Ulrich: glad you had a good visit from Christian and Steffi.  I'm wondering how long it may be before our granddaughter will be bringing a boyfriend to "meet the grandparents"!  BTW, did you get the emails I sent over the last few weeks? We'll be thinking of you heading back to hospital.Angel

Todd:

the amount of ballasting you did in one fell swoop!
...well, the actual laying of the ballast was split over three sessions, between the tracks for most of the stub tracks and loco service on the first two, and everything else yesterday morning and up to tea-time in the afternoon. It was the wetting and gluing I wanted to get done in one sitting, as it were.

The strips of masking tape I used for forming "foundation trenches" in the ballast worked reasonably well.  The engine shed was the more complex, and the wall trenches  came out pretty accurately. I pulled the tapes up after about 5-6 hours drying time. Jim, if you are thinking of trying this, don't forget to leave pull up tabs sticking above the surface of the ballast!  The interlock tower I left as a plain rectangle as there is no visible floor for that. With both buildings, I'll have to dress up the ballast against the base once the building is in place. I ordered up a Yard Office by the manufacturer of the tower last night. It was the last one Internet Model Trains had in their post Christmas clearance. There will also be a sanding tower going in the foreground stretch of that yard. I'll soak the ballast to be able to shift it for planting those in due course.

After dinner t his evening I finished the track cleaning (600 grit emery then 1200 grit) and Gleaming (burnishing with the ss fork handle and polishing with Mother's Mag and Aluminum polish) Jeff, I had a think about the cork - the nearest Wally World being well over an hour's drive - and decided to try small pieces of the thin blue "Click Floor" underlay that I had bought for the yard re-model to make an applicator  with a  buffer tool at the other end. I took your advice and used a very thin layer of polish on the applicator, and there was no polish residue marring the rails.Thumbs Up The material buffed up the rails very well. You can see that it is tough stuff. The wear is from Gleaming that entire yard, plus the main line at the back of it!

BTW, if that IS our diner, it explains why everything gets thrown around when the switcher moves it!!!

....and that being so, get ready - only 25 more pages to go!Shock

CapeJim: Nice looking freight shed there - even if it is Horribly Oversized!Tongue

Barry, as far as my painting the trees goes, I expect to use a Roof brown over the whole tree, and then after it's dry, go lightly back over that (once dry) with a grey/greyish-brown (dry-brushed) for some textural effects.
You might want to think about doing a bunch the other way around as well. Not just for variety, but also if you look at a number of trees, the trunks are predominately shades of grey.My 2 cents
I'll need a bit deeper of a space between the one track on the side of the Delaney building to have room for trucks to turn and back up to the loading doors. With that location in the pic, the truck could only get to the one lading door on the narrow end of the building.
...may I offer an alternative? There's no room for trucks at the delivery dock of the engine shed. (the white edge of the photo is the wall!) Didn't stop me, as I needed the house where it is!

Chris:

One thing I've found helpful here in Iowa, is the IDOT puts a map up on the web with road conditions: "normal," "fair," "difficult", and "travel not advised." Difficult is described as "a hazardous environment." Not sure if your state DOT does something similar or not...if so, it could be a help in a) making the decision, and b) 'splainin' to da boss man.
We have "travelcams" on many of our highways. Shows a recent pic of the actual conditions  - but only useful in the  daytime. Here's the map for the whole Province. Click on any camera to see what's what. Right now, it's night and pitch black, but this link should be live for general use anytime.- One snag is that the cameras are not always working, so you have to check the date register on the shot! Handy though, as you can email the url of a particular location!

It's time for bed yet again. Good night all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of Healing, Comfort, Prosperity and Peace.Angel

Getting the new staging in is first.  That, and general cleanup........

Good Evenin', ladies? double cheeseburger basket with a tall 7-Up please 'n thank-ya, yep...at the RC.

Hey JIM: "Dry"??? We got 2-3 inches of "flurries" last night. It s**wed to beat heck just before we reached See Der Rabbits this mornin', and we're supposedly supposed to get 15-20 mph winds to whip the powdery stuff around. Probably due to THAT swirly thing you saw on the weather map.

It just won't go away...

ROBBY P: I absolutely HATE driving in those conditions. I've irked a few bosses in the past with my decision to preserve my life, limbs, and property. Whatever you decide YOUR safety and well-being has to come FIRST. You won't do them anygood injured or worse. You won't do them any good sitting in the ditch with a wrecked car. Hopefully, this isn't the first winter your boss has had to have trailers jockeyed around in. Hopefully he cares about his guys a little more than he does quotas.

Stay SAFE, my friend.

JEFF: I think Aleve is naproxen...which can irritate the stomach and make stomach problems (like ulcers) worse. Never heard of it irritating people in general. It IS good stuff however, seems a little more potent to me than the feared ibuproffen, which I live off of at times.

JIM: Love the paint scheme, by the way...can't wait to see it in photos of actual units.

TODD: What? You mean you didn't faithfully recreate a La-Z-Boy in all it's intricate details?? You didn't craft an exact replica of a Bark-O-Lounger? I'm shocked! Nay, STUNNED, appalled!Laugh Actually, even a lump of putty shaped kinda like a chair would w**k just fine for an unofficial "break area" kinda toward the back of the bay...near the future so-dee pop mochine. Also, it sounds like you've re-certified in "advance s**w shoveling" with the successful completion of a number of practical evolutions today. We'll have to see about finding you an appropriate certificate.

PHILLIP: Ok Pally, we've seen where you're at layout-wise... whaddaya wanna do now? We're ready to start pokin' and prodin', just need to know which direction we should point you in.

My "driving weather situation".   I have hills (lots of hills), a Dodge Neon that is just to light for snow.  Heard a lot of people who own them say they are bad in snow.  We also have a Sonata which might be good, but not very good tread on the tires.  The ground is froze, so it will stick.  So it will be a mess in the morning.

I agree 100%!!!  Its not that I don't want to go to work, I don't wanna wreck my car, get hurt, etc...

I want to get snow tires, but who knows when that will be.   I will wait and see what the roads look like, and she already said "if they are bad, your not going!!!"   She even asked if I wanted her to call me off.  I would like to see my supervisor face on that one.

Well its bed time.  I will catch everybody tomorrow.

Oh and I will let you all know what happened.

Hey ya'll. RBF for me

Got my car on the ground last night and drove it to work today. It still needs to be aligned, but thats happening tomorrow. I'll drop it off for alignment before I go to Pensacola to get some more parts (quarter windows and passenger side rear interior panel) and pick it up on the way back. When driving I noticed that the shifting was a little bit stiff, but it might be the new throwout bearing. I have a spare T5 that I can have a friend rebuild in the event this one acts up.

Wish I had some funds since one of the hobby shops over there is have a sale on certain Athearn RTR PS boxcars, at 5 bucks each... That and I need Kadees and metal wheelsets.

Todd, Chris, and Jim (and anyone else I'm forgeting): thats for compliments regarding the Geep.

Robb, tough call there.

Jeff, nice haul there.

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Robby, that is a tough call!  I think Jim has hit the nail on the head though.  Always remember.....your wife knows where you sleep!  If she ain't happy, you ain't happy!  Forget the boss......if she's OK with your plan, you're golden!  I'm not saying the boss isn't important.  It's just that in the grand scheme of things, the wife outranks the boss any day of the week.

Robby - that sounds like a very hard call. I'm sure a lot of it depends on several factors: how cold it'll be tonight, how cold the ground is (cold for several days might be better than if the ground is warming up what s**w falls, and how quickly), what your roads there are like (hilly, good general condition, or not), how well your car does on s**wy streets, and your comfort level with driving on such (have very much experience on that kinda slush/s**w/whatever?). Plus there's how much the thought of dealing with the idiots who also are on the road with you at that time of the night/morning does/doesn't raise your stress level. Then there's also how many miles your drive to/from w**k is.

You might talk it over with your wife, the Big Boss, and (if possible tonight) your local FedEx boss/supervisor (and with that last, explain to him your reasons for hesitancy about driving under what your conditions there are/are likely to be). You'll need to be (reasonably) okay with whatever decision you come up with, and whatever results are connected with the decision. There's a lot of your situation that I (or anyone else here in the Diner) don't/doesn't know the whole story about, and besides, we're not the ones whose safety/paycheck is affected by the decision. I will put your decision in my AngelAngel (tonight, before bedtime, since you'll have decided before my alarm goes off in the morning). Especially (IMHO) talk it over with the Big Boss and the wife, I'd say.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

OK, just so we're clear, I haven't tried to bail on you all!

I've had car problems and computer problems.  As such, nothings been done on the layout.....but......I did promise some starting point pics, so here they are.  It's a two level layout with staging under that.  (It needs a TON of imagination to see it right now.)

As you walk into the train room, you see Andrew's Junction.  This is a working interchange between a class 1 RR (tentitively called the Northern New England RR for now) and a shortline RR (the focus of the layout, called the Autumns Ridge Railway & Navigation Co.).  Trains in the class 1 come from staging through the backdrop (on the left) onto the sceniced layout.  The interchange tracks are in, but the tracks to the shortline only have the turnout in yet. (Yes, I have a "few" model cars laying around.  Many of them are rare or collectable.  I used to have time for them, then I didn't, but I kept aquiring more.  Now I don't do that either.  Guess I should sell them off for RRing cash, huh?)

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Autumns%20Ridge/IMG_1.jpg

As you come around the end of the island, you see the main (class 1) and it's siding.  the shortline will run just inside of them.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Autumns%20Ridge/IMG_2.jpg

Above the interchange, you have what will be the final terminus of the line (at least the modeled part), the port city of Autumns Ridge.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Autumns%20Ridge/IMG_4.jpg

(Not much of a city yet, huh?)

Ok, back to the tracks.......down below Autumns Ridge, we see the end of the mainline siding and towards the back is where the main heads off stage.  The shortline will cross over the main, obscuring the disappearence of the main to staging.  On the right you can see where I had the staging done with Atlas track, but now I'm removing that to put in Unitrak.  This staging will all be hiddden and the shortline will have a town above it (like 6" above it).  You'll notice the upper deck above.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Autumns%20Ridge/IMG_3.jpg

And here's some more staging......

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Autumns%20Ridge/IMG_5.jpg

And now we come to the far corner of the room.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Autumns%20Ridge/IMG_6.jpg

And here's the loop to head back through staging.  A helix will be here to get trains from the top to the bottom levels, and vice-versa.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Autumns%20Ridge/IMG_7.jpg

And thats how she sits......for now.

Train control is DCC through a Digitrax Super Chief Radio Equipped setup with a DT400R and a UT4R.

For those interested in a track plan, here's the staging (i've slightly changed it since this was drawn, but you get the idea)

The door to the room is in the top right of these plans.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/My%20Plan/Blank3004-1R1Keeper-1.jpg

Here's the bottom sceniced level.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/My%20Plan/Blank3004-2Keeper-1.jpg

And here's the top level.

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/My%20Plan/Blank3004-3Keeper.jpg

A bit of a closeup of the interchange looks like this.  When I drew this, I had the layout planned to be flipped from where I ended up building it.  The tracks are in the same orientation, but it's like a mirror image, OK?

http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/My%20Plan/PhillipMain.jpg

And to prove that at one time, it all DID work, a short video of the staging yard and interchange, showing the first train to move on the line.

http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Autumns%20Ridge/?action=view&current=262699db.flv

OK, so enough about the past.......time to press forward!

Jeff, let's see - you could take the Aleve Monday and Tuesday and maybe be irritable, or you could not take anything and be really ticked from the pain. Do I have the choices about right? Actually, I did a search on WebMD.com and it didn't look like the irritability was mentioned as a side effect (so it might be, but it's likely way low down the list). Guess you could call your doctor's office in the morning and ask them... Only place I found irritability listed on the same page with Aleve, was for neck pain & whiplash (which if I recall correctly, isn't what you're taking the Aleve for, right?).

Some of the pain I have IS in my neck. A slipped disk that allows the vertebrae to pinch the sciatic nerve. It mostly stays in that area but sometimes make me hurt all the way down to my knees.

Just a quick stop.......Gotta beat the snow!!!

Jim........I've been torn up all day about this.  They are calling for 2 inches tonight!!!!  That's by day break, and I have to get up at 3:00am.  I'm sure the roads will be a mess.  I honestly don't know what to tell them.  I'm not to drive with that guy again, and I'm not putting my car in danger.  If it gets wrecked, well.........I will be out of work for a few days, or will have to leave work early (take the wifes car to work).  Either way they won't like that.   I just don't know what to do. Confused

Barry, as far as my painting the trees goes, I expect to use a Roof brown over the whole tree, and then after it's dry, go lightly back over that (once dry) with a grey/greyish-brown (dry-brushed) for some textural effects. I've also debated about taking a file or some picks to the trunk to add some grain to the bark (before I start any painting). THEN, I'll get around to the foliage-adding...Whistling The Delaney will be tougher, I expect. No location for that building yet, as the place where I took the 2nd photo only has enough room for one truck to drive by (so unless they have a side-loading door, none of my trucks could 'back' up to the dock to load/unload). I'll need a bit deeper of a space between the one track on the side of the Delaney building to have room for trucks to turn and back up to the loading doors. With that location in the pic, the truck could only get to the one lading door on the narrow end of the building. Sigh

Janie, could I have a hot fudge sundae and a Santa Fe mug of decaf, please? Thanks again.

Jeff, that Aleve doesn't have the potential to become addictive, so that's another plus for the Aleve over the Lortab. Thumbs Up I've heard of people on some pain meds (as prescribed) who wound up getting addicted to them and having problems getting off them when their body healed up.

I don't see anything on the box about it but I've been told by some medical personnel that Aleve has been known to make some people irritable. Hope it doesn't happen.

JimRC:  I kinda like the way those trees are coming together. That is going to be a bit of a job on the painting I'd think but then againWhistling I'm in the process of deciding how the Olsen Feed/Larsen Implement kit is going to become part of the overall Leemer Farmers Coop complex. It has a lot of tractors--about 3--and a couple of combines as well so that'll add a number of things to the set up as well. I'm going to like painting all those bits----Whistling I'm going to spend a few days rejigging the set up there--

JimRCGMO
Got some more done on the Delaney Transfer Co. building that I'd showed here a while back

There is a lot of progress there!!Approve Did you have a location for it set up? Like the above---I end up having to fiddle with everything---one thing don't fit then end up moving 5 different things before things fit againSigh

Any argument carried far enough will end up in Semantics--Hartz's law of rhetoric Emerald. Leemer and Southern The route of the Sceptre Express Barry

Good Afternoon, Janie - I'll have a grilled cheese sandwich and a bowl of creamy tomato soup with some cheese croutons on the top, please, with a RBF also. Thanks!

So Ulrich, was this your and Petra's first introduction to Steffi (or had you met her before this Christmas)? And if it was, what'd you and Petra think? Did 'young' Christian make a good choice? Smile,Wink, & Grin Know that tonight and tomorrow we will have you and the hospital doctors, nurses, etc. covered in our AngelAngel From my guesstimations, you are about 7 hours ahead of us, yes? What time do you have to get to the hospital (or what time is your test/surgery/doctor's visit)? And would those 'youthful' comments in setting up the computer be the ones that start with "Well, GEE, Dad..." (in THAT kinda "I can't believe my own father doesn't know how to...." tone)? But good that you have the 'puter in place and w**king okay now. Yeah!!

Todd, you scored big time at the 'office party'! Was it like some office parties I've heard about - lampshade on your head, etc.? Has Brenda seen the videos on YouTube yet? ShockWink (Just funnin' ya - I haven't seen any, although that's no guarantee that somebody might not have posted a video or some pics...) Ah, the downside of wonderful technology...Whistling Hey, I was impressed about DerJohn's ballasting too, but remember, he was only doing that in iNvisible scale. Wink

Rob, for your heliport on the hospital, you might see if a LHS or H-L has decals or dry transfers (such as for race cars, airplanes, etc.). They might have something like what you need for your pad. Are you thinking of a circle and/or crosshairs for the heliport? Think the one at the hospital closest to my place is like that.

Galaxy, it sounds like you did up your Christmas celebration for everybody on the gifts. Can I be a relative of yours next year?Wink We tried to do our part to keep things toned down, and besides, this is Elliott's (Trackside) Diner, so we usually wind up having a mug of coffee (or something stronger) after things wind down and we settle down at the RC. Big Smile

Robby, I hope you don't have a repeat of THAT trip to w**k from several days ago...Maybe the boss will take your word if you say that it's a bit too hazardous for driving in (this time).

Trainman Sam - I'm hoping your Bachman looks better than that one in the pics you posted! Shock That's some severe weathering job, all right...Whistling If you're in HO scale, I have their 0-6-0 (saddle tanker) switcher, which looks pretty good and runs okay (so far as I can tell- did some test runs on the MRR club layout). I think your 'puter may have the hiccups, looks like your photos are duplicating or something.

Careful Flip - Todd might re-route some of his sn*wy weather back down your way, even if he has to send it by a hopper unit train! Evil Smile,Wink, & Grin

Jeff, that Aleve doesn't have the potential to become addictive, so that's another plus for the Aleve over the Lortab. Thumbs Up I've heard of people on some pain meds (as prescribed) who wound up getting addicted to them and having problems getting off them when their body healed up.

Still none of that white stuff here, although they keep saying there's a possibility of some s**w flakes drifting down from the sky. We got to about 37 F today (about the same as yesterday), and the wind's still blowing with a wind chill that has a little bite to it. Guess that it's so dry in Chris' area that all the moisture gets sucked out before it gets to us, so nothing to come out of the sky. I'm gonna be careful what I say though, so we don't get socked with the stuff like Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and the Dakotas have been. From the weather radars, it looks like this big white pinwheel is parked over See Der Rabbits and just spinning around the s**w...

I got back to some MRR'ing stuff this afternoon - PC shamed me into it! Wink I figured I'd better be doing something so he wouldn't leave me in the dust with his projects. Got some more done on the Delaney Transfer Co. building that I'd showed here a while back. Will post the pics in WPF too, for others to get a chuckle out of... Here's a couple of pics of it:

I still have the roof braces to put on under the eaves, and I think I'm going to put the cupola on the top of the roof (though the directions say it's optional) and a couple of signs, one over the door and one on the roof. I also mentioned yesterday that I was w**king on some W-S pine trees, spiraling the trunk/branches from their original state (on the left) to a more-random and natural distribution of the branches (on the right):

Still a bunch of w**k to go on things, but a start's a start, right? Smile I have another 7 or so of the trees to make, and then there's the painting of the Delaney Transfer building (next time, I'll do the painting of the walls and foundation before adding the roof...).Oops

I'll be at the window booth, seeing what's up with all that switching today. Hey, Barry, scoot over a little and give me a little room to sit, please. Thanks!

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Jeff. Hows the foot doing?...You are in my prayers...

It's doing as good as can be expected. Still got pain right in the ankle joint. Haven't heard anything further from the doc on the outcome of any tests. Found out today that Aleve does a better job of relieving the pain than Lortab does, and I don't need a prescription to get it.

Merry Christmas!!!

Hello everyone!  Been busy with visitin' folks and family...  Hope everyone had a very pleasant and happy Christmas!?!

My wife got me a Bachmann Spectrum Baldwin 2-8-0 Consolidation DCC Equipped for Christmas!!!  So I now own one of the Steam Loco's from New Hope &N Ivyland!!!

" mce_src="">

" mce_src="">

I just need to pick up an 0-6-0 steam switcher (NH&I #9) ( I think it is also baldwin manufactured, but not 100% sure)

I wanted to know if any of you have one, and if so, is it of good quality and who made/makes it?

Chloe, may I have a Pastrami on Rye and a large coffee in an NJT mug please?

I'll be in the corner for a little while, then I have to go out for the afternoon with my wife and her best friend!!!

I'll try to stop back in later!

Thanks for any input you can give me on the Steam Switcher!

BTW, if that IS our diner, it explains why everything gets thrown around when the switcher moves it!!!

Sam

May He bless you, guide you, and keep you safe on your journey through life!

Good afternoon. Coffee please. Got some snow last night and I scooped the drive. Woke up this morn to more snow, and I scooped the drive. Went to church and attendance was down due to snow I guess, or pooped from Christmas. Came home and it had snowed some more. Scooped the drive. Then it snowed some more. I'm still inside.

About time to head downstairs to you know where.

Have a Great Day!!!

 Good morning/early afternoon.

Just a quick stop.  Not much planned, but watching some of the Steelers game.  They are calling for snow again, and that has me worried about driving tonight to work.  I guess it will be a wait and see.

Hope everybody has a good Sunday.

Jeffrey W. I am also very jealous of that 50' B&O Yellow Boxcar. I go nuts for anything B&O , C&O, Chessie, and am warming up to modern day CSX!

If you really like it maybe we can work something out. Got something to trade?

HI guys!

Hawaiian Hazelnut Kona Coffee please in a  big B & O Mug.

I hope everyone had happy holidays however you celebrate them and whatever you believe in.

Not a white Christmas here except what little was left on the ground. A sheet of Ice covered teh vehicles this AM though from rain yesterday and last night's chilly temps.

Took a fancy french toast breakfast to my father, much like a cinnamon stickybun frenchtoast made by my other half  and  a TeeShirt that says "Assembled in the USA from Norwegian Parts" for his {and mine} USA descendancy from Norway {hisGrand and and my great grandparents}. Had dinner with the  InLaws. Got MIL a book as she is an avid reader and the FIL a bottle of White Zinfandel. He likes to make his own wine and had some this year, but not knowing if he did, we brought him some.MIL is from Germany, which she missed terribly...now if only to find her an Omp-pah Teeshirt. We also ordered pineapples from Hawaii this year to give to everyone. Weren't too sure they were gonna be here in time for Xmas but low and behold they arrived last Monday.THey are far sweeter than the costa-Rican ones in the store or in cans ...so sweet it makes my teeth hurt- even the fake ones! Has to do with Hawaii's great soil for pineapples. Pineappples are also a symbol of welcoming.

I see it looks like  I missed a near miss on a flame war here in the diner a few days ago that I'm surprised didn't get the diner locked and barred!

The prayer candle will be up for those in need today.Angel

Jeffrey W. Special thoughts and prayers go out to you about your leg. I read about it and I really hope you don't have to loose it. My other half, being also a minister, will say extra prayers for your recovery. I am also very jealous of that 50' B&O Yellow Boxcar. HAve a great day, everyone!

A light coffee in a  UNION PACIFIC  mug, please.

***Jim, I like the idea of waiting until the 6th to de-tree. Wonder if my wife will go for it?Whistling Hey, I'm impressed with anyone who can clearly see those figures, let alone paint them by hand.

Last night I took the front section of sidewalk with light posts (extras from the Sons Of Anarchy structure), shaved them a bit and used for the ambulance side of the Hospital. Added a LED above the door, plus a roof (also from scrap material) and it's ready for paint. Still need to go look at a helipad for the roof.

Have a good day y'all.

 Good Afternoon,

I just took the young folks to the train station - as I said, it was good to have them with us for some days, but it is now also the time to get some rest...

Thanks to Christian, my PC now has found the place it was meant to have - on the desk in the extra room. I was not able to configure the WLAN and he does these things in no time at all, accompanied with those typical comments young people give to the elder... Big Smile

CU later ....

Good Morning

We's be getting a bit of tiny snowflurries with a small bit o' sun today. High is going to be about -1C with the low hanging around -3C. Monday will see us getting about 5cm of snow--that'll be the most we've had all 'winter'Whistling

Ulrich: Hopefully they'll be able to get a handle on what it is that they need to get done! We've got you on the church's prayer list here!Angel

Jeff: I agree with Ulrich. That IS our diner!!

Speaking of diners I'm looking at scratchbuilding this little fellow---I've been at this place numerous times---especially in my High School daysWhistling

The interior has changed a 'little' over the years while the exterior had only the front entranceway redone.

Anyhoooo--today is pick up a few goodies for New Years eve and do some housecleaning---such as what one can get done with all the stuff crammed in here---

Chloe, I'll just have a coffee for now---I'm over at the window booth checking out  all that switching--rather busy on a Sunday innit?Tongue

Good morning,

Jim, the Digitrax simplex UTR you have to set the loco address then plug in to acquire the locomotive, with the duplex UTD you can acquire the locomotive without plugging in as long as you are within 3 meters of the antenna. I don’t see the need for the duplex unless you try to run several (3+) locomotives at once by yourself, or if you have the need for 29 command functions the UTR has only 12, so if you have a BLI you may want to upgrade, however I see the new BLI has programmable automatic sounds (for me) that kind of defeats the need for commands 13-29.

Dorothy wants the deer to have a red nose, so I don’t think I can hide anything with her around.

Good morning. It's 34 and clear. The high will be in the mid 50's and it will be partly cloudy.

Went to Alexandria yesterday with some friends and made a stop at the LHS where I picked up a Bachmann Silver Series B&O boxcar in the yellow paint scheme. From there we went to Hobby Lobby, which was the big draw for the rest of the crowd. With most everything 50% off, I can see why. Also picked up some model cement and a jar of WS blended turf. A wheelchair isn't too bad when you have someone to push it. Got home and found that my two new Bachmann flatcars with container loads had arrived in the mail. I also found something on my doorstep from the local rivet counter. A D&RGW 'Cookie Box' boxcar. I have little use for it myself but a friend sent me an email message asking if he can have it and I'll be sending it off at the earliest opportunity. I also have several other packages that will be going out soon.

Just got back from the Christmas party and WEE WHOOOO!!! My Secret Santa got me a case of Lone Star Beer!!! My favorite. AND I won a tin of Herring in tomatoe sauce from a win in Bingo, and a candle in a jar in find the employees name. (Find A Word the owner made up) Didn't win anything in trivia. Came in second.

DerJohn- Yep that answers my question. And a hearty Bowfor the amount of ballasting you did in one fell swoop! I don't think I could do that. No, I know I couldn't do that!

Chris- Don't get too worked up over the recliner. It's more built to be seen as something to fill a space than an accurate piece of furniture.

Jim- No, luckily the electricity savings never came up. Actually that's a new one on me. Glad to know thoughThumbs Up. With the picture we have on the TV in the basement, something she can see would be all she needs to make her happy.

Way, way, way past time for beddy by. Haven't seen this time of day in a long time. Wasn't sure it still existed. Church at nine will come sooner than I want!

Prayers to those in need.
