Good morning. It's 25 and sunny with no wind chill. The high will be 56 and it will be mostly sunny. Not quite so cold tonight.

Nothing special going on today. I have to go outside briefly this morning to check on a Bachmann FT shell that's been soaking in 91% alcohol for about 18 hours. Most of the paint was off it by 8 pm yesterday but there were some stubborn areas. One of which was the nose halfway between the pilot and the headlight. I'm hoping the paint there is now gone. I also have to shave a little off the bottom of the pilot. For some reason Bachmann made it a little too low on the FT and it has a tendency to scrape the rails in some places.

Robby P.

Good COLD morning.  Its currently 0 Degrees and the windchill is -7.    COLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not really, it's just an absence of some heat is all...

Morning all

Cold here too, but at this point where isn't it cold?

Bundle up and cover all skin if going out today as we don't need frost bitten fingers and toes now do we?

Not much planned today, stay inside except to check the mail.

MOH will have to go and do shopping for the inlaws. I may have to suffer and go too.

The FIL broke his ankle and acts like he is an invalid and is milking it for all its worth, even though they gave him a walking cast, he still likes to sit in the MIL's wheelchair and moan and groan, and call us to do every little picky thing for him. He even rides the stair lift chair for my MIL up and down the stairs instead of navigating them. It is broken, but just a simple fracture. ANd they would't have given him a walking cast if he couldn't walk on it. How he manages to assist the MIL with getting up adn dressed and to her chair and toilet I don't know, and don't want to. MIL had a severe stroke 15 years ago, left ehr left side paralized and she doesn't complain nearly as much as he does! I can ask thoughts and prayers for him and them, but not sure he deserves tehm. He has always acted like assisting MIL was such a chore! No one else ever had such a chore placed on tehm! No one has the woes he has with her! No one is more put-upon than he is!

I grew up asssits my mother who had Multiple Sclerosis with toileting chores and hand feeding her and lifting her and hauling around in the wheel chair everywhere we went with ramps to the van, so I know what it is to take care of someone who needs 24 hour care! I grew up doing all the houselhold chores as my mother couldn't! I cooked and cleaned and did the laundry and toileted mother , and did all for the family at age 9! I was the oldest, so everything befell to me as father had to work to support us! My FIL knows LITTLE about caring for an invalid! and now he acts like one!

I did more the day of my {somewhat cripling, semi-relieving}  back surgery after teh surgery in terms of chores and getting around than he has done all week!

Jeffrey W. gets around on a  broken bent over foot and does more in a day than my FIL will do the next 6-8 weeks while "it heals"! I realize FIL is 82 and may take some tiem to heal, but rediculous he acts like the world has come to an end!

I told MOH to CALL FIL BEFOER going to grocery store to get groceries for FIL to make sure MOH has ALL hte list and the FIl said " wells theres always somehting we need, but get what you've got on the list and I will call you for everything we need"!! I told MOH to tel FIL that WE only go grocery shopping ONCE a week, nto every day ike he wants, and that we will only grocery shop ONCE a WEEK for them! BUT FIL will call later today with some other nit picky request!!!

Whew! SoapBox    over!

I bettter get off now. That rant just blew my mind! Might have had an anurism on that one!

Healing thoughts to all those in need here. Seems like quite a few again.

Good Evening fellow night owl diners!

It is indeed rather brisk outside tonight in Winterpeg. We just got back from the hospital and it is -23F with a windchill of -40 which is the same Celcius or Farenheit-- cold!!  Anyone want to trade their cold for ours?? What no takers!  Chloe, I ask you, where is the spirit in this bunch. Oh and bring me a hot chocolate please, I'll be in the back hugging the stove.

Have had a nerve wracking week here. A week ago yesterday my wife went to see one of her doctors for her 6 month check. This doc is a surgeon who specializes in br----t c-------r and as there is a family history of it my wife gets regualar checks. Well she found something which she said didn't 'overly concern' her but nonetheless she wanted to check it out so yesterday my wife had a biopsy done. It did largely confirm that it isn't a problem, thank goodness, but we will have to wait for the lab results to be sure. Anyway I got home from work today and my wife noticed a lot of redness spreading on her abdomen so off to Emergency we go. Doc there said he was almost certain it wasn't an infection but likely a delayed reaction to the freezing used yesterday.  My wife seems to have developed sensitivity to some drugs ever since her episode with the blister beetle in Africa a few years ago. He said it was a 'very interesting case'  but did give her anti-biotics via a drip just to be safe. She has to go back tomorrow for a repeat. We await lab results on that too.

Galaxy , glad to hear your surgery went well and here's hoping it does something for your back pain. I can't imagine what it must be like for you to have that as a constant companion.

Ulrich, hope the docs can fix up your Mum.

I know I'm missing someone else but it is late and I'm a little tired right now, so please forgive me if I missed someone.

On the RR front, I finally finished the O'Leary Dairy and it now occupies the spot where the freight shed was. It is a nice kit but there were a lot of detail parts to paint. I re-located the freight shed to a siding near the station which is a more logical place for it. I just have to put in a driveway for it and a little scenery finishing but that will have to wait for a later date.

Yikes it will be tomorrow in 15 minutes, so I had best sign off for now.

Good evening.

Had a full day of non-model-railroad stuff.

Rob ... Thanks for the remark. I liked making the old Kleiber truck.

Ken .. Glad you have a solution to the P-1000 F3 motor problem.

The Chapel Car is still spotted at the diner. ..........

Ulrich ... Prayers for your Mom's health.

Galaxy .. Prayers continue for your recovery from surgery and that your back pain is solved.

Jeff .. Prayers for you health and the foot.

Ray ... Prayers for the bus accident victims.

Shelley and I were in Hopkinsville assisting the younger brother of our Cincinnati daughter in law. This young man is a good, hard working guy dealing with some very tough problems. I'll include him on the prayer list without further explanation. Suffice it to say he definately needs prayer and God will know what this is about.

Have a good evening everyone.

Dang it is Cold out there!

Flo, will you warm a beer up for me? I will pretend I am in England.

Vincent Car started fine with a jump, but as JR said more than likely it is on it last leg.It is only 8 or 9 years old. Good luck on your high RPM miss.

Ulrich Best wishes for your mothers health issue.

Work Front Not getting a warm and fuzzy feeling right now. One thing I have learned in sales "it is all wise the salesperson fault". Seems like every day I work alone it is dead. Today I had one customer and did get the deal but for less money than owner thinks I should have sold it for. Well, he is right, but I had to meet a competitors prices and had the feeling he was going to be the only person I saw all day. Did not want to have zero dollar day.

Have a early meeting Saturday before work, I have to get up by 6:00 AM and be on the road no later than 6:45 AM.

Train Front Thanks to Darth Santa Fe I got a great deal on some need motors for my PK 1000 F'3 and hopefully they will fit my Stewart F 9's and PK 2000 BL 2's!  New motors for under $6.00 each, I bought 6 and Simon 1966 bought 4. Now to round up a few BBQ decoders and send them off to NCE. They take them in trade and sell me there D13SR for $10.00 each. Next I will need a flywheel puller and I am all set.

 See you Saturday!

Decaf coffee, please.

***Garry, very neat scene. Put it on the puter desktop for the Mrs to see. That rusting truck is especially  cool. Thumbs Up

Well, mixed up plenty of asphalt and went nuts on the wife's (HO) layout. Covered ALL the concrete parking areas, the area around the drive in theater and even the short drive up to the hospital.

Then ran one of my (N) trains, just for a quick fix. Sometimes wonder if I'll ever get to my own layout. Time will tell.

Evenin' folks!

Flo, just a decaf for me tonight...  I will be sitting in the back booth by the stove trying to stay warm..... Currently 11°F here in the Finger Lakes on its way down to around 6°F during the night.  Now really this is not all THAT cold for this time of year, but then it is cold............

This morning, Ulrich posted the following-

Sir Madog

Received some bad news about my mom. One of her cardiac valves refuses to work properly, putting her out now and then. She is right now at the hospital and gets a check-up, so they can schedule the upcoming surgery. It is a routine job for a younger person, but at the age of 82, the risk is much higher. Once I know when the surgery will be performed, Petra and I will stay with my dad for a few days, so we can take him to the hospital to see my mother.

I sent prayers for his mom his way and prayers for he and his wife to have the strength to deal with the situation.  Some of you evidently are not reading all the posts...........WhistlingLaugh

I started the last of the SS LTD belt drive machines this afternoon (a Small Table Saw) and very quickly realized I had one piece in the kit that belongs with a different kit and were missing a couple other things.  So i sent off an email to SS LTD letting them know what was missing and that i was unhappy because I couldn't finish it today and wasn't going to be able to say some of those words that my Mom used to wash my mouth out with soap for using to finish it....  Got a nice email back in less than 2 minutes saying the parts would be in the mail to me very soon.  I will be painting the last 3 as soon as I get the parts and get them into the engine house/ workshop.  Then i can set to w*rk putting in all the belt drives and other stuff for it.

Hope all of you have a great and safe night!

Afternoon guys. *sees all the ducks* is it duck hunting season yet?

Kind of warm here in florida, I haven't had any frost in a week or so. Sorry to mention that one to all you guys freezing up north.

Whatever I had went away yesterday morning; but came back when I got to work. Same story today; but now I feel better, except for being tired.

Got all the timing, throttle, and tune stuff on my car squared away. At least under normal conditions. If I gunned it and the RPMs got past 5,200 it would stutter, kick, then keep going. I bought some spark plug wire seperators. I had braided them together to keep it neat; but I guess that's a big no-no... Haven't tried it to see if it works; but if it doesn't I'm thinking it might be my distrubutor cap and/or rotor.

Ken, Dunno if you know this or not, but cold weather wreaks havoc on batteries. I've had 2 of my craftsman recharable ones for some of my power tools go bad this winter (garage isn't heated) and the battery in my brothers car went dead too. I tend to use the 2 amp trickle overnight; and the 10 amp one for about 2 hours. My battery charger will shut itself off if the battery is at 100% and will also tell if a battery is bad.

Must say it's kind of weird your having issues starting your car about the same time I was having trouble keeping mine running (would kill itself when trying to idle). Found out when I did the timing last I bumped the little dial on it. It's good now.

Todd, I've never had a problem with the steel ramps I bought or the wooden ones I made (layered 2x8s with a 2x4 at the top for the stop). I have a set of plastic ones that I always try to slide whenever I use them.

I see Lee had a visit from Mr. Murphy at his open house.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooood Afternoon, bucket of coffee please, extra boot. I'll grab a corner booth, been battling some kind of cold this week.

Goofy-gosh, it is cold cold cold! How cold? Why....thanks for asking! It is so cold out there today, when I took Rerun out for his mid-day "duties," the fire froze on the end of my smokey treat!

THAT's a true story..................

Here's hoping for health, wealth and prosperity to us all. Failing THAT, I'd settle for a good, SAFE day for us all.

Good Morning All!

Not much to report from the land of frozen Buckeyes other then its cold and we didn't get as much snow as the weather gussers called for..

Yesterday I fooled around with Slate Creek's plans and fixed to more short comings.Glad I "finger" switch the plan and found my errors.Slate Creek been a tough nut to crack since I moved away from older switching layouts ideas and into the modern designs.Even in N there's little room for errors which brings me to this..Over the past few years ISL seem to have become more popular to include 2 books on building and designing switching layouts..

I shall have a cup and look over the forum.

Have a good'un! Thumbs Up

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes, side of bacon, and lots of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.  Oh, and bring over the bottle of NYS maple syrup please......Big Smile

Ulrich, prayers for your Mom (and you and Petra as well)

Robby, you and your wife are also in my prayers.  Not fun living with that much stress.........

Currently 20°F outside here in the Finger Lakes, the high for the day.....  Seems like some of you over West of here are sending us the chill you have right now.  By Sunset this evening it is supposed to be all of 5°F.  I have to do some shopping, and then I plan to kick on the heater down cellar and w*rk on the projects for a change.  I am waiting to hear back from the FGLK on permission to do some railfanning that could get me on their property for some great (I hope) photos....

So far the students and driver in yesterday's accident are holding their own.  You can see the buss and read about it here.

Best get moving!

A possibility. I have felt that experience before with  a "helping hand".

But now, with a cane in hand, nad handicapped plates on my van, I require them to do the lifting/or ask a manager to get someone to help.

Sometimes, Sometimes, I feel sorta guity when a man who is obviously  in his 60's or older has to do the lifting, even if his back is not in such great shape. But I just had two major surgeries to remove two tumors from my back in the last 3 months. SO, sorry pal, you get paid to do the lifting. By yourself, or with one or two of your coworkers.

Todd,   Yeah the wheels in the rungs thing makes for a bumpy ride, but the better el cheapo ramps have little straps to fasten to the tailgate so they don't bump off and drop the whole thing. Before we had the ramps, my preferred method was to drop the gate to an angle and drop whatever heavy object I was wrassling onto some old deflated tires (dismounts even better, but most of you don't keep scrap tires in piles at homeWhistling so probably that's not an option). J.R.- Strength wasn't really the issue. The only issue with the "cheapo" ramps was they were all built like ladders and the spacing of the rungs available at the four locations that sold them close by. The spacing of the rungs was far enough apart that the wheels would have fallen in between and either stuck or made for one heck of a bumpy trip. The other option was the caps you put on 2X6's or 8's and I figured that would be like trying to get the thing up a sheet of ice. Or down.

G- Understanding the plastics now a days are a lot better than they were many years ago, certain things like gearboxes make me kinda shy away. It ws mainly the recomendation of a satisfied owner and the mention of the ability to (turn off your ears Ray) "suck up and spit out a cat without knowing it" plus assorted other things that really sold it. PLUS past experience with John Deere that after the warranty, any parts I need can be ordered and the dealership has a drop box at Brandts here in town where they will drop off the part. I have moved snowblowers before and figured a little help from Brenda may would most likely be required, but she will not be able to help me with this, unless of course the guy was letting me do most of the liftingConfused. A possibility.

Good morning. It's 32° and cloudy with a wind chill of 25°. I'm not going out there anytime soon if I don't have to. The high will be 46° and it will be sunny and turning cooler tonight.

I got the work caboose painted last night and put the L&A decals on it this morning. It still needs more work but is as complete as I can make it for now. As for plans for today, i have none, except to stay in where it's warm.

Hi gang

Went yesterday to help a friend do somethings. got to sit for most and didn't have to  do any lifting, more thatn the weight of a say a book. SHifting/sorting so  papers is easy enough.

This same friend has a HUGMONGOUS GINORMOUS Bard tht he has offered me space into which to build a layout of my liking. Problem is, it is a BARN, unfinsihed, unclimatically controlled and dirty dusty. I have said "would love to but sorry I can't" due to conditions. That and he is 45 mins drive away and that is a long commute {not to mention gas costs} to drive out there. I have strongly suggested to those who want to build a layout in a garage or unfinished basement that they do some insulating and finishing before what could be definitely hundreds of dollars and often into the thousands of dollars for a layout to make it hospitable to the model trains. SO why would I do any less? and I don't intend to try to fishish a segment of HIS barn with insulation, sheetrock and climatecontrol equipment. Nice idea though...I could have a 200' x 150' layout on dogbone style or u shaped  and still nto take up all the barn,,,,,*sigh*

I Want to thank whoever said continued prayers for healing. GOing well, bandages off and looking good on the incision. I see the surgeon next ties to remove teh removeable stitches.

Jeffrey, sorry about your foot. BAd shape and keeping it may be a sight better than loosing it I suppose? Know all to well pain in getting around, just different areas of the body.

Todd, Interesting aobut the snowblower. Thank you for removing long explanations. I know what its like to get someone to load somehting heavy for you {I have to with the cane in my hand} but wonder how the heck one gets it into place at home. FOr many things, a little at a time, but for big things...maybe you shoulda seem if they deliver it for you. All metal snowblower sounds good but wonder if the plastic is better. probably nto if you run it into things plastic can breack, metal will only dent I guess. Now when you get it unoaded and running, you will have to chase after it, they tend to get away from one when one is using it. FOrtunately I have MOH who is strong with a decent back, but a snowblower would be antother thing....i might have to pay delivery charges to get it home.

Well we had snow aobut 5" lightweight fluffy stuff according to MOH. so good, but MOH hates the bitter cold that makes it taht way.

Have to go to run a few errands today but will be home resting most of the day. {after the surgery I have that excuse} LOL.

After long and careful thought, they have convinced me. I have come to the conclusion that they are right. The aliens did it.

Good Morning All,

Another 5-6" of snow this morning but we got the house cleared and headed into the shop a little late and under blue skies. Go figure. Traction control on the new Fiesta work well.

Our prayers for those of you still recovering, getting examined and just in need. Jeff - hope they come up with some sort of solution for you. I know just from what little i did to my foot that it's a challange some days just moving. Can't imagine what it would be like with the whole thing angled.

Todd - the cheapo aluminum ramps w..k just fine for our snow blower and also for getting race cars on and off the lift here. They are light enough to allow the CFO to tote them around as well.

Coffee's here and I'm out to the shop. Catch y'all later.   J.R.
