Good Morning People--

Temperature right now sits at 14C with the high going to 22C. We're expecting some more rain today with the chance of those t'undering boomers  coming along to keep us alert. Tomorrow will be for more of the same with the high of 20C.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mark: I'd be taking my time looking for one that works for me. Either one of the Epiphones sounds good though but check around, there's always something that'll knock your socks off. In my case, the SG was what I got( 1966 Gibson SG) as a birthday present decades ago---it just keeps feeling better every time I play it. That was a piece of luck at the time---otherwise I'd be on the hunt.

Garry: Yes, you would've gone right by it then. Once you leave Ingersoll the CN line goes and actually bisects the quarry just past there. There is a subway that passes under the mainline there right before you go under the conveyor system that bridges between the two center mill parts. It would be a hoot to try to model that----you'd need a warehouse if you did every last part of it---

JohnDer: Saw the video---Have to wonder though. Was the cat's real name Garfield by any chance?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, have a couple of clients to see this afternoon and some fiddlework at home for the office this morning----

Chloe, I'll have a coffee and a egg on a muffin please-----I'll be by the window booth watching some switching----

It´s early afternoon and I just drop in for a late lunch - that´ll be coffee and some of them good lookin´muffins you have there, Chloe!

Barry - did not reckon your from London, Ontario. My parents had their immigration papers ready in late 1955 with a job right there for my father. Blame it on me, but as soon as my Mom found out she´s pregnant, they´d stopped that leaving Germany issue and stayed on until today. Both of them are wayyyy over 80 now (and do regret to have remained in Germany).

Well, off I am again - see you tomorrow!

Mornin' (afternoon to some) coffee and a blueberry muffin please. Supposed to rain again today. Yeesh.

I piddled around with some stuff yesterday and never did get anything painted with said airbrush. I'm itching to do something but I should really get some 90% alcohol first and try to do it right.

I see we have some new photos on the wall! Some nice weathering, some proto shots for ideas, some of our four legged members of the families, another calender page photo and of course some Aaaaawwwww photos (the ones that are legal to brag about. Right Ray?). Great stuff guys, keep ‘em coming you're really starting to spruce the place up.Thumbs Up

DerJohn- Thanks, I thought I'd heard someone use the Folk Art or Plaid whatever it's called. You betcha it'll be cheaper, I don't need RR colors for most things I‘m going to use it for.

RT- glad to see you found us!

Ulrich- Good luck today at the banks. Hand laying tracks? Ho boy!

Jeff- Glad to hear your Mom can now voice her opinion. Say, I was just thinking. Last night at about oh 7:00 our time, was it thunder I heard or did someone make a comment about your Mothers hair?Whistling

Mark- Both guitars are great guitars. Both have their sound and it's pretty much personal preference. Personally I would go for the SG only because you have a Les paul (so to speak). Some may say in the learning stage two different necks may hamper your learning, I don't subscribe to that but other opinions may vary. Sorry to hear your Fender experience was a bad one. For electrics I am a fender guy myself (I like all brands I just prefer Fender) So I'm disappointed to hear you got a poor one. Most Fenders are put together real well though I'm not familiar with the model you have. For acoustics I have a Martin D-28. Not the fanciest but a good well made great sounding guitar. May I suggest after your electric purchase you begin putting away for an acoustic. I'm sure you won't be disappointed and you'll find they are more "portable" I guess you'd say than an electric. Stairway To Heaven sounds just as good on an acoustic as it does on an electric without the need for cables, amps and electricity. When the time comes I'm sure that there are a few of us that can help you pick one that won't drain the white blood cells from your body trying to pay for the thing. Some can get quite expensive.

I don't want to give the impression I am some great guitarist, THAT I ain't. I just play for my own amusement and sometimes I make myself want to walk out of the room Laugh. Some of these other guys however....

Lee- I'm glad the wind is predominantly from the west. P-U! Laugh

Welp, best get a move on.

Have a Great Day!

Mornin' y'all.  I'll have biscuits and gravy and a tall glass of milk.  Did nothing on the RR front (unless you call looking into the container to see how the paint's coming off my GP40-2 soaking in alcohol counds).  Did work on the house and got the hallway 100% ready for primer and paint, got the last peice of wall in the bathroom ready for paint and then it'll more or less be ready to have the floor dropped into place.  Also got the 2 acres around the house cut (that's the yard, actually have 22.5 acres of land, but the rest see's the bush hog and tractor).  Yeah, busy weekend for me.  Yesterday I went to church, went out to lunch with friends then went home and got hit with a little bit of a problem.

I got home, a friend of our's that's going through a divorce (papers filed, they've gone separate ways, just gotta get the paperwork finalized and the to whom the kids are saying with taken care of) came over and I guess she expected us to just listen to what she's saying and not hold her accountable for some of her actions and not care about what she's doing.  All-in-all there is currently a 28 year old woman running around down here calling herself and adult, yet acting like a 14 year old ARGH!

Sorry to rant y'all, but I didn't even see a pillow to 1:30 this morning and then was back up and at 'em at 6:15, so I'm a little short on the fuse and tact section today.  I'm going to go inhale my breakfast in the corner and watch the trains.

Lee - that must be some potent mulch.  I thought some odd aroma was wafting on the breeze this morning..... The ocean kind of holds up the western breezes once they hit the shoreline here.

Jeff - Prayers to your Mom that she keeps improving.  Sometimes attitudes are a good thing for survival.  My Mom gave up after the second week.......

Chloe, Iced tea, unsweetened please. Yes, we drink it that way up here! Gonna be warm here today (80) .

Ulrich - my grandparents came to New Jersey  from Dresden after the first war, papers in hand.  My mother was born 8 months later.....  Grandpa (a junior vice president) had job transfer papers to the American office of his company.  The New York branch refused to accept them because he was a German soldier in the war, as if he had a choice.  He even signed papers swearing his allegience to the USA and renouncing any political association with Germany.  During the second war his shortwave license was revoked and his radio confiscated by the US government even though he had been a citizen for almost 20 years at that point.  Man worked as a cook for the rest of his life.......

Slow work day, hope I stay out of trouble....

Eric, I hope that I can do the same today.  I think that even though I'm already hiding in my office, I'm going to possibly just crawl up under the desk and take a napZzz.  Oy, I know that I could use one.

Ulrich--My father came over here in 1955 without my mother so he could get work and get a good place to raise me. My mother and I came over in 1957 when I was 2 years old. We basically lived in Hamilton ON then moved to Woodstock ON---My father came from Saxony ( Erzgeberge region(sp?)), my mother came from Dresden.

Mornin' everyone!

Another gray, dreary day here in the Finger Lakes.  Currently 64°F with a high of 70°F this afternoon.  They have been promising some showers for two days now.......  Guess I'll go out and water the garden and make it rain.Grumpy

My son from Chicago will be arriving in town next Friday so I should probably shovel out and hose down the house a bit in anticipation of the event.  He is coming home for his niece's 2nd. birthday next Saturday.  He and his partner will be staying for a week (renting a lake front cottage just out of town).  We plan on doing some family history research while they are here and we will be going over to the R&GV Museum for the Hysterical Society June Meeting to ride some trains......Big Smile  The museum is at Industry ,NY and my Great Grandfather was a carpenter there for many years before buying a farm in the Canandaigua area.  Matt is trying to get a tour of the grounds...........  He has also been trying to get access to sealed records of my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother on my Mother's side of the family.  (Just medical stuff, my great grandfather was an alcoholic who ended up in an "institution" and his wife was epileptic so was also institutionalized.  That was how they handled anyone who was "different" back then.  Some of the things they did to epileptics to "cure" them resemble certain kinds of torture..... Their 7 children were taken away and each put in a separate home.)

Zoe, I'll have a couple of eggs over easy with a side order of ham, and wheat toast.  Oh!  Dark Roast Java in a R&GV Mug.  Thank you!

Lee, I was wondering what the "aroma" was here this morning.  Thought somebody had cleaned out the pen stabling...........Whistling

I'll be in the front booth watching them switch some cars.

Hmm.....brakes, essentially a "gravy" job from the standpoint of doing the work.  Minimal effort (relatively), maximum profit.  Sorry, my auto-repair mind kicked in there for a moment.  What kinda vehicle are we braking Robby?  If I were closer, I could/would offer to do the work for ya, but since you're up there in PA-land, and I'm down here, no dice.  I wish that the next 1/2 hour flies by, I'm kinda ready to do the lunch thing....

Bama...........Its a 2005 Dodge Neon.  The neighbor said he would do it for free, but the car needs back tires, and a inspection.    I know I would save by buying the rotors, and brakes, but I just wanna make sure its all done right.

Thats one of the few things I won't touch on a car.  Dunce

Those would be a cinch to do.  Last time I did a Neon was brakes all the way around, rotate the tires, and even got the passenger's side cv shaft replaced, all in about 3 hours (which is about 1.5 hours less than what the "book" says).  Charged the customer $115 in labor (when I do work for others, unless its family, its $35 an hour, which is still less than any shop in my area) and he was happier than a tornado in a trailer park.  Of course I've also done more than my fair share of "thank you" work for people to, and I really don't mind working on cars, but there are times that I'd really prefer to get paid for it.  Oh well, brake jobs are simple, and really I normally won't charge to do a brake job, unless I have to get into replacing wheel bearings, or components other than the pads/shoes, or rotors/drums.

I thought Robby was getting the breaks inspected on the new covered hopper so it wouldn’t roll off the table, LOL!

I have an F-250, the rotors are “disposable” rings, 3 flat head machine screws and the old come off.  The pads are just as easy since the caliper rotate up and poof they are changed.

Out here there are 8 auto repair shops literally right next door to each other so they only charge $21/hour.  Finaly someone had the bright idea to open a parts store in the middle of the shops.

That's pretty nice Lee, and if they only charge that little per hour there's probably a good chance that they will also trade jobs with one another, so to speak.  I know around here the average labor is $65/hour, so with me charging $35, I'm still beating the shop by $30/hour.

 Morning all!

Football camp starts today. Should be hard work, but it should be fun as well.

Barry: Sounds like you got a good guitar. Epiphone has a couple vintage 1966 SG versions, but they're out of my price range, which is $200-$300.

Todd: Yeah, the Starcaster is Fender's knock off of their Stratocaster. It looks just like one, but the quality isn't that great... I've already had to put a new string on, and I've had to re-screw the amp cable reciever on twice.

I'm leaning towards the SG as of now, mostly because I play a lot of AC/DC and I have a Les Paul at my dad's house.

Mornin all. Black coffee please. I've had a busy morning. Got up at 0600 to change the oil in the wife's car, and give my truck a brake job. Now I'm off to work. I got my order from M.B. Klien in the mail the other day. Spectrum undec. modern 4-4-0. Now I need to find some cars to pull behind it. I'm thinking either a couple of Labelle 1905 coach's or the Bethlehem Car Works Colorado and Midland passenger cars. Does anyone know anything about these two kits, pro's/con's? Thanks guys.

Sounds like a plan, Jeff.  I'm going to shoot an email off to MB Klein this afternoon and ask them if they would be able to source all the stuff I need for my GP40-2 to them, I'd happily pay full price for the items as long as I can single-source the parts.  I guess that it never hurts to ask.  If they can't looks like there will be orders going to Microscale, MB Klein, Cal-Scale, Details West, and Athearn...

I'll have a RBF and sit in the corner window, watching the trains play in the sun.

Jeff,  tell us what that grey coupe is just to the left of the second track. Is it a 49 to 51 Mercury??

I just came from Wally World and purchased four Johnny Lightning  cars.  They are a little on the large size, but will work close to the edge for "Forced Perspective" dontcha know.   They are a 55 Crown Victoria,  50 Olds super 88 coupe,  a 53 Buick Super Convertible, and a 79 Chrysler Town & Country "woody" wagon.

At a Buck a piece who cares if they arn't 1/87..

I'm glad Mom is coming around for you.

Afternoon guys.

Tom: Nice SP locos.

John: Have you seen the follow up picture I did of the AMTK 4449? Namely, an actual 3D HO varient? I do still need to do somethign with the mechanism.

By the way: On theair/rattlecan, the above is a rattlecan, cept for the skyline casing, which was laready like that. How's it look?

I've tried 2 different airbrushes, adededupwiththesame results. Paint oozing out of every gap on the brush except the end nozzle, or a splatter coming out the nozzle along with the above results. Meanwhile, a can is simple to use, works in much the same way, is easier to clean, and gives me good results. I have more problems with my masking and careless errors than I do with the actual painting. I'll admit the color choices are more limited. But I csn do all I need. And thanks to Scalecoat putting out their paints in sprays, I can do more.

To add to the effect, I'm doing some painting for Naptown. They're almost insisting that I use an airbrush. So, we'll see what happens.

 Afternoon folks!

My plan to get it to rain worked.  Aboiut an hour and a half ago I went outside and watered the garden.  We are getting a nice soaking steady rain here which Weather, com calls "showers in the area"......Whistling

Been working around the house doing a couple of things.  Managed to find the stored boxes of family historical documents my son Matt wants to get his hands on, so he will be a happy camper when he gets here the end of the week.  Also have been finishing what I can on the last section of scenery that needs to be done before i have the layout judged for Merit Points.  I have a couple hundred dollars worth of extra details for the layout on order that should be arriving the end of the week.  It will feel good just to get the layout done to the point it has to be for the judging.  Then I will get to work on the paperwork, photos, and other stuff........  Including making the appointment to be judged.

I guess I'll sit at the Rivit Counter and finish my decafe then get back to w**k around here.....

Catch you all later!

Evening Gang!

Why is it that everytime I come by, the Diner has moved to a new siding??? Anyways, nice location. Does it get much traffic by it???

Not much new and exciting ehre. I was shocked though a few days ago when I was at my LHS and found out fromt eh owner that Boley is getting out of the HO Scale. That's a big bummer for me. I like their trucks and now I'm scrambling to get all that I want for my fleet of construction and fire vehicles before they become non-existant.

Well, have a good evening and I'll try to come by more often!

Take care!

That's a Talba Lago. It's a lowered cut-down 49 Mercury. Hot Wheels markets it as 'Purple Passion'.

My father and I went to Dairy Queen for dinner this evening as neither of us felt like cooking anything. When we pulled up in the parking lot we could both smell something like hot roofing tar. I looked around and saw smoke coming from under the car next to us. While my father moved his car out of harms way I went inside and notified the owner of the other car. She came out and we both checked the car over. The smoke was coming from under the rear (old model Diplomat). I looked underneath and could see that the smoke was coming from the differential and told her she'd better arrange for a ride home. In the state it was in it would probably catch fire if she were to drive it again. It looked to me as is the gear oil had dried up over the years. That thing was so hot I wasn't about to touch it. We watched it for a bit to make sure it wasn't going to burst into flames then got on with our intended purpose.

 Good Evenin',

Chloe, Flo, Janie...whichever, whomever...I'll take a bacon cheeseburger with fries and a Coke...over at the Rivet Counter please and thank-you.

I think I just punched my ticket for the Rivet Counter, again. I'm working on a McKean boxcar (Great Northern 50' modern ACF), and after looking at pics of the prototype...I'm now applying the knife, and styrene strips to get the sidesills looking "right." I also disliked the McKean draft gear so badly, I hacked off part of it, and stuck on Walther's extended draft gear coupler boxes instead. I also need to replace the "lube plate" with an older double box style, add a "ACI" sticker, and probably have to cobble-up a wheel inspection sticker too.

Then, there's Rerun's new boxcar, an Athearn PS 5344 boxcar, CNW in ex-Rock bankruptcy blue. I ended up adding the long handrail across the ends, and making end platforms out of scraps of roofwalk; since for all of the other details, Athearn somehow neglected these. Now however, having done all THAT...I need to go find all of the other PS 5344's, and "upgrade" them! Banged Head

Soooooo, THATs why I'll just go sit myself down at the Rivet Counter for a spell...
