Alex, you and I have almost Identical dreams! My plan is to start at the local tourist railroad and maybe through a few connections there work my way up to a freight railroad someplace. I also would like to go that Modoc railroad school in Sacramento, to up my chances.

I hope to get the contol pannel more advanced today, but then again, that's what I wanted last week too. Well, it's ben a little chilly around here, frosted last ngiht, and it supposed to freeze tonight. 'Scuse me, need to get a blanket, brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Noah

I'd like to go into some railroad-related industry if I make a good deal of money doing it, something in the manufacturing industries/steel industry/transportation is probably going to be my employer some day.

And it's getting colder here too, although maybe not permanently for the moment, tonite it's supposed to frost, but then the rest of the week it's supposed to either stay in the low 70s or the low 60s-hight 50s... What we really need here is a rain though, the grain dust is getting pretty bead without anything to dampen it down. OF course, being 200-300 miles south of you guys down here in Illinois, it'll take us 3-4 weeks to get the weather you're getting regularly. But Illinois lately has been having fairly mild winters, anyways.

Well I got to go to the LHS today, and I got a Atlas wide-vision caboose, (CB&Q of course!), and a pair of Zuron sprue nippers, something I've needed for a long time! The caboose is very nice, only I wish I could have gotten it as a kit, I need something to do for the enterity I'm going without a layout!

I want to be a Railroader , too !....Someday. It's getting colder here in Oklahoma, too.

Good Evening All:

I bet you thought that I'd fallen off the end of the world. I left John's last night and got lost going back to the motel and I couldn't tell him where I was, it took three calls to get through because of the lack of towers for cell phones. He was able to tell me where I was and get me back on track.

This has been a very good experience and very informative.

Ed:
You wouldn't believe how nice John's layout is, and he is an electronic genius. The ideas are better to explain when we were looking at the PC boards and now I can't wait to get home, build one and see if I can get it to work.

Well everybody's (John and Fergie) down in the train room so I'm going to get down there and get some train running in.

Ya'll have a blessed day and remember the SANTA FE

Teffy!! Glad to see your doing good in your travels. Was hopeing you'd stop in soon. Hope you have a good rest of the trip.

Not much around here today. Been drawing up someplans for my new paper building, which is going to be absolutely huge now that I see it on paper. I really can wait to see it get built. It'll cost a good bit, which means alot fo other projects will be on hold till after christmas and the snow season. Also been painting downloaded caboose drawings from the internet in a fake WSOR paint scheme, kind of based on the scheme the WC had on a few of there cabooses, as well as a few weird designs. I think I'm going to paint a freelanced athearn Bay window caboose for the WSOR, like they might have once had them. Just for fun, and it'll also be good practice for masking paint for doing the WSOR E-unit model someday. Well, that's about it around here, I'll se you all later,

Hi Teffy; Glade to hear you made it. Have fun there. Poor Fergie has been really working on that layout of his. You've missed all the blow by blows.

It's getting colder her in Texas too. It sure feels good. We are also getting some needed rain. I was going to mow somemore this evening but got rained out. Darn, now I'll have to go to the basement and work on the layout plans.

I want to book the super economy fair cause I am too broke to pay attention. [;)]

Well Bob and John have come and gone and a good night was had by all. Pictures to follow.

And from what I'm told they all enjoyed the BBQ'd Salmon. Good food and good company!!Well Bob and John have come and gone and a good night was had by all. Pictures to follow.

And from what I'm told Bob, Stef and his mother all enjoyed the BBQ'd Salmon. Good food and good company!!

Unfortunately one Gremlin got out of the cage and kicked Bob's Mountain off the table. I cried, Bob shrugged and the engine just rolled along.

If you ever see a Mountain with the right rear cab turned down, you can say "Hey, Wasn't that the one that rolled off the rails on the MESS back in 04' ?"

I'm greatful for Bob's visit as I enjoyed it and look forward to other experiences like this in the future. Tom and Bill you are both in for a pleasant Surprise!

Jim: Thank you ever so much for the photos they are excellent and do you much credit. I still would like to see this is in real life as the sound would be inspiring!

Any way gents

Very nice report and an encouraging one too. [:D]

Thank you for the kind words about the photos, I hope you enjoy them for years to come. AND the sound as the 4 6 6 4 passes is deafening but had to stick it out to capture the whole steam show.

If my Spectrum Mountain ever took the plunge I think I would do more than cry. Actually the roof would probally come off the house. [:0] <Wonder if the insurance would pay for that [?] > [:)]

Now I have some pics that I just put in the bridge thread. They are not the best of pics nor are they the worst either. But they do show the lift section of the bridge for anyone looking to model it. Hopefully they might help someone. [:)]

OK, I can't say I'm familiar with 54th & North, but I've traveled through the area on the way to Walther's and a hobby shop up on 80th & Burleigh. The CNW tracks in Shorewood, those would be the ones that go through Estabrook Park?

As for me, I'm out on the SW side just spitting distance from the city limits. Oklahoma & 84th is close enough.

This morning before Bob heads outta town I'm taking him to my LHS and two turntables, one is actually still operational.

Hope everyone has a good week. My next project will be straightening out some rail and reballasting! Funny how, when a new engine rides your rails. Track that was thought to be good, is less than perfect and a source for new "sights of action" or a "CNN Hotspot".

Have a good one

Good Mornin' Everyone,
It's a beautiful morning in the mountains this morning. The coffee is wonderful. It's about 42 degrees on the front porch and the air is clear and crisp. It's supposed to get up into the high 60's this afternoon. The leaves are starting to turn and it's going to be a wonderful day. I've got a few errands and odds and ends to take care of, and then it will be a model railroading day.

The L&N tower is painted and assembled but still needs to be weathered lightly. The water tank is painted and the subassemblies are ready to go together. The are both Walther's Cornerstone kits and they are very nice. The tower is actually two kits combined to make a longer building. I had to make a new roof to fit the longer structure and used Cambell's roll shingles to cover it. That was interesting. They actually work very well. They're just a little fiddly to use and time consuming, but they look good when it's done.

Fergie, I'm glad to hear that the cattle the other day were in good hands and well taken care of. We've never tried bell peppers on burgers before. We use them on lots of other things though. We'll have to give that a try. Sounds really good. I'm glad you all had a good time while Teffy was there. Sounds like it was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to them getting here. it's too bad about the Mountain's unscheduled excursion but stuff happens sometimes.

Paul, sorry about the continued references to food, but we've got to keep our strength up for model railroading.

Fla Phil, I'm glad to hear that you're finally getting some good weather. Ya'll have surely got a good long spell of it due. I hope it lasts for a long time.

Teffy, sounds like the trip is going well so far. I'm really looking forward to you getting here. Let me know when you expect to be here so I can get in touch with Bill. We'll have fun.

Adrianu, that's a tough one. There are lots of them. I will say that one of my favorites is Paul Dolkos' Boston and Maine modeled in November. It's an unusual season to model and it's beautifully done. He's also one of my favorite MR authors. His articles are always well done and full of useful information.

Better go for now and get the day going. The sooner the odds and ends are done, the sooner I can get to the fun stuff.
Have a great day everybody,
Tom

Morning Coffee Shoppers,

(That’s in the sense of being regulars or visitors here, not implying that you’re out at the supermarket looking for a pound of Starbuck’s House Blend).

Hope everyone had a decent weekend. No hurricanes reported. Glad to hear that Teffy made it to N.S. without mishap (at least to him and family, not including his Mountain).

I tell ya, the Bosox make the playoffs [:D] (okay, so it’s a wild card berth, at least they’re in) and how about them Giants, eh? [:0] Sorry Noah, hope Favre isn’t seriously hurt. I’m basking in temporary glory, but steeling myself for a possible letdown later this week as the playoffs progress. Who knows? This could be our year. The Red Sox … could … go … all … the … way! (Yeah, right, forgot about “The Curse” for a moment). [;)]

Our weather improved a bit. We have a front coming through this week so it should stay cloudy and rainy most of the week. But that will drop the temperature a bit and the highs are forecasted to be only in the mid-80’s! [xx(]

Ferg, I know you were busy getting things ready for the visit and chasing gremlins, but did you see the link I posted regarding a place to get custom decals done? Or the comment about posting ship model photos on RailImages?

You had me going with that talk about barbequing salmon and tiger prawns. I really miss cold water seafood. Not that the fish down here isn’t good, but it’s a lot different from what you find up north. By the way, how long until you ship out again?

Waiting for pictures from the visit! Sounds like it was fun. I enjoy the conversation (such as it is) here on the board, but I'd really like to be able to meet some of you guys in person. This virtual relationship leaves somthing to be desired (although if you're far away from anyone, it's better than nothing!)

Tom, sounds like you had a good long visit with your son. Glad you finally got to make that drive up into the mountains. Must be gorgeous scenery around there.

QUOTE: It's about 42 degrees on the front porch and the air is clear and crisp. It's supposed to get up into the high 60's this afternoon. The leaves are starting to turn and it's going to be a wonderful day.

Okay, rub it in!

Jim, I think if you can get home made cream gravy it would be okay. Unfortunately most of what I find in restaurants these days resembles paste. I suspect that some hole in the wall places probably still make it right. Sorry I missed the pot roast. We’re doing that tomorrow ourselves. Of course down here you throw a little chili pepper in with the stuff, so it doesn’t come out the same! [C=:-)]

I’ve got to agree with Jay_C about Duchess. Sounds like she’s either bored or just upset about being left alone. bwdik.

I’m still piddling along on my mockups. Think I’m spending too much time on something that’s supposed to be real temporary. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll have a couple of shots to share. Football and errands got in the way of making substantial progress this weekend.

Hope everyone has a good day. I’ll check back later,

Regards

Ed

I wouldn't call it a mishap persay but rather a "time establishing event" which just left a small but signifigant character mark.

I don't remember seeing the link can you either post it or send it to me please.

Salmon isn't bad but not as good as Arctic Char, which is a cross between salmon and trout. Now that's a good BBQ'ng fish! It's also good smoked or planked[C=:-)]

Well Teffy an dfamily or on the road once again and are headed for Cape Breton. Got him to Two turntables and two LHS's in Two days. So I believe Bob is now happy, I hope so anyway.

Here's the bit about custom decals:
QUOTE: Try this guy for custom decals:

His prices seem reasonable, especially since it seems you already have the artwork.

Here's the comment about RailImages:
QUOTE: A few days ago you commented "...suggested that I transfer over to Railimages as they don't have spectrum issues, just content ie No Ships..."

It didn't strike me when I read it, because I remember their regulation about train only content, but I've found other guys there with ship photos (at least model ships), lots of them. If you look at the very first album on page one (Pete Nolan's album - very nice, by the way) it has a couple dozen ship model photos. After you build up some model railroad content you could try slipping in some ship photos now and them.

Or are you referring to 1:1 scale Coast Guard ships photos?

How much longer are you in port for?

Regards

Ed

Well Ed, the Red Sox made it. I was a little bummed that the Twins lost yesterday. They had a chance to play the Sox in the first round. Now they have to play the damn Yankees. I expect to see the Boston beat the Angels, and the Twins fold, so here they go again..... Go Sox!!![swg]

Hello again everone. Just got back tot he Coffee Shop after beating the layout into submission for Bob's visit. He's on his way to Cape Breton now, after operating on the Musquodoboit, Eastern Shore and Sydney last night. His visit to the Maritime Trunk went as well as the home grown and Texas Gremlins would allow [:I] No, seriously, things went very well. The Digitrax system Bob has brought along was an eye opener too.

I'm 4 pages of Coffee shop to catch up on, so here's a [#welcome] to JPowel, and since you ordered

how many was that for?, or, is that covered by your HMO?[(-D]

Thanks Ed, this is only page 116, so you may have replied in more detail by now, I'll keep an eye out. The 1 -1 1/2 oz cars run well so far. Oh! [:I][:D] just scrolled two down and there's your answer! I'll do the math later, thanks again.

I looked at that album some weeks ago, Ed, and there was nothing there! Did the PTB remove the content?

QUOTE: Ok so this is one of my first posts on the coffee shop. I have a question. For those of you who do or have worked on a railroad, what is it like ? It has always been my dream to work for a railroad. I'm only 13, but one day I would like to go to work on a railroad. I would like to work on a shortline or a regional. Thanks !
I've not worked o a railroad, but have spoken with several old timers. My impression of their days was that that it was a hazardous occupation if you were anywhere near the trains. My maternal grandfather was a ttrian engineer in Australia, but I never got to know him. Safety is much better now, so go for it[:D]

Only a page and a half to go!!!! Enjoyed your visit, and it was something else to actually run with the Digitrax. I've only read about it on the ndcc forum before. Thanks for bringing the locos etc. hope you all enjoy Cape Bretton and PEI.[:p]

John,

Good to have you back. We guessed you were busy chasing gremlins in preparation for the visit to have time to waste here.

No, the ship models are still on Pete Nolan's album. Maybe you are referring to the sub-album he has entitled 'Destroyer' which is currently empty. Check his main album.
www.railimages.com/gallery/petenolan
They start with a couple of shots of ships at his wharf on page 2, on page 3 and 4 he has a couple more, including some that are not directly tied to his wharf, by page 5 and 6 we're getting into model ship building. Maybe they're not as strict as the rules say. Maybe it's because he does have a large waterfront/wharf on his layout and there's some tie-in between the ships and the layout. By the way, he does nice work.

Regards

Ed

Hi Gang; Well I had the day off so I thought I'd get to finish mowing that field. Well it's been raining since yesterday afternoon. I thought that I'd be able to get to the basement and do some work on the clean-up. I ended up cleaning carpets. Nuts!

Fergie; Nice pictures. Any chance you could give us a look at a diagram of your layout?

Well I'm going to take my wife out for dinner. Nothing fancy, just burgers I guess.
Take care everyone. Paul

QUOTE: No, the ship models are still on Pete Nolan's album. Maybe you are referring to the sub-album he has entitled 'Destroyer' which is currently empty. Check his main album.

Yes, that's exactly it. I haven't gone into his main album, just the "Destroyer " one, and as you say, it's empty.

QUOTE: Well I'm going to take my wife out for dinner. Nothing fancy, just burgers I guess.
Take care everyone. Paul

What's this, Paul? Dinner = Food. We all thought you'd gone off food.[:O][C=:-)][dinner] Hope they were great burgers.

Major dog house time today. The ladies were out to Dartmouth leaving der in charge of the clothes drier. I cleaned the lint from the ducts (fire risk people, should be done every so often,) cleaned up the fluff, put in the clothes, set it going, and promptly forgot it for the rest of the day. Rock hard clothes were discovered on their return.[B)][}:)][:I] Hey well, such is life....

Have a good evening, God Bless.

Tom

Sorry Tom: I meant to say "pickled Pepper Rings", which is actually Banana peppers and not bell peppers. Like I said they give those burgers a real nice zing!

If anyone is interested I've added more pics on my Rail Image site.

Paul: you'll find a copy of the MESS plan on the Rail Image link on my signature down below.

Well we didn't have burgers. We both thourht that mexican was right for the weather. It's cool and rainey. If any of you are in the Weatherford Texas area try Jorger's on Santa Fe drive. Everythig is good. We had chicken fajhitas. I'm not off food. I just like to eat too much. I do love pot roast with mashed potatoes and brown gravey.

Fergie; I took a look at railimages. Your layout looks good. Did you use foam for a sub- base?

Big Girl . . . make my prime rib MR please. [:p]

Thanks guys for the Teffy report. I know he is having a good time. I think he meets up with Bill and Tom and the 13th. They may correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, long trip, I know he will be tired when he gets home.

In the trains.magazine forum is a thread we refer to as the stupid question thread. That forum is blessed with some very knowledgeable railroaders and Mr. H. himself. I asked yesterday about drawbridges and IF they actually exhisted or not. Well if you want to know . . . then you have to go [:D] [;)] [}:)]
to the link below. [:p] (Poet, aren't I [:D] )

I did test the link. It works. [8D]
