Good morning.

I was saying I did not stop to take a photo of a CSX freight train yesterday, but I will say I noticed it looked like Robby was weathering the freight cars in the CSX train!

Regarding the talk about fast cars. Sad news. The demolition derby may be cancelled  due to economic conditions. Oh No! Say it is not true! Them boys who participate in the demolition Derby each year in Hopkinsville, KY are saying it takes a lot of time and moeny to get a car fixed up just to crash it........This is terrible.......... Them thar boys should get some bailout money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ulrich, I hope they send you wheel set. ..

I posted pictures of F-units on my layout in WPF.

Cheers.

Today: Thunderstorms likely, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could be severe.

Or if you're me, thunderstorms RIGHT NOW!

Good morning, well so far its a good morning.  Seems like thunderstorms are coming my way also.  Maybe some bad ones also.

Well not to much planned today.  Maybe run the layout some, and clean up the house.

Ulrich..........Here's a couple  Railbox shots I did.  I hope they help.

Good morning everybody,

The wife and I did something a little different last night after dinner, we went to a car cruise that's held on Friday evenings in Wexford, PA. Wow! There was something for everyone, hot rods, restorations, muscle cars, Mustangs, Corvettes, etc. Even a section for motorcycles. There wasn't a parking or admission fee, they just asked for a $2.00 donation. I thought I was spending a lot on my trains, but it doesn't even come close to what some of these guys have invested in their cars. If you live reasonably close, I'd recommend a visit.

My collection of Western Pennsylvania locomotives and rolling stock grew in the past two weeks with the addition of a "Top Gon" gondola by BLMA, a Lake Erie Franklin & Clarion RS-1 that I picked up at my LHS, and best of all, I received my SW1500 I had custom painted as Pittsburgh & Ohio Central #1545. It turned out far better than I even hoped for.

I really do admire those of you who can do your own painting and weathering. Don't kid yourselves. You are artists in your own right. I, on the other hand, have trouble drawing stick figures and would probably make a mess painting a barn.

(poking my head through the door)

Is Barry still in?

Zoe, I´ll sit with Barry to do a bit of steam talking. A coffee for me and bring Barry another one of what he is having there...

Now I tried to assemble my last AccuRail kit and SoapBox , there is one wheelset missing - SoapBox. Even if I plan to replace the couplers and trucks through Kadees, I want my kit to be complete. Wrote an e-mail to AccuRail and asked them to send me one - wonder if they do that and how long it will take.

Have to be off again, I also got a mile long to do list from SWMBO  - can´t risk  her being Grumpy...

Good morning.

It's 77 and clear. The high will be in the mid 90's and it will be partly cloudy.

I'll be mowing my parent's yard this morning. That should keep me occupied for several hours. Yesterday was uneventful. I got the front half of the M.T. Arms Hotel set in place. All it needs is a 'CDI Demolitions' sign on it and it'll look right at home. The freight station is also in place. That leaves just the Corner Cafe. I spent part of yesterday researching my Cherokee ancestry and learned quite a bit.

Today's Weather for:

Today: Thunderstorms likely, mainly after noon. Some of the storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Southwest wind between 14 and 16 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible. Tonight: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before midnight. Partly cloudy, with a low around 58. North wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

The Euclid Model Railroad Club will be stopping out Wednesday to check out my layout.  So I’ll be cleaning house and cleaning track to get ready.  If anyone will be in the area your more than welcome to stop by.

Jim, those medusa cement plants were all over the place here on the Great Lakes before they were bought out, how popular were they in your part of the woods?  Some of the Medusa plants didn’t even carry cement; some only handled gypsum or aggregates.

Jeff, sounds like that new AC was working overtime yesterday and I see in the forecast it will be working hard again today.

Good Night ChrisEight Ball - have a good Zzz.

The box car is a Railbox 50´ car and I already found some excellent pics in the forum - was it Robby P. again who did that superb job?

I just have to Bow before that art work -  makes me feel so small...

*Yawn* Good Morning... just stopping in before calling it a night.

Sir Madog
After the desaster with my Soo caboose, I am a bit shell-shocked to go for another attempt at weathering,

ULRICH: First, GLAD to hear you have even the potential for something positive coming your way...fingers are still crossed for ya here, Pal. Second... what really helps me, is having a picture, or two, or three... in front of me as I'm slathering on the weathering stuff. Fallen Flag Railroad Photos, Railcar Photos.com, and Railroad Picture Archives.NET are all FREE to use, and a valuable resource. Also, what roadname was that Acurail boxcar again? Maybe somebody in here has a picture of one they can tack up on the wall in here for ya...like the Soo Line caboose pics I put up just a little too late...Disapprove

Sir Madog
I am really greatful that we can participate in this forum. For me, Elliot´s Diner is the most important thread in it. It spans the world and allows us to build up friendships with people we most likely will never be able to meet in person, but yet are very dear to us.

I heartedly agree! My Dad has been involved with Amateur ("Ham") radio since he was a kid. I used to think he was nuts for sitting in his basement and talking with people all over the world. Now, I'm 40...and I sit in my home office..."talking" with people all over the world. Well...Canada, Nova Scotia, and Germany at least in addition to across the good old U.S. of A... I suspect, as long as we continue to police ourselves, they'll let us keep the lights on in here...even if we do get a new Diner every month.Smile,Wink, & Grin

With THAT... I'll shake your hand, and bid ya a good night... time to hit the rack...Zzz

Good Evening,Night or Morning, depending on your time zone,

Well I am very proud of myself tonight as I finally, after 3 tries, got a decoder installed and working in my IHC Sante Fe. I know it isn't much of a deal for many of you but for me it was a frustrating process and a learning one too.  I have improved my soldering and now will tackle an IHC Hudson I have that is basically the same as the Sante Fe, and may even do sound for that one. The Hudson is a CN version that was done for a store here and is the loco that got me back into model RR so I have a bit of a soft spot for it and will be glad to finally get it converted to DCC so I can run it.

We just got back from our Anniversary dinner, a week late but we were out of town last weekend. We went to the French restaurant where my wife volunteers. She had salmon in buerre blanc and I had a beef filet in a Rocqefort, cognac sauce. It was a wonderful meal. Wish we could afford to eat there more often but it is in the special occasion category for us.

One of the items on my home to-do list was caulk around a window that had leaked a little before and so the plaster below it was damaged. Well we had 2 heavy rain storms on Thursday and I found that the caulking I did on Wednesday didn't solve the problem so it is back on a ladder tomorrow to try caulking other spots. We've had this problem since we moved here and have replaced the window, siding and roof so I'm at a bit of a loss. I now think it is getting in at the flashing above the window.

Weather here has been generally nice but cool. It only hit 65 today and is supposed to be the same tomorrow.

Talk to you soon,

CN Charlie

 Good Morning everybody,

my eyes are not yet fully opened, so is this Chloe? No, please, it is way to early for an RBF - just a big mug of black coffee and a muffin to munch on while I wait for the others to drop in.

Came home late yesterday from my trip to Holland. I don´t like driving at all and my 15 year old Merc is not really comfortable anymore. But at least there is a silver lining on the horizon now - different ships, different concept, not as nice as I´d like to have, but a much higher chance to get off the ground. Friday next week we will continue to negotiate...

Before I left for Holland, I assembled my first AccuRail kit. Looks good to me, but definetively needs new Kadee couplers and trucks. And. most important, a good weathering job. After the desaster with my Soo caboose, I am a bit shell-shocked to go for another attempt at weathering, so I need to get a tutorial from Robby P - your latest work shown here is just breathtaking again...

Crandell - I am really greatful that we can participate in this forum. For me, Elliot´s Diner is the most important thread in it. It spans the world and allows us to build up friendships with people we most likely will never be able to meet in person, but yet are very dear to us. I hope Elliot´s Diner will not be moved to a siding ending at a scrap yard one day...

A good weekend to all of you!

Hello everybody....

I just got back from a quick trip to Cincinnati. 330 miles there yesterday and 300 miles back.

Here's a video of the tragic accident Duke told about. You can see the black car driving around a stopped SUV. Then it was hit.

http://www.detnews.com/article/20090710/METRO01/907100417/Video-shows-vehicle-failed-to-stop-at-train-crossing

One time I was in a cab of a GP9 that hit a pick up truck. The 2 people in the truck were very badly hurt.

I've talked to many loco engineers and they have many horrible stories to tell.

Jerry asked if I would have time for railfanning this trip and I did not. I had my camera, and at one time I wish I could have stopped to take a picture. Between Louisville and Elizabethtown, I saw a CSX train going slowly up the steep grade on the old L&N line. There was an exit, too, but by the time I saw the train I would have cut off a huge truck to get over to the exit lane. I thought better and continued up the I-65 grade.

Evening all.  Didn't get to do any real railfanning this evening, did drive over the tracks twice, but didn't see any changes.  Oh well, I do have some pictures from back in May that I can post, as soon as I remember my Photobucket password...

Nothing for me tonight, well....a tall glass of milk please and thank you.  I ate a huge dinner with my FIL and some friends this evening, so I'm rather stuffed.  Got to enjoy some yummy Snow Crab Legs!  I haven't had them in a while, so they were absolutely wonderful.  Since I've had that, now I just have to get my Chinese and Mexican food fixes and I'll be good to go.

Still going to be working on the GP40-2 this weekend, didn't get to attack it with a toothbrush as planned, but that'll be all right.  I'll get to it and still be able to be happy as things go.  Well, I think that I'm going to go harrass my wife for a little while, so I'll be seeing you gentlemen and ladies all later.

Evenin' folks!

Just a quick decafe for me as I need to head out to do some Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Got about half of the garden weeded.  Everything is growing well out there including the weeds...... It will be Monday before I can get back out there to finish the job if we don't get any hard rains.  Lawn will need mowing by then as well.

Fiddled with a couple of projects in the train room and got some things done for the SciTek Quest Camp coming up in a couple of weeks.  Set up the Photobucket album for photos from camp and printed some cards that tell the parents how to get to the page.

Tomorrow I will be going to a graduation party for A young man from church.  He is also an Eagle Scout in my old troop and an excellent percusionist from the High School Band.  I know him from a lot of perspectives as his Father is also a Scouting friend of mine.  Should be fun.  I can't stay very long as I have to head back out the Boy scout Camp to clean the wasp nests pout of the old speakers on the roof of the dining hall.  Hopefully we can get some volume again from them. Whistling

Hope you all have a great evening!

'Ello again, Chloe? a RBF please over here at the Rivit Counter...thankyamuch.

JIM: I'm humbled by your "humble opinion!" The poles are the time-honored Atlas telephone poles. I sliced off one crossarm/pole, dragged the razor saw along the pole for wood grain, painted/weathered, and wa-la...a pole line for the "photo track." The blue "sky" is the wall of my RR room. Looking at the photos gives me a glimmer of hope for when the layout is finally reality. Oh yeah, no...I wasn't doing the head-tilt/chin-lift in my sleep...if I'da been sleeping...I wouldn't have had to employ it!Mischief

Time to just sit back, and see whoelse makes it in this evening...

Just a quick stop this evening, Chloe - how about a go cup of hot cocoa, please? Thanks!

Robby, great job - but I think Todd (or more exactly, Mother Nature and the CNW) has/have laid down the gauntlet with those photos... WinkWhistling

Sorry to hear about those kids, Duke. I would be inclined to agree with a number of the comments, though - should've been *very* unavoidable, alas. Sigh My AngelAngel for the engineer and for the kids' families, who are left to deal with it all. By the way Duke - good to see you woke up, and didn't get left behind in the old Diner when they hauled it off to the crusher...Shock

Todd, so you were 'practicing' in your sleep? Smile,Wink, & Grin I can understand your concern for Brenda, though.

Chris, are you sure you were doing that maneuver in your sleep? Laugh Hope your weather radio gets all those alerts done and out of its system by tonight. Great job on your covered hoppers, too! Are those the Rapido poles-and-phone-wires (the ready-to-plant ones)? Nice job on the photos - looks very much like a prototype photo, IMHO! Thumbs Up

Jeff - an excellent day to stay hidden under the A/C inside! Nice job on your motel with the weathering - maybe you could rename it the "C.D. Arms Motel"?Wink

Tonight I had a coupon/envelope (some kind of promotion thing they put in everybody's mail slot at w**k) for Texas Roadhouse (restaurant), and was gonna go by for dinner (had been there with my daughter, SIL and TWMWGS for my (belated) Father's Day dinner). However, when I came in the door, there is a huge long line of people, plus about a third of the seats in a side waiting room were filled). Sorry, but I am NOT into half hour waits to eat dinner. Left, and went to O'Charley's, where I was promptly seated (no waiting) and where I know the best items - plus, they had a 7 oz top sirloin on sale at $2.00 off the usual price. Yeah!! Much better deal for the money (and no wait...).

Also went by Target (or Tar-zhay, as some friend kid about saying it) to get a baby shower for some friends who are expecting a baby this autumn/fall (boy). Finally found one of the items on the registry list printout (they have strange numbering on their list - vs. the UPC or bin ticket #'s).

After I get my hot cocoa here, I'll be heading by H-L to see about some 'brick red' paint for a building or two (40 percent off coupon this week), and then home. Need to put the C&O gondola in the 91 percent bath. Wondering what kind of container to use for that... guess I could use the new Pyrex type baking dish, but I'm a little leary of tying up a cooking dish that long (just in case).

Got word that the seller on the Medusa Cement kit got my money order, so I might be getting it next week. But for now, some buildings and some weathering to do first! I think we're supposed to have some rain come through tonight late (1 a.m. or so).

By the way, anybody else having their posts only taking you to the top of your post's page when you hit the 'post' button, instead of to the top of your own post, like it used to do? Or is that just me?

Prayers for healing, for family members recuperating, and for good health and a good night's sleep.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good Evening,

ROBBY P: Thank you! I feel like I just got an "A" from the teacher! I saw your CNW box on "theBay," I hope it goes high for ya...

A zero-energy day here today... will take THAT editor her pics tomorrow....

Pushing my luck a bit, here's the Domino Sugar hopper...BOTH sides this time Dunce and even the top.

For a "half-vast" project...it didn't turn out too badly, I guess. I took a B&O hopper by Robins Rails (theBay is a great place sometimes), and tried to remove just the BeanO lettering... for a quick "down and dirty" job without having to repaint the whole thing. Well...that didn't work quite so good, so I ended up having to try and match the original gray. The only decals I could find were for a 40' Airslide...so tried to keep as much of the original data information as possible. The Rivit *** would rip me for this one...but dagnabit, I'M happy with it...

Here's a shot a guy I know got today from his porch.  Its a K&K #39 engine.  It's a Knox & Kane ex WM GP9r. The K&K is or was a tourist RR, & the loco was in an engine house fire. Supposedly it's to
go to the Georges Creek RR.

Todd..............Thanks for the comments.  I still gotta do another car.  I will work on it tomorrow.

Chris...........Thanks for the shots.  I will have to keep them in mind.  Also great looking hopper.

TODD: Hey, good to hear, and....I'd forgotten about the cath, now the "hole in her artery" thing all makes sense. I was thinking of far more dire circumstances than THAT... Yeah, you can rest easy my friendBig Smile

As for doing medical procedures in your sleep... my wife has woken to find me performing a head-tilt, chin-lift maneuver on her. Its used to open the airway on unconscious patients. It lifts the tongue out of the back of the throat (#1 airway obstruction)...and relieves SNORING...Mischief Whistling

For kicks, grins, and giggles... I'll tack up a couple shots of the CNW Airslide I was w**king on. Thanks to Oddballs Decals, it has the correct color/size herald on the side now (SoapBox Walthers...)

Maybe later I'll bring in the Domino Sugar hopper pics...

***EDIT*** Good Grief! Now how in the heck did I get the same side shot twice??? Banged Head

Chris- Thanks, she's fine. The test came back great and the heart doc explained why he wanted to do the cath "just to be absolutely positive" even though the previous tests apparently should showed all good. No mention of what the pains are from, just her ticker and arteries are all good strong and clear. Like I said there probably was, or is, nothing to worry about as far as the bleeding from the incision goes, I'm just a Nervous Nelly when it comes to her. (chuckle) the instructions were "if the bleeding starts again apply pressure and call 911. Tell them she just had a heart cath and you'd be surprised at how fast someone will get there." Comforting.

EDIT: LOL! That reminds me she said this morning that last night while I was asleep she awoke to me with my hand on her bandage like I was applying pressure but I wasn't. Laugh I guess reading about Ray's Boy Scout events has rubbed off a bit. Be Prepared!Laugh

So, I love Social Networking. I just found an old friend I'd lost touch with on Facebook.

Good afternoon all, Chloe? Flo? Zoe? whichever/whomever...a double bacon cheeseburger, basket of fries and a large Coke please and thankyou...

TODD: I would be losing what's left of my mind. Our very best wishes for you and Brenda. I'm supposin' the docs have a plan of action in mind? Hopefully sooner than later.

JEFF: You've got the extreme heat, we're finally drying out from a series of monsoons this morning. I finally got to bed around 0300. By 0400, the weather radio was going nuts, and pager tones all over the scanner upstairs for counties under T-storm warnings. 0500, we get the "send out the storm watch teams" page. 0700, we get an automatic alarm at the school. HEAVY rains (couldn't see across the street) and lightning played hell with the electronics, thus tripping the alarm, which naturally had "cleared" just before our arrival. More monsoons off and on throughout the morning, standing water in the yard, Flash Flood Warnings... Now the sun is out, and it is getting kinda warm again.

MORGAN (I think it was), on the news, I keep hearing surveliance (sp.) cameras "clearly show the gates were down/lights flashing." It's being chalked up as "a very bad decision." That's the understatement of the day. Apparently, they drove around a vehicle that was stopped...I've also heard the driver had his/her license suspended. What can ya do?

ROBBIE P: As usual, and awesome job! I remember those cars well, though it seemed like the North Yard in Cedar Rapids got more of the white ones. I'll tack up a couple shots if you want to try another one at some point...

Hey, it looks like I might have some decent light to work with...maybe I'll shoot some stuff I've been w**king on over the past couple of weeks for you-guy's amusement...

How soon you think the parents will be suing because the train wasn't cearly marked as coming?

Don't give them any ideas.

Seriously though, I feel for their families and especially for the engineer who quite probably saw their faces right before impact and will live with that vision. It is a tragedy no matter the reason.Angel  Angel

Hm. I won. If I'd really wanted it I would have lost.
