Good Morning
The current temperature is 18C with 100% humidity---lotsa fog around. Sunny today with the high at 31C and about 60-70% humidity. Getting partly cloudy with tomorrow having increasing cloudiness and a chance of showers and those T'underin'boomers. Low tonight will be 22C and tomorrows high will be 28C.
Gonna go and pick up some more of that blue stuff for Eric's layout and see about getting some work done on it this afternoon.
Chloe, I'll have a small pile of pancakes and maple syrup and a coffee please----I'll be at the window booth watching some trains------

"Welcome to the 2009 Illinoy State Fair!" day today. Not bad temp wise high suppose to be 85F with a 30% chance of isolated T-Storms. I don't care much for the fair anymore, but there are some good food vendors out there. A couple new ones I saw Thurs night so I'll be trying them. Gonna knock the you know what out of the end of the month left over hobby funds but like I said, it is nice to spend the day with the wife. I also re subscribed to MRR today no last minute discounts for us cheapskates . Last issue was to be Nov. Maybe I should have waited longer. Also wasted my time and Kalmbach server space by registering for the Walthers loco drawing.
Guess I'll sit here in the booth with Barry and watch the yard for a bit. Maybe check the bay for stuff. Hm, don't know why..., going to the fair will keep my finger from clicking "place bid". You watch, this will be the month when all the good stuff shows up.
Have a Great Day!!

Good morning...
Oatmeal and OJ, please.
Has anyone heard from Paul? I hope he and MaryAnn are OK. I should have asked Ed when he was in the diner.
Rob.... Did you enjoy the "free music"? .... That reminds me of my pet peave for weddings. Family memebrs will travel 100's if not 1000's of miles to attend weddings. Thye can't talk to each other at the reception due to music played at a gazillion decibels.
Barry...... I like the pictures. It gives ideas for modeling vintage buildings that have seen better days.
Inch .... Glad you liked the trip. Nice pictures. Feel free to drive through here again as you did last year. There has been progress since you were here on the 3 layouts (Gus, Dan, and myself)
Ray and Todd.... I suspect it is just as well I did not see that thread.
Ulrich .. If you are peaking in, Guten Tag!....Please keep in touch....Feel free to send some strudel !
Robby...... I'll say I'm glad you did not weather the toilet in the photo!
Chris ... I was wondering where Clarence IA is located. My friend, Gus, was from Cedar Rapids and Waterloo area. You mentioned a Chicago Central caboose. Gus has one on his IC RR layout along with a Chicago Central locomotive.
Lee....... Neat that you are being paid to check on RR bridges. I you get photos, feel free to sahre if you can.
Jeff ... I like the model trailer and your recently made buildings.

Goooood morning. Its going to be a hot one. The high will be about 90!!
I will try to do some more to the layout today. Add some more wood for the backdrop, and work on a few other places.
The toilet is a "Carolina blue", so its staying that color . I also showed the wife how I cut out the part of of the layout (corner), and she was very happy with that. So its all working out "for now".
Everybody have a good day, and I will pop back in later.

Good morning to all, 81F already at 10am, so we might break 90F today for the first time since July 2008. Today I plan to read my MRR issue and Trains issue as well as latest track issue that just arrived from Kalmbach. And if I get all that read, I have several RR books still to read. Too doggone hot to do much outside today, plus we have a grand daughters BD this afternoon.
The pool sure felt good yesterday, 82F water!!
MRR: The guard rails were mounted on the bridge flex track last night. I had a little trouble with mounting, the guard rails which are about 18" in length for this bridge so holding everything in place while the CA sets was a task. Where the two guard rails bend and almost touch, they tended to lift because of the crossover over the simulated rail spikes that guide the guard rail in place. So one little spray of Accelerator took care of that, instant glue set ! Today I need to mount the water barrel platforms, two of those for 150' span bridge, and two water barrels, then weather the track, the platforms, and barrels.
J.R./RAY/BOBK: Get ready guys, we have at least 3 days of 90F+ weather starting today, although you two guys might have hit 90 yesterday, only 87F here. It looks like one hot week, and humid, as the Bermuda HIGH has set up 500 miles off the coast just pumping all that hot equatorial air north.
DER JOHN: You don't escape the heat either my friend, we are passing all this hot air northeast across the Gulf of Maine to Nova Scotia!!! Now you garden will take off John!!!
JEFF: Wake up Jeff it's 10:21, where are you?
DUKE/ED: Have you guys had breakfast yet? RYAN has made Cajon pancakes. I have no idea what they taste like, in fact, I have never even heard of them.
MIKE: Good to see you out with the camera again taking great train photos, but I want to see you win the best of the week contest in Trains Magazine.
TOM: How far away from you is the Santa Cruz fire?
Later guys,
Mornin' everyone!
Chloe, I'll have the #2 Special this morning, scamble the eggs, bacon, homefries, and a double order of that wonderful Sourdough Bread you folks make here. I'll be at the Rivet Counter with some of the others.

Dick, yesterday was 89°F or 90° here in the Finger Lakes. We are currently at 79°F and will get up around 88°F today and 90 tomorrow. Only good thing is it should get the peppers and squash growing like mad out in the garden. Me? I'm gonna stay inside as much as possible........
Well I survived yesterday thanks to my Son and his family. I didn't post about it here, but yesterday was the 22nd anniversary of my wife's death. Thought about her most of the day. Art (son) said he had the realization a few days ago that he knew her less than half his life now. She was a good wife and a loving Mother. I still miss her.
Barry, you still didn't tell me what those letters meant? Inquiring minds want to know!
Hope all of you stay cool and out of harm's way!

Good morning. It's 78 and sunny. The high will be around 93 and there's a chance for rain. After my busy day Friday yesterday was my day of rest. That doesn't however mean that I did nothing. I finally collected up all the little packets of Dremel accessories I had laying around and consolidated them into one tool box. Cutoff wheels in one compartment, polishing disks in the next compartment, drill bits in the next, etc. I also took some time to plan out how I'm going to handle building the new backdrop. One thing I'm going to have to do is iron the prints. Yes, you read that correctly. The prints are rolled up so tightly that when they're unrolled they want to do nothing more than roll up again. So when I'm ready I'll take them down to my parent's place and use my mother's dress steamer press (3.5 feet long x 1.2 feet wide) on the no-steam setting to press them so they lay flat. It'll go pretty fast as I can lay a whole segment on the press and iron it flat in two steps. I'll have to cover the print with a terry towel to prevent it from sticking to the heated pads. This will be about 300 times faster than ironing them with a regular iron. I have 9 prints, 3 from Detail Associates which are 23" x 9" and 6 from Busch which are 38" x 14".Today's Weather for:Sundown, LA 71446-6114 8/16/2009Heat Index: 89°FHumidity: 75%Dew Point: 74°FSo Far TodayHigh: 82°FLow: 74°FRain: 0.00"Rain Rate: 0.00"/hGust: 6mph SEToday High: 95 with a heat index of 109. Hi Barry!
DUH!!! Talk about the brain not working.... I should recognize that one since I coined it. Probably trying to forget about it.... (I hate to miss inside jokes!)
Another great bunch of pics BTW! Would love to see some from that spot back about 50 or so years ago.
Ray- I don't know what to say. Yesterday must have been hard. I'm glad your son stepped in so you wouldn't be alone.
Be it known the humidity is high and I'm fixin' to go sweat at the fun filled fair.

Take care of yourself. It'll be hard for a while---it is a good thing for your son to be there that is for sure--The pix are fun to take when one is doing some of them on the fly---so to speak

And you don't be runnin' 'roun' chasin' stuff in this here heat----OK, now why did I say that in that format?
good afternoon.
Earlier, I meant to tell JimCG I am glad he was able to shop at Chuck's Depot. I wish I could have goen there at the same time.
Also, Robby, I noticed your new GP 35 has Alco style trucks. Reminded me of some of the locos from Jeff's Sundown Shops.
Cheers everybody......
Coffee in a large UNION PACIFIC mug, please & thanks.
***Garry, by the time I got out there, the nice music was over and the partying had begun, blasting stuff I didn't care for.
Never got to do any mrr'ing stuff last night. Perhaps this evening. Came up with an idea on how to proceed with the drive in theater, which has been sitting unfinished since the cat left a gift on it.
Have a good day y'all.
Rob
Too blasted hot to do anything outside today. It's 105 here and just a bare hint that some rain might fall.
Jeff........105?? I think I will stick to my 85
Here's the latest shots. I added the backdrop, and got some spots with some putty. Gotta let that dry over night. The two sides of the layout will have a higher backdrop. Kinda evens it out. While the other two sides will have the lower backdrop. The one table coming in will have two plants/industries. I still gotta play around with the track plan. Seems like I don't have enough track .
WOW is it ever HOT outside!! 88F now at 4:05, I don't think it will hit 80 today, but from what JEFF says, the 105F that he has is heading north on the wings of the Bermuda HIGH pressure system for us tomorrow and Tuesday.
RAY: Man, that is tough to take. I don't ever want to be in that position, but we have very little to say about it. I am happy for you Ray that you have a loving family that obviously surrounds you my dear friend. My thoughts go out to you with a prayer for your happiness as life goes on.
JEFF: Yet ANOTHER talent you have ??? A steam cleaner?? LOL Yes, I know, no STEAM for you. 105F, and that is in the SHADE, I can only imagine what the temp is in the sun. Up here the temp was 86F when I went up to the garden and the temp in the full sunlight was 107F and I thought I would melt!!! I think most of us are inside today.
Later,
Coffee refill, please.
89 here at 5:30pm.
Did some weathering on the wife's farm house and was ready to spray it with dullcoat, only to discover I had picked up gloss by mistake. Looks like another unfished project sitting around staring at me. At least there is still plenty of other things to work on.
Well, Brian Vickers won at Michigan. Glad for him, been a while since he's won, and that team has been phenominal.
Good evening,
Just finished a very good Sunday meal along with a couple of glasses of a nice Riesling from Prejean Winery, which is on Seneca Lake, in Ray's neck of the woods. I now need a nap as it's been a very busy day. Usually Sundays are reserved for railfanning, but today I took the wife and our neighbor to Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Garden here in Pittsburgh. We go a couple of times a year whenever the displays change, and are never disappointed. We got there about 9:30 this morning, and left about 2:00 this afternoon. I think the heat got to me as I'm really tired. Or maybe I'm just getting old. Anyway, it was about 90 degrees outside this afternoon, and not much cooler in most of the Conservatory rooms.
Here's hoping everyone had as good a weekend as I did.

grayfox1119JEFF: Yet ANOTHER talent you have ??? A steam cleaner??
jeffrey-wimberly grayfox1119JEFF: Yet ANOTHER talent you have ??? A steam cleaner?? Not a steam cleaner. A steam clothes press. This is like an iron on steroids. I just pust put the item in, close the lid, lock the handle down, wait 10 seconds and lift the lid and remove the item. Took me 5 minutes to do all 9 items.
OK---now where do you store the thing? You have a hidden warehouse? Those things do make that job of ironing way simpler though---the only thing is that I'm afraid what with all the dang things that show up on the HD list that one would show up even more!!!

It’s 81F and 78% humidity here, just had a squall go through and drop about 0.5” of rain in 2 hours then the sun came back out.
I painted the face of the layout flat black this afternoon; I’ll be adding yellow throttle pockets and yellow switch card holders when the paint dries. I watched Cody’s Office last night and ran to Michel’s to pick up 2 pot tops. I’ll try my hand at right of way grass this week. The pot tops were only $2 for a 6” disk. I also found some weeds that if cut right look like small Christmas trees. The creek section of the layout is almost complete. This morning I added some logs to the front of the bridge imbuement and along the shore line with one or two dead heads sticking up out of the water. I also found another weed at Michel’s I’m going to try and make some Elizabeth lace weeds out of.

Good evening, hope all are well,
Garry: You asked where Clarence is. We're located on US Highway 30 between Cedar Rapids and Clinton, roughly half-way between the two. We're around MP 46 on the Clinton Sub. of the UPRR (formerly the East Iowa Sub. of the CNW). I was born/raised in Cedar Rapids, started railfanning my senior year of high school, and all through the years I more or less wasted in college. CNW is my main focus, but I got hooked on the Chicago Central as their yard was near the CNW's "north yard" just off the downtown area. Something about the really cruddy looking Paduchah (sp.) geeps, most still in IC/ICG orange/white, scuzzy ex-IC/ICG, and KCS grain hoppers, and the general "operating with bailing wire and chewing gum" look of the outfit was intriguing. Then, Jack Haley (owner) bought some paint, and the geeps were a sharp red with white trim... Whereabouts is your friend from?
Sawyer: Good luck Pal on the return to school/entering high school. Are you a freshman (some places don't have that level anymore) or starting as a sophomore? Either way, keep your head down... Also, I caught your comment in Driline's new weathering forum. I am thrilled with the airbrush et. compressor I got from Harbor Freight. Don't remember what I paid, but it was a fraction of what Badger and the others wanted. Just a thought.
Ray: Man, like Todd and others, I really don't know what to say regarding your sad anniversery. I'll echo those thankful for the support of your son and family.
ROBBY P: Dagnabit Man! First you go and inspire me to new heights in weathering... NOW you're a lean, mean, layout building machine! You're gonna shame me into getting some kind of a start (even if it's wrong) on my layout yet!!! Hey, how's the wrist doing??? I'm probably gonna keep bugging you about it until someone with PT or MD or DO behind their name looks at it.
Had to w**k today, covering a "farmer's market" at a quilt shop . Not much there, but THAT editor wanted a photo feature from it. I ended up talking with a Cedar Rapids firefighter I'd met several years ago. He takes old porch collumns and barn boards, combines 'em, and has very rustic looking birdhouses on a self-standing post. We talked fire engines, guys we knew on the job...cool stuff. Oh yeah, and I took some pics of an old gal selling veggies out of her garden, a gal with 70's era looking kids clothes, and simmilar (sp). I was also supposed to cover a church cook-out, but botched the time of it...it was running at the same time I was at the quilt shop/"farmer's market." BUT, they snapped a bunch of pics, so the Minister's wife is going to e-mail 'em in. I also have a line on what may be an interesting story. The Minister and his wife are from India. He ministered throughout the middle east on an underground basis. He told me Christianity is all but illegal in the islamic world, so he feared for his very life. He's the only Indian pastor in the state of Iowa...and has a bit different background than the rest. I'm gonna float the idea by THAT editor this week, see if she wants to do something with it. If not, I might interview the guy anyway and float it as a freelance.
Time to yield the floor, I'll settle into a corner booth, see who-all else comes in this evening while I continue to try and figure out how I'm gonna write-up the congressman's townhall meeting from yesterday...
Chris
EDIT: Hey ROB, at least you realized you had the wrong can (Glosscote) BEFORE you laid down one of the most perfect coats ever... Also, as for the cat's contribution to the drive-in...may I suggest scale posters of your local politicians be planted in/around it??? A monument to govt., state, federal, local???

Thanks Dick and all the others who have mentioned it..... I was very lucky that I had a large support group around me when she died in 1987. Church, Boy Scouts, Faculty and so many of my Students at school who were both caring and supporting of me during that time. If I didn't have them, I can tell you I wouldn't be here now! In another year, both of my son's will be older than my wife was when she passed away. Hard to believe it has been 22 years.
Jeffrey I wouldn't hjave any use for one of them steam thingys..... I try not to wear anything that requires pressing. Besides wrinkles go so well with my complexion.
Speaking of things to wear...... Got a call earlier from my sister. Her mailman (the one who is the cook at the fish place) wants me to get him the shirt I wore last Friday. She did admit that it was pretty good. Being an art teacher and artist, she just doesn't know what to make of my clothing at times. I keep telling her that the former Boy Scout Executive here told people that he bought a special "pre-Stained" shirt for me for SciTek Camp last year.......
OK, gotta go watch some more glue dry down cellar. May have a couple more photos before they close the WPF for the week.
howmusJeffrey I wouldn't hjave any use for one of them steam thingys..... I try not to wear anything that requires pressing. Besides wrinkles go so well with my complexion.
The backdrop along the long wall and over to the AC unit is down. It's gone. The fun is going to be getting the one on the other wall down. I may just leave it there and put the new one up over it.
Chris.....Thanks for the comments. Its a MUCH bigger layout than before. Now I gotta sell some weathered cars to pay for this beast!!
Well guys have a good night. I guess I will finish up watching "We are Marshall", and then hit they hay. I will see everybody in the morning.
