Good evening everyone.....voting day here today, state Primaries. Spent the afternoon in garage 2nd floor, gone about as far as I can without an influx of more $$$. So iy will be step by step from now on until it is too cold.

FERGIE: Don't worry about Hurricane "H", it will turn seaward like the others. Glad to here that your dad is ready to come home, I'm sure he is looking forward to that.

MIKE: Glad you tried the web site, and thanks for letting the CS know that the http://www.conwayscenic.com is working Ok. I don't know what VISTA or the new Windows Mail is doing, but security is real tight and I have run into many glitches that I have forwarded to Microsoft, hopefully RC1, which is arriving soon. will behave much better.

J.R.: The new "sneakers" on the Explorer are real good so far. The car handles real good, the ride is quiet and soft. Now the next test will be on wet road braking. Cornering is real positive also. Check out the ConwayScenic RR web site, quite interesting.

JEFF: That is a real good idea to be able to switch to DC or DCC, keep us informed of your progress.

LUC: I never knew that Nova Scotia had a "Bigfoot" also...lol. Yes, he will be good for Gloria, pets have proven to be very good for our health, they lower BP and reduce stress levels....except when they attack trains. We lost our cat back in early July to a Fisher cat. We thought all we had to worry about here were Coyotes....WRONG !!!

DER JOHN: Please let Krump know that we are praying for his wife.

JERRY: Sorry to hear about your leg...drink some Cranberry juice, it has lots of ability to fight certain infections and bacteria.

Ryan: John Armstrong mentions in hos book that reducing the isle in a small area to even 18" is Ok as long as it doesn't span too large of an area. Gas here is at $2.43 today.
Look at the S10 huh, what have you not had done to it yet? You must have replaced the battery once? About 2005 maybe? If not, better do it now, as you are on borowed time with northern Winters coming on fast. I replaced mine last month, they don't last more than 5-7 years depending upon the brand.

PAUL: Thanks for keeping the HD stock moving up, my parking spot is now assured for the next quarter.

ModelTrainLover: Never get rid of any left over stuff, you will need it sometime down the road. Maybe for a mountain, etc.

LISA: How did therapy go today? I sure need it for my neck and shoulders.
Time to run, see you guys later,

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Quiet day here.  Still hot, so what else is new?

I spent some time trying to work on one (of several that I have) Intermountain kit for an 8,000 gal tank car.  Ouch.  Way too small pieces for someone with old eyes.  I'm thinking of just leaving some of them off.  If I need the optivisor to install them (and it's still not enough) I'm not sure I'll miss them while operating.  Not to mention just how fragile some of these pieces are.  Bottom line is that I didn't make too much progress on the assembly process.  I opted to set the kit aside for the afternoon in lieu of launching it.  Wink [;)]

I'm finally getting around to editing some of the pictures I took on the summer vacation.  Maybe next week I'll have some to show.  After all, we've only been back for over a month.  Why hurry things?  There's always mañana!   Laugh [(-D]

inch:  ...know bout the naps to, I take one bout every chance I get now...
That's the spirit!  I've have responded to your remark earlier, but I was asleep...........

Hasta mañana

ED: How about Paco putting the small parts on? His eyes are young!

MIKE: Holy cow, your wife went back to Walmart after the episode last week? I thought you were banned from Walmart? Ohhhhhhh, THAT is why you sent the wife!!! Dummy me.....LOL

TRENT: Where is your store in Texas in case we travel that way cross country?

A very late good evening, folks. I have finished the rewiring on my layout in record time. It's now set up so that I can run either DCC or DC at the flip a switch. Switches actually, there are 16 blocks in all, ewack set up on it's own DPDT switch. Flip the switch up and the block is DCC. Flip it down and the block is DC. It's just that easy.

The shop is in San Antonio, Texas, which is pretty nice place to stop off and visit.  We stopped in last year when we went north in January.  Big train store, Texas sized.  Nice variety of stuff, lots of O and S scale.  In my humble opinion, N scale was underrepresented.  But then again, that's just me.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

I guess that I shouldn't say too much since I also have trouble and alot of the time it's working on 1 to 1 scale stuff.

It's another day in the barrell here. I'd like to be able to practace my napping for retirement, but the management disapproves for some reason. Stupid management.Sign - With Stupid [#wstupid]

Well I'd better start getting started. It takes longer every morning.

I've heard of it.  Maybe I ought to try it out.  It would also cut back significantly on my model railroad purchases, as i'd only have space for one switcher and two 40' boxcars.

I'd like to be able to practace my napping for retirement, but the management disapproves for some reason.
You need to start slowing down soon.  Going 'cold turkey' at retirement can be a real shock to the system.  With only a few months to go you need to start developing a "mañana" mindset.  Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Okay, question here.  I just noticed that (probably since the forum change) the link to my Rail Images album in my signature does not show up as a clickable link, just regular type.  I know I need to edit my profile, but in doing so, how do I specify the address to show up as a link?

Thanks

Ed

Good mornin' and top 'o' the day te all of ye. I'll have the steak and eggs today with a large cup o coffee.

Had a late night last night working on the layout, but finally got it all rewired so that I can now do DCC or regular block operation on DC by simply flipping the block switches up or down. Up for DCC or down for DC, or do some mainline running on DCC and some switching on DC at the same time. There are lots of possibilities. But after all that, I've decided today is a day of rest. so I'm not going to be doing much today except cruising the forums and surfing the web.

Have a great day.

You have to put (url) before it and (/url) after it, using brackets instead of parenthesis and it'll show up as a link.

Hey Jeff, just gotta ask you.  Being from Leesville, any chance you know a railfan named Lowell McManus?  He's the administrator for the MexList site, which is the main website for fans of Mexican railroading.

Good morning everyone...very cool morning here, but not quite as cool as Mike's house in Ohio. We got down to 51 here, but as the colder air moves east, we have frost warnings for the Valley's here on Friday morning.

ED: San Antonio.... wow, right on the border practically. And if the store is Texas size, it is probably as big as a Walmart store up here..lol
By the way, you didn't reply on my suggestion for your eyesight issue with "N" ( "N"o can see guage)...let Paco install the small parts. BTW, did you catch Trent's statement.....$2000 "N" guage order to put away.

JEFF: You should submit your wiring diagram and edit an article for submission to MRR mag!!! That seems like a noteworthy article to me. Go for it buddy!!

PAUL: I was going to suggest HO to Ed, but you beat me to it, LOL. He could use his present "N" guage layout as a coffee table center piece, then put an addition on the house for a train room.

Time to get outside and get the day's work done, before we know it, snow will be flying here up in northeast. See you guys at lunch, ED, don't foget to nap this morning and work outside after lunch when it is cooler.

Good morning! I’ll have a tall cup of coffee Miss Chloe!

Oh…. I see luct and Bill are keeping a continual supply of fresh coffee and pastries on a daily basis.

Is Chloe and the whole staff on vacation or something?

The steam coming off that cup this morning is quite warming as the temps were in the mid 50’s when I let the dogs out the back deck. Just right for me, I like it a bit nippy in the air!

We got a nice dose of rain late yesterday afternoon, now the tomato plants should be well watered for next few days.

Speaking of tomatoes, I made a small batch Cream of Tomato Soup last night with 4 lbs of fresh cheery and heirloom tomatoes from the yard. Yum, was that stuff good! Put a little bit of parmesan cheese in it too!

Hey, PC, check out this link. If my calculations are correct it has your move starting at 8:00 am on Saturday, September 30th. This is a JavaScript countdown web page I made for you!

Paul, I ordered that three meat one once, it was good! I think it was sausage links, bacon, and ham with the eggs, grits, and biscuits!

LOL, you got that right about HO! With my eyesight these days I am thankful that HO is not too terribly small!

PA Belt, Friday night date eh! Good for you!

Dick, I know what ya mean about the $$$ thing and modeling! I just got an email newsletter from Precision Craft Models announcing their ALCO FA and FB units in HO coming out soon. List price for each set is $389.99. Currently priced out of my league, but boy would I love to have a couple of those babies’s!

Check out their website at: http://precisioncraftmodels.com/ALCO-FA-FB,-HO-c3067.html

Your mention of John Armstrong and the 18” aisle width reminds me that my weight loss program is not coming along fast enough and anything under 28” might be just a little too tight for my comfort zone. I might however consider making a choke point about 18” to 22” on the section of the layout where I have a lift out section.

Inch, dang, gas $$$ keeps falling here too! On the way home from work and this morning it was down to $2.25 a gallon.

Give RT our best when you speak with him again, and our prayers for the passing of Edythe.

Sorry to hear about your WWII Vet friend, prayers go out to the family and friends!

And thanks for the Charleston pics, I copied a few of them too. I like the grain structures.

Jeff, that DC to DCC switch flip wiring sounds interesting. How do you keep track of which locos are DC or DCC? I would get too confused?

Ed, I am glad you asked! I can show you how to do it like mine.

In your profile you have to add some HTML code to get the URL to show up as a hyperlink.

For your instance you would want to have this code pasted into the signature section of your profile: (remove the ** in my example for it to work, I added them so you could see the code in this post) Of course you can change the display section to anything you want, I just put “The Rail Images Page of Ed Murphy”, you can make that whatever you want to be displayed. This code does not seem to work in thred postings, but I did get it to work in the signature of my profile.

SilverSpike All my DCC locos have silver handrails, the DC locos have black handrails. That way, I know at a glance which one is which. For locos that lack handrails, such as F units, the coloring is on the trucks. DCC have gray, DC have black or rust.

Back again, another coffee Zoe,

Just taking a break for a short. Mother suggested me doing some things inside, and the way she said, thought it best to follow atleast part of the orders.

Did break down and turn some heat on log enough to take the chill out.

Jeffery, I do something like that on mine. I use 2 transformer on the main lines, that way i can just flip a switch and can run on just one. Makes it handy when switching tracks.

Gray fox,,, no frost warning here YET, but they were talking maybe upper 30's in the morning. I'll get to burn some more money

Ryan,,, a batch of mater soup does sound good, I know what lunch will be now. Like the link for PC's count down. They were saying on the news, gas might get down to $2 or lower in couple months maybe. I'll beleive it when I see it..

Thanks for thoughts on Earl, I'll pass them on. Guess he told Deb at the vet picinic, the docs  didn't give much more time. Found out he never told any one else. Me n him use to get into some troulbe with out wives, but we sure had some fun.

Best get to doings,

inch

Hi, all.  Just a quickie during lunch to let you know I haven't fallen of the edge of the earth.  Just nothing new to report lately.  I keep up with the reading here at work.  Faster connection here.  The cable company is still procrastinating on the broadband.  DSL and satillite are looking better all the time.

See you later.

Now that sounds like a sensable system to follow! Thumbs Up [tup]

I am installing a Digitrax system, but I only have maybe 6 locos that are DCC, and the rest are DC. The conversion to DCC for the DC locos is one of those projects that will not get started for some time.

Got to finish building the layout first. Big Smile [:D]

If you're looking for a cheap, function only decoder, might I suggest this one: http://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/524-139

It's made for the Bachmann DCC onboard locos, but can work with others.

Ahhh noontime in the Coffee shop, I see Jerry, Ryan,Mike over at the corner table...BBQ rips today for lunch I see...better get some before FERGIE gets here, there won't be any left...those young guys can EAT!!

RYAN: I am on the Precison email list, so I get their announcements....are those locos sweet?? Too rich fro my budget though, I'll have to wait for a price adjustment or I hit megabucks lottery.

MIKE: I was hoping for a warmer Fall and Winter so we could save some $$ on heating oil. I have 4 cords of wood all stacked up back, we need to get that into the empty bay of the garage within the next month. We also have a La Nina setting up which usually brings a milder Winter to the Northeast...we shall see.

Time to get back outside, see you guys for supper.
Dick If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got!! Learn from the mistakes of others, trust me........you can't live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself, I tried !! Well now, since you are buying lunch today Inch, I might just take you up on some of that mater soup and a grilled cheese does sound like a great combo. I like to dip my sandwich in some of that soup along with some saltine crackers too.

Jeff, at $19.95 each the $$$ is attractive. My LHS sells most Walthers priced items at a 20% discount, so I might be able to get them for around $16.00 each. I will have to check.

Thanks for the tip!
