Sunset Beachy, I will be happy to give you my two cents worth on uploading pics.  I must admit,  when I read your first post... I figured.. being a young mind, full of insight and inspiration.. " you'd figure it out.  Also, when I read it, it was well.. "The guy didn't say what operating system he has."  and a few other things.  All I can tell you is how I did / do mine.  I did get a free 'photobucket account, I do have a Kodak camera.  And I do have Vista for an  operating system.

So what I am to tell you.. (unless you have kodak and Vista) won't probably work... but I can tell you what I know.. and perhaps.. this can help spark newer ideas.

After I took my pics.. I couldn't even find them. Oh sure I had gotten the Photo Bucket account going.. but to upload them was a real downer for me.  I found the pics.. in a file.. called "Public" then a sub-tab.. Kodac pics, I had to go to the actual Kodac file to find them.    So I will make this even shorter.. I dont' know what problems you have up-loading up the pics to Photobucket .. but then again that being said.. to find your pics.. If taken by the camera .. you'll find in the Public file.. and then a sub tab Kodak pics.. (for me unless you have Vista)  If you wanted to find your pics...lets say.. that you found off of some site.. and wanted to post that.. well you have to find them under .. tab.. 'pictures'.

To upload the pics lets say to photobucket.. you click on the photobucket uploading tab in the fairly up right of the page.  Then a tab comes up with your files.. somewhere on the left.  Now to find them.. the pics.. you have to decide what / where the pics are.  (all I can tell you.. is there is a button.. to go up just one file to help) That is,  are they in the 'pictures' file? .. from pics you copied from a site.. or the file where the pics are that you took with your camera.  When you do click on that tab (public or pictures) click once.. only to be sure you dont' start double clicking.. and a whole slurry of pics.. start loading up.. lol.  But after each single click.. just open each file up.. til you get to the pics you want to load up... highlight the ones you want to upload.  That last click should start to upload.  To upload a pic onto the Diner.. once the pics are in photobucket ... is another tid bit.. but I'd rather get you this far.  I tell you what, if you haven't gotten this far after reading this mess.. well its just so many ppl have helped me here.. I just want to 'pass it on'.  But if you still have problems.. I will call you .. and personally guide you through all this.  To see if I can help.  Yes, my dime... I'll call you long distance.. USA Only.  So if things still dont' work out.. send me your phone number.. and lets take care of this small problem.  lol.. I only want to help, if  I can help.

OK, OK, ya got me. It's not a real round a bout. But it's the best we can do. Ya see except for one Siamesed building that is approx the size of the building in the upper right hand corner, (north east) that, is downtown Williamsville. Huge I know. The tracks on the left is the UP main that you hear me talk about, and to the lower left (out of view)is the old train station, now the library. Also the North end of the elevator, and a couple of GM&O boxcars that we use as the Williamsville historical museum. I'll have to show pics of them sometime. We seem to be quite proud of those. Yes I must, it could be useful to some modeler now that I think of it.

Barry- The Boulevard is actually off to the right and is technically out of Uptown. Houses line the road on the north and south sides. It is a bit wider and longer. But alas, no park benches. We have a picnic table though, does that count?Big Smile

The old inter urban used to run along the right (east)side of the RR tracks, turn and come out between the buildings you see on the upper right, down through the, whatever you call it grassy thing and down the road to the lower left. There is a picture of the Interurban on the website but I can't get a copy off the page.

DerJohn- The only reason we have that, I think, is a filler because of the width of the road. As you can tell the road narrows as it crosses the tracks. There used to be buildings to the left of the ones you can see and after they took out the Interurban, they added the little boulevard to fill in the gap. I think a little boulevard would look great as a divider for your parking lot. It wouldn't have to be really big, just there to give a break is all you'd need. Go for it!

Rob- Just a minute, let me run downstairs and find the name of the stuff. (puff, puff) It's WS Fine Leaf foliage. That stuff is good for all sorts of foliage from tree leaves to saplings to ground weeds to, well Kudzu I suppose. It's not exactly dirt cheap, I paid $10.30 for it but it does go a long way so it isn't exactly real expensive either.

Joe- Whoa, whoa. Slow down Hoss. If life is going fast at 15, you'll miss all the good things! And I'm not talking about the good things that aren't so good for youWhistling.

Sunsetbeachry- I also had troubles with loading up on photo bucket at first. Figured it was just my system. Under where it says upload pictures there is a smaller set of words that says something to the effect of "use old uploader". I clicked that and had no problems with it. Give that a try.

Garry- We also "host" Thanksgiving at or house. Luckily the house doesn't have to be perfect as the only thing they are concerned about is the food and how much they get to take with them. Of course even though everyone is to bring something they never seem to have the time to do so. They do however have tome to purge their stomachs before coming over and then look for containers to take leftovers home. From OUR CABINETS!!! I try to head to the train room but am told I'm rude. I also tried to show the grandkids and grand nephews the trains but they don't get the "hands off" thing and then I am told, "hey, they're just kids" So the room gets closed up until they learn to respect others property. Since the parents let them rum amok and feel I should sacrifice my stuff for their fun, I don't suppose that will change soon. I love ‘em but that don't mean they have free rein. Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't feel like changing right now.

Prayers for those in need.

Happy B-Day SAWYER!!!!!!!!!!!!

TMarsh
15. Horrible age. Sooooo close to the Drivers License but so far away. Longest year of your life. Don't worry though the rest will go by a LOT faster

Sorry, but I'm going to have to disagree!! As of now, it's just flying by! Hopefully, the next 6.5 months will be just as fast.
6.5 months- till- driving- arrgh- so close- but so- far away!!!

Anyway, sorry I haven't been in in like forever! I've been sooooooo busy with, well, everything!

Hockey started last week, and since we're varsity now (we only have one team, there's NO FREAKING way I would make varsity, lol!), we have practice more, so yeah.
Speaking of hockey, we have our first scrimmage tomorrow. It's at 7:30, and it's over an hour away, so it'll be a late night.

But that doesn't matter, since I get out at 12:04 on Tuesday, and I'm off on Wednesday.

Eric: Look out for a PL42/ML set on the Coast Line beginning tomorrow. It will run on 2302/2309. It is expected to have 2 more ML sets in Bay Head by the end of the year.

I'm not even going to consider catching up. Cause last time I was here, we were on like, page 30 or something!

I'll hang for a little bit, but then I'm out.

Hey ya'll, RBF for me.

Sawyer, Happy B-day!! So ya know, the Packers beat the 49ers 24-30. Nice little birthday present there.

Almost done with my car. Have to remove the brake lines in the rear and put in some from a V8 mustang, then put on brake calipers on the axles. Then I'm gonna take the hood off and the intake and port that. Having the hood off will help with putting in a new power brake booster. Then hook the clutch cable up (the old one was trashed) and it should be good to go. I may have to switch front control arms since the wheels and tired I'm putting on it are a bit wider (17x8s).

Vincent

Wants: 1. high-quality, sound equipped, SD40-2s, C636s, C30-7s, and F-units in BN. As for ones that don't cost an arm and a leg, that's out of the question....

2. An end to the limited-production and other crap that makes models harder to get and more expensive.

Rob: Depending on how  thick and overgrown it is I think that a polyfibre of some sort with foliage clusters would do the trick---I'd take the polyfibre and stretch it up against the side of the bldg--a thinned school glue does it here--then try adding a little of the loose stuff and foliage clusters to effect--

Thnaks for the happy birthdays everyone! Jim, money goes into the layout. No need to save for a car, as we'll be buying my dad a BMW (hopefully) at some point and then I'll get the Honda Civic. My sister is saving up for her own truck (late 80's/early 90's Ford F150), so the Civic will be mine. and my parents will pay for the insurance.

John, yes, I'm in ns cale. for the grass clumps, I used woodland scenics field grass. made a small hole in the scenery, put a drop of white glue in it, then stuck some woodland scenics field grass in it and cut it to length. did tease it up w/ my finger a bit.

Barry, I love the effect of kudzu, even though it can be a nuisance. That scene is far from completed though.

Hello everybody......

It's a "honey-do" weekend. We're hosting Thanksgiving day diner Thursday, and the house must be perfect if you know what I mean. At least, it gave me an excuse to clean up the woodworking shop which was getting untidy. The layout room could use some cleaning up, too. Who cares about all teh other rooms?

Der John ... I watched the video of the bridge collapse. If they rebuild, will it be  a modern type bridge?

Sawyer  .... Happy B'day !!!!!!!!  .... Any cake left at this late hour?

Good evening Diners!  It's been a while since it was my tab, so sup up lads and lasses! Looks like we'd better be getting ready to couple up the switcher again!  Here's a couple of short video's from the UK about their flooding.  Railbridge collapse in flooding UK.

Less interesting and less dramatic, a road bridge; but shows, in passing, a typical UK little roundabout. LOL.  This "suykoiniakuklosophobia"  has me laughing, BTW, as I grew up with the things in England, and so they've never held any terrors. This side of the Pond I notice a very different reaction, as they are relatively rare, and people seem to freeze.  On the "Suicide" Lanes, I find them very useful too, and by-and-large they are used with respect and judgment by the good citizens of those Nova Scotian communities large enough to warrant them.

Keith: Happy to help, glad you found my My 2 cents useful - Gosh Darn, made me BlushBlush

Also glad folks liked the way that trailer worked out. It was fun to do, especially inventing ways to do things. IMHO it photographs better than it looks. Sort of Hollywood, really.Big Smile

Ulrich: it is HO, not N; that much my little point an shoot camera couldn't do!  My layout's N, but there was talk in the Diner about a tar trailer, and it sounded like an interesting project. The protagonists are in HO, so that's the way I went.

ChrisEight Ball :

Maybe Der John Industries could produce that as a kit?????
...not anytime soon and turn a profit. Did you see how long just one took to make? Zzz All this excellent brick work is going to drive me over the edge and do some of my buildings! - Like Jeff's patching forced my hand at that last week. Thanks for sharing techniques - I find I do a lot of mixing on the go. I try to record the mixes, but seldom is it reproducable!Sigh

Sawyer: Happy B-Day, and your scenicing is coming along just great! You're in N right? What do you use for those grass clumps? I didn't know they were available for N.

Todd:

Williamsvilles version of a round a bout.
...I had a slightly narrower version of that "planter" in mind to divide a road from a parking lot in my trading estate! Mind you it's only 1/2 a road in width, so I'm not sure how it will all fit in. Big Smile

Spent some time this afternoon cannibalizing my test track for flex I need to complete the changes in my re-worked freight yard. Still leaves me with a loop and some switch-work for testing. I'm pretty much out of rail joiners, but we are going to Halifax on Thursday, so I should be able to re-stock then. It's the small joiners for the Peco switches in particular that I'm short, both the insulated and regular. I've run out of Atlas metal joiners too (and don't like the sheer bulk of their insulated ones, nor the colour before they are painted, come to that.) I do have a couple of packs of "Trainshow acquisition" Life Like metal joiners. Any thoughts on those from you N Scalers?

We never have had a cell phone. Frankly I don't want to be THAT reachable all the time. The other thing is that where we now live there are two highways - 244 to Truro, and 374 to New Glasgow - that go through significant distances of very low traffic density wilderness. A cell phone for emergencies would make sense. Pity there's no signal available isn't it?WhistlingBanged Head

I'll grab a JR Regular please on my way out. Goodnight all, and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort, prosperity, and peace.Angel

Actually that is an odd sort of thing. It looks like there was an idea of doing a boulevard type of affair down the center and stopped?

Thought I'd pop back in and show you Williamsvilles version of a round a bout. Right in the middle of Uptown. In fact, it fills the entire Uptown.

Hmm. Looks about the same now as it did in 1974.

JEFF: It's a real mish-mash I threw at this. I started out with RR Tie Brown (one pic, the bricks look more brown than anything). Didn't like it, threw on some Rail Brown. Looking closer to the pic. I then used ink/alcohol on it for dark mortar. Not impressed. I whip up a very non-scientific batch of a white "mortar" consisting of some kind of white Badger paint and 70% alcohol. I think some Badger Primer Gray got in there also...not sure. I just kinda dumped/mixed/looked/cursed/dumped/mixed/looked/cursed... Finally made various attempts at application, ended up surrendering to a mostly white wall! Banged Head I grabbed a Dark Tuscan Maroon Badger paint, and dry-brushed it back to what you see.

That's a mish-mash all right. I went through that kind of thing myself until I found something that's almost as easy as falling off a log. Here's what I do. I paint the wall a shade between Mediterranean Sun and Red Baked Clay and let it dry thoroughly. For my mortar color I use FolkArt Country Gray acrylic paint. It can be found in the crafts section of Wal-Mart and cost about $1. I get a little on my finger and spread it onto the wall making sure it gets into the mortar lines. I then immediately wipe it off with a paper towel first going across then up and down. I did the Front Street Building in less than 20 minutes. The longer you leave the gray paint on the lighter it makes the wall, so wipe on, wipe off.

JIM and TODD: Thanks guys! JIM: I think I know what you mean about the wall...something still isn't quite "right" with it. Not quite sure what to do. Might just let it sit for awhile whilst I cogitate. TODD: the window was an accident of sorts. It was originally some kind of Testors/Floquil acrylic "rust" color with a rusty weathering solution added to it (naturally, I'm almost out of both the paint and the weathering solution...*grumble grumble grumble). It was nailed several times while applying the white/gray/Dunce/??/and alcohol mortar mix.

Amazingly, it kinda works!Confused

Chris- Not only do the brick lines look good, the whole wall looks great. Mortar lines, concrete, not to mention the window frame looks great also. I guess I just mentioned it.

Barry- Nope, no more in trouble than any other time.Approve

Made it into the trainroom, turned on the magnify lamp light thing, PHONE RANG, it was Brenda the beloved. Seems someone hit the outside draw on the overhead with a combine. She wanted me to take pictures of the damage. Turned light off, got camera left. Haven't been back downstairs again. (sigh) And I had such high hopes.

Good evenin',

ROB and JEFF: Thanks guys!

JEFF: It's a real mish-mash I threw at this. I started out with RR Tie Brown (one pic, the bricks look more brown than anything). Didn't like it, threw on some Rail Brown. Looking closer to the pic. I think I can live with it. Actually, I'm a little scared to touch it again!!

JEFF: I apologize profusely...but I have completely forgotten your magical remedy for mortar. I've got a hunch though, it's a helluva lot simpler than what I went through!! Again, you're the "Rembrandt," I'm the "Earl Scheib."

The foundation is Poly Scale "concrete" with a coat of Testor's/Floquil acrylic "aged concrete" over it. Then, I washed over it with ink/alcohol which was randomly dabbed at with a wadded up paper towel. The ink is an experiment in itself: it's inkjet printer ink.

Another bucket of coffee please 'n thankya at the RC...

Good Afternoon, Flo - I'll have a nice RBF and a bowl of chili (unless Ulrich has dropped off some of Petra's strudel, and if that's the case, I'll have some of that for dessert, too), please 'n' thankyouma'am!

Keith - check your email (and nope, it didn't get through).

CN Charlie, check yours as well, please. Yeah, besides the postage, we don't want dear ol' HLS or the NSA adding me to the list of 'suspected' persons...Whistling Yep, the 'suicide' lane is not for the timid or for those with coronary conditions... I was thinking this morning that I want to take a photo of our roundabout for the education of those who haven't experienced the delights of a roundabout. Did I mention that one of the four streets leading to ours is coming down at a rather steep angle? I avoid that when the roads get a bit nasty, myself. There are other ways to get there from here, as they say.

Lee, that was a very enjoyable trip, I'd say, even if it was a bit long. Thumbs Up

Todd, just as you said, I found that the Polly S Engine Black covered up the NP lettering and logo fine (Sue gasps about now...) (Sorry, Sue!) So I may take a look at my SP or Rio Grande striping decals and see which one (if either) seems to fit where I want it on my SW1200. Todd, on those other bottles of paint, don't you have some sheds or stuff around the layout you could paint that needs a blue or red of no particular color? Wink And Vinnie said he's gonna find you some 'chill pills' the next time someone mentions, you know, those things you hold to your ears....

For the record (Vinnie's gone outside now, right?..), [mini-rant] MY take on cell phones is that there are some places I don't need (or want) to be 'reachable' by anyone and his brother or sister.... I may have to use one for w**k, but that's about all the reasons I can think of to have one.[/mini-rant off]

Sir Madog
After all, we all want to get more goodies from her, don´t we?

Ulrich, yes, indeed! Tongue Good to hear you got some more help with the w**k on the flat (and that the kitchen is looking almost up to Petra's standards (well, for her starting standards - I'm sure she will have that kitchen whipped into shape very quickly!). It sounds like you are feeling better since you have been helping get the flat ready, and that is good!

Jeff - will that refrigerator car be lettered for the L&A, or what's on the program for it? Fifty footer, right? I noticed some mentioned your sister's Great Dane - guess he is the canine equivalent of Calvin's "Psycho-Maniac Jungle Cat" (Hobbes), who greets him when he walks in the door from school (in Calvin's case)?

Sawyer, your (coming, 17th) birthday almost sounds like a locker combination (do they still have lockers, or combination locks on them, anymore?).Confused And Happy B-Day - one year to go! (I see Jeff beat me to it - well, him and a few dozen others...) Are you saving up for the insurance, car, license, etc. yet? Layout looks like you're making progress on scenery (and locos)...

Chris, about your wall, I don't know, it looks... too neat? ConfusedWink Do you have some of those smaller Sharpie mini-pens? They are supposed to be good for getting individual brick color variations easily. But I like the overall color, and the mortar is even and nice-looking.

Well, I need to get going. Supposed to call Carol in (not sure - Belleville, Troy, or somewhere abouts those parts) and talk, get to know how her voice sounds, etc. Blush

May have some photos of the loco repaint to put up tomorrow (time and everything else permitting).

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

recently, since I commented on his; I really should post mine for comments, etc.

Nice job! What technique did you use for the mortar lines? Anything like mine?

***Chris, I usually do order "UP"... coffee in a UNION PACIFIC mug that is. Just fill er up. please & thanks. BTW, the wall looks fine to me.

***Sawyer, what did you use for the weeds/grasses in those photos?

Heard a HUGE tree crash while I was in the barn. Tried half-heartedly tracking it down to no avail. Perhaps it fell across the creek. Sure sent two of our horses galloping across the back pasture. Can't wait to see their responses when the loggers get here.

SawyerHappy B-Day 15 years today? Lucky you!

I am dead tired, just back from working in the flat. We did not achieve what we wanted to do today, so I am a little frustrated.

It is 10 p.m. now . I am heading for Zzz

Robby, the yard where scenery is is figured out.

Todd, sodas get me wired to where I can't go to sleep, but Monsters don't, lol. Thanks for the compliments on the scenes and geeps. Just wish the flat had cut the shine, but oh well.

Sawyer.....The pictures look good, but I hope you don't run into the problem I had.   I ballasted some parts, grass, etc..........and when I wanted to add some track to a part that I thought was done, well it was a BIG mess.   Ballast went everywhere (where I had to remove track), the waste of the grass/weeds that had to be removed (for the new part of the track to be laid down at).  If you don't plan on adding anymore track to the part thats pictured, then no need to worry.   BUT........Then I thought I wasn't going to add anymore near my cement plant, and I did (thats where the mess came in to play).   Now I just leave the area unballasted, and just plain looking.  So If I want to add, no mess.   I guess Once I'm happy with what the area looks like, I will ballast/detail then.

Good afternoon....

SAWYER: Nice work there! I'm liking the geeps and the scenery. One question though... looks like a multi-story building with...kudzu up the sides/over the roof??? Wow...I'd hear that stuff was nasty. I won't ask what happened with your sister and the energy drink. A good friend of mine tried one of those a month or so ago. He was beyond "wired." This is a guy who slams down coffee like nothing, but the energy drink had him shaking, heart rate sky-high, etc., etc., etc. Wicked stuff, I won't go near it.

Der JOHN: Holy bat snot Batman! I would be extremely remiss if I once again, forgot to mention how incredible that tar trailer turned out! Maybe Der John Industries could produce that as a kit?????

OK guys... here's a shot of the wall I'm doing battle with/against. KEITH was brave enough to post his bricks recently, since I commented on his; I really should post mine for comments, etc.

Here's a couple pics of the real, now long-gone ex-RI structure.

I'll hang out here at the RC for awhile, see what you guys have to say today.

***EDIT*** For some reason, the number "15" is going through my head...Hmmmmmm. Some significance there. When the number 15 has been reached, 15 being the number... I don't know. Anyhoo, looks like I'm picking up the tab for awhile. Order UP!

Thanks everyone! Just to clarify; I'm 15 today, just mentioned how cool the date of my 17th birthday will be. We bought a 4-pack of Monster Khaos energy drinks, and I gave my sister one. big mistake! Here's some pics, but no video, as there really isn't much to discuss/explain. Been making some headway on scenery, although the pace has slowed. Also finished up both engines; someday in the future I will get undec. shells for all three ANRR locos (both geeps and the U23B) and paint it in the red and white scheme, but this will work for now.

Good morning, bucket of coffee please 'n thank-you...

SAWYER: Happy Birthday to ya! Happy B-Day

Personally, I'll be rooting for amost anybody OTHER than Jimmie Johnson today... I'm hoping the Killer Bees get the number 17 DeWalt Ford Fusion figured out for once, and Kenseth takes the checkers. Of course, everybody will be over crowning Jimmie (again), and Team 17 will be all but forgotten in Victory Lane...hey, it's happened before.

ULRICH: Apparently, I stand corrected! I would swear I read/heard somewhere that due to a majority of older/narrower streets, most european vehicles were necessarily smaller. I know the MB Sprinter van has made its way over here in both delivery and ambulance configurations Thumbs Down. And yah, they're "mobile emergency rooms" over here tooSmile,Wink, & Grin, even if we do call them: "the rig," "the truck," "the bus," "the big white taxi..."Whistling I almost started bragging how "we" (the good 'ol U. S. of A) pioneered pre-hospital emergency care...then remembered my EMS history and how it was a Dr. named Frank Pantridge, in Belfast, Northern Ireland; who took the first mobile coronary care unit out onto the streets. His experiment worked so well, the City of Miami Fire Dept., Los Angeles County Fire Department, Seattle Fire Department, and Columbus, Ohio Fire Dept. started similar programs in the late 1960s. The L.A. County program (started in '69) gained the most fame and notoriety...it was the basis for the TV show "EMERGENCY!." My personal all-time favorite.

That rig you posted doesn't look much different from a Super Duty chassis modular unit over here. I definitely see wheels going up over curbs in roundy-round traffic things.

If I read the words on it right, that's a Berlin Fire Dept. ambulance???

RAY: Ain't it amazing just how quickly a group can assemble when emergency services show up somewhere? It's practicaly standard to put the truck back in the station and have someone standing there (or driving up) asking "who was it?" Of course, with patient confidentiality (even before HIPPA), we couldn't/wouldn't say. I wonder how many in your mob scene were trying to get "YouTV" footage for the local media. With the proliferation of cellphones with cameras, it seems like everybody thinks they are Lois Freakin' Lane or Clark Camera Guy Kent...all hellbent on getting the story, even if they haven't got a clue what they're looking at! AngryDisapproveSoapBoxBanged Head

OK, THAT's my rant for the day...

TODD: I have long believed telephones are proof of the existence of Satan. I LOVE your responses...sounds like something I'd snark-out at somebody.

Gonna do some RR stuff today: With a profound shortage of discretionary money, two grain hoppers sit in fresh, weathered IC orange...but will have to wait for decals to be obtained. A third sits half-stripped, I may soak the other side today. It too will end up waiting on decals. The GP-40 sits in primer...don't have enough thinner on-hand to thin the paint, and no where near enough for clean-up on the awesome airbrush. One good thing about the water-based paints...no shortage of thinner/clean-up for them. Sooooooooo, I dug out the two Atlas roundhouse kits Loving Wife gave me a year, or two ago for Christmas. I wasn't going to build 'em until the benchwork was up...but, oh well. I'm combining them and modifying them to be a selectively compressed/condensed sort-of replica of the ex-Rock Island roundhouse which used to sit in Cedar Rapids. I've already determined I'm one kit short (which will give me 9 stalls to the prototype's 12), and "need" about $20 in misc. parts for it. So....it too will get a good start, then sit awaiting further procurements.

I battled one wall section last night trying to get it mortared. If JEFF is "the spray can Rembrandt," then I must be "the spray can Earl Scheib." In other words, nowhere near as talented. I'm battling through it however, and might be gaining the upper hand in the struggle. At least now, I can look at the wall piece without feeling the need to go use the environmentally friendly/ecologically kind/socially responsible/saving the planet one patheticly weak flush at a time toilet...

Have a good afternoon...
