Success! Wow!!Thumbs Up The Reese hitch is now a separate item from the receiver on the truck!!!  I just spent the last hour hitting it back and forth in the tube, adding PB Blaster a couple of times (it has been soaking in it for over a week now), and tightening the Come Along keeping about a ton of pressure on it.  It had started to move a bit last night right before I left for my Deacons Meeting.  Now I just need to clean it up a bit and take over to where the trailer is.  Told ya I would win this one!

Evenin' Folks!

Flo I'll have the BBQed Chicken Platter tonight.  Probably should have a cup of decafe to go along with THAT as well.

Todd and Barry thank you!  This one was not as bad as the one I had rusted in about 10 or so years ago.  I swear this time I have learned my lesson!  This is the offending hitch.  It weighs in around 40 lbs. and is solid steel.  It is rated for a 10,000 lb. trailer and can take over a ton of weight on the hitch itself.  There are torson bars (already with the trailer) to round out the assembly.  I cleaned it up with a wire brush and scapper.  Didn't touch the crud, so I got out the belt sander and smoothed it back down to bare steel.

Hopefully the guy who will be pulling the trailer will stop by tonight and I can say, "Bye, bye" to it!

Chicken is ready so I will catch you all later!

Evening all. Chloe, I'll take a RBF, thanks. So, it's been eventful. I think I mentioned how I didn't play on Saturday because I got cross-checked in the ribs (which, in case you were wondering, yes, it IS illegal). The trainer told me they were bruised and not to play. Anyways, I was feeling fine on Tuesday, so she told me I could play as long as it wasn't bothering me. So after playing the first and part of the second quarter, I was standing on the sideline and suddenly thought I was gonna puke and was really lightheaded. So the trainer checks me out and says that the rib may have been cracked, and playing (even though I didn't get hit) may have made it move. So she calls my mom and has her come pick me up (it was an away game, BTW). So we go to the hospital closer to home, and of course, sit there for over an hour before even getting looked at. They finally take xrays, and tell me nothing's broken, just badly bruised. Great, not like they told me something I didn't know already... So now my coach doesn't want me to play for the rest of the season, just so I don't risk anything. Now that's two seasons of high school lacrosse, and two seasons of high school lacrosse that I didn't finish. *sigh* And even though nothing's broken, it still hurts a heck of a lot... I guess I'll stop ranting now. Well, I gotta go finish homework, but I'll be back to catch up later.

Evening ya'll

I got a package fo detail parts today. Bunch of A-line stirrups and a Detail associates kit for an Atlas U33C. I installed the detail kit, but I didn't go crazy with it. I just used it for the MU hoses and grab irons. I would have used the coupler cut bar, but several of the mounts got launched into the stratosphere. Next time I do one of those older U-boats, I'l get a few 18" drop grabs, and a package of DW MU hoses.

Also did a bunch more prep work on the car. Doing it in the florida sun isn't the most comfortable thing, but atleast I'm closer to getting it painted.

Ray, Glad that struggle is finally over

Randy, Sign - Welcome

ouch joe, I know that feeling man. this past rugby season I ended it like I didn't want to. our final game I was just a body on the field, I made maybe two tackles. I had hurt my shoulder against irmo by squashing it (I told y'all abt this in the earlier diners) between the field and my body, and best to what we can guess I bruised the muscle. so anyways I tried to make tackles and ruck our final game but couldn't, so I was just a body on the field. and we actually had to borrow a player to field 15 for that game, so I couldn't come out. not the way I wanted to go out. can't imagine the pain of a bruised rib, ouch man.

JOE: I had a "real genius" at Amana who somehow managed to bang his ribs against a guardrail. He complained of pain, etc. so I sent him for X-Rays. He came back with ER note saying "bruised." They put him back to w**k. He continued to claim pain, really milked it for all it was worth. Our Doc (the fill-in-the-blank who got me fired) finally looked at him, said the pain was going on too long; and sent him for a 2nd X-Ray. This time, they found a barely visible hairline fracture. What I'm getting at, is you "could" have a fracture, just not easily seen even with X-Ray.

KEITH: Didn't you do X-Rays? You wanna weigh-in on this?

RAY: Glad THAT thing finally came out! I'd dance around too, but watching TODD flat wore me out.

Just catching up the last couple of pages...

Sam, definately on the prayer list. THAT F-word (No, not THAT other one! geez guys...) is better than the L-word, but it's still bad.

Sign - Welcome Randy!

Todd, nice bridge

Keith, I like the progress!

Ulrich, THAT sounds like fun... Hope you're feeling better.

Hmm, sound's like Ray has finally won the war. I hear cries of victory...

Chris, I guess stuff like THAT just slips through the cracks (no pun intended) sometimes.
And ya gotta love geniouses like THAT... DOH!

Well, I definately won't be in tomorrow because I have a game (unfortunately, I'll just be watching) and then a sweet sixteen. I might be in on Saturday, depending on how much homework I can get done before the next party that night! Yeah yeah yeah, party animal, if you say so...

Catch ya guys later.

Tall glass of water, please.

I'll try to catch up this weekend. Had a very disappointing visit with the new Doc. About the only option left is to see this out of state (and very expensive) Doc who offers an unconventional approach to treatment. Not sure what I will do yet.

On the MRRing front, have done 3 pours on the wife's (HO) pond and it still needs more. Very slow drying stuff. Painted the fence for around the church, too. That's about it.

Still haven't finished building the last of the garden pots. Determined to finish those this weekend so wife can finish planting the remaining veggies.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Ray.. I didn't want to say anything about that trailer hitch.. but .. ya know~  I was just itchin to tell ya to try 'All Purpose Farmer's Stump Removal'.. about a 1/8 stick should have done it.

LOL.. Chris.. are you gonna wake up to something.. ~  Good morning reading~!

"KEITH: Didn't you do X-Rays? You wanna weigh-in on this? "

Sure.. you want it all?   Mixed emotions on it all.  But here's the long version.

1.  I wouldn't have had the x-rays.  There's nothing you can do for broken ribs.  Well maybe tell you want you already suspected.  But most people know when they have broken ribs.. and in the event.. the final conculsion would have been to have had a simple 2 view chest x-ray. PA and Lateral. In which they end up doing if they had found broken ribs.   If damage to the inside lining (plueral).. or the membrane/lining in between.. i.e. next to the lungs,is damaged.. a thin gray area developes.. blood that is slightly filled in between the two linings..  would be read out on the dictation as a ;'contusion' within the chest lining.. and shows up as a thin gray line/area.  Follow the lungs down  along the lung verses lining..and the curve of each rib..  you would look for any break in continuity.. and the gray area shows up.

2.  I hate to say it.. but If you did have x-rays. I sure hope the x-ray tech placed a B.B. on the area that you hurt.  Its a medical / x ray bb about the size of the head of a pin.. or less.  Then the doc can see exactly where the patient hurts.  Even a leaded pencil.. and the tech writes on the x ray request..  'pencil marks area' of pain.  Not on the paitent.. but at least pointing to it.

3.  Most ribs x-rays are not done correctly.  In order to demonstrate a rib fracture.. you have to roll them up on a very steep angle ... to the point the patient is in tears. and would rather give you his SS number..  Even special consideration should be taken as to be done on expiration or inspiration.. or both.

 4. Any suspected punctured lung would result in a decubitus (left lateral)  x ray .. for possible air / fuild levels displacement.  In the event of a puntured.. lung.. or a cat scan.

Ah forget it.. by then.. I'd be telling the M.D.  "Doc.. Less is best~"  "Lets leave it alone"

In the old days.. they would wrap em up.. and then the person could contain themselves without using too many muscles.. just trying to function.  But then again.. most people would build up fluid in the lungs... and so.. its just best to leave it alone.  Although.. If I had to get some sleep.. and needed some support.. I might consider a strip of Duct Tape.. "There.. that shoud do~"  about two 5 inch strips.  But what a bugger to take off.  I wouldn't.. on second thought.  An ace bandage.. for support.. but there ya go again ..running the risk of building fluid.

On a side note.. what do you think heals bones?  Ever wonder.. oh sure.. 8 essentials amino acids.. (protein)..  milk cheese.. but in the end.. running jumping.. bouncing.  If you don't  Osteoporosis sets in.  I must admit.. It took a few years.. before I really realized.. even a 19 year old male.. soccer player.. breaks a leg. just having a cast on.. makes the bones weaker.  Who so?  Running jumping bouncing.. makes stronger bones.

So don't sit around.. go jogging.. and if .. by chance.. I can lightly.. back hand you on the ribs.. and you don't squeal like a stuck pig.. then .. you're cured.

Allied health personel  believe that .. most people when they get health insurance.. run to the doctor for every little scratch.   They run up a bill fast.

Most dangerous things in a doctors hands.. are a pen and prescription pad.

Good morning all,

OK I think I’m at the end of my spending spree! New suit, new driveway apron, sidewalk repairs, train show, and today the garage door repair guy is coming out today to replace both center springs.  I think I deserve a toy when all of this is taken care of, maybe one of those Big Boy’s from Walther’s????  Never mind, I’m sure something around the house will break…..

I plan on locking myself in the train room for the better part of the weekend.  78F and sunny today, tonight rain, chance of tornados, high winds, then possibly snow for Saturday.

Randy welcome to the diner!

Keith, looks like things are coming together nicely for you….

Jeff, steak sounds good, but this month’s budget only has room for Mac & Cheese and hotdogs, LOL!

I won´t stay long, don´t want to pass whatever I am having onto anyone of you. To say I am feeling miserable is bragging. Third night without sleep - I guess I should see  a doctor on this one.

Have a good one, all of you!

Goooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood Mornin', bucket of coffee to go, extra boot.

KEITH: I knew I could count on you for a short answer!Smile,Wink, & Grin I pretty much ruled-out any chance of hemo/pneumothorax when I assessed the idiot. But the Mechanism of Injury (MOI) suggested a possible fracture, which in an occupational setting makes a huge difference. I neglected to mention I got my butt chewed on for sending the moron for X-rays the first time. When our linguini spined doc sent him for the 2nd set...and it came back with a fracture, I was vindicated. I think THAT's part of why they canned me: I would err on the side of caution, and it almost always proved correct. They would've preferred I just push ibuproffen (I know, one of your all-time "favorite" meds...) down their throats and slap ice on 'em. I preferred to do my job, i.e.: be an advocate for my patients, and act in the patient's best interest. I was told way, way, way back in my First Responder training "if you always act in the best interest of the patient, you will always be alright." Yup...THAT sure worked out.

Of course they then give you a test taking tip: "NEVER pick an answer with 'always' or 'never' in it."

Sheesh!

LEE: I think somebody is confused....it's IOWA where you can have a tornado one day and a blizzard the next...

ULRICH: I recommend RAY's cold/flu therapy. Hope you shake whatever THAT is quick!

Gotta go, got "face time" with THAT Editor this morning, a feature on a new church in North Liberty, and maybe...a track meet down the road in Tipton this afternoon; IF it don't get rained-out.

Have a good, SAFE day everybody...

Chris,

You are correct, but I forgot to mention the storm is comming from Iowa and the Dakotas and heading to PA and the Finger Lakes.

Lee

Actually the weather map shows a real nasty looking part of the storm heading right toward Barry!  We should get some rain and wind from it here in the Finger Lakes Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday I have a Church retreat to go to.  It will be held at a very old historic church just outside of Geneva.  They have a very comfortable separate building for their "Social Hall".  This is a church planning retreat we have every 20 years or so where most of the attendees sing, "We've always done it this way before, We'll always do it this way therefore!"  (The Presbyterian Hymn sung to the tune of the old Onehundredth.)

Today I mail back my Sales Tax Authority Document as I am no longer in business.  File my "final return" last night electronically.  So I am officially finished with the business as soon as I get the thing mailed.  It will go registered mail......

Well, I best get moving and go to the post office.

Later!

Good morning all. Coffee, waffles and bacon please. Wow, Ray beat me in. I figured he'd sleep in after the hitch thing. I did. Finally got to sleep about 2 am and then slept til almost 8:30 Head is stopped up but I feel like I've slept anywayThumbs Up. I think it might rain. It looks like it couldThumbs Down.

Thanks for the encouragement on the bridge and tunnel. Like I said it isn't done and the flash....., well if I don't use a flash then it looks dark and has yet a different tone. Kinda pinkish. Weird camera. Or..., more than likely the operator just doesn't know how to use it.

May end up in the basement a bit later for another layer of plaster for the hillside, maybe. Probably. I'll leave from here to go down there. More than likely. I hope.

Noon time ...

Soup and salad, please.

Our lake is still rising and is expected to reach its highest level in history this week end. Recrational boating has been banned at least through Monday. Some roads near the lake are now under water.  The lake surface is now 369' above sea level. The top of the dam is 375', and obviously, the lake can not get much higher becasue of that.

Below, the lake is seen getting near the corner of the house. The white door leads to my workshop. The layout is also on the lower level.  Normally, we walk downhill for at least 150's from this corner to get to the edge of the water.

Robby, thanks! well, today was great. school wasn't too bad, and I made a 95 on the test yesterday that took me till 4 minutes to the bell. and the teacher curved it and my grade was highest, so I made a 101 b/c there was also a confusing question that I got right so I got a freeby point for that. so yeah, good day. and then hung out w/ my grandma after school. she got me a Full throttle energy drink and cape Cod salt/vinegar potato chips and also got me as a treat two bags of woodland scenics turf, and also two foam board sheets that I'm HOPEFULLY going to use for the last two buildings in North branch that must be scratchbuilt. Also went by the music store in the mall and Demon Hunter's new CD is out (their best and one of the best christian heavy metal cds haha) and it was the same cost as all the stuff I got, so DERN! but hopefully I'll be able to buy it soon.

Evenin' Folks!

Chloe just a cup of decafe in a R&GV Mug please.  I'll go sit in the back and relax for a while.

Spent about an hour this afternoon digging out some "sport" garlic out of the garden and anticipation of rototilling it next week. Yes I love garlic but this is stuff THAT came up originally from the peelings of garlic.  It is not a variety which will grow into a good sized bulbs around here and just keeps multiplying.....  Anyway I am very tired from the hand turning of the soil and then reaching down and trying to get rid of every little bit of it.  This morning I went to the post office and mailed in my Sales Tax Authority to the NYS Tax office in Albany.  Mailed it Certified Mail to be on the safe side. Whistling  Then later I found the train room....

It's still there!  Right where it was a few weeks ago.........  I have a bunch of jigs and material on order from Fast Tracks which should be here in a couple of weeks.  Then the fun begins.  As soon as the first #6 turnout is complete, I will use it as a template for ;laying out where everything will need to go at the top of the hill Limestone Quarry.  After I do the final layout, I will know where to cut down through the plywood to make the pit in the quarry and can start moving forward with the construction, etc.

Tomorrow I have the church planning Retreat.  Hope it is a good and useful day.

Jeffrey, hope you feel better tomorrow!

So, I think we've all proven now I can't keep up with this thread anymore...

So, Im going to take a moment here to praise the values of a small town community. My HS raised for me from individuals a total of $1790.00 for Dad's expenses. The grand total is close to 2500, but between my school and his alumni, we can actually do this thing. Moe than I was expecting, that's for darn sure. Plus, people who know people are offering to help us with the estate, debts, and to make sure it don't bite us and drag me down.

Wow.

I knew I had friends, but wow. The outpouring has been phenominal.

Especially when you consider that a few organizations I'm in compiled a second check, for me for gas, and whatever I might need to get on with the world. The stuff Dad would've loaned me if he were here and had it.

That check, written on behalf of Student Council, the Track and Cross Country Teams, NHS, and a few others: 1200

(Seeing the little slice of heaven that Clayton IN is proving to be: Priceless. Hee Hee.)

Holy. Frikkin'. (S)crap.

This again from the organizations I've helped with, and all this behind my back. And for gravy, the bank waived the money order fee for me, ($5) so I could turn the collection of checks and cash from the fundraiser into a payment to the Funeral Home.

Last week too, the High School Principal came out and did a private graduation the day before Dad passed. Dad wanted to see the graduation, and we didn't want him to suffer tring to hang on for it. The Principal brought a cake, balloons, a card, bubblers, noisemakers, a CD of Pomp and Circumstance for background, and for the touch or purpose. My actual, signed diploma. I still get to have it, just so that the ceremony had "meaning". That's not the right word, somebody fill it in for me.

Dear God,

The rest of the world may be boardng a handbasket, but I can attest right here, the Cascade District, you dun real good with this one. I hope I have this kind of area for my kids one day.

Lesee here. Garry's up to his armpits in water. I forsee a few of those whalebelly tankers pumping water. WOn;t do much, but we can send them to BridgeTom for forest fire season. WHat say we? Wuld Tennesee miss 150k gallons of water without damaging their ecosystem? (I hate to take too much, in case that's ALL the rain they're getting for the year)

Rob's wife hurt? Oh dear. Get well yesterday! (soon is too long)

Take care of hat foot Jeff. And thank you for the PM.

COming along Sawyer, I think I'm gonna see if the NWR club will hold my old 4H diorama. I'd like to get it cleaned up, still needs ballast and detail parts for broken stuff, and a road. Might be something nea for a project

Speaking of Amtrak and bad track, I recall when Amtrak first started in 1970. I rode between Kalamazoo and Chicago in dirty old second hand equipment on some deplorable Penn Central track. The train went faster sideways than forward.

Having everythign to do with the opposite, but CN knows how to treat track for passenger trains. When Dad and I chased the 4449 last Summer (sigh....) I remember us falling behind, because out of Battle Creek, she was allowed to hi a full 70mph. I'd loved to have seen her cranking away at that, but the highway speed was only 50. Can you say GONE? It didn't help that we got lost in Kalamazoo after that, my route map was out of date, but we never got closer than 5 minutes behind them ntil they stopped in Durand.

The wake of people she left was cool too, piling on the track t find their mashed pennies. If RR police wanted to confiscate that stuff for tresspassing, I bet they could've paid for the trip in smooshed change.

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a Santa Fe mug of decaf and a hot fudge brownie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, please 'n' thanks! Woefully behind on the goings-on in here; skimmed the past 1-2 pages. I will be soooo glad when the laptop is fixed & back. It has the best keyboard - better than the PowerMac's. Sorry to see Jeff and Ulrich aredown with something or 'nuther. Get to the doctor, Ulrich, and you too Jeff, if your creepin' crud continues very much longer. Adding your healing to my Angel list. Todd, like what I've seen of the trestle & tunnel (1-2 pics). Thumbs Up I see Chris is sharing his weather and sending it East. Wink Didja find out what we talked about yet? Email me if you did, please. Garry - Wow!!Shock You need an ark, buddy! Will Shelley be able to get home? Ray - email me your mailing address, please. Don't ask why...(heh, heh...) W**k was good today - after I got back from lunch, nobody came in or called for me. Big Smile Had a short deluge while I was doing laundry tonight (it quit after a little). May have some more tomorrow, but not supposed to amount to much accumulation. Time to head for home. On-call tomorrow & Sunday, payday today. Smile Prayers for all of us needing them (about everyone, I guess). Oh, and Sign - Welcome to the new Diner (forgot to write down your name). Blessings, Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good morning all,

The tornado passed north of us as a water spout, but several areas got hit with 1” to 3” hail.  I’m just glad the storm passed through quickly.  Today’s plan includes taking the girlfriend to a sewing class and stopping at her house to do some cleaning.  Hopefully I can get in the train room and get some stuff done.
