No I'm not dead. Just been workin on the layout and texting my butt off, lol.

I might get the roof done today on the furniture factory, or I'll wire up the layout a bit more. I picked up the wire today for both the town side and also to run a bus. will just be soldering connections though, as it still works fine and also is a HECK of a lot cheaper than suitcase connectors. In other ANRR news, 3 50' insulated boxcars have arrived, as well as 4 Evans 53' dbl. plug door boxcars. The furniture factory can be switched out, although there are not enough boxcars on roster to model the flow of lumber (I'll be building up a boxcar fleet for this b/c they can be used to switch out other industries. I'll later build up a fleet of centerbeam flats to take over this job.) Don't have any pics. have taken some with my new phone. the Env3 has a 3 megapixel camera. not magazine quality, but still decent snapshots.

 Have a great day folks!

Good afternoon Diner people!

Just thought I would pop in before leaving to get my sister who is returning from the "very far".  Mexico this time actually.  While checking my email, I found a video sent out through the museum server (same one that the LSD NMRA uses).  It should have been sent out before Christmas I think,  Server has evidently not been doing its thing.  An email I sent out to NMRA members several days ago finally went out this morning.  Anyway, I though you folks might enjoy a Trolley Ride at the New York Museum of Transportation.  The video is shot looking out the front window and may be what people might have seen riding home for Christmas a 100 years ago on the Rochester and Eastern maybe?  (The R & E served Geneva from Rochester until about 1930).  Enjoy!  http://www.youtube.com/rgvrrm

Tom sorry to hear about your step-granddaughter.  Crohn's disease at age 16.......  My heart goes out to her.  Sounds like you had a good Christmas though.  You didn't really miss much in the explosion...  Just the same old being the same old saying what amounted to "Yes it was!  No it wasn't!  Yes it was!  Routine.  Seems to be impossible to have a conversation with some people.  They seem to be stuck at the age of 11 or so..... ("Shut up!"  "No you shut up!"  "I told you to shut up first!"  You can't make me shut up!" etc!)

Robby and Barry, a college friend of mine had a high school classmate who stuck a huge V8 into where the back seat was supposed to be in a VW Bug....  Used to have fun blowing away all the muscle cars in his home town of Torrence, CA............... I have a BIL who used to have a little old Jeep he stuck a Chevy 283 in for the same purpose.  I was kinda cool leaving a stop light blowing blue smoke off all 4 tires........Smile,Wink, & Grin

Need to get a move on here.  Later!

Good afternoon to all, been a while since I dropped into the Diner, I see many familiar faces but no Fergie or Duke or Ed..hmmmmmm, where are those guys? The temp has been dropping like a rock all day, now down to 12.9F and winds are gusting to over 35 at times, so I dont have to tell you guys where the wind chill is!!!

Finally getting to do some MRR today after weeks of other delays. I finally decided that I had enough with my old computer, and I was tired of blowing money buying newer ones every so many years, so I built my own. TigerDirect.com and Newegg.com have the best prices by far if you intend to build your own. The new PC is a beast running Windows 7 64 bit with 6 Gb of RAM and SSD for drive "C". Building it was a piece of cake and I can tell you that you guys can do it with even the smallest experience.Essentially, everything is just plug in. Jeff can attest to that, he has built PCs.

ULRICH: Very happy to hear you are on the road to recovery, may the New Year bring you Health and Happiness.

ROB: Hope you are doing better buddy, hang in there.

JEFF: Time to get rid of Xp and get Windows 7 , build a new PC Jeff, or at least get an new i7 Motherboard.

CLOE: If John, Fergie, Duke or Ed show up, the tab is on me.

RAY: Enough with this cold and wind !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Even the squirrels and Coyotes have run for cover !!! Build the fence higher at the Canadian border !!

GARRY: Glad to see you got back home safe and sound from the holiday trip !

Later guys, mrr time

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Good Morning all from Foggy/RainyCal:

Hope everyone had a great Christmas.  Vancouver was overcast most of the time, but no snow.  Some rain.  The trip up was beautiful going over the Cascades, though.

Unfortunately, Christmas Eve afternoon, my step-granddaughter Robyn had a flareup of Crohn's disease that put her in the hospital for two days.  So most of the holiday was spent going back and forth between the hospital.  Unfortunately she has a system that doesn't respond well to pain medication--even a morphine drip--so it was not a pleasant situation.

I hate to think of what she's got in store for her with that disease--she's only 16.  I sincerely pray that it doesn't involve surgery in the future.  That's one NASTY disease, and as she told me, you never know when it's going to strike.  She's one sweet girl, and I hate to see her in pain.   Part of the controlling of the disease is very carefully watching your diet, but at 16 it's hard to follow some of the rules.

Hell, at 70, it's hard for ME to follow some of the 'rules', so I know where she's coming from, LOL!  Tongue

Santa was good to me, he got me a gift certificate to Bruce's Train Shop here in Sacramento, plus a cute little 'undec' Bachmann Spectrum 2-10-0 that runs like a little jewel.  I have no idea what the Yuba River Sub is going to do with a 2-10-0, since the Rio Grande never had that wheel arrangement, but I'm sure I'll find something to do with it, and a fake number classification to squeeze it into.  I mean, hey, after all, MY Rio Grande bought Yellowstones, so I suppose MY Rio Grande could have had a 2-10-0, right?   I mean, sometimes it's necessary for 'reality' to take a back seat to 'what-if'. Whistling

Seems I missed another explosion on the Forum, though I did catch the first part of it.  I kinda liked the StromBecker post until it deteriorated into a Slam-fest.  I still thought those kits were an awful lot of fun when I was a kid.  Building them was sure a big help with better kits when I started taking HO seriously.  Oh well--

Ulrich:  Glad you're getting released by New Year's.  So the "Beetles" don't sell well in Germany?  Out here in California you see them all the time.  I had one of the earlier ones when I was in college, and those little puppies were Indestructable.  Got me thoroughly convinced that the Germans build the best cars in the world.   I've been a devout Audi driver for the past ten years and love 'em!

Jeff:  Sorry to hear about the 'puter.  Dang, buddy, sure hope stuff turns around for you this New Year!

Decided what I'm going to do with my Bruce's gift certificate--use it to start collecting those Walthers "City" cars.  I've got a lovely BLI "City of San Francisco" A-B-B E-6 set that desperately needs a train.  Of course, I'll have to wait until this time next year to obtain the full train, but it should be fun.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Its lunch!!!  I will just take a sweet tea to go.

I went out this morning, and got me some SNOW tires.  It only took 3 hours to get them put on the car.  Talk about a wait.   So...........I should be good to go, as far as work wise.

Ulrich.......I agree.  I guess its the "southern" in me, thats part of the reason I can't drive in snow.   I wish we could meet in the middle with this.  Most of my jobs have.

Todd......I guess it does work both ways.  I like the job, and he told me I am hs eyes and ears.  Just that dang "SNOW" keeps getting in the way.

Jeff.....I know all about computer crashes.  I'm having to use the wifes laptop, and I hope this one doesn't crash.  Man I wouldn't hear the end of it.

Jerry.....I was looking at jobs around here, and VERY VERY few.   Hopefully my tires will make a difference.

Ray......Good ole' VW.  My grandparents had one and snow was nothing to it.  Its good to have the engine in the back.  I had a 1972 standard beetle.  Factory look........NO WAY!!!!!!!!  I painted it teal, with a purple pearl.  It would change color in the sunlight.  The inside was out of a Ford Mustang.  The radio was four (yes four) 15 inch woofers, and it was LOUD.   The engine was all chrome.  Duel carbs, drag cam, BIG pistons, the bug was also slammed to the ground.   It rode so rough, when my grandmother would ride in the car, sometimes her teeth would pop out.  The engine was so LOUD.......The neighbor was going to call the police (thanks to the cam).  The whole car shaked.  It was GREAT.  Had that "Chevy big block" sound.  Thats one of my favorite cars I've owned.

Mornin' everyone!

Zoe I'll have a big bowl of oatmeal with brown sugar this morning and a cup of dark roast coffee in a FGLK Mug.  What can I say, I'm a creature of habit.....  I'll be in the front booth watching the switcher working a string through the drifts.......

Ulrich glad to hear you will be making a break for it before the New Year!  Hope you are doing well. There are a few of the New Beetles around Geneva, but they are all the diesel powered ones.  I see they have gone back to gas engines for them.

Jeffrey sounds like its time for a computer upgrade to me.  Knock on wood my 5 year old Mac G5 still keeps plugging away so it will be a few more years before i feel the need to "upgrade".  Without all the business stuff I will most likely go to the iMac type when the time comes.

Lee- Were those meant to be links in your first morning post? Or are you laughing your posterior off knowing I'm sitting here clicking away on every blue word trying to get it to bring up a picture. Laugh

I was wondering the same thing Todd........

MMM--I was a strange duck back then

Back then, Barry???  (Sorry I can't leave a straight line like THAT alone.....Smile,Wink, & Grin)

It is currently a sweltering 9°F outside the house with wind chills bringing it down to around -9°F.  Forecast calls for snow and wind!  Nice day for a drive to Rochester International Airport.  My sister arrives late this afternoon and I get to give her taxi service to her house.  Aren't I lucky??? Whistling  I also forgot to pick up her winter coat yesterday when I was feeding the kitties so I get to go via her house in Canandaigua...  Luckily it is not too far out of the way.

If I get moving, I might actually get some railroading time in before I have to leave.

I'll catch you all in a bit!

Ulrich- We have the new VW's over here. Have for several years now. Pretty good sellers at least around here. Are you speaking of a newer yet Beetle? That's great news you're gonna be set loose Thursday.

Todd - the New Beetle is not a seller over here - VW is planning to replace it next year or the year after next. They had plans for a car called "The Bug", with a rear engine, just like the good old bug. Would love to have one of those Smile

Hey Jeff, sorry to hear about your computer troubles.  I wish you the best of luck and getting it taken care of.

Ulrich, glad to hear from you and also glad to hear that you will be getting out of there for New Years!

Well all its a cool morning down here in Bama, low last night was 25 and its only right about freezing at this time, but that's all right.  I'm currently at my house waiting for the gas company to show up and fill the tank for us, but if he don't show up in a few minutes, I've gotta jet to the fireworks stand to go and open it at 10, then I have to be at w**k at 1, so its a pretty busy morning for me.  Thanks for all the advice on the couplers all.  I've been emailing back and forth with Jim and he's got a bunch of accumate and such knuckle couplers that he's taken off whilst switching over to Kadee's, so I believe that I'm going to take those off his hands until I can start accumulating Kadee's to convert my fleet over.  If any of y'all have any spare couplers (don't really care what brand they are at the moment as long as they are knuckle couplers) I'd be happy to take them off your hand, just shoot me a message.

Other than those things not much happening in my neck of the woods, guess I'm heading off to the other end of town to go and open the stand up, wish the gas co would call and say that they were on the way so I'd have an idea of what's happening on their end.  Oh well...

Todd, I’ll fix the links when I get home, sorry about that.

Jeff, I see those AT&T laptops are $299 if you sign up for a 2 year wireless connection with them.  I have the USB AT&T wireless add on for my laptop and I love it.  The only time I’ve had a connection problem is near major highways during rush hour due to the cell tower switching issue.  You could convert your old hard drive to a USB external drive.  If you set it to Disk Zero, LUN Zero you can boot from the external.  The external boxes with power supply run about $15.

Computer crashed first thing this morning. I had to do another Windows setup to get it going again. The sound drivers won't load, the display drivers won't load, the PCI bus won't initialize and the onboard USB ports are dead. Looks like the main board has had the computer version of a stroke. I put in an add-on display card so I at least have default video. No, the drivers for it won't load either. Remember the PCI problem? It's a PCI video board. Looks like a new computer may be the lower cost choice this time around. All my drives are ATA 100 IDE and finding IDE capable boards is like hunting for hens teeth. To rebuild the current system I would need to get a new mainboard, at least one SETA hard drive because I seriously doubt I'm going to find an IDE board and a SETA compatible CD drive. That all adds up to a major expense in money I just don't have at this time. Looks like I'll only be online a couple of times a week when I can get to my parents computer.

Good morning. Ham and eggs please, over easy with hash browns, the shredded kind, no the diced ones, no how about the rough cut, aw, make it the sliced potatoes. With onions. Coffee too, Thank you

Utility bill was about $100 less than I thought. That's a yeah. However, that just means 100 less I have to pay, not 100 more to play. Not sure what my work hours are going to be this week, the owner kept saying something about I may call you for some things. ( I hope it's not to wash her feet. She's a very pretty lady, so that means she probably has nasty toes.) Going in to see Mom today. It's Tuesday and the FLHS is open. Unfortunately I can't think of anything I need/want that is in the end of month budget. Or the "dip into next month's budget and hope for the best" budget.

They have done something with my internet connection (cable) in the past few months. It was rather shakey and I lost connection enough times in a day to thing it possibly was my modem but then there was a prolonged outage, like 4 or 5 hours, a month or two or three ago and the thing has been rock solid ever since.

Robby- I see both sides here, your Supervisor needs employees and you need to keep the cars operable and would prefer to remain alive to see that the railroad gets completed. You know what is safe enough for you. A job is a necessity, but only if you're around to need one. I agree, start looking for another job before the Stuper-visor gets a wild hair.

Ulrich- We have the new VW's over here. Have for several years now. Pretty good sellers at least around here. Are you speaking of a newer yet Beetle? That's great news you're gonna be set loose Thursday.

I think I'm going downstairs to the train room before I get involved in lifes daily events.

7.3” of snow here in 24 hours, too bad it arrived 2 days after Christmas.  Still snowing and we may get another 3-5”.

Sam, I have an older Bachmann 0-6-0 with tender; not too impressed the locomotive doesn’t move until you have about 50% power on.  Not sure it’s worth the effort to install a new motor and convert it to DCC or not.  We shall see.

Bama, you could start out with a car that has horn hooks on one side and a knuckle coupler on the other, or hook horn on one end of the locomotive and a knuckle coupler on the other. I found using the Life-Like and the Bachmann replacement couplers easy, KayDee #5 is the best, but they are more expensive than the plastic couplers.

Good morning all,

I’m behind on posts so I’ll try to catch up later.  Saturday, Sunday, and Monday I worked on the area around the Ice House just south of the LS&W yard near Fox Creek, OH.  I’m modeling a rough grassy area with debris of a torn down field stone structure the RR removed to make room for the Ice House.  Since then the RR has discarded several 55 gallon drums and some scrap steel on the adjacent empty lot.  It appears some Methyetheleatyourfaceoff has escaped some of the drums.  This doesn’t seem to deter the deer from grazing on the rough grass.

 Good Afternoon All,

I have just finished my luxury hospital meal Dead and slipped out again.

Robby P. - your supervisor seems to lack any social competence at all - I think it is irresponsible of him to call you on duty when road conditions prohibit your safe arrival. IMHO, your rant is justified! I hope you don´t lose your job, though - I keep my fingers crossed!

Ray - I started out with a VW bug myself. It was a 1972 1302L in dark blue. I bought it used with very little mileage. Never failed on me until I sold it. I still wonder how I managed to get in and out of this car... Big Smile A couple of years ago Volkswagen was pondering whether to produce a "real" VW bug again, based on the platform of the new "up!"-generation  of sub-miniature cars (i.e. the new Lupo, but I am not sure, whether this one is marketed in the US/Canada). It was supposed to have a rear engine and looked very close to the old one.

The New Beetle does not sell well over here - it is just a VW Golf (or "Rabbit") with a lot less space. I have not heard whether VW is following up on this project.

Edit:

I just heard that I will be out of this place by Thursday morning - in time for New Year´s Eve! Still no clue what caused the break down, but as long as I am feeling fine, I don´t give a dang!

The weather-guessers are predicting 16 - 18" of sn*w  over the next days in and around Hamburg Shock

"Rant"  I know at 5:00am Dead

Well the roads were covered again, and no way I was making it to work (tried both cars).  I tried, but the cars was all over the place.  Came back home to call the supervisor, and he tells me "One more call off, and your fired".   I was furious, well I'm still furious!!  So.........If it snows again, and I wreck, I loose my job?   I didn't ask, I was worried I would go off.  I'm honestly REALLy turned off about that job.  Ever since the wreck trying to get to work last week.  I guess its time to start job hunting again.

I will pop back in later.  Once everybody wakes up.

 Good Morning Everyone,

Zoe, make that a large coffee for me, please n´ thanks!

I am done with today´s tests, no reason to stay in bed all day long. I just got dressed and walked over to the internet cafe to check my mails. My provider will not transfer the "old" messages, so they are lost for good... Sad. I hope I did not miss anything important - like an invitation for a job interview.

Jeff - I am with you! I just hate having computer problems. My internet connection at home is just like push-ups - up and down and up again, maybe down in a second. It is supposed to be highspeed DSL ... Sleepy

No idea, how long I will have to stay in this place. I am getting bored, as there is just nothing I can do other than read, sleep or walk around a little. Petra will not come today, as the roads are icy this morning. I hope they get sick and tired of me and send me home soon Smile,Wink, & Grin

Hope you all have a good day  take care!

I've been down with a busted computer. It crashed five times yesterday before I got to where I could do a somewhat successful setup. The video drivers won't load, the sound is on the blink and half the USB ports don't work. That spells main board trouble! Great! Just what I didn't need. I tried installing an old Sound Blaster board in an attempt to get sound back but no dice, it wouldn't load. XP can't see a 16 bit device. The USB ports that are out are the ones that came preinstalled on the main board. The added on ones work fine. That points another finger at the main board. I'm also getting some flaky readings from the CPU. Still another main board indicator. Looks like the computer is gonna be down for a while.

Ugh, I can't sleep... And I'm getting up in 6 hours to leave for Boston... (for someone who's 15, 6 hours of sleep is NOTHING)...

Jim- Not sure how much of an advantage the garage really is. The decals were dry to the touch, but were destroyed the second they hit the water... Maybe something to do with the cold temps in the garage, and they weren't sealed correctly? IDK. I'll try again in a few days when I get back from Boston...

I'm bring my computer up with me, but IDK how much I'll be in while I'm up there...
Later!

Good evening. I'll have a bowl of red from the pot Jim wanted nothing to do with, a peanut butter sandwich and a glass of milk. Manna from Heaven.

Ray- Ah the VW bugs. Great cars actually. Excellent in bad weather and made you appreciate the creature comforts. All that plus an exhaust that sounded like a goose breaking wind in a fan. Loved them. I wouldn't recommend taking one on for hops either. I've seen many a tough car to beat, be embarrassed by the unassuming Bug. My Dad had one back in the '60's, a black one with a whiteish interior. I can still smell the thing. Yep, even right now I can. Not a bad smell mind you just a distinctive smell the interior had. I recall him letting me start the car as he, of course, stepped on the clutch. First car I ever started. Boy I sure thought that was great! I'm not a big NASCAR fan but I sure recognize those names!

Flip- (sigh) Couldn't resist could ya.

Garry- Great news indeed!!!!! Like you said could be better, but it's still GREAT!

Welp, the chili's a workin on me so I best be headin home afore I gets throwed out.

Prayers for those in need and for Doctors to make the right choices.

Garry, glad to hear that your doctor's appointment went okay.  Also glad to hear that you had a good time with family over Christmas.

Jim, email sent to you sir.

Well y'all, its just ticked off to 11pm and I'm up and wide awake.  I'm going to be taking a shower and hitting the sack in a few no matter what.  I've got to head up to my land tomorrow morning and wait for the gas company to show up and refill our tank (someone, read: Amy, didn't call them last Monday and we kinda ran out Christmas night, so we're back at the house in town).  Oh well, I don't have to be at work till 1, but I do have to get out to the fireworks stand to open it up for the first crew to come by and run it.  I've kinda inherited being the 2nd guy in charge of the whole shebang.  I'm not complaining, its just funny how all I did was volunteer to help run the thing, yet I've become the other "go to" guy about it.  I finally got a call this afternoon to get a side job that I had lined up for earlier in the day taken care of.  Nothing major, just replacing a fuel injector on a '96 Cavalier, thankfully my customer is pretty good and has already told me that I'll be checking some other vehicles out for them.  Nothing in the world like having repeat business.  Ahh, well, I'm getting ready to knock off here, the day might be long tomorrow.  I've got w**k from 1 till 10 tomorrow night, so yeah....

Good evening ...

Looks like y'all had some great Christmas celebrations, I'm glad for that.

Our trip to Ohio went fine, and we had some great times visiting the family there. I took the truck because weather forecasts were awful. It was not very bad driving going to Ohio. However, on the way home yesterday, we had snow the entire distance from Cincinnati to Louisville. Then from Louisville to Elizabethtown, it was freezing rain. So, the truck was the best vehicle. At E'town, we headed west on the KY Parkway and weather cleared after about 50 miles.

Today, we were in Nashville. I'm pleased to report test results at my medical appointments today in Nashville.  The good news is my heart did not get worse during recent months. Of course, I would prefer seeing an improvement. As long as it does not worsen, that's fine because I don't wish to be a heart transplant patient.

Yeah, I had a 72 Bug......GREAT car!  Couldn't kill it!  floated it out into Long Island Sound, across rivers, hit a telehpone pole at 25mph and backed up and drove away, you name it.  An old girlfriend finally burned it to the ground.....LONG story.

I've often thought of getting another.

My last "Bug" and my first "new" car was a '71 Superbeetle.  When I first got it I put in an extractor exhaust system (which was not much more than a "scavenging" straight pipe).  It kicked the 60hp 4 cylinder flat engine up to around 72hp.  Pretty good boost % wise.  I used to do Wheelies with it when I would leave Chemung School after teaching music there.  A couple of my students thought that was very cool!!!  You may have heard about these two....  Bret and Todd Bodine?  Anyway I drove that Superbeetle for 15+ years and it finally died (the body just complete self destructed - something about New York Winters...).  Something about that first "new" car though...

I did a bit more scenery tonight.  Cutting, shaping, and gluing down foam board mostly.  Also completed the main construction of another Tichy Flat Car.  Just needed some poiping put in place.  I have one more of those to build.  Will wait until the lkast one is together before painting either of them.

Hope everyone is having a good evening.  My prayers for all those who need them!

Evening, Chloe - I'll just have an oatmeal raisin cookie and a Rio Grande mug of coffee, please. Thank you!

Welp (as Todd would say), the weather reports from 'back East' (as some of my relatives might say) do not sound great. Barry, Ray - good to hear you both are at home and off the roads there. Sn*wblower? What is such a thing? I have never seen one of those in the wild, I think...Whistling (I'd better be careful, or certain Diners might be throwing some sn*wballs at me - or else, saving them up to throw at me next summer...) May the city plows NOT cover up your driveway more than the requisite one time. Oops

Bama/Eddie - got your email, and backatcha!

DerJohn - I meant the auto license, not the driver's license. My bad! To renew the plates here, it used to be you had to have the property tax receipt (or exemption note from the county clerk, saying you didn't have anything the previous Jan. 1st), then take the car to get it inspected (don't want nobody littering the roads with parts falling off'n their cars, y'know), and then take the inspection paper, form, and tax receipt to the license bureau office (home of such wonderful customer service that they would give Al Quaida a good name...), where you get to stand in line to pay your money and get your plate (DO NOT wait and go there the last 4-5 days of a month. Don't ask me how I know...). Some years, they just give you a stick that goes over the previous year's year number. Oh yeah, and if some vandal steals/scratches off the sticker, you're out of luck and have to go get another one. Ah, bureaucracy!

(Sorry for the slight SoapBox there... I should be glad that I now have a vehicle to get around in now, right?)

Ray - thanks for that story about the cold day and your VW - choice one! Laugh

NS Joe, I think you may have the edge on me there, with your garage to do the spraying in. The area in our MRR club (a basement area) had some dust or something on the floor, so there were a few flecks or something on a couple of the larger logos. I waited for the spray to dry, and tried to gently rub the flecks off. Got some but not all. We'll see how they are tomorrow when I'm gonna try to start by decalling a 40' boxcar with some. As for the airlines, I suspect that the Al Quaida director of training may be in a heap of trouble, with two 'fowl-ups' in a row. (That's if he hasn't - so to speak - lost his position as 'head' of training...Whistling Uh, I better change the topic) Hope your GenSet arrives before too much longer.

Never did find that topic somebody (Ray?) thought would be locked. Do they drop to the bottom once they're locked, 'cause I looked in the first three pages in the index? Ah, well, no biggie.

No word yet from Jeff, Ulrich or Garry on their doctors'/hospital visits. Let's make sure to keep them in our thoughts/prayers (and their doctors/nurses/medical staff).

Blessings and a warm night's sleep (especially for those in the Eastern drifts...),

Evening all, thanks for the information on the couplers.  I kinda figured that I wouldn't be able to keep the truck-mounted ones on the LL and Tyco stuff, but I don't have too-too many of them, and I guess that'll give me practice, won't it?

Jim...Check your emails.

Janie, I'll take a bacon cheeseburger order of bacon cheese fries, and a ginormous RBF.  Ran the fireworks stand for a little while this evening, had to do a little repair work to the place as the 20amp breaker that powered the outlets died, so I had to replace it, or in this case piggyback the outlets onto the unused 20amp AC breaker.  Was fairly uneventful, only had 1 sale for $45.  So we called it a night early and here I sit.

Well, that's about it from my neck of the woods, gotta go w**k at my "normal" job tomorrow, big fun for me I guess.  I hope that I can see my SD40-2 come in maybe Wednesday.

Jim- After the last few days, I can see why they wouldn't ship it by air... And it's not that bad. As long as I get it by the time my Atlas Genset comes in (counting the days! [not reallly, but im super excited]) Big Smile. As for the centerbeam, I guess they just want to make sure I'm not scamming them and getting a free car out of it...
And I just printed my first sheets of decals too. They're in the garage drying as I type this. If they dry soon, maybe I'll be able to decal that caboose tonight?
As for weather, it's cold, but no white stuff. We had flurries today, but it didn't stick. And all the stuff from the last few weeks melted after those two really warm days...

Ray- Have fun with that white stuff!

Barry- Last year, there was one day in October where we got about 6 inches, all while I was in school. Since no one was prepared, a 20 minute bus ride home took 3 hours... THAT was fun...

John- Thanks! And if I see him, I'll get a picture for you Wink

Well, I've gotta go check on those decals. I'll try and make my way back in here tonight, but just in case, Happy New Years!

blownout cylinder
The wonderful thing was getting into the car turning it on and driving away while everyone else was sitting around shovelling away that 8" of snow.Smile,Wink, & Grin

And the fact that when nothing else out there was even going to turn over on a cold morning, they would start!  My Father bought me my first one as wedding present.  It was my first car, a 1960 tomato red, 36 HP VW with well over 100,000 miles on it.  One Winter Morning, when I was in college and we lived across the road in a tiny trailer (Not too much bigger than Jeff's), I went out to start the bug.  Found my Father standing across the road at his house waving at me.  He yelled, "Don't even bother!"  Nothing will even turn over (it was -20*F out).  He had tried both cars, one of which had the battery charger on it.  It turned over  s  l  o  w  l  y...... but would not fire up, then the older car which wouldn't even turn over once.  He finally went out to the barn and tried the Ford 861 Powermaster tractor (6 volt).  The tractor said... click....  Dead!  Dad said he was going to walk up to his cousins Farm Machinery place about 1/4 mile down the road and get a truck to jump everything.  I told him to wait a minute and I would give him a ride.  He went into a fit of laughter as he knew the VW was also a 6 volt system.  I got in the car (It was outside in the driveway), put in the key, the starter groaned, then went, brrrrrrrrr, and the first cylinder over said, phuuut!, she groaned again and the second cylinder, said POP and the car slowly started going, PUTT, PUTT, PUTT, PUTT.  After a couple more revolutions it took off on its own.  I got out to see my Father kicking snow, jumping up and down, and using all of those words He told me never to use........ Smile,Wink, & Grin  He then got a ride up to the "Corner" so he could get the other cars and tractor started.  I loved those little cars!
