Hey John: I betcha you don't have problems picking up CBC French. It's the one channel regardless where I am when I'm at sea I can pick up. Figure that one out.

Good Morning, we didn't get frost on our island, must be the "warm" sea! You've got that one right about the FCBC, clear as a bell!
QUOTE: John: It's looking real good and I hope to see it one of these days (soon).

Just give us a call, and enough time to run the track cleaner around a bit!
Big Brother returns today for a birthday bash[bday]. This is the first time we've celebrated his birthday since we were kids (oops, we were never that, I meant children[:D]). So we've put balloons on the mail box and we've got a cake and sparklers, hamburgers for the BBQ, the whole 9 yards. (It will be getting dark by hamburger time, so I'll have to rig up an outside light to see what I'm doing[X-)] [C=:-)] [(-D])

I forgot to say that just before Bob arrived on his visit, we had a container ship in at the port.

Since we are in full mock up mode, the containers on the dock are blocks of wood painted with whatever paints were handy the morning of Bob's visit![8D]
At $6+ Canadain for the "rreal" thing, I'm sticking with these for a while[:D]

Ed:
QUOTE: Hey John, nice work with the mock-ups!!! And much faster than me too! I don’t remember seeing shots of your layout before, so that was nice too.

Thanks Ed, and thanks again for the foam idea. I see that I'm not the only one unable to cut straight, makes me feel better![:I] [:o)] [:D]
There are photos of the layout at http://www.railimages.com/gallery/johnwood I must go in there sometime I've stopped procrastinating here and tidy up some of the stuff into more subalbums. [B)]
QUOTE: It was a good game, I enjoyed watching the Yankees lose. When I saw that ball in the 7th I thought to myself, “Boy, that was sure close to the foul pole”. Think that’s the first time I’ve seen that happen.

QUOTE: The BBC produced excellent dramas and documentaries also. I can’t speak to how the BBC is these days, but they used to be way up there in my estimation.

We see some of the fairly recent stuff. The production values are terrific. They "get it right" in so many ways, and the casting is usually superb. It seems they have a large stable of excellent tallent from which to draw, so that even small parts are played by first rate actors.

I credit Mikey Gaw [;)] with providing a link in another thread to Rodney Dangerfield's death. However the link is very long and would stretch out the page so I will just copy and paste a few paragraphs about him.

LOS ANGELES - Rodney Dangerfield (news), the bug-eyed comic whose self-deprecating one-liners brought him stardom in clubs, television and movies and made his lament "I don't get no respect" a catchphrase, died Tuesday. He was 82.

Dangerfield, who fell into a coma after undergoing heart surgery, died at 1:20 p.m., said publicist Kevin Sasaki. Dangerfield had a heart valve replaced Aug. 25 at the University of California, Los Angeles, Medical Center.

He had recovered from the coma but had experienced a stroke from the surgery. There were also some other complications. [:(] [V] [:(]

I agree! I've spent more time in the last 9 months I've been on here on here than in the 5 years I've had a layout on the layout. It's amazing how much time you can waist reading threads like the one your reading!

Well stop working so well! We want the Packers to have a winning season this year ya know. Now the Yankees, feel free to jinks them all you please. My veiw of the playoffs? I'm rooting for anybody who's not a Yankee.

Well, had an early release day today from school, so I'm trying to make the best of it. should get going soon, as I need to make some money raking leaves. I still find it hard to belive it's time to go raking once again, seems like I just finnished shoveling snow!

Also been drawing up plans for a few of the buildings on the re-done section of the layout. My game plan is this: first, I plan on going to the scratch building buildings clinic at the local NMRA division meet this Sunday, perfect timing, huh? Then comes first a small project, just scratchbuilding a farmhouse, and then I'll move onto the monsterious (sp?) paper building for my new industry. It'll be about 19 by 16inches when done. Then I plan on buying a commercial kit to use for the new plastics molding company. I may modify it slightly, but not a whole lot. well, better get going so I can earn some money to finance the list. See you all later!

[edit] Just got a letter from Bergie that I made photo of the day!

I had a problem combing my dog, a Maltese (long flowing white fur). He'd always growl, bare his teeth, and snap when I tried to comb him. After reading a book on wolf/dog body language, I realized he was saying "I think I can take you in a fight". The answer to that is to bare your teeth and not growl. You're saying "I KNOW I can take you in a fight." He still snaps now, but just at the comb. He knows he's in big trouble if he gets my fingers.

Tom: Could you e-mail me I have a small package for Bob that he left behind and I think he would like it before he gets home.

Well after cutting through one support beam and mounting a turnout machine it dawned on me that I should have wired the thing first! It's now out and partially wired and since I was under the table I realized I had another turnout machine dangling and needed to be re-mounted to a new local, Guess where?....... That's right! right under another support beam! More cutting, more drilling, will it ever end?

Had to stop as my neck was giving out.

Glad to say the birthday thing went off very well. First time in 42 years, he tells me. I thought it was more. It turns out it was my brother's wedding day, which is also his birthday. (Noah, store this away for future thought, get married on your birthday, and you won't forget the anniversary[(-D]) But, I'm sure that before that we hadn't had a birthday celebration for some years. Any way, enough of this.

I think it's time to feed John, his powers are wearing off. They were working just fine up until the bottom of the 12th, when the damn Yankees came from behind to win. It's a good thing junior was at his mother's tonight. I don't think I could have handled the screaming.

Yes Mikey, it is. [8D]

Well did you invite Adrian and Gurl [;)] over to watch it too. Since Adrian is from Harrisburg he might like to see it. You know, popcorn doesn't cost very much and they both could bring some coke. That would make for a good evening--trains vid and friendship complete with corn and cokes. [:D]

There is currently an effort to save this loco and I am going to make a post in the trains.magazine forum about it. He sent it to Bergie and hopefully it will be Photo of the Day soon too.

Well I am off to make the post.

Well Jim, when you remember, I'll be right here. Don't worry, it happens to me more and more every day.[swg]

As long as we are talking about comedians, Steve Martin had a good joke about forgetfulness.

"I was going to tell you something, but I can't seem to remember."

"Well, it must not have been very important, or you wouldn't have forgotten"

"Oh yes, I remember, I'm radioactive!!! Shake?"

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It's a foggy morning in the mountains this morning. It's a lot warmer today than it was yesterday but it will take a while for the pea soup to burn off. I've got to get out there later and cut the grass and blow leaves. Funny thing about that; If you put out grass seed and water it, it grows, then you get to cut it. This time of the year, the leaves need to be dealt with pretty much every week. I think that has something to do with living in the forest. Oh well, it's going to be a good day for it.

I took one step forward and two steps back on the railroad yesterday. I got the power on-off switch for the Graham County staging track wired in, then noticed that the inside rail on the curve leading into it had popped loose from the ties and was WAY out of guage. I remove every 5th tie and increase the tie spacing on a lot of my sidings, spurs and so on. I got it back into guage with several Kadee guage tools and super glued the rail back into place. If it holds, no problem. If not I'll have to replace it. Since this is the section that goes through the wall, it should be great fun.

Big Boy 4005, your last post made me laugh so hard it almost brought tears to my eyes. I'd forgotten about that one- "Is not rat- is hampster". Louise and Shawna have never seen any of them. I think I need to find them on VHS or DVD. They are so good.

Fec153, seems like I remember some Dowlings at Jax Beach when I was in high school. There was a Pete Dowling who was a year or so ahead of me ( I graduated in '63). Boy that's been a long time ago. Another storm mid-month, huh. Thst's just what everybody needs. I saw on CNN yesterday that the weather folks are predicting a very cold and wet winter for the southeast this year. That could mean lots of snow. The last few winters have been a good bit warmer than usual so we're due for one.

Noah, congratulations on the Photo of the Day! That's outstanding. I can sympathize with you on the leaves. In a more perfect world, they'd turn all kinds of beautiful colors, then fall and crumble into mulch, which would give us more time for model railroading. I'll think about you while I'm out there today.

Der, I'm glad the birthday party went well. That's worth doing. Was it a big surprise to your brother? I hope so, that would have made it even better.

Fergie, 18 years since you were there, huh. That sounds like something I'd do. Actually I do things like that a lot. Time flies when you're having fun

I'd better get the day started. Have a great day everybody,
Tom

Thanks Tom, I love to make people laugh. That is definately one of those things where you have to have seen it to understand the joke. I can just hear Manuel's voice. "I name the hampster Basil after Mr Fawlty." The health inspector, the rat poison on the veal, the cat and it's hairball, and finally the tin of biscuits. John Cleese was the funniest one of the Monty Python lot, though they ware all good in their own special ways.

Hey guys,

Just thinking..........I'm sure going to miss Rodeny Dangerfield. What a caricature of a comedian he was! Rolling those big eyes, and coming back with lightning fast wit made so many of us laugh hysterically. [(-D][(-D][(-D][(-D][swg]

It was neat how he accidentally discovered his strategy for success by "Ripping and Ragging" on himself with the "I get no respect" tirades! [4:-)][tup][:o)][X-)][D)][(-D]

One of my favorite movies is where he plays an executive that goes back to college and has to deal with his son's feelings and attitude of having his "rich, popular and influential" dad on campus. IMHO, Rodney's finest performance.

He'll be missed!

Good day all -
Before I order, let us all bow our heads in a moment of silence IMO Rodney Dangerfield.... <pause / bow>

I'll take a 20oz cup o' Maxwell House - 5 cream, 4 sugar, partially frozen w/ a scoop of Chocolate Ice Cream.

Egmurphy / Big_Boy: Let's Go Red Sox!!!! 2-0 ALDS lead over the Angels now...tomorrow will be a 3-0 lead! WOOHOO!

Der5997: As for my HMO covering my coffee likings....not that I'm aware of, but my wife and I do make it on the STRONG side! Also, Brett is not doing too good right now. If he plays Monday night, hope he doesn't force himself into a early retirement. I too, am a GBP fan...have been since '97 when one of my highschool classmates (Dorsey Levens) started playing for them. Now, Dorsey plays for the team I have for my Defensive team for my fantasy league team....Philly!

Sorry NO!! I say NO politely as I'm actually Canadian Coast Guard. It's a rivalry thing ya know. Actually in light of the latest disaster my heart goes out to the submariners who are presently stranded out in the Atlantic. I'm presently on leave and will be going back to work in the end of November. I'm presently playing catchup with the Honey Dew list and garden chores and being Mr. Mom. BTW the Honey dew list is self imposed as I'm a sucker for punishment.

BTW this is a Blue Jay Home So anybody but the Yankees or Atlanta (The list gets longer every year) It's my wife's passion not mine. And Paul Molitor is a turncoat!

Anyway I goota go as it's Scouts tonight

I have removed mine untill Monday, when it will go back into affect for the GBP's, and they will win this time!

JP, You went to school with Dorsey Levens! Must be neat now watching the highlights and going, "I know that guy."

Elliot, I still always feel like Pauly is truely at home when He's in Milwaukee. He played all those years for them, and boy was he great, from what I've seen on TV. To bad I could have never have seen him play.

Well, got tomarrow off, so no homework tonight. Hope to get in a little modeling tommarow if I can help it. We'll see. Well, better get going now.

Well it's too bad Rodney Dangerfield died, quite a few old Hollywood stars have passed away this year.

Ed:
I ALMOST got a chance to watch the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly but I missed it.[banghead] I'll probably end up just getting the movie on tape or DVD so I can watch the thing without all those stupid commercials.

Noah:
Good to hear you got picture of the day, wish I had a better behaving computer plus a digital camera or a better film camera and a scanner, it'd give me a reason to take pictures...

As of the moment I've given up on getting a layout started, because I have neither the room or money to have one. Kind of makes me mad because I have nothing else to do in my free time, and I have nothing to show off my mrring stuff on, but it might be a good thing not to build a layout at the moment because in a little over a year I'll have a car and I'll have to pay for all of the stuff that goes with that. Still, I'd like to build a module; it's too bad we don't have enough room in our shed, my dad would like to have a shed that's insulated and has a car jack in it, plus a woodworking shop, and if you were going to have all that, might as well have a model railroad too! Hopefully before I'm 20 I'll get ot have a layout of some kind...[sigh]

GB&U though a classic would be a good acronym for a RR. Any ideas?

Don't worry CJ this is about the second or third showing on Spike so chances are you'll be able to see it again soon enough.

Elliot: the dig on Molitor was just a swipe at you buddy! I saw him play in Toronto on several occassions, the last in Twins Colours. He put the Jays to shame with four runs.

Good Night all

Thanks, Tom, it was a surprise in that before he came on this holiday, he didn't know our plans, and once here, he didn't know the ghastly details[:O] So, when they returned yesterday afternoon from their tour, the balloons on the mail box were indeed a surprise! ( and all the others, and the party hats, steamers, cake, sparklers, presents, etc. etc.) A really nice touch were the matching "Birthday Girl" and Birthday Boy" buttons that our neighbour Pat (she shares the same birthday, [and party this year [8D]]) made for the two of them. Since my bro is a bit on the Old School and stuffed shirt side, this was tremendous fun. Once in the spirit of the thing he relaxed and had a good time too[:D]

Thanks re the mocks. They are fun to do, especially the platforms on curves. However, looking at a couple as I sit here, I can see that since they are on grades, the station buildings are sloping! The platforms have to follow the grade, but I'd better jack up the downgrade ends before too much coffee or soup (sorry Paul) gets spilled[;)]

Now, as to sports and jinxes. You are dealing with strange and powerful forces here[}:)] Neither my wife or I have any actual interest, except at the most superficial level, in any sport [:0] [xx(] [:p] [X-)] [(-D] Consequently, the success of any team on an ongoing basis, is a matter of supreme indifference to us. However, when we watch, say ice skating, the individuals start to fall over. If we watch football or hockey, having changed channels and there's a game on, the team doing well stops that nonsence, and begins to bomb. So, kiss your Packers goodbye, because Big_Girl has asked that we begin to favor them, and Junior is supplying the cookies for our hire. [^]

The Yankees' doom is at the price of Prime Rib, B_Gs sugestion, not ours. Forces beyond your control or imagination are at play here. You have been warned[:o)]

QUOTE: Big Boy 4005, your last post made me laugh so hard it almost brought tears to my eyes. I'd forgotten about that one- "Is not rat- is hampster". Louise and Shawna have never seen any of them. I think I need to find them on VHS or DVD. They are so good.

Try Public Television stations. They use the boxed sets as promos for their subscription drives.

Looks like bed tim eis rolling around, and I think I'll have "a quick burst on the trains" before that. Now that the track's working so much better because of Bob's visit, it's great to see the action.

Good night, God Bless.
