My comiserations to those of you with permanent back pain. The CFO has that from her knee surgeries. The first arthoscopy they had her with a cane and I think it tweaked her spine. By the time she finally got to a chiropractor that knew what he was doing, the damage was done.
Long day at the shop again plus the trip to the docs, UPS and the side show at the parking commission on the way home. Oh joy, I get to have another colonoscopy. Last one was uncomfortable but now they tell me the SOPis to put me under and I'm not liking that one bit. I was alert through the entire last proceedure and so can't understand why they refuse to consider it this time. Easiest answer i guess is lawyers win again.
Vincent, the Mustang should run on 93min IIRC but I'd use the lowest octane that won't kill the mileage. I think with the newer engine management systems, knock won't happen as the ECU will back the timing down to compensate. The best way to tell if you're power is optimum is to record your mileage with a couple of tank fulls of each you try. Not too much difference between major brands these days either. On low compression motors,(without fancy computers and 9:1 or less) we actually see better power on the dyno with lower octane.
If we're thinking of Arizona, how about Williams? Home of the Grand Canyon Railroad, it has sidings right up at the rim of the canyon as well as in Williams where Rt66 runs through the middle of town. The weather this time of year is usually moderate and tourist season is over. The hotels just beyond the station in Grand Canyon National Park have great resturaunts as well if Vinnie gets too rambunctious. The view is ok too. Day trips can include the Phoenix and Tuscon Rail Museums as well as the Petrified Forest and many other scenic attractions. There are even some remaining Harvey Houses for the really historicly minded diners.

We have several plans and data sheets on what they want to do, but nothing solid yet. They will have issues since they released the numbers to the public already; 27% will need to be supported by taxes to keep the fare competitive with driving your own car.

I am trying hard to come up with a low budget version of that layout I had developed for a friend of mine. It can be adapted to the room I have - it only needs some modifications to fit into my space. But whatever I can think of, I end up pretty much with what I have planned already, and just will be a little too dear to me! But no need to rush in.
My Renault is starting to act up - I hope this is not something serious and that it will be covered by the warranty I have. I need my wheels to be reliable, I am not a good mechanic, like Vincent, Ken and Jeff.

Vincent While we did not weight the engine, it had to be close to 1000 pounds with the supercharger.
440 Long Block is around 750 pounds. Guessing with the 6-71, carb's, blower drive and few other things it has to close. Heck, the blower and carbs where a hand full to pick up and carry. Had to use my engine host to sit it on the intake. Intake has studs that hold the blower on so I had t be careful.
On the Blue Box Beer cars, are they Pearl Brewery Car's! If so, let me know, I would like some more!
Far as stuff I am getting rid of, not sure what is under the bench at this point so I don't know. There is going to be Tyco, Life Like and Bachmann rolling stock for sure. All so have some Life Like buildings, yard towers and one there Train Crossing where the gates go up and down.

No remodeling or modeling was done yesterday. Sears did call, 30 minutes before I had to leave for w*rk, that the range hood came in. Today between the truck and w**k I may run in to town and pick it up.

Not too chilly out this am and the rain is holding off for now. Catching up paperw..k in the shop and emptying our last storage container in the yard as part of the pre winter tidy-up.
Ken - yeah I was going to mention to Vincent about the weight of the older V-8s. The original 331 Hemi in the Cunningham C5 we w..ked on was almost 800 lbs dressed including the integral cast iron bell housng. The 330 Caddy v-8 (circa 1950's also) was over 600 lbs without manifolds or flywheel. I see you also erred on the side of caution and had the pieces of strut rod holding up the front of the block.
Time to take my coffee and head out into the shop yard to move more stuff. CUL, J.R.

Thats the fine looking Mike #3254 from Steamtown RAY showed everybody for those who don't know. If she's the puller we will arrive in grandios style to a photo op fanfair for sure. I hope she does well, as she has had "tracking problems lately so she goes fairly slow, a slow safe trip better than a highspeed pile up. They send her back with the rrcas {"lite" is what ehty call it} when she goes out on excursions as she doesn;t do well backing up with a load of cars it tow...and derailing is NOT an option. She will go slow and steady I am sure.

Got up an hour and a half early this morning and visited the Vampire over at the Medical Center. So I have THAT over with. Went to the Water Street Cafe' where I had the same conversation with the waitress there... Place was crowded... They do a good business right in Downtown Geneva. I will now be spending most of the day sitting here at the computer printing materials for the annual MLK Scholarship fund drive and waiting for Fed-Ex to arrive with a package. No, no RR stuff, just wicks for the humidifiers. THAT time of year I guess.

I have ridden behind her a couple of times. She can pull 11 or so heavyweight passenger cars up a 1% or better grade without even sounding off a bit. Last time I rode at Steamtown was back in 2002 I think. They brought up the old Nichol Plate Diseasal thingy to take the load back down the hill and the Mike went along for the ride.
I think even Duke would have to love THAT old girl!
Williams, Ariezony sounds great for the next stop for the diner. If we get parked too close to the rim of the canyon, we better limit how much wine left over from this month gets consumed by the diners............
Currently 47°F here in the beautifull Finger Lakes Region on NY. The high will be 46°F......... Well THAT's what they re saying...... Low tonight of 37°F. I think the wood stove will get lit this afternoon as soon as I get home from feeding the Canandaigua Cats!

I am not yet sure, whether this is it, I am having second thoughts on it. As you can see, the niche to the right is much bigger than in the plan for my friend, the other dimensions are pretty much the same. I know it will be challenging to build (and finance), but will it be fun to operate? Still to many switches...

I have cab-ridden her! She sure is a beaut! Was fun to ride in the cab, thouhg it would have been really great if the engineer let me have a short crack at moving the throttle...though the way he yanks on it ,my back might could not take much of that. I may never get another cab ride as climbing up with my back the way it is may be a hard thing to do anymore. GOod I did it whilest I could!
Though I do have to say I think I like #2317 G3c Pacific just as much if not more tahn the Mike. SHe is in for teardown/rebuild and I never got to ride her cab ride, durn it.
They hope to have #26 samll slope back tendered yard switcher fixed and running again after rebulid next summer then they are actually going to work on the Boston-Maine loco they have sitting in the sidelines apart!! They were asking for donations to rebuild her and they either met their goal or got grants to finish her off. She was supposed to be a 10-20 year project in the making "when they had spare time to work on her" Will be a great pleasure to see HER up and running though for excursions.It may still take them 5 years to rebuild her but theres hope... #3254 is also running out of steam days before rebuild and they haven't gotten her quite straightened out to track right. She'sa bout half to 2/3rds he way through this life cysle I think. I have a feeling until shes apart and they can really attack the frame they won't get the problem solved. Hopefully next summe rthey will have #3254 and #26 runnuing in fine shape!

Went to the Health Unit this morning and got my flu shot. First day they've had them. It's just for the elderly and those with chronic medical conditions. They say I qualify on both counts. It was real quick, just in and out. It took longer to get from the van to the building (just a few minutes) than it did to get the shot and get back out again. From there I went to Lowe's and got a couple of bungee cords. I fitted them to the vans side doors so they can hold the doors open and keep the wind from blowing them shut. The cords stretch to the front and rear bumpers where they hook into the jacking slots in the bumpers. Seems like a worthwhile use for $12. I also picked up a spray bottle to use for the windshield. Since the washer tank is cracked and therefore won't hold water it seems like an easy solution.

Durnit, I never thought of ordering decals for the B&O to go with it! I have to get some somewhere!
Now to get a new train board for under the tree as the old one was only big enough for a 15R loop and I wnat an 18r loop so the boadr needs 36" on center for the trakc, so I think 40 inches will do. I have to watch how much bigger it gets tahn that as the table sits in the entryway to the kitchen and can't block that off...I ain't that skinny! The N scale loops fit inside the HO loop. AMybe now i can look at some ncsscale DCC locos too? {drool} I think we will stick with the DC for the Nscale stuff.

I got my flu shot long ago, and like always, got the symptoms I don't care what they say. I am also entitled as I am serious medical conditions, prone to bronchial infections and pneumonia and on disabilty.

I really do now wish that we had lived closer and we had given you the 92 ford taurus all it really needed was a new radiator or at least keep a close eye on the temp and fill it up frequently. TOo bad I didn't know that was in teh works for you {your car dying and aquisition of the van} or else I may have suggested a road trip to the other half to take the 92 to you! {well then again, the air fare back might have been nasty on our budget} I wish you luck wiht the van and hope it serves you well WHEN you get it all fixed.
BTW after we got the $56 dealer fix on the wiring harness on the 98 caravan it has given us no grief or expensive repairs since then which was in march when we aquired the 06 Kia. Either it go scared we may trade it way, ro that blasted wire was a HUGE problem! The Kia has not been without its problems,though just all covered under warrantee though!

Yep Todd The 440 does look a little small in the photo with the Blower. But in person while it was hanging it looked huge!
GTM I am sure with out the adjustable legs a friend made for me it would have snapped of the neck of the stand. It was hanging really bad with only the long block. No way I wanted to get to the shop in the mourning and find it on the floor.
Robby P How much HP does it make, way more than I wanted! Dennis of Reed Cam's did the heads and custom grind cam, he out did him self (MOPAR Buddy from a web site) . On the Dyno run with the blower over driven 10% it made 689 HP at only 5200 RPM's and 720 foot pounds at 5500 RPM's. What really scared me is it made 300 HP at 2500 RPM's! That kind of power will warp a car! My Charger Body is stock except for Sub Frame Connectors. Till I get a 8 to 10 point cage in the car there is no way I could used that kind of power. So, we switched the pulleys around so it is 10% under driven and installed a throttle stop so the carb's will not open all the way.
Time to paint the door frame, see you all later.

Ken...........I think you would have "Tim Allen" (home improvement show) loving all of the power!!!! I knew a guy back when I lived in NC that he had a old Isuzu pickup truck and made it into a drag truck. He had so much power, he was scared to drive it. The truck ended up just rusting in the yard, and it was a VERY nice truck.

Yes having a motor come off its' stand is not stylish. We had that with one of the guys when he was building his SBC. Made a mess on the floor it did. And the warp the frame thing can get silly too. Way back when there was a V-8 kit for the Vega. Fellow got it but decided he didn't want to install the roll cage for it (too much trouble). Of course, first thing he did when finished was take it out and dump the clutch. Ended up with the RR wheel about 6" off the ground at rest. Didn't work too well after that.

Well, the City says I should have all 3 of my reffing checks. I have...ONE! I haven't received the last two, but apparently they've been mailed. I had a similar problem in the spring!
Also, I will be working at the Depot soon, the training session is two weeks from this saturday. This saturday I go take my driving test for my restricted license. I think if I can think and drive and remember everything, I'll be fine.

When I pulled the old Gateway monitor out of the closet today it initiated a collapse of a mid level shelf that has a bunch of stuff on it. As it was falling toward the door I slammed the door shut. I hope that when I open it again to continue clearing it out that I remember that and stand to the side.

I have spent much of the day finishing the paperwork for Model Railroad Engineer - Civil. Sent the last 2 documents by email to the Division AP chair not long ago. Just waiting for him to say they are done correctly. If so, I will print everything up and we will get together for coffee some time next week and get everything signed. I also drove to Canandaigua to feed the cats.... One more day of THAT. I have to pick up my sister at the airport tomorrow night.
I think I will bring in some firewood and light up the wood stove. Getting chilly in the house. it is 43°F outside on it's way down to about 37°F.

Sawyer It is sure pretty to look at, but after I was done I felt like Dr Frankenstein. What have I done? I should have put it in my 68 Road Runner, it has been built body wise where it could have handle the power. I can only imagine the looks I get at drag strip going through inspection. No trans blanket, no tran's loop, to short of wheels studs and the list would go on.
JR First I am sorry I keep calling you RTM. Back when I owned a radiator shop I had a customer called RTM Racing. Anyway you are right about what would happen to the Charger if I could get traction. It was a standing joke on the MOPAR site all the body filler would fall off from the body flex. Later I will load a video of a friends 68 Charger making a Dyno run. He had 565 HP at the rear wheels (guessing I would be around 600 or so) and the body flex scared the living stuff out of me. His Charger is a rust free CALF car with a 12 point cage.

I got your friend request, but I couldn't get into my account, after almost 4 years, so I started a new one, which I really don't want to use. I sent an email to Kalmbach in the hopes of getting them to reactivate me. I think the problem is, when they changed the forum to the new software, I never posted again, so I got bumped. It could take a few days.
I gotta warn you, I don't do anything with trains anymore. Ever since the cancer diagnosis, I've lost all interest. I've been thinking about selling everything, but I can't quite bring myself to do it.
The surgery got rid of the cancer, but it's never really gone. It hangs out there like a dark cloud. 18 years of diabetes is also starting to catch up with me. That's why I quit working on the layout.
That's the story in a nutshell. I hope it's not too depressing.
It's nice to know that you sitll remember me after all this time. It's fun to see that the diner still bears my name 4 years later. If you want to post this for the guys, that's fine with me. If i get reactivated I'll try to post myself.

I agree, but don't have to haul wood. THere came a sudden chill over the house that required upping the thermostat. OF course, it IS a trailer. It dropped to 45* here,but on its way down too. Getting that time of year. ALso the darkness is settling in and will more rapidly in a week on the 7 th of Nov. {Standard time} That is when I want to go to bed around 6pm!
Sawyer, good luck on the driving test! you'll do fine, drive well and remember everything....driving is really not that hard-just mind you P's And Q's and be on the lookout for the other guy always!

To those who commented on my current situation, a huge thanks from me. We were not able to leave as we planned today for my neice's wedding in Alabama. I am her only uncle, and I should be at the wedding. My neice would like that. Now we are missing out on the rehersal and rehersal dinner. The wedding is tomorrow evening, and it's possible for us to leave early in the morning and go. So, I may grin and bear it in a car for about six hours. Sorry if my spouting off about drunks bothered anybody, but I do have rather strong feelings on that topic. I'm glad vincent agrees with me.
Anyhow, you guys hurry and decide where the diner is headed for November.
