Helllloooo!! Biiiig cup of Coffee please to warm me up. I'm once again ignoring Keith's weather reports as I shake off the cold. We had S*** flurries today, no accumulation just floating through the air all miserable looking and stuff. Sunday night doesn't look to promising.

G- Ok. So you remember the Shtuff battle better than I'd hopedWhistlingLaugh. Anyway glad to hear things are improving and the hopes of a future house are still looming out there. Don't worry about the typing. It's not you. You probably have the same faulty keyboard I do!Smile,Wink, & Grin

Robby- Saaaay! That semi trailer looks real good. The shot from ground level really shouts realism. Just right. (as usual)

Ray- And now for the official, and might I say expected, CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Keith- Get an N scale NMRA guage. You won't regret it. It has the heights for docks and distances from the tracks for clearance for most of your questions all in one neat little piece of metal. Among many other useful things, just about every adjustment you need is on this little jewel. Not very expensive and well worth it. And oh yes there are plenty less messy and easier to not glob glues than Testors, but with a bit of practice It'll work great for general stuff. You can't beat it for grabbing and setting fast other than CA. It however doesn't leach well and the liquids are much better for small stuff. Aaaand it's not often that I disagree with Jeff's Identifications, actually I never have, but I think I'd go with the RS1 in this case.

Rob- I used both regular Testors enamel and Polyscale acrylic with no problems on my NuComp trailers. Be sure to wash the powdery release agent off and you shouldn't have any problems. I do prefer acrylics. They are easier to remove if needed and just seem to give a more realistic coating.  My 2 cents.

Ulrich- There is one thing all countries share. When it comes to the movies, every one has a country that is stereotyped based on the feelings at the time. Years ago our two countries would have the other as the bad guy. Germany had the evil man with the slick black hair, scar, long cigarette holder and he was just plain bad. Now, we think (know) Germany is Vonderful!! Ah thank goodness for time. Everytime I hear or see where WWII vets meet the men they stared down the barrels of rifles at, long ago enemies, and hug over the horrors they faced in another place and time, it brings a tear to my eye and a lump in my throat. Now there's an example to follow.

Ryan- good to see you again. (where'd he go?) I missed the edited part, but I hope it was a good oneLaugh.

Jeff- I was looking at the radar for South Texas earlier today and I saw your little situationShock. There was quite a large area that was getting the white stuff.

Welp, guess I'll rest for a bit then go to bed hopefully at a decent hour. Gotta get up and till some ground tomorrow before the weather turns AGAIN.

Extra strong coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug, please.

Long farm day, mostly setting out hay in all the pastures & paddocks thru deep mud from all the recent rain. It is in the 40's here today, still T-shirt weather for me.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Ulrich, it's coming along. Unfortunately, the yard scenery has slowed due to three major factors:

 1) I'm lazy and haven't added more weed tufts

2) I'm waiting for my door castings and styrene to come in for the furniture factory

3) I'm waiting for payment for my rs1 to buy some smooth-it for the roads

I have spent some time revamping the town (With the backdrop in place I had some ideas for a much better use of the space). Now it should be a bit more fun/challenging to operate. Should hopefully have an update video tonight.

Good day today. Do have a decent amount of homework this weekend though, but hey, it'll get done at some point.

Jeff.. nice pics again.  Say .. didn't you go to the doctor's today?  I hope all went well.  On a differnent note, concerning your layout.. ..Are you done?  I've got some extra HO stuff..if you're interested.  Just wondering.. what you still have to do.. what you could use.

Yes, I went to see the doc this morning. The swelling in my ankle and lower leg is down by almost half. He was most happy to see that. I go back to see him again Tuesday. On the layout front, I'm never finished. Something is always being moved, modified, trashed or completely redone. Anything you have that you think could be of could be helpful. I don't need track. Got plenty of that. I'm always on the lookout for structures and rolling stock (low brakewheels, no roofwalks) and scenery items.

This looks like a bright light shot but the amount of lighting in the room was equal to that of an ordinary penlight. I'll have to adjust the shutter timing a bit when I get the chance.

Ulrich.. lol.. what can I say.  Ok.. you want to hear a long SAD boring story?  WARNING: sAD Story..  For any of you others out there, this is kind of a sad story.. true.. but then again not too sad.  I went through a period of general malaise,  I think you suffered from it.. with the house and all.  I had lost my dad, in short, he had a heart attack and died.  The paramedics took over 20mins to get to my mom's house.  Of all things to have a heart attack at 7 am... those poor guys were scraping someone off the fwy and taking them to the hospital.  He died in my mothers arms. I had told my wife, if thats a choice.. I could think of no one else's arm's I rather die in.. my own wifes arms.. to comfort me.  So I went through a terrible loss.. losing my dad, he was a great man.  Now I call it General Malaise.. the dicitonary.. well describes it.. as..

1. a condition of general bodily weakness or discomfort, often marking the onset of a disease.
2. a vague or unfocused feeling of mental uneasiness, lethargy, or discomfort.

Well the one part.. marking the onset of a disease.. well who knows.. but I could only describe it and the worst case of arthritis anyone could get.  I was bed for a straight two months.. and ..on/off for a total of 4 months.  Thank God for the History channel and Military channel.. and the soaps.. but most of all I had ebay.  So in short.. I bought some DCC.  LOL.. yup.. bought it all .. it was good therapy for me.  From what I've read.. I think all I have to buy might be some booster.. and what every receivers or transmitters you place in the track.  Consider it .. I know nothing of DCC.  But if you care to fill me in.. on a Reader's Digest Version go ahead..

Tell me why I should run .. DCC with DC since I have room for 2 mains... and a very long lead track (3rd main) .. I'm open for suggestons.  But truth in all, I'll probably build another one.. and do some fun stuff with that too.  I still believe I can get this done by March.  LOL  Its great to have a deadline .. even if you can't meet it.  Right now.. I'm having problems hooking up straight track onto a turnout.. with the connectors.. and trying not to cut out the ties.  Anyone care to help me with that~?

 Good Evening Folks,

Zoe, a glass of milk (?!), please, and a handfull of those chocolate chippers Ray made. I´ll stay right in the middle between Barry at the RC and Jerry over the in the backbooth, just in case I have to act as a mediator...

It has been a busy day today. The kitchen is nearly finished, only little w*rk remaining. The TV now shows 25 channels, but not those, which we had previously. I don´t even attempt to understand this... Question So far for the good news. The bad news that I have developed some form of agora phobia. Whenever I leave our condo, my heart rate goes up like mad and I get respiratory problems. The symptoms disappear the moment I close the door. Hey; I must be turning mad ... Tongue

Garry - "downsizing" to N scale would just be out of necessity. I like the bigger scales much more, also due to my eyesight not being what it used to be. If I had ample space, I´d certainly go into O, On30 or Sn3 scale. Thank God I don´t have to decide within the next weeks or months - the ban my government has put on transportation related capital spendings is still in place.

Keith - I did not quite catch this, you are planning to migrate from DCC back to DC? If so, why? I am not really an expert in electronics, but I find  DCC easy to install and operate. Helps me to cut down on wiring as well, as my soldering skills are, well, let´s not talk about it... Laugh

Tom - take care of that cold of yours. My wishes for a speedy recovery Angel

Sawyer - how´s your layout coming along? I like your pics and vids!

CU tomorrow!

What's this?  Jerry goes to the corner booth. Barry goes to the rivit counter. I hope you guys are not having a problem with each other.

Ryan. ... Interesting about your involvement in 3rd Planit. .. I purchased their software when I started my layout several years ago. After a short while, I put it aside. Out came the T square, triangles, and my circle template, and I planned the old fashioned way. So what if I used a dozen erasers?

On the layout, I am hauling lots of mail and express with Christmas coming. I posted in WPF.

I'll have coffee and a donut. (I won't say where I'm sitting this time.I would not want to pick between two good friends.)

Oops....looks like I stirred up some trouble in here again!!!!

That seems to happen to me more often than not when I step into the MR Diner anymore....

That must have been a real bell ringer!

Jeff, Hehehehehehe......

Ray, glad you checked out the stock. Yes, same procedure for any protein source works for chicken beef, lamb, etc... Now in the case of shrimp or fish....only about an hour or so is enough time. Ham stock is fun too with using up some hocks. And in reference to your inquiry about...my sure proof method for getting a moderate amount of model railroader modern moderation making my mind tilt in wonder about the safety zone rules to protect the fragile....please check your PM's...Oh and don't forget to rinse the bones first before covering with the filtered water, want to get all of blood off too. NMRA meet sounds like a fun event too!

Garry, you mean the everything but the kitchen sink and from the garbage can soup recipe! lol

Got my $970.00 check from MRH for the third and final installment of the 3rd PlanIt tutorial series this week, guess that makes me a professional model railroader now. Laugh

Made some Christmas Rocky Road dessert last night for a Christmas party we are going to tonight, will have to post a link when I get the recipe done up. In the meantime, if you like building model structures, try your hand at building a Gingerbread House.

Mornin' everyone!

I'm up bright and early this morning. Place seems to almost empty this morning.... I get to watch my oldest granddaughter for an hour or so while my son tales the younger one (Emily) to the Doctors for a check up and a vaccination this morning.

Zoe I'll have a raspberry danish and a cup of dark roast coffee in an FGLK mug to start the day.  I'll be in the back warming up by the stove.

It's currently 35°F here in the Finger Lakes and will only get up to 40°F today.  Actually it will be good to get the temps around here down below freezing as right now the molds and mildews from the leaves and other vegetation that is done for the season is making allergies kick into high gear.  It will also slow down the flu and other stuff that is going around.  I've been pretty good except for the allergies (cough, hack!  No Zoe, I'm not contageous....)

I have most of the materials packed for tomorrows Train Show and Fall Meet at RIT.  The RR Club at RIT puts on the show as a fund raiser.  It is one of the best around here.  Great bunch of college students in the club and they seem to enjoy the weekend big time!  The NMRA Tables are right next to the tables for the R & GV Museum, so it should be a fun time for us as most of the people working our tables are in both organizations.

Better get a move on....  Granddaughter will be arriving soon.

[edit] What's this?  Top of the page?  OK Zoe just put everything on my credit card.  Have a big breakfast on me folks!

Good morning, The GS-4 wasn’t the only streamed lined “Northern” (4-8-4) locomotive.  The Milwaukee road had them designated S-4 and I believe the C&O had them (they might have been 4-8-2) as well as the NYC who called them the Hudson, but only the locomotives for the 20th Century limited  had the aerodynamic nose.  I think the SP called them GS for General Purpose or golden State.  If I remember correctly all the “Northern” locomotives were built in Lima, Ohio at the Lima Locomotive Shops.

Robby, great update shots!

Good evening ...

Uh, Oh .... Ryan got in trouble. Naughty, naughty. ... We mad into it/ e our turkey soup already. A little of everything went into it. Even some turkey.

Keith .... you asked abou going back to DC from DCC.  I'm just getting into DCC.I'm not a big expert. Ask jeff or one of the other experts. If you have a recent production loco with the 8 pin connector, you can place the plug back in the socket if you have it to make the engine "DCC ready".

Ulrich ... I feel badly for your situation. It sounds like an unvoluntary downsizing. If you don't want to do N guage (It's too small for me), maybe you could do a streetcar line. You can do a lot of fun stuff in a small place while still being in HO scale. Otherwise, a small switching layout could be fun. Perhaps, you can get one of those neat little German 0-6-0T locos to do the work.

Good Evening Diners!

Well we certainly have winter here now and it will be here to stay. The high today was -6C and it will go down to -15C tonight coupled with a strong NW wind. Can I say 'windchill' .

Today I took the car in for an oil change and coolant flush. I got a call from the service dept to inform me I also needed rear brakes, tie rod ends and a stabilizer link, oh and also new wiper blades. That plus a few other little things set me back $933 after my 20% discount. Merry Christmas Volvo! Oh well, it was largely just maintenance stuff that does wear out on a nearly 10 year old car. It still drives and looks like it is 2 years old. Think I had better delete the wish list at Kleins.

Ulrich, I am in the starting stages of doing an N scale layout, at least I had better be considering all the stuff I've collected in the past year! Anyway I'm 62 and the eyesight thing was a consideration but I found that with good light N is ok to work with. We are planning to move in a couple of years to a condo on the west coast so I won't likely have much space for a layout and also I just find the N stuff neat. Even if we do stay here I will build a layout in a small spare room that will fit nicely which I couldn't say for HO. I could do 8' along 2 walls and at say, 30" wide, I could have a decent N layout.

Tom, sure hope that bronchitis clears up soon and doesn't interfere with all your conducting duties.

Time to head down to the shop and do up a few of those Woodland Scenics trees. My layout looks a little odd with trees on both ends and nothing in the middle to tie the ends together. I plan on another 15-20 so it will look a little better. We're talking about a 4x8 here so that number will make a difference. I also would like to get the structure lights hooked up but doubt I'll have the time before Christmas.

The docs are playing handball with my meds again. When they started me on this Vancomycin they said to use it twice a day. Then they changed it to once a day. Then they said to use it twice the first day the once a day thereafter. Now they say to use it twice a day again. I have to go see the foot doc tomorrow. I'm going to tell him I'm tired of being bounced around all the time. Make up your mind. This way or that way. It's no wonder I'm in a foul mood.

Happy Advent from ChillyCal.

Clear as a bell out here, though that's going to change about Saturday.  Evidently the Storm Door is opening, and we're expecting a nice Alaskan storm to come dipping through about Saturday, dropping lots of the white stuff up in the Sierra and a lot of the wet stuff down here in the Valley.  And that's supposed to be followed by a storm coming in from the Central Pacific (no, not the railroad, LOL!) that's the aftermath of a typhoon, so we're supposed to be expecting about 10 days of rain and some possible 'local flooding'.   We'll see.  I mean, we need water like crazy out here, but I don't think we need it all at ONCE! Shock

Getting the guys ready for the Christmas Concert a week from this Sunday.  Today wasn't the best day of rehearsal, they all sang as if they were suddenly STUNNED about the fact that the concert is a week from this coming Sunday.  But I'd rather it happens now, instead of the middle of next week.  One of the guys came up to me after rehearsal and said, "Doc, I don't know what HAPPENED!"  I just shrugged and smiled and said, "I do.  It's called 'Jitters.'  Don't worry about it.  They go away."  He looked at me and said, "God, I HOPE so!"   Leah and I just chuckled, after.  They're taking it seriously, and that's what counts.  When they start becoming that self-critical, they're well on their way.

I think it will go very well.

Unfortunately, today, my Bronchitis came back with a vengeance, so I'm taking tomorrow off--in fact the rest of the weekend off and just cuddling up in a blanket with Aspirin and Nyquil and antibiotics and lots of chicken soup (and maybe some Rum toddies) and just getting rid of the darned stuff, PERIOD!   Actually, I'm okay, no fever or anything.  Just coughing up a lot of nasty stuff.

Well, got the tree and the wreaths and the lights up in my copious (yah, RIGHT!)  spare time this week, so the house looks pretty neat.  Uff-Dah helped me decorate the tree when Spooky wasn't batting him around ("You don't DO that, idiot!") and occasionally he just sits and stares at the tree as if in some kind of Norwegian trance.  I think he's pining for the Fjords again, LOL!

Jeff:  I saw that German version of TITANIC last year on TCM.   It was made during the Hitler regime, but oddly enough, despite the virulent anti-British propaganda, that film wasn't too far off on some of the stuff that evidently has come to light about that disasterous maiden voyage.   If you kinda/sorta ignore the Nazi propaganda, it's not a half-bad film.   Hope your foot is getting better.  Take care of it, okay?

Ray:  Ah, an ALTO horn!   The marching version.  I remember them from the Air Force, we had a Staff Sergeant who was an absolute virtuoso on that horn--he made it do things that I didn't think possible.  I know that Holst wrote a terrific part for Alto horn in his composition "The Planets".   Neat instrument.  Speaking of Eastman--I have some wonderful older Mercury recordings that were made at that school featuring their incredible wind ensemble--particularly the two Holst band suites and a performance of William Walton's "Crown Imperial" march that STILL knocks me out of the room!   Wow!

Well, I'm heading to bed with some Nyquil.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Blessed Advent, everyone.

Grilled lemon pepper trout with green beans, baby carrots & mashed potatoes, please.

Been a long day running errands. No train time and now I'm too tuckered out. You all have a nice evening!

Evening ya'll, and order of Mozeralla sticks and some Root beer for me.

So the trip to Panama City was so-so. Every Hobby shop I went to was either closed, or had nothing I could use. Railfanning was out since I forgot the camera, I did see a G&W SW1500 switching a paper mill, but I didn't want to stay near that. Things went well with the girl, and I may see her again in a few weeks.

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Evenin' folks!  (had to type that 3 times to get all the letters in right order...... hmmmm???)

Flo I'll just have a big bowl of that Turkey Soup that Ryan brought in and a Ham and Cheese on Whole Wheat.  Need a cup of decafe to wash it down with as well.  Yes a R&GV mug would be good.  I'll go sit with Barry in the corner booth and see what's up with him.

Sheesh both Galaxy and Barry having typing fits here today???  Maybe it was something Kieth said....  Hmmmmmmm?  Have you guys heard about the dyslectic, insomniac, agnostic who stayed up all night pondering the existence of dog?  OK. OK, VInnie, I'll behave...........

Say Ryan I liked your Turkey Soup recipe.  Very similar to the way I make it, but I didn't know about the "do not boil" thing.  I always thought that the clear broth was something you guys got out of a can....  JUST KIDDING!!!   Too bad I have already boiled down the turkey bones.  But next time I will give it a try your way and see what I get.  I assume the same technique would work with chicken carcasses?  So, what did you do to get your self in trouble with the Mods today?  Just whisper it so they won't hear.....

Slowly everything is getting in place for the NMRA Meet this weekend.  If any of you are planning on coming to the RIT show this weekend, be sure and look me up.  I will be at the Lakeshores Division, NFR, NMRA tables most of the time.

Best get packing some stuff THAT I need to take to the show, so I will catch you all later.
