Thanks to a warm SW wind today, the temp is now 67F!!! It won't stay that way for long though, MIKE's weather is headed our way later this week.

I should have some photos for you guys soon, there loaded on the PC, now I have to get VISTA, and/or IE7 to behave and let me post them.

Yesterday, the FP9 shell arrived from Central Hobbies. I also received in the same box, from the Atlas Master Loco Series, and undecorated GP-38, model #9100, Early Version Locomotive-Low Nose. The drive from this unit will be mounted under the FP9 shell, as this is identicle to the FP9 drive used in the late 40's and early 50's.

Rains stopped, now the temps are dropping. It was 58 when I posted bout 5:30 this morning, it's down to 42 now. with a lite WNW breeze. May need a extra log or two on the fire tonight. Also getting abit of sun right now

I'm back from my appointment with the Dr today, nothing new to report on my prostate condition, they still haven't determined whether it's simply enlarged or if it's cancer. Still waiting for their findings.

In the meantime, I think I'll be able to do some railroad work this week. Tonight is out because I've got to haul a carload of screaming kids around town for their trick or treating. I'm going dressed as the driver. lol. I'll be hualing a pirate, a ghost, a princess and something that looks like Darth Vader. While I like kids, I don't relish being stuck with them for hours at a time, especially when I could be doing something constructive, like wiring a turnout or preparing a locomotive for a decoder. But, I guess we all have to do our part.

Scott, sorry to hear about your friend.  We lost a couple classmates to accidents in high school and you're right, it has a major effect on the class.

Ryan, mine is next month, and next year I will get a full course turkey dinner for my birthday.

Still no broadband at home, that's why I haven't been posting much.  The cable company made the mistake of sending me a survey form to complete about how satisfied I am(not) with their service.  I let them have it with both barrels ending with something about how DISH TV and DSL are looking better everyday.  Probably won't help, but I feel better.

Break has been over for ten minutes, better get back to work.  See you.

Trick or treat tonight with the kids, and giving out candy on the front porch, I will be dressed in my gorilla costume to scare all the little kiddies.  Bruha ha ha ha haaaaaa…..

Dick, you hit the nail on the head. I think retirement will be a passing fad by the time I reach that age. Hopefully the house note will be paid off by then and we can afford to live on our savings and such. Our expenses should be much lower too, but like you said, at least another 20 years to work on saving a few pennies before then, most likely another 25 or more before we have the $$ to retire.

Scott, sorry to hear about your friend, so our prayers go out to you, your friends, and family.

Mike, sorry about your friend too! Prayers going your way too!

Der John, thanks for the nice BD banner! Great idea using those end drawer units, we are looking for something to store all our LP’s too.

Until I was about 8 years old I thought going to people’s door asking for candy was just a part of my birthday party on Halloween!

PC, it’s your birthday today too? I think some people got it mixed up, it’s MY birthday today.

Paul, by the time I catch up, you’ll still be ahead of me. I did get a gift cert to the local train shop Train Buddy here in Wake Forest from the CFO, so on my flex Friday off this week I will be making a pit stop there in the morning. What’s the commercial shoot all about?

Scott: This is a rough time for you and your school mates. All ai can say is hang in there and the hirt will pass. As long as you have your friends memory in your hart he will be around. I'm the only one of the three that started flight training that is still alive. The other two were lost in Viet Nam. I still remember them and keep them with me.

Ryan: Gee just 19 more and you'll be with me. Hope that you get lots of MRR stuff to play with.

You guys that are computer savy are really confusing me with all the talk. Me, I know where the on button is and that's about it. If it comes on fine if it dosen't I have to call on a friend for help.

I've got to go out and do some work for the company. They are doing some comercial shoots tomorrow and I have to patch up the Alamo.

Howdy hey everyone.

I wish I could bring better news from my forefront...But things have taken a very extreme shift around these parts; not only for me, but for the whole 2007 class at Westminster High School.

On Friday, unfortunately, one of my friends was killed in a car accident at 7:10am. He was pronounced dead at the scene. I have a funeral to attend tomorrow; I went to the viewing last night and broke down, reminisced with friends, gave my prayers...So, I pay my last respect to him tomorrow. There aren't many people in the class of 2007 that didn't know him...

And I no longer have a date to Homecoming...Her parents are going through a divorce, and so she'll be at her father's house that weekend...But hopefully I'll get to meet her soon...I'd really like to. And don't worry Dick, when I do meet her...I'll be treating her like a queen; but she doesn't have to like trains to receive that treatment.

Thoughts & prayers for your freind & his family! Sorry to hear of your loss. I had a next door neighbour seriously injured in a motor cycle accident a few years ago. Unfortunately his parents had to make the decision to turn off the life support, I watched his mother fall apart after the decision. Really hard to watch!

On a more positove note, can you remind us poor Australians what a Homecoming is?!

Just practicing for when I retire. I just spoke to the HR guy that handles that and said 2 Febuary  if the CFO says ok. I also found out that I have 4 wks vacation that I can take before I retire but after I retire I won't get paid for more then 2 days. Figure that out if you can.

I don't like the time change either.
 We had a freind that worked for a local collage retire a spell bacy. He had so much vacation and sick day built up. That the last six months he had the job, he didn't have to go to work.

Jeff,, I don't care for retiement  anymore. It wasn't to bad when I could drive, but now I'm stuck at home, baby sitting grandkids. I luv the kids, but everyday of them is to much.

Dick,,, the wife said  that now, she has to work to 68 to get full retirement, under the present rules.

Scott,, sorry to hear bout your friend there, know it's rough. We went to a funeral  not to long ago for 3 friends killed in one wreck. We'll keep the family in our thoughts.

DER,,, what kinda project are you and the Kris making??  I've tried some weeds that look like that around here for trees, haven't had much luck so far, but still trying. Got some more from this year to play with.

Shortly after we came here in 1998, a large hotel in Halifax did a major reno.  Later, a bunch of the furniture that they had heaved was auctioned off.  We got 10 of those two drawer seat units that go at the ends of double beds for $10 each.  We kept 4, our friends took a couple, and we sold off the rest locally to cover our cost.  We use two in our bedroom as window seats, and the other two in our living room also as window seats, but with added foam as a cushion to raise the height. I built a kindling and small logs box for the end nearest the wood stove, and then one of the units goes against it. The other is at right angles, like a L.  I filled in the gap at the point of the L with a box I built.  The cover comes off to get at the storage (our LP and 45 collection), and a table lamp sits on top.  It’s now time to replace the hotel’s units, and that’s the building project. We are copying the style of the book case that is at the other end of the room; hopefully the new window seats will harmonize with the bookcase.  That’s oak, so I’m using oak plywood where it matters on this project. I hope it will be photogenic enough to show you when it’s done.  Essentially the new window seats will be garages for six round wicker baskets that take the place of the drawers in the old units. A rectangular basket, plus the old kindling box re-worked, will take the place of the old kindling box, and a haphazard conglomeration of Clementine boxes and coffee cans that hold fire-lighting and cleaning supplies presently. My carpentry skills are pretty minimal, as are my tool choices.  However, many of the critical edges will be covered by coving similar to that the bookcase builder used, as we are following the same design.

Do you have any goals set for the winter?

…Let’s see; keeping warm would be right up there…then there’s …but you meant mrr.  Well, there’s lots of vision, but goals are supposed to be measurable, and I don’t know I need that pressure!

I’d like to get the acres of blue foam covered with rocks and earth.  As I was telling Dick, I’ve decided on a far great ratio of glued sawdust ground cover to plaster rocks than I started to build. The will make the access hatches much lighter, and easier to pick up when necessary.

The clocks that get forgotten around here are the ones in the car and van. Still have to do the car one, as we haven’t been out in it yet since Saturday.  That breakfast plate looks bonny, BTW. (Yours too Jeff!)

 

PC:  That’s great looking food…keep it coming!

There used to be a town here in Indiana that was divided.  Half the town was in one time zone, the other half was in another time zone.  To add to the confusion, only one of those time zones observed daylight savings time, so for half the year the two sides of town were an hour apart, the rest of the year they had the same time.

…Sounds like Lloydminster on the Alberta / Saskatchewan border. Sack doesn’t do summer time, and the border runs down the middle of town.  I’m not sure what they do about it.

 

Nigel: Dick’s remarks, nice work on the backdrop too.  I know that one is supposed to do that first, right after the benchwork, but I didn’t. I figure on my shelf layout I can retro fit a styrene backdrop, and even get it to curve for some of the corners, if I’m lucky.  I’ve not done one in N before, but understand that it can be a whole lot lower that most HO backdrops tend to be.

 

Jeff:  How did you get that depth of field in the shot of the 5 F Units? They look great!
