Hi All

This is probally my last post until next Sunday. I am officially on vacation now for 2 days, then Thursday and Friday are paid holidays.

Our weather is something that Jack the Ripper would love. [:0] You talk about foggy, it is unreal. [B)]

Paul, I am finding "weight" here in the forums. I have gained about 16 pounds working day shift. Next year, NO Halloween Candy for Jim. [B)] Time for some carrots, lots of salad, and less sweets. [B)]

Well time to get off of here and get some things done.

I would love to send you all some candy from the candy shop at Branson, Missouri, but Duchess won't let me stop. Let me tell you, the Black Walnut Brittle is "to die for". [;)] Their fudge (all flavors) is awsome too. <Darn, now my sweet tooth is acting up>

Lucky discovery today. The VIA Rail passenger cars I got at the show are all Rapido coupler equipped, so I need to convert at least one couple in to Micro-Trains type to be compatible with the locos I have. However, as I was getting ready to clean the trainroom floor, a small black object caught my eye. It turned out to be a non-operating Micro-Trains type coupler! It must have been in one of the boxes that the coaches came in, and have fallen out when I opened them up. So, now I have the lead coach able to couple, and have run the consist around a bit. Those Con-Cor trucks are sure finicky, or the coupler swing isn't right, because the lead coach wants to ride up on turnouts where other stock just sails through. I haven't checked the guage on that truck either. Something to think about tomorow.

Hi again, everyone - and thanks for the suggestions and tips! Thanks for the coffee, Krump![:)] The cinnamon rolls are great here (glad I got one just before sNoah got that last one)!

I'm going to be running that 'Horribly Oversized' [;)] - got started with it eons ago, and with my big hands, N's kind of too hard not to mangle... I need to go through my storage unit to find all the boxes of MRR stuff, and for that, I'm hoping for a warm spell (may take a while since I'll have to move all the boxes out and re-organize to find all the right boxes).

A couple of years ago, I went to a trainshow in St. Louis. I think it was maybe sponsored by the McDonnell-Douglas train group (which now may be the Boeing train group, I suppose). Now, if it had been right after a payday, I'd probably have filled my car trunk...

Main thing I will need to budget for may be better and/or more track and switches. I'll have to take some of my current track in to the local store to figure out if I have code 100 or 83. A while back when I got the track, I think there was only one code (unless you bought custom track and switches). Biggest decision then was brass or nickel silver. (Better be careful or I'll get retired out of this group, huh?) [;)]

I do appreciate the info on the newer brands of engines. Anyone know how the Walthers GP9M is? I'd been looking at it, but would like to hear others' experience with the Walthers' engines. Comments?

It's been a good weekend - I got track laid, trains run, and some planning on some station placing. I found an old Sydam station and it'll fit on the mainline as a way-station. We've got mom until at least Dec 3rd, and the eye is doing well. The doctor says the other eye should be done in about 2-3 months.

I think there are only a few actual people behind all of this stuff, but they have a lot of identities, and every time someone wants to say something against MTH, bam, there they are.

I have never had a problem with differing opinions. I actually want them to be heard. It's the hard line rhetoric and the antagonistic tone of these few that bother me. I'm starting to get the sense that for at least one of these guys it is getting personal. I dont mind taking the heat for saying things that some people don't like.

What these diehard MTH fans don't realize is that even though their side won in court, they are losing in the court of public opinion. Divide the O gauge world in half, which may be overly generous to MTH, but when you add in the opinions of the HO and N scale guys, the balance really tips.

Let's hang tough, these guys will go away when they understand that they aren't winning any converts to their way of thinking.

Thanks BigBoy, for a while there it seemed like I was turning corners and hitting concrete, but I realize that there indeed are one or two guys with multiple identities. It's sad because they bring down the quality of the forums.

Well, I took my P2K Special Edition SD45 to a friend's house. He put her on the track and I was amazed that she's as quiet as a Kato! My friend examined it and showed me that the Special Edition units use "Kato Clone" motors and drives instead of the regular "Athearn Clone" motor and drive, which on the regular P2Ks are also nice runners. I can't complain, LifeLike got it right!

Decent run up to Truro in the sunshine. Lopped off and sawed up two pine branches that were storm dammaged, heaved a set of summer tires into storage, put felt feet on our daughter's couch, and got off to pick up the ladies, all in 15 minutes!
They had had a good show, and there was student help to unpack and pack up as the event was in the local agricultural college. The students volunteer for this every year, apparently.
Philly cheese steak burrito for dinner, excelent. [tup] [dinner]. Coffee was ho hum....not as good as here!

Actually, after a bad experience with one today, I don't care for them anymore. They included 8 rung ladders with the kit, but the positioning pins on the ladders were not only too wide but not at the right heigth to fit the ends![:(!] I just shook my head and put everything back in the box.[:(] That's why I like Intermountain and Red Caboose better, in fact I have a IM covered hopper kit waiting to be built as soon as I get a etched-metal running board for it. The box didn't even include one!! That's another gripe I have about kits, is it too much trouble for them to check that everything's unbroken and all there before they sell them?


Anyways, I've decided to start again on the Modern Burlington Route because I already have some modern equipment, and the idea is still interesting to me, no matter if I'll sometime have to order custom details or paint everything myself. (Since all I'll be able to have for a while is a few modules anyways, I might as well lear to airbrush while I can't operate...)

Hi Gang; It's been another rainy day. Everything is soggy and damp.We just had to go into town to Tractor Supply to get a blanket cover for our 30 year old mare. When we went out to feed she had a very runny nose. I mean like someone had turned on the fauset. Anyway, $50 later she has an early Christmas present. The runny nose had stopped while we were gone.

Tom; I'll have to have surgarey to replace the ear drum in my left ear. Other wise we're all OK. Now that I have a 2-8-0 that runs good I'll have to look into weathering it. I used to jump right into weathering , but I guess I'm getting old or something. I think Ill put it off for awhile. I've got so much else to do first.

Feggie; So you'll be at sea for Christmas. Bummer. Are you going to have a Christmas before you leave? That would be nice. My Christmas didn't arrive for me untill late Febuary when I was in Viet Nam. When it did I put up a tree that my folks sent and totally enjoyed it.

Good Afternoon Everybody,
It's been a rainy day in the mountains today. Except for the big Pre-Turkey Day grocery store run, it's been very quiet. I'm heating up a really good cup of coffee in the microwave. Haven't even been downstairs to look at the railroad today, but that's OK.

Bill and I went down to the GATS show in Atlanta yesterday. It was pretty good. There didn't seem to be as many vendors or as many really good deals as in past shows, but we still both found some stuff we were looking for. I picked up a couple of Branchline coaches for a good price and that was cool. On the way back we went throught Woodstock and Holly Springs and checked out the L&N depots in both towns. Both have been restored and are very well done. I need to get back down there on a bright sunny day, camera in hand. They're too pretty not to photograph.

PennysHoosier, I think we all have those days, when chores, work, life in general gets in the way. I'm planning on getting downstairs to the railroad later, but it may be just to look and think about what's next. I tend to have several projects underway at the same time and several more in the planning stage. I don't know if that's the best way to do it, but it seems to be how things have evolved. At least there is always something to do, even if some days I don't get to any of it.

VSmith, the burgers look great. Did they have places in San Diego? I was out there in the mid '60s and Louise lived in San Diego in the late 80s and early 90's. Neither of us remember them down there. It could just be our memories aren't what they used to be.

Teffy, I'm glad your Mom's surgery went well. Cataracts are very insideous. You don't realize how badly they've affected your vision until they are gone and the vision is restored.

Noah, the Wisconson Dells sounds like Daytona during Speed Week or Bike Week. The locals know where to stay away from and how to navigate around those places on the back roads.

Flip, A green B&O loco pulling a blue consist sounds good to me. The first rule is it's your railroad. I like that rule. Just because the Southern didn't run mikes and mountains into Murphy doesn't mean I can't. I actually like the Branchline kits. I tend to use what I've got for weights. I'll use tape weights, pennies or whatever. Since Red Caboose and intermountain are concentrating on RTR, I'm glad to have someone manufacturing well detailed kits.

Jim, isn't "Run Silent, Run Deep" a great movie. With a story by Ned Beach, and Gable and Lancaster starring in it, how could it be anything else? I taped it a long time ago and it's a keeper.

Fergie, thanks for mentioning your success with the truck reamer. I've been thinking about trying one, and now I will. You have quite a To Do list to get done before you head out again. My list never gets shorter, the cast of characters just changes. we have Environmentally Safe Water Solids down here too. Most of the year we keep them in the freezer to cool tea. Somehow I don't think that's the kind you're talking about though.

JimRCGMO, welcome back to the hobby and welcome to the coffee shop. It's a nice place to hang out and have a cup or two. The Proto2000s and Proto1000s are excellent locomotives., as are the Bachmann Spectrums. Shop the ads in MR and on the web. There are good deals available especially on stuff thats been out a while. There were a lot of P2K diesel switchers and FA-2 s at the GATS show yesterday in the $50.00 to $60.00 range. They are good models.I've seen the GP7's priced around there too.

Paul, I'm glad the health news was good for both of you. Didn't you say you might have to have ear surgery? Has this news changed that? I'm also glad that you finally got a good 2-8-0. When they're right they're really nice.

Ed, how is your family doing? Is everybody on the mend? I hope so.

Well, I got a little start on that new building kit I bought, it's the building I'm going to use for the new Plastics company on my layout. It's one of the hardest kits I've built though. It's one of those pikestuff kits, where you have to cut many things your self. But not the ones where you cut on the lnes the give you either, this one you have to cut other places too, as it's a combination of severalt of there other kits. It's refreshing to work on a building again, I haven't done it for a while. I should go work on it a little more later.

I've also been going over (and over and over and over) in my mind about my diorama, and I'm gettign really close to ready to begin. Next time we go to Madison I need to stop at the LHS and get some scenery supplies, and I'll be ready to go.

Also downloaded the Atlas Right Track layout planning software from the internet, and will try to get a track plan up soon if I can help it. Maybe even today. I also got to work on that logo for the ARK sometime here, boy I didn't realize today was so busy! Better run!

I haven't set foot in that place in 5 years.
I have no need to.
My LHS here in Whitby is cheaper & it's a 10 minute drive vs 45 - 60 minutes.

Maybe they've changed, I don't know & don't really care.
For years I alwyas thought the train store on Mt.Pleasant was the place to shop.
My Dad knew George personally.
I just don't see the need to waist my time when & if I need anything, I'll order it through my LHS.

Just wanted to share that I just received the P2K Limited Edition SD45 in SCL! I won it on Ebay from ModelTrainStuff. Price: $55! I had checked the local price on this same unit which was $110. It's a nice looking unit.

Fergie -just read your 2nd post. Brought back old memory. Had an old fridge in Miami at my store. This was back about 1960. The freezer section didn't have a door and the rime would accumulate. I used to make snowballs{iceball} in June/July and throw them at trucks as they passed. The evidence would disappear quickly.
