I'm also waiting for my clothes to dry. I figured with the dryer at home still on the fritz I'd take advantage of the situation. I guess my first job of the day come Monday will be to fix the beast.

I got over to see the club the other night but no rail acitivity as they are in the midst of making their third layout. But that's OK as I met some really decent guys and got an open invite to drop in any time when in town. They have a good location as it is right beside the Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia CBNS servicing facility.

Good Morning All:

Mom's surgery went well. My sister has been with her all day yesterday and when they go to the Dr's office this afternoon we'll drive up and bring her here until after Thanksgiving.

The second cup of tea sure is a good way to start the day.

I'm still cleaning the house - I wish I was more effecient. I should have listened to mom when she was telling my sister how all of this was done.

John:
I can't believe how fast the work is going, but then you're only in 1/2 scale (that's 1/2 HOOOOOO + or -) Look at that, a kinda smiley.

Back when we were showing dogs, if one of the puppies had a problem we'd take it to the Vet and get enought medicine for the whole litter. It's a shame that you can't do the same for people.

I've been to Baraboo many times. We stay their when we go to the Wisconsin Dells. The place is almost a northern Disney Land.

Good Evening Coffee Clubbers,

Well it’s been an interesting day around here, to say the least. While we can’t complain of serious illnesses or injuries, like a couple of you and your families have gone through recently (or are still going through) we make up for it in volume. First you need to understand that we live right next door to my in-laws. We have two small houses, with one fence around the two, that kind of function as one extended household although they’re really separate. With the in-laws are Fran’s two youngest brothers (early 20’s) and one young niece, about the same age as junior.

Fran was down with some kind of infection most of last week. She’s about back to normal now, but on Tuesday morning, junior came down with a messy case of fever/upset stomach/diarrhea. [xx(] Had to take him to the lab first thing this morning for tests/analysis, then to the doc’s again this afternoon (3rd visit). Appears to be just a severe bacterial infection, let’s say a bad case of Montezuma’s Revenge. [:)]

Meanwhile the two brothers have been incubating something for the past two days. One is just self medicating with aspirin, and soldiering on to class at the local college. But by the time I got back from the lab it was obvious that the other brother needed to go to the doc’s. He’s got some throat infection. Okay, back home and relaxing and the school calls. We need to go pick up the niece who’s broken out in a rash. Straight to the doc’s, who’s considering offering me a volume discount, and it looks like she has measles. [:0] I don’t think any of the kids have had it yet, so who knows whether it will go through the household over the next couple of weeks.

I’ve been to the pharmacy so many times in the last three days that they’re starting to give me strange looks like they think I’m a drug addict or something. [;)]

But enough about that, wonder how Teffy’s M-I-L eye operation went today. While that kind of operation is getting to be almost routine these days, the body never really likes being cut on.


Flip, the Corona’s weren’t strong enough today. Had to resort to Cuba Libres.

John – I like the way that hatch cover worked out. I’m looking forward to you starting to carve. Did you get the shop vac back from your daughter yet?

Close, it's FERROMEX. Second largest railroad in Mexico. 26% owned by UP. See also the Nov 2003 Trains Magazine for more info. Here's a shot of one of their locos. I think it's a GP40-2, but I'm not sure. That's dark green, not black, in the color scheme.

Noah: Guess what I was able to pick up at a very good price today? A Kato SD40 (not a Dash2, but very nice, almost new and at a great price).[^]

So, being in a good mood, I consulted with Rosie-the -dog, and she says it's alright to let you have the locos, even though you have yet to comply with the exact instructions[:D]
So here you go, all reassembled and everything.
We put the caboose in because we don't know what rules you run by.[:D]
If you find there are parts missing, such as Q Radiator fans, pieces of the Dynamic Brake Assemblies, stuff like that, please apply to the Rail Transportation Board of the State of Illinois. We understand that they may have some useful information.[(-D] Der&Rosie-the-dog.

Glad to report that the "rock wall" has been essentially roughed in for the upper tunnel. The re-designed access hatch works quite well, Ed.

I haven't had an In 'n Out 'Double-double w/ grilled onions in over 10 yrs (when I last lived in OC). I'm hoping for a feeeze tonite so I can stick my tongue onto the monitor and let it get stuck there all night long and just pretend the burger's real. . .Damn that brings back good memories. And their fries. . .just as good.

The best burger for the money anywhere on the planet. I still remember where they were - what freeway exit, what hobby shop they were close (enough) to, and so on. And to think I just ate a can of pan fried corned beef hash and eggs. Yuck.

At the moment it is status quo on the isp. I have to have time to do anything and working 10 hour shifts five or six days a week does not allow me time to do much looking.

One good note to pass along. The LHS I thought closed down just moved. It was in a ritzy area and probally was having a hard time paying the rent. I have some things on Saturday's "To Do List" but if I can work in a stop there, I will.

And now the lastest in the continuing saga of the consolidations. Brad of Brad's Trains called today and appoligised for taking so long to get in touch with me. He was very nice and listened to my tail of woe. I'm going to meet him at GATS in Ft. Worth this weekend. He said he'd bring another loco and exchange. So I'll try again. Maybe the third time will be a charm.

Teffy, I live about 20 miles west of Baraboo WI, in a town of 10,000 called Reedsburg. I railfain mainly the Wisconsin & Southern, there three times weekly local that comes to town. I will go to other cites farther down the WSOR's Reedsburg sub, as it ends at my town, and I'll chase it back up here to Reedsburg. One spot has a real nice long bridge too. I also will occasionally go up the the CP line in Wisconsin Dells, about 15 miles North East of me, on there major artery throught WI. It's also the Route of the Amtrak Empire builder.

Well, didn't get anymore model railroading done last night, so I really have nothing to report. Guess I'll be heading off then, see you all tommarrow(Friday!!).

Warm, cloudy, and drizzley out this way today. Bought a 1gl bucket of Joint compound last night, along w/ a bunch of various sized plastic putty knives - all for less than 15.00. Next time, I may go for the big 5gal bucket of compound - sells for under 11.00 at one of out HIS (Home Improvement Stores).

Theres no snow here, but it 's cold as hell. I may actually have to put on a whole shirt.
Ya see, I always walk around wearing tank tops, even in the winter. I just ate a bomb turkey wing dinner I prepared. Probably the best i ever made. [dinner]
I'm feeling okay, not too bad.
Father's at the bar again, so I have a uninterupted night of working on the layout. [:-^] Lately I've been relaying alot of the lower line's track. The first attemps were not up to my standard. I rushed through it. Now , its going smoother.

Teffy--My maternal grandmother had catarack surgery on her eyes last week. She says she was woke during it! I didn't know that was even possible. I'm not too close to her. I just hear family members talk about her.

Jim-- A while ago, we up graded our internet conection to Comcast high speed. We used to have Earthlink dial up and a second phone line for use of the internet. Well we figured it only cost like $5 more per month for straight high speed service. The combined cost of extra phone line and Earthlink was almost equivilant to this Comcast high speed cable connection! Its like 50 times faster than 56K and its always on. It allows you to watch streaming video too.

Time to get a drink. Butterscotch snopps, perhaps.

So hear I am after midnight looking at my trains, when I had hoped to spend a little time with my (old) airbrush on a Pennsy GP7. Tomorrow is already shot. Oh well, it's nice to look--and the weekend is getting close...

Tom; Thanks for the tip. I'll give it a try. I'll second the advice on the air brush. I use the Pasche, mmyself. I've got 3 at work that I use there and 4 at the house. Need less to say I like them. I have a selection of tips for them. That's one reason I have so many. I don't have to take the time to change. It dosen't take that much time to change a tip, I just get lazy. It sounds like Shawna is feeling much better. I'm glade to hear that.

Bill; The dinners would be great. There must be a way to put the gang in pictures. I'll see if I can get a proper picture of myself and send it to you. Try it and see what happens.

JP; You sound much better. I hope that things keep on improveing.My best wishes as all ways.

Good evening Everybody,
Today was another great day in the mountains. I didn't get as much done as I'd hoped to, but that's OK.The tree is down and the mess cleaned up and hauled down the hill to the burn pile. I got a bit more done on the fascia panels. The rest of the day went to odds and ends. That's just how it goes sometimes

Tomorrow will be very busy. Bill was going to come up to run trains, but I had to beg off. I've got a number of things I've got to do for Shawna, including going to Gainesville to bring her up here to do a presentation at the high school for one of her classes. Then, depending on her schedule, I may have to take her back. The forecast for tomorrow doesn't include any railroading.

We are going to go to the GATS show in Atlanta on Saturday. It should be a good time. And you never know what you'll find at a train show.

Jim, that's pretty cool that they used the depot for part of the Clinton Library. It's good that more towns and cities are preserving them and finding good uses for them. Too bad more of them couldn't have been saved.

PennsyHoosier, opinions vary widely on airbrushes, but here's mine. I use a single action Binks Wren with an "A" tip, which is the finest tip. It's very simple, easy to clean and maintain and does everything I need an airbru***o do.I've tried several double action brushes and went back to the Binks every time. For me, they were just too much trouble. So my recommendation would be a good (Binks, Badger or Pasche) single action brush.

Paul, what I usually do with the wires to the tender is to twist them 3 or 4 times. This takes up a little of the excess length and the "cable" I just made now has enough body that I can shape into a curve with a pair of tweezers to keep it out of the way. Sometimes I'll cut a very thin strip or 2 of electrical tape ( a bit less than 1/16"wide) and wrap the cable in a place or 2 with the tape strip. Usually 2 turns around the cable is enough. Trim the free end with a sharp #11 blade and put just a drop of superglue on it to fasten it to itself.

Bill, I think the resin diners are a great idea. One of those by the interchange yard in Murphy would have saved a lot of people a lot of walking up the hill into town. I believe I can find a place for one.

Big Girl, I saw the piece about the sandwich on CNN this morning. Very bizarre.

Aggro, that is a good looking cab forward. The weathering may take time, but it's time well spent. It looks super.

JP, I'm glad things are going better, and I hope they will continue to. We're all thinking about you and hoping things work out.

Ed, my secret weapon for keeping track of the little bitty pieces are the clear plastic boxes Kadee trucks used to come in, plus a few larger boxes I got from MicroMark. Anything that comes off or comes out of storage to go on a model goes into a box until it's time to use it. Otherwise they'd all run away.

Better go for now, it's getting late and tomorrow is going to be busy.

More threads than you care to look at, I’m afraid. I ducked most of that just like the threads on “I hate the UP for its licensing practices”. But one of the Lionel/MTH threads garnered about 250 posts in only a week or so. That was (at the time) about 10% of the number of posts here in the Coffee Shop in six months! Whether or not they were guilty, you’ve got to wonder about the amount of the award for ‘damages’. I thought our courts just went that crazy on medical claims.

Paul, that’s tough when new locos have problems like that. A number of recent steam releases in N had a lot of problems when they first came out. Most have been improved on subsequent releases. But now I tend to read the forums to see how the community reacts to the new releases and what they report before running out and buying anything new. Heck, even my Spectrum 2-8-0 has to go back because of too narrowly gauged wheels. And it ran great on the test track.


Teffy – Good luck with your Mom’s eye surgery tomorrow. Hope things go well.

No, we just live in a little town on the coast. I doubt that there are a dozen expats in the entire area. I’ve met two, but they claim there are 8-10 others. The really big expat communities are up in the central part of the country. There are supposedly 60-70,000 Americans and Canadians living around Lake Chapala, just south of Guadalajara. Another 6-10,000 in San Miguel de Allende. Lots more, principally in the north part of Baja California (just south of San Diego), and along the eastern shore of the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) down as far as Puerta Vallarta. As much as has been written up in the press lately about retiring in Mexico, those areas are seeing a lot of new interest, with the resulting rise in housing prices.

Good idea. A lot of the guys here have accounts there. It’s usually pretty reliable. I know they’ve had some problems lately with their dedicated server. They just posted that they’re going to change to a different server. Shouldn’t cause any problems although it may mean a short downtime when they make the switch. They’re still working out the details.
