Good Morning All,

Sunny but cool this morning a welcome change from the hot muggy of the past few days. Hope Garry stays dry - I see they are now trying to keep the Grand Ol Opry from becoming a cruise ship.

Rob - prayers for the FIL. Hope you stay well having to pull double duty and doing all those hours.

Ulrich - ditto - hope you get well soon. Sounds like you have a case of what we've had go through the shop here. Runny nose, roachy throat, sneezing, coughing, etc. Takes a while to pass as well.

Busy, busy in the shop trying to keep up with the job load and get longer term projects done. No time for much beyond w..k and sleep.  Catch y'all later, J.R.

Backlit billboards in every scale.  Very cool illuminated graphics.

I get their billlboards---they got some good stuff there!!

I'm off and all piculous this morning. I have those moments when the ticker wants to go off on a randomized hunt for a workable rythme but so-far nothing out of the ordinary has occured. I've always had the arrythmia---now we deal with this on top. Oh, now I have weekly blood work that needs done. Why? Because I have some meds that want to duke it out with my Pottassium and my clotting. They are monitoring my dosages rather closely--

On track today is working on my layout and attempting some more photography of a sortmit----

Chloe, I'll have a coffee in a Union Pacific  mug and toast with jam please---I'm going by the window booth to watch the day unfoldBig Smile

 Good Afternoon,

I just woke up from a midday snooze, my head is aching and I feel really ill. Adding bad to worse, I can hardly walk, as I tore a muscle in my foot - don´t even know, when that happened! It appears to be just one of THOSE days Sad

Chloe, darling, just a hot black tea with lemon, please (Hope Petra did not hear that!).

My track plan is based on Peco turnouts. They come spring-loaded and actually work fine. I will order them in the UK for less than half-price as compared to Walthers/Shinohara turnouts or any German brand. Isn´t that crazy? Why is all of the model railroading stuff so much cheaper in the UK? Escapes my understanding.

Well, I´ll be off to the sofa again!

 Good morning.

I didn't make it in at all yesterday Whistling.  Between working around the house and work, I guess I had no time.

I guess I'm off to weed the drive way.   Now that's fun Blindfold.

Hope everybody has a good day.

Ulrich,

Do you have to pay the VAT for GB when you mail order?  When we buy stuff to import here, we're exempt though we have to pay all proper U.S. duties to our gov't. From what I'm told, that alone can make a significant difference?

If you're to have "one of those days" best to take it easy and limit you're exposure.Whistling  J.R.

J.R. - yup, I have to pay UK VAT, but no duties nor German VAT on my purchases in UK! Actually UK VAT is lower than German VAT, adding to the overall saving.

Good morning. It's 59 and sunny. The high will be 88 and it will be partly cloudy.

This morning I go to see the foot doc the I have to go to the pharmacy and have the old fight with medicaid over what I can and can't get. We don't have to worry about tyhe day that Biog Brother shows up to control our lives. He's already here and has been for many years. Tomorrow I'll be mowing my parent's yard for the comfortable seat of the old Peerless tractor. All hand controls on that old beast. No feet required. Just keep gas in the tank and a cool drink in the cup holder and I'll be happy.

Good morning.. It is really good to see the sun! The storms are gone. There was a tornado close to here this weekend that I just heard about. Otherwise, it was lots of rain. It was much worse farther south from here.

Our niece's house in Nashville:

Watch this U-Tube of Opryland Hotel. This is a very high class resort hotel on the river front in Nashville. 1500 guests were moved to a high school up hill from the hotel in the middle of the night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfL5j9ckcyo

We are downstream from Nashville. Our lake is a large man-made lake about 50 miles long on the Cumberland River. The lake is expected to keep rising through Thursday. Normally we walk about 150' from the closest corner of the house to the lake. Right now the shadow of the house touches the lake.

The gangplank normally slopes down to the dock, but now it slopes up. You need hip boots to get to the fishing boat.

In this picture you can see the top of a small tree nearly submerged in the center of the photo.

NORMAL HEIGHT on ANOTHER DAY. Note the passing barges. The barge companies have now suspended operations on the Cumberland River due to bridge clearances.

Good morning all. Nice day out today, I don't know what will happen other than I must go to town and do Mom's grocery shopping after I put the groceries away for the restaurant. Hopefully I will be home in time to mow the yard and spend some time on the layout. Even if it's just a few minutes. With any luck I will pour a rock face before I have to leave this morn.

Lee- Ooops.Laugh The "s" sure makes a difference.  Guess the old eyes aren't what they used to beBlindfoldLaugh. Maybe I best go re read that paper Brenda had me sign yesterday.

Rob- Sorry to hear about FIL, but glad to hear he's doing OK

Ulrich- I hope I didn't give you my bug. Although probably not, mine is just sinus.

Well, best get moving if I want to get something done on my "day off" HAAAAAAhahahaha! HahaHAHAha! "day off". HAAAAAA!

Have a Great Day!!!!

Morning ya'll

I'm finally on summer vacation. The English final was pretty easy, but I'm probably gonna have to take summer classes. my plan to get a second job didn't work too well. On top of that it's been raining the past few days so I haven't had a chance to anything on the car. Hopefully it clears up soon, I'm gonna change the front control arms with a set of shorter ones so that the tires aren't sticking out past the fenders and rubbing

Kieth, It's an ALCO, who wouldn't buy it?Big Smile

Barry, Nice find. Out of curiosity, what is an RSC 11? never heard of that and a search turns up nothing

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

It would be a RS11 that had 3 axle trucks instead of 2 axle. Basically it was a Canadian version of the RS11 except of that one thing.

As far as you peeps out there with Colds.. I keep tellin ya..~  "You have my friends 'Polish Chile Verde' and you won't have a cold .. or a friend for a year.  You won't get a flea bite.. a mosquito bite..I don't know about them 'chiggers' though.. they're nasty.. but I'm pretty sure..  and, it would have been a cure for the Bubonic plague.

If I hear one more person sayin they have a cold.. I'm gonna give a step by step.. with photo's..about cooking.. Polish Chili Verde lol.

I'm ready to look up if any of the ingredients are toxic to dogs and cats! Its got to be cheaper than Flea medicine.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe...  just figured I better get inside and out of the rain. Big cup of dark roast coffee and a breakfast bagel for me.

Currently have a heavy rain going on outside here in the Finger Lakes.  The weather people have a sever warning posted for a few miles North of here, but the map just shows rain where I am.

Robby?  Weeding the driveway?  trying to get a picture of THAT in my head.......  Evidently you have a dirt or gravel driveway?

Garry,  always thought that the "Grand ol' Opry was all wet.........Whistling  Interesting photos!  I hope your niece's house doesn't sustain too much damage, but the photo looks bad!  I also hope your house is high enough above lake level not to have any damage.  My prayers to you!

Barry!  Take care of that heart!  I want to see you again at THAT train show in Woodstock a year from now..... Big Smile

Keith, Green Polish Chili?  Now THAT is a blend of cultures..........  I wouldn't give any to Barry or any of the others with heart problems! Whistling  Actually for "curing" colds, I have always been partial to the "Kaskas Cure".  Anna Kaskas, former Metropolitan Lead Contralto was my Artist Teacher of voice my first 2 years at Eastman.  Her cure involves hot black coffee and 100 proof..................Smile,Wink, & Grin

Went over to the HS this morning and took some photos of the MLK Scholarship winners.  Happy bunch of kids!  I told a couple of them that one criteria for me is to find students who would be people I would want to hang around with if I was back in High School.  Every one of them would be!

Hmm....  I started this post back before Noon.

Later!

 afternoon.

It finally hit me why the lighting was such crap; I had the exposure set on -2/3 for an earlier photo op, and forgot to change it. I do need some better lights though!

Well, heard a joke on air1 this morning about the floods (there's a contest where if you're the 10th caller and can get the hosts to laugh you get a prize pack):

"A man walks up to the flooded river in Tennessee and prays 'God, give me the strength to cross the river.' so God gives him big muscles and it takes the guy a half-hour to swim across. Another guy walks up and prays 'God, give me the strength and tools to get across.' So God gives him a boat and it takes the guy 15 minutes to row across. A third guy walks up and prays 'God, give me the strength, tools, and intelligence to get across the river.' so God turns him into a woman, she looks at a map, walks 5 minutes up river and crosses the bridge." hey, I'm a guy and I laughed! pretty sure it was a guy who called in with it too.

Here is why over 500 passengers were stranded on a tourist train at Lebanon, TN, and here is why.

The Music City Star commuter train is probably not iperating because their downtown Nashville dpot is under water and because its eastern terminal is Lebanon in the photo.

I don't know if our neice's house can be salvaged. My broitehr in law manages a large shopping center, but it is on high ground and OK.

Good evening folks: Been away all day again,a nd just caught up with emails and reading back through the pages.  I said a bit ago that I needed a third N Scale MP Malden Station kit - well, on the bay last night there was this built up station, and it looked familiar, so I double checked, and sho' nuff - it's the Malden station. As I was the only bidder, it's on it's way to me tomorrow. Thumbs Up I'll have to re-paint of course, and maybe re- attach one or two dormer windows that looked miss-aligned in the photos.  Shipping included I get it for about 2/3rds of the price of the kit here.

CapeJim:

***Der, that's the inherent risk of playing on the-bay. Surely YOU can fingure out how to fix it up if anyone can.
...Oh yes indeed, and as a matter of fact I've been able to re-seat the weight, so if I'm lucky, and there are no seismic events, it'll stay put. They base is glued in the centre, and I will do surgery only if provoked! Next time the paints are out, I'll weather the trucks. The car, with Micro-Trains trucks, came to a tad north of $10 delivered! I probably would have to pay more at the LHS for the trucks alone, and my gas to and from!

Jeff:

I don't have that problem with Dish Network. The longest it's ever gone out was just a couple of minutes.
...being as we're a bit more north of you, our distance to the satellite is greater - so our "weather outs" tend to be longer - and we have to clear the dish of snow "in season". (Mounted it low, so it's easy to do that!)

Ulrich: Hope that cold gets kicked out pronto, and the foot gets sorted out too! It could be that simple piano wire in a tube (think drinking straws) under the layout to the fascia may work. Since you are using Peco, this should cut the costs of the control mechanisms. (Unless piano wire is at a premium in Germany! LOL) My one application of this solution on the current layout is here. (naked!) and with its clothes  Clown  The tube in this case is the handle of a Q Tip!

Chloe, darling,...
Hey, that's just common parlance in many places with no relationships intended, implied or sought! So Petra should have no worries!Whistling

Garry: Thinking of your niece and her situation - and that shadow picture is real scary. We're with you in praying for drier times!Angel

Sawyer: Saw that joke with a different by-line last year - and it still had me ROTFL!

About time to close things up for the day, so I'll say Good night all, and God bless. Prayers for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Peace, and more favourable weather.Angel

Good Evening Diners,

Garry, that flooding really is terrible out your way. Winnipegers can empathize as this is the flood capital of Canada and if it weren't for the great ditch around the city, the entire city would have been under between 5 and 10 feet of water back in '97. Our house would have likely been completely under water. Anyway I sure hope the water stops coming up in your back yard.

Raining here again tonight but at least we won't be getting the 6 " of snow that Edmonton did. Tomorrow is supposed to  be a balmy 4C.

Just finished putting on some MT couplers on a MP mikado and a BM consolidation. The first time I did such a conversion on a MP pacific it must have taken me over an hour but this time about 10 minutes. I guess practice does make perfect or at least quicker.

Had a headache most of the day but it is finally gone. I think my sinuses were acting up last night. I rarely get headaches unless I have a particularly tough issue to handle at work with a customer. I'm in charge of collections and companies that owe you money often aren't very friendly.

Think I'll say good-night,

CN Charlie

Good morning,

Jeff, yes it was the RSD with the ALCO and 2 stacks, thanks for pointing that out.

I hope everyone in TN has Floor Insurance.  I’m about 60 feet above Lake Erie, but I have a 210 foot waterfall at the end of the Lake to keep me dry so no Flood Insurance here; however I do have earth quake, volcano, and lava flow insurance.

SO everywhere I’ve lived I’ve had State Farm insurance and every agent would send me a coupon for a free gift on my birthday;  Road Atlas, travel mug, or something with the SF logo on it.  I moved up here in 2000 and the free gifts stopped.  I told my new agent about the birthday thing and he thought it was a great idea. 2 weeks after my birthday I got a letter and a policy in the mail from State Farm; Happy Birthday, for your special day we have extended your insurance policy to cover Volcano eruption, lava flow, and ground movement…….

Ulrich, I hope you feel better soon!

Well, the contractor poured my new apron (1:1 Scale driveway apron) yesterday, and the new concrete under the garage door.  Handed the contractor a check for $1000.00 and I heard a loud bang and my garage door closed.  So next project is a center spring for the garage….. It just never ends!

 Good morning.

The wife's wreck is still causing a headache for both of us.  Now her job is making it a "workers comp" injury.  She has to see the work doctor this morning, and she's pretty mad!!   I guess we will wait and see what happens today, and see what we need to do.

Maybe cut some grass, and maybe a trip to the LHS is my plan......well after the doctor.

Still can't get any roofers out to the house.  Had one come by, but never heard from him.  Maybe its the tall roof, who knows.

Hope everybody has a good day.

Good morning all. And Happy Cinco de Mayo!!!

Slept well last night after unearthing from my toolbox, a package of generic Actifed. The only thing that works for me is Triprolidine HCL and Pseudoephedrine HCL. Nothing, and I do mean nothing, else works on me. Actually, it's the Triprolidine that is the necessity. It's such a hassle getting the stuff, two forms of ID, thumbprint, nasal cavity search, birth certificate, blood sample, copy of last utility bill and a bologna sandwich on wheat. Too much mayo and you're out of luck. Stupid meth heads. Anyway I'm feeling better already, I'd better or that Polish Chili Verde was next.

I wait tables tonight so I won't be doing anything that gives me Mechanic Fingers, so the truck will have to wait. I started to mow last night so all I have to do today is the pushing around the berry patch and the trimming. Then, I hope to spend the day in the train room until it's shower for work.

Garry- You know my thoughts and prayers are with you and the others threatened by the flooding. My niece is coming up this weekend, she also lives in Nashville, and is not affected so far I guess. Her first year on her own and out of central Illinois.

Building along rivers can be enticing and beautiful, but I guess we find out it's true. Sooner or later, no matter what we do, the river will let you know who really owns the ground. I "fought the flood of ‘93" and they were right. If the Ole Muddy wanted it back, she got it no matter what we did.

Barry- I gotta know, what does "piculous" mean. I can't find it anywhere.

Lee- I too have had State Farm all my insured life. Like you said, every year I get a card and though there is no trinket, the office is full of them and all I have to do is zip in and get my atlas, scratch pad, pens, key chains, GPS locating device, whatever. I have not been offered volcano or lava flow yet. Odd. Maybe I should ask about it. I'm assuming it's free?

Yesterday morning, I cast two rock faces for the easily visible interior portion of the tunnel. They came out well. So far. This morning my plans are to paint/stain those rock faces and fit them. Then I can take my black poster paper, or whatever it's called, to cover the rest that is not easily visible. Hopefully no one will get down and use a flashlight into the tunnel to see just how far back the rocks go. Once I get the tunnel interior finished, so to speak, then I can work on the hillside.

Welp, best get a move on and hit the yard touch up or something before time slips away. Gee ain't it funny how time slips away. Ooops, I forgot about the room cleaning thing. Maybe I'll start the plans for a lava wall. Be the first in the neighborhood.

Have a Great Day!!!!

I'll be busy outside today as it looks like a good day for mowing, and I need the cash. It's only $20 but that's $20 I didn't have before plus my parent's supply the machine and the gas. All I have to bring is myself. Now, the trick to starting the old peerless tractor is to lock the brake, choke the crap out of the carb, advance the throttle all the way up and hope there's no one else in the shed when the key is turned. The reason for that is that when the first cylinder fires the second cylinder will backfire and it sounds like a shotgun blast. It also makes one heck of a cloud of black smoke that could choke a horse. It's done that for over 10 years and nobody knows why. Several times it's set fire to the dried grass clippings on the top of the deck on start up. The only cure for that is to back it out of the shed and spray down the deck with the water hose. Bad thing about that is, it has to be running to back it out which means it's already burning. Great fun! It can't be pushed because the rear axle locks when the engine is cut off. The only thing that's more fun is when it backfires on shutdown (very rare). The grass doesn't catch fire then but it sure scares the crap out of anyone close by.

I could use their new Yardman but the brake, drive and revesre on it are all foot controlled (right foot naturally) and that disagrees with my right foot. The Peerless is all hand controlled except for the initial locking of the brake to start it. After that the brake can be controlled by hand. Isn't it easy to figure out why I like using it.

***Garry, are you going to model a section of your layout like that twisted track? Sure would be interesting. Just keep AMTRAK away from it.WhistlingLaugh

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a short stack of buckwheat pancakes with NYS Maple Syrup and my dark roast coffee in a FGLK mug please.  I'll go sit in the front booth and watch the yard goings on outside.

Got up early to get take a CD of materials for a press release for the Scholarship Dinner to the local paper.  It may actually get in tonight's paper.  THAT means I may have to read other stuff besides the comics and "Police Beat"......Whistling

Rob, THAT wouldn't be a problem for Amtrack, after all they do use CSX trackage around here.....WhistlingWhistling

I have to print materials for Deacons tonight and finish the lawn today. Also have to do a grocery store run, get a "Come Along" from TSC (blasted hitch is still stuck...) and then go to Deacons.  One of these days I am going to make it back down to the layout to get some things done.  I am way behind schedule with what I hoped to have done by now.

Best get moving.  Later!
