Afternoon all...I will take a handful of Oxycodone and an ice cold Pepsi please. It's been awhile since I checked in. I was finally getting over the discomfort from my rotator cuff surgery and then last week I noticed a big tennis ball bulge near my belly button. Two years ago I had a hot appendix taken out and they also repaired an umbilical hernia while they were at it. Normally they repair that with mesh but due to the infected appendix they did not use mesh for fear of contaminating it. The doctor said it is like a 20-30% chance that the hernia could come back. Well...it did. I had the "proper" surgery yesterday and all went well...just my stomach hurts like all hell now and will for a few days. At least this gives me time to work at my makeshift workbench I made at the kitchen table to get some work done. I finally did it and registered and opened up a small business "Terrain for Trains". I will be selling custom scenery. Mainly scratch built trees of all kinds,structures..details...mainly high end and highly detailed products. I figured since I have been doing this all along for friends and making some good side cash I might as well make it legit. I figured online sales and about a half dozen local shows a year would be good too. I also have two local hobby shops that want to sell my products too. Hopefully it goes well. It also helps buying supplies for the business at a good discount and tax free too!! Now I just have to setup the online stuff and get going on signage and the marketing aspect of it. Wish me luck!..Since I will be home for a week or so I will be here dining frequently!!...A big hello to Ray!!

P.S...It looks like I got the top!!...Milkshakes for all!!

A true friend will not bail you out of jail...he will be sitting next to you saying "that was friggin awesome dude!" Tim...Modeling the NYC...is there any other?

Afternoon Folks!

Zoe just a RBF to tide me over to supper.

Ryan, good to see you sir.  We've been wondering how you are doing these days.  Don't be a stranger around here!

I got up early this morning and headed out to the village THAT used to be known as Seneca Falls to get my hair cut.  Actually while I was there I had him cut them all......Whistling  Since my son't house is on the way home, I drove the truck and dropped off tables, etc. for tomorrow' Garage Sale.  Stayed for a quick lunch and go to play with the granddaughters and the dogs (2 granddaughters and 3 very affectionate little dogs who just have to get between me and the granddaughters).  Came home, fed the kitties, and headed down to church.

After 2 hours of w*rk on it at church, we have 4 wireless mikes up and running.  Some things are definitly wrong in a couple of the units.  We can get good clear sound as long as nothing is plugged in that uses the Phantom Power.  For those of you who are not audio people, phantom power is a 48v system used to power certain kinds of microphones.  As long as the phantom power is off the system works,  of course THAT means we can't use the podium mic which takes phantom power.  Even with the podium mic unplugged, turning on phantom power causes a major 60Hz hum in the system.  This is with my small mixer and not with the one belonging to the church.....  THAT one was doing the same thing....???  The hearing assist system is fried as well, and I'm not sure the computer EQ unit is quite up to par......  They are calling a Sound Company (the one that provided the equipment and did much of the installation) to come in check out each unit to see what needs to be replaced.

To be sure something doesn't go bad for the wedding tomorrow, I have been tagged to sit in and watch the board.  The regular sound operator will be there on Sunday.

[edit]  Hey Tim!  Opening a scenery business, huh?  Good luck!  Hope it goes well.  Sorry to hear you had surgery, but glad you should be up and about soon.

Well, need to mow some lawn.

Later!

The best-laid plans of mice and men oft go awry.....

Well, was supposed to be home in Wisconsin for a wedding this morning, but I think my dispatcher had a lousy sense of timing and direction, and am going to be a day late getting to the house.  Oh well, will just go out a day later next week (I put in for four days, I am getting four days!).

Have a "light" beer load, in more ways than one, a load of light beer (which will remain nameless), in home kegs, which is only 32,000lbs.  A normal beer load for me is about 44-46,000lbs.  Don't think anyone wants to drink it right now, it being 90 degrees outside, and probably 120-130 inside the trailer.

The model railroading will commence tomorrow afternoon, and should get at least a few solid days work put into it, should be able to run something on it by the time I come back out on Wednesday.

hey guys, whats new? I just finished building a scratch-built wood barn for storing traction engines and steam rollers. I stained the roof black and started painting the sides red. Figured out that masking tape superglued to the wood makes a great hinge, but looking for something better. Gotta have my something to listen to. In this case Lynard Skynard. I'll post more pics (if these work) when I have it all painted. The bottle in the background has black ink for the roof. works surprisingly good, just won't take on dried CA. A bit overkill would you guys say?

Afternoon everyone.  It's Friday, I'll take a White Rum and Diet Pepsi in a BC Railway tall glass please.  (My second favourite railway).

Taking my son up to his Scout Camp for the day tomorrow, (he has muscular dystrophy so doesn't like to do the whole weekends all the time).  He's finishing his second year and has now decided to work towards his Cheif Scout Award.  (Similar to Eagle Scout perhaps? down south).  He also plays the electric bass in the school band.

Our oldest has just finished his 3rd year in Air Cadets (cross between Civil Air Patrol and Jnr. ROTC), and was promoted to Sgt last week.  Grade 9 and final exams are coming up for him in the next couple of weeks.  I may have some peace and quiet time after all in a while.  Time to put more work on the layout.

If you cannot fix it with a hammer;

You have an electrical problem!

Evening all. Janie, I'll take a RBF, thanks. Just catching up from page ONE...

Jim- Thanks! I'm down here now, so I'll go around to some more places tomorrow and see what I can find.
Also, I've been pretty good with my Formspring. So far, no hate on it. The railroading community is the only group of people I've given it out to, and they're mostly good guys, so I should be good.

Keith- looking like some GREAT progress!

Ray- hopefully the stuff in the church'll be fine without too much damage.

Sawyer- ah, the fun of geometry... Well, we had a good teacher (good guy, terrible teacher, so he got fired...), so it wasn't AS bad...

Barry- good luck getting THAT whatever-it-is-THAT-you-called-it.

Ulrich- glad to hear she is home and doing (relatively) well!

Sign - Welcome Gary!

Sawyer- I'm so jealous! We still have next week (off Friday for reading day, which is optional) and then exams the next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday...

Ryan, glad to see ya again!

-------------------------------------------

Ok, so I have this friend, who is a girl, who I just so happen to like, who broke up with her significant other yesterday. I understand that she needs some time, but am afraid that if I wait too long, the my window may close again.
I have no experience in the relationships department, but I THINK (and hope) that I can get this to w**k... I'll let ya guys know...

Transit's ALP-46As entered revenue service on Wednesday. 4629 was doubleheaded (term for the Hoboken Division, would be MU'ed on the Newark side) with 4601 on a set out of Dover. AFAIK, there have been no major problems. I'm told that the 46As will be on this rotation on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, so I'm assuming that they'll put one in service every week.

Speaking of Transit, has anyone heard from Sam lately? Hopefully his job is safe...

---------------------------

Well, I guess that's it for now. I may be back in later, we'll see.

Evenin folks!

Just a decaf for me Flo.  I'll go sit in the back and relax for a bit.

Finished my first Fast Tracks turnout.  It is a slick system and makes creating an NMRA Spec turnout a whole lot easier than what I was doing 25 years ago.......  Here it is right after gluing the turnout onto the ties (with Pliobond contact cement):

And after the excess material has been snapped off the ties and sitting approximately where the turnout will go on the layout:

Ray- hopefully the stuff in the church'll be fine without too much damage.

We already know the mixer and the hearing assist unit are fried.... We think there may be a shorted out cord in the Sound Snake causing the problem when the Phantom Power is on.  How and where?  Who knows!  Could be a long Summer while we get everything fixed.  The company for the fire alarm service was there today replacing several detection units that failed with the lightning strike........

Later!

Good Evening, Chloe - since Tim's buying, I'll have a chocolate (but a malt), please, and a slice of the chocolate iced devil's food cake with a scoop of vanilla on top. Thanks!

Hey, Tim, hate to tell you, but I just did a search for your company name (in case you already had a site up), and there's a "Terrain for Trains", who makes 'formed plastic' layout ('base') structures. You may want to change the name... (Sorry!...) Oops Maybe, "Trees for Trains"? "

Ray - 48 volts? Wow!! - I wouldn't want to have a short in a mike running that! Shock Hope everything on the equipment holds together and makes it through the wedding, AND the service(s) on Sunday. What've you been up to on your layout lately? Wouldn't mind a shot of inspiration from one of your photos. Okay, saw your first Fast Tracks turnout - I am impressed! (But think I'll pass for now on trying making my own turnouts)

Randy, enjoy your four days off; hey, even if that beer was icy cold, not my preference. But we may have another Diner or two in here who might like some cold ones. Wink Guess you can send your condolences to the couple about missing the wedding (maybe they had a video done?).

NS Joe, sorry to hear you are still in school there! Sigh Around here, the schools will be in (I think) at least their second week of summer this coming Monday (some will be starting the 3rd week). Score some LHS bargains there once you get off for the summer. Thumbs Up On that female friend/future girlfriend, it'll be difficult, but you'll be better off giving her the time to heal from the ending relationship (that would be both my personal and (semi-)professional opinion). Better in the long run for you, better for her not to rush things, IMHO.

Have been trying to find some better flatcar kits lately (I'll blame it on Ray's pics of how great he makes them look, like a REAL wooden deck) Smile,Wink, & Grin Problem is, the Red Caboose ones (which look really nice) are hard to locate, other than on the 'Bay (yeah, I have a search set up for THAT), and I think maybe Ray's been beating me to the Tichy dealers (or at least those I've checked online). I do have some Athearn flatcar kits coming this next week, so I'll see what I can do with the decks on those (or get one of those kits for the real wooden decks that I see in the Walthers catalog).

Will try to see about some progress on some MRR buildings/projects this weekend. But might need to clear the infamous dining room table top (AKA 'w**kbench') first. Evening news and weather is on, so I'll head for home now (and get to bed at a better hour). Looks like some cooling may be here by Sunday, at least. Smile

Prayers for healing and comfort for those who are ailing or otherwise in need of same (which might be most of us or our family members). Those needing to see your doctors, please remember to get that visit in ASAP, please. AngelAngel

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Ray, that #6 is lookin good.

Have started a bit of research on the Iola & Northern branch I mentioned a couple days ago; ran across an interesting site with some good info at greenbayroute.com (sorry, can't remember how to activate link).  Lots more rail-served business than I remember, but I'm sure most were torn/burned down before I was bornWhistling.  Only structure remaining now is the depot and flour mill (no pix of the mill).  Guess I'll have to remember a camera in July when I'm in the area for annual family reunion.  The depot is now a small RR and historical society museum, and I learned that a 2nd cousin of mine is the curator.  I do remember enough of the pickle salting station (worked there three summers during college) to be able to duplicate it fairly closely though (with a lot of compression cuz I don't want to have to build 100+ pickle vats).

Personal note: I've never been a rabid football fan, but I now have a very tenuous connection to the Jacksonville Jaguars.  5th round pick Austen Lane is from Iola and is the great-grandson of one of my mother's sisters.  Ergo, grandson of one of my first cousins.  Not only that, I weigh almost as much as he does (although the distribution of said weight is slightly differentShock).  Please forgive the puffery, as I've only met him once at a reunion when he was perhaps 14-15, and he wouldn't remember me at all I'm sure.

RYAN!!!- Great to hear from you. Glad things are going well, but sorry about the spice sales, They come highly recommended. I'll admit the purchase of some is on my list I haven't completed yet, but I shall soon. Not that it will by you a Mercedes, but I am dying to try some and with grilling season on us, well, you know. Great record the ball team has going, I'm assuming Ben is just tickled pink about it.

Tim- Welcome back. Sorry about the problems. But glad the surgery went well. I hope the business takes off too.

Ray- Sounds almost like a Fender ad..... "the 60 cycle hum". Probably not desirable at Church though. Turnout looks goood! But, like Jim, I think I'll pass on the attempt myself, I'm having enough trouble bringing the road up to crossing height. Of course there are many things I wasn't going to do or care about until I started hanging out with you guys. Laugh

Dan- Well, sure sounds like you have quite a bit to celebrate! Can't say I'll join you with your drink of choice, but maybe I'll dip into Randy's load. After it hit's a cooler for a while of course.

Vincent- A bit of advice, do NOT dip her pig tails in the ink well. Backfired on me every time. Wait, did I just elude to my age? Forget I said that. Go for it man. But give her a chance to recover. Stay friends and ease into the more than friends. Maybe take her out a few times on the pretences of taking her mind off of it.

Jim- I see Ray causes you a few problems too. Darn him, makes you try harder doesn't heTongue.

Gary- (harder than you think to type that with one R) reminded me of a camera event I missed involving the Humdrum Amtrak. I was on the blacktop this afternoon heading to the od homestead and could see the train, but it was too far away to make out the word on one of their cars. It was not the traditional Amtrak scheme of any year or phase, but of the old scheme of some railroad past. It was painted dirty silver as usual (I think), but had the band at the top of the car and, I could NOT make out what it said, but very well COULD have said Santa Fe, to give you an example of what I saw. I'm not saying that's what it said, but I am almost sure it did not say Amtrak. No I am sure.

Well, here it is 11:30 and I should be in bed so....

Prayers for those in need.

 Good Morning,

it is still a little foggy, but the weekend is supposed to be nice. Caught some good sleep last night, and that did away with most of the migraine - at least the nausea seems to be gone - Yeah!!

Zoe, I´ll have a BR mug of dark roast coffee, please add some milk and sugar to it, and my usual croissants with two kinds of jam, please. I´ll be at the RC and check on the new rivets.

Tim - good luck with your new business. If "Terrain for Trains" as the business name is taken, how about "Train Scenics"?

Ray - that # 6 turnout looks nice. That Fast Track system seems to work nicely! Way too expensive for me, though. How´s Olivia doing? I hope the broken collar bone is healing well.

Ryan - good to see you again. What´s cooking in the MRR front?

Joe - take it easy and slow. Just be there, when she wants you to be around and don´t rush in. Give her a chance to talk to you - you know, girls always want to talk Big Smile

Jim - now that your laptop is back in w*rking order, I hope to see you a little more frequently here Smile.

Now news on that job - is that good or bad. Those government agencies are so slow, it is wrecking my nerves. I guess, that´s what caused my recent migraine attack. If I don´t get an answer by next week, I don´t think I´ve made it Sad. What then? I wish I could find a job in the US or Canada - I don´t like to stay on in Germany anymore. Each year, more than 250,000 Germans emigrate, but most of them are a lot younger than Petra and I are. Dreams!

You all have a good day!

Good Morning Smile

We're having a high of 27C in the sun and humidity---going to cloud up and begin to rain tonight and leave us with 1.5" of the stuff by tomorrow morning--that on top of the 2" we got just a couple of days ago---

Got some runnin' 'roun' to do today for HD list. Yay. Then it'll be off into the trainroom to do some more weathering on the grainmill ---

Chloe, I'll just have a coffee and a blueberry bran muffin please----I'll be at the window booth for---BBBBLLLLLLLOOOOOAAAAAARRTTT!!!!-------oh Todd!! I think I found another of your whoopie cushions!!Whistling

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, why are all the windows open, I thought the new place was air conditioned?  Barry did what?  And blamed it on Todd?  Well then, until the place airs out......  just a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug please.  Breeze seems to be coming in the front, so I'll sit there.

Ulrich, hope your headache goes away soon!  Olivia is doing very well.  She has to wear a brace for another few weeks until the bone completely heals.  Hasn't slowed her down a bit except my son says she doesn't want to swing anymore.  She just sits in it with out swinging.

Jim, Phantom Power exists from I think 24v to 48v.  It is mostly used in Condenser type mics used for serious recording.  Both my Shure Beta Green 4.0 pencil mics and my Shure large diaphram condenser mic are powered with it.  Most all the mics where you have to use a battery in line can also be powered with phantom power.  It is not generally used for hand held mics such as the Shure SM 58s which are a "dynamic" type of mic.  (Have I confused you yet?)

Thanks for the comments on the turnout.  i hope to have another one finished by Monday, and the two of them installed on the layout sometime next week.

Best get moving, it will be another busy day here in the Finger lakes!

Good morning. Coffee and a stack of flapjacks with maple syrup please. Thank you (sluuurp) Ulrich, I hope your headaches gone, cause I have one now. No migraine, just a headache.

Well, looks like the Huddle house has been talking to Barry about a breakfast special. They have their new menus out and have this breakfast special that's $13.95 and I do believe has every menu item included. I might not eat for a day or two and try one.

Ray- Don't fret over me none. I'm used to being blamed for those...um..., outbursts. The dog blames me aaaall the time.Whistling

What am I gonna do today? Well, funny you should ask. I don't know. It's supposed to rain today, 70% chance with scattered T-storms, some may be severe, yard needs mowed again, but it rained a bit last night and is overcast and humid so far with rain moving in soon according to the radar. I need to get some stuff from Mom's house to her new garage, but in an open truck, rain is a damper. I need to clean out her gutters and some more tidying up there too. I'm going to have to go to Big R in Lincoln to see if they have a float for the sump pump for the washing machine and the sink(ours), as the one in Springfield has been out, and though they say they still carry them, they have been out for a couple of months. I know they used to because I‘ve bought one years ago and seen them many times since while purchasing my biannual switch. Now that I need one again..... As luck would have it the Big R's parking lot is behind the Bonanza Steak house. For those of you not familiar with Bonanza it is a family steak house that has a great salad and food bar included. Similar to what a Ryans' used to be like when you had a choice of steaks and they brought that part out to you. I think I can time that trip to my stomach. I just might take Brenda with me if she's good.

But first, another splop of plaster for to raise the grade to the crossing from Gold Creek to the tourist trap town.

Have a Great Day!!!

Good Morning, Flo - I'll have some waffles with couple of strips of bacon (don't have to worry about any bad effects from the food in here! Big Smile), pat of butter on top, and a Santa Fe mug of coffee, please. And just leave the maple syrup pitcher on the counter here, thanks. Dinner

Think I'll look really close to my seat (and under it) before I sit down this morning. Whistling Just in case Todd left any other 'surprises' around...

Sir Madog
Jim - now that your laptop is back in w*rking order, I hope to see you a little more frequently here Smile.

Ulrich, unfortunately, I have to send it back to have them fix a couple of things (keyboard key that isn't w**king, and the logic board got put in crooked so I can't use that port on the back), so will have to (starting Monday) limp along without it. Hoping they'll get this done quickly. Good to hear your migraine's gone on a vacation (or a holiday, as our British friends might call it). And does our RC have the correct number of rivets on it? Wink Hang onto those dreams, friend!

Tim, I like Ulrich's suggestion for your company name, if it's not taken. Whaddya think of that for a name?

Robby - will keep you and your wife, the house and the appraiser in my AngelAngel. Let us know later what he/she had to say (if you get any informal summary before he/she leaves).

Have been by the post office already, and had three nice surprises there - a postcard from Ireland that my friend Linda (from Memphis) sent me from there when she was on her vacation, the new MR issue, and decals for renumbering some D&RGW boxcar kits I have (yet to be assembled). Should be a good day, even with being on-call. Yeah!!

Have a great Saturday, y'all! Oops Well, lookee there - guess I have the breakfast special! Flo, set up the trough AYKE buffet for these hungry Diners. I'll check the tab later today and settle up. (Good thing payday's on Monday...)

Blessings,

Morning!!....Coffee to go please...All you guys made me nervous talking about the "business" name being taken. When I went to the courthouse to register it here in Onondaga Co N.Y that name had not been used or through the good old I.R.S when I registered for my EIN number for tax purposes. So maybe people use the name because it may not be trademarked...hhmm...Whistling Talk to ya all later!!

Good morning from Utica, MI Joe be there for her, try taking her out some place fun like the Zoo for the day but don't make any sudden moves. Take your time Flat cars.... Bowser makes some very nice flat cars and the proto 2000 flat cars are nice the decks are seperate from the body. Take a look through my progress albums and see what I did with some of my old Tyco decks, if you're impressed it's a simple process and I would be more than happy to tell you how to do it

Todd,  Garry, Ulrich Der John,  Quote: " Keith: (again) I hear you on the differing sizes in N. In fact on evilBay N is often described a 1:160 - and 1: 150, sometimes from the same vendor! I did have a small HOn30 section on my HO layout in Alberta, and used N track for the most part, and the HOn30 track for where the difference in the ties could be appreciated! It's just that I let myself get bent out of shape with figures mostly, some people are about 1½ times the size of others - and I'm not talking children, or even gender differences Big Smile.  It's about then I need to learn to go over to the Rivet Counter!"

LOL... I come to the rivet counter plenty of times.  John,  I thank you for you understanding of the situation.  But you didn't even mention those Pheiser people.. I think they are about 1/200 th ... lol.  But in short I think its the way Ulrich put it.

Ulrich quote: " What counts, is the overall impression, or illusion, you create "  when I read that.. I said.. "What a beautfiul person that Ulrich is~"

Ok.. if some of you have wondered what have I been doing to the layout.  It would seem nothing.. but each little detail takes time.  Take for instance.. my pedestrian walkway.

100_1369.jpg picture by Blazzin55

Only one landing area with struts came in my "Parts Bag" of loose stuff.  The rest I had bashed.  There was only so much room for a walkway and the stairs on one side had to be cut and partially go into the wall.  I have seen that before where stairs and rock and both one.. in real life,  so I'm not too worried about that.

As far as what I am doing today?  Well ...

100_1372.jpg picture by Blazzin55

In the very center of this pic.. is a small rock with 3 trees.  I was going to place a tree planter here.. but decided to add some 'continuitity' and 'follow through' on the rocks instead of a tree planter.  That area in question is a 'drive thru' and partial parking for the station.  yeah.. I know.. but there is only so much room here.

Now for something new and totally exciting.  If you noticed on the last pic.. I have lamp posts/street lights placed in various areas.  Well aside from that.. those lights are 12 volts.

I am looking for a passive lighting system.  I have around the house a Malibu Solar outdoor lighting set.  I believe they are either 12 volt or 8 volt system.  Strictly solar power (solar gain/batteries) speaking...

Can't you hook up these 12 volt lighting to a solar lighting kit?  They both run 12 volts.  Any pitfalls or other issues anyone would care to bring up?   I'd really appreciate it.  Just off hand.. using these..

Shortingswitch.jpg picture by Blazzin55

on most likely in a parallel hookup instead of series.  And I'm sure I'll have to figure out how many lights if possible. Over 30 years ago, I could draw out a 'self rectified' generator and why you use both halves of the 'sign wave', but that area of my brain needs refreshing.  But going with this passive solar lighting seems to be very simple to me.  Please.. I'd love to hear the negs and possible positives in going this route.

Jeff.. to be honest.. I have often wondered where do you get all the energy have to work on all the stuff you do.  Really.. it makes me tired just to read up on the things you do in a day.

Later on today.. I shall take some pics of the pup we have here. I can't believe how much this hound dawg has grown.  I know its because he's around other animals.  That pup has two cuts on his nose and is learning all about cats.  STAY AWAY .. lol.

Morning guys!

I have a headache, just short of a migraine, which i get frequently, though this time I know the cause. I snapped my neck last night turning my head. I have a bone spur on one of the cervical vertebra that twings nerves/muscle and allows the cervicals to kind of grind against each other. I appreciate Ulrich's migraine headaches as I get 2-3 day marathon migraines. Pulling/twinges in my neck can lead to a marathon one too. Oh boy, oh joy!Grumpy

My other half took advantage of the morning coolness and cloudyness to apply the RainX to the windows of both our vans. ALso loaded/ran the dishwasher, and is curently doing all the laundry. Whew! I give thanks and praises and hand claps for those chores getting done. I can only do one or two of those done in any given day with my back the way it is, even with the pain killers and muscle relaxers. I feel bad when my other half has to help out with the household chores, but only working 12 hours this week has allowed time off to help out with the home stuff I just can't really do anymore. leasways not all at once.. SOmetimes I feel totally useless. I currently sympathize with Jeffrey's "down time" as the new muscle relaxer tends to put me to sleep as well. I feel tired and worn out just watching teh stuff get done..Sigh

The Urologist Nurse practitioner doubled my dose fo Flomax permanently and also started me on Avodart. Again, she said I do take a lot of meds that could impeed my ability to pee, but , by the way here's another to take... The Dr.s often complain I take a lot of meds (23 now) but then give me more to take!!

I have yet to try out my new GP7 Chessie Diesel, which I should do soon as if it fails to work I can take it back. IT is a xmas present to myself in JUNE that I should technically wait to xmas to run, but I can't return in the 30 day policy if I wait that long. I have to find the layout, clean tracks and at least trial run back and forth. Then I gotta figure out how to get it apart to lube the gears. Oh Joy again. They should just make it easy as screwing off the fuel tank and voila there is your gears oil away!

Other half wants to go somewhere today to be "productive" but the way the laundry piles are piled up , I think productivity is happening here on home.

Thoughts of Steamtown entered our heads again, but we got  up late and the weather today is iffy with rain and thunders howers. Oh my! I think I see the sun poking through. It is VERY humid here cause it did rain all last night. ANd not sure if htey are running the steam or waiting to run it again for the summer on June 26 with their first excursion., then run all of July and August to Labor day weekend and Rail Fest on wed-sundays.

well i see some nice work in pics shared recetnly.

Homus Ray, you are a better man than I as I would never presume I could accurately build a switch {turnout} no matter how easy they say it may be. I'd have something out of alignment for sure to wreck trains by for sure.

Well I think I go rest in bed for awhile to see if the pain meds help my head.

Have a great day guys!!!

Hello ....

Ryan... Good to see you ... I can certainly attest that two of your seasonings are outstanding. I'm surprised they are selling slowly. The Gulf situation is a  terrible mess for sure. Are getting a pair of NS high hood SD40-2's? I saw the 1:1 version in Ohio on the way here. A single unit with a long train.

Jim CG ... Yes the Cadiz S-1 looks a little dumb with a hillbilly roof over it now. If you cross a pole barn with an Alco switcher, that's the result.

Gary in MN ... Sounds like you are enjoying the research on the short line. I think modeling a short line can be more fun than a main line.

Todd ... I was trying to understand your comments on the Amtrak train. Was there a private owner car in the train?

Ray ...  The turnout turned out great! Are you switching from another brand? Big Smile

Barry .. Glad you are following doctor's advice. You should be OK.

Ulrich ... My understanding is that Germany is the best of Europe. If 250.000 are leaving Germany each year, I hate to think of how the other countries are. Over here, we have knuckleheads who think we should be like Europeans (with government) ,  and I can't understand why they feel that way. I wish you could talk to them.

Visiting family here in MI means others plan much of my time for me. Some of you may relate to that..

Where's PC?

 Good Afternoon,

turned out to be a nice day today, once the fog had lifted up. Had to run some errands -  last minute shopping for the weekend. Petra made her famous "Nudelsalat" and forgot to buy one of the most important ingredients, typical German Fleischwurst. I had finally changed my tires - it is way too warm to drive around with those fur lined winter tires Whistling

Barry - not again! Didn´t ya see the sign "No Whoopy Cushions Allowed in here!" Zoe feels kind of strict about those, as she told me recently.

Ray - good to hear, that Olivia is doing fine!

Todd - I did not mean to pass that headache on to you, but please don´t send it back. I am glad that mine is gone now.

Tim - you may want to check this page. Terrain for Trains does not seem to be a registered trade mark, but in case someone searches the web to find you, he will most likely see that page first, unless you pay Google a lot of money to move up in the listing.

Against my declared will not to tinker around with my MRR plans anymore, I did play with some thoughts again, only for budgetary reasons, however. Whenever I have saved up some bucks, an invoice pops up, which was not foreseen, but needs payment. Usually not really big amounts, but enough to nibble away my savings. So how to build a layout with nearly no money at all? Well, the answer can only be to strip the plan of all details, which are really expensive. No, I don´t mean locos and rolling stock, but turnouts or points, as the British say. So I have now come up with a "pointless" layout with point to point operation! What are the points for a pointless layout?

  • It saves space
  • It costs a lot less
  • It saves a lot of wiring

Three points pointing towards a pointless layout! All I need is about $ 25 for flex track (which I still have stashed away, but don´t let Petra know).

It seems to me, that there is now no point left to postpone the construction of this pointless layout!

Chloe, as supper time is approaching, I´ll have a bowl of Keith´s famous Polish Chili Verde soup and a beer to go with it, please.

TTFN!

Edit:

Keith - your post popped up, while i was typing mine. Your pics are the proof of what I said. You do have an excellent feeling for creating those scenes!  Thumbs Up

Garry - Germany maybe the most powerful economy in Europe, but in terms of neighborhood relations and friendliness of  people, it is not the country I grew up in any longer. Aside from that, the red tape imposed on us really kills all initiative. The procedure of setting up your own business is a killer, not only in terms of cost. The people leaving Germany behind are not the drop-outs, but the best. When people visit Germany, they only see the beauty of the country, not the struggle of the people to maintain a life under the jack boots of our rules and regulations. As long as there was enough money around, it did not seem to be a problem, but now, as things are getting really tight, it´s a different story.

That's a pretty good description of how I feel at times. It's something that most just can't understand until they experience it for themselves.

No, and I wouldn't wish it on them either. The feeling of constant "tiredness" and of "being drained" on more or less a constant basis is rather a bother for sure.A nd I am sure others are probably tired of hearing us bemoan ourselves. well they can just move on and read the good parts in our posts.

I commiserate with you , my friend. We have both had a not-so-good year this year of 2010. ANd we are only half way through.

OK, so I was wrong. 50% chance of rain. As I look outside, I'd say it's 100% so if you split the difference I was pretty close.

Ulrich- Don't worry, I won't be sinding it back or anywhere else as I still have it. Sounds like it's going around.

Keith- I am always impressed at the amount you are accomplishing on your layout each time you post a picture. It may not, to you, seem like alot, but to me it seems a LOT and quickly. What is most impressive to me is the appearence does not look like it has happened as quick. Very nice job.

Garry- What it was, the Amtrak car, was a dirty silver car, (imagine that), in amongst the other cars. I would not venture to guess what kind of car it was, coach, diner etc, as I was more trying to make out what it said in the top painted band above the windows. I used the example Santa Fe, but it could have said Pullman or anything. It was about a half mile away at the point I noticed it and angling away. I do know it was a straight sided car as opposed to the Amfleet style that was also in the train. Come to think of it, probably didn't say Santa Fe because I don't think they had a painted stripe where they printed the name.(?)

Not a big deal, but I'm always interested in the things that are more or less out of the ordinary to lend credability to me using things that are not necessarily normal to a railroad. If you know what I mean. My justification of my use of things. Also helps keep me from getting kicked out of a seat at the R.C. AC is better there.

As you can tell I haven't left yet. I guess I'll just take my headache and go anyway or I won't get a thing done. I did lay some more paving to the grade crossing I've got it to the height now, so after it dries and some sanding and a bit of touchup and I should be good to go for THAT.

Oh, while I was typing I see Jerry slid a photo in Thumbs UpThumbs Up

EDIT- Jerry! I am impressed. When I first found the mirror, I thought it was for the right track only. Only after closer scrutiny and a few rubs of the eyes, did I realize the mirror is under the whole bridge. TripleThumbs Up for the setup of that shot!

 LUNCH!!!

The house appraisal went good.  The guy said the inside looked real good.  Just a few spots we need to fix outside (chipped paint).   We won't know what its worth till next week.  Hopefully its worth something.

Now I'm on my way to the LHS.  See what I can find to do.

Here's a few pictures.   One is the house, one is the rose bushes we always get compliments on, and the paint I have to fix on the garage.  I plan on painting the whole garage.  This would be the best time for that!!.

 Jerry..... GREAT shot!!

Robby P. - that´s a nice house you have there! In our neck of the woods, you´d be in the range of $ 250,000 to 300,000 for a house of this size. Real estate is so much more expensive here Sad

Ulrich......Thanks!!   Even the "brother in law" said a house like that would be $150,000+ in Florida.   We got it for $50,000.   The pictures aren't to bright.  Its been raining all day.  Maybe on a sunny day I can get some better shots.

The house is four bedrooms (we use a small bedroom for a comp. room). One bathroom, and the bathroom in the basement (not finished).  A full attic, with WALK UP stairs.  Not those junky pull down ladders.  I've had my close share on them!!!  Full (new) kitchen.  Dinning room, and living room.  It also has a two car garage.   Oh........A full basement/train room/my man cave!!  The house is also on a double lot.

We get a lot of compliments on the house.  Just wish we had more money to put into it.
