Jeffrey! you're throwing stuff out!?!?

SAY it isn't so!

QUICK! read the thread "model RR's never throw anything out"!!!!!!

Vinnie! you tell him!

Whew! I think that was a close call!

This is stuff that's been laying around for years and was free junk I got in the mail. Almost all of it has been chopped up over time for use on kits and such. The stuff going out is the little useless bits and pieces. Some of it will be used for fill on holes in the layout surface when I pour plaster into them.

Hey guys.

Since the work incident I've been adapting to not using the finger. Been using the left hand more, and using the middle finger for what I normally would use the work finger for.

Been kind of busy today. Went to the junkyard and got some little electrical pieces, a door, and a side skirt for the new car. The reason for getting the skirt is because they are plastic and the one on the car has a tear in it. The door has a wierd dent in it and I figured it might be easier to switch doors rather than try to fix that dent. Of course getting the door off from a car that is sitting on the ground with nothing under it (no wheels were on it) was a bit tricky; and trying to do everything left-handed made it even more fun.

Ken, it's doing alright. It's still a bit sore and kind of numb in a few spots, but it quit bleeding.

By the way, Ken, I have one of those racks in NP. They are pretty nice but loading them could be expensive. Wal-mart use to have a bunch of 1:87 vehicles for a dollar a piece. I have enough of those $1 '69 Z28 camaros to fill a rack; but they come with the tops and windows down, and don't really belong on racks in my 77-87 timeframe. Unfortunately, I think Model power got those molds and jacked the price up to $3; wish I would have boughten more of those firebirds and chevy pick-ups when they still had them as they were mid 70's types.. Motor max cars cost about 3-4 each and are common. I'm trying to finds out if there is an 80's ford pick-up in HO as that's what the NP racks seemed to carry most often.

Jim, Where have you been, good to see you again. Feels like just a scrape on the thumb. The index finger was the one that got messed up. I don't know if workers comp would cover it though.

Chris, IIRC, the company policy is to file a report if the person has to be sent home or to the doctors. I was never given an option to get it checked out. A co-worker had to go to the doctor's office when they cut themselves using the same onion slicer, so maybe that one could be used to get OSHA in. I don't know if there is a "complaint line" for the company, but I'll try to find out. I just hope complaining or even trying to find out if there is a complaint line won't cost me my job.

Jeff, you could make frieght car pieces scrap loads for gondolas.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evenin' folks!

Flo just decaf for me I guess.

Hey, cool!  Look at all this STUFF somebody threw out in the trash can........  Why a lot of these things could be used for, ah......  well......  Hmmmm.... Let me see?  I lknow they could be used as fill on the layout where you would then use less plaster.....  Huh?  Oh Jeffrey already thought of THAT.  Well good.  hate to see things go to waste!

I spent some serious time down stairs with the trains today.  Trackwork is finished (still needs to be ballasted, painted, and have railbars added, but THAT will come after all the main stuff has been finished.  Extras like THAt (and even staining the ties) is only 10 points out of the 125 total.  still it could be the difference between getting the Merit Award and not getting the Merit Award....  Also did most of the basic wiring on the underside.  Track feeders, feeders to the frogs, etc.  I put a few new photos over in the WPF thread tonight.  Here is one of what I got done...

By tomorrow evening, I better have the turnout throws from Humpyard Purveyance figured out and installed!  I still have to do a lot of of the paper work for the award and get everything finished for the Meet......  Yikes!

 Mourning New York

Flo, English Muffin and coffee please.

Not sure what kind of day we have going here yet. It is 7:15 and the sun is not coming through the windows yet.

Vincent, I have not ran a restaurant for 25 years now. But when I did we had to wear chain link gloves when we ran the meat slicer. I am 90% sure it was required by OSHA but won't swear to it.

Did you all ready get the door for the Mustang? Remember I was in the Auto Body Business for 20 years. If the dent is in the center, you might be better off to change the door. If the reinforcement bar is bent, more trouble than it is worth. If you want to post some pictures I be happy to take a look.

Throwing Stuff away My theory is if you don't remember you have it, you don't need it. Sue did moan a little but not that much. I think she might be a little tired of all the clutter as well. She knows I am more than willing to throw stuff out, she even complained when I throw my own stuff away. Now, I don't throw away train stuff, I give it away to Simon 1966 (member of he site) boys and some of the folks on the site I will never meet faces to faces.

Train Front Well I might meet another member of the site. Jim had asked in the DCC Section about the Bachmann E-Z Command. I still have mine and turns out he only lives 30 minutes away. He sent me his number and I will call later today and see when he would like to drop by.

Here comes the Sun, it going to be another pretty day.

Good Morning! Fried eggs, hash browns and salsa please. Dark roast coffee also. I kinda like the stuff.

Boy! I don’t mean to rub it in, but I slept like a log last night. Went to bed early, about 10 pm, and didn’t wake until 8am at the dogs request. Like most here for some reason I haven’t slept well for a while. But last night…. Ready to tackle the house .

After the shock wore off, I realized if Jeff threw it away, it is junk.

Jim- Glad it’s work and not something else that’s kept you away.Huh? I guess you know what I mean. Will be looking forward to your weekly (?) posts and hoping things slow so you can get back in more often.

Chris- Trainroom looks pretty goodYes. Looking forward to more progress shots as you get time. I think once I get a chance I will continue with the bench work to make a loop. I’m a roundy round guy and this fords and backerds stuff will drive me nuts. ( no offense to those who like it)

Did I say……..RANGERS WIN!!!!

Ken- Here’s my theory on vehicle size. Your layout, if you like it, it’s great. Me, If it isn’t obviously huge or small it’s fine. Placement of these vehicles means everything. By themselves or grouped not too close to something scale determining, they’d be fine. On or near something obviously scale, like another vehicle or as you said, on a railcar, I’d probably pass on, or move said vehicle. That’s me though. Like I said everyones layout is their world and they are king. I do like your choices in carsCool. My SIL once said about the boxes of shtuff in the storage room in the basement, if you haven’t been in a box in a year, throw it away without looking inside. Now, I don’t agree with that not looking inside part, but I agree with the idea. She says if you know what’s in there then you’ll find a reason to keep it for another 400 yearsWhistling.

Today is a sad, sad day for the town of Williamsville. Lawrence “Burr” McVickers passed away the other evening at the young age of 77. It was a total shock too all. He had an Aortic Anurism (sp?). The funeral and visitation are this afternoon. Burr was a good friend to everyone he met. He did so much for the elderly and the village right up to the day he went into the hospital. His wife Margie is a complete and total angel and no one who has ever met her has said less. In fact no one who has met either have ever said anything but praises for either. She is doing well so far. I don’t know what she’ll do without Burr. 55 years is a long time and they were quite the pair. Like Johnny and June. Beautiful day out there, the Lord is smiling. Must have been Burr’s time.

Hm, the storage room is next to the train room. It’s not that big, but empty I could take the wall out and…….. I’ve gotta get going before I do something I’ll regret. I don’t have time for the space I do have.

Y’all have a Great Day now ya hear?!!!

Good Sunday morning folks:  Rain storm of the last days has passed leaving us with just plain damp and miserable weather.  Wish we could have diverted it down to Jeff's neck of the woods.  Too many pages to catch up on with comments, so I'll just say that on Elliot and the Trackside Diner history, Flip and RT have been scouting out some background. Very glad to report that Big_Boy 4005 was seen out and about a couple of months ago, so health issues seem OK. Here's a link to the first page of the original Coffee Shop, from which the Trackside Diner has sprung.  (I know Jeff  and maybe CapeJim have seen this already)

http://cs.trains.com/TRCCS/forums/t/15409.aspx?PageIndex=1

To quote him from that page (scroll down, you'll find it...)

Keep in mind guys, I didn't come up with the concept here, a guy by the name of ChiefEagles brought the concept to CTT. I just picked it up and brought it here.Wink

By the way, Big Girl bought a coffee pot a few weeks ago, it's sitting on the counter. She didn't empty it out, and now there is stuff growing in it. YUCK.DeadStick out tongueLaughLaughLaugh

Personally I don't drink coffee, I get my caffine from cola, but I like the smell and the flavor, just not the drink itself. Go figure.Smile, Wink & Grin

Flip says  that Big_Boy married Big_Girl a while back Thumbs Up

Chris:

I've even thought about just putting the foam on, without a plywood base.
...I'd advise against that, not from a structural point of view, but because unsupported foam board (at least the 1" I've used) acts as a speaker diaphragm - amplifying the sound of trains in an annoying way!  2" foam perhaps would behave differently - but I'm sounding a note of caution. My 2 Cents

Rob: Do you want to shoot me through the photos of feed bins for your wife's chicken set up? I can't start the project without them and have it turn out halfways the way she'd like it.

Ken:

Throwing Stuff away My theory is if you don't remember you have it, you don't need it.
... Regrettably true!...but if we followed  THAT we likely wouldn't be able to justify the space we take for our train rooms. Smile, Wink & Grin

I'm in a sort of conversation over on the Yahoo Groups ndcc email thing with a mrr in the UK about the Atlas Trainman GP15-1 and its slow speed characteristics.  I'm hoping he's going to teach me about speed tables. I made a video clip for him of my pair consisted but running separated to show how slow they go on Step 1 of 128 - but how they are not speed matched. CV 02 =01 in both, and I don't know how to get them both to move at the same speed.WARNING this does not open in a New Window, although set to do so Black Eye so don't close it, but go back in your browser, or you'll close out your visit tot he Diner. http://s3.photobucket.com/albums/y51/der5997/MT%20Videos/?action=view&current=GP15-1s.mp4  Sorry about the focus - my Kodak C330 doesn't seem to have any adjustment for video focus (or duh!, do I just stand further back and use the zoom?)

I'll take a JR Regular to the back booth and think about that....TTFN

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, I think I will have the French Toast, a side order of Bacon, a glass of Ed's OJ, and lots of  Dark Roast Coffee in my R&GV RR Mug.

Todd!  So you're the one who took the museum's chain saw......  They have been looking all over for it.  A couple guys are right in the middle getting the Winter Wood Pile all set, and are in need of it.  I am glad it helped you cut some Zzz last night.

Well I have to get to w*rk on the the turnout controls and finish getting everything wired up...

Later!

Good morning. It's 71 and sunny. The high will be 87.

I've got the drill, wire stripper and wire snips ready. Just have to get some boxes of track of rolling stock sorted then I can get to work on the layout wiring. I also have to take care of some wiring in my van. Seems that when the ignition switch is on the turn signals and wipers won't work. Trouble shooting indicates that the ignition contacts responsible for that are worn out. So later I'll be doing some rewiring in the fuse box to get power to the turn signals and wipers full time. Now this doesn't mean that they'll be on all the time. It simply means that the supply lines for them will be powered full time. They'll work just as before except they'll also be able to work when the key is turned off.

I am SO NOT A happy camper!!!!!!!!!

WE went to Oswego NY on Lake Ontario yesterday and back for the funeral. I suppose we are lucky we got back ok.

I went out to go gas up the Kia Sedona  van for gas  sale day. I pull out of driveway at a slow pace {teh durn children from across the street playing near the road} and coast around a sharp 90 curve there then give it some gas, and low and behold it doesn't go any faster than an idle...I look down and see I am in the proper gear and give it some more gas, but it won't go and then I see it...off to the far left...glaring at me...mocking my efforts....the "check Engine" light is on!!!!! I give it gas to the floor and still it crawls only. TGoodness that I live on a circled road so I could limp it back home around the circle and park it in the driveway.

Now mind you, it is only an 06 and only has 49K miles on it! It is still under warrantee until next June or 60K miles whichever comes first! I will have to have it towed {I hope at Matthew's Kia's expense} to Matthews Kia to see what is wrong with it now!!!!

It is not making Kia endear itself to me very well at the moment. FIrst the steering hose goes [under warrantee}, then the seat belt retractors are to be replaced {under warrantee} on Tuesday anyway. Now this???

I have a train nut friend who has a 4 cylinder Kia car with over 100K on it that gave him some grief at about 110K but that can kinda be expected as he didn't even have it tuned up, and at 100K some things wear out. Just like the caravan being 10 yrs old and original equipment things wearing out on it.

BUT NOT my  "new" Kia! with so few miles to have a major {and something tells me it's a major deal} break down already???!!!

I am NOT a HAPPY CAMPER! ANd GIl at Matthew's Kia will hear it tomorrow bright and early at 7 am when they open! I will make them tow it {as I can"t drive it there at 10 MPH max speed down a  4 laner with a 50MPH spped zone to get there}.

Whew! now I got some of that off my chest. SoapBox

Thanks for letting me bend your ears for a moment!

Evening New York

Flo, Big Pitcher Beer and a frosted Monon Mug please.

Sue Ann 1 Cuda Ken 0 Today I steeped in to the Kitchen and saw Sue unpacking a box? Hum I go and asked her what she was doing. "Unpacking glassware" was the answer. Then I saw some unpacked boxes in the hallway? Ah Sue, where did those boxes come from? " They had dishes and stuff in them". Where have you been storing them I asked. "In the spare bedroom" was the answer.

Went to the back bedroom and my mouth fell openIndifferent Sue I asked, where is the bed? "I need the room, so I gave it to Good Will a few years ago" was the answer. I am screwed, did not know she had a back up supply of JUNK. Bang Head

Please Lord give me a break.

Todd I agree with you 100 percent on the cars. When the 1/64th scale cars are beside HO people, fright cars or buildings they look fine to me. But on the Auto Rack they look to big. If you look for my posting on the main page about Auto Rack's and turns a member posted a picture of the same style Auto Rack full of 1970 Cuda's that are HO scale. That was the look I was hopping for. More than likely I will return the Auto Rack. It does not like my turn sizes, I know I could make it work with some effort. But still look silly going around a 26 inch turn so why bother.

 See you are Monday, Ken

Good Afternoon (or is it Evening?), Janie - I'll have a bowl of chili with some grated cheddar on top and a couple packages of those oyster crackers and a RBF to wash it down, please. Thanks!

TMarsh
Jim- Glad it’s work and not something else that’s kept you away.Huh? I guess you know what I mean. Will be looking forward to your weekly (?) posts and hoping things slow so you can get back in more often.

Chris- Trainroom looks pretty goodYes. Looking forward to more progress shots as you get time. I think once I get a chance I will continue with the bench work to make a loop. I’m a roundy round guy and this fords and backerds stuff will drive me nuts. ( no offense to those who like it)

Ditto to you Chris - on what Todd said. I'd love to have THAT much room to fiddle around with. Smile And I like both the (as the King of his Universe calls it) 'roundy round' at times, as well as the switching. Guess I want to have both bases covered, eh?

Todd, I wish it were just w**k that's been getting in the way. There's also some decluttering, and also trying to trim down my own chassis (lower my cholesterol and my blood sugar levels, etc.) before I have to start on some various pill$. If I can do that by watching a bit more about what stuff I'm eating, I can live with that... (pun intended). Whistling

Speaking of de-cluttering (and tossing stuff out), I should warn some of you about Kalmbach's back issues sale (guess they're cleaning house?) - 30 percent off back issues, and free shipping on back issues of MR, now through Oct. 28th. And no, I get no commission on that shamelss plug, nor do I w**k for them. Actually, I'll be looking through my current MR collections to see if there are any years where I'm only missing a couple or so issues. (More than that, and I will hope to find them at train shows (preferably discounted to sell, in the last few hours of the show...). But if I have just a few issues, this could be pretty good, since it's no shipping. Every so often, I will go through some issues and find assorted articles that are starting points for projects (structures, detailing, etc.). Besides, those two cartons of (foldable) cardboard magazine holders that I got a bit back included a few spare ones more than the full years I had...

Ray, that module with the tracks looks pretty interesting (and impressive, with all that hand-laid track there)! Thumbs Up Are you on schedule with where you need to be for your completion deadline? I'm guessing there's some industry or freight depot on that siding (about top-middle in your photo), right?

Robby - whatcha been up to lately - any weathering projects? And email me - I forgot/missed how your train show testing of the waters went. Okay, hopefully?

Jeff, hope you get feeling better enough to get to the rewiring on your layout, so you can move toward being able to run trains before too much longer. (After you get them to haul off that king-sized dumpster I hear you've had outside of your trailer lately...WinkWhistling). And is that a seasonal paint job on that L&A F-unit? Spooky...Smile, Wink & Grin

CudaKen, best wishes on the auto door re-do, and hope you have few to none in the way of glitches. Yeah Liked your idea of 'recycling' MRR stuff - I had spotted some MRR books in the bargain bin at Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago, marked down pretty cheap (including the Dave Frary scenery book - latest edition), so I scarfed them up, and will be passing them along to another MRRer in my area whose slim pockets are keeping him from moving at the rate he would like. I figure at a minimum, he'll have some inspiration for planning his next steps for his layout. I've been on the receiving end at times from other MRRers, so definitely why not pass it along?

DerJohn - I get a "security error" - 2048 or something when I tried to view the video. Tried turning on permissions (all the ones I'd think affected it), but still no go. Sigh Hope you get the DCC fine-tuned to w**k for you.

Galaxy, I kinda like CudaKen's suggestion (Ouch! I was just kiddin' ya), but hope the dealer does you right and gets your car straightened out with the problems. Not a good start, sounds like.

Ken, I just saw your photos of Sue Ann's 'spare room'... You are SO out of luck, man! You may want to have them send that industrial size dumpster (the roll-off kind?) by your place after Jeff gets done with it. I don't feel so bad about my apartment's clutter now. Thanks! Wink

Haven't got much on the MRR front done this weekend, except thinking about some smaller projects for the layout I could do, and sending an order to the local LHS owner this afternoon (mostly detail stuff, some trees, and some J.L Innovative signs for buildings). Need to get back home and attempt to start tackling the chaos that is the dining room table (aka MRR w**kbench).

Now that I've finished my chili and am all 'gassed up,' I'll be leaving. Whistling Prayers for the (other) MIA Diners, and for healing, comfort and sleep for those in need of that, as well.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau (where the leaves are starting to change colors/colours)

HEY Jeff- WHERE DID YOU FIND THAT PICTURE of my ex.??

Well, guess I did my good deed for the week. Got in touch with Ed,the Answerman,Murphy and RT.  They, not me had the answers to the origins of The Diner.  John asked me if I knew, but I didn't. Knew who to ask and now you have the rest of the story.

Blessings and prayers for all

I had a good laugh today. Some young guy told me that I would have to hook my van up to a computer to find out how close the timing is set. I raised the hood and asked him to show me where knowing dang well there was no way he was going to find a connection port. He stood there looking for one and scratching his head and wondering where it was and it was all I could do to keep a straight face. I finally told him there's no computer to connect anything to, just a coil firing module. To check the timing you have to a good old fashion timing light. He still couldn't wrap his head around it. What have computers done to our young people?

Decaf coffee in a  UNION PACIFIC  mug, please.

***Jeffrey, love the witch on the loco. Cool!

***Der, sorry, I thought you had those from long ago. Will work on sending them in the next couple days. Thank You!

Forgot I had water running from the barn tank the other evening and lost 1/3 a tank worth.Dunce It's getting drought like here so I've got to be more careful. Transfered a bunch from the house tank to refill the barn tank. I use the latter every other day for horses.

Hope y'all are doing well. Cheers! Cowboy Rob

Good late evening people: Just a green tea for me please Chloe, thanks.

CapeJim: Don't know why the link didn't work - except that it was in a locked album. I've now cut a key (CapeJim) if you need it.  Other than that, I'll PM you with the url again and see if it behaves any better. I am getting much better results with my previously reluctant locs, having gone to Wikipedia and looked at their Speed Tables write up. http://www.dccwiki.com/Speed_Table...and chased down a few links in there. The video isn't that exciting, so may not be worth the bother anyway.Hmm

Rob:  You did indeed send those ages ago, but since then my hard drive was wiped, and I lost them.

I think I'm going to see if what I now know about programming for better slow running can be made to work on my Kato  RDCs.  So, I'll say goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Employment and Peace.Angel

Hey guys

*looks in trash can and wonders if any of the stuff is useful for parts*

Been busy today taking some parts off of the 1990 LX, mainly the aluminum driveshaft and the wheels. Already got the wheels and tires from the 90. already on the 1994 GT, but I didn't torque them since I'll be switching rear ends and front spindles after the 90 is out of the car port. Also pulled the axles 4-lug axles out of a 2.73 rear end so I can put it in the red 1990 when I sell it (90 has been converted to all-wheel discs and 5-lugs).

Ken, Will get some tomorrow. Here's the one from the guy I bought it from:

I think it's probably better to replace it. The door I got to replace it has a few small dings under the mirror and the back bottom corner got bent (a friend slipped and dropped his end), but I think they are fixable. I had just helped my brother fix a ding under his mirror (same side even) from when wind caught the gate he was backing through and it was worse than the dings on the new door. The dent also goes into the area below the door (behind the skirt) but seems fixable. haven't taken the skirt off yet.

Were are supposed to have chain link gloves too, but they got lost. so we use some kind of fiber glove. That wouldn't have happened if they bought 2 gloves.

BTW, Sue Ann sounds a lot like my mom. She throws anyone elses stuff out to make room for her stuff. I dismanteled the 4x8 I had because I could only get to one side from all her junk. Before you return that rack, would you be willing to swap for it?

Jeff, Lol. Unlike most young people I know how to do that timing stuff, I advanced it in that 90. The 1994 mustang I have now has both a computer with the plug-in and a distributor cap/coil. Might be intresting if I try to tweak it, since I don't know how the computer would handle andvanced timing.

Galaxy, sucks that happens with such a new vehicle. Sounds like a fuel pump issue (Maybe a reverse of the Toyota gas pedal issue). I'd bet it goes even further downhill when the warranty expires.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evening. Lone Star please. I know I don’t usually partake in here, but, today I could use one. The funeral was beautiful. The line was so long and lasted for hours. Then the service was late to accommodate the visitation. If THAT wasn’t tribute enough to Burr, the village lowered their flag on the square to half mast in his honor. Brought a little tear to my eye. The man truly was well thought of.

Jim- I’m just glad it isn’t health issues that have kept you away.

Jeff- Computers in vehicles have done the same thing automatic chokes and the automatic transmission have done.

Sorry if I seem distracted, I’m cruising through the old “Coffee Shop” trying to see who was the first visitor that remains still today. Fergie was the first but I can’t recall wheen he posted last. I think he has within the last year. Maybe once since I’ve been around. I was thinking (Ryan posted the link a while back when someone else asked about the beginning) it was either Ryan or PC. Though neither one posts much anymore what with life and all. I’m pretty sure Ryan peeks in the window from time to time, HEY RYAN! (just in case he’s looking now) but haven’t heard a peep from PC. I sure hope all is well with him and the family. THAT just may make Jim the old man of the bunch. So much has happened since I last saw the original, I can’t remember. Should have written it down.

NOPE! I was wrong on all counts except Fergie. It was……..(drum roll) JP! ( now I remember) Congrats JP. Next time you’re in, coffee and donut is on me. Aw what the heck, make it a big Fireman’s breakfast.

Wrong again, number two (three?)goes to …..Flip. Actually Flip is the longest regular poster among us. Notice how I didn't say the "oldest"? I think he should get the "old man" coffee mug.

Nighty night time so PFTIN.

Evenin' folks!

Flo I will have a nice glass of the Earle Estates Pear Mead tonight.  I deserve some as I have had a long day.

In between running to Canandaigua to feed the cats at my sister's house, I have spent most of the day setting up and installing the Humpyard Purveyance turnout machines.  I did one backwards and so had to start the installation over again.  They are slick and w*rk quite well.  I checked continuity and other electrical stuff as I went.  One of the switches (turnouts) gave me a dead short went the points were turned one way. Took about an hour to hunt it down and correct it.  Turned out it was a tiny bit of metal THAT had shorted out one of the PC ties....... Angry  I still have to do some minor adjusting of things.  Anyway I set the module back down flat on the table and actually ran my old Shay over most of it.  Found an open on one rail.  I never joined two ends together......  I will do THAT first thing tomorrow.  And of course I found another short..  Same type of problem, little tiny piece of metal stuck shorting across one of the PC ties.  So Tomorrow will be tweeking day, and then start adding details.  (Also need to do a lube job on the old shay......

Jeffrey and Packer, I have no problem whatsoever working on old tractors, cars, and trucks.  It's that new fangled fancy stuff THAT I look under the hood and see, then let someone else plug it in and fix it! Sigh Whistling  I sometimes hat going to auto and tractor museums to see many vehicles and tractors THAt I drove and repaired back when I was a kid.  How the heck can they be Anti-ques already???  Oh well, I guess I fall into THAT catagory myself. Laugh

Hope you all have a great evening!

Good Morning Folks,

Janie, just a mug of coffee, please. I´ll stay here at the RC and watch who will drop by today.

We came in late yesterday, too late to say hello here. We went to my parent´s place to celebrate my mother´s 82nd birthday. As we have not been able to go there for quite some time, I was shocked to see, how fragile both my mother and father have turned in recent months. I sure wish I could go there more often, but with the price of gas over here, I just can´t afford to do that.

It was a nice day, though. Petra prepared lunch for us and her birthday cake earned here more than just a smile. My father gave me a stack of old "Trains" magazines, so I now have plenty of reading material to cover my days. We did a lot of talking about old times and I won a few new insights on my parents which I did not have yet. The best part of all was that we are starting to make plans on how to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in June next year. It will be a family affair, as all their friends have died in the meantime.

Ray - Thanks for your compliments on my track plans. I don´t think that I am good enough to have them published. First of all, they are not all my own ideas, but a cut and paste assembly from various sources, and second, the system I use is to crude to be used for professional graphic work. They are all drawn in WinRail, which is like the freebie RTS from Atlas. Good enough for the home use, but not for professional work.

Jeff - I chuckled at your little story. Yes, these are the modern times. Either you can hook up something to a computer, or you can´t repair it. Reminded me of the story of the long-time retired doc who once paid a visit to his successor. While walking down the hall with his successor, he noticed a man waiting for treatment. Upon his question what was wrong with the guy, he received the answer "Well, we need to run some more tests on him, as the computer analysis is not yet firm on the diagnosis". His answer was "Ask your computer, whether this man is a Chinese, otherwise I would say he is suffering from a bad case of acute parenchymatous hepatitis!"

Your van will be turning 30 next year. In Germany this would earn you a tax break and lower insurance rates, as your car will be entitled to join the ranks of "historical vehicles".

You all have a good day.
