Catch everybody tomorrow, and I will get some shots of the hopper up as well.
"Rust, whats not to love?"
JimRCGMOBarry, careful there so you don't lose the 'having fun' part of the hobby. It may be that the reason you noticed the trucks not matching, was that it's your layout, so you see them more often (and therefore are more likely to notice them than your visiting friend would). Now me, I'd have to go dig up a book or online site to tell what kind of trucks are on (or should be on) a freight car (let alone on a passenger car).
Funny thing is ---HE usually NOTICES these things before I do!
I've decided to call it a day on these cars. I ended up getting 55 cars done so at least I'm about 30% done---heeheehee Everybody in this place be sittin' out back---I love wireless I get to use the laptop while I'm out here listening to the robins. 'Spring' is by the screen door watching over us and picking at the door every so often. We've placed a plexi panel that stands up to 5.5' up so he can't climb the screen--the little monkey does climb the drapes in the living room every so often

We too do the laying on of hands by the (we call them) Sponsors, though not on Pentecost. About 2 or3 weeks ago I believe. For some reason, and until you mentioned it I hadn't realized, but for the last couple years we haven't had sponsors. I wonder why. Hm, maybe it's the Pastors call in Methodist. Don't know I'll have to ask, that is if I remember.

Barry, I both used my thumbnail and my hobby knife to scrape stubborn paint off. my GP9 barely soaked, but it has been for a while now, so should be easier to get the paint off.
Evenin' all. Got any more of those Apple Turnovers? You have one left? Great, I'll take it and a glass of milk please.
Yard is mowed. Garage is cleaned up from door project. Graduation party has been attended. Todd is tired.
Chris- Learn and play with mushrooms? I wish I could have been there.
Jim- It's easier to add more weathering later,(if it's YOU that thinks so) than to erase now. Looks real good to me. I'm envious of your first try, but not in a bad way of course. I'm very happy for you. You have a real good looking fleet ahead of you I can tell.
NSJoe- Good start on the website I'll be visiting often so keep it up.
Tom(Uff-dah and Spooky's dad)- I'm not a fan of the newer music the Methodists use either. I like the songs they sang when I was growing up. There are also a few, oh I can't think what they're called, Praises I guess? We used to sing, short little ditties, that we don't anymore. I find I'm not alone among the "older set". I guess we are just getting old. The good news is the food at the diner is okee dokee with any diet. And here (slides a cold one under the table) this won't hurt you either!
Oh and Barry, you do know that KD couplers are slightly larger than scale don't you? (hehehehehe. Couldn't resist since you are in the land of Aaargh)

That's OK Barry. I saved you a place up here at the (Rivet) Counter by me..........
Got the outhouses (his and hers) assembled painted, and lightly weathered tonight. Have an idea for a "interesting scene" with them. They will be placed behind (actually to the side) of Miller's Bed and Breakfast on the layout.
It is already in the low 40s here in Geneva. Very cool for this time of year, but not unheard of either. Looks like I won't get the porch sealing finished until Thursday looking at the projected forecast, but may get the garden planted on Tuesday (I hope!).
Tomorrow I am taking some equipment over to school for the High School Choral teacher to borrow so she can have kids practice with mics for graduation. Graduation is actually the last live sound gig I will do. I am going to finish the work already contracted and on the books, and that is it.
My cats are chasing each other around the house and wrestling right now. Good to see them still playing at 8 years of age........ The cat next door is half the size of mine and is 18 years old. The neighbor tells me that last week she brought home a chipmunk she had caught, and a few days earlier had killed a huge rat that she proudly brought home to show mommy and daddy. She can still jump close to 8 feet in the air and take down a bird in flight. Quite the hunter, she is!
Hope you all have a good night. My prayers for those in need!

Seriously on this prototypical stuff. The longer I'm in this little venture we lovingly call a hobby, the more I do want things to be accurate. I don't think I'll achieve the lofty levels as some, but some things I would change now that I wouldn't before. But I'm not in an all fired hurry to do it nor do I refuse to put it on the rails by golly.
BUT, I will never, never, never run someone down because they don't do things the way I do. Never. By the way when did the brake wheels go low? NO!!!! Stop that!

That sounds like the main character in a 50/60's movie, " The Hands of Orlach" where a pianist gets injured and the hands of a deceased murderer get transplanted on to his arms----goes through the rest of the movie basically putting his hand down after it tries to kill someone---"now, now, nice hand ---don't want to hurt anyone---"

Sawyer: Substitute the knife with a toothbrush, either a plastic one you can scrape with the edge of either end, or one with the tongue cleaner. If your dentist is like mine, yuo likely have them out your ears and won't miss one. The Knife can (I've done it) knick the shell. (Whoops! And you get a nice gash on the loke)

I think I saw THAT movie.
Ran some trains tonight. Missed throwing a switch and found out the benefit of DCC. Had to back up both trains to put the switching engine back. I'm still to cheap (or poor) to switch from DC though. I'll put it on my list. I want to do quite a few more things first.
I have to get my spot in bed before the dog shows up. Prayers for those in need.

How about Mineral Red with a silver roof for your cars? Reason I mention that is because it was the color scheme that SP used on their MOW equipment back in the 'fifties, and it looked VERY cool! I remember an MOW train parked in the Truckee River Canyon near Boca for about a month when I lived up there, and several of the cars were the older wooden closed-vestibule Pullman Palace cars. They still looked ready to roll on the "Overland."
It's a really cool paint scheme, IMO.

Chilly 50F outside this morning.Sawyer, the locomotives look good, what is the one in the rear? Looks like a first generation unit. This morning I was greeted with: What movie are we going to see this Friday? Last Friday we saw Star Trek, and the Friday before that we saw Terminator. Both good movies IMO. Both days we had the theater to ourselves it was like a private screening a sign of the economy? OK well tonight friends are stopping over to dig up some volunteer tomato plants that have sprung up in the garden. I guess they are leftovers from last year, about 15 plants over 2” tall need to go. Saturday I transplanted 3 clumps of black eyed Susan’s and a large box of hostas. That should do the front flower beds well. Trying to plant stuff to crowd out the weeds and make the flower bed low maintenance. Lee

Got some dull clouds with showers---one just went through, monsoonish---and the possibility of those t'undering boomers again. High of 20C with the low of 8C tonight--if it clears up enough. Tomorrow will present us with a mix of sun/cloud and a high of 18C.

I'd agree with that combination. I'm teasing that idea for my shortline except mine would be a little lighter in shading I think---then I'd have to get a compressor for my airbrush instead of trying to this with a little air cannister. I can see this efort of spray painting 70 lokes with how many of those dang little bottles of air?---
Todd-That was one weird movie. Oh, and didn't Dr Strangelove have something of the same issue? They really needed to keep their hands busy--

I got the day off today so I'll be getting some wheelsets done on the rolling stock. I discovered that some of the trucksides were not even corresponding to anything around here or anything even close to an actual published design so I'm wondering where'd these sides actually came from? European trucks on a Reading magnetite hopper? HMM--chin stroking time--HMM

Good morning. It's 64 and partly cloudy. The high should be around 90 and it will be partly cloudy. Finally got the tools and debris cleared off the layout yesterday so maybe I can get down to some running of the trains later. I have to mow my sisters yard this morning as there's rain due for the next couple of days. I'll probably be going to Alexandria later to raid Hobby Lobby. The LHS isn't open on Monday. I will try to finish up the hopper today. Not much more to do to it. I will post pictures later today.
Maybe clean up a bit, and thats about the day for me.
I will get some pictures later, and everybody have a good day.
jguess733 I just stamped my foot told her it was my railroad and I'll do what I want, and if she doesn't like it she can't play with my trains, then I threw myself on the floor and started kicking my feet
An appropriate response I must say, IMHO.
Good morning one and all. Let's all turn towards the door, stick our tongues out and put our thumbs in our ears waving our fingers like moose horns. I just know PC and Ryan are peeking in here.
Welp, (a Midwestern pronunciation of the word "well" when used to introduce a remark), after bookwork for the church I'll be heading to Harbor Freight (I thought it was "i" before "e" except after "c". ) which we are either lucky or unlucky to have in Springfield, depending on your point of view. I have heard enough about these airbrushes for less than $20. They brought them up again in Sawyers thread about airbrushes, so I've decided to give one a whirl. I've got all I need as far as the compressor and water filter/separator goes. I'll probably need to adapt things down a bit, but that's minor. So I say, why not. Uncle Sammy came through with the paycheck thanking me, in small part, for my service to him today SO!..... I'm off to buy something made in China.
Spotty weather today nothing suppose to be severe. Probably rain this afternoon. Whoever wrote "Rainy Days and Mondays" for the Carpenters, obviously didn't lead my life.
Have a Great Day!

Ya know, I see so many movies,( mostly on TV because of the cost of an evening at the movie house and I don't think they clean the seats of the place any better than the floor), I come in after the begining many times and never know what the name of the movie is or just plain forget. I usually remember scenes and stuff but the names, nope, not a clue. Last night I started to watch a movie I've been wanting to see for a while now, The DaVinci Code. After a few minutes I realized, I'd already seen it. I watched some of it then fell asleep, the problem is I couldn't remember what was going to happen so I assumed I'd only seen up to a point. But I kept seeing things I'd seen before, so now, I still don't know if I've seen the whole thing. Ah a day in my life is always an adventure. Even if I've done it before.
Boy we've got some talent on this forum and in this diner. WPF is outstanding AGAIN!!
Mornin' everyone!
Another cool, cloudy day here in the Finger Lakes. Currently 55°F with a high of 66°F this afternoon. Looks like some showers may come this way as well in the afternoon.
I have to get going and go set up a small mixer and some mics for the High School Choral director to use for practice.

Todd you may have that disease, ah, you know, What's his Names Disease. Al somebody. The best part of the disease is that you get to meet so many new people every day. Your wife, your children, your doctor, the nurses, etc........ No I sure hope you don't have that one! Probably just Deja Vous all over again.
Ah, Flo, my coffee! Just in time, I was about ready to doze off here again.
Later folks!
BTW, where is PC? Has he gone among the missing? Hopefully just out riding those sweet wheels he got.
Good Morning, Zoe - I'll have a #2 special, scrambled, wheat toast with blackberry jam (yum!), glass of Ed's OJ, and a cup of coffee in a Santa Fe mug, please 'n' thankyouma'am!
Had a little trouble getting to the posting page, but not sure if that was the forum software or our connection at w**k. It's working now, and that's the important thing, right?
Morgan, good job on the paint stripping. Looks like the 70 percent does its stuff fine!
Barry, I think it's okay to take a break after all 55 of those wheelsets. Last Monday, I was getting tired after about 4 sets on some club cars (and, we ran out of replacement wheels). Got to pace yourself, so you don't run out of things to do next weekend, right?
Lee, there ya go - take Dorothy to the movie two weekends in a row, and you have set what we call a 'precedent'... Are there more movies good enough to go see? I haven't been keeping up with what's on at the theatres (other than our one cineplex that puts the titles out front doesn't have anything interesting to me).Hey, good idea on the flowerbeds (crowding out the weeds). Now, if only I could get something to grow (and continue to grow) in the big clay pot out on my deck..
Jason, I don't think you could go wrong with either the Mineral Red or the Pullman Green (with the silver roof). I know that the Santa Fe heavyweights in the 1950's used the silver roofs on their green ones, FWIW. Besides, it's your RR, right? As for Firefox, I use it 99 percent of the time on my Macs (Safari the other 1 percent).
Okay, Todd, now that I've done the "Moose Salute", can I start on my breakfast? Let's see if that jars our missing Diners into coming back. Thanks for the suggestion on the weathering. I had heard that when you spray over the chalks, they tend to disappear (to some degree), but can somebody tell me about how much does that amount to?
Today would be a good day for getting outside, if that's where PC is. Get a good breeze across ya - with the temps supposed to hit 90 (F) today, any breeze will be welcome. Glad we have the A/C at w**k today.
I'll join Barry at the corner booth with my breakfast.
Blessings and prayers,
Jim in Cape Girardeau
Nope, not outside Jim........stuck in my office!
Ray- To the diner, have breakfast on me and tell us a bit about yourself. Luckily my memory is doing well, but like Todd my brain is so full of stuff everytime it takes a while to find it. I have recall, it's just not instant.
Jim- Not to butt in but...I've heard the same thing about the chalks. I haven't tried them yet so I'll be experimenting also. Problem is once the Dull-Cote is applied there is no going back so to speak.
Todd- Good luck with the airbrush purchase I hope it does well. And that moose salute was silly.
Good Morning all..Its sunny and 77 here posta hit the mid 80's with some storms latter...I'll have coffee and a sweet roll please...Thank you..Visiting nurse came this morning good news! She say leg looks good and I can take bandage off..Humid weather is gonna keep me in today so maybe I'll work on a couple of 2 bay hoppers from rehab box..hope to get them in service hauling coal on the I&S...You all have a good one...Jerry
So much for the weather guys guess at 76F outside today, it’s 56F and raining now.Todd, the Harbor Freight $20 airbrushes (centaury tools?) are great air brushes but they use a non-standard bottle. I spent the extra $20 on a Badger so I could use the popular bottles.Yea I know I set precedence on going to the movies, but in my defense this was the first time in a while there was two decent movies playing in the same month.Jeff, what bones do they want to remove from your foot? The Doc would have to really sell it to me to get me to do it, or the benefit would have to be substantial. Don't take me the wrong way its your foot and I’m no doctor, but I hope it all works out for you.Lee
Good Midday diners! Well, the weekend held much for me. I got to get the shower/tub surround installed at our house. The wife got sent to the day spa (told her to treat herself, besides, she hasn't done much for herself recently). Went and saw Night At the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, and I'll have to say that movie was HILARIOUS! I almost rolled on the floor in the literal sense a few times. Other than that, I did go swimming at our pastor's pool Sunday afternoon, that was a blast. Got to goof off and played a little "tackle a guy into the pool" (don't ask). Other than that I spent the weekend resting up.
I'll have a RBF, along with a hot ham and cheese with an order of fries please ma'am. I have been thinking about my rolling stock recently and I'm wondering what I can do about the wheel/trucksets on mine, I've got some cars that are fairly recent cars, but they're running on old journal box trucks, so I guess that I just need to get some modern trucksets and replace them. Especially since my modelled time period is "today"
LSWrrTodd, the Harbor Freight $20 airbrushes (centaury tools?) are great air brushes but they use a non-standard bottle. I spent the extra $20 on a Badger so I could use the popular bottles.
I'm thinking of taking it the extra step and just going and getting/finding a compressor. I'm using bottles now but I'm finding some that aren't all that good when it comes to maintaining constant pressure Then i get splatters or dribble effects or some other quibble. Which Badger did you get?
