SAWYER: congrats on surviving your first week as a freshman. Around here, college level courses taken in high school count for both: HS credit, AND college. The community college I worked for even had what they called "High School Academys" in programs such as healthcare (Nurse Aide or EMT), automotive technology, and one for engineering. There may have been others, these are just the one's I knew of. Outside of that, other college classes were availible. Good way to get a head-start in the higher/post-HS edumacation. How'd that Krylon stuff work-out for ya? I'm looking for a good alternative to Dullcote.

thanks man.

Like I said, it's working good. I'm kinda tired though, which explains just why I messed up the GP35. Oh well, it works good.

I'm in a rut with my model railroading, lol. Looking forward to getting some track in the mail this week and also for fall soccer. That should get me back up to my usual self. What sucks is I had one of the best week of my life last week. Oh well.

Good evening everybody,

Wow, another location for the Diner again already. I think I'm caught-up on everything (again), wonder how long THAT will last???

Let's see, a tornado, hurricane, car wreck, car stuck on a bridge, more benchwork going up, Santa's got a little hottie helping sell trees, lazy nephew needing a boot to the butt, young gentlemen going back to school, someone's gonna go see AC/DC (sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet, I worked a concert of theirs back in the early 90s, Angus ROCKS!), an overheating locomotive, and much, much, much more.

Good grief.

TODD: a little late, but glad you managed to duck the "finger of God," be careful helping with the clean-up.

ROBBY P: more awesome stuff there Sir. How's the arm doing?

LEE: Geesh! Between you, Robby P, the King of Toddland, and everybody else slamming out benchwork; you guys are all gonna give me a complex!!!

ULRICH: GLAD to see you're back in here regularly...the place wasn't the same without ya. Keep the struedel coming, keep your chin up. Better days HAVE to be on their way.

SAWYER: congrats on surviving your first week as a freshman. Around here, college level courses taken in high school count for both: HS credit, AND college. JEFF: your new backdrops look GREAT! I feel your pain on the "goof-up," I've had too many to keep track of, and that's just this year alone! Heck, I discovered as I was finishing up the weathering on a boxcar; that I had installed a ladder backwards. Dunce Had a heckuva time prying it back off, trashed it out in the process. Fortunately, I had a ready replacement thanks to grabbing a bunch of Front Range ladder sets off of the Bay not long ago.

Been busy at w**k lately, which is good for the paycheck. Had some challenging articles to write...will find out tomorrow if THAT editor likes 'em, or had to play Editor and fix 'em.

Have a good evening, and stay safe everybody...

Good Evening---

We just started to harvest our first batch of Sweet Corn---and yes, Ray, they came out wonderfully. The largest ear came out about 14" long and was just YUMMY!!Smile,Wink, & Grin We had a BBQ with some marinated ribs, corn on the cob, and some various veggies from the gardenDinner

Apparently Hurricane Bill is doing a number on the maritimes---hope John et al, are doing OK.

'Spring' was trying to get at the corn all morning--everytime he saw anyone going to the fridge he would run there and try to get at the corn----he even tried to lay claim to them! LOL!Laugh

 Hopper looks good Robby.

Personally, I would have kept the engine though, because I'd be running it when the layout is ready to roll. but your choice.

That Krylon Clear Coat works great, almost finished with a hopper, but tired of weathering now, gonna get some more work done on it next weekend.

This is a quick stop.  Sweet tea to go!!

Just sold the "Wheeling & Lake Erie" engine.  I had no use for it since the layout is under construction.  Also here's a couple of shots of the new car.

Its just been a busy weekend.  I will talk to y'all later.

***Lee, you had me worried there for a minute. Cool, the wife's hospital will soon have lighting, at which point I can glue the last walls & roof in place and be done with it.Cool I also picked up some green 12v LEDs for my Soylent Plant.Alien Nice heavy duty construction on your tables there. Here are some progress pictures:

The new bench work for the port authority. The gap on the right will be the ship mooring. The bench work on the far left is for the Coal mine.

Here are some rough pictures of the Christmas tree lot.  This is on the property you saw the Farmer’s market.  I need to dress up the curb and find some tree shoppers.  I have a car with a tree tied to the roof to park in front. The last picture is the farmer’s market, as you can see this lot lifts out to change with the seasons.  I’m still working on the Spring-Summer lot.

 LUNCH!!!!!!

I've been weathering up a CSX ex. B&O hopper all weekend, and its finally done.  I will post some pictures later.

Barry....I like the shots you have been posting.

PC....My wife was in a pile-up before we moved to PA.  I understand about the pain meds, it kinda seems like they make them to strong now.  Rest is the best thing.

I will pop back in later.

Last night was rough.  The pain meds just weren't cutting it as they upset her stomach, even with food in her.  She's resting now though, so thats good.

Looks like I'll be driving the cage (our van) most of the week for a while so she can get to school......oh well.

Barry, is that Windsor or Sarnia area in your pictures?

That is the Goderich ON area--about an hour and a bit NW of London. If you go from Sarnia you would just go up the L. Huron shore and you'd eventually run into it. This is not the best area for travel in the winter as it is the snowbelt up here---Highway 21 between Goderich and the village of Amberley gets closed a lot between December-March because of snowsqualls right off the lake. Those grain elevators do not get as much use as they did in the past but they still get used---BTW--Goderich is the western terminus for the Goderich and Exeter RR.

Hoppers can be seen --somewhat at the bottom

Sawyer, experiment with that Krylon clear coat!  You can’t spray it on like its paint; you have to apply several very light coats or you get build up in the corners, or it will start to sag.

Thanks Lee! I have some cars i don't run anymore (read old Bachmanns) that I can experiment on.

Good morning all,

I’ll return with pictures of yesterday’s project.

Jeff, that sounds painful, I wish you luck with your foot.  Now this isn’t the sore that’s been bothering you for the past year or so is it?

David, it’s nice to see you in the diner again.

Paul, I have some “good” news for you; the Chicago and Cleveland steel mills are firing back up.  Taconite has been moving from Superior down to Erie 26,000 tons at a time.  The old PRR Taconite dock is almost full.

Dick, I hope bill passes you right by and doesn’t make land fall.  Sounds like your ready for some rain and cooler weather after he passes.

Sawyer, experiment with that Krylon clear coat!  You can’t spray it on like its paint; you have to apply several very light coats or you get build up in the corners, or it will start to sag.

Barry, is that Windsor or Sarnia area in your pictures?

Rob, are you using resistors and track power for those LED?

Morgan, when I was in High School (graduated in 1985), the first 2 days of small game season, first 4 days of deer season, and the first day of planting season were excused absences.

Ray, I enjoyed the videos of 211, but it threw me off a little; 211, looked, sounded, and smelled like a RS3, I had to look up RS3 with the twin funnel stacks and learned she was a RS3M.  I see she was a former PENNCENTRAL locomotive back in the 70’s.

Mark, congratulations on the AC/DC concert seats.

Ulrich, I went through a similar period between 2003 and 2006, believe me it’s not fun, but something will come around for you like it did me.  Once I pay off my creditors I can put it all behind me. Keep your chin up and stay focused on the future.

PC, I’m sorry to hear about the accident, thoughts and prayers for your family, I’m glad your daughter was able to walk away from that one.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery to all involved.

John, the hot tar trailer looks great!

 Good morning.

It's 70 and clear. The high today will be around 90 and it'll be partly cloudy.

We got the new belt for the mower late yesterday. Now we'll see if my nephew can be trusted to put it on. I'd like to get my sister's yard finished before Tuesday. After all, there's still my parent's yard to do. On the layout front, I'm still working on some foreground scenes (paper cutouts) to be placed against the background so it looks as if there's going on across the tracks. One scene I'm working on on this side of the tracks involves road work. A disused RR crossing in Sundown has been closed and the road going to it is be removed. A road crew is starting on it with picks, shovels and a jack hammer. Four prisoners have been detailed to help and a state police cruiser is nearby. After the road is taken up the area will be reworked to serve as a freight loading/unloading area on the adjacent spur.

Today's Weather for:
Sundown, LA  71446-6114      8/23/2009

Wind Chill:  69°F

Mind if I pop in? Well yeah it's a bit late, but I've got cake, PIE, and ice cream from today yesterday, I see, because it's now 12:13... Well anyways, yesterday was my 15th birthday. Nothing train related at all, just money, clothes, oh yeah... AND A BALCONY SEAT FOR THE AUGUST 31ST AC/DC CONCERT AT THE TACOMA DOME! AND YES, I NEED TO SHOUT ABOUT THAT!

Can't wait to see that, should be great. I think with the money I might wander down to guitar center, maybe over labor day for some good sales, and take comparison between an Eppy SG310 or SG400, and maybe take a gander at the Paiste 2002 24" ride. Should be fun.

Anyways, I guess I'll be heading out.

Mark.

 Mornin´ Everyone,

did not sleep well, too many bad thoughts in my head keep me from relaxing. Woke up and found my pillow to be all wet from crying silently - my wife called the Doc in. He says, it´s my nerves. He has given me this little pink pills to make a gray day bright, but I won´t take them - period! I don´t believe in chemical sunshine.

Chloe, just a coffee in my ARR mug, please.

PC - my prayers for your daughter!

John - that idea about Petra´s Strudel Place is haunting me for quite some time now. I know it would be successful! There will be a big market for strudel in USA and Canada. Many times I have been trying to figure out how to just lock up everything here and move to Canada, i.e. Nova Scotia, because that´s my favorite place in the world! But unfortunately, Canadian immigration laws and the lack of necessary funds preclude this - Sigh. So it will remain a life on the dole - a thought unbearable to me.

this one’s side loading, will that matter?

Depends, does it matter to you? Laugh I'll be interested to see how this flea speck of a model turns out. Looks fantastic so far. I'm already picturing the tar stains and spills all down the sides. I sure hope Bill calms down to just a quick moving annoyance. Then you can ride out the storm at the modeling bench and forget about the chainsaw.

I woke up this morning to my daughter calling on the phone.  I picked it up from a dead sleep and she's crying her eyes out saying that she wrecked tthe car.  She said she's only a little hurt but the people in the other two cars are on their way to the hospital.  They walked to the ambilance though, so thats good.  She said one of the other cars ran a red light.  The car was totaled.  I told her I'd be there in a few minutes and the wife and I were out the door.  20 minutes later the cop is telling me that some people say that my daughter ran a red, others are saying that one of the other drivers ran the red, but the third driver was just sitting waiting to turn left and just got nailed by the car my daughter collided with.  We took Autumn to the hospital and got her leg treated, then picked up some perscriptions and headed home.  In all the whole process took about 8 hours.  Autumn can't walk now because her ankle is very swollen.  It isn't broken, but it ain't pretty.  It's very painful.  She's on two Vicodin and sh'e still feeling it.  We'll be keeping a close eye on her the next couple of days.  And the car........it's toast!  I'll post pics tomorrow.

OUCH! I've been a car wreck before, I'm demented enough to say it was fun for the first 5 or 6 seconds, after that just soreness, soreness, and oh yeah, soreness. I didn't get hurt bad though, that sucks your daughter did.

Per chance, is that a delayed light?

I got one too. Today, bout 8:15 am, something tripped the gates on 116th street. DUnno why. But I saw one guy run across as the gates came down. Shortly after, about halfway into the down position, a red something or other streaks over the crossing. had to have been doing 45-50mph. WHich is stupid anyway, in town on a major road. But if front of a train, even one not moving...

I see a particular "Ouch" on the bank coming soon.

Shouldn't be too bad actually as we have been dealing with a radiator issue in her for most of the summer.  She has been losing coolant (plain old H2O), and has been emptied on several occasions when she wasn't going to be started for a few weeks.  I may be that she didn't get the levels checked properly this morning, or it may be that the fan just didn't come on like it should have.  They will have to try and run down the reason why she shut down.  Shouldn't be any damage to the prime mover as that is why they have the safety shutdown mode.

Philip, just read your post.  That is a terrible thing for your daughter (and the whole family) to have to go through....  I hope your daughter's leg gets settled down and stops giving her a lot of pain.  You and your family will be in my prayers!

Good evening from a Sober Island watching the now not-so-far off track of Hurricane Bill. Should be here on Sunday, and the present computer models place it right on us (worse case) to about 85 miles off shore (east). Wind profiles don’t look very encouraging, and with the present size larger than the Gulf of Mexico, the difference between right over us and 85 miles off shore is moot!. The good news is that it’s been down-graded from Cat 2 to just below that at Cat 1,( 15 kph below the Cat 2 threshold) and the lowering of intensity from 4 through 3, to 2, to 1 is resulting  in a speeding up of it’s passage. It’s now 40kph, whereas it was 18kph when a Cat 4. so hopefully it will blow through quickly.  We fetched our granddaughter today, but I doubt we can send her to play outside tomorrow! (well, she’s 17, so I doubt we’d exactly phrase it that way anyway!) Clown We are more prepared than we’ve been for any storm here, and now we just commit ourselves to God’s care. I’ve been through a 20 point “Put away or bring in from outside” list, and completed an almost as long “To Do” list, including firing up the chain saw this evening, and bringing it into the porch. (I'm not sure why on that last one, just seemed like a good idea at the time) 6 inches of rain possible, and that wind. I’ve left the car outside the garage to get a “brushless car wash”.Whistling Rob: I’ve fixed the lids onto the tar trailer. I’m using card stock, and so long as that survives the wet of the acrylic paints, it should be fine. You said
If it looks enough like a tar trailer with black goo spilling out the back
…this one’s side loading, will that matter?

You make it look easier than it probably is.
…it’s probably easier than my long-winded ramblings make it seem!Next up is the frame, and I’ve decided that I don’t need a cradle, just four posts from the frame “welded” to the tank, two at each end. The frame will have space up front for two propane tanks – the 3” tall chaps. Here’s the basic frame. I’m planning on making the burner from partly rusted wire, and not painting that at all.

Ulrich: Here’s a strudle plan, move to Canada, and supply the Diner!!! We’ve the apples you’d need in the Annapolis Valley, and there is absolutely nothing better than Canadian wheat for the pastry.

Jeff: The backdrop is very effective. I relate big time with your putting up the wrong  one first. I tend to do that...plan it out and do something else by mistake.Banged Head  Haven’t read Page 49 of the Version 1.6 Diner, let alone any of this Version 1.7…and now it’s a late dessert time. So, I’ll say goodnight and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort and peace. Angel
