 Evenin´ Folks,

sun is starting to set - the days are now getting much shorter and there is this smell of fall already in the air. And cobwebs every where.

Zoe, I´ll have a sun downer - what?  Not again, I am not under age - may I suggest that you buy a new pair of glasses? Oh you have, but Vinnie misplaced them...

Todd - how about having some strudel instead? I brought a two-weeks supply with me.

Will be going to bed pretty early today, maybe in an hour or so. I am still not up to speed yet. YAAWN!

My day started off OK but then went downhill from there. I went over to mow my sister's yard this morning and didn't even get half the front yard finished. Since it's been a while since it was last mowed the grass was pretty thick in places. The  blades got caught up in one of these places and stopped. I disengaged the blades but it wouldn't disengage. Even before I could turn the key off the blade drive belt burned in two. My sister says she'll get another one today and have her son put it on. Yeah, right! He's the one who was supposed to get the gas for the mower all last week and didn't! He was too busy sitting on his dead butt! I'll probably be the one putting the belt on.

Good afternoon to all, it is 82F here and 74% Dew Point......that is as high as I have ever seen it here in central New England. It is downright tropical outside, you sweat just standing still. People that have this weather all year can have it, I'll take our winters and fall and spring anytime compared to this. Even the pool water is 86F! So MRR'g is the order of that day.

The weather prognosticators said that Bill will get caught up in the Jet Stream and go out to see as it passes Bermuda. Well, take a look at this guys and tell me what YOU think!!! Der John, Fergie, Luc, better batten down the hatches in Nova Scotia, you are going to take a direct hit by the looks of this.

As for us, look at MA on the chart, and I live dead center in MA between east and west and north and south. Should we get ready ?? Or will it swing away?

Click on the Satellite view on the page that opens, look how close BILL is !!!!

Wow, look at all the new posts in here. Couldn't get in last night with one big thunder-boomer after another rolling through. What a spectacular display of lightning. Looked like 1 hit our farm near the front pasture. I'm just happy for all the rain runoff into the creek.

***Jeffrey, good luck with the surgery.

***Tom, where were Principals like that when I was growing up?Smile,Wink, & Grin

Glued the rest of the windows in the silo structure last night. Broke two of them and pretty much did a lousy job of glueing everything. Wouldn't hurt to get one of those magnifiers I've been putting off buying. Wife's HO scale models are more forgiving than my tiny N stuff. When the time comes, going to go heavy on the weathering with my structures.Whistling

Have a good day all.

A Beautiful Summer Afternoon, Janie, and I'll have cheesey fries, bowl of chili and a RBF, please. Yeah, for some that could be an... interesting... combination, but I should be fine. Thanks! WinkDinner

Tom, you Northern Californians just haven't been having much luck on your weather this summer, I'd say. Hope they're wrong and you do get some cooler breezes out of the Anchorage Clipper. And give your Viking Warrior and Her Princessness Spooky an extra bite of dinner on me. Gotta grow those winter coats, right? When they get about to their peak coat, post pics (if you can get them), okay? So has your lady friend heard about the new principal yet? OopsWhistling

Sawyer, that's a bit of a schedule you have this year - are you shooting for graduating mid-year, or just going to senior year next year? Smile,Wink, & Grin Best wishes with all of your load, and remember to study (I guess in class or at home, since you don't have a study hall). Thumbs Up

Ulrich, I hear you on the beef, and I also like grilled chicken and have that or small steaks (if they're running a sale on them at the store, but that's not as often as I'd like) often for dinner (mostly grilled chicken) with a salad, some second veggie and some kind of fruit (peaches or pineapple slices, or strawberries when they're in season Yeah!!). Yum! Might just change my late lunch order - oh, no, Janie, no need to let me 'talk with Vinnie about dat', I'll go with my original order, thanks!) (Whew - that was close!)

Jeff - is that surgery the one to take care of that problem bones in your foot? [Edit:] Okay, saw your post that it is. Sorry to hear things haven't been healing themselves as quickly as you or your doctor want. Marking my calendar for the 31st for your surgery (No, Todd I'm not gonna get Jeff a card for that, so no reminder is needed...) Backdrop looks awesome! Thumbs Up

Inch, I'm sure your pantry and cellar are both well-stocked by now. Dinner That's a lot of work doin' the canning, but come wintertime, I'm sure you and Deb enjoy the results! Hope you find a good place to hide before all the girls arrive (how old are they? I recall from my daughter that about 8 to 10 years was really a chatty age. Whistling

Paul, how long ago did you get that tractor? Hope it holds up better than that once they get the repairs done. Shock Does the California niece live on a farm with her folks, or is she just a natural about taking to chores like that? I'm sure (your son) John appreciates having her help. Yeah!!

DAVID! Shock Sign - Welcome back! How've you been you 'young whippersnapper'? Smile,Wink, & Grin Any MRR news lately for yourself? Well, tell Jeff, and we'll let him fill us in without tying up your time as much.

Todd, that was something about the way big brick buildings re-direct/weaken a twister. Never had heard that before.

Dick, maybe Bill is heading off to sea, but it's so wide across (no comparison to present company needed, thankyouverymuch!) that it'll still likely pack a hefty punch for the East coast. I think your pool will get topped off and then some. Wink

Rob, the problems you described with the N scale silo is all the more reason why we are amazed at some of the stuff DerJohn builds. (Yeah, go ahead and get one of those magnifying visor things).

Jeff, maybe can you just turn the entire mowing thing over to the nephew (in your sister's presence), and let her ride his **tt about it? How old is he, by the way - not that it seems to make a difference?

Jerry, hope you and Sallie have a great time at the wedding and all this weekend. Yeah!!

Well, got laundry done late this morning, and started getting the layout cleared off for the trackw**k/realigning. Cleared everything off except the loco and freight cars, the crossing guard's shed, and the freight station (has a load of packages, crates, etc. on its deck, so I'm gonna need a box to hold the whole thing when I move it off). Also got a lot of the papers on the DR table into folders (computer, MRR-related, financial, general info, health & medical records/info, etc.), but still have more to do on the workbench/table. Weather here has been very nice today - it was only 78 F (26 C) this afternoon as I was heading over here, and a nice breeze. I think the humidity is only in the 40-45 percent range, which feels great! Cool

Didn't get any kits w**ked on last night after all - got distracted on other (non-essential) things. Maybe tonight. Sigh Vacation is about over... Too short, too short, and not enough done that I'd wanted. (I'm sure nobody else in here had that happen to them, right? Wink)

I'll be at the front window booth, finishing off my RBF (and maybe ordering a second one, Janie - thanks!).

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

It wouldn't do any good. He'd just find a reason not to do it. BTW, he's 26 and loses jobs about as frequently as I change shirts.

Well, Jeff - I was wondering if he was irresponsible because he wasn't old enough yet to be that mature, or just plain irresponsible. Thanks for clearing that up.. Oops No neighborhood (down the road a bit?) kid she could hire cheap? Probably not, nowadays, though, and from your pics of your area I'm guessing the nearest teenager to hire might be pretty far down the road, too.

What happens when after your surgery, you're under the doctor's orders to stay off that foot, for however long? She might want to borrow Rob's bushhog...

The nice thing about her mower is it can be driven without the use of the feet. Just one hand for steering and the other hand for handling the speed/direction control. It's an automatic and can go from forward to reverse in an instant and without using a clutch. Forward, reverse and braking can all be done with the hand control. I wish my old Peerless tractor could do that.

Hey Guys.

Jeff, glad your surgery went fine. At least you aren't putting too much weight on the foot.

Ulich, I bought a Holden B12 in 00 scale and fits fine in an HO gauge. I only have a few flange problems on code 83 track

Actually, I'm working for early dismissal as a senior. But I mgiht take a college class or two to get them out of the way; idk whether the credit transfers or not, but I know I at least wouldn't have to take it in college.

Well, got my hair cut for soccer. It is now SHORT! Also got two cans of Krylon Clear Finish today, hopefully this stuff will work good on my models.

PPPFFFTTT!!! Love our government, decided that schools had to be in every hour of 180+ days, no halfsies, no letting Seniors out two days early to get their Finilas squared away before Graduation or to have time to plan Graduation, and very few vacation/snow days.

It's Statewide, so far. National does have some say. We did get out early on Teacher prep days, but not anymore...

Just a big glass of water please, thanks. Well she got her boots. We ate at the Golden Corral and now I'm home. No Tornado. All is well. We will find out if Durango Boots are as well made and durable as Justin, the brand I wear. I get mine from Sheplers but I know what size boot I wear in that brand so I can do it. She did not and we had to find out. We went to TSC and they had no boots suitable for riding a horse, IMO, so we ended up at Big R, a local farm and home store like TSC but bigger. No one in Springfield carries Justins except a place called Horse Creek Outfitters. The charge a lot for their boots and I can get mine on the internet a lot cheaper. I hate to go in a place and try on their stock so I know what to buy from someone else.

Jeff- I know what problems you have with your nephew. I had the same with my son. Wouldn't do anything without wanting paid if he‘d do it at all. Free room, free board, education, sports activities etc and wouldn't even think about doing anything unless there was some money involved. Needless to say he didn't get rich and I didn't go lose any money. Now though, he has a managers job, not the best of managers but it pays his bills and has possible future advances. He's working and has been for a couple of years now steady. He even PAID ME to work on his truck! I told him to keep it for the kids. When he left, he left $50 dollars with Brenda and told her to not tell me til after he left. There's hope.

He is the one, by the way, who borrowed the camera charger and has yet to return it. Some things I guess take longer to change than others.Grumpy

Dick- I don't know if I'd head for cover yet, but I'd definitely keep my eyes open. I don't want want to keep bringing it up like we're the only people who ever had a tornado, but 2 minutes before it hit, we weren't in any danger either. You listening guys up north?

Jim- Can't swear by that weakening story, I haven't researched it. Just repeating what was told to me second hand. It sounded logical to me. Sorry the vacation is drawing to an end but like you said they never seem to last long. Come to think of it, nothing seems to last long anymore especially the daysWhistling. Well except for payments!Laugh

Evenin' folks!

Ah, Zoe, lets see what do I want......???  Ah, how 'bout a.... Nah, lets see,  Hmmmmm?  OH!  I know I'll have a cup of decafe and a big hunk of that Apple Strudel that Ulrich brought in.

Didn't get a chance to pop in this morning before I had to drive to the museum and get there before 8:30 which was Train Crew Call.  I spent 9.5 hours w**king, ah make that volunteering on the Erie Caboose today.  No break at lunch time.  I had my lunch on board when we had a small run up.  Had  a good crowd in the morning, but it slowed down quite a bit during the mid to late afternoon.

Old RS3 #211 broke down about 2PM.  She overheated which threw the engine oil light on, and went into a safety shutdown mode.  So after about 45 minutes of deciding what the best route to follow was, we backed out train down to meet her (she was lass than 100 yds. down the track from where we boarded when she quit).  Coupled on, had to change out brake hoses at the end of the Erie caboose (we add an extension on the end to give us emergency braking control at that end of the caboose), and had to close certain valves and other such stuff to give the 80 tonner that was pulling the train I was working on brake control over the dead #211.  Ran everything down to the station, parked old 211 on the end of track 5 (which is the track we use for boarding anyway, and uncoupled her.  The motive power crew dropped any other job they had for the day, The superintendent of the motive power dept. came in and got to work on her.  When I left at the end of the day (3 hours later) they still weren't sure what the problem was, nor had a decision been made on what they would be using for motive power replacing 211 if she can't be brought back on line for tomorrow.......  Hey we work there just like the real thing... Ya know...?!?

We had a guest from another Chapter of the NRHS visiting all day.  He has his license both from the other museum and as an engineer professionally before that.  He was very happy to stand in at the throttle of the 80 tonner and let the guy who was at the controls go work on old LV RS3 #211 for the rest of the afternoon....  Anyway a very long but interesting day.  I am officially pooped and have to back up by around 6AM to get back to the museum by 8:30 tomorrow.....

I woke up this morning to my daughter calling on the phone.  I picked it up from a dead sleep and she's crying her eyes out saying that she wrecked tthe car.  She said she's only a little hurt but the people in the other two cars are on their way to the hospital.  They walked to the ambilance though, so thats good.  She said one of the other cars ran a red light.  The car was totaled.  I told her I'd be there in a few minutes and the wife and I were out the door.  20 minutes later the cop is telling me that some people say that my daughter ran a red, others are saying that one of the other drivers ran the red, but the third driver was just sitting waiting to turn left and just got nailed by the car my daughter collided with.  We took Autumn to the hospital and got her leg treated, then picked up some perscriptions and headed home.  In all the whole process took about 8 hours.  Autumn can't walk now because her ankle is very swollen.  It isn't broken, but it ain't pretty.  It's very painful.  She's on two Vicodin and sh'e still feeling it.  We'll be keeping a close eye on her the next couple of days.  And the car........it's toast!  I'll post pics tomorrow.

Good evening from a Sober Island watching the now not-so-far off track of Hurricane Bill. Should be here on Sunday, and the present computer models place it right on us (worse case) to about 85 miles off shore (east). Wind profiles don’t look very encouraging, and with the present size larger than the Gulf of Mexico, the difference between right over us and 85 miles off shore is moot!. The good news is that it’s been down-graded from Cat 2 to just below that at Cat 1,( 15 kph below the Cat 2 threshold) and the lowering of intensity from 4 through 3, to 2, to 1 is resulting  in a speeding up of it’s passage. It’s now 40kph, whereas it was 18kph when a Cat 4. so hopefully it will blow through quickly.  We fetched our granddaughter today, but I doubt we can send her to play outside tomorrow! (well, she’s 17, so I doubt we’d exactly phrase it that way anyway!) Clown We are more prepared than we’ve been for any storm here, and now we just commit ourselves to God’s care. I’ve been through a 20 point “Put away or bring in from outside” list, and completed an almost as long “To Do” list, including firing up the chain saw this evening, and bringing it into the porch. (I'm not sure why on that last one, just seemed like a good idea at the time) 6 inches of rain possible, and that wind. I’ve left the car outside the garage to get a “brushless car wash”.Whistling Rob: I’ve fixed the lids onto the tar trailer. I’m using card stock, and so long as that survives the wet of the acrylic paints, it should be fine. You said
If it looks enough like a tar trailer with black goo spilling out the back
…this one’s side loading, will that matter?

You make it look easier than it probably is.
…it’s probably easier than my long-winded ramblings make it seem!Next up is the frame, and I’ve decided that I don’t need a cradle, just four posts from the frame “welded” to the tank, two at each end. The frame will have space up front for two propane tanks – the 3” tall chaps. Here’s the basic frame. I’m planning on making the burner from partly rusted wire, and not painting that at all.

Ulrich: Here’s a strudle plan, move to Canada, and supply the Diner!!! We’ve the apples you’d need in the Annapolis Valley, and there is absolutely nothing better than Canadian wheat for the pastry.

Jeff: The backdrop is very effective. I relate big time with your putting up the wrong  one first. I tend to do that...plan it out and do something else by mistake.Banged Head  Haven’t read Page 49 of the Version 1.6 Diner, let alone any of this Version 1.7…and now it’s a late dessert time. So, I’ll say goodnight and God Bless. Prayers continuing for all in need of healing, comfort and peace. Angel

I see a particular "Ouch" on the bank coming soon.

Shouldn't be too bad actually as we have been dealing with a radiator issue in her for most of the summer.  She has been losing coolant (plain old H2O), and has been emptied on several occasions when she wasn't going to be started for a few weeks.  I may be that she didn't get the levels checked properly this morning, or it may be that the fan just didn't come on like it should have.  They will have to try and run down the reason why she shut down.  Shouldn't be any damage to the prime mover as that is why they have the safety shutdown mode.

Philip, just read your post.  That is a terrible thing for your daughter (and the whole family) to have to go through....  I hope your daughter's leg gets settled down and stops giving her a lot of pain.  You and your family will be in my prayers!

20 minutes later the cop is telling me that some people say that my daughter ran a red, others are saying that one of the other drivers ran the red, but the third driver was just sitting waiting to turn left and just got nailed by the car my daughter collided with.

Per chance, is that a delayed light?

I got one too. Today, bout 8:15 am, something tripped the gates on 116th street. DUnno why. But I saw one guy run across as the gates came down. Shortly after, about halfway into the down position, a red something or other streaks over the crossing. had to have been doing 45-50mph. WHich is stupid anyway, in town on a major road. But if front of a train, even one not moving...

OUCH! I've been a car wreck before, I'm demented enough to say it was fun for the first 5 or 6 seconds, after that just soreness, soreness, and oh yeah, soreness. I didn't get hurt bad though, that sucks your daughter did.

Depends, does it matter to you? Laugh I'll be interested to see how this flea speck of a model turns out. Looks fantastic so far. I'm already picturing the tar stains and spills all down the sides. I sure hope Bill calms down to just a quick moving annoyance. Then you can ride out the storm at the modeling bench and forget about the chainsaw.

Jeff, glad your surgery went fine. At least you aren't putting too much weight on the foot.

No surgery yet. That happens after Labor Day.
