no dice. I'll call the place that makes those bushings when they open. If I have to send these back I may just buy new control arms off of rockauto (I can get a set from a 2003 cobra that are a better design and will fit)

Also tried to get the drivers seat back in (removed clutch quadrant yesterday) but it's an electric one and it wouldn't go foward or back. Took the rack apart, cleaned it, and put it back together. One side started to move. I take it apart and get at the worm gears. Both were busted. Gonna have to get another rack from the junkyards on monday. Don't know if I'll just pass on the electric one and get the older non-power one.

My throat has been feeling funky since last night. Feels like I have something caught in my throat when I try to swallow, but I'm not coughing. I don't have any congestion either. Maybe it's just a sore throat?

Gas, I feel a bit lucky around you guys with those cost to fill up. I have a 15.4 gallon tank, but I usually end up putting in 10-13 gallons into  it. I had to get 13.4 gallons the other day and it cost me about $44. But then I have to you plus (midgrade?). When I do some more work to it, I'll have to use premium.

My mother had an 03 expedition. Occasionally me or my father would use it (carrying more people or a trailer). She got so tired of filling it up she made a rule that whomever is using it when the "low fuel" light is on has to fill it up. I would look at the gas gauge before I borrowed it because it cost 85 bucks to fill it up.

Ken, That could easily be it. Have you had any issues with the BLI diesels since you run your trains alot. I only have 2 BLI locos (a pair of C30-7s; one with sound) and have actually done anything with them.

Watching the Ravens/Steelers game ATM. just doing that while I write. Gonna watch the Packer's game later.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

 Just a quick stop.

Got to see four jets fly over for the Steeler gamer, while I was shopping.   Talk about LOUD.   Jessica thought they should be getting to the game, but at 300+ mph they will get at the stadium in a few minutes.

Jeff........I was shopping at Wal-Mart and thought you would like this.  They have a DVD "The Great Indian Wars" for $2.50.  I bought a copy.  Its looks pretty good.

Strong coffee in a melting  Snowy & Southern  mug, please. (snow is melting, not the mugMischief)

The little key-chain video camera arrived today. The good news is "it works".Big Smile That said, after 6 attempts at shooting some video of my wife's (HO) layout to share with y'all, it became quite apparent, the tracks will need to be cleaned first. Geepers, I thought burnishing them would keep them in ready shape for a while. Guess the tracks have been collecting dust.Hmm

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Evenin' folks............

Flo just a decaf to warm me up and help me relax!  I'll be in the back by the stove.

The Meet ended up going very well with almost 60 people showing up on a cloudy day with lots of flurries around.  One of the Clinicians didn't show,  Probably a weather related thing as he lives about 40 miles North of where we were and they were being buried again.  So we had the 2 other clinics without having to rush, the Modelers Showcase, and some time chat as well.

I went over to Elbridge, NY to a historical Club Layout in the old NYC Station there right along side the FGLK mainline tracks.  No trains moving today, so no railfaning shots.  Then I went over to a nearby hobby shop.  Borodino's.  he specializes in Scratch building items.  I get real happy in his store...  Spent about $20, so he is happy as well.  Our raffle more than paid all the bills for the day, so both divisions are happy too!

Roads were fairly bad on the way home as the white fluffy stuff had been drifting across the roads between there and here.

I was going to make a couple comments on some posts, but I am just too tired to even remember what they were....

Later!
