So that's why the darn SD40-2's haven't come yet!!! Give me my models!!!!!!!! Okay okay, So I had alittle talk with the big buy last night, and got him to stop it. In fact, it got up to 50 today! So Here goes:

A. I issue a full and complete apoligy for all inconvience caused by the Seriously Nasty Obnoxious Whitestuff. I further more promise that by July 1, 2005, all white stuff will dissappear from the 55th Latitude line down in the Continent of North America.

There, now, I demand my SD40-2's arrive on my door step tommarrow!!

Krump, Sure, so we're at a truce then?

But anyway, I got a little done on the layout again last night, got a little more track fixed up and can actually run a train around now again. I'm happy. Now I just have to get my buildings built.

I better get those SD's Der, and in one peice soon, or someone around here ain't going to be to happy!!

Teffy - I may consider making resin copies of the little diner after I kitbash it into a slightly larger structure and add some 'character' to it. Too bad we couldn't get pictures of all the coffee shop patrons and place them in the windows like the old tinplate passenger car models from long ago. I know, I know, who says we couldn' !!

Is it raining at your house? It's been raining for three days in Oklahoma. Oh well, it'll be over some time and we'll be complaining about how dry it is.
I ordered a new loco, an Atlas Master Gold SD-26 (goofy looking thing) sounds like it may be a while before the LHS gets it in though.
Can you believe that lady in PA? Oh well, it only serves to make her look dumb. I messed up on that GP-9, I really want a GP-9M.

Afternoon all -
Well, the on again / off again CFO has approved of me spending some more $$$ for a 5 gal bucket of Joint Compound.

We're trying to work things out... past weekend was good - no fights, etc.

Read in our Sunday paper on the 8th about how one of the 'higher-ups' in the FRA is also a MAJOR stockholder in UP and the field investigators for the FRA are being told to 'go easy' on the UP everytime they investigate a incident involving UP.

Heard a story on Fox News yesterday about a lady in the Pittsburgh PA area suing a RR claiming that the tracks were not marked as being active! In response, the news anchor at the end of the story said ' Lady, beware.... Cars driving on streets!'

Wish I had my digital camera Friday... saw a CSX freight as it was leaving the DeWitt yards w/ 3 loco's...3rd one was a C39-8 w/ CSXT reporting markings and the big Conrail Logo and symbol.

Seems as I now need to look into getting a page on Railimages.com so I can post pics of layout table progression and of the real ones I see by the house and at the yards. Over the past weekend, there were BNSF, UP, and CSX loco's doing the switching at the CSX yard in DeWitt NY.

Just in on Fox News... Feds to increase safety checks of UP......hope it works!

Well, time to leave work. I may check in later tonight...but doubtful. If not, I'll check in tomorrow while here at work.

Take care....

twhite (Tom), you don't live far from me, it would be fine to do some weathering for you. (or anyone else within driving distance)

There are draw backs of living in your parents house.
My mother's affraid we'll become a bigger robbing target if some one knows I have a few expensive locomtives here. She won't allow me to let anyone know our adress.
And I don't think someone will let you take their $$$ value object any place without knowing the adress at which it is being worked on. [:(]
Plus, I cant go to another persons house and do the work there. Thats not the way I get down. I wouldn't be able to focus correctly. And my weathering process is like real life-- it happens over a long time.

And we all wonder why the world is heading to "hell in a hand basket". I couldn't believe it when I came upon this story.
I don't know what is worse, that fact that someone is putting this on Ebay or that it might actually sell. And which is the sadder--the buyer or the seller?

Well as said no school today and also no water, but now for the Wednesday Report on Noah, alias Sven:

From: "the kid"

To: all officials in the hunt for Noah

Very short report today, Noah was last seen along the Wisconsin/ Upper Peninsula of Michigan border, being chased by Rosie-the-dog. He's apparently left W&S country for his love of snow....

Paul - I emailed you thru MRR, and if you have AOL, and you replied to my Hotmail address, the cyber space Gods and gurus at both MSN and AOL have created quite a mess and many times the emails between the two never get thru. . .I'll email you again with a different email address to reply to. . .

GATS show in Atlanta this weekend . Should be a good one. Like I need anything else right now except track and time ! Even the wife says - "Find the time !" Someone pinch me - I've got a keeper ! Or, she's being especially nice because of something she did that I just haven't discovered what - yet. . .Like she bought something real expensive, got a ticket, scratched my truck, or??

BTW - I'm looking for some Model Power (HO) Baldwin Shark B units - powered or dummy and in any paint scheme, if anyone has any to sell or trade. And I just said I don't need anything else. (there's a definite distinction between wants and needs)

Just picked up a little stainless steel sided typical looking diner (restaurant, not a rail car) - a real old kit - and I'm naming it the "Coffee Shop" and will have a little sign that reads "Lousy food, but great conversation" right on the siding near the entry.

Hope to stop by here more often from now on, as I enjoy the company, and the coffee's great. A warm welcome to all the newbees here. Lots of friendly folks. No flamers allowed ! First offense - do the dishes. Second offense - take out the trash. Third offense - clean the cat box, and you only get served decaf from now on. . .

Beautiful Fall day here down the hill from Tom - better get busy and trim the shrubs, fix the chainsaw, trim some trees, and blow the leaves into another pile - again. Later.

Good Morning all. That wind is still with us, but abated a bit. It wasn't a very unusual storm, just earlier than expected. For instance, the snow clearing budgets of the municipalities don't kick in until Dec 1. The Department of Highways snow clearing is set to start Dec 5th. So, the effects of the storm were far worse than would have been the case had it ocurred in the winter. Also, it stalled, so there was a great deal more snow than the forecast (which was mainly for rain) indicated.

Glad to say the well insulation project is done. Lots of off cuts of 1" foam for the layout [:-^][swg] It's one of those jobs that should have been done in the summer, but who wants to waste good weather doing chores?

Kris is off to the Harbour with her mom for a Dr. appointment, so I'm in charge.[:-,]
Looks as if I might get more building done on that access hatch.[yeah]

That said, Ta Ta For Now. It's a Brit thing, Bob.

Good Morning All:

Last night was a good evening, I put some more supports under the roadbed (as Tom suggested) in preparation for cutting the track and installing a trestle. I think that I'm going to do like Tom and just cut the roadbed to suit and put in a temparery track.

I've got to find some ceiling tiles for a rock cut around the drill track as it's close to a station on the main line that is about 1 3/4" higher. A rock gives me crediability as to having the two tracks that close together at that differance in height.

John:
What is TTFN?

Ed:
Do you live in a retirement community? I just scanned (looked at) the new pictures of the track and it looks a lot better then what I took before, thanks for the advise. Now to get them up-loaded tonight.

Flip:
I remember a post awhile back where you said something about driving a bus?

Paul:
Hang in there with the Spectrum loco as I've got a SP light mountain and it is a honey of a loco. The Soundtraxx decoder might have something to do with it but I'll never tell.

Teffy - if you want to amend your list to "partners in crime" rather than spouses... then perhaps you could add Noah and Sven... [:-^][:-^][:-^] - they're both in trouble here.

Paul - the canoe will not be very effective for Noah, as the lakes here are about to freeze over ( although I have seen canoe ice races... propelled by 4x4 quads

Noah - join me for a coffee (or a snowcone ?) - triple strength mocha today

cheers, krump

Well I had to go back and make aome notes. The way were going it won't be long and 200 will arrive.

Teffy; Sorry to hear about your mom. My mother had that surgery and it turned out great. She really could see better. My wife's name is Mary Ann. I tried to call the folks that I got the 2-8-0 from today. I got there machine, so left a couple of messages. I hope to hear from them before the GATs show.

Bill; YGM ????????

Ed; Both the 2-8-0s were new. The first just didn't run well at all. The second has a broken stud that the screw holding the rear of the boiler and cab down screws into. It can't really be repaired. I'll keep on trying to get a good one. I could keep the one I have now and be carefull picking it up. I'd like to get a couple more.

Didn't we have a young fellow from Oklahoma here? Seems like it wasn't too long ago.

Flip; Thanks for the info on your track cleaning car. I'll look for one.

Tom; I'll keep trying to get this thing with the Spectrums worked out. I've seen some running at train shows and I agree they do run well. This one runs good and if it wasn't for the loose boiler there wouldn't be a problem. One other thing that I noticed about both the locomotives is that when they are coupled close the wireing harness between the loco and tender lifts the front of the tender off the track. Did you have that problem, and if so how did you handle it?

Noah; Boy am I glade that I'm not in your snowshoes. Get in your canoe and point it south I'll leave word at the Texas border to let you in.

I'm off to bed. I'm getting to old for this getting up at 4 am.

As is too typical with me, I don't think I ever properly introduced myself. So my apologies for that.

My name is Lawrence and I'm a Hoosier. I have a small layout (8x11) at our cottage that I get to about every other weekend. It is freelanced Pennsy and it features K4 (I LOVE K4s!). I also have a modest test track set up at home, where I fiddle with engines and rolling stock the other times (when I'm not traveling). Because of the distance to my layout, I spend alot of time tuning my stock and working on weathering, etc. In another topic I mentioned that I'm thinking of upgrading my airbrush. I spend so much time on this aspect, I should really take the plunge and get a really good model. So any suggestions?

Anyway, model railroading keeps me sane in what is otherwise a totally chaotic life.

Regards,
Lawrence, the Pennsy Hoosier

Just dropped back in for a hot choccy before bedtime, and caught your item. It reminded me that Model Trains were briefly mentioned, and even with a video clip, on CNBC today. It was an article on Lionel filing for Chapter 11 bankcruptcy protection. The company's business is sound enough it seems. The problem is they have lost an action about misappropriation of designs, or something, and have to find $41 million!!!! Ouch, that'll leave a mark! Haven't heard anything else about this. Doubtless there's a thread or twoon it "out there", but I don't go on the rest of the forum these days. The coffee and company is just too good to miss in here.[^]
Good night, everyone, and God Bless.

Tom, I just passed the same point you're at. Scenery is fun, mainly because anything goes. If you make a mistake, a little more spraypaint will usually fix it. Thanks for the info on the Geeps, I'll look into them. Same problem here, a couple of locos apart on the workbench slowly getting all of the parts mixed up so I'll never get them back on the right one.

Hi All

I was on for 3 minutes tonight before AOL booted me off. The phone lines come and go but they were fine at the time.

After trying to report my phone problems for three weeks I finally was able to get through and report them.

The B I G news here is the opening of the Clinton Presidential Library on Thursday. Both former Presidents Clinton and Bush will be here and there is much excitement in the area.

I started a thread in the Trains.magazine forum because the old Rock Island Depot was saved and is being used as part of the new library complex.
It is an ok looking building but nice that it is being used.

Bedtime.

Later All. [8D]

Good Evening Everybody,
It was a good day in the mountains today. Hanging the fascia boards is progressing well. I've only got 3 more panels to cut and fit. Then I can run the Loconet cables and mount the UP-3 panels and then it's time for SCENERY. I'm looking forward to it. I've also got a Spectrum light mountain disassembled on the workbench and I'm looking at photos to pick out which one I want to do. Got to have something to pull the Branchline coaches, and it has to be Southern green.

Steve and Greg, welcome to the coffee shop. The coffee and tea are always hot and always good, and the conversation is good too. Stop in often and visit.

Greg, the P2K GP9's are supposed to be excellent. I don't run any of them, but I have a pair of their GP7's running and I really like them. I'm in Horribly Oversized too.

Der and Fergie, that sounds like quite a storm. I'm glad you all came through it OK. That drive doesn't sound like any fun at all. Fergie, did the other people make it in OK?

Bill, welcome back to the coffee shop. I know you've been really busy, but it's good to see you here again. The layout sounds like it will be super. I'll look forward to seeing the Sharks in L&N colors. The Southern didn't run mikados and light mountains into Murphy, but on my version of history they did. Let's see, the first rule is: It's My Railroad. I think that pretty well covers it.

Lupo, I'm jealous. My January MR might be here in another 2 or 3 weeks. It sounds like another good one.

Paul, I can't believe the bad luck you're having with the 2-8-0's. Don't give up on them. They really are super little locos. I've got 2 of them up and running and they're great. Keep trying, the good ones are out there.

Teffy, I hope your Mom's cataract surgery went well. The surgery and the recovery are a lot quicker and easier than they used to be, but it's still surgery and no fun. Louise and Shawna have both had it done on both their eyes, and I remember. I hope it went very well and your Mom recovers quickly.

I'd better go for now, it's getting late and tomorrow will be busy. I've got one small tree to take down and then I need to rototill the area for the Asian garden we're going to put in. If I get that done quickly enough I'll get the rest of the fascia hung.

RUN, SVEN, RUN!!!! They're gaining on you.

Have a good evening everybody,
Tom

Greg, the thing is that here in the Coffee Shop you're dealing with a small subset of all the people who post on the General Discussion Forum. We have only about 20 regulars. No, no Okies yet. Now if you ask that question out on the main General Discussion Forum I'm sure there are others there. The reason that sometimes people think the Coffee Shop is bigger that it actually is, is that this thread has been going continuously for 6 months. That's how we've racked up so many posts/views. But in any particular day we may have from 5-30 posts. So the traffic and audience is somewhat limited.

The talk in the service station this p.m. while the snows were being installed (haven't sprung for dedicated rims and DIY, maybe I should) was that the towers that came down were all rusted out from the inside. I understand that much of North America's transmission line infrastructure leaves a lot to be desired in terms of upkeep, rather like the roads. [V] But, you are absolutely right, the ice build up on power lines does much the same as it does at sea with rigging and superstructure, if I'm not mistaken Fergie. And the power companies don't have "jolly tars" to run up the towers to chip the ice off so they don't capsize![:D]

QUOTE: It’s probably good that you’re redoing the access hatch. If you think it doesn’t provide enough room now, just wait until you have scenery to contend with too.

Absolutely, although my fond hope is that the scenery will sort of build out away from the edges of the hatches making the seams seem less obvious. Still, as much elbow and wrist room as posible is the ideal. I'm thinking of laying in the "roof" slab, and building the "wall" up to it so that the wall will really be the handle for the hatch, and the roof will rest on supports provided by the "foamhenge" on the sides and back. Too much work outside of railroading getting in the way of progress I'm sorry to say![sigh]
Well, it's time to look towards dinner[dinner] and feeding Rosie-the-dog too.

Good Afternoon Coffee Clubbers,

Well, so much for my theory of posting more frequently to avoid having to write long epic posts like this one. The Coffee Shop seems like it goes dormant for hours, then I look away and when I’m back, bam, a dozen or more posts have snuck in.

Anyway, weather remains nice but warm down here SOB. Up in the high 80’s about now, sun shining, a few fluffy clouds.

We were going to make a border run today. We have some things that we need to take care of, plus a bit of recreational shopping. But junior woke up sick this morning and we didn’t want to leave him (with his grandparents) with him feeling bad, so we’re on temporary hold pending seeing how quick he recovers. It’s nothing big.

Paul B – That’s a shame that you’re having so much trouble getting a 2-8-0 that runs well. [:(] Should I assume we’re talking used units here? Of course it did give you an excuse to go back to the show! And now you continue with the same plan to go to GATS! Can’t you just say to MaryAnn, “Honey, can I go to the train show?”, instead of working up this elaborate ruse “Honey, you won’t believe this, but I have to go back to the show, the engine I just traded in still has a problem.” [:D]

Bill M – great to hear from you again. Sounds like you’ve been a busy boy. But between finishing the shop, preparing the train room and starting a new business, I can see why you’ve been away. The plan for the new layout sounds great, quite an undertaking.

My November issue came a week ago. My December issue is probably three weeks away yet.

Hello and welcome to the new guys who have dropped in over the past couple of days, Greg (trainwreck) and steveii. Sorry if I missed anyone else. It's getting hard to keep track around here.

Teffy, not much progress to take pictures of, I’m afraid. I’m in the middle of replacing that section of main and the engine service area that I tore out a couple of days ago. After that it’ll be more tearout and replace. Makes for dull photos.

Fergie – glad you survived the drive. That’s nice that you know some people there with the club. Good opportunity to see something new and maybe operate a bit.

I see that Adrian had to call in for Jim again. I'll assume that means he still has AOL isp problems. Not like him to stay offline this long. He must be going through withdrawal.

That's about all. I'll see how much traffic there is between now and this evening. I'll probably be back.

Hasta luego,

Ed
