Morning, Zoe, Flo - I'll have a chocolate donut and some coffee in a D&RGW mug (oh, just the coffee in the mug, a plate'll do for the donut), please. Thanks.

Ulrich, that's great to hear on your mother's improvement! We'll keep the prayers and the thoughts coming (and for your company's approval, as well). Some days seem worse than others, but I try not to 'down' myself any more than possible on those days - just makes them feel worse, even if they aren't. And it's okay if you have something other than a RBF - unless you're developing a taste for them...Smile,Wink, & Grin

Garry, thanks for sticking up those photos - and yep, I recognize some of those buildings, all right. Have a couple or three of the RDA kits (still to be assembled). The Delaney kit included two other buildings, but was a better bargain than buying just the transfer dock part of it along.

Robby, maybe the blue ones are an 'Eastern' supplier thing - all I see around here in stores for trash bag colors is an off-white or black, but the black should work for those loads.

Lee - Murphy's law gotcha on that surprise visit, didn't he? Wink I may do the columns in aged concrete; after you said that, I was thinking about perhaps a stucco for the area between the wall columns. I'm starting to lean toward wood (maybe faded/weathered greyish) for the dock, because of the support structure looking like wood construction. I'll probably fiddle with it some once I get things put together more...

Jeff, that's a busy intersection there - nice shot (from over the gas station roof, right?).Thumbs Up

Inch, let me know how that windmill kit and the sawmill one go - I've been thinking of getting the windmill kit, and have the sawmill (unassembled).

I'll sit here at the RC and join the growing crowd.

Blessings and prayers,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Good morning all,

Had a surprise visit from the girlfriends brother and sister in law yesterday morning, I was cleaning house in my cut off shorts and the oldest tee shirt I owned.  Went to show them the layout and of course nothing worked due to dirty track (been working outside mostly).

Jim, how about aged concrete for the deck and the trim and brick read for the panels of the loading dock?

Nice industrial area you have there garry.

They put them there, it's only right they remove them. My niece's upcoming wedding is just days away.

Good morning......The suns out, and no rain in sight.

The plan today, is to "knock out" the Ann Arbor car.  I will get some shots of it later up on here.

Jim...........I read in a old MRR mag. that blue bags work as well for tarps/wrapped loads.  Maybe your grocery store has them.

Garry........Nice looking buildings.  Thats one thing my layout really don't have.  If I expand, I will add a few.

Ulrich.........Things  should get better.  Some days really "suck", but then you have some days that are "great".  I don't understand why things happen, well bad things.  When is enough, enough?

Well its 8:18am, and I better hit the basement.

I will be back in later.

JimCG. I used componants of the RDA kits as i put together some industries on my layout. You might be interested in seeing these pictures. This might give some ideas about colors.......

My brewery includes the red brick building with the sloped roof from RDA...

My vegetable canning plant includes some componants that should look familiar.

My freight warehouse is crammed into a narrow, wedge-shaped piece of real estate.

Evening, Janie, just a go cup of hot cocoa, please 'n' thankyou, ma'am.

Thanks, Robby - I wonder how small of a package of the black trash bags I can find...

Forgot who it was (Todd?) who wanted to see what my Delaney Building I'm w**king on looks like. Here's the overall view (with the building set on top of the platform assembly:

(that was taken without flash). And here's a closeup of the side of the platform assembly (done with flash):

and here's more of a 'straight-on' view of the loading dock doors:

After I looked at the top of the platform (here):

I was thinking maybe I could paint the platform top in some 'wood' color. What do you think it looks like, Diners?

Well, about time for me to head for home. See you all in the morning.

Hello everybody...

It was good of Bill T to stop in. Perhaps, he'll think about bringing donuts in the morning.

Today, I started working on a locomotive. It is to be a replica of Colorado & Southern number 700D. The C&S was a subsidiary of the CB&Q. #700D was an F7A that had been badly damaged in a wreck and sent back to EMD for rebuilding. The unit returned to the railroad looking like an F9 instead of an F7. I am using a Stewart F9 for my model.

Have a nice evening!

Jim.............Its black trash bags.  Welll just one bag, that had a piece cut off.  I stapled it to the bottom of the load, and use small pieces of wood for the "spacers".    I hope they call.  Thats GREAT pay for my area.

Vincent...........The car might look familiar, that's due to its the same car (Walthers).  I also used the same prototype picture as well.  I guess I should have picked a different picture Dunce.

I will try to get the Ann Arbor car done tomorrow, not much left on it.

  Everybody have a good night.

Bill!  Good to see you sir!  Where ya been? See your as talkative as ever......Smile,Wink, & Grin

Yeah!!, what Ray said, Bill T.! Whatcha been doing? Good to see you back in the Diner (and glad you were able to find us...).

And Ray, sounds like it's party, party, party up your way this time of year. Beats fixing dinner, eh? Smile,Wink, & Grin That's kinda funny about the forum software censoring the 'corn disease' like that. Confused Oh, man - sweet corn - yum! I think the shorter ears I have still in the fridge are sweet corn; I know that the ones I fixed from that package earlier tasted mighty sweet and tasy. Dinner

Weather here today has been... ducky, I guess. Had another split-second blip on the power around 2-ish, but this one didn't blink all the clocks like the one last night did. Of course, since then, I went to a baby shower for a couple of my friends, so that may have changed by the time I get back home.Oops It's been kinda drizzly most of the afternoon through about now. Sigh

The shower Smile was for two friends who I know from when they (and I) were attending the Sunday Singles Net (before I started leading it), probably one and a half to two years ago. They're due to have a baby boy in about a month (their first together, he has one son from previous marriage, and she has two from a previous marriage. They're w**king at making the finances cover everything - they moved to a new(er) home about a year ago (I helped them move/unload at the new place until I ran out of oomph). He works for the city of Jackson, and she's out of w**k now, but hopes to start back up after the baby boy arrives.

Barry, I'd agree with Todd on expanding your crops - though you could also grow milo, too. Smile,Wink, & Grin Turning into a regular farmer there, are ya? (or irregular...) (cue Green Acres music...) What? You haven't contacted the metal shed dealer about a 'little' addition next to the house? Wink

Todd, good to hear your wife's doing well. Thumbs Up The Delaney building is temporarily on hold, due to the humidity level today. I think from the forecast, I might have a small window of opportunity to paint stuff on Tuesday...I hope! This afternoon I got the rest of the base for the Roberts kitbash done, so I can just set the building down over the track where it goes. I do need to smooth off some edges so they're smoother and straight (mostly). I discovered that the 'concrete' window ledges on a couple of openings didn't get masked off when I sprayed the 'brick' color, so had to take my X-acto knife and scrape off the brick color. Feeling better about that one - hope to have some photos of it in the next couple/few days to post on the Diner wall. I'm beginning to like that one. I think I'll take some of my Polly S 'aged concrete' to the Roberts with a brush, maybe tonight after I get home. I may post a photo of the 'all-beige' Delaney later tonight if I find a neighbor's WiFi connection that's open...Whistling

I should be getting the "Ex-wives' Cement" company kit in this week, I think. But I have myself busy enough with current building projects, so that may be down the road a bit (so to speak).

Dang, Robby! - All Barry has to do for his limestone quarry car (from the looks of your photos) is just give it a good coating with a nice flat white! Laugh Robby, I like your wrapped load - we must've seen the same article; I'll have to try my hand on one of those. What'd you use for the black wrap material? I think the article mentioned just a regular trash bag (except mine are all a white kind of color...).That job sounds like a good possibility and pay, depending on how costs are in your area.

Inch, whose steam sawmill model/kit was that that you ordered from Hogtrainz? Couldn't find it when I went looking there, but I didn't know who made it, either.

Ulrich, sorry to hear your folks aren't doing so well. I would bet that your father appreciates your coming by to visit and help him. Will add them both to my AngelAngel list, along with your company prospects.

After I finish up dinner Dinner, I'll head for home and see if I can get something more done on the Delaney Transfer building. I'm trying to decide what to paint the loading/unloading platform on it as - it has what looks like wood-bracing in the supports underneath, so I'm not so sure it would be that way with a concrete dock. But it doesn't look like a wood dock, from the texture pattern on the top of it. Maybe I'll just post photos and let you all help me figure it out. Yeah!!

Prayers will continue for healing, comfort, job openings, and some peaceful sleep.

Blessings,

Jim in Cape Girardeau

Howdy, howdy, howdy!  A great good eveing to all of you!

I got back an hourt or so ago from the Graduation Party.  It was held over at the "Son's Of Italy" property.  Used to be an elementary school way back when at one time.  Very fitting as the family of the graduate is one of our finest Italian families in Geneva.  I have worked a good many times with the family band "All God's Children".  Always have fun around these folks and they didn't let me down today!  Lots of good food and a few hundred people.  Boccie Ball, Volleyball, and good conversation.  Doesn't seem possible that his oldest is 18 and a high school graduate.  She is a cute Italian redhead.......  Actually two of his three kids are redheads.  I also saw several of my students from years past including the aunt of the graduate who was in my first 6th. grade class I taught here in Geneva.

I sat down at a picnic table to devour my meal (out on the lawn and behind the DJ spinin' tunes) and introduced myself to a gentleman and his wife who were sitting there.  We got to talking about camping.  Turns out we both like to do winter camping.  In his case he at one time taught survival camping in the Army....  Of course my training was in Scouts.  He asked if I have done any work at the Scout Camp.....  Turns out he got started in his interest of wilderness and survival skills in his Boy Scout Troop as a Scout way back in the 60s.  My Boy Scout Troop that I was Scoutmaster of in the 90s.......   Small world sometimes. Yeah!!

The youngest brother of the graduate is still bugging me to have him over and see the model railroad, so I talked with his dad and we'll make a time for them to come over.

That is just about all I accomplished today, but I did have fun!

Well gentleman, I have reached the point where my layout will take one of two directions, which will be shaped by my parents decision:

A) a dbl. deck layout with a main and branch

B) mainline around the room with passing sidings and a staging yard, and eventually a branch.

This is all pending a talk between me and my parents about the main around the room, which is what I'll be pressing for.

Ulrich, Sorry to hear about your parents

Robby, it looks good; but for some reason that car looks familiar. Thanks to your picture, I think I finally figured out what kind of load I want to use for mine. A wrapped lumber load. I should be able to get it done tommorow if I can find something for the tarp and rope or chain.

Jeff, we had that kind of heat a few weeks ago. Now it's somewhere in the 80s.

I haven't been doing much. Apparently stuff isn't selling as well now, since only about half the stuff I listed on the unmentionable auction site actually sold, for a bit less than I was hoping.

Well the plan was to work on the Ann Arbor car, but ended up working on this bulkhead load.  I've had the car half way done, and finally finished it.

It has a custom wrapped load, and chains to hold it into place.  I think it turned out pretty good.  BUT no before shots.  I forgot to get them when I bought the car.  Dunce

 Hi Folks,

just a quick coffee with my pals here in the diner, Flo.

Went to see my parents, both being high in their 80´s. My mother is still in hospital, I was really shocked to see how fast she is going down. I am so worried - we still don´t know the cause .

Then I went to my father´s place to take care of him. After 2 strokes is is not able to do the smallest household chore, so I cooked  for him, cleaned up, did the laundry and tried to cheer him up a little.. It hurts so much to see my father weep silently. i wish I could stay with him.

I´ll be off now, have a good day!

I've got 2 rows of it about 75' long. I've got a HUGE garden according to some around here. Yeah Right. For a 60' by 160' lot---maybeWhistling

Barry, you may not get good full ears of corn, depending on the wind direction at the time the tassels begin bearing pollen.  Corn is best planted as a block.  I know you are limited in the space you have to use, but a 12' x 12' square is usually better.  It may turn out just fine depending on conditions....  You will find out in a few weeks. Whistling

Inch, I was the one who posted on the long URL issue.  In a nutshell simply type in what you want to call the link.  Such as: Train Derailment Link.  Highlight it (Train Derailment Link) then go to the icon of the link above where you are writing the message and click on it.  In the window that opens, paste the actual URL of the page you are calling Train Derailment Link where it says link URL, click on Insert, and it magically appears as a link called Train Derailment Link in your post as it does on mine.  Very simple actually.

Mornin, an irish coffee n a sweet roll Janie. Suppose to be nice sunny day here, but abit warm with high round 80. I started this post yesterday morn, but then we had a thunderstorm come through and I decided it best to shut this down, By the time it past, it was time to get ready for my family reunion. It was good to see some cousins I hadn't seen in years.

After we got home it was bout time for the fish fry over to campground A for supper. I cooked 30# fish and 10# frog legs.  I'll tell ya between the reunion an fishfry, I think I've gained 5+#.

I've been since 5 trying to do this post, but Yazee's decided grandpa needed to hold her instead. Got her sleepin for now. I love watchin babies sleep and the smiles while their talking with angels. I think some of them are telling funny stories, cause it looks like she's trying to laugh at times.

Been an interesting RR week round here, I found out Mon, there's been a derailment in Casey over the weekend. Near as I've figured out, it was on one of Hussinga's grain sidings.

Then there was a derailment of hopper cars in storage on INRD tracks.

To top the week a CSX train was stopped to search for illegal immigrants,

DER or DUKE or who ever it was there posted the trick, for long addresses' before the last dinner was sadly scraped. Please do it again.

MRR' ing time has been slim the last week, other than runnin trains some. I order a Woodland Scenes windmill and a steam powered sawmill [that I'd hadn't been able to find] from an inter-net outfit I'd found out about, http://www.hogtrainz.com/index.html . Ordered last Sunday n got it yesterday. Prices weren't bad including the shipping.

I've got get done with this post, I keep getting interrupted.

Enjoyed all the photos you folks been postin and the progress updates. Keep'em comin.

ULRICH,, still hopen you can get the work thing going.  And you too ROBBY, the warehouse job sounds purrty good.

Really gotta go now, the washers acting up and I just got that dreaded look from Mother. Thoughts for all those in need  n hope ya'll has a gooden

Oh, Ray, you know summat about our lovely corn, eh?Smile,Wink, & Grin

When I was a kid I learned the secret is in that stuff that my dad piled out back of the barn.  It consisted of ... ah... stuff he took out of the pen stabling.  Anyway you let that "stuff" rot down and cure for about 6 months and it becomes exactly the right, ah..., "stuff" to mix in the soil prior to planting.  I actually had to buy about a dozen bags of the "stuff" for my garden this year.........  Oh and when you pick the corn, make sure you have a pot of boiling water already on the stove.  Husk the corn and right into the water!  It will be very, very sweet as the sugar in the corn won't have a chance to turn into starch.  Oh yeah, sweet corn!  I do know about sweet corn! Big Smile  In season I'll have it about 3 times a week.......  We used to sell vegies at a farm stand when I was a kid.  25¢ a dozen for corn (we usually threw in an extra ear just in case one had something wrong with it).  Back then we put in Seneca Chief, and a couple other varieties and sold it for about a month.  We would make $4 or $5 on some days and split it among my sisters and I.  Thought we were rich, we did!

I haven't grown it here in my garden in several years as my soil has the corn sm>t (fungus) in it (gotta love the censoring program...)  and I usually don't get a good crop.  My garden is small anyway.  If I had a couple acres of land out in the country, you can bet I would be growing it! I have 3 varieties of squash in (zucchini, yellow summer squash, and a winter variety) beans, peppers, and some "sport" potatoes that I decided to let grow.  No room for much more.  In the fall I will plant some fall crops (lettuce, radishes, and a couple others?).  I also have an herb garden (oregano, mint, basil, chives, and sage) and my asparagus bed.

Today: Sunny, with a high near 77. West wind between 7 and 11 mph.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 59. Northwest wind around 10 mph.

Time to clean house, then clean the layout room and track in preperation for the open house....
