 MERRY CHRISTMAS (eve) FOLKS!!!

Jerry, awesome yard scene with the motive power there!

Today I'll fire the compressor and old Badger airbrush up to spray three model power streamlined coaches I'm gonna try to sell silver. The silver is model master paint left over from my boxcar project.

Chris- Thanks! Thanks a lot! Now I'll have The Witchita Lineman running through my head for who knows how long.Laugh

No snuggeee.

I don't know how that stuff works either. Obviously less than you. My knowledge is just based on a conversation with a lineman several years ago and I made mention of the power on off and he made the reply that left me with more or less the idea of what we both say. Oh, and as far as the candles, you're right. But this also comes from a guy who also knows he shouldn't deep fry his turkeys in the garage. Kids don't do what I do, do what Chris says. I am living on borrowed time. Actually I employ many many extra safety factors that does not eliminate all danger, but makes the process a whole lot safer than it sounds. I will not list them because it may give someone the idea that if they do it, it will be safe. Suffice to say I do not just hook up the fryer in the garage and fry away. If the weather is decent, I prefer to fry outside away from the house.

Yup, now that you say it the "circuit reclosers" sounds closer than fuses. I guess they are built to reset three times within a certain time frame before remaining open to be reset? It also sounds familiar that after three times in a row they figure there is possibly something more going on than a momentary squirrel frying or the like.

Where I get "fuzzy" on it all, is I know they have Oil Circuit Reclosers, but they also have fused cut-outs. I can understand how the circuit recloser "trips," then closes, "trips," closes, "trips" again and gives up. How the fused cut-outs factor in, I'm not sure. From my days as an insulator collector, I've got a few of these cut-outs, with a large cartridge fuse.

It's been a long, long time since I last read "The Lineman and Cableman's Handbook." Whistling

Not sure for certain on that either, but that also sounds familiar. Of course I can also hear the guy say I won the lottery too!!! Laugh I hope the ice does not build up enough to bring down anything. Been through plenty of those and it's not fun. I also feel for the guys who are out in the stuff fixing them. It's gotta be miserable. Hats off to them though.

Good afternoon...and a Merry Christmas Eve to all!

VINCENT: Yep, had plenty of charecters like THAT... going as far back as high school. I got a very low grade in "Development of a Christian Personality" because my politics, values, and beliefs; and THAT of the teacher (a very radical nun) were at exact opposites. Some people in this world, you're just never going to agree with, or sway to your way of thinking. Good for you for sticking to your guns and defending your position in life.

SILVER PILOT: I applaud you too for sticking to your guns. I agree with Phillip,  that you and I will likely not agree on very much...but I'll defend your right to state your opinions just as I would hope you would defend mine. Again, welcome to The Diner. Now, how about telling us about your RR interests? I tend to leave my "poly ticks" out in the parking lot. I hope you can too.

PHILLIP: Very nicely put Sir... Also, as regards your request for poking/prodding for updates on your RR...it's a deal. Keep in mind, my RR still consists of three pieces of 1X4 and a shelf bracket sticking out of the wall...and a bunch of stuff sitting on shelves which has been accumulating since the mid 1980s (off and on). Maybe we can poke/prod/motivate each other to actually accomplish something in the coming new year?

TODD: You didn't get your wife a Snuggee did you?????? Your description from the electric dude...was pretty much spot-on to how it went off yesterday. I know they've got "circuit reclosers" out there, which would be why it came back on...but yeah, I figure the system reset itself as many times as it could...then gave up as the ice-coated wires kept slapping together and shorting things out. It's a much better situation than the big ice storm of a few years back. So far, I don't think they've had much in the way of lines down other than an isolated line here and there. So far...they haven't had miles of poles snapped (crossing fingers, knocking frantically on wood). Oh, and as a firefighter, I don't recommend candles for emergency lighting...fire hazard there Pal.

BAMA CSX: Christmas fireworks? SWEEEEEEEEET!Thumbs UpMischiefBow Just make sure you guys don't end up shooting down Santa Claus! Shock

ULRICH: Thanks for sharing the German Christmas traditions!!! I think a visit from your son and his GF will do you your spirt, your mind, and your soul a world of good! For a tree, we've been using a pre-fab job for five or six years now. Someday I'm gonna put up a real tree, but the "unfold it, plug it in" unit is just easier...

Best wishes to all in need, we'll pop back in from time to time...

Good morning. Coffee and I'll take those sausage rolls that were sent in for me please. A little over caramelized but niot too bad. The flavor is still there. Tastes great! (water please )

DerJohn- I know. I should have got her something sooner. All worked out OK, got her a fleecy pullover kinda thing and some of her perfume she likes. I'm sorry to hear of your new found allergyLaugh. I guess as far as reactions go yours is pretty mildLaugh. Makes you wonder how long it would have gone before being caught, or what about the person who needs the specialist.

PATom- Ouch! Lucky that was all that happened. (keep the splint. It will come in handy in the future)

Chris- I was told by an electric company worker dude, there are three backups ( I took it to mean like fused circuits) in the system. So if your power goes out momentarily once, twice, the third time it comes on, start looking for candles and get the generator going. You're out of backups. It's been a number of years so my exactness of terms and exactly what he said is a bit fuzzy but you get the idea.

PC- Yoooooou betcha!!! I'll let you get a start through this weekend and see Monday what you were able to accomplish. By the way, sitting and staring while thinking has become an accepted form of layout work in Toddland (of course there, I'm king)

Well, I've gotta wrap Brenda's presents before noon. The elevator is closing then and then I have too work tonight. But before I go, could I get a couple of the, um, shall we say slightly less cooked sausage rolls?

Have a Great Day!!!

Good morning and a Happy Christmas Eve to all.  I'll have a bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar and milk, please.  Need something that sticks to the ribs this morning.

It's a nice warm 26 F here, that -1 C for you guys that are smart enough to understand that system.  When I got up at 5:00 to go to work it was blowing and about 5 inches of the white stuff on the ground with more falling.  Thinking that sleeping in was a good plan I went back to bed.  About 7:30 I got up and called the office to tell them I was taking the day off.  The snow had stopped for now but we are expecting another larger dump tonight.

With luck we can get a hole in the weather and get to our daughter's tomorrow.  The 4th and final act of this storm is expected Friday night.

Hope you all have a safe and Merry Christmas.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe just a hot bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar and a cup of dark roast coffee for me this morning.  I'll go sit and listen to what's going on in front booth.  I see some business going on outside in the yard.  Looks like a long train is getting ready for a midnight run.  Hmmmmm, right at head of the train there is a flatcar with a big red sleigh....  and right behind that a horse palace with reindeer????   Hmm.  Wonder who the fat guy in the red suit is who is talking to the engineer???

We're having a heat wave here in Finger Lakes.  Right now 25°F with the high.......  Hang on to your hats!  A high of 30°F later this afternoon under partly cloudy skies.

Got a busy day ahead.  Have to prepare a big bowl of baked winter squash for Christmas Dinner tomorrow, and feed the cats in Canandaigua, and maybe even have time to continue w**k on the layout before I go to Church for the Christmas Eve Service.

Hope all of you who celebrate have a wonderful Christmas Eve today!

A Merry Christmas Eve to all!  Just stopping in for a few minutes for some biscuits and gravy with a tall glass of milk.  Not a whole lot planned for the day, gotta take our old dryer out to pasture and get the new one shoved into place.  By the way, we're actually IN our house!  Renovations still aren't 100% complete, but its enough that we can rather comfortably live in here.  Today's weather for Bama, rain, wind, and more rain, high of around 67, chance of thunderstorms, some may be severe after 12 (yeah, wonderful sounding ain't it?).  I've also got to pull my volunteer shift at the fireworks stand that our church is running from 12 till 4, then we're having a pancake supper up here at the house for Christmas with my FIL and some other family.  Tomorrow will be the big day, we're going to go up to my mom and dad's and spend the day with them and my grandparents.  I'm fairly certain that Heather and Mikayla are going to get seriously spoiled.

Well, that's about it from my neck of the woods.  My BIL just popped in to help me get the dryer tossed into the back of the truck then its off to get the new one.

Good morning.  Its cold and still got some snow on the ground.

Going to eat with the in-laws today.  Not much planned other than that.   I do have a three day weekend.  Maybe I can catch up on some sleep.

Hope everybody has a good Christmas Eve, and I will try to pop back in later.

Good morning. It's 66 and raining. 66 will remain as the high today as showers and thunderstorms make their presence felt.

The thunder was so intense this morning that books, DVD's and videotapes were being shaken off the shelves. A look at the layout showed that a couple of cars had wheels off the tracks. That's happened only a couple of times in the last 20 years. The only place near here that this happens more frequently is the Museum of West Louisiana where the vibration of trains passing by derails cars on the static HO display of the old KCS roundhouse. In fact, over the years the vibration has caused damage to the model roundhouse. The storms have passed for now though I expect more. We're under a tornado watch until 1 pm and the probability of rain is 80%. In other words, it's gonna be a very wet day. There's plenty of stuff to be cleared from the layout should I find the energy and time to do it. I also have some shelves that need attention.

Silver Pilot, I'm afraid we're going to have to agree to disagree, on many points.  I've already said WAY more then I intended on the subject.  But its OK, because being able to agree to disagree is what makes this a great country, right?

You've heard this country described as "The Great Melting Pot Of The World", right?  Well, a few years ago I heard what I thought was a much better description.  A man described our country as "The Great Tossed Salad Of The World".  He said, a melting pot mixes everything all up, so you can't tell one thing from another so much.  Everything turns kind of all one color eventually.  But a tossed salad is bright, colorful, and full of unique flavors.  Personally, I think he's right.  This country is more of a tossed salad, and I'm glad you're in it with me.

Merry Christmas!

Good Morning All,

A regular and a coffee roll please. SP - I agree - enough said, we could fill pages and pages with debate but this is what passes in the ether for a neighborhood coffee shop where we're allowed by the powers that be to go off topic but mostly in reference to personal events. We do try to stay off the big national debates of the day (or decade or century) and generally keep it on the light side. On occasion one of us goes off but usually to little or no effect overall. As others have said, if you'd like to stop in for a virtual coffee or meal and hang at the rivet counter with us, please do. We try to leave the debating society out in the main halls of the site. Peace be with you and may you have a Merry Christmas or Happy Holiday as you see fit. I'm in the shop today finishing up a couple of things and having a tidy up so I'll check in from time to time.     Regards, J.R.

Morning ya'll, Chocolate chip pancakes for me.

Got some work done on the U25C last night. I cut down some of the frame so that I can get Kadees in at the right hieght with underset couplers. That way I won't have to cut up more of the shell and buy a coupler buff plate casting (the thing around the coupler). I need to get some more coupler boxes, Kadees, and screws before that is done. I also took the mechanism apart so that I can add wipers to have all-wheel pick-up and clean out the mechanism.

PC, can I give that one to by brother and sister as a christmas card?Laugh

Chris, I had a college professor who was one of those "people of tolerance." I wrote a paper that disagreed with what most everything out there says. He didn't like it too much...

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Too ofteen want is seen is not inclusiveness, but exclusionary practices.  TMarsh's comment about reading the Constitution should be taken seriously.  Read the 14th Amendment, what's known as the Equal Protection Clause (no, not that Santa Clause), and its history.  The Equal Protection Clause (EPC) is at the heart of what AnnaMedic terms inclusiveness.  THe courts have ruled time and again that ut's alright to have a banner that says "Merry Christmas" on it as long as it also says "Happy Hanukkah", "Happy Kwanzaa" and what you'd call other "Season's Greetings".  The same applies to holiday displays.  The display of a nativity scene is OK as long as it includes displays from other religions.  That's why you see many citie have both a tree lighting ceremony and Hanukkah menorah lighting ceremony.  The problem comes when the local government rejects a request from someone to have their group included on the banner or in the display.  Doing so violates their rights under the EPC.  So instead of trying to deal with this many local governments have simply stopped doing public displays or Christmas banners.  The acknowledgement of one faith in preference to another faith such as having a church or cross or bible depicted on the city seal has consistently been ruled a violation of the separation of church and state as it shows a bias towards one religion or particular set of beliefs.

The EPC also applies to gay rights cases that TMarsh seems to have problem with also. If you actually research and read the cases concerning gay rights and same-sex marriage in those states that ruled in favor of it, the principal argument made by proponents of it is a violation of the EPC.  By the state denying a gay person certain rights that it allows other persons, the argument is that the state has violated the EPC.  The gay person is not being afforded equal protection under the law by being excluded from having certain laws, such as the right to make gifts to their 'spouse' tax free, apply to them.  Enough said on that subject and not to get onto antoher hot topic.

I always have problem when I hear someone say that this country was founded as a Christian nation.  There is nothing further from the truth and such comments need to be rebutted, swiftly and strongly.  So, if we are a Christian nation (heavy dose of sarcasm), which form of Christianity is the right one - Catholicism, Methodist, Lutheran, Episcopalan, Baptist, Southern Baptist, Greek Orthodox or one of the thousands of evangelical sects that exist.  Chose one, but only one, because according to you there is only one true religious way to believe, apparently yours which we all should follow.  IIRC, there seems that have been a great deal of violence and bloodshed in Northern Ireland over the years because Catholics and Protestants couldn't agree on which religion should be the one in charge.

If you want to live in a Christian nation move back to one like England where the Church of England is still the official State church.  If you want to see what happens where you have a State established religion look at any of the Middle East countries such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, or Pakistan.  Countries where religious laws are passed and enforced by secret police; where you can be arrested if someone doesn't think you practice their religion properly.  ENOUGH SAID!

Dinner at Ulrich’s!!!!!!!

Good morning to all and to all a MERRY CHRISTMAS!

It’s a little early I know, but I have a full schedule this weekend.  I’m working today, and then tomorrow it’s off to visit with my family in Bowling Green, Toledo, and Detroit (sounds like a short line RR doesn’t it?).  Then I have a couple of friends coming over for train time on Saturday, and then Sunday it’s off to my Uncle’s in Lorain to visit with the rest of the family.  Between driving, eating, presents, driving, eating, and sleeping I might not be back to the diner until Monday.

 Good Morning Everyone,

Gosh, the diner looks nice, with all the Christmas decoration! You folks have done a super job this year, Flo! Yeah, I´ll have my usual dose of coffee and a blueberry muffin.

Christian did not come yesterday, but he is now on the way - just in time. Hope he has a good train ride - the trains are usually packed. We have lots of sn*w and ice, so it is a "White Christmas" for us this year. I will drive to the train station in two hours to take our little one home SmileSmileSmile

I am not quite sure what to think about the past discussion - all I´d like to add is, that with a little more respect and tolerance, our planet would be a better place - isn´t it that, what Christmas is all about?

Today is a busy day for all fathers and mothers over here. The Christmas tree has to be put up and decorated, a nice smell coming from the kitchen fills all houses. Christmas Eve is the big day for all children, as Santa is coming as soon as it gets dark. The living room is usually off limits for the kids during the day. A little silver bell is rung when Santa has brought all the presents, the kids have to sing Christmas carols and then the door opens ....

After all presents have been unwrapped, it is time for dinner. In my family we had a special dish, originating in Eastern Prussia, the home of my parents. Its main ingredient is a special sausage, made only for Christmas. There is  also bread crumb dumplings, sauerkraut and a thick and rich sauce. We ate so much of it that our father made us drink a "Schnaps" to help digest it! With the passing away of the people  born there, when it was still German, this tradition is dying out, as the ingredients are not available anymore... Sad But it is still a fond memory of my youth.

We don´t have a Christmas tree - for the first time in my life. But at about $ 80 for a 5´ tree, we cannot afford to buy one. I am a little sad about this.

Blessings to all of you!

Back to trains.......yes, I think thats an EXCELLENT idea!

Speaking of which......I have a confession........one that should come as little surprise to some of you.  As some of you are aware, I lead a pretty hectic life.  I'm the head of the service department for a major phone company (dial tone, long distance, telephone systems, data, etc.).  That can be a huge strain on anyone.  On top of that, I just graduated college with my BS, and I'm also the director of childrens ministries at our church, basically the associate pastor (only without the official title), I'm in the church band, And I work at the local mission and the battered womens shelter.  Throw in my most important duties as a husband and father of two teenagers, , all three of which have muscular dystrophy, and my plate is pretty full.

As such, I have not done virtually anything on my model railroad in almost two years.  Oh, I've collected a few things for it, tinkered here and there, but not much REAL progress has been made.

I'm hoping to change all that, starting this weekend.  It's time to get busy and do this thing.  I need the outlet from the business of life, and I just really feel I'm ready to back off a little from some things and inject some new life in my creative side.

So, I need some help here.  (This is where you all come in!)  I know myself........I know I'll get caught up in a thousand things, and this will get shoved to the side.  But I need this or I'll simply burn out on the other stuff, and I can't do that.  So........I need for you all to hit me up for updates from time to time, OK?

I'll post some current pics this weekend, and we'll use that as a starting point, alright?

And Silver Pilot........could I ask a special favor from you?  I need some inspiration to get me rolling.  Please, share a little about your model railroad......no matter if it's still in your head or if it's a huge club layout in it's own dedicated building.  Can you do that for me?  Please.........

Awwww JIM, I see Rerun conned you out of a burger...he's pretty good at THAT! In fact, "burger" is one of his ultimate favorite words... No, he's not spoiled...just very well cared-for and loved.

JimRCGMO
good that you were able to get Loving Wife a present before she decided it was gift-opening time, and good that you even got something that was high up on her preferred list!

Thanks. I'd originally thought we'd have to "cancel Christmas" this year...but I knew she either had or was about to get me something...and I knew one way or another I'd get her something. Funny how that works. We agreed to the "one box" rule, and somehow both boxes ended up pretty much the same size...Confused Guess we make a good pair!

TODD: The prototype roundhouse was 12-stalls...I'm doing selective compression and going with 9. It won't be an exact match on a number of fronts...but will hopefully "look the part." The RR it's going on is still a few years away, but, I figure if it ends up too big for where it's supposed to go; I'll just borrow a trick from JEFF and break out the Dremel tool. This will be a background structure anyway, so if'n I have to chop off a few inches of depth...no biggee. To borrow a quote from a school board member the other night: "...it's kinda gotta go where it's gonna go." She was talking about an intercampus road...I'm talkin' 'bout where the roundhouse will end up. I'm calling it a monster as it is quickly overwhelming my w**k space! Now THAT I've got the third kit... youwza. This could get interesting. I still need some Pikestuff doors and Campbell corregated alluminum, but THAT's several paychecks in the future. Glasses, truck repairs, oil for the furnace...then maybe I can look at a Walther's order again. I call it fiscally responsible fiscal irresponsibility. Mischief

Here's a shot of a "Spine Line detour" coming through the North Yard in CR with the roundhouse in the background, showing how it fits into the overall scheme of things. I'll be compressing THAT distance considerably as well. But, hopefully you kinda get the general ideer of its function in life.

I remember shooting this like it was yesterday. By fluke, I caught some radio traffic and blew-off classes to get to the yard ahead of the train which was running from Mason City to Manly, on ex-RI trackage now owned by the Iowa Northern. It must've been quite a sight when this massive freight rolled through Vinton, Shellsburg, and Palo before crawling alongside the Cedar River. By the time it hit the yard, I was able to walk/jog ahead of it, trying to get a good, clear shot of the 6805. Naturally, my "best" shot was aimed right into the early morning sun... Banged Head AND, to make it worse, I went from "plenty of time to line up the shot" to "HOLY CRAP, it's HERE!"

Yep...remember it like it was yesterday instead of May, 1991.

Uh Oh...I think Rerun needs to make a trip outside... so, have a good, SAFE rest of the night, and an even better tomorrow.

Evening, Chloe - I'll have a RBF and join Chris and Rerun there at the RC, please. Thanks! Yeah, get Rerun another greaseburger too, please. He still looks hungry - dog must have an empty leg or two...

Chris, good that you were able to get Loving Wife a present before she decided it was gift-opening time, and good that you even got something that was high up on her preferred list! Thumbs Up When the gift basket arrives, you may want to check it over carefully, in case there is a check of another kind hidden in there.Wink On the ice storm thing, I think it was last year that we had the ice storm that hit from 30-40 miles south of Cape, all the way down into the Bootheel of Missouri, and left a lot of folks without power for - I think - a couple of weeks until they got the lines back up. Snapped a bunch of power poles, as well as the lines. One company who sells backup power supplies has been running ads on TV the majority of the rest of this year (trying to scare people into buying their products). Ah, marketing...

PA Tom, how long do you think you might be able to make use of that splint/brace? Could maybe get a lot of layout w**k done, I'd guess (just not any that involves lifting anything heavy). But play it with a straight face (as best as you can do that). If she suspects anything, you may wind up in major deep 'doo-doo'...

JR, good to hear the containers are gone (and I bet you are happy about that!). Doing the trim and finishing w**k will save you some My 2 cents, I'm sure. Great that your neighbors are understanding about the (temporary) clutter in the yard, and hope between now and spring that you are able to get the rest of things taken care of. Yeah!!

Flip, thank you for your wishes/prayers. Angel

Sign - Welcome to the Diner, EMD F7A! Liked your photos of your layout on your site. Thumbs Up Are you modeling a particular RR for your layout, or freelancing? We have several 'iNvisible' scale MRRers in the Diner, as you may have noted already.

I believe that tolerance is a two-way street (or ought to be, anyway). Even my brother who doesn't believe in anything supernatural or that can't be measured, smelled, touched or seen, has mellowed out enough that he no longer refuses me the option of expressing what I believe in. He used to want to cut me off if I even ventured to speak of my beliefs. Guess he might agree with me about that real tolerance thought I mentioned...Smile,Wink, & Grin

I still need to get my presents for daughter, son-in-law, grandson and brother (but since I expect the first three will be out of town, I have a little flex time to get those). My brother and I have been exchanging e-certificates, so that won't take long at all.

Didn't find a turkey part that has white meat at the grocery store today - they had one little one that was bigger than I wanted, and also some frozen ones that were way too big. So I'm going with a beef roast for Christmas dinner. I have the cranberry sauce, the mashed potatoes mix (and butter to help the taste out), salad fixin's, olives (both kinds) and I may pick up a bottle of wine on the way home tomorrow from w**k. (Sorry, Ray, I don't think I recall seeing Finger Lakes wines when I've looked in the wine section - but I'll think of Finger Lakes wines when I raise a glass with my dinner...)

One more day at w**k tomorrow, and then it's VACATION TIME for a whole week!

Big Smile

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

I'm back. How about some sugar cookies, since I just had two and they tasted more like shortbread than sugar, and a cup of Hot Chocolate.

Chris- How big is this Roundhouse going to be??!!! Sounds like a plan with the coal though. I don't forsee myself getting any train related stuff for Christmas  due to the aformentioned plan of one gift. Just as well as I'm not sure I'm comfortable with where I'm going with the layout myself. Let this be a lesson to those who take off without a plan and just wing it. Anyway, sounds like loving wife did pretty good so far. Hey, even one thing for the railroad is a great haul as far as I'm concerned!

Prayers for good doctors and those in need.

Good Eve'nin... Rerun and I will have us a plate of cheeseburgers please 'n thank-you! Dinner Oh, and a large Coke for me...and a dish of H2O for Mr. Rerun Wink

TODD: I don't really think you had too much to apologize for. Yeah, you "crossed the line," so did I and probably a few others. I think the main point you were making...and I don't want to beat a dead horse here or presume to speak for you...is that while "inclusiveness" is the "in" thing, and has a nice sound to it; some of us are fed up with "their" "inclusiveness" including everything EXCEPT our beliefs/traditions/values. Its sad how some of the most "tollerant" people out there are tollerant of everything EXCEPT certain beliefs/traditions/values. If you disagree...suddenly YOU are the "intollerant" one. I once had a bumper sticker partially torn off of my truck by a "person of tolerance."

I for one, am sick of it.

SILVER PILOT: I too would sit and have a brew or two with you... hopefully, when all is said and done, we'd agree to disagree. I can talk with/work with/get along with just about anybody...but I'm gonna stand up for traditional American values, and I will not apologize for them. Buy ya a cup of Diner coffee? And yes, by all means please tell us about your RR interests/modeling efforts.

OK...back to trains?

Loving Wife couldn't contain herself any longer...and we went ahead and opened up the "one box each." I managed to get her a chess board and strategy book, both "high priority" items on her wish list. She also got a pair of blue (the color of "hope" and not the "hope" associated with a certain Washington DC dweller...) BUGS, and another Pepsi glass for her collection.

I swear, I'm getting back to trains...

I received the third Atlas roundhouse for my on-going project. This thing is quickly turning into a monster! She also acquired a covered hopper for me THAT will probably require a small amount of re-numbering, and some real coal! Dollar General apparently is selling small bags with two pieces of coal, for a buck. With a little hammer w**k...I'll have a genuine coal load for at least one hopper.

I've got an amazing wife, no doubt about THAT!

Somebody, JIM maybe? suggested THAT and Mr. Owner/Publisher might have something for me. I spoke with THAT this morning, and she mentioned something about a "gift basket" waiting for my next trip to the office. I'm still hoping for a monetary bonus in with the paycheck...should find out tomorrow if we get mail service.

The weather here is raw... cold and very windy (20-30 mph sustained out of the east) with rain/freezing rain/sleet. The snow band is up in NE Iowa...we're looking at rain and rain variations through Friday.

'Ol Rerun and I will just hang out here at the RC for awhile... Hey Chloe? How's 'bout a couple RBFs? Yes Ma'am...one for me, one for Rerun. He LIKES rootbeer...

Silver pilot- I take it you disagree. By and large what I believe and have been taught, right or wrong, is a repeat of PC’s response so I shall not go into it farther as I also believe we are stepping too far off track for the fine people at Kalmbach to tolerate. Oh, and don’t get me started on telemarketers. I know it’s a job, but……..I don’t dislike the people, just the job. I apologize if I upset you, that was not my intention. I am used to associating with people who  either offer our civil differing opinions or we don’t remark at all. Something I apparently got too comfortable with and stepped over the line. Sometimes yes, the conversation gets a bit heated we just buy another round and keep a yakking. If this were the right place I’d buy you a round and we’d “match wits” You may be surprised at what I know in a serious conversation.

And to all- I regret my original post because I did not think of the rules as it just sort of came out as I was typing. In case you haven’t noticed, many of my choices of words are sometimes an exaggeration. Most people I’ve grown up with or been around for a long time understand this and I admit where I come from usually you talk to people as if you‘ve known them for years. This is my mistake and it is understandable people mis take what I am really saying. I also use sarcasm probably way to often around those who do not know me. ( I have had several conversations with the Hare Krishna over the years in bus stations and airports as they try to convince me, persistently, their “leader” is real and mine is not because there is a picture of him in the back of their book) I did not mean to imply that no one has a right to believe or engage in any activities they want because I disagree. Nor that because they are minorities they should be dismissed as second class citizens, nor that my beliefs are all that should matter. It was a point that was addressed in a reverse of rolls so to speak. That is what the “offended” sound like to me. Only I replaced their arguments for mine. Most people are as tolerant of my views as I am of theirs. Others are not. If you or anyone extends to me the appropriate greeting for their beliefs or life styles in person, generally I respond like in kind as a courtesy to them. Unless of course it is too far out for me to accept. They are expressing their greeting for their season and I respect that. . We all know one thing however, no one is intending on insulting anyone. Sometimes things don’t read as they are meant.

That being said as others have said Silver Pilot, please do tell us of your RR. Believe it or not we talk of that stuff too.

Aaannd I have to go get some things at the restaurant so in the words of Tigger and DerJohn TTFN
