Good Mornin, Eggs fried hard, bacon fried soft, biscuits and gravy, small order please, hash browns, a glass of Ed's OJ and some coffee please. Thank you. And I see whatever anyone else wants is on me. Figuratively speaking of course.

Happy August 2nd everybody. Yard needs mowed today and some train time hopefully will happen. Hard to tell so soon in the day.

Ray- Beautiful Eagle pictures. Sounds like you had a blast but I'll bet it's a relief to be home.

Nik- Sounds like you did well at the benefit. I hope you did.

JP- Great! You've got it to where she won't have a problem figuring out what you want. Now if you could just get it to where you could figure out what SHE wants! THAT'S the problem area!!LaughLaugh

Rob- Don't know if this will do. It says HO scale but claims to be 1:100. I hate it when sellers claim HO scale for anything close. Grumpy Or here, about 27 down the page. You can also find another Trident SWAT van here, (go down the page until you see Trident vehicles) but I'm unable to find a picture of this particular one.My guess is you're wanting something more like the E-bay 1:100 version of van. I'll keep my eyes out if I see anymore.

Have a Great Day!!

Soggy afternoon all.  The heavens just opened up and the rain is blowing against the front door.  the porch is 15 ft deep so we've got a strong wind out there.  Neptune City day went off well as we had a beautiful day Saturday.  Working 12 days straight is a bit tiring, espescially when 1.5 days are done for free.

Garry - I had to do a lot of back-reading... my sincerest condolences to your family. We had our 2 losses this year but your's is way different.. I send my prayers.

Jerry - Good luck to your brother on his treatments.  Chemo can be difficult for some people.  My prayers to him too.

No MRRing after the past week of work.

The Mahi Mahi with garlic mashed potatoes, please & thanks.

***Jerry, sorry to hear about your brother. That's a tough one.

***Todd, thanks for the tips. We'll be ordering something this Monday. I know she would prefer a SWAT van (for raiding a drug lab in the trailer park), but she will accept a standard Police truck for this as well. Found one by Boley I'll show her Monday when she returns.

Here are a couple progress pics on the wife's HO layout. One looking over the future site of the farm house (end of gravel road). Looks like a neighbor has his trackhoe out to dig a pond for the farmer's cattle & horses. The other pic is where the local church will reside. Wife is leaning towards making it a paved road. Whatever she decieds, I do know there will be a "striped" work crew doing much of the manual labour.Pirate

One day I need to get a digital lens for my new camera, as this old one doesn't take the best pics. At least you can get the general idea of what we're working on.

Got my sisters yard mowed and enjoyed a couple of fresh pears while I was at it. She has 3 pear trees and 2 peach trees growing wild in her yard. The pears are very good this year! So I cut the grass and gorged myself on sweets. I also replaced 4 solar lights along my parent's front walkway and the 2 remaining old ones that still worked down closer to the house. I know that sounds easy but it's really not as the lower half of their front yard has 4 inches of packed gravel under it.

Afternoon, double bacon cheeseburger with BBQ sauce please and some French fries.

Happily I spent most of the day in the basement working on the front wall of the new Whatabuger going up across from the brewery. It should do well there especially since it will be a small one. I heard that Popeye's is eyeing the area for a store there too. I hope so.

JerryAngelAngelFor your brother.

Jeff- Boy those fresh pears and peaches sure do sound good! I assume fruit sugar is better than cane sugar?

Rob- Progress is looking good.

Well the rain made it here.

Jerry.....Hope your brother is doing better.

Jeff......How dare you talk about pears and peaches.  I haven't had either in years!!!  Dinner

Rob......The farm scene is coming along Thumbs Up.  You might wanna try this.  To cover up the foam, try some "plaster paris".  Just add water with the powder, and spread it on the foam.  It will smooth everything out.  Then I add paint, and foliage for the grass/hills.  First I add the paint, and then sprinkle the foliage (grass, soil, burnt grass etc) on.   Kinda makes it stick.

I've been in the basement most of the weekend trying to finish up the "Rock" hopper.  Well  here she is.

Afternoon, Flo - I'll have a RBF in a cup to go, please. Thank you, ma'am!

I had to stop after reading a while - was thinking I'd wandered into 'Car Talk', between PC and Jeff's accounts. Smile,Wink, & Grin Glad both you guys got the jobs done (sooner or later...Whistling) And no, I won't specify which one of you I think is 'Click' and which is 'Clack'. Laugh

And between Jeff and JR, we about have an exercise workout center, as well. JR, hope you're done with hauling stuff out for a while there!

Jeff, your account sounded like "Man VS. Machine" - and reinforced my decision to do as you said at the end (particularly since I'm much less mechanically inclined than you and would've quit much earlier in the process...).

Jerry - maybe your circus company and Rob's wife's circus companies could team up for shows! Wink Hope your power chair guy shows up early on Monday so you can get out (and that the weather cooperates, too).Yeah!! Keep us posted on how your brother's treatments are going for him, too.

And Rob, good to see how the scenery's coming along on your wife's layout. Sleeping through an earthquake, huh? Are you starting early on your ORF nap qualifying trials?Zzz

Inch (Mike) - thanks for being my guinea pig on the W-S metal kits; I now know to go get some super glue gel instead of epoxy. Wink Hope Deb's Dad reconsiders retirement, but my ex-FIL was a farmer, and from what I saw, they tend to work until you close the coffin lid (not sure if that stops some of 'em).  I hope that Deb and you had some fun and the ham and beans boil (was that Sat. night?).

And speaking of food, I had a good time at my buddy Mark's last night (and ate too many helpings of fish).DinnerOops

BridgeTom - better put on your battle armor if you're going up against his Vikingness...Shock Remember, he has claws and you don't! Wonder if Uff-Dah knows the scent of brass by now?

Ray, I think maybe Manét's been talking with Uff-Dah about the techniques of commandeering territory for themselves. Nice photo of those eagles, by the way! Good to see your Engineering group was able to shoot off their rockets and didn't get rained out. Thumbs Up

JP - what Todd said (on the gift ideas...).  Whistling

Barry, what if you got another (used) keyboard and set that one out for Spring to have for his very own? Think that'd work? Wink You guys with those persistent felines are making a great case for me to get a dog...Laugh

Robby, another great job on the 'Rock hopper'. Thumbs Up Still keeping your FedEx in mind. And (though I realize she may quote me forever...) "Listen to your wife" about the fretting over it. Oops Did I actually say that? My bad...

On my personal MRR front, I got two Kadee uncoupler magnets (and intensifier plates) put under the track. For those who recall my layout plan, one is on the back industrial track, and the other is on the track that leads by the junkyard/transfer track area. But I'm wondering about the back one, whether I should move it over before the turnout for the back-most siding... Had to do a little chiseling work after I got the cork out on both locations (and more on the back industrial one). I may be able to post photos tomorrow. Or I may rethink where I want to put them. Here's a rough pic of their locations (red circles):

The bigger blue circle (at the top) is where I think I may move the one uncoupler magnet (I'm not sure that siding for the warehouse is that long...). The smaller blue circle is a secondary place I think it would be good to put another uncoupler (for uncoupling and leaving a second loco in the enginehouse tracks, or for putting cars on the RIP/MOW track below the enginehouse). That way, I wouldn't be having to reach over any mainline track trains to uncouple cars/locos on the further-back tracks. Any comments or suggestions, Diners?

Right now, I'm just glad that the pager and cell phone have been silent, and am hoping for that to continue the rest of the evening and night. (Yeah, I could live with that!)

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Coffee refill, please.

***Robby, excellent work, as usual.Thumbs Up On our train order for Monday is a 6-pack flock & turf. Still have an assortment of old acrylics I plan on using to cover the green foam. That foam was just a cheap (free / minus gas to go get it) way to create some instant terrain. Some will get painted/flocked/tree'd over, while other areas will be re-terrain'd with leftover sheetrock & tile stuff.

Here is one more progress pic. Wife wanted a spot for a future cabin scene, so I squared off the outer corner of the mountain. Trestle was removed for applying sheetrock goop. Next up will be setting the tunnel portal in place, then more foam on the other side of the canyon, then more sheetrock stuff, then....oh my, it will never end, will it?Sigh

Oh, also been working on the wife's IRS building Hospital today. Half the walls are now glued and primed. She picked out a pinky tone, very much like the full-scale local hospital.

Time to go do the critter rounds. Have a good one y'all.

The natural sugar in the fruit is nowhere near as potent or dangerous to diabetics as refined sugar is.

Afternoon all from SunnyMildCal.   Temps in the mid '80's, breezy, and it promises to stay that way all of next week.  YEAH!  Tongue

Spent the morning with upside-down steamers on the kitchen table, a Q-tip and alcohol.  I now have nice, bright, shiny wheels (and some really GROSS-looking Q-tips!).  Uff-Dah came and supervised, he was especially fascinated by my two 3-cylinder Rio Grande Mountains.  He may be weaning himself off of Yellowstones, BTW.

Just remotored one of my Westside Rio Grande Baldwin Challengers, took it out onto the layout and tried it out.  It purrs. Tongue  Hooked up some cars behind it and watched it crawl up and down the mountains.  I was going to take photos, but my Canon needs the battery re-charged.  Maybe next weekend in WPF.  Little sucker weighs about 5 pounds without the tender, so I can't really pose it on any bridges, LOL!   Sure is a beauty, though.

Rob:  Like the way your wife's layout is coming.

Garry:  Finally got to the photo of the "Quintuplex".  What a monster!   Despite the SP-looking cab in front, I understand that the lokie was actually considered for the Santa Fe during their somewhat short-lived 'romance' with Mallets, back in the early 1900's.   Weird.  Just weird, LOL!

Ray:  Those eagle photos are incredibly beautiful.  Marvelously handsome birds.

Jerry:  Prayers for your brother.

Robby:  Beautiful job on THE ROCK hopper car.  You are fast becoming DA MAN when it comes to weathering.  Bow

Jim:  Oddly enough, "Uff-Dah" reserves his claws for the Vet, LOL!  When he bats me, it's like boxing.  But HOO-BOY, is that cat QUICK!

Had an interesting time at the supermarket today.  Went over to get dinner, and decided to visit the Deli, as usual (I've been working on a sandwich/salad regimen lately, which has sliced off about 30 pounds from my ageing body).   They feature a "Build it yourself" Super-Sub, which I was in the mood for (it'll last me through lunch tomorrow, also) and I asked the server to build my usual--roast beef, dry salami, Swiss and Provolone cheese, tomatoes, pickles, onion and lettuce with Honey mustard--and while I was watching her 'create' it, a lady of somewhat indeterminate age and rather sallow complexion came and stood by me and huffed and puffed and wondered "who THAT sandwich was for."  "Me," I smiled.  "Humph.  It's going to give you Cardiac Arrest."  And to top it off, she announced, "You're too OLD for that kind of sandwich."

Now I'm blessed with lower than normal chlorestorohl, my blood pressure is very well stabilized, and except for my right re-built leg and a slight case of COPD which very seldom bothers me, I'm in pretty good health for my age.  And I happen to LIKE those SuperSubs.  They've sure melted the pounds off of me.  So I smiled at her and said, "Beg pardon, but are we SLEEPING together?"  She reared back and said, "Certainly NOT!"  "Good,"  I smiled.  "Otherwise, I'd have to tell you to stay the F**** out of my personal life."

Server cracked up.  Lady turned and huffed away.  Several other customers at the counter chuckled.  I told the server that I also wanted a medium artichoke pasta salad.  Real California stuff, I suppose.

Next time I see that sallow-looking lady, I think I'll dump a ten-pound pot roast into my shopping cart and just grin.

Best to all, prayers to those in need.

Now that is priceless! Absolutely priceless! If it had been me I'd have asked her if she was my doctor. When she'd have said 'No' I would have simply said 'Good. I won't have to cancel all my future appointments with your office'. Even my doctors know better than to park their noses in my business.

Evenin' folks!

I have spent much of today at an Eagle Ceremony and reception.  As is always the case it was an impressive ceremony including the history of everything the Scout has accomplished.  I have known this scout since before he was born, so to speak, his father studied classic guitar with me for several years, I sang and played classical guitar for his parents wedding, and have watched the kid as he went through his entire time from cubs to Eagle.  He spent last week at SciTek Quest camp with us.  It was his second year at that camp.  He is a bright and very articulate young man, which made it a bit amusing when he went to thank all the people who helped him along the way and completely froze.......  This is a kid who has had leading roles in school plays, has taught Sunday School (his Mom is a Methodist Minister), and can debate intelegently on almost any subject.....  and all he could say was, "Uh, well, uh.........."

I also have spent most of the rest of the time getting stuff put away, catching up on some odds and ends, etc.  So I am just now getting in here to get a decafe refill.

twhite
Ray:  Those eagle photos are incredibly beautiful.  Marvelously handsome birds.

Absolutely!  The Bald Eagle was rescued as a fledgling from Alaska.  She was very emaciated and they didn't think she would live.  She is now 30 years old.  She had a broken wing and can not fly.  Very docile and will readily take food hand fed:

The golden Eagle was raised in captivity but can fly and if he got loose would not come back.  He still gets nervous around  groups of people and tries to escape so he was hooded to calm him down.  If he was to escape, he would not be able to fend for himself and would die.  Therefore he is kept in captivity.  Both are very large and beautiful birds.  All the presenters are licensed animal handlers and use the animals for educational purposes.  Like this little thing......

Tom, Manét is still at my side where ever I go in the house.  He was not happy when I went to the Eagle Ceremony today.  He is claiming most of the space where my computer keyboard is sitting right now....... He has climbed up on my shoulder and groomed the back of my head at least 5 times today.  Then he flops over and wants to be held like a baby in my arms.  I think he missed me. Wink

BTW, I loved your story, Tom!  You obviously have been blessed with a Musicians sense of humor!   When I get in those kind of situations and someone is giving me the "Hairy Eyeball" about what i am eating, my usual coment is that I intend to eat it standing up so it won't count! Whistling

Hope all of you have a great evening!

Barry, that would have been my wife here in my house.  She was always on a diet (all 120 lbs. of her) and expected me to only eat the things she said were good for me.  I cheated a lot when she wasn't home....  Oh, and she died.....  at age 40 of leukemia.

I had a sort of death tonight here in my house.  A CFL bulb that was purchased shortly after we moved into this house 25 years ago has finally decided to go ppplllutz, flash, flash ,flash, off..........Flash, flash, etc.  So I took it down from the fixture in the hallway where it has spent almost a quarter of a century illuminating the way to the bathroom, and put it in the box of similar lights for the hazardous waste day coming up at the landfill in September.  Replaced the old 15w bulb with a new 11w one that is considerably brighter.  Hope the new last at least half as long. Wink  Oddly enough 2 of the 3 bulbs we bought when we moved in here died this year.  The third died a little over a year ago.  I guess 25 years is about all you can get out of those things...........  I think they earned their keep!

 Good morning.

It's 77 and partly cloudy. The high today will be around the mid 90's and there's a chance of rain.

Last night I completed my DVD collection of widescreen Indiana Jones movies. I found The Last Crusade at Wal-Mart for $9 and snapped it up. The had all the titles separate this time. Previously they had been together so to get one you had to buy the ones you already had. I hope today to have enough time to work on the DPM Schultz's Garage kit. So far I have the walls trimmed and painted and the door and window pieces are painted. I also have an Atlas GP40 that's been on the shop schedule to have the Atlas body removed and a better detailed body from Bachmann put on.

Good Morning-

We are seeing some sun this morning then back to the ol' cloudbank in the afternoon with the everpopular chance of those t'underin'boomers ag'in. Whistling We had one of those monsoonal things show up in the middle of the night--just to let us know that it was still around.

We up here in ON have a semi-pseudo-Civic Holiday today so I'll be out and about in the garden and in the basement doing semi HD things----kinda sorta---

Flo, I'll just have a coffee and a toasted bagel please----I'm at the RC---

Gooood morning' Happy 3rd of August! Just coffee please.

I've been visiting the MTW thread. Hey, wait guys! Don't run out, I'm not worked up!

Not much happening here today.

Tom- Good comeback. I probably would have stood there and smiled. Head spinning with all I'd LIKE to say, but nothing real good until after she'd gone. That's usually what happens to me.

Ray- Birds, yes. Big long snake no! And I'm sorry to hear about your light bulb. I lost one myself about a week ago. Unfortunately it didn't make it a year. It's siblings that came in the bundle are doing well though. I think he just wasn't meant to be.

Robby- Look at it this way, you're saving the best for last and getting paid to practice. (well, technically).

Best get a move on.

Have A Great Day!

Good Morning All,

Just a regular to go please Zoe. Humid this morning but it should be sunny with a high in the mid eighties. Rained all day yesterday so I didn't get the back porch roof membrane done, but I did get the remainder of the window frames and surrounds stained along with the back door interior. Did some touchup in youngest sons room and continued cleaning in the basement. For now I'm back in the shop and trying to catch up jobs here.

Jerry - our prayers for your brother. Most especially hope the chemo works.

Gotta love the calorie police - not enough for them to do I suppose but what ever happened to minding your own business?

Back to it in the shop - I'll try to stop in later.   CUL, J.R.

I'm at the beach and having fun y'all. the only bad thing is that I don't have any of my model RR projects. I have decided to change my layout plan, though all I have now is a sketch.

Good Morning, Zoe - I'll just have a cup of coffee (Rio Grande mug, please) and a chocolate donut (in honor of BridgeTom's Diet Guardian lady...). Thanks!

See we've got a few Diners in already today. Cape G. weather is supposed to get to the 90's (F) today, and after midnight we might get some rain. Looked this morning like most of it was running south of us.

Ray, I could just see that constrictor thinking to itself "Oh boy, my own Super Sub!" ShockSmile,Wink, & Grin Good that you have a hazardous waste day - when I got my first CFB, I was reading the labels (dangerous thing to do, by the way) and found myself wondering "How many people probably just toss these things in the trash when they burn out?" and "So, if one of these gets broken, do I have to call in the HazMat crew?" Downside of some energy-saving technologies, I suppose.

Tom - good comeback for your snoopy lady. I'd probably be like Todd, and think of one after she'd left...

Barry, too bad on the spare keyboard idea for Spring. You sure seem to have your share (and then some) of the thunderboomers this summer so far.

Jeff, looking forward to seeing how that Schultz's Garage comes along, after reading your progress description.

I'll settle back at the RC and chew the fat with the rest here. Oh, look, here comes our Diet Patrol Lady!Shock "No, no, ma'am - I wouldn't really eat something as unhealthy as fat! No ma'am..."Whistling

Whew, she's gone now. Makes you wonder what chewy cardboard healthy stuff she has in her cupboard... (Oops Not too loud, I think I saw her start to turn around...) (Better hide my donut until she's around the corner...)

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Afternoon Everyone!

Flo how about a Roast beast sub, what? Yes the extra large, a side order of fries with gravy, and a RBF for lunch.  Not a problem, I'll handle the Diet Lady if she hassles you!

I guess I am still in recovery mode from camp......  Got up late and then decided that if don't get half of the lawn mowed before lunch I wouldn't get it done today.

"So, if one of these gets broken, do I have to call in the HazMat crew?"

Simple answer.... No.  Actually the new types of CFLs have only a trace of mercury in them, less than 1mg.  Even the old ones didn't have enough to make it a problem.  Of course I wouldn't want to start smashing them on the kitchen floor either. Whistling  Over the lifetime of the average CFL you are actually saving on the amount of mercury that is put into the air you breathe as most coal fired plants will put out 10 times the amount of mercury to light an incandescent bulb of the same candlepower over the same period.  Yes they should always be recycled (there are many places to do that).   Certain elements in our society (aka: those that tend to profit from it) love to have us all upset about the dangers of new technologies..... Be afraid, be VERY afraid!  BTW I have over 60 of them in my house right now and have been using them for over 20 years.  I have dropped several of them on the hard floor.  Only one broke.  Actually it had a cracked glass.  I quickly put it ito a freezer bag and then put it into the box for recycling.  Then turned on the fans in the basement (it happened in the train room) and stayed out of there for a day.

LOL, I was thinking that myself.  I think it had been well fed before they brought it too the camp! Smile,Wink, & Grin   I do think the campers enjoyed having that picture taken.  These kids were not in the slightest squirmish about handling any of the critters they saw at camp.  You did see the one with the Madagascar Cockroaches, didn't you?  Those things made me a bit.... Yech!Shock

I am hoping to get the yard done this afternoon/early evening and be able to make some quality time to accomplish some things on the layout. So far only 3 people have gotten in touch with me to say they are coming to the NMRA picnic at the NYMT and R&GV Museums this coming weekend.......  That means we would have all of about 6 people there.  Guess there is too many other railfan things going on around here at the same time. Sad

Hope you all have a good one!
