Just a diet Pepsi for me tonight, we just finished a great homemade beef stew for dinner, Chef and homemade bread, (well a bread machine).

Finished diging out some lawn behind our RV parking so the utility trailer will have a place to sit when we get our new travel trailer next Saturday.  Also filled the area in with a yard of crushed limestone.  My back is killing me...  Sleepy

Evenin'

Flo, I need another refill on the decafe, Please and Thank You.

I got about half way through the 2nd. turnout before I ran out of steam.  I should get it finished tomorrow with any luck.  They say after you have done a few of them you can do one in about 45 minutes.....  I have about an hour in this one now.

A couple pages back somebody asked if I was changing brands on turnouts.  Well, I have got a couple of reasons for going with the Fast Tracks.  One is I do like to hand lay track.  It usually looks better, and is cheaper and performs just as well if not better than "store bought" flex track.  The other reason is the next NMRA AP Certificate I am working on is the Civil Engineering Certificate and one requirement is to hand lay several different types of turnouts and crossings.  You have to earn a merit award for 3 of the following: Crossover, Double Crossover, Single Slip Switch, Double Slip Switch,  Crossing, Gauntlet Track, Gauntlet Turnout, Dual Guage Turnout, and Guage Separation Turnout.  I will be doing a crossover, double crossover, and a crossing.  They all have to be working (you have to run a loco over and through the trackage, and each has to meet NMRA standards.

J. R. we only run the Diesels and cabooses a few times during the Summer.  The rest of time it is Trolleys for half of the run, and track cars for the rest of the way down to the R&GV Museum.  Rides start at the New York Museum of Transportation a couple miles up the road.  Seneca Falls?  Hmm, there used to be a village called Seneca Falls around here.  Oh yeh!  They disbanded.  So Seneca Falls is no more, sorry!  Well they still call it Seneca Falls as it is in the Township of Seneca Falls although there is a movement to rename the place "Bedford Falls"....  For tourist attraction......Whistling  OK, Seriously, Seneca Falls is at the Northern end of Cayuga Lake one lake to the East of Seneca Lake.  Geneva is the Northern end of Seneca Lake, Watkins Glen is on the Southern end of Seneca Lake.  Your crew will be about 35 miles South of Seneca Falls/Geneva.  BTW the Southern end of Cayuga Lake is Ithaca, NY. Map

Chris, looks like you still have a real collectible there.  Cool!

Jeffrey, looks like you got new shoes.....  (hey everybody, get a load of Jeffrey's clod hoppers!  All he needs is a bolt through his neck and he could do the part of Herman Munster....... ) OK, Jeffrey, I was just kidding, Really!  Best get out of here............ Ow!  Hey! Cut it out, Ow......

Didn't get the yard mowed tonight. Got called into work and well..... I guess I'll have to tomorrow. It's cooled off pretty good here.

I wouldn't pick on Jeff like that Ray, he might use those new shoes ON you.

Well, I'm now all caught up on the happenings in and around the diner.  Thanks for not running away with the page count on me.  Nothing for me tonight as I'm about to head to bed.  Tomorrow is my day off from w**k and I've been voluntold that I'm helping Amy clean the house.  Only a few new things have happened in my neck of the woods recently.  We had to take Mikayla (our now 7-month old) up to Birmingham, AL to Children's Hospital to be allergy tested.  Amy noticed that Mikayla has had some pretty bad excema (sp?) and was afraid that it is/would be some kind of food allergy.  Test came back negative on that one, so no real worries there.

I did, however; find a hobby shop up there, guess I could call it my LDHS (long-distance hobby shop as its 100 miles one-way to it).  I really enjoyed the place, its a husband/wife team that runs the place, and best of all, he keeps mostly southern road names in stock, AND he ships to you!  Yeah, I'm making up a wishlist so that Amy can get stuff for me.  Whilst I was there, I did get three things, first two was two bottles of paint, CSX blue and CSX yellow (hopefully those'll be "close enough" to match YN3 paint on locomotives currently), and a 50' PS 5277 boxcar in CSX paint.  Going to weather it a little and strap it behind my SD40-2 for some pictures here soon.  Also plan on painting my GP40-2 in CSX paint and getting some shots of it.  I hope that my hand-painting skills are still there (they should be with all the aircraft, car and truck models I've built).  Well enough of that, if I keep going on, I'll have a book here.

PC, glad to see you sir, also glad to hear that your wife is doing well, sorry to hear about your son, he is in our prayers.

Chris, glad to hear that you sold one of the fire apparatus, and also glad to hear that you are able to maintain visitation rights.

Robby, that's a nice house.  Prayers for a good appraisal coming from us to y'all.

All right, all right, enough of my rambling.  I'm headed off to bed, goodnight to all and I'll see y'all in the morning.

Good Morning All,

A regular and a donut in a sack please Zoe. 54 and sunny out just now with sunshine and a high of 77 predicted today. Good to see some of the missing regulars stopping in. Where in Birmingham is that hobby shop? I try to drop in local places when I'm in the area but all I ever found was a Hobbytown out towards Leeds. Yes I usually stop at Lantz's when I'm up Watkins Glen way just to look around.

Galaxy - way to go! I know it's painful, but if you can just pick at it a bit each week you'll be better off in no time. We all felt better at thome when I was finally able to clear the construction debris from the yard (come to think of it, the neighbors were happier too Big Smile).

Ray - I wondered about Seneca Falls because I remember a road sign for it, and Selector has the place on his layout as well. I suppose I could have just Map Quested it but then you miss all the backround info.Smile

Chris - If the Dragonslayer is under a weatherproof tarp, that's half the battle. You know the trick of putting dryer sheets in the interior to keep the critters out right? And now that the weather is nice you can put some more fuel stabilizer in, turn the motor over (even by hand) and spray some oil down the cylinders (we use spray engine fog, pull the plugs and have at it with a bit of spray in each bore). Not much you can do about the paint and tires except move the truck a bit occasionally so the tires don't always rest on the same spot and dust the old girl off now and then.

Well, time to get to it. We've got lots to do to get ready and only a day between trips to get it done so I'd best be going.   Cul, J.R.

Good morning all,

The trip to Michigan went well, my son graduated high School on Friday and the party was on Saturday, drove home on Sunday.  Sunday morning I got the call my basement flooded.  This time I was better prepared and had kept most things off the floor.  The last flood was 4 years ago and I lost carpeting and the washer and dryer. The only issue now is a film of grey that the storm water left behind.  I hear the city’s storm drain system failed, flooding several intersections with 2-3 feet of water, I only had 2” maybe. Garry and I, well our schedules didn’t work out this time to meet for coffee or lunch in Michigan, maybe next time…

Good morning.  Its finally sunny, and no tornado watch Big Smile.

Well I'm off to work in 30 minutes.  That's a all day event Blindfold, so no MRR for me today.  Then when I get off, I will have to cut grass.

I did start on my gas station yesterday, and the decals that came with the kit were to old.  They just deteriorated in the water.  I did find a few I like that Tomkat has on the one topic.  Maybe later this week I can work on it some more.  I just didn't expect the building to be as small as it is.

Lee......That sucks about the basement.   I know down south we didn't put our washer/dryer on anything other than leaving them on the floor.  The first thing people tell me here is (up north), to get them off the ground.  Pour some cement or something, incase it floods.   The bad thing is you have to lose something to prepare for next time.   Hope you get everything cleaned up.

Morning all, Trucker's special breakfast with some 2% milk, thank you kindly......

Well now have another working engine with a DCC decoder installed, soldered in a LokSound Select decoder and speaker in a Walthers Trainline GP7, engine works, and the sound works, and I'm happy.  Did not reinstall lights yet, still deciding on whether I want bulbs or LEDs installed.  Also found out Decoder Pro does not have the software yet for the LokSound Selects, so will have to try to program it with the DCC system, should be interesting.......

My dad now has a new project, sister's boyfriend gave him a used boat trailer, and dad is converting it into an ATV trailer.  Will be quite a project for him, but should look very nice when it's done.

Well, time to get back to work on the layout, going to try to get most of it wired today and tomorrow.  We shall see what happens.....

Morning. Just coffee please. Gotta make it short. I must get the bookwork for the Church done and the yard mowed today in time for work. It is suppose to rain 2 to 3 inches tomorrow. I hope they are wrong.

Lee- Whew! You said you're basement flooded while you were gone and I was thinking of the worst. I'm glad only 2"Shock, well if it had to flood at all of course, instead of the way some have flooded in Springfield when the sewers couldn't handle the water last week. It would have been bye bye RR.  By the way, out of curiosity, how high is yours? Mines 40" I should be able to take a good flood, but the way Brenda's Mom's basement flooded it wouldn't be high enough.

Well, I best get a movin' Maybe I can squeeze a stop in to Toddland (of which I'm king)

Have a Great Day!!!

Good morning all!

A strong cup of Hawaiian Kona Coffee please...pick a mug.

Good Morning All,

Yes I usually stop at Lantz's when I'm up Watkins Glen way just to look around.

Galaxy - way to go! I know it's painful, but if you can just pick at it a bit each week you'll be better off in no time. We all felt better at thome when I was finally able to clear the construction debris from the yard (come to think of it, the neighbors were happier too Big Smile).

Lantz's { wholesaletrains.com} is one of my favorite local hobby shops, though I tend to spend more if I go into the store!

There was no painful part about cleaning out the closet, EXCEPT FOR MY BACK. I had no problem separating clothes and getting rid of them and was amazed at how much "garbage" there was in there too. If my Back wasn't in the very bad shape it's in, I woulda cleaned out a lot more closets and shtuff and had a massive {and cheap} yard sale. Not so much to make lots of money, but to provide those with something maybe they can use that we no longer can, and to amke a few bucks at it. Everything under $3, and bag sale in the aftermnoon. But my back isn't up to it would probably horrify my neurosurgeon if I did. My other half has to work and isn't so much into the work of cleaning out clutter, though mind you when it's my clutter, the story can be different.

Perhaps I can do little bits by little bits when my back is feeling up to it and the pain killers are working.

See Jeffrey hasn't been in yet today. He worries me when he doesn't check in. Hope he's feeling oK. In our shape, OK is the best we can hope for.

WARNING WARNING: We had the carbon minoxide alarm go off last night in the middle of the night, so we called in the NYSEG people to check the Nat gas furnace and water heater for leaks. Turns out the water heater wasn't venting well, and the flame needs to be serviced,as it only burned orange and not blue. Oh Goodie! It is a new law here in NY that all dwellings must have carbon minoxide detectors. SO if you live in NY and haven't got yours yet GET ONE, it could have saved our lives last night!

well, see you all later.

Good morning. It's 79 and partly cloudy. I can see that the weather guesser lied last night as there's a 50% chance of rain later today.

Not much on the schedule for today. I have some new parts coming in this week for the van. Finding parts for a 30 year old vehicle isn't easy but if I turn over enough rocks I eventually find what I'm looking for. One of the parts is a new gas tank that's still in the box. Another part I'll have to hunt for is a windshield wiper motor. The old one works but has a habit of sometimes stopping on it's own. Eventually I'll put an electric fuel pump in close to the gas tank so I'll have it there in case the mechanical pump goes out. Not much to report on the layout front. The van is taking all my extra time, money and energy. I have lots of the first, not much of the second and not enough of the third.

 Good Afternoon,

well, the nice spell is over, we are back to the usual weather - wet! I am not feeling up to speed, something´s cooking up again. Still no news about the job - that makes me really nervous!

Had to pay one of those unforeseen invoices - garbage collection fee of $ 40 - there goes my MRR money again. Nuttin´ left Sad

Galaxy - my Angel for your son´s surgery!

Lee - a flooded basement is no fun! How do you get rid of the dampness?

Chris - sorry you had to part with that great looking truck!  Such a beauty!

Chloe, I´ll have a RBF, please.

 Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, how about a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with Maple Syrup and a cup of my favorite dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.

Woke up with a headache this morning.  (May be from Jeffrey hitting me with his shoe last night....) Didn't even wake up until close to 10AM, so breakfast is a bit late, and I still have the same amount of stuff to get done.  Tonight is MLK Committee meeting so I have to do the finances and pay some bills.  Still have to finish a small strip of lawn.  And THAT is just the tip of the iceberg.

Jeffrey is the new in the box gas tank an exact replacement for the old gas tank?  Sure hope it is.  Should make it a bit easier to install and get everything safe.  Any luck with rebuilding the steering column to work with your wireing?

Lee, good luck with the basement.  Hope you have a few dehumidifiers!

[edit] Oh look, I have top honors.  Zoe just put it on the tab, I'll settle up later.......

Well, it is time to face the day, so I best get moving!

Later!

Mornin folks. Well took a few pics last night, my dad fixed the air compressor's plug so I could finally airbrush. No pics of the streamlined passenger cars I painted (FINALLY) but do have some of the first coat of paint on the Dixie Quick-Mix Cement Bagging plant. Need to get more paint for at least a second coat though. I have a pic of the progress on my yard's industrial district. Also scratchbuilt the little guard shack: And here's the scene I can't wait to complete:

Yes, it's an exact factory match. As for the column, no word on that yet.

Hello  ... Still in MI.

Lee ... Glad we could at least talk on the cell phone. Sorry to hear about the flooded basement. Will that impact the open house you are planning?

So far, my schedule in MI has not connected with Duke either. He's definately a good guy and I was hoping to see him on this trip.

Went to P&D Hobbies in Fraser, MI this morning. I browsed a lot, but only bought a couple of small items.

I have some Branchline freight car kits to assemble here but so far I've had very little idle time for that.

I read in WPF a message from a rivot counter saying the trucks on Jeff's nicely weathered hopper should also have been weathered. Nuts to him. The hopper could have had its trucks recently replaced on the rip track.

One of the auto parts managers here is an antique car buff. He knew exactly where to look for it. I got it for less than what JC Whitney wanted for their 'universal' replacement. The real fun is going to be putting it on.

 Good afternoon.....stack of cheeseburgers please.

Welp, finally took a look at the WPF stuff...geesh! One guy gets railed on for having the "wrong" kind of endloader, JEFF gets railed on for the trucks on his hopper... Maybe it oughta be "Weekend Photo Foulballs" for all the critics!

SAWYER: Again Pal, I'm liking THAT industrial zone...looking forward to watching the cement plant develop too.

KEITH: Does my caffiene, nicotene, sugar, salt, fat, and grease abused heart good to see THAT much CNW yellow and green! (your WPF shot). Oh yeah, even KEITH got hammered on...for daring to pop his strobe.

I 'spose I'd best get back at it...trying to line-up assignments for the week and formulate interview questions for blogging farmers and a departing superintendent of schools.

Garry, No not really, I learned the hard way about the storm water backing up into the basement when it monsoons in Euclid, I need to sweep and swab the floor with bleach and pine sol to get rid of the wet dog smell.  All the appliances were on blocks and train stuff on the floor was in water proof tubs.

Yea it was good to chat with you on the phone, next time we will get together we will just have to plan a little in advance of our families ides, LOL

I think I’m going to shoot for September for an open house.  Give me some time to get a few kinks ironed out and to start the new port addition in the spare room.

Well all, just stopping in for a brief lunch.  I've been spending my morning cutting the front yard.  I'm about half done with using the push-mower on it (my front yard is 4.5 acres).

I'll take a hot ham and cheese on toast with a tall glass of cold sweet tea please.

Nothing else happening for me today, can't find my paint brushes, so I can't paint my GP40-2, guess I'll have to go and buy a set, oh well, that's not all that expensive a purchase.  Guess I'll eat my lunch and then go back into the yard and work on my tan and the grass...

Welp, finally took a look at the WPF stuff...geesh! One guy gets railed on for having the "wrong" kind of endloader, JEFF gets railed on for the trucks on his hopper... Maybe it oughta be "Weekend Photo Foulballs" for all the critics!

Hey Chris....  Interesting, I didn't see any of those as being inappropriate.  I think most (with maybe one exception) were really meant to be helpful.  For instance Kieth's work was first complimented and then given a suggestion how to make a better photo....  I saw the same problem, but didn't reply as it probably wasn't intended to be a "contest" quality photo.  I think THAT may be your point........  And Kieth please don't think I am in any way picking on you.  I really like your work!  Anyway, in a recent clinic I did for my NMRA Division I started with this photo:

It is a really, really bad photo (as it was intended to be).  I started with it and then showed by changing how the photo was taken, you can make some big differences in the final result.  For instance:  The photo above was taken in Auto Mode with the flash.  Here is the same exact photo done in manual mode on the camera:

There is still a lot of problems with this photo, but it is much, much better.  There are few times when I use a flash for hobby photography.

Rob and Chris, thank you! As to the WPF bit; I think the criticism wasn't so much criticism as suggestions; they were respectful and did not have the "air of ignorant superiority" that most rivet counters have. just my two cents, both photos mentioned were good as they were (as mentioned the trucks could have been shopped, which is the thought that ran through my head when I saw the suggestion comment but didn't say anything about it; to each unto his own)
