 Good morning.  Another cool/rainy/windy day.

Well my plan today is to clean the house some.  I have to take Jessica to get a MRI tomorrow, and maybe do some shopping.   So....I have to get the cleaning done today.

Went by a LHS yesterday, and the lady worker gave me a free boxcar.  It was missing one truck thou.   I will have to see if I can find one.

Hope everybody has a good morning.

Good morning guys!

WEll, well, well!!! Oh goody! UGH UGH!!!

The Town of Vestal held a quiet little town meeting at which was discussed a -not "a" but rather "THE" - new Natural Gas Metering Station on Owego Road {WE live off Owego Rd/Old Owego Rd it's about 2.5 miles long}. It will be an affair to meter the nat gas they derive from fricken "Fracking" up in the hills behind us.{ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hydraulic_fracturing      - though it sounds innocuous enough in description here but in real life contaiminates the environment by careless companies though some people would disagree}.  While we asssumed land behind us would be candidates for drilling and probably have nat gas leases, it is now confirmed and we will have a nat gas metering station in our midst!!!! I have long feared that since this is not a full park {rented to it's potental} that the park could get a lease and boot us all out of here.  NO wonder the houses across the street from the area they are clearing trees {for the nat gas metering station} from are for sale!!!!. Of course they want $120K for those houses which are 3br/1ba ranches with garages now worth....maybe $20K ....with the possibility of a nat gas leak/explosion right across the street!!!!

They could drill even up Ray's way! He's had articles in his local paper about it, though his area is at the edge of the Marcellus SHale deposit from which they want all natural gas to flow. As I have said before we love our nat gas heat and hot water, but this method of aquiring it is in serious question. Oh, and the company building the nat gas metering station will gladly plant 25 trees around the station to try and "cover it up" so it is "less noticeable" to the community.

Meanwhile property values have risen here for two fold reason: one} the value of an acre has gone up due to the gas leases making an acre higher in value 2} Nat gas companies move their people in to the areas in which they drill and many buy up property or are willing for the companies to pay exhorbitant rents to rent space for their employees. This was a quiet little area of te country with stable prices, but not no more!

SoapBox  over. SOrry for such a thing asa  rant so early in the morning.

Well have blood work and shopping this AM. I think I will treat myself to breakfast out after blood work before shopping. I like to shop early in the AM as fewer people at my WallyWorld and I can get in and get out and actually park close to the store! MAybe I skip breakfast out, and find something nice a WW to satiate me. The blood work is for regular physical and for the gen. surgeon for the biopsy on the 25th surgical proceedure.

My anxiety disorder causes me some agoraphobia issues around lots of people in the stores. So I have taken to shopping early in the day.

Happy B-Day belated to ROb! he said he had one on the 7th!

Have a great day!

Good evening. Dr Pepper please.

Ray- I'm glad getting the mouse was a...........snap. Sorry. LaughCouldn't resist.

Galaxy- Oh yeah, I understood you. I was just being silly. I know all about the differences in insurance evn within the same company. After the tornado here some had nothing but praise for their insurance others, well, can't be repeated. Even had the same insurance companies and the division was there.

Jeff- Sorry, but on the good old tuff 318, so are the rocker assemblies. They have a shaft and stamped metal rocker arms . No adjustment. Good news though, generally they will rattle for years before, well, it's a 318 so maybe just maybe, not much other than a noise. That's one go forever engine.  Are you sure it's rockers and not timing? Second thought, you probably are.

Well bedtime for bonzo. PFTIN.

Decaf coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

Hope everyone has been doing well.

Have done a little work on the wife's HO layout and she finally made it into the train room and heard her steam loco sounds for the first time. She really liked that.Big Smile

Had a birthday on the 7th. Wife treated me to a Rush concert, which we both enjoyed. (I wore ear plugs to save my hearing) Bought myself a new handgun. That about covers the yearly event.

Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Went to town today and got a Haynes manual on Dodge V8's with particular emphasis on the 318. The section I'm interested in has to do with adjusting the rocker arms so they don't clatter.

The appearance of the layout isn't rain, sleet nor even snow. I found out the hard way some years ago to let wall joint compound dry a good long time before putting a thin coat of plaster over it to fill the cracks.

Afternoon all.

Ah, Halloween. I won't be enjoying it this year (whether I want to or not) because I'm getting my wisdom teeth out on the 29th! Yaaaaaayyyyyyy....
Even if I wanted to, I probably won't feel like leaving the house then. So I'll just buy some candy once they throw it on clearance a few days later...

We have the excellence assembly tomorrow. I'm getting some kind of an award, I just don't know what yet.
So we're missing periods one-three. Spanish (whatever), English (yay!), and history (again, whatever).

Well, I better get started on homework, so I'll be chilling in the back.

Galaxy, that's what we've always done. We used to just go stay at a hotel with an indoor heated pool and go swimming, but that got too expensive a while ago. then we went out. now we just stay at home with the porch light off. I think everyone knows that we dnt do trick-or-treating, since we moved in we never handed out candy. And anybody new sees the porchlight off

Packer

Todd and Galaxy, Those low rates have me a bit envoius. I'm paying close to $90/month just for liabilty on my Mustang (okay vinnie, $88.60). Then again, I am a male under 25 witha red 2-door "sports (I wouldn't call the 2.3L a "sports" engine) car." It's been enough to make me consider getting an older LTD or a Mark 7 or 8 just to save. But then I'd probably lose that savigs on gas with any of those due to them having autos...

Robby and Galaxy, I'm skipping giving out candy this year as well. The niegborhood kids are always taking shortcuts through the yard (still trying to grow the grass in some spots) and yelling. The latter gets annoying when trying to drill those holes for grab irons.Blindfold

Be glad you only pay $88.60/month or only $1063.20 a year for your "sports car" and age! that is real good rates! I know many under 25 around here compain about amounts 2 or 3 times that rate, then again they may have collision on it as they probably have loans out to finance their "rides".

As far as halloween, as I said I got tired of it by age 8. I used to pass out candy. But I really look at it this way: people bring their kids to my house trespassing to extort from me with a promise of criminal mischief vandalism if I don't cough up the goods... if an adult did the same to me they'd be serving time in jail! Around here the last two years the news media warned that parents should be with their kids and NOT go to any unlit or darkened homes. SMART! so we either leave or turn off the outside automatic light, lock the outside porch door and watch TV in the dark for the bewitching hours. The year before we had only a few kids, last year none {we were dark} and this year hope for none as we won't be lit agian either.

Did  a weather check. 47* and chilly and Storm. THe nor'easter has definitely begun. it is Storm all across the "mid central upstate NY area" from Ray's on down to Galaxy's. Bring your Umbrella and come into the diner for your hot mulled cider!

Joe, it's probably the plan. I took the PSAT in eighth grade, I figured why bother this year, I'll just do it next year.

Morgan, sounds like the roulette of teachers we ahd last year. started the year with one teacher who couldn't teach worth crap and couldn't control the class, to many subs, to a long term sub, to a good teacher for a month.

Robby (and Galaxy), a time table?! sheesh. usually you can see parked cars lining the streets here. We don't participate (last time I went trick-or-treating I was 4). Instead we buy candy, maybe pizza, and watch a movie. This year it's looking like the fall festival at my church on the 30th, then on the 31st I'll be watching TALLADEGA, but that night we'll have pizza, some candy, and a rented movie haha. Getting into why we dnt celebrate Halloween would be breaking the rules on the forum though...

well, nothing really for today, helped with SAMS recycling earlier.

Good afternoon!

On Trick or Treating: Every Halloween, Mom and a bunch of other HAM operators piled together, put on their shiney lights, and assit the Police. They call it "Goblin Patorl, and have proved handy when a kid takes off, or catching someone with a little more Toilet Paper than one hosehold needs, keeping an eye on the cemetary, or even blocking traffic for a horde fo liddle wuns trying to cross. It's fun! And even new parents who ask what we're doing remark that it's a gret idea. (We're a small twon with 3 police cars on a good day).

Well, not THIS year. We got a new Marshal, and when Mom wnet to make her introductions, he half-cracked a smile and said "Thank you, that's nice..." It's 2 weeks to Halloween, we've got neary a phone call asking. I worry about what TorT will be like this year with half it's community watch gone...

Good Afternoon All,

Taking a break to return some phone calls and the like. Don't like the good hands people G. It really depends on haw good an agent you have, but we're still fightin em two and a half years after the house fire. Turns out they don't cover code upgrades unless you have a rider for that specifically, we had the rider for  full replacement value of our contents but they impose a limit on the amount, etc., As you said, your coverage and amounts may  vary (and a lot depends on how your state insurance commission looks out for you) and after all that - good luck to you.

Jeff, we'll gladly send you some of our rain - just send a couple of tank cars.  If it wasn't La I'd say the new layout  looks like it had an early snow.

Ray - hope tom and jerry don't make it down to the layout. I can just see them joy riding in the locomotives!                            CUL,    J.R.

Hey guys

All the talk about rain has me looking up at the yet again clear sky. It rained for a little bit tuesday, and that has been all that we've had for this month.

Ray, 1 down, probably a bunch more to go. Last year I got one my stepping on his tail when I had a brick in my hand. Smashed it's skull with the brick.

Robby and Galaxy, I'm skipping giving out candy this year as well. The niegborhood kids are always taking shortcuts through the yard (still trying to grow the grass in some spots) and yelling. The latter gets annoying when trying to drill those holes for grab irons.Blindfold

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Good Evening,

it is already a pitch-black night outside - we had so much of the wet stuff I was wondering how I could send a bucket full of it to Jeff.

Flo, a last coffee before I will call it a day, thank you.

I am a bit in a sour mood. Working on that plan for my friend made me fall in love with it - it could easily be adapted to fit my room. There is absolutely no way of financing that venue, which makes me so sad. I guess I´d better move all my remaining MRR stuff into the attic and out of my sight. Probably have to give up coming to the Diner as well. It is starting to hurt a lot....Crying

Ray - I pity the pour Mousie! I hope you paid your due respect at the funeral.

Jeff - I was thinking you were going for a snow scenery Whistling - must be my failing eyesight!

Bye for today!

TMarsh

Galaxy- It must have a lot to do with areas. I am a long time State Farm-er and have checked around, no one can beat them. For me in my area of course. Everyone and their areas is different even within the same company. I Have everything insured with State Farm and they insure, as a package, my house (1800 sq ft with full basement built back in 95) for $200 a year and full coverage on Brenda’s car (a ‘99 Chrysler) for $50 and my truck (‘94 Dodge) they insure full coverage for free. Oh and my Roadrunner for $8.00. I can’t find a better deal.

I think you misunderstood me. I said we will SAVE $200/yr on my Kia and SAVE $70/yr on the caravan. We will PAY $500/yr on my Kia, we will PAY $ 260/yr on the caravan, and we will PAY $291/yr on the homowners for a total of $1,051 per year..for ALL insurance needs....about a TOTAL of $125/yr CHEAPER than our TOTAL insurance bill is NOW.{$1176}.   WE used to PAY only $141/yr for homeowners, but it is now $291, but what we SAVE on the vehicles makes up for that AND gives us total annual savings of $125 AND gives us better homeowners coverage on replacement and doubles our contents coverage and increases liability...

And I pay $35/month for my Roadrunner. Just what Time Warner Cable wants. Whether I like it or not. Every darn month.

Naturally, your rates may vary depending on your state, your area, your driving record, age, number of miles driven, number of drivers and ages, safe driver courses taken, discounts given, vehicle ages, home age, home size, cost to replace, number of past claims, amounts of coverage, etc.

You don't have to beat my rates, just pay what you need for you area and coverage! Yes.Cool

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooood Morning. Bucket of coffee please.

GALAXY: WE don't "do" Halloween either. Rerun just wouldn't be able to handle all the local kids banging on his door, running by his house, making noise in his street, being in his yard; etc. Sooooooooooooo, we load-up the Fuzzy Boy and head out of town for "Boo Burgers."

Yup, we take the dog out for a hamburger.

I'll sit-out the language discussion this time...

Gots to be getting to w**k on this week's content for THAT Editor. I've got all the photos edited/processed...been putting-off the writing part. I'm not a procrastinator, I just haven't gotten around to it. I also have to dig through a year's worth of newspapers looking for contest entries. Seems the Iowa Newspaper Association moved up the deadline this year (to tomorrow). THAT Editor isn't so hot to trot for the contest this year.... the other reporter and I have no idea what to submit. I've got some stuff I like...but nothing (photos) THAT make a guy go "whoa! how did he get THAT shot?!?!?!" Seems THAT is what it takes to win.

Best get to it...it 'tain't writing/sorting/selecting itself...

This would be a perfect day for this job:

A CNW single-track operator with his OS board at the Cedar River Bridge. He gave Automatic Train Control (ATC) "tokens" to engineers so they could "cut-out" the ATC while running wrong-main through the single track limits. He also documented the passing of each train, and contacted the East Iowa Train Dispatcher ("CNW Boone East Dispatcher" at Boone, Iowa ) to tell him. Looked like a gravy job to this college class skipping kid...

A good, SAFE day to all...

Chris

Afternoon folks!

Just a refill for my coffee right at the moment Zoe.  Thanks.

I regret to inform all of you THAT there was a terrible accident last night in the train room....  My little house guest was about 3/4 the way through a tasty meal of peanut butter when he (or she.... I didn't check....) pushed a bit too hard on the lever and immediately suffered a severe head ache and broken neck which proved to be fatal. Crying Whistling  Critter has been properly disposed of, the trap rebaited and reset just in case any of his family or friends happen to be down there.  Last night I had just about fallen asleep with Manét cuddled by my side when he suddenly jumped up and looked around the room as if to say, "What was THAT!?"....  I bet THAT was when the event had transpired... Dead Smile, Wink & Grin

On to the local weather at the diner.  Currently it is at the high for the day, 53°F and we are just waiting for the Nor'easter to crank up around here.  Must be the Patriots have a home game again this coming Sunday....  A year ago was the major snow event in the North East.  This one looks to be mostly rain, at least in these parts.

Spent a few minutes w*rking o the project already this morning.  just waiting for some glue to dry to continue on.  Also have to drop a prescription off at the pharmacy, stop at church, and head out to my sister's house to feed the kitties.  Best be moving on I think.

(Door flies open. Vinnie tosses crumpled figure onto floor and the limp figure slides across floor crashing into the stool posts at the RC. Disheveled figure pulls himself to a standing position and straightens hair lightly then brushes off clothes and pulls pants down far enough to remove super duper atomic wedgie. Then clears throat and sheepishly begins to speak.)

Ahem. The prices I quoted for my insurance might not be accurate. (recieves glare from Vinnie who takes a threatening step forward) Ok, ok. They weren't even close. I just wanted to beat G's deal. But, I have been a long time State Farm customer and I really haven't found anyone who can beat their price for coverage for me. That's true. No I haven't checked with everyone, but the main few I have. I have had several claims with State Farm over the years and never had an issue or complaint.

(starts to leave but Vinnie, arms still crossed, steps sideways to block the door)

Oh. Sorry for the fib guys.  Won't happen again.

(Vinnie steps back to clear the door as I dash past and out the door. Sticking head back in adds...)

Til next time!!!!! (door slams as Vinnie shakes head)

Good morning. It's 62 and clear. The high will be 81 and it will be sunny.

Looks like today will be another dry day. The lake is down about 14 inches. WE NEED RAIN! As for layout work, nothing yet to report. Something else keeps coming up. We'll see what happens today. Picked up 2 more 1/2 pint mistinted cans of paint recently. The colors were supposed to be 'Root Beer' and 'Hearts Desire' but of course they aren't quite right. That's why they're mistints. Who am I to complain. They only cost me 50 cents each. Both are interior satin latex. They look like they'll be good trim colors for some structures.

Good morning.  Looks like all of us up north is in rain today,   Maybe some tomorrow.

Went over to my buddys house last night, and worked his layout some.  Its a good change when you can run someone elses layout.   Showed him my cars I've done for the show, and he was amazed.   Kinda makes me feel good.

Not much planned other than weathering some more cars.   The one I sold the other day on eBay.....Well I have to do another one like it.   With iy being a rust bucket, its taking a few days to do.

Galaxy......I think we are skipping "giving out candy" this year.  We had close to 300 kids last year, and I just don't wanna spend $20+ on candy.   We were told by the neighbors when we moved in that we get a lot of kids, and I thought they were joking.  Well they weren't!!!!  With the town being known as a rough town.....The nicer part of the town "my area", gets all of the kids.    So we might just skip this year.  Plus the towns around here have a time table on when the kids can go tick or treating.  Our time is 2:00 - 4:00.    They don't do night trick or treating.

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go please. My we've been prolific lately. I'll try to catch up at some point, but right now we're leaping around trying to get everything ready for tomorrow at Lime Rock. The rest of the crew save for the CFO, myself and two others are at Atlanta and we're now up to 8 cars to look after for the one here. Plus the other usual panics. Oh well, beats standing around idle.

 Catch y'all later,  J.R.

Good morning from NY!

posta be a Gift from mother Nature being "BRRR" and Storm and Lightning and needing Umbrella so we don't get sick an Dead. This Nor'eater RAINStorm STORMLightning as they are calling it is TG NOT a snow dumper! But flooding can occur in low lying areas and along flash flooding creeks and streams. So it won't be a piece of Cake but we may wish we were here:Paradise. Time will tell. When the Star come out at Sleep it means no clouds to hold heat in so "BRRR" around here in the Am.

WEll today we go pick up {and spend Sigh} my other half's paycheck. It's a very small one this week, unfortunatelyAngry. Next weeks will be better, and the following week too. GOod cuz we need the $$$.Geeked

Changing insurances all over to All State. I have Geico on my Kia, other half has State Farm on the caravan, and we both have homeowners with State farm. State Farm homeowners will only replace our 1983 trailer with another 1983 or as close to that as they can, not actual replacement cost which for a 3 BR 1Ba trailer is about $37-40K minimum around here without skirting and extras. All State will actual replacement cost up to $52K for a brand new trailer to replace what we have. IT will more than double our homeowners policy cost, but we will save $200/yr on my kia and $70/yr on the caravan so over all switching both vehicles AND the homeowners insurance over will mean a total annual savings of about $125 overall on all insurance needs WowAND we have higer/better coverage on the home. Beat that. It does pay to shop around sometimes.YesYeah

The kia's seat belt retractors don't retract very wellOops, and that is covered under warrantee, so next Wed. it goes in to get those replaced under bumper-to bumper warrantee. Gotta like it!Whistling

Stopped at the Cider Mill yesterday for Cider and doughnuts. It is just NOT as good as it used to be when we were kids and it was before the filtering out the "goodies" {solid parts} laws and pasteurization laws. It tasted more like McIntosh Apple juice and so expensive! Freshly made on site or not, It wasn't worth it over the cheaper stuff in the grocery stores or Wally World. The doughnuts were OK, but at $1 a piece for a doughnut....even a HALF a pie was nearly $7...a whole pie can be had at the grocery store for that!Super Angry

WE don't do halloween anymore and it is coming up. I lost interest in halloween by the time I was 8 and don't have patience with children and don't think they look "cute" in costumes. Unfortunately a family with 7 kids moved into the trailer across the street and they have other visiting cousins frequently and the 2 next door are geting older and they will all want to come banging on our darkened doorway begging for candy or threatening an act of violence perpetrated towards us if they dont get the required extortion payment. Last year the news media pointed out NOT to go to dark places, only inviting places that had lots of lights on. SO maybe the darkness will give them a hint this year. We rarely speak to them as we hate their kids who are forever playing in the road when we need to drive on it and are defiant little "imps" {substitute another word} about getting out of the road unless we honk horn and daddy, mommy or grandma {who all live there too!} comes to the door to yell at them. I think it's a "yours, mine and ours" kid situation. I missed the opportunity to tell g-ma at the mail boxes the other day that we don't do halloween so not to bother coming to our door. My other half used to be into it and used to handle the kids at the door thing, but now is no longer into it at all either. WE sometimes even go out and are nto at home between 6-9 pm. I know, we are "humbug-ers" Super Angryon all the bosh that is halloween. Pumpkin pie is the only good thing to come out about halloween.....mmmmmm.SoapBox

WEll, should get some coffee going and get teh day started....

Good Morning,

I am running a little late today. I finally found some sleep at 4.30 am this morning. I am also getting a litte weary of not being able to sleep at night Sigh

We are back to our normal fall (foul) weather, with overcast skies and plenty of that wet stuff coming down - yucch!

Janie, make that a bucket of coffee for me please, and some buttered toast with jam to go with it. Thanks, dear.

I followed last night´s discussion with a chuckle. Within a few hours of driving from my hometown, I could move from Danish to German, Polish, Dutch and French - sorry, no English, Spanish or Italian - that takes a little longer. Speaking at least one foreign language  is an absolute necessity in this region.

Nevertheless, I agree, that one should be able to speak in the tongue of the country one is living in. And, unless there is a history of having more than one language - like in Canada, Belgium, Italy and Switzerland, a nation should only have one "official" language. Having a common language is the bond which unites a group of people to form a nation.

As Germany has turned more and more into a melting pot, we are starting to have language issues here as well. More than 20 % of our population has a non-German background, out of which the Turkish form the largest group. In Berlin, Hamburg and some other bigger cities, you will find quarters, where you hardly hear a word of German spoken. When Petra was still into teaching, she had classes with 10 or more different nationalities, Germans being the minority. How to teach someone, who does not understand your language?

No, Janie, you don´t have to bring the soap box, this is not meat to be either a rant or a political statement, just facts.

Nothing specific planned for the day - just the usual grocery run to replenish or food stocks, a short HD least. I probably will do some day dreaming about layouts I might be able to build, once our situation improves.

Y´all have a good one!
