Hi guys

Well, did a bunch of errands this AM took 4 hours to do so,and still didn't get all I was supposed to get. Didn't have what I needed was a part of the problem, and didn't know which to get cuz I forgot to write something down.

Have laundry going now. that never ends Bang Head

Cuddles {male orange long haired furry cat who we sometimes call "pickle" cuz he is one} Is in the open window beside me, though probably for about the last time this year. SOmebody's out on a ATV or motorbike in the woods behind us that shoudln't be.

Special thoughts adn prayers for our train-nut-friend's wife who just had a tumor removed form her insides and a final hysterectomy with it after 4.5 hours of surgery and loss of 3 units of blood. AngelAngel

Got some glue as final present for train nut friend's train station present for xmas. Got him regualr glue as I think he will glue everything including himself together with CA. He's got to have a wayto put together the station though....still could glue everything including himself together with that too.

WIll go get mail soon he should have arrived by now. He gets later and later as Xmas draws closer. Expect phone bill Yeah! whoopee! got to mail out Wallyworlds payment too.

Boring huh?

Ulrich and Morgan. I was hopping for some comments of the part of the plan I posted. You don't have to be kind, I can take!

Well, it is 7:00 AM, Sue has came out two times now to let me know Tiff is out of her Little Cesar dog food (her breakfast snack) so I guess I will head out and get some.

Sorry to leave ya hangin'

Reccomendation: Open RTS. Place two #6 swtches so the diverging leads are against each other, and you have two paralell tracks. Even out the ends, I belive what you'll need is a 3 and a 1.5in straight. Copy that, pste it, and then connect one of the flat ends of each with a 22" radius. Flex track the other gap, 8.0 will automatically vut it down, that's a 24" curve. Move the switches up, and do again. That's a 26. Repaet to preference. Tholse curves you can then use to build your new curves in the yard. What you have is nice, but there's too much space lost between the curves (or so it looks to me) When you do the real curves, then use flex and a curved jig, like a tracing on a piece of carboard

Beyond that, I've heard mixed reviews on curved yards. They can be pains to recouple in, but if you aren't doing a lot of that, you'll be fine. My honest preference would be to put the yard on the long wall, save yourself the hassle of curved yards, and use the short wall for the curving effects. But that's my thoughts, and there is merit to putting the yard on that end of everything, since it's the only real flat edge you have.

Jeff ... I hope your Mom will be OK after all of that. .... I think LHS's are better than medical care places.

Todd ... Snubbing Ray ..  ???? ... ahhhhhh.... We had better be careful after the hospitality in Upstate NY during October. Any wine left?

Der John ... I like your little grain bin.

Here, my large bakery (a bread factory) is now done. It's freelance design, and I used Walthers modular parts, and added details from other sources.  I'm installing the industrial tracks to serve it. Scenery will follow.

Vincent .. You recntly posted you had some Smokey Valley handrails.  I meant to tell you I have sued Smokey Valley handrails on Tenshodo GP7 I rebuilt. Engine looks good, but the old metal gear drive is sort of a clunker. So, it's now a display shelf model.

Indifferent Jeff- All I can say is. What...a...day. I'm glad your Mother is fine, though it sounds like you wished she was feeling a bit down on the way to the center. Just glad you both are home safe and well.

I'm sorry if I seem like I'm snubbing you Ray. Jealousy is an ugly thing. Stick out tongue Besides, it's getting messy over here with all the drool pooling up Wink

Home early to rest a bit before w**k. I'm feeling a little drag buttish.

Good morning.

Yesterday was a day I'd gladly trade for a better one. I had to be up early (4:30 am) to get my mother to an appointment at a surgical hospital in Alexandria at 7:30. I got to my parent's place at 5:50 and right from there things started going wrong. She was supposed to be ready to go at 6:00. Instead I find her sorting through her meds so she can show them what she has to take. She finished with that at 6:10. Then she had to get more things together that she had to take along. She couldn't have done this the night before so it could just be grabbed on the way out? Can anybody say 'disorganized'? We have everything together and it's now 6:25. Now she needs a bathroom break. We're finally on the road at 6:45. We have 45 minutes to go 60 miles and neither of us know exactly where the surgical center is. We know it's on Bolton Avenue but Bolton runs from one side of the city to the other! Driving my mother's car is bad enough at times as I find it to be quite uncomfortable but driving it while she's in it almost requires combat pay. She's the perfect side seat driver. Any problems encountered due to bad directions given by her are ultimately my fault and at times I wish there was a luggage rack on the roof. We get to Alexandria at 7:45 as there were several road construction detours along the way. At this point I'm really getting it in the right ear about getting there late at which time I have to hand it back that she was the reason for us being late. Naturally she doesn't see it that way. We hunt around a bit and find the surgical hospital. It's now about 8:10. I get her inside to the admission desk so it's now about 8:20. I had intended to from there to the LHS but then I'm informed that I can't leave. They need me there in case anything goes wrong. I can foresee a really boring day ahead. I checked out the TV but of the very limited fare they had it seemed to all news, shopping channels and soap operas. The news seemed downright depressing, the shopping channels were just about to make me gag and the soap operas had me wondering if there was a hangman's noose somewhere nearby. At noon I headed for the surgical center's cafeteria where I had a small lunch consisting of a chicken salad sandwich and some chips. Finally the procedure she was there for was finished but now she had to be in recovery for a couple of hours. Finally the time came that she was strong enough to get around a bit and give the staff a hard time. We finally escaped from the facility at which time I headed for the LHS. She was still a bit wobbly on her feet so she stayed in the car while I went in and picked up two bachmann freight cars, a Santa Fe Conditionaire covered hopper and a Nickel Plate 40' gondola. We then went to a fast food place with a drive through. I got a cheese burger for myself and a medium Sprite for her. She can't have anything solid until later today. The trip back home was mostly uneventful. We almost got knocked off the road by a log truck that was changing lanes whether we were there or not. I had to slow down fast enough to get clear of the truck but not get clobbered by the tail-gating idiot behind me. I finally got her home then went back to my own home where I headed right for the bed. I got an hour or two of sleep then proceeded on with my evening.

Mornin'    heh, heh, heh......

Hi Zoe, just a cup of dark roast and a couple slices of raison bread toasted with real butter on them....  heh, heh.....

What?  What am I so happy about?  I'm heading out the door in a few minutes to go play with model trains on an MMR's fantastic layout....  Looking forward to it as you can see.

He moved this layout to Hammondsport all the way from Dallas Texas, reassembled it, and enlarged it.  Rewired for DCC (NCE) and it is one of the best laidout for operations as well as being top shelf scenery.

Catch you all later!

Good Afternoon,

there is a terrible storm outside - I am glad I can stay inside, too much Storm.

Flo, a strong coffee for me, please!

Robby - this is your weekend! I am sure the show will be a great success for you!

Ken - RTS allows you  to draw the track as a single line, a double line or a double, filled line. You can also change the thickness of the lines and the color. Go to the view button and select properties. Change the track to single line and the color of the grid to gray - it will be much easier to follow your track plan. Some comments on your drawing: I still think you are trying to put too much into the space you have, without achieving what you really want to have. If you are a railfan - modeler, wouldn´t you like to watch your trains snake around gentle curves in some spectacular scenery? I am afraid this requires a slightly different approach. Your curves look "boxy" - they have no easements, and the track is neatly lined up along the wall. That won´t give you that sweepin´ look which adds to realism. Take a second look at your druthers, think about how you want to operate your layout and what kind of "view" you´d like to have. After all, a layout is a stage for our trains! Just my thoughts ...

You all have a good day!

Good Morning! Coffee and a sweet roll please. One of the big ones. Warmed with a couple pats of real sweet cream butter on top. Thaaaank you!Dinner

Today, sunny and a high of 75. Tonight, rainy with a low of 50. Then tomorrow, high of 55 with rain. Nice weather seems to be over. Of course in a month or two I’ll be giddy over 50 degree weather and rain as opposed to 3 million degrees below zero and sn….(gulp) I can’t say it.

IndifferentWhy does a dog hunt you down after eating just to burp? (shakes head) Weird.

 Good morning.

Man did I have a bad (almost bad) night last night.   First we went to see Jessicas grandma, and IDIOT pulled right out in front of us.   I had to lock the Sonata down, and missed him by half a foot.   Of course I gave him a piece of my mind also.   That's all we need to get the Sonata wrecked again.   Second the "mother in law" might be coming up for Thanksgiving.   Why is that bad?   Its not, but we have no heat up stairs, and she said she would be fine.   It gets pretty cold, and also my B-Day is on Thanksgiving this year.   I don't wanna baby-sit the M-I-L.

Today........Finish up the boxcar, do clothes, and finish packing for the show.

 PC............Long time no see!!

 Mourning AZ

Flo, just a coffee with cream and sweet and low.

JR reason I have such a big air compressor is to keep up with my air tools. I had a 3 HP 30 gallon up right and it would not keep up with my DA's, Air File and paint gun. With mechanical work like you do, you pull the trigger say for 15 seconds, then lay down the tool till you get to the next bolt. With body work I may have the tool running for 10 minutes with out stop. Small one only lasted for about 5 minutes then I had to wait for it to build back up.

Gary Far as building a double deck layout. Sort of but no really. I inversion two mains section being around 3 inch taller than the other around most of the track. I have yet to figure how to use the elevation part of the RTS program.

Vincent I am going to pass on the Ham's car, just does not do anything for me. I will get you Auto Rack boxed up and PM you the information.

Good morning All,

Just above freezing but sunny so it should be a good (if chily) day. I'll have a regular please and a Blueberry muffin to go.

Flopped down before the one eyed hypnotist last night and got nothing done but a nap before bed. I have our vintage sports car club annual general meeting tomorrow and perhaps a side trip to Springfield Ma to see the site of a proposed in the streets vintage race so I'll makeup for my laziness tomorrow.

Hope you're better soon Krump - that's not a good way to get rid of a car no matter what.

Der - that water tank should be good - keep us posted please. Our machinist gave me an article on how to scratch build a water tower using sheet plastic and a stocking container (one of those old Leggs things that came in an egg shaped plastic container) so I can try my hand at that as well. Did find a box of girder parts (probably Central Valley) in cleaning the other day. Speaking of cleaning I did get the hobby bench components moved to the basement the other day so that's a start. I deserved it after spending the earlier part of the day shovelling dirt into the planters the CFO constructed at either side of the front of the house. Wet dirt is not real easy to move.

Onward and upward and out into the shop to start the days proceedings.  CUL, J.R.

PC!!! Great to see you again. I hope all is well with the family. We missed you.

Same with Duke and Krump though they have been in since PC.

I'm proud to be in the company of those who have served and as important, with those who support those who do. Support is of equal importance. Let's not forget that also.

Ulrich- My Father served in WWII in the Artillery. Mainly in France and Italy, but I've heard him reference Germany many times. He staunchly held that it was not the Germans we were fighting. It was the N**zi's. The Germans were just caught up in the middle.

I'll retire for the evening and sleep well knowing there are good men and women protecting me. AND I'll see how the "N" word posts.

Good very early morning on the 12th.Zzz Warning, the links in this should open in New Window, but may not.

Ulrich: That Sir, is one elegant layout!Bow

but the easier way would be just to omit the turntable, if I found out how to install a working coupler on the pilot of my T-12.
I like the mine, and just the one  turntable very much. On a layout that size, running the loco in reverse if you can figure the front coupler thing isn't going to be a big deal is it? I've ridden behind a lot of passenger steam where the loco was that way - presumably because there was no economic reason to turn it.

On your thoughtful comments for the day, the treaty of Versailles was a terrible vindictive mistake - sin, if you want to be theological about it. The result now clearly known.  It's a poignant time for me as my only uncle, whom I never met, was killed in a "Friendly Fire" incident returning to port on the vessel that laid the gasoline pipeline to Normandy after D Day.( Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE http://www3.hants.gov.uk/hampshire-countryside/lepe/lepe-history/d-day-lepe.htm...and http://www.rigzone.com/news/image_detail.asp?img_id=226 for the ship he served on - I think, there were two others equipped to do the job )

Garry:

your work=-n-progress.
...it's HO, but there is progress today as the glue tube seems to be otherwise fully functional.Thumbs Up  Jerry, you can see it's not a Butler field-storage bin ( I finally tumbled to your meaningDunce). It's for feed at a chicken barn. Maybe this progress from today will shed more light as to the format.

TiptonBill: Thanks for the reminder of all those less remembered theatres

PC: Good to see you back again!

Krump: Hope you heal up really quickly and no lasting harm.Angel

On that glue tube thing

I've written to the manufacturer, and we'll see what if anything he has to say.
"he" turned out to be a Kathleen, who said they've now changed the packaging to a bottle, with an (additional cost) needle nose applicator top.  She did ask for my mailing address, so we shall see if anything comes of THAT!

Looks like bedtime yet again. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need.Angel

Philip, good to see you!  That bike out there belong to you.  Somebody was suggesting prayers for you?  Well, I will remember you in mine......

BYW, not only is today Veteran's Day here in the US, but November 11 is also the 216th. anniversary of the signing of the first treaty of the United States.  It is known as the Treaty of Canandaigua or the Pickering Treaty.  The treaty was signed by Timothy Pickering (Council to President Washington) and the Leader of the Haudenosaunee, Chief Red Jacket among many others.  "One of the things that will happen today that is a symbol of that peace and that friendship is that the United States of America will present us with what we call treaty cloth. That was part of the treaty, that they would give that annuity of cloth each year and as long as we continue to receive it, we will believe that the peace is still in place," said Perry Ground, Vice President of Friends of Ganondagan.

This is both a historical celebration that happens every year in Canandaigua and a living piece of the early History of the United Sates.  I am proud to say to this very day both sides of the treaty have faithfully kept their promises signed way back then.......

Got the wood splitter off the trailer and put away for the Winter, stacked a bit of the wood in the driveway, finished up most of the needed items needed for the Batavia Show on Sunday, and attended a Cub Pack Meeting this evening.  If any of you make it to the Batavia, NY show, be sure to stop at the NMRA Booth and introduce yourselves.

Tomorrow I get to run trains at the home of a MMR who lives in Hammondsport, NY.  He has a World Class RR that is definitely fun to operate!  Looking forward to it.

Have a great evening!

A moment of silence for our fallen heros..

Good to see PC, Duke, and Krump.

Good Evening All,

I just knew that the diner would (still) be the place to check in Geeked.  It has been crazy busy around here but fall always brings me back to the TRAINing.  The kids are all active with school, the church's youth group and various sports - eldest will celebrate b'day 15 tomorrow (yikes).  My good wife has been busy with beekeeping and extracting the honey - now the fun begins with the sales at craft fairs.  ME ? - same ole stuff.  The chickens have a new "palace" and my office work (the stuff I get paid for) is busy as ever.

We were trying to sell one of the vehicles - decided to write it off instead.  the other vehicle suddenly took my space on the road.  Still waiting on insurance for the details, and in the meantime I'm doing what I can to be more comfortable - everything aches but that is the blessing - it looked a lot worse than it was.  And yippee-me, I had my first massage yesterday, as a result.

I've been hanging out with the local club again (Salmon Arm, BC) and starting to make time for that.  Also helping a buddy re-design his layout, and that is giving me a lot to think about for renewed efforts on my CASTAWAY railroad details.

The garage is now done, and my train room is available again.  Thumbs Up

Remembering and Thanking all the Vets today.  We are so Blessed.

coffee please.

hey - is that billiards table still operating (or did one of you put a layout on it) ?

cheers, krump

Hi coffee lovers. Yeah, it really is me. pc and us,my wife Deb, have had a very interesting gabfest the last few days. Philip is a very busy man. Keep him in your prayers, please.   Deb has informed me we are going to Ocala saturday. GREAT, as there is a big train show. Been to a couple in the past and the layouts are great. WEll, naturally they didn't find anyhting wrong with the KIA. But it is documented so even if the problem gets identified after the warrantee runs out, it can be grandfathered in as I reported the problem pre-out-of-warrantee. The Service tech said Kia is pretty good about taking care of their customers even after the warrantee runs out....IF you can prove you have properly maintained it. SInce we don't know if the 30k service pack was performed or not, and it has 50 k on it now, he agreed that I should wait til closer to 60K and do the 60k service pack {same as 30K service pack @$395.00+tax, etc}. ALso I wanted to add the spark plugs to the service pack, and he agreed. While they may say they can go 100K on sparkplugs, I have had several Mechanics all say that 75k is the better bet as they do wear out. and Kia service guy reccomended 60-70K. After teh 60K service pack, is the 120k service pack job. SO I will be good for another 60k after I do it {the 60k}  next year. Dunno.

Didn't get all the errands run and tomorrow is the banking as the bank was naturally closed. I also walked all the way down to the wall of locked Mailboxes for the park side we are on and walked all the way back empty handed before I remembered there wasn't any mail today Bang Head

WEll, {deep subject that actually holds water} I shall move on and check out the rest of the forum.

Evening guys

Sledered up half of the front handrails for a GP9. I'm actually using a messed-up GP18 sill as a template for these. Also finsihed the final painting (painting the weight) on the CR MDC 2-bay hopper.

Helped my father (Who himself is a veteran of 26 years, like my grandfather [A Korean war B-29 pilot], and his father and his brother [served in Big Red one in WWII]. There are a bunch in my family; as far as I know all but one came back[lost in Vietnam]) with moving his LTDs around so that the wagon isn't sitting in the grass.

Veterans, Thanks for all you guys put on the line so we can have our freedoms.

JR, I'm mainly using my car as a daily driver, with occasional trips to the local (if you call 30 miles local) dragstrip. I test drove my brothers car which has the set-up I was looking at getting. Looks like it the old-fashioned coil spring and shock/strut.

Ulrich, Here I've heard that KIAs and VWs tend to be unreliable. There's the usual debate of Ford vs. Chevy vs. Dodge here (guess it's the south). Can't say anything since all 4 cars I've had have been Mustangs (88, 97, 90, 94 GT)

Ken, You see the picture on the last page? I think Todd did.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.
