Krump, Farve is Brett Farve, the Packers Quarterback. He's played with them for I think close to 10 years. He is a very big risk taker, and even played almost a whole seaon with a broken thumb a few years ago. He's got a little over 200 consecutive starts in Games, the record by far. If you know the Our Father, well there's a version dedicated to Farve. Don't remeber it all, but it starts, Our Farve, who art in Lambeau (feild, where the pack plays) Hallowed be thy name. It goes on, it's quite commical actually.

Thanks to all of you for your concern, doing much better today really. Little bit of a runny nose, but I'm pretty much over it. All is well know.

Well, Silly old me went and goofed again. I thought that the Local NMRA monthly metting was today, but really it was last Sunday. It's a shame really, as I really wanted to see the clinic they were going to have. Oh well, hopefully it'll be again sometime. Well better get going,

Yes, that is what made a couple of the Twins losses hurt so much. In both games that went into extra innings the Twins were ahead in the 8th inning. Yesterday we were ahead by 4 runs... I was certain we were heading to New York for game five.

My daughter won't even acknowledge that the Twin's season is over. She says she's in the denial stage of mourning.

It's a nice sunny fall day here... I think I will go out and do some early fall yard work. Hope everyone has a nice day.

Yes indeed, the session I described took at least an hour. That's actual running time, not including sorting out the gremlins I mentioned. I find thinking ahead for switching moves a real challenge. Major vegetable preparation time today, as it's our Canadian Thanksgiving this weekend. Dinner is at our neighbours this afternoon. They've got thte turkey etc,this year, and we are doing the veggies trimmings, and deserts that aren't baked. (Turkey roaster gets to do thte pies as the oven is on anyway.)
2 couples from New England should join us. That way they get to practice for November [C=:-)][dinner]
It's also our host's birthday[bday] (husband of Pat whose birthday we celebrated with my brother's on the 6th.) He's in HO, but since they moved house this summer, he doesn't have anything up yet. Still has to finish off the basement to get it ready for trains[:D][^]

40' seas in a good sea boat aren't a serious threat if taking it slow and easy. However in a confused sea state they can be harrowing. We rolled 57+ twice and the roll period was 4 seconds. Not one of my favourite experiences.

So rumour has it the Yanks will take it 4 straight against the Botox Boys.

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It looks like it's going to be beautiful day in the mountains today.it's about 8:15 and the temp is hovering about 50 F, so it should warm up nicely. The weather-guessers are calling for rain later on tonight, but it sure is pretty so far. We've got some outside odds and ends to get done today but nothing major. As Fergie mentioned, it's about time to start cleaning everything up outside and getting the flowerbeds and gardens ready for winter. We have one big bulb order yet to arrive. It's crocuses, daffodils and tulips which will go in the new bed to the left of the front porch. The new daylilies are already in, and we divided the old ones and filled in with them. That bed should be in bloom from late February or early March right through this time of year. It should be really pretty. If the rain comes early today I'm going to try to finish up the tower and water tank models. There's just a little final weathering left to do.

Fergie, Teffy called last night. I missed the call because Louise and I had gone to dinner with some friends, but Shawna took the message. They're in the Philidelphia area, and unsure of their schedule. He'll call back in a day or so. Thanks for the info. I would think 40' seas could be pretty exciting. That has to be a real roller coaster ride.

Noah, I hope you get to feeling better. It's not much fun. Try chasing your gremlins one at a time. It's easier to identify and correct problems that way because you're focusing on it. Everybody's railroad has problems like that from time to time, and they just have to be dealt with.

When I started drinking coffee,it was with milk and sugar. Stopped the sugar in high school. Army had iron cows. Stopped the milk-cream. Need my java BLACK,no additives.

Hi all been trying to catch up on the talk but too many pages for my tired eyes to read but I wanted to say to all who have replaied to my topics or any topic for that matter good or bad that it is very helpful to a rookie like me to learn and not feel timid about asking for fear of getting slapped down.

My only comment thus far would be that I notice that there have been appro 25,000 views of this forum but only like 2500 replies that like 10 perecnt (I am so smart i can do math) I would have quessed more would have something to say. oh well

Paul I've been "lucky" regarding storms. Only been tossed from the bunk a couple of times. I've seen 40 footers but that's it. got caught once in a confused sea (40 footers from the SW and 40 footers from the NW, sent 3 to hospital and the Mess looked like a game of "pick up sticks"). Seen the bow disapear on occassion but that's the North Atlantic. Hope your son is feeling better.

Well, that was fun[:D] While Big_Boy, roadtrp and radivil were enjoying themselves "avec les afaires sportif", I watched an episode of Keeping Up Appearances, and played trains. Made up a freight to exchange four different types of car at the timesaver, did the exchange, picked up two container cars at the port, exchanged a box and a hopper from the timesaver with similar waiting at the interchange, ran the whole train around the layout, and came back home to break the train down. Apart from some couplers that need attention, and a turnout or two showing a tendency to not make good contact, a relaxing end to the day.

Now it's bedtime [|)], so I shall bid one and all a very good night, and God Bless.

Tom; Thanks for thinking about John( my son). He wasn't getting any better, so today we talked him into moving to a hospital in Ft. Worth. He started doing better but he has had a reacton to one of the drugs that he was given at the first hospital. To tell everything that happened to him would take too long. So I'll just say that some people are going to have alot of explaining to do.

I did get a chance to do some more in the basement last night. The MRRing does help. I'm going to try and go to a train show tommrow. It's near the hospital. I'm going to sell some brass that I bought looooooong time ago when I was single. I don't have to get much to make out, so someone could get some real deals. The stuff has never been on the track. I'll let you know how the show went.

Noah; Gazonthight! At least I think thats the way it's spelled. Take care of yourself and be sure and thank your folks for looking after you. They will never stop. Even when your grown and have a place of your own.

FlaPhil; Shoot the almanac. There is a storm in the gulf and it couldbe heading towards the Fla. panhandle. What did you folks in Florida do that has brought all this on? At least it's not a full blown hurrrican. Take care.

eastcoast; I think that that's DDA40X. Someone else check that out . There is a fellow down here that did a Centenial in 7.5 in. gauge. It's big. I haven't heard of anything from EMD that's that big. I wouldn't doubt it though.

At least the Twins made it about as close as it could be. I bet the Yankees hope they don't run in to a team like the Twins again. Two of the three games the Yankees won were in extra innings. And in each of those games it was not Yankee talent, but Minnesota errors that determined the outcome.

But the Yankees have certainly earned my support and respect. Their persistence and refusal to count themselves out of the game are truly impressive. And that is a trait that can't be bought by Steinbrenner.

Yankees still suck. [;)]

But I'm going to be rooting for them the rest of the way. If the Twins can’t be there, the only team that should be there is the team that beat them. Because if the Twins weren’t the best, they were certainly second only to the World Series Champs!

That would be my impression too. I know that the ribbon rail has to be ground down out west because the 100 + car unit trains of grain, coal, containers, etc actually pu***he steel into waves along the track.[:O] However, I doubt the steel is of poorer quality than when the DDAX40s were running. What did the DDAX40s do to the non welded rail? (For that matter what did Big Boys and Challengers do to it?)
As to why build such a large loco, I don't know. Maybe it's a cost of maintenance thing. If you have a large consisit to haul a certain regular train, and each loco in the consist has to have costly down time, aren't you further ahead with fewer "monster " locos, where there is less maintenance, in total, potentially?
A lot would depend on the design, I guess. Quite a gamble as the maintenance history of any machinery is, I'm led to believe, guesswork until a few have been built and run in service. Perhaps Fergie could give us some insights from his experience with large machines? Anyone else out there with that sort of knowledge? I'm just a country preacher, and may be a bit out of my depth.

Speaking of Fergie, the der Fall colours trip went down the Musquodoboit River Valley this afternoon. There was a rock formation by the road the look of which Fergie has captured in a scene on his Musquodoboit, Eastern Shore and Sydney. He's used Large Landscaping Bark for rock, and it's just like the rock I saw today[^]

On a less jolly note, my computer has decided that it doesn't recognize my camera, and can't find any drivers on the install disk[xx(] [V] [}:)] [:(] [banghead] So, futher photos will have to wait until I can reconcile these parties[(-D]

Two interesting questions. I'm not sure that we have any regular here at the shop who could answer that. Probably have better luck posting it over at the Trains magazine forum.

Did you know they have one of those DDAX40's, commonly known as Centennial's, down here in a museum in Mexico City? It was a gift from the UP when they were decommissioning them. There are apparently several in museums. I think it's odd to have one here because the UP never ran anything down here.

Just my guess but I would expect that mainline track on the majors today is in better condition than ever.

As I sit in my corner, staring out a window, I remember how I enjoyed
a very entertaining book with many a subject without a sound I spoke.
Then one day, I become aware of a rowdy baseball fan from across the
way. AS I DAMN NEAR CHOKE ON MY COFFEE, a change of subject was
at hand. But the loud fanatic drowns me out while I chime in. SO, here I am
again with ears open I express myself to you fanatic.
Baseball is great. It is the American game. Made better by a cheering crowd.
But RUINED when the town fanatic WON'T SIT DOWN. I am in tune with the
World Series and will tell you that both teams are pouring themselves into
