You and Willy6 should compare notes. His 6 is a Nascar reference that you can probably identify right away.

No more photos for a while. Vivitar suggest I send them the camera and $5 to get it back! Does anyone know if the photos stored in a digital camera with a memory chip have the shots stored first of all on the chip, rather than the camera's own memory? I've shots in the camera that i don't want to lose. If they are on the chip, fine, I won't send the chip. If they are on the camera's memory, then I risk losing them. Any thoughts?

Can't help thinking life was a great deal more simple before these machines came into our lives.[:D]

Coffee was great, but now I must figure out how the removable portions of my tunnel scenery can be supported and still leave room for the trains.[X-)]

Nicole has come an gone, We missed the brunt of it, had about 2" of rain, which the garden was desperate for. Unfortunately the ground is now too soggy to transplant anything.

Tom: I'd say by your comments Clay is Clay is Clay. Not the best growing medium, but you're right some things will flourish despite what they are growing in.

I have a wide range of Mountain Laurels, Azaleas, Rhodies and Japanese Maples and two tulip trees.

I'm ordering decals today so hopefully I'll have some results before Christmas. Ill be doing the finishing touches on three switch machines today. This will include the wiring of signals direcly to the turnouts.

Well time to get a move on

Afternoon everyone. Boy, haven't been in here in a while. This thread has gotten big! Glad to see it's still going strong.

Has anyone ever tried to tune up a really old HO locomotive (40+)? I just recently found my dad's old Atlas B&O FT set and would love to get it running. Apparently, it takes power from the front truck, and the motor (located at the rear of the frame) drives the rear truck. I've put some light oil on the gears, but it still won't move. The wheels look pretty dirty, but I don't know of any methods of cleaning them. Any help would be appreciated.

I've found another white LED, so decided to try two in the tunnel light box. Since they are directional (part of the problem with having just one, I now figure) I've arranged one to light the backdrop, and the other to give sunlight at the tunnel mouth. It looks better than the incandescant. Still could be overall brighter. I've a 120 ohm resistor in the circuit that's running on 20volts AC (so I assume that's 10 volts DC in the diode alternating at 60 cycles per second) I would have thought 120 ohms not enough resisitance, since these LEDs light at 1000 ohms in Loy's toys little gizmo. But it hasn't blown yet.
Anyway, if the camera is ever recognized by the computer again, I'll send a pic.

Tom- Sorry about that. It was on RFD via sat. The credits showed it was made in 1983.
They also had the NKP 765 on a roundtable pulled forward till it was nose to nose with 611. Still get get over the sound from a loco steam whistle. Haunting. And it brings back memories as a child in Conn. Late at night hearing the train whistle as it was going thru Yantic-Willamantic on its way to ????

we had another fine day overhere in the netherlands, at least in Zierikzee west, nice sunny bit of wind and no rain. spoke to someone living some 5 miles inland of here who had rain all morning!
I just love this microclimate we are living in at the coast!

going to water the fresh sown grass later ( that is stand on the porch with a hose, full presure and due to the small dutch gardens spray the garden without moving one step.
btw I am glad the landscaping is done. I am a not too physical guy [:D] now I am going to have dinner on the porch and armchairmodel the large scale railroad coming to my garden in the future! ( remember, that is a project for when I grow up )

Good Mornin' Everybody,
It's a gray rainy morning in the mountains today. It's supposed to rain most of the day, and then get chilly. The weather folks are calling for low 40's in Atlanta tomorrow night, and then cooler towards the weekend, which means our first frost won't be long in getting here.

There's a lot of really good modeling going on. The lighted tunnel is one of the coolest ideas I've seen. It really looks great. I might have to give that a try. Ed's loco service area is looking good and the fuel column is super. Is that really "Normal" scale? Even with lots of light I don't think my eyeballs would work that small.

Ed, I think you're exactly right on the relationship between views and posts. I'll usually check in a couple of times a day to see what's going on, but only post once every day or so.

Lupo, welcome back to the coffee shop. It's good to hear from you again. One to one scenery building can be adictive too. It leads to major time spent gardening. "I'll just plant a few things right up here close to the house". "That looks nice, lets do something over here". "Well, we need to put something out here to dress this up". Then come the patios and ponds and shade gardens. It's a slippery slope. I woke up one morning and realized I'd become a gardener, and I love it. It's truly good for the soul.

Lupo, Fergie any anyone else who gets to deal with clay soil, down here we have the world famous, or infamous red clay. It has two consistencies, hard as rock when it's dry, or mud and gumbo when it's wet. It's also full of rocks which makes digging a lot of fun. But it's really good soil for lots of things and easily amended for the rest.

Krump, dessert first! I think that's an excellent idea. Life is uncertain, so let's start with the pies and whipped cream. That makes sense to me.

FEC, where were you? I wish I'd been there. The 611 ( N&W 4-8-4) and a full passenger consist coming through. I missed the last time the 611 did Saluda mountain. It was in 1994, right before Norfolk Southern dropped the steam excursion program. The video is excellent but I wish I'd been there.

Teffy will be here tomorrow morning. They were in Lexington, Va. last night. Bill is going to come up from Canton. We'll have fun.

Well it's dull and dreary here, a perfect day for the basement and installing switch machines. It also means left overs for lunch and supper. 2 apple pies Turkey, Turkey and More Turkey and "Bubble and Squeak" (Mashed Potatoes mixed with Turkey gravy, fried until golden brown, kinda like hash browns)

I might make it to the LHS to pick my MR and a few odds and ends today

The hull is the American Scout and yes it's a Victory Ship if I remember correctly and the scale is 1:100

The Speed on the Turntable Control Shed is MPH. Canada though metric still has a lot od throw backs to the old imperial system, Wood measurment being one. Since we went metric in the early seventies the bulk of the population aka Baby Boomers still use imperial. I was unable to determine the age of the turntable but I suspect it predates WWII

The scene in the light box is actully brighter than the photo makes it look. I think it's got to do withthe way incandescent lights look in photos. That's one reason I wanted to use a white LED, but heones I have aren't powerful enough to light the scene as brightly as the incandescent.

Thanks for your help. BTW, that sub album is still showing as Untitled even though the "Properties" shows it as The-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel

The yams were excellent. Lisa is "reluctant" in giving up the recipe but to the best of her knowledge it goes something like this:

Peel and par cook yams

Melt a clump (1/4 cup) of butter in saucepan; throw in 3 handfuls of brown sugar and melt. Add 1/2 cup apple cider 1/4 cup maple desert wine (Maple syrup in smaller amount will suffice) 1/2 capful of vanilla extract. Add 1 teaspoon of cornstarch to water and stir then add solution to concoction then bring to a boil to thicken, remembering to stir.

Once thickened to desired consistency pour over yams and put in oven for 30-40 minutes at 300F. Please remember Lisa made this up on the fly today so there's room for improvement.

As for the potato stuffing it's the same as bread with onions and lots of savoury.

And we normally use garden carrots and cook them before creaming them. Canned carrots work just as well.

It's basement day tomorrow as the rain is coming down hard right now ans will continue through the night.
