My GPS's neatest feature is the "HOME" button. It is designed to get me home from anywhere in the 48 contiguous United States IF that area was satellite mapped at the time my GPS system was programed about 4 years ago when we bought it and assuming the roads have not changed any. And assuming no new buildings have been constructed, it will get me ALMOST to exactly where I'd like to go. It ALSO needs an "avoid ghetto" highlighted button to alert us to the nearest route around the ghetto and slums.
If only...

28. I'm a high school student (sophmore) and, at least with my school, that seems to be true. I've been hearing a lot of "Hey, Yall, Watch this!" lately, followed by a scream of pain,from an ocasional groin hit on the benches out in front of the school) No, I ain't doumb enough to try any of those "Hey, Yall, Watch This!" stunts.
Galaxy, What gets me is my GPS always sends me the slowest way out of my neighborhood.... The way it sends me has two stop signs and is longer as well. The way I go is the shortest and has only 1 stop sign. Oh, and when I go the "wrong" route, it tells me I should go stop at 2 more stop signs by going the other way around a square at the top of the street.......
Mr. North East.... I can assure you THAT kids today are actually no dumber than when I was a kid...... I was one of the lucky ones THAT lived to tell about it. I could tell you many stories about my own personal stupidity, but I don't want to give you ideas.

Northeast Rail Modeler- I didn't realze that you were a year younger with me. And I agree with number 28. Just out of curiosity, I ask all my teachers if every grade really is as bad as the one before it, and it's always the affirmative.
So today is my first w**k day on my Eagle Project! Wish me luck!Oh, and speaking of THAT... yesterday, the school where I'm doing my project did a dress down day. Kids gave a donation of a dollar or more, and in total raised THREE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That will give me the $230 dollar balance for the lumber, and almost another $150 for paint and other stuff. This is absolutely great!
Tomorrow is my mom's homecoming at TCNJ. While I'm down there, I'll be scoping out the college, since it's on my list.

Robby, I haven't looked back at the last dozen or so pages in the old Diner, so hoping you did all right with your train show endeavor.
I've been putting together (or starting to) some structure kits, including the Revell diesel fuel tank, and some Scale Scenics LP tanks. Got a can of silver spray paint (nice and shiny on the LP tanks), at first to cover up that orange color that the Revell tank's support pieces were. I'll go back and add some rust spots to those over the weekend and maybe post pics (since I'm off-duty this weekend ).
Sorry to report to our East Coasters, but we've had pretty darn good weather this week - temps in the mid-to-upper 70's (F), and lows starting to drop in the evenings. Supposed to be 47 F/ 8 C tonight, and drop to the upper 60's F on Sunday (yep, about 18 C). I expect to see more of the leaves on the trees changing colors/colours this weekend.
Almost forgot - Zan, if those prices for the decoder installs includes the decoders, that's a great set of prices (and even if it doesn't include 'em, still a good price).
Jeff, good to hear that you're taking care of your foot/yourself. Yep, some bills (and the grocery thing) ya gotta do, but then back off that foot. I'm guessing your doctor has something planned to help your foot, right?
I may or may not be remaining in our MRR club much longer. (Edited this down) Short version is, one club member sent an email out to everybody, pretty much condoning razzing others (indefinitely), and that it was just 'fun'. I called him on that, and there are a few others in the club who appear by their usual (similar) behaviors to think it's okay, too. I have a lower tolerance for putting somebody down and then calling it 'just fun'. Okay, , back in your corner - I'm done for now.
I'd best head for home and see about some dinner, since I'm on-call tonight. Then tomorrow morning, it's MY weekend time! Hope you all have a great weekend (and some drying out time for those in the (soggy) Northeast.

That was a hoot Ray and much needed today. No clutch for the RAM50 (a Mitsubishi Mighty Mite by any other description Jeff- totally nothing good like a D50) and no paperwork for Mom so no 90th birthday party/family gathering until spring at least. Apparantly the Urgent catagory in applications in good old Canada cuts the wait from 230 days to a mere 180 if appplied for in time. No matter she's been a legal immigrant since the '70's and sent the paperwork in July - Rules is rules. At least it makes one appreciate the near lightning speed of the U.S. bureacracy. . So at this point a list of foibles and observations is much appreciated. At least the Amilcar co-operated today. Time to drift off home and I'll wait on that glass of wine until then Chloe, thanks. TSF, algebra2? We just did linear programming earlier this week. It's actually decently easy to me, but then so were proofs in geometry; it's just 3D space. Think about it like a photograph; it's 2D but shwos something that's 3D.

Oh I fully agree. My cell phone is supposed to be capable of texting, but I haven't a clue how to. I figure if I want to talk to someone, I will TALK to them. If they want to talk to me, TALK to me. DOn't text me, cuz I don't know how to retrieve. I guess it has its place if one must communicate while being quiet, but if one should be paying attention in a meeting, in class or the movie theater, then they shouldn't be communicating with me, period.
In fact only my other half, my father and the FIL and the mechanic have my cell phone number. I don't give it out willy nilly as it is truely for emergencies only and I will NOT answer it unless I can pull over safely or go somewhere quiet to have my conversation.
Sad part is, many of today's young people will sit in the same meetings and instead of voicing their ideas and opinions, they text each other! The don't know how to talk, or use cursive, and some can hardly print even! Typing and texting and scanning are the order of the day.

Zandoz and Galaxy, I agree 100% with the texting. In fact I never text, in part because I refuse to own a cell phone at the moment... When I did own a cell phone, only my son and my Sister in Canadaigua had the number (I gave it out to my Mother, but thought she would have to call me using her TV remote.... THAT's another story for another day. ). They would most likely never get me on it anyway because I never had it on. The battery was completely dead most of the time so it only w*rked when it was plugged into the lighter socket in the truck or car... I finally got sick of shelling out for the 25 FREE minutes I got every month (for $18.95).
Git a bit more done on the module today in between running errands. Took my wheelbarrow down to the local owned tire store as it had a flat tire. The guy told me to just turn it over and use the side THAT wasn't flat....... I've been doing business there for close to 30 years... Unfortunately they know me pretty well. Picked it up late this afternoon, cost me $23 for a new tube and the labor. He also was amazed to see a steel wheelbarrow. We both agree the new Mall Wart plastic ones will last about 3 years before they disintegrate from the UV if you leave them outside at all... If they didn't, how would they sell you a new one. I like my ancient old steel one. Rolls a lot better with the wheel being round now!

Its only x and y. Would help though if the kids in my class would shut the bloody 'ell up and let the teacher do his job. Small room, loud, annoying uperclassmen and my nerves running thin. I've been so close to grabbing one of them by the collar and telling them to either shut up or pay attention. If you don't want to be in the class fine, don't hurt those of us who want to learn.

Now, you don't have to worry about me having any ideas. I mainly stay at home, reading books (Treasure Island, Mig Pilot, and Lost At Sea are the top 3 on my list right now...) scouring through my 20-30 years worth of Model Railroader magazines (about 25 years of them I purchaced at the last train show that came to Jacksonville, FL) for scale drawings of anything that I can scratch-build. I have never done anything stupid intentionally . I'm not joking.

I agree completely. I've never been too crazy with cell phones (I don't even know how to use the one I got. The 2 minutes of use it ever recieved was from when my Dad was trying to figure out how it worked) I see the CB radio a lot easier for me to use. An added bonus is that some also have scanners in them, along with NOAA wether radio.
Now, stare in amazement, gawk, or run for a bomb shelter in fear that the world was ending, I am a teen-ager who doesn't like cell phones (and would rather do without one)

You'll notice, I didn't say it "texts". I have had points where being able to see what the person said 20 minutes ago would be nice, such as Adresses. But I'm with everyone else, 95% of the time, if I have something to say, I want to SAY it. I cannot text witha Bluetooth headset. And you'll notice, not one of the Star Trek crews typed on their shirts. They clicked them, and TALKED.

huh, we had linear programming with three coordinates. I hear you on kids who don't want to learn...I have two CP classes this year, and while in art it's really laid back, in computer apps there;s a fair amount of kids that don't really care it seems, they're pretty loud. I usually listen to them while I work though, they're pretty entertaining. That's what I like about my honors classes though, at that level 99% of the kids who don't want to be there have been weeded out. I tend to get along with almost everyone though, so my only problems have been gettin picked on back in elementary and middle school. Eh, life goes on, words may break your spirit, but I tend to not give a dern.
Nik, enjoy that freshman year man! I had a BLAST last year, my high school is OLDDDD (some of the campus was built in the 50's), but the campus is awesome. It's so much more freedom than middle school, I loved it. Enjoy high school man, it's one heck of a ride.

Tonight's project w**k went very well. We got the stage platforms dismantled and disposed of (except for a small part because the saw blade got bent, so it ended burning the wood rather than actually cutting it...) and the entire area thoroughly cleaned. The next day is on the 16th, so I'll have a while off.
TSF, ah, linear programming. Don't even bother asking me if I remember that from Algebra 2.
TSF and Sawyer, I found proofs impossible. Our geometry teacher could not teach for his life (and was subsequently fired after being there for only one year...)
Nik, freshman year. Way different from eighth grade. It's good for the first couple months, then it wears off. You're at the bottom of the food chain, your classes are horrible because you only have one elective, and some teachers will go out of their way to hate you, just cause you're a freshman.
Well, I gotta go cause I need to get up early (8:30-9ish) tomorrow to head down to TCNJ at 10ish. I probably won't be in tomorrow, so I'll see you guys Sunday!

The only cell phone that even remotely captures my attention is a old 2000 model phone. By today's standards, it is a brick, but the outside looks cool.

I had just started to upgrade from VHS to DVD. I guess the gist is the same though. GPS. Don’t have one. And of course, the text one. I don’t text. It was a running joke a few years ago when we’d be sitting uptown counting cars we didn’t know and someone would stop and ask how to get to some town. They would many times have a stack of papers in their hands. I’d say “Let me guess, Mapquest.” They’d say yes and I’d laugh and tell them the easiest and less confusing way to get where they were going if I knew. As far as the high school students one. The jury is still out on that, but lets put it this way, my last year in high school my favorite show was The Dukes of Hazzard. I shall not tell how often I found that a ’67 Buick Wildcat was NOT the General Lee. Hearing. Well lets just say M16’s and air impacts and diesel engines have made it so if I don’t acknowledge what you say, don’t count on me hearing you. Any background noise is enough to make me not hear you. It was a running joke a few years ago when we’d be sitting uptown counting cars we didn’t know and someone would stop and ask how to get to some town. They would many times have a stack of papers in their hands. I’d say “Let me guess, Mapquest.” They’d say yes and I’d laugh and tell them the easiest and less confusing way to get where they were going if I knew.
As far as the high school students one. The jury is still out on that, but lets put it this way, my last year in high school my favorite show was The Dukes of Hazzard. I shall not tell how often I found that a ’67 Buick Wildcat was NOT the General Lee.
Hearing. Well lets just say M16’s and air impacts and diesel engines have made it so if I don’t acknowledge what you say, don’t count on me hearing you. Any background noise is enough to make me not hear you. Some times I just pull a Willie Nelson and hope for the best.
Sarcasm. Yes, whole heartedly. I have a very dry sense of humor and full of, among something else usually flushed down the commode, sarcsm. Many times if you don’t know me you don’t realize I’m not serious.
