I like your tank car. It is very convincing snow. Although I have never seen snow in real life.

It looks a bit different in the photo but it's what's left of a white-wash that almost completely gone. I got the idea from an old KCS baggage car in Leesville that was painted white when it was in MoW service. Over the years most of the white paint has washed away with some remaining is spots and blotches on what's left of the now somewhat rusty Southern Belle paint scheme.

Is it to early for Eggnog? Dinner

***Jeffrey, nice work on the tank car!

Finished ballasting about 1/3rd of all the track on the wife's layout. Good thing it's a simple track plan and is in HO scale. Can't imagine having to ballast my N scale track, if I ever get that far on my own layout. Also started work on a small NuComp trailer for the wife's trailer park. Simple kit, seems most of the work will be in painting it.

Evening all. Chloe, I'll take a RBF, thanks.

Gym started today. But it wasn't as good as I thought it would be. And I absolutely hate the kids in our class. Half of them are p*theads, and are really annoying. So I just stick with my friends and pretend no one else is there.

A happy Veterans Day to all, and thanks to all who have servedQ

I'm tired, so I'll catch up tomorrow. Going to make a quick railfanning stop on the way home from school, but nothing other than that.

Busy day for me today. First I went to Lowe's to get a new Kobalt precision screwdriver set with 1/2 inch thick plastic handles since I can no longer hold the the tiny metal handle ones I have. I also picked up some fine grit sand paper for use on future projects and a tube of LocTite Super Glue Gel. I inventoried every piece of rolling stock on the layout, right down to the two MoW passenger cars beside the Knutsville foundry and machine shop then disassembling, weathering and reassembling three tank cars and two covered hoppers then repairing three damaged cars. One had a screw hole strip out so one of the trucks wouldn't stay on, easy fix. An Atlas tank car with a broken frame. I had to find an old tube of Super Glue to glue part of the frame back onto the body. The LocTite Super Glue I got is crap. After 45 minutes it was still wet! The third car had a coupler pocket cover busted off. Super Glue to the rescue once again.

JEFF, How come you didn't keep the car numbers all in the 11,000 series ?

Don't you think that would have looked better.  Just my feel for it.

Evening Chloe - hey, it's me, Jim! Don't you remember me? I was only gone a couple or three days, gee... Could I have an oatmeal raisin cookie and a Santa Fe mug of decaf, please? Thanks.

DerJohn, thanks for the feedback on the feeders. Sounds like you were having your own 'fun' while I was gone... Banged Head And no problems with your modifying the plan I sent you, since 1) It's YOUR layout, right? Smile,Wink, & Grin, and 2) the key thing is does it do the job for you that you want? So long as it does, I'm fine with it.

Robby, sounds like a good deal on Jessica's classroom (When will the webcam be operational, and what's the URL?...)Laugh And way to go on your third award at w**k! And like your job on the boxcar, too. Thumbs Up

Garry - thanks for posting the info on the Shorpy photo site! Bow I'll have to do some info-mining in there... Hope you get your SD9 fixed without much trouble.

Sue, my belated congratulations to Larry on passing his written test, and I'm with the others, any plans for how he'll use the license once he gets it?

Keith, I liked your right-hand brick section in the photo - but that's my preference... On the experimenting, you for sure won't have to worry about your brick buildings (or sections) all looking the same, right? WinkThumbs Up

Joe, how's your grandfather doing since you posted? That sounded like one tough time for the whole family. Like your paint scheme design. Thumbs Up

Ray, has your doctor got something planned out for your toe yet? Sure hope he does soon! Yeah!!

CN Charlie - sounds like a YUMMY [#birthday] out. Dinner Good idea, having the celebration when you can hibernate afterwards... Don't snakes do that after a big meal? Whistling

And a belated [#birthday] to you also, Paul and Johnboy! (Mine's at the end of this month)

Jeff, I like your weathering on the tanker cars. We're a bit like your weather here - weather guy today was saying that though October was pretty wet, we've gone 12 days without any rain in Cape G.-land.

It's been a little cooler today, but still warm for November in this area of the country.  Wonder what the rest of the fall and winter will be like? Oops

I've been gone 'cause have been emailing a couple of ladies I met through eHarmony. We'll see what (if anything) develops of THAT... One's in Belleville, IL (about 100 miles away), and the others's about an hour north of me. The one further away appears better-looking, but then again, that's only the 'wrapping paper'...Confused

Figure I'll post my roster (best as I can recall it) - smaller than several of you, a little larger than a few of ya:

Manuf.       Road       Type      Powered/Dummy    Additional notes
Athearn     SP           GP9/7    Powered
Athearn     Undec.    RDC-1    (Both)                     (4-6?)
Athearn     Undec.    RDC-3    (Both)                     (2-3)
Athearn     Undec.    SW-7      Powered
Bach.Spect.Undec   0-6-0T     Powered                 Saddle tanker
Bach.Spect. PRR     GE44ton Powered
IHC/Mehano Undec. 2-6-0      Powered                 Mogul
MDC         Undec.     0-6-0T    Dummy                   Saddle tanker
MDC         Undec      2-truck Shay  Powered         NSWL parts (#3)
Proto 2000  ATSF     GP7       Powered
Proto 2000  Undec.   GP7      Powered
Proto 2000  C&O       SW900/1200 Powered
Proto 2000  NP         SW900/1200 Powered
Walthers      D&RGW GP9m

Most of the RR's other than ATSF or D&RGW will wind up being stripped and repainted for the CAW, as well as the undecorated ones. Not sure how many RDC's I'll finish up with, I think the total numbers might be higher that I put, but I'll be kitbashing (just because) some of them into more prototypical length (and maybe making an RDC-2 and a RDC-4...).

Well, about time to head on home and catch some Zzz's for the evening. Keeping all those needing healing for various body parts, comfort, drying out and our other assorted ailments, in AngelAngel.

Blessings and a good night,

Nice pics folks! Keep 'em coming. All I can do now is dream through your hands.

I don't really have a favorite loco, I likes a lot of them. I can't recall what a Berkshire or an articuled looks like, does anyone remember? Hmmmm?Whistling

Mark- Ray gave great, no perfect, advice. Before buying an amp, listen to several. That will be what you want to do, trust me. I myself am partial to Fender tube amps. I like the Deluxe Reverb myself but that's me. I have a Cyber Deluxe. Bought it unheard and from advice and revues. I wish I'd held out for the Deluxe. The amp is an important decision. Don't go with what your buddies or what you've read. Listen and try them. You'll be glad you did.

I feel kinda weak when I listen to the rosters you guys have. But hey, we all started somewhere so I hope the good Lord gives me time to get caught up! Keep talking , like CNCharlie said, I like to listen.

Speaking of CNCharlie- Great glad to hear you checked out OK too.

Jeff- Glad to hear you're healing up fine. IV stuff sounds a bit creepy but if it works, great.

Garry- Isn't that the way it goes? Kinda like "looked away for just a second...." Oh well, at least it can be repaired. Too bad it requires a whole chassis though. I'm confident you can make it look as good as it was judging from what I've seen of your work.

Jpowell and Lee- Too often we forget those who serve now and don't consider them when we say thanks to those who served. You guys are sacrificing now, so a great big THANKS goes out to you guys. (Lee, I know you're retired but hey, it's only been a couple of months so I threw you in there too. Next year you can take your seat amongst the ORF's)

Eggnog!? Already???????

Well I got caught up to the combine ( grain harvester, not railroad related. Sorry) Since they will go back and finish a field they started that won't be tilled before returning to the next one, I won't be needed until maybe Sunday or Tuesday. Soooo, I hope to get to the train room for a bit hopefully in the next couple of days. (fingers crossed)

Now, I want to know how Ulrich and PC's family are doing??????? (Philip you've been quiet. I hope you're just busy)

Prayers for those in need of healing, and of thanks for those who received good reports.

Good evening to all, I see a few new faces in the Diner, welcome ! I also see that John and I have a few more trainmen nearing their 7th decade........wow does time ever sneak up on a man.

Not much actual modeling going on however there is 75 feet of HO track with running trains on the wife's Christmas village layout, yes it is up early, but it takes a while to set this up each year, so I start in late October. I have made trips to my LHS, and soon I shall be back to the layout as all the outside yard and house exterior maintenance for Winter is completed.

Now that Norfolk Southern has moved into New England on the former B&M main line through the Hoosac tunnel, I will add some of their rolling stock to the layout. I wonder how Scotty is doing working on the NS?

Time to hit the sack, prayers for all those in need,

Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !!  Good morning. It's 49 and clear. The high will be near 70 and it will be sunny.

There's not really much on the agenda today so I guess I'll just lay back and get some rest. I have some movies to watch and some others are scheduled to be recorded. I also have to clear off the front part of the layout as it's badly cluttered due to all the projects I've been working on lately.

Good morning.  Just a sweet tea to go.

Not much planned today.  I will just take the day easy.  I do need to fin d a project to keep me busy thou.

Jim........I would love to have a cam to her job, but its a coal line.  You would get a mix of NS and some Conrail.  Then a mix of coal cars.  Just not  to much to see.  I rather see them beat up, and rusty!!

Sawyer....Not a bad video.  I was looking at how close your one line was to the side of the table.  Might have to put a net up.

 Barry......Once again, good shots.

Jeff.....The tank car isn't to bad.  Maybe some more spill/grime might break it up some.  Thumbs Up

 Hi everyone!

Early afternoon on a wet day, turning dark already. Had to switch on the lights to be able to hit the right key on my laptop.

Chloe, mind serving me a hot  n´ sweet chocolate in my LKAB mug? I´ll be at the window, just watching who will drop by.

I am just back from hospital for an hour or so. The docs gave me quite a rough time to find out what is wrong with me. More tests will come, but I don´t have to stay there. From what we know now, things are not looking too good for at the moment.

Folks, please be easy on me not  trying to catch up what happened here the last days. There are just too many things for me to digest properly and maybe even a dream too many that I will have to bury. I won´t let you into the details, but the time ahead of me is going to be pretty tough for Petra and me. Seems as if there is no bottom to worse... Sigh

What I now need is FRIENDS and I know where they are!

Good morning ....

Hey Jeff ..... What is the cargo in those neat looking Gramps tank cars? ....... Bulk Geritol? ..... Given all the grampas in the diner, there may be a significant demand for the stuff ........ For examples, look at those Canadian birthdays last week ... CN Charlie and Last Mtn & SF...... I should talk. I'm a WWII baby myself....

Speaking of such ....... DICK ! ...... It is great to see you back in the diner. ..

Ulrich .... I'm sorry to learn of your continued health problems. .. I know all too well about heart problems. .. The test I can't stand is the drug induced stress test. It feels like death, itself. have you had that test, Ulrich?

Barry ... I like the photos.  Snow plow, eh.  Who wants snow?

Regarding my damaged SD9. When I repair the bent steps, I will warm the plastic by dipping it into hot water. It should bend back to correct position without breaking if I do that. .... Vincent, I looked on ebay first for a chassis, and saw none. I bought the last of five that Walthers Parts Department had. ... I have four P2K locos (3 SD7's and 1 SD9) with the same drive, and I like how the run.

I've been having fun experimenting with the new DCC.

 Sipping Tea
Good morning, Chloe.  I have time for coffee and a cinnamon roll this morning.

Thanks for all the congrats to Larry.  Now all he needs is some fair weather to get those solo hours behind him, then I can go.

Three days and boy was I behind in reading posts.  I enjoyed the photos.

Later,  Sue

PS.  Larry spent most of yesterday laying track on the trestle.  A little tweeking and attaching the brace pieces, and back to my brush placement.

Anything is possible if you do not know what you are talking about.

 Mornin' everyone!

Zoe, a short stack of buckwheat pancakes and lots of NYS Maple Syrup to go on them for me this morning.  Ah no bacon....  or sausage either..... I have to watch the meat these days....  Oh almost forgot...  What?  yep you read my mind.  In a R&GV mug if you please.

Ulrich!  Nice to see you stopped by.  Very sorry to hear that you are not well, my friend.  You will stay in my prayers as will Petra as well.

I have been surprised to see how many of us have birthdays in November.  Mine will be on Thanksgiving...  Nov. 26th.  I still have a few years left before that 70 thing hits.  I'll be 63.

Jeffrey!  No I don't need my coffee spiked with Geritol!

This morning is the first time in a couple of weeks that my big toe didn't hurt.  It is getting a bit tender after being up and around for a while, but not like it was.....  And............  The good news for me continues..........

Fired up the Mac this morning and read my emails.  A couple telling me for for a limited time only I can buy a bunch of "stuff" that I don't need nor want, nor have any use for at all for 10% off.....  HURRY!  but then at the bottom of the pile..... was one from the NMRA NFR AP Chairman...........  I nervously pulled the curser over the email and clicked with my eyes closed.........  Then I slowly opened my eyes and read.   He has approved my application for the Master Builder Scenery AP Certificate!  He also asked for permission to use some of my photos in a clinic.  Big SmileBig SmileBig Smile

So drinks are on me!  (No Zoe put the flask away!  This is just for coffee, RBF, Dr. Pepper, and stuff like that....)  Hope you all have a good day.

  "Coffee please"

Good morning to you all.. same morning different day.  8:30 am or so.. cloudy and haze.. till 11 am or so.

Yo Jim~!  Coloring buildings was not that easy for me.  As I said earlier,  I could have read some ones' post concerning weathering and motaring buildings.  But if you knew me, I do like to experiment.  So~ .. I did look  up one post concerning buildings and painting.. by Doc in CT.  Seems he uses just plain Ol' ''Craft paint'.  In which I have tons.. lol.  So lets move on then.. because the motar painting of this building shall be quite easy.  But here's this mornings question... Do you think this is 'Over-kill'?100_0432.jpg picture by Blazzin55

The mottle.. the multi coloring of bricks..  Over-kill?  I'm about to use my craft paints and give it a go.. right after my coffee.. hmm good.~

Good afternoon, Chloe? bacon cheeseburger 'n fries today....along with coffee in the CNW Iowa Division mug, please 'n thank-you.

ULRICH: Sorry to hear of the latest complications, we're still pulling for ya.

RAY: Congrats on making the grade, don't know why you were nervous about opening that e-mail...looked like a slam-dunk to this amateur model railroader...might make "master" in the next life.

KEITH: Yeah...I think you've got a little, as you said, "overkill" on the mottled brick colors effect. I think I'd try some washes of a "brick color," to knock down some of the extremes and blend them together a bit more. My opinion only, recently valued at somewhere less than a half-a-cent.

JEFF: Bulk Geritol loads 'eh? Laugh What-all does your database have for car information? I use Excel with catagories of: Road, Number, Car Type, AAR Class, Assignment (grain, beer, cereal), HAZMAT (yes/no), Restrictions (such as friction bearings), Handling Instructions (when empty, return to...), Customers (ADM, Penford, Jerabek Distributing, etc.), Additional Information (misc. notes), Waybill Routing, and Train Handled By. Maybe THAT's "overkill." I'm hoping to eventually turn all this mish-mash of information into car cards, waybills, and...*gasp* SWITCHLISTS like the real RR used.

I used to have a stack of switchlists from the CNW North Yard, "harvested" during the late 80s/early 90s...but young Mr. Rerun found the stack one day when he was a very bored little puppy...I came home to a shredded disaster area. Disapprove

Well, time to get to w**k, I suppose. I need to hammer-out captions and a brief write-up from last night's Veterans Dinner in North Liberty. Always a wonderful experience when in a room full of patriots Thumbs Up I had the honor of meeting and visiting with a gentleman who survived the Battle of the Bulge, as well as more recent vets. Tonight, local legislators will meet with the younger generation for "Pizza with the Politicians." Tomorrow: Go see THAT for the weekly "facetime."

It has entries for several little items, such as Scale (33 different scales), Era (Steam, Transition, Vintage, Modern), Category (Locomotive, Traction, Trolley, RDC, Freight, Intermodal, Passenger, Caboose, MoW, Other), Make (What company made it), Catalog (number of item in catalog), mODEL (Boxcar, Gondola, etc), Type (40 ft, 50 ft, etc), Road Name, Number, Color, Construction (Metal, Plastic, etc), DCC info, Weight, Length, Height, Load, Assembly (RTR, Kit, etc), Coupler type, Truck type, Wheel type, Sound, Light, Purchase Date, Dealer, Cost, Condition, Release Date, Value, Asking price (if for sale), Owner.

Robby P.

Sawyer....Not a bad video.  I was looking at how close your one line was to the side of the table.  Might have to put a net up.

Thanks. I have a pelxiglass buffer planned for the three sides that aren't next to the wall; a backdrop for the end next to the wall.
