IHC: I have a couple of IHC locomotives (Heavy Mountain and 0-8-0). They are full of detail. I haven’t had any trouble with them. IHC seems to do well with details. Their plastic models are full of tiny details. Kinda a love-hate relationship putting one together.

The biggest problem I have with steamers is with the drive rods locking up. Even the more expensive models that I had did it eventually. I just finally got tired of having to fix them all the time.

Diesels are fine, but I prefer the steam engines and all the trouble I can get into modeling them, LOL.

I went the steam route years ago and eventually came back to diesel. I find that the diesels are less problematic. There's less that can go wrong. And with my medical problems, I can't handle fine details anymore.

Thanks for the comments on the acquisitions. So, what’d I do on Saturday after laundry - but before I went to the LHS/club member’s place? Bought a Kalmbach scenery book (Lou Sassi’s newer one, I have the McClanahan and the Dave Frary ones already...), a shaker of WS’ fine cinder ballast, and a small packet of the WS brown fine earth(!). What is that that St. Paul says? “That which I don’t want to do, that’s what I do...”? (loosely paraphrased...) Got to rein in the spending habits...

Hey Inch, I found out the Collinsville show isn’t until *next* weekend (after Thanksgiving Day and Shopaholic Friday). So maybe you and/or Jerry might be able to make it. I’m still debating - ‘fraid I’ll run out of places to store stuff pretty soon. By the way, Mike - kudos on another Best Pic of the Week! You’re getting pretty consistent there! And Dick’s remarks, too! I’m sure Becky is even happier than you are to be able to come home - that’s great news.

Jerry - looks like you got your old account here working again, right?

Perry, good to see some more of your layout pics - thanks for posting them! How many hobos do you go through a week with that pet of yours?

Chuck - good to hear Kathy’s feeling back up to chasing you around the house now. Seriously, glad to hear she survived the hospital stay and is feeling stronger.

Dick, I will have to pass along that Christmas poem you posted. Very awesome. Though I’m sure some of our troops in Iraq wouldn’t mind getting a little snow sometimes.

David, sorry to hear about Jeff being in the hospital, but thank you for posting the info for us. We’ll be praying for him, in or out of the hospital. And for you, we have this special flak jacket to protect you if Jeff gets agitated again.

Fergie, will be continuing to pray for your Dad. That is a lot of weight to pick back up. But if he gets out, it’s at the right time of year to pick up weight (if I’m any indication around the holidays... ) I’ve been getting some forwarded emails from DerJohn, but don't recall getting a 'hand-written' one lately.

Paul, it is indeed good that you don’t have the glaucoma - take it from me, it’s a *PITA* to have to tend to that, six-month checkups, eye drops, etc.

MOW Phil, I’d say you have contributed to the Shop, just by coming in and saying Hi, and what Neal said. Check back in as you are able. We’ll be here for ya.

PC, I’d say you timed your nap just right - does the rest of the family suspect you did it on purpose? Yeah, those naps can be quite good... Maybe just treat the wife ‘n’ kids nice through the holidays, and hope they’ll forget about it by the time New Year’s gets here. 

I finally found my pin vise and drill bits - even found a small set of drill bits for my Dremel, but I don’t think I have a small enough chuck to hold them. So I tried drilling a hole in a tie with the pin vise (very slow going...). Didn’t get nearly as much done as I’d hoped to do this weekend. I took a look at the 8-1-2 Pullman sleeper interior, and I’m pretty happy with it, and with the Walthers diner I have so far. Well, want to do a little weathering on them, but y’know... Also opened the State Line Farm Supply kit, and I like the looks of that one, too.

Feel like my progress has been slipping on the layout. Need to find some way to get the holes for the spikes drilled and just do a whole bunch of those this week (few each night) so I can get the track down. I am ready to get on to other stuff (like scenery and ballasting). Or maybe just a case of the antsies... I'd like to get things up to at least trial running some trains before New Year's.

Hope everyone’s cars (and tickers) keep running great. Prayers for all the CS’ers and your families, and hope you have a very good Thanksgiving (even if I don’t get back in before next weekend).

Phil (MOW), sorry to here of  your problems, I watched my brother-in-law go through that.  You'll be in our thoughts and prayers.

I didn't make it to Gilbert's yesterday.  I started figuring out what I would need to build a through plate girder bridge like they had in MR a couple months ago in HO instead of N scale.  The I-beams they used seemed kind of large so I decided to wait till I can get some actual measurements from the 1:1 bridge I'm using as a guide.  It's near my mother's place and since she's having turkey day dinner at her place I'll just leave a little early on Thursday and get the measurments on my way there.

I did get some work done on the layout this weekend.  I cut out the foam for about ten actual feet of stream bed.  I was going to sand it down but found out I didn't have any sand paper left.  Looks like a stop at HD or Lowe's after work tomorrow.

And to top it off, This morning I set up the Christmas tree and while I was asleep the wife and kids decoratd it.  I didn't know they were going to do that.  I just came down from my nap and it was done!  I missed the fun of doing it, but on the other hand, I didn't have to lift a finger.  I hope they don't make me take it down by myself to make up for it!

Yesterday Me and my friend went to a trains show.

 

We got to see lots of layouts, including the 4DPNR's HO module layout,(They have some frieght car issues... three trains were in gridlock perriodicly(SP)!)the O module layout, the Ntrak layout, and lots more.

I don't have pictures, because my mom didn't bring her camera.

 

My friend got an IHC 0-8-0 shifter for $40. Anyone know about the quality of it?

 

 

On other news, my heavy mountain is back into operation. I'm thinking of getting it a Tsunami.

FWIW i can tell when i've not taken my BP meds or they are getting ineffective when i start flying off the handle. I want bacon and eggs this morning.

The breakfast I got at the hospital was a miserable looking thing.
2 pancakes the size of a 15 oz can lid and about as thick as 2 nickels with 2 little sausages (I think that's what they were) about the size of your pinky finger. The other meals weren't much better. It was mostly sugar free stuff and low carbs. And they wondered why my blood sugar level kept crashing.

 HELLO!  It's because I wasn't getting enough food to keep a starving mosquito alive!

Now they're trying to figure out why my blood pressure is going crazy. They would check my blood pressure 2 ways. First they would check it while I was lying down, then they would check it while I was standing. The standing one should be lower, but it's not. It's higher, by over 40 points. I'd like to know the answer to that one myself.

David: My young friend, I am truely sorry for jumping on you about things that you had no control over, but I had little control over my temper. That has been corrected now.

   Jeff - Hope you get the meds straightened out so you feel better. Know all about what happens when they're not correct though not as drastically as you.

   No time for MRRing lately though we did win an FA/FB set on e-bay in New Haven delivery colours. Speaking of which -  I love the pics Perry. That is not a pet problem though. I have it on good authority that it is a picture of Macinnes paying a morale boosting visit to the crews. He just forgot to turn his personal cloaking device on.

   Inch - congrats on the pic of the pic for pic of the week. If a ratty looking RS-11 shows up and tows the crane away I know nothing. Glad the family is healing ok and for sure those returning home Dec 1 will be ok as that's my burthing day and nohing bad should happen.
