 Its afternoon already??

Well I've been working on my next weathering projects, and the plant.   I got one car faded, and the other car is getting grimed up right now.  The cement plant is about done, other than adding some scenery.   Here's a shot of it.

I had to paint the part I painted black all over again.   It turned out better this time.  I also bought a cement truck today from the LHS.   Of course it will get a bit dirty also Mischief.

 Good afternoon...

Rain rain go away! We be looking at ark-building how-to's. Baseball was washed-out last night, softball likely will this evening as well. Oh well, I've got some other content for THAT...so THAT means the possibility of some RR Room time.

ROBBY P: I'm liking the cement plants Thumbs Up I'm also really liking the Budweiser ad...I remember it oh so well...Whistling

JEFF: Glad the gas tank issue was resolved, and THAT it is being installed. Your nephew sounds like he's "busy doing something close to nothing" as the "musician" formerly known as Prince once sang. Or, perhaps he's "too busy doing nothing" as was said in the movie "Trinity is my name." Maybe you should deduct beers from the total stash as the hours tick away until completion...

VINCENT: I've got the wide-vision coupla boxed...if you still need it, shoot me a PM on how to get it to you.

We've got lightning about, and we're getting zapped...so shutting down.

A good, DRY and SAFE day to all...

"Coffee and Morning to all Diners!"

Yeah yeah.. we had another earthquake.  A small one.  I know last time I said to all of you,  Native Californians take the earthquakes with ease.  Its the people that are not used to them, that panic. So,  if you saw on the news the baseball going on during the quake, well, you saw people laughing and just riding it out.  Although, if it was a shaker.. that might have been a different story.

This one was more of a rolling one,  continuous and steady.  It lasted for 45 seconds and nothing really bad.  I kept waiting for something stronger or at least gaining in momentum... but nah.. just a small one.  When it happened I said to Jeanne.. 6.2.. 200 miles away.  Well I was close,  but it was only a 5.7.  Nothing like the last one.  That last one,  I've never imagined a cavern with large rocks or bolders tumbling.  I've never felt / heard one like that last one.  The sound of bolders falling deep inside the earth was a bit much~

That one that hit Alaska in the mid sixties,  well that one lasted for 5  minutes.  Can you imagine shaking for that long?  Now that Sylmar quake.. well since then..  after a min, you start to wonder if its going to get bigger.  The Sylmar earthquake, it lasted over a minute and seemed to get stronger after each jolt.  I still remember that morning,  all I wanted to do was go back to sleep, but the after shocks were just as bad, I finally got up 30 minutes later.

Now as far as my layout goes,  well the small details are getting to me.  Its just about time to put the diorama on the shelf and work on it in between gluing times of other projects.

Yes the small details.. no not the ones on the diorama.  The things to come~

Oh.. like wiring the train yard tracks.. even the weathering of the yard tracks.  Maybe I surprise everyone with boring pics of my train yard.  I actually layered it with small changes in elevation.  With the newest main line.. the highest.. then graduation on down each level from second main line to the train yard.  As you all know, I'm trying to fight the 'flatness of a layout'.  Thats all folks.  I'll be sitting in the corner reading up on a few posts.

I just wish I had something good to post! .. lol.

Jeffrey, daylight or beer.....???Whistling

Daylight. He hasn't been allowed to even look at the beer yet. He'll get it when the job is done to my satisfaction.

Jeff, sounds like the nephew showed up yesterday. What was his response when he found out about how much beer you had (or did you tell him)? You just might have your van up and running before the end of the month. Yeah!!

Yeah, he showed up near dark. His response was astonishment. He considers me a miser because I can live off of less than $700 a month and he spends more than that in two weeks.

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a #2 special, scrambled, wheat toast and blackberry jam, and a Rio Grande mug of coffee, please 'n' thankyouMa'am. Smile

Robby P.
Thanks for the comments.  Its a Walthers "cornerstone" kit.

Ah, Robby, it's the one they call some kind of asphalt plant! I didn't recognize it from the other angle. On the beams, yeah, I definitely want them a darker grey than that, plus the rusting. Our MRR club member/LHS owner has one of those 'asphalt' companies on his layout, I'd noticed (last time I was by and saw the layout).

Speaking of the MRR club, last night it was too hot Cool in the clubroom space (don't have the A/C vents or the drop ceiling in yet), as we got to upper 90's (F) and a heat index around 103-105 F during the day. It had NOT cooled down much by 7 p.m. So we sat around a little while and talked about what needed to be done to get the A/C ductwork in, or otherwise how to get the painting done. [Edit] (We were in another room up there that IS air-conditioned, by the way). Well, short of our one idea - show up about 6 a.m. before it gets really hot! - we didn't get lots more done last night. I picked up my order of 3 of the Accurail 40' boxcars I'd ordered (the CP, SP and another D&RGW). The SP one has a '62 rebuild/reweigh year on it, and the lettering I know is the later SP style, but I'll paint over that (and the rebuild/reweigh year - the original build year was '54, I think) and get the older round SP logo decals for that.

Jeff, sounds like the nephew showed up yesterday. What was his response when he found out about how much beer you had (or did you tell him)? You just might have your van up and running before the end of the month. Yeah!!

Ulrich, have added your mother's health to the Angel list (and you're already on mine).

Galaxy, hope you get feeling better, hopefully in time to make that trip to the Windmill farm. Angel

Ray, your meeting sounded like fun, and getting to see a number of friends you knew for a while (Notice that I did not say 'old friends'...) Wink

Bill T., good to see you back in again. Yeah!!

Todd, no matter what was suggested, I'd hesitate about drinking (or having a spoonful dry) of the FL Rub. Shock May your power stay on all day today.

PA Tom, I understand that wives are like that (about the being out-manuevered)...Whistling (But I'll let our married Diners confirm or deny about THAT...) Smile,Wink, & Grin Hope you do get some time this week to try the camera out on a railfan trip, though.

I'll grab a spot at the window booth and watch the morning switcher doin' its thing out there. Prayers continue for all of us in need of comfort, healing, and other things.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Strongest cup of coffee we have in a  UNION PACIFIC  mug, please.

***Lee, Thanks! Can you also tell me if basic MRC decoders for N scale are any good?

And which brand makes a cheap, yet decent sounding decoder/speaker combo for HO scale? Still need to add sound to the wife's Bach 2-8-0. Thanks again for any guidance,

Still waiting on the Slowest Online Vendor in model RR'ing history to deliver stuff for the wife's layout. When it finally arrives, I'll be busy working on the wife's layout again. Not that there isn't a TON of stuff to do in the meantime. Just no energy at all recently. Guess eating Mexican food at night doesn't help with insomnia.Dunce

A couple of weeks ago my digital camera went belly up. Yesterday while we were out grocery shopping and running errands, the wife suggested I get another one. I thought it best not to get into an arguement about it, so I said "Yes dear" and made that the next stop.

Unfortunately, it's a very dismal day here as the rain has returned. So my railfanning plans for this morning have been put on hold. Too bad, as I was anxious to try the new camera out. Even worse, she has suggested a few chores that need doing inside. I think I've been out manuvered somehow. Of course, I get that feeling a lot.

Oh well, better go and get started. Everybody have a good one.

Morning. Coffee and a regular stack of Flapjacks please. Yup good ole maple syrup. They talk funny, but boy they sure have good syrup out there. Thanks. Whew, Rob had Enchiladas, rice and beans at 10 o'clock at night. 11 for him. Hope the windows were open.

Ya know, I do believe there are waaay more folks who enjoy Model Railroading the way most of us do, than the ones who bark "perfect prototypical or die you toy train playing hobby killer."

Well I remember what I was going to say last night. But now, it's not worth bringing up.

Robby- Nice cement plant. Did you notice you seem to lean towards grungy dirty things on the layout, yet, you took a job at a car wash? Laugh

Ulrich- I'm sorry. Pray I will.Angel

Well I know what I need/ want from the LHS. BUT..., can't get there for at least the week or so it seems. Just too much stuff going on. Next week hopefully things will calm a bit. Jim noticed I have been getting into Toddland (of which I'm king) more lately. Usually a couple of hours in the morning is my home time. So between laundry, picking up around the house, killing them little sugar ants when we get a sudden invasion like this morning and the like, I try to pop in and do at least something. Even if it's just look or something small like maybe attach one piece on a model, a splop drywall mud or a couple of spoons of ballast.

That being said I believe I will head there now and see what I can do. W**k will take up most of the day today. Plus we are suppose to have storms popping up all over. Today will be they day we lose power. The day I can't get home to start the generator. Oh well, the layouts 40" and, like Lee, the important stuff is in plastic tubs.

Hmm, Robby suggests drinking my Finger Lickin Rub. Hmmmm, I wonder........ FLO! Can I get a spoon please?

Have a Great Day!!!

Good morning.  Its going to be a on and off rainy day.

I was thinking about making a LHS run today.  Maybe pick up a "weathering" project.  I haven't weathered anything in a few weeks.  Plus I need some money Mischief.  Maybe later I can try to finish up the smaller cement plant today also.

 Ray.......Thanks!!

Todd......Frosted flakes?  McDonalds?  How about just drinking it Big Smile.

Ulrich......I hope it all works out.

I will pop back in later.

Good morning all,

Rob,
with DCC they will all be speed stepped and matched so they should run no problem.

Ulrich, truly sorry to hear about your mother…..

Keith, if the jaw looks like a lab then it might have a mix of mastiff or Dane.  Regardless of the breeds the puppy WILL grow into those feet.  May I recommend naming him Moose……?

MOrning guys

Did not feel well stomach wise yesterday and in a lot of pain all over-wondering if I'm coming down with something with vomiting and diarrhea.

SO i got no work on the train room done yesterday, but I did find a large box in which to put things! Then I tuckered out.

still not feeling well today but did manage to have bacon and eggs for breakfast, and it seems to be staying down- so far.

My other half wants to go today to the Windmill farm...halfway between here and HOWMUS RAY, but I'm not feeling up to it yet anyway. about 1.5+ hour trip. SO we will see. WEve seen it advertised on TV alot, supposed to be crafts vendors and artists and the like there.

Ulrich, we will add prayers over the prayer candle for your mother, and for others who need special thoughts and prayers today.

Jeffrey, at least you got taht far on the gas tank, Thumbs Up, did nephew help you at all?

Well guys, have a great day.

 Hi Folks,

have not been in here for a few days, as I am haunted by too much worries. My Mom is back in hospital, as the docs have found cancer of the colon in her. Her heart condition does not allow for any surgery, so all we can do is hope and pray.

Zoe, just a cup of coffee for me, please.

I´ll be back later.

Plate of enchiladas, rice & beans, please.

***Robby, both those plants look great, especially with those weathered cars under them. Only thing I would like to see added would be larger copies of "that" Budweiser sign here and there.TongueLaugh

Question: If I had several DCC (N scale) locos with different decoders (Athearn Bigboy, Proto Mallet, and let's say a converted old Concor gas turbine), how easy or difficult would it be to make them all run together as a tripple header? Still have not purchased a DCC system, but am heavily leaning towards doing so soon. Just thinking ahead a bit.

Cheers! -Rob

Was going to say something but now I forgot what it was. Oh well

Prayers for those in need.

Evenin' folks!

Flo just a cup of decaf please.

Robby, nice w*rk on the industries!

Jeffrey, daylight or beer.....???Whistling

Just got home from the local Boy Scout Council's annual Council recognition dinner and election.  Local is nlow pretty much based in Rochester, NY.  It covers 6 counties in NYS.  Since I am the representative from the Presbyterian Church in Geneva, I am a voting member of the council.   Got to see a lot of people I haven't seen in a while.  One person was the scribe from my Woodbadge Course back in 1993...  He was 81 at that time (I'll let you do the math).  He is a Fox Patrol member like myself.  He was introduced with two other gentlemen who represented over 180 years of service to Scouting.

I got to sit with several old friends form my district along with our District Executive and his wife.  He got married a little over two years ago.  Turns out his wife was one of my students way back when.....  They make a great couple!

I have to turn in a bit early tonight as I need to be out at the R&GV RR Museum bright and early tomorrow to play Docent for about an hour and a half.  Then I can come home and start to mow the lawn.  may even get a few minutes in the train room if I am lucky???

Hope you all have a great night!

The new gas tank is strapped up under the van and the fill line is connected but we ran out of daylight. Tomorrow the vent line, suction line and return line will be connected. Then the return line will be reconnected to the fuel filter up front. It's blocked off right now.

Good evening.  It was a looooong day at work, so this will be a quick stop.

Jim........Thanks for the comments.  Its a Walthers "cornerstone" kit.   It was $40.00.   I was going to use this kit for the cement trucks, with a small siding for hoppers.   The other cement plant is the main one for cement.  It has three sidings.   As far as your beams, I would darken them a bit, and rust the ends up Wink

The new plant (smaller one)

 The old plant (bigger one).

I get it now...I just have never heard of them or seen them here in Upstate N.Y and I OWN an inground...I have the old tried and true earth filter which when working properly gives me crystal clear water...ahhh...don't forget the chemicals!!...I will have to ask my pool guy about the salt pool...all my pipes are plastic..

Sounds like a nice idea, but those who have them {salt water pools} seem to be clear on one thing: if you have any burns, nicks, cuts etc, the salt WILL find them and you know what they say about salt in a wound...if you haven't experienced it. Just to alert you. SOme have also reported problems with maintaining them just about as much as a regular pool.

Zoe, could I have a BLT with a RBF and cheesey fries for lunch, please. Thanks again!

Or should I have said, Good Morning, Gravel? (Been catching up some more on the past pages I'd missed. (chuckle)

Jerry, check your email in a few days (once I find those articles I have on turntables). Might be useful for you...

Keith, nice dawg your boy has thar. And I hope that sandy-colored dog doesn't get fricaseed with your lighting gear on him/her. Smile,Wink, & Grin

Looks like somebody has a lot of extra time on his hands. Tim, should I send you some kits to put together? Wink Just kiddin'...

Ulrich, on that recycle thing, our city's arrangement (for houses, suprisingly they don't make apartments or business places do it) is the homeowners are to separate, and the city's trucks have compartments for each of the three kinds (maybe like you mentioned, I'm not sure).

I noticed we've had a few Diners lose their furry companions - sorry to read of your losses, JP and PC. Angel

Lee, great to read about your son and his (good) attitude about helping others. Now, how can we transfer that to more people? (Hey, what's this SoapBox doing under my feet?)

Think I'll get back to lunch now, before I get my other foot-in-mouth...

Hi all!

 Milk and a steak, Chloe.

Sorry I have not been around much anymore, and it is good to see everyone and the diner still here. Stuff is still the same around here. We have a new pool, family is healthy, but dad is about to get laid off. The good news is that he has found a prospective offer, and he is pursuing it.

On the railroad front, nothing much happened. I got a Bachman 70T, a 25 ton crane kit, and some more track, and I have worked on a revised track plan.

See yall later,

Alrighty, well here's the basic rundown on Sonfest: Went on the Intimidator first, it is AWESOME! Basically it's a souped up Thunder Road with a bunch of hills but no loops (although you do go sideways several times) and every drop makes your stomach feel weightless. the restraint is basically a thing that covers your legs and holds you in but you can kick your legs still and there's no upper body restraint, so that's probably why you feel almost weightless. We also road the rapids (bad choice; got soaked), Afterburn (used to be called Topgun), Thunder Road, and the Hurler. then we went to the concert. To start things off Manic Drive came out. there weren't that many people there but Manic Drive was AWESOME so those people missed out. The skit guys (www.skitguys.com) were next and they were HILARIOUS! I think remedy Drive was supposed to play next but apparently their bus broke down or something. Then Tenth Avenue North came out and were awesome, basically just a faster-paced worship concert. After that Family Force 5 played, and they're kindof like a techno rock and roll group; basically do a bunch of crazy stuff. I was jumping up and down and head-banging and all that and basically it was just one big party for an hour. Then the speaker matt Pitt came out, then the host Bone Hampton did stand-up for a bit while they set up for the Newsboys, then the Newsboys closed it out. they have Michael Tate from DC Talk and you can see the change; their new CD isn't much like the old stuff, butt hey still play some of the old songs. and they also remade Jesus freak. so yeah, awesome day!

Strong coffee in a  SANTA FE  mug, please.

***Vincent, Congrats on the nice haul there!

***Keith, [Lab mix with German shepard... and maybe a little Rott] So, we have a dog that loves to grab things with it's mouth (Lab), makes a great Police dog (GS), and a dog with crushing power in it's jaws (Rott)....y'all have fun with 'em!Laugh (just teasin' with you, actually sounds like a pretty trainable dog)

***Philip, how's your family doing?

Question: If I had several DCC locos (N) with different decoders (Athearn Bigboy, Proto Mallet, and let's say converted an old Concor gas turbine), how easy/difficult would it be to make them all run together as a tripple header? Just thinking ahead at some options.

A couple evenings ago I forgot I had water running from the barn tank. Lost about 1200 gallons. Praying for lots of rain ASAP. Will have to rotate critters in a couple days and my work load will increase. Why did I ever try to do more than one thing that evening without wearing a twist-em around my finger to remind me of the water, (which I usually do). Sigh!

Our pool had an earth filter on it since the late 60's. As you said they do a fantastic job when they're working right. They can be of so finicky at times. We replaced it with a sand filter within the last 10 years. Lots less maintenance.

Jeff....Why the need for a salt water pool?...I am stumped there..Is it for an ocean effect?

A salt water pool (different type of salt than that found in sea water) is easier to maintain as it doesn't need all those expensive chemicals to keep the water clean, ph correct, acid levels to worry about, etc, etc.

A true friend will not bail you out of jail...he will be sitting next to you saying "that was friggin awesome dude!" Tim...Modeling the NYC...is there any other?

Galaxy, ya had to go and mention hoarding, didnja? [ouch!] (Well, I have been starting on my own (smaller-than-whatever-they-showed-on-the-show, I hope)

Yep,.I did mention the unmentionable. Hoarding. Those on the show can barely walk through their houses let alone anything else. SOme have even kept every scrap of real trash over the years. Others just buy more stuff than they have room for, and pack it in floor to ceiling. I knew an old woman like that once she had stuff in boxes floor to ceiling with a path through every room. My train room is the "Catch all" and the  "pretend it's the extra closet we don't have" room also. I pushed the issue to get teh small HO layout in there in the first place. SO IT really doesn't belong but the room needs cleaning anyway. I blame american consumerism and the need to keep buying new things made by new countries for the american hoarding and keeping issues, and the fact taht we have spare money and extra rooms in our houses. If we lived in Dung Huts, and had only money for food and clothing..... MAny of us MRR's Whistling have three times as many as twice the trains we can reasonably run, and heaven forbid we should all only have 4x8's, instead it must be a whole basement or garage! Wink

Oh well, the land fills are full enough already.

Sigh

Ray,  I thank you for your kind words.  Lord knows I try everyday~  Today's lesson I explained to my son, the dog's name shall always be associated with love and kind words.  Not 'Buddy NO!'  But with his name being associated with those 'Doggy Bones'.  Everytime I've gotten him to come to me this morning with love,  hugs, and Doggie Bones, he comes hopping along and I give him love and hugs.. and he's happy.. and I know he's learning.   You can judge a dog by how smart he/she is,  by just seeing how many times it takes before the messages are received.  (received as in Keith.. the ei's are the same)  So anyways.. like one of the small collie's?, usually it takes a maximum of 8 times before the dog understands.  Some dogs it takes 30 times or more.  But imagine a dog that only takes 8 times over.. before it has understood something of the message.

Now concerning that pitbull pup.. I wish I could tell ya.  I asked my son over and over concerning this pup.  Is it a pitbull or not?  He said.. "The person at the rescue shelter said Lab mix with German shepard... and maybe a little Rott?"

lol.. oh great.

If this is a Pitbull.. its going to be one big tall one.  This pup will out size our Husky and thats a pretty tall dog.  His head is more like a brown lab and his coat and tail has shadings of German Shepard.  His paws are gigantic which leads me to believe he's got some Pitbull in him, but his legs are so long,  its similiar to Great Dane.  His paws mouth and eye markings are all black,  similar to the German Shepard or Rott.. lol.

My son has worked in animal shelters before and animals do seem to like him.  I think with some careful insight to my son,  and I know he listens,  I think the two of them shall do great.  But Ray,  I hear ya on that .. "Its how they are raised"  Gigo

Oh, Jeff - any sign of the nephew yet today, or would he be up this early? Smile,Wink, & Grin Hope you enticed him enough with the offer of free beer, so that he gets what you need done for the gas tank on the van.

No, it's not quite time for him to be up and around yet. He can't seem to leave those 2 and 3 am parties alone.

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a Santa Fe mug of coffee and a cinnamon roll, please. Thanks!

Tried to stop by last night, but my electronic magic carpet was crawling along, so I never got into the Diner to say 'Hi'.

Was going to show what I actually got done over the weekend that was MRR-related. A couple of 40-footer boxcars and a 50' as well,

and started painting some I-beams and H-columns for gondola loads:

But I will likely wash off the paint - not dark enough, and I will likely get a can of a dark grey, primer perhaps. In the future, I will get the dark grey plastic like Robby's were made of - less foolin' around with painting the base color.

Speaking of Robby, I also like your roads. Thumbs Up And who makes that cement plant, by the way? And congratulations (I think?) on your wife's going back to college. Having done something like that, I can sympathize with her on that. (Now, will that mean that you have to be extra quiet when w**king on the layout in the evenings? Whistling)

Vincent - good score on the train show there (and on the loco, as well) - sounds like a good weekend overall for you. Yeah!!

Galaxy, ya had to go and mention hoarding, didnja? [ouch!] (Well, I have been starting on my own (smaller-than-whatever-they-showed-on-the-show, I hope)

Todd, sounds like you have been getting to your basement more often lately (and making good use of that time, I might add..).Wink

I see PC's been by (after seeing that, I knew I'd better get in and post something so you didn't send the hounds hunting for me Shock).

I think it was Lee - right? or was it you, Chris? who had got some of the LED's. I decided to get me a couple of sets so I could get to lighting my buildings (once things get closer to that point, at least). Have to test them out and mark which is the anode yet, maybe later this week in the evenings.

Ulrich, sounds like an enjoyable visit with your son and his girlfriend (and she can cook, which is good, yes? Smile,Wink, & Grin). Here on this side of the pond, it's head-for-the-beach season, as well, whether it's the lake, river, or other body of water.

MRR clubroom progress has been coming along. The walls are mudded and ready for painting, so that'll be tonight's business at the meeting. I'll have to borrow a roller brush and pan - one thing I haven't needed since my divorce (left that at the old house). I think I remember how to use one of those roller things...Whistling

Have a new printer coming in today (single-function, just a printer - to replace the all-in-one that I returned to Wally World yesterday; dang thing went through both the black and the color cartridges inside of 3 weeks, sheesh! Thumbs Down). This printer had better be more economical on ink, and it also does double-sided prints (which saves me on paper, and storage). Should hear today about how soon I'll have the laptop back (hopefully, this week). I've already checked and found on Amazon a supplier for replacement (i.e., affordable!) printer cartridges for it (the kinds that have a chip so the printer will recognize the cartridges).

I'll be at the window booth, catching up with the others.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau
